It's Friday the 13th and International Riesling Day. Our community project for today is ink. Wear something with an ink note, or that is described as inky, or was inspired by ink, or that you think is inky, or interpret this project in some other creative way.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm sure I will not be the only one in Bruno Fazzolari / Fzotic Lampblack...it has already made quite a few appearances this week.
Reminder: 3/20 is the equinox! Celebrate the new season howsoever you see fit.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am wearing Lady Gaga Fame for the CP. I am matching the ink note to the black juice color.
Happy Friday! 🌞
Excellent, never would have thought of that!
😊
Have a great weekend, perfumelover 67!
Thank you, Jalapeno! Enjoy your weekend, too!
Lair du Temps
Always correct 🙂
👍
I read this as ‘the lair of time” and completely fell in love with that image. Sounds like the title of a Victorian novel.
😹😜Are you familiar with this Nina Ricci classic? Even contemporary is gorgeous! Decades ago I would buy bottles of it for under $10 at brick and mortar stores in Manhattan. Gosh miss those days!
Yes I am, CM! It is a classic for a reason.
Exactly
I love it, I have vintage and more recent . You smell amazing.
Lucky 🍀 you to have vintage!!
Epic level bottle pr0n!
Yes!!!!!
Hello and tgif!
Sotd is a Thai perfume called Akkhara, inspired by “Thai tradition of Sak Yant, or sacred tattooing”. The ink here is deep, dark and mysterious.
Also inky black is my mug of coffee.
Nice!
Akro Ink
“Cold and alluring, with notes of Black ink, Tar, Vetiver, and Jasmine, Ink is a scent that will transport you back to the day of your first tattoo, whenever you want.”
Hi Twin!
Great to see someone else wearing it. Akro is a new house for me and I don’t think I saw it mentioned here, on NST!
The only other Akro I have/or have tried is Smoke and I love it.
Akro Bake is another I like, but just have a sample of it so far. Triplets as Ink is the only perfume I have with an ink note.
Thank you both for recommendations. I’ve tried Awake and liked it – it looks like this house has a lot of scents worth trying.
I’ve noticed that when I mentioned ink this week to friends as our CP, they immediately went to tattoos whereas I went to writing. Which is your go to image Glannys?
Writing. I don’t have any tattoos, but I am old enough to remember fountain pens (and how messy they were).
Fountain pens! Romantic as well as messy!
I can see how tar and jasmine notes would work very well together.
Joining the Akro Ink club! Until Glannys mentioned it, I had never thought about the jasmine note and am now on the sniff for it🧐
This is also the perfect fragrance for the snow we’re getting today (snow light, I should say, given what many others are contending with).
And looking forward, as always, to the Swapmeet tomorrow!😋
“On the sniff for it.” Love that, Allo!
😊
Wearing SL Iris Silver Mist.
I have an appointment today for a haircut, looking forward to that.
You smell divine!
You smell incredible, Hera. enjoy your appointment!
Smelling fantastic!
You smell great! Haircut for me also.
Twinning with Robin this morning in Lampblack from my dwindling Fzotic discovery set, after having worn Encre Noire to bed last night. Lampblack is really unusual and beautiful, and the extra vetiver from the remains of EN is very nice.
Great seque, SheriG.

It was a really nice progression. I don’t think I’d layer the two simultaneously — each is something of a powerhouse — but 12 or so hours apart worked well.
It’s been a while since you and I have been scent twins!
Has it? I feel like we have a fair amount in common, perfume-wise. For instance, I think I’ll wear Au Delà Narcisse tomorrow (almost did today). Was that on your list for tomorrow too? 😉
TBH, I haven’t planned what perfume I will wear tomorrow. It depends on if Lampblack is still hanging out with me or not, I suspect.
I am terribly late, but hey twin!!
I’m on the Akro Ink wagon today — only ink scent I have. Last day of work before two weeks off, which means it’s going to be a bit crazy.
You guys are a club 🙂
Enjoy your two weeks off, that’s lovely.
Got nothing inky. When I searched the note on Fragrantica, the one that sounded intriguing is Givenchy’s Temeraire: clove leaf, cardamom, tuberose, jasmine, iris, ink, cade oil & benzoin. Don’t think I’ve tried anything with cade oil, and the description (tar-like and smoky) is out of my comfort zone.
Went for pretty & optimistic in Rose Cherie.
