Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026

Listed below are upcoming (and below that, finished) Friday community scent of the day projects. (You can find past years here: 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025.)

2026 ~ upcoming

4/17: Wear a fragrance by Hermès OR something from perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena or Christine Nagel (this is a repeat from 2014).

4/24: Celebrate Jean Paul Gaultier's birthday by wearing one of his fragrances. If you don't have one, wear anything that you think works with the JPG aesthetic, or maybe a fragrance that you'd put in a torso-shaped bottle? Or, as usual, be as creative and/or farfetched as you like with the theme.

5/1:  Rabbit rabbit rabbit! It's May. Wear a fragrance that will bring you peace, happiness or good luck for the month.

5/8: It's Sir David Frederick Attenborough's 100th birthday! Honor the occasion however you like: scent your favorite animal? Wear a fragrance that honors plants or water or anything natural? Wear a fragrance that makes you think of one of your favorite Attenborough television series? It's a pretty open field (and it's also Iris Day, in case you want to kill two birds with one stone).

5/15: Picture challenge, edition 11. The subject is the Arnolfini Portrait by Jan van Eyck, and I will post extra readings over the weekend for anyone who wants them, but as usual, you are free to be as farfetched as you like in your fragrance choice...or go literal: her dress is green, they are both wearing animal fur, there are oranges on the chest and windowsill, and cherries on the tree outside the window, etc etc. Thank you to Calypso for the suggestion! (In the fall, we'll do a more modern piece by Sonia Delaunay, suggested by Kanuka.)

5/22: Recommendation Friday: recommend  a favorite song, show, movie or book (or any form of entertainment, really) and match a scent to your pick, or to one of the characters, or whatever. Adapted from a recommendation by therabbitsflower.

5/29: TBA

6/5: TBA

Fall, date TBA: Picture challenge, edition 12. We will do something by Sonia Delaunay, suggested by Kanuka.

2026 ~ finished

1/2: Wear a fragrance to match Cloud Dancer, Pantone's color of the year for 2026 (or, wear something that matches the description). "A Whisper of Tranquility and Peace in a Noisy World. Introducing Pantone Color of the Year 2026, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer, a lofty white that serves as a symbol of calming influence in a society rediscovering the value of quiet reflection. A billowy white imbued with serenity, PANTONE 11-4201 Cloud Dancer encourages true relaxation and focus, allowing the mind to wander and creativity to breathe, making room for innovation." (More reading: A minimalist statement or just Pantonedeaf? ‘Cloud dancer’ shade of white named Pantone’s 2026 colour of the year at The Guardian, Pantone’s 2026 Color of the Year Is ‘Cloud Dancer’ at The New York Times, Pantone’s colour of the year 2026 divides opinion amid mounting social media backlash at Cosmetics Business.)

1/9: It's National Apricot Day...wear a fragrance with an apricot note, if you have one.

1/16: It's National Nothing Day. Take a break and wear what you want.

1/23: Wear a fragrance with a pomegranate note, if you have one. (Suggested by Laila.)

1/30: Play Nice Friday: wear a fragrance which, while it still bears the stamp of the perfumer’s art, is more or less guaranteed to offend no-one. (Suggested by pyramus.)

2/6: It's the opening day of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. Do absolutely whatever you like with the theme: scent a winter sport? Wear something Italian to celebrate the location? Wear something to support your country's team? Or, pick a fragrance to honor your utter lack of interest in sports, or winter, or both.

2/13: Long Lost Love...wear a beloved fragrance that has been discontinued, or a fragrance that reminds you of a beloved person, pet, possession or place. (Suggested by Old Herbaceous.)

2/20: We'll honor the Lunar New Year (which was on Tuesday) by wearing a fragrance that reflects the qualities of the (Fire) Horse: energy, enthusiasm, independence and passion.

2/27: Wear an amber fragrance, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2018.)

3/6: It's The Day of the Dude. Our community project for today: Take it easy, man. (This is a repeat from 2020.)

3/13: Ink! Wear something with an ink note, or that is described as inky, or was inspired by ink, or that you think is inky, or interpret this project in some other creative way.

3/20: It's the equinox! Celebrate the new season howsoever you see fit.

3/27: Wear a fragrance with a mimosa or cassie note, if you have one. Suggested by Laila.

4/3: Celebrate anything you like about April (April Fool's Day? the Pink Moon? Easter? Poetry Month or Earth Month? anything you can think of) with your fragrance today.

4/10: Name your favorite bird, and wear a scent that matches it for whatever reason, no matter how farfetched. Suggested by happy888cat.
