Friday scent of the day 2/6

Posted by Robin on 6 February 2026 200 Comments

Happy Friday all! It's also Waitangi Day, Bob Marley’s birthday and National Frozen Yogurt Day. Plus, it's the opening day of the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026. Our community project for today: do absolutely whatever you like with the Winter Olympics theme: scent a winter sport? Wear something Italian to celebrate the location? Wear something to support your country's team? Or, pick a fragrance to honor your utter lack of interest in sports, or winter, or both. Thanks go to LesLiesse for the idea!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

Utter lack of interest in sports? Check. Complete disdain for winter? Check. I'm going Italian, though, in Carthusia Mediterraneo.

Reminder: on 2/13, we're doing Long Lost Love Friday...wear a beloved fragrance that has been discontinued, or a fragrance that reminds you of a beloved person, pet, possession or place. (Suggested by Old Herbaceous.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello and tgif!
Sotd is Tiziana Terenzi Bianco Puro. Because it’s Italian and winter and snow is, well, white?
I just started the K-drama Bon Apetite Your Majesty and it’s filled with food p*rn scenes and I love it! Just don’t watch before bed, lol.

I’m weakly doing the CP with a tiny spray of Prada Paradoxe Virtual Flower, since the company is based in Milan.
My surgery recovery has been very rough and I’m having a lot of unpretty symptoms, and problems sleeping (supposedly in my sling, but it’s so awkward).
Earlier this week I was remembering the thrill and glamour of Torville and Dean’s gold-winning performance in ice dancing at the 1984 Olympics. If you were alive then you were probably watching–the world was in love with them, and their long slow and smooth execution of their moves to Ravel’s Bolero was unforgettable! I was trying to think of a Spanish or dance-themed perfume to go with that but couldn’t come up with one.

My sympathies, hope you turn a corner in being able to be comfortable soon. Knew someone who had shoulder surgery who had to sleep in a recliner for 6 weeks, which sounds incredibly difficult.

Hugs Calypso! Hope you can take multiple naps each day to let your body relax and catch as many zzz’s as you can! Sending you loads of healing thoughts!

Gosh, Torvill & Dean & Bolero! Amazing. Here’s the link from Sarajevo in 1984. https://youtu.be/KNCSij0hUp8?si=ay1eMPaPe2t1dxHY

Bolero became linked with them instead of Bo Derek and the film 10. It’s interesting that all ice dancers look like T&D now.

Torville & Dean! I loved them and I remember that Bolero routine.

I hope things get easier with the recovery. My dad has had to sleep in his recliner after a couple of his injuries, and now apparently that’s just more comfortable for him than sleeping in a bed. I wouldn’t recommend it permanently (it makes travelling with him interesting), but could be a short-term solution.

Thank you everyone for your comments on my choices for the CP this week – I’ll save them for the day I’m feeling bad about myself. 😁

I read that Ukraine’s best chance of bringing home a medal is in freestyle skiing, so I wanted something fresh, airy, and graceful – very “in the air” energy.

I layered three light, fresh scents:

Obvious White Crush – snow, a blank canvas

Humiecki & Graef Eau Radieuse – blue, one of the colours of the Ukrainian flag

Profumum Roma Acqua Viva – yellow, the second colour of the Ukrainian flag (bonus points for an Italian brand).

House twins with Robin in Carthusian 1681, and taking points for Italian house and another sauna-adjacent scent. 1681 is sandalwood and cedar, made somewhat raspier with the addition of black pepper and lavender. It’s one of my top ten.

And thank you to Calypso, whose mention of Torvill and Dean’s stunning performance at the 1984 Olympics caused me to go watch it again — it literally made me weep! They were so young, and looked so nervous while waiting to be announced, and then to synchronize so flawlessly while spinning and dipping and linking … just gorgeous.

I love Winter Olympics and it’s hard to choose what to watch, because I like to watch pretty much all of the winter action, but it’s also my birthday weekend and I’m wearing my perennial favorite and special vintage treasure: Caron Narcisse Noir. Dark, carnal floral, full of all kinds of currently banned substances including nitro musks. So infamous that a whole movie was made about its appeal and – here comes my CP points bit – it was set in Himalayan mountain outpost with plenty of foreboding snow peaks nearby, not that anyone could actually ski over there.
Today’s version of Narcisse Noir is a sad, polite little floral so will cherish my vintage hoard while it lasts. Photo of my vintage black flower parfum bottle: https://www.instagram.com/p/DUbEgBhjZZF/?igsh=cjkwd2JycXMweTE0

Yesterday I was in No 22. On the weekend poll a NSTer mentioned Ernest Beaux, the perfumer who created Chanel No. 5 and later Chanel No. 22 was born in Russia and trained in the art of scent during a time when snowy winters were a part of life. So Chanel No. 5 L’Eau and a few drop of the parfum for today SOTD.