There is aL’Occitane men’s fragrance called Eau de Cade that I’ve been wanting to check out but it’s d/c and htf. But I bet they do a smooth and deft job with a note that could be overpowering. I am interested in checking out cade fragrances in general since this is a note I don’t know much about. I wonder how cade-y the Givenchy Temeraire is…the house is not known for edgy or tarry/smoky/super intense fragrances. The only one I can think of that is super strong is Amarige, and that for its nuclear tuberose, which I run from.
I have a bottle of Cade and it’s very strong and lasts all day. The perfume is reminds me of is Tom Fords Tobacco Vanilla, though it’s more woody and less sweet.
Lemming created! I’m sorry I missed it when it was widely available.
Maison Martin Margiela Never-ending Summer
What do you think of it?
I used to love a good glass of Riesling back in the day!
Today is the easy breezy CSP Coco Figue because it feels like summer. As for the CP, when I googled “Fig Ink” it appears to be a popular color in the tattoo world, so there’s that. Also found a pen ink by the name of Turkey Brown Fig Twinkle, which sounds like a lot of fun. It’s a stretch but partial points, maybe? Either way, I smell like a sunny summer day. 👍
Fig ink, I never heard that term before, sounds delightful.
Turkey Brown Fig Twinkle!
I was going to do the Diptyque Paper scent, but we have one more snowstorm here and I needed the comfort of a familiar scent. Trying to channel spring with Grandiflora’s Michel fragrance-based on magnolias, and the tree bark, and the air around the flower. It’s a beautiful scent. I even like its smokey green bottle and the elegant presentation box it came in.
Grandiflora makes some good perfumes, don’t they?
Oh, Grandiflora Magnolia is so good! I sprayed some the other day while rearranging perfume and I was so happy I did. It was a swap with a generous NSTer and I agree with Kanuka that it’s an excellent line of fragrances.
Happy Friday!
Was going to wear Guerlain Encens Mythique from an extremely generous friend from NST who sent me a AFB ! ♥️. Going along with my interpretation of ink being what you use to write to your friends old school style.
But….we are having a heat advisory and it was already warm at 7:30 am which is unheard of around here, so I’m in Clinique Happy Heart as my cooling and aspirational pick.
… speaking of which, have you heard that the young ones nowadays are not taught and / or cannot read script? So much so that retirees are find (volunteer?) online jobs with the National Archives to review and “translate” script writing.
Yes HJS and I keep forgetting. I send them cards or thank you notes for helping and I keep handwriting, which. They have to have translated.
They still teach handwriting here in Grade 3. Ockeghem Teen can sign her name (in Grade 3 handwriting) and takes particular pride in deciphering her great-grandmother’s cards and notes. Her Grade 3 teacher made some noise about deemphasizing the handwriting (oh, and spelling), and all the parents had a fit.
Bravo! Fantastic that OGTeen’s skill builds a bridge to her grandmother!
Some schools out here are reinstating cursive classes.
Stay cool LesLiesse!
I’m in Adorem, created by Fabrice Pellegrin and chef Akrame Benallal for Nez 1+1, and described as “an olfactory interpretation of the color black.” Loads of incense, licorice, soot, and smoke.
Never heard of it but sounds interesting, Daniel! You must smell great.
Very inky to me, especially soot and smoke. Smoke signals?
Sounds so interesting and I like licorice in perfumes
Adorem is so powerful and evocative. Persolaise is a huge fan.
I would never have known of it if not for Persolaise!
Hello, scented ones – it has been a minute or two.
Joining the Lampblack cohort for the CP.
I’ve been sitting on an untested sample for over a year, so this was a good opportunity.
Perfect timing, spiderplant!
🕰️
Nice to see you!
👋🏻
Hiya spiderplant! We are scent twins today.
👯♀️
Welcome (back) to the lampblack club!
thank you, I enjoyed my Lampblack experience : )
Copying Robin of yesterday in CBIHP Black March.
If anyone is looking for something totally goofy to distract themselves from the news, check out Making Fun on Netflix. Kids make suggestions to a bunch of smart builder people, resulting in very strange contraptions such as the Dino Taco Toilet and the Catapoop.
Oh, I want to know about the Catapoop. 🙂
I might need one!
The Catapoop episode is my favorite! It’s a fling-off between a catapult (catapoop) and a trebuchet (trepoochet). Which can fling cat poop the farthest? Plus the catapoop itself looks like a cat and is adorable.