This week I did Le Lion, Cristalle, Ralph Lauren Safari (a nod to the man behind team USA apparel.)

SOTD is Ferre Eau de Parfum Gianfranco Ferre. This is a lovely iris and smells a lot like Iris Poudre so of course I love it.

I love the Olympics so will be watching for the next two weeks!

I’m watching the Olympic team skating events and wearing Orto Parisi Cuoium (Italian! Milanese!) It’s the last sunny day here before rain sets in for the next week or so. But warmish rain is forecast so the ski areas may not benefit much. I’ve pretty much written off ski season this year.

Loving all the header images this week. So much action, movement, and speed. Zoom, zoom! Does anyone remember the year Jamaica sent their first bobsled team? The incongruity! The images remind me of a famous illustrator from the 70’s and 80’s whose art evoked the same kind of whooshing movement, although I forget his name. I do remember a couple of specific horse sport images, though.

A couple of weeks ago I met a retired full timer (who travels with her cat!🐱) at a campground up in the mountains. She’s new to full-timing and afraid to boon-dock on her own so I gave her my number and told her she’s welcome to camp near me if that would make her feel a bit safer when I headed down to warmer climes and public lands. Anyway, surprisingly, she texted me two days ago and asked if the offer was still open. So she’ll be here on Monday and I hope she sees that she’s as safe as she can possibly be with a little preparedness and awareness. Hoping this is may give her the confidence to strike out on her own in the future because campgrounds have gotten outrageously expensive and some of them are now attracting nefarious activity like theft, domestic drama, and such.

Interestingly, she worked her entire career in hospitals in the billing/coding department and took early retirement because of “sketchy stuff.” We shared some stories that left us both gasping in horror and laughter.

No Italy connections, so I’m back in L’Essence. Just because. ❤️

Happy Friday and Opening Day of the Olympics! I’m honored and actually downright thrilled ( #Squee! ) to be associated with a CP. Thank you Robin! My first CP!

Sotd Courreges Eau de Liesse. Liesse means jubiliation and utter joy, so I’m interpreting it as The Thrill of Victory! And as a commercial said, no one achieved victory alone- it’s a team effort.

      A beautiful Friday to all!

Yes, I think it will be a nice change for a few days. I’ve seen many traveling cats over the years. Animals are very adaptable. Her cat seems to do remarkably well, but maybe because his disposition is so laid back and unflappable. He loves being outdoors and watching the goings on. She keeps him in a harness with a very long lead while out doors for safety, of course. 😸

Teflon kitty handled the move in a U-Haul so much better than I thought she would. But kitty pharmaceuticals also had a part in that. She does NOT like travels at all.

Wonder how the other cat does it?!?

Just as Calypso has gone down memory lane with Torvill and Dean, I’m thinking of Jean Claude Kelly. He was an Olympic champion in 1976 and then, for some reason, had a tv show. I used to watch him ( he was the skiing equivalent of Jacques Cousteau, primarily because he was French and handsome). Anyway, it’s a long stretch but matching in the Jean Claude (Ellena) created perfume Kelly (Caleche)..

Am I right to say Happy Waitangi Day? I loved Killy too and even asked for Halloween to be a downhill racer as a costume, with which my sewing Aunt Marion kindly complied.

Downhill Racer, gosh Redford was super gorgeous there. Shoutout to Gene Hackman as his coach.

JC Ellena for JC Killy is a very interpretation Kanuka! Well done you!

Bulgari Black for the ice hockey puck win.
I don’t know anything about ice hockey but don’t they use rubber pucks? And it’s a closely watched Winter Olympics sport (though not by me, sadly).
Also, Bulgari is an Italian brand.

The hilarious part? We live here but left for the 2010 Olympics. My kid was 3 months old, the annoying renters in the house across the alley from our bedroom kept watching European soccer loudly in real time (e.g., 4 a.m. our time) and the sound funnelled into our bedroom (which, getting up for night feedings, I’d notice, and would keep me up), and the university shut down for the entirety of the Olympics because some events were held on campus. So my spouse saw a prime research opportunity and we decamped for Germany. I hear the atmosphere here was amazing, but I just wanted to get out. 🙂

SOTD for today’s cp is Dolce&Gabbana Devotion. I’m claiming numerous points: brand name is Italian, the fragrance itself is a celebration of “the irresistible Italian dessert” (Olivier Cresp, its perfumer), and one of the definitions of the word ‘devotion’ is a ‘commitment or dedication to some purpose,’ which is surely what these athletes exhibit to a high degree all their lives as they strive to be the best in their sport. As a lover of gourmand scents in the cold weather months, I’m really enjoying this one today.👍

We finally got a few degrees above freezing today, ending the 20-day streak, so I guess I have to say, Woohoo! But it’s cloudy and extremely blustery with more snow showers predicted so it doesn’t quite feel as good as it sounds. Another brief cold spell tonight into tomorrow, then some 40’s for next week. 🤩

Hoping everyone in the northeast US stays safe and warm this weekend in the bitter cold forecast for you. Take care! 🤗

    Hiya NST!