😸❤️
🤣🤣🤣 at Catapoop! That puts ‘Scatula’ to shame.
I’m falling back on inky black bottles to celebrate the CP. I’ve been wanting to do a ‘mindful’ test of CdG Kyoto to look for the vetiver note which you lot told me about but I had never noticed before. Basenotes says there is also an immortelle note. I am here to say that I’m totally getting the vetiver vibe and it has given me an enhanced pleasure of the Kyoto experience, which is already pretty darn amazing. But the immortelle must be just a whisper as I can’t smell it, and I’m quite picky and sensitive to fragrances with that note.
Happy Friday everyone. See you at the Swapmeet, with bells on.
Can’t wait!
Posted like a true scent connoisseur! Impressed you can suss out even whispers.
I’ve never come across an immortelle note in CdG Kyoto either. But I can definitely picture vetiver or hinoki in there.
I have a suggestion, I have always been drawn to emeralds. But not only that my SO loves jewels (to look at, to find and look for – treasure hunt even bought metal detectors and keeps a wooden case where He throws little treasure pieces to keep and look at whether it’s real gold or just vintage shiny things, marbles or crystals). He always always says His favorite color is green and absolutely favorite gemstone is emerald. I met a lot of people who love emeralds. I tend to gravitate towards emeralds too when I see jewelry even if I don’t have one yet and my SO plans on gifting me something with it. My Daughter will turn 7 in May and it’s Her stone. (Mine is in June and I always loved pearls all my life and have many pearls in jewelry).
Sometime in May – and it’s a suggestion, what about a fragrance that reminds of emerald? Here is the thing about it though: it can be interpreted in two ways: GREEN is a great category in perfume for one and also the CP could be to wear a fragrance that evokes the green shimmer of emeralds!!
As I said earlier I need to investigate…I can’t remember what we’ve done with gems, I know we’ve done green twice.
I’m wearing CdG’s 2. One of my fave ink scents. It’s such gorgeous fragrance and I’m happy it’s still available 🙂
Yay, so glad someone is representing!
I was going to grab Lampblack from my husband’s shelf but now I’m wearing Mizuchi by Blackbird, which aims to recreate the space “somewhere between a calligrapher’s inkwell, the pencil shavings on the floor of an architect’s studio, and the faint scent of blueprints”. I actually got a sample of it based on recommendation from family member who is an architect. It does smell very inky and somewhat like freshly written on paper. It looks like it has been discontinued, but Blackbird still makes several similar highly conceptual scents, including Cold Cave Death, with its inky black liquid that promises to stain clothes.
Sounds so good.
That sounds excellent! And Blackbird really does do cool scents.

Juliet Peter was a well-known NZ illustrator and, later, painter who often went out to rural areas and made ink drawings of backcountry life: shearing sheds, farms, schools, street scenes. Her paintings of landscapes are really beautiful. Anyway, this is a scene I can relate to: the open tussock land, and sleeping under the stars. Warm night due the NW a wind ( foehn wind) and stars. A very golden place that I’m matching with Abel Pause. I am also going to match it with a very early Katherine Mansfield story called Woman at the Store from 1912. This story is a kind of NZ a gothic tale, pretty disturbing and written in a more traditional style ( before her more modernist works). I love the opening paragraph of the story, set in the dry North Island area of Hawkes Bay.

This is the 1912 Woman at the Store story, on page 7 of Rhythm journal, where it was first published.
Wow! Talk about foreboding. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for posting this, Kanuka. What a creepy and suspenseful read. Lots going on there under the surface. Also: Tuberculosis mowed down so many talented people at too young an age.
Oh I love that drawing! And have bookmarked the story for the weekend, thank you.
Project Amber is making a stop at Jovoy Ambre Premier today. This one is airy and nice for warmer weather. I have a small dabber sample but am pondering a FB. 🧐 🚂
To weigh in on ink notes for the CP, Zara Supreme Vanilla has an ink note and was pretty good to the best of my memory. I sampled YSL Muse recently which also has ink and no me gusto! I got coconut and fig.
I am going to be the last one here to try a single Zara…but thank you!
I am enjoying reading everyone’s choice and interpretations. I’m going for the straightforward win in Zoologist Squid, from a lovely NST’er’s Splitmeet offer. I think