My brother had to take his work truck to be serviced yesterday afternoon, and he needed a ride home, so I was busy doing that. The heater hasn’t been working for a while and that’s made for a very unpleasant ride around his job site(s). Hope it gets fixed this time.

When we got to his house we watched more anime, and some other things that he’s interested in. Also shot the breeze and completed some paperwork for his employer. I didn’t get home until 11:30 last night.

Scary warm out here. Almost 70 degrees F yesterday. People are running around in T-shirts and shorts. Not quite that hot today, thankfully.

SOTD = Prada Infusions D’Oeillet EdP. Joining up with the Prada peeps today. I smell good! But maybe I shouldn’t have used 4 sprays of this today? 🤔

But it’s 2 sprays per arm, which isn’t quite the huge cloud of perfume that 4 sprays in one spot comes off as.

66 degrees today and tomorrow. As long as I am not under a Red Flag Warning, I will enjoy it. But Colorado is taking a huge financial hit from the lack of snow. Snowpack is around 50% of average right now.

Sometimes countries will use designers of their own to contribute uniforms, e.g. Ralph Lauren for the US. Pretty sure that the French, UK, and Canada have homegrown talent.

Not sure what the smaller countries do.

Some resorts here in Colorado haven’t been able to open all their terrain due to lack of snow. Even with state-of-the-art snowmaking equipment.

Where I am at down on the plains, there’s no green to be seen. It’s all brown and yellow.

I’ve had this scent picked out for today since the cp was announced since it hits the theme a couple ways. Lorenzo Villoresi Teint de Neige is from an Italian brand and has snow in the name. It’s a very powdery scent with flowers and heliotrope paired with white musk. Here’s a great review from Jessica: https://nstperfume.com/2011/01/07/lorenzo-villoresi-teint-de-neige-fragrance-review/

My decant is in a dabber bottle and I had an incident when turning it upside down to “dab” on my arm earlier. I ended up dumping about a third of the bottle on my arm and the floor! Luckily, the floor wasn’t carpeted so it won’t tell reek forever, and I just had to deal with a bit of coughing from inhaling so much perfume on my arms. 😜

I wore Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue for CP points. Every time I wear it, I think this is perfection!

I watched the Opening ceremonies and was humbled at the efforts of all countries to get there. Many countries had 1,2 and 3 athletes. I remember my nieces saying they wanted to be Olympic athletes in swimming when they were kids. Made me so proud to be their aunt.

I made an appointment for my stupid car for Monday. I only have to worry about it getting me to work for 2 more days. I’m really super bummed out right now.
I am wearing Bottega Veneta for the cp today. At least I smell like a nice new car leather interior. Lol.
I hope everyone has a nice weekend.

So very sorry about your car but loved you interpreted the Bottega as new car leather!

I like the Winter Olympics but never seem to have time to watch it. I like that is it more quirky than the summer games with sports most people don’t know well and that small countries actually having a chance to beat the larger ones.

But I went with the Italian connection, Laboratorio Olfattivo’s Vanagloria. I love this one, but my husband sniffed, “industrial solvents”, which is actually not a full insult in my view and this was my favorite purchase of 2025.

I am going to Italy in the spring and I am really wanting to see what perfumes they have over there.

I honestly did not know that, that it was quirkier and less slanted towards larger richer countries.

LOL — only a true perfumista would say “industrial solvents” is not a full insult. Go you!

Z2 I don’t know if you have Peacock but you can watch some events on demand. Also there’s a Milano Cortina Winter Olympics app to keep you up to date if you’re particularly interested in some events.

It’s really interesting to watch the Olympics, especially the Winter Olympics, from other countries. I mentioned above that we vacated Canada for Germany during the 2010 Olympics, and I had a 3-month-old. I spent a lot of time in the apartment in Germany watching TV while I fed the kid, and it was really very interesting to watch the Olympics from a different country’s point of view. (The Germans aren’t exactly weak in winter sports, but very different coverage from North America.)

Unrelated posting that today is/was also World Clash Day. Lots of music of The Clash, or Clash-related, on the radio station I listen to today.

    sotd = Parfum d’Hermes

Waving from 🇫🇷 (metaphorically and fragrantly) to everyone over in 🇮🇹.

I was in the mood for a
    Big Floral Chypre. 😄

The Opening Ceremony emphasized peace among the nations for the glory of sport, so I think your friendly wave from french to Italian is in the spirit of the Games!
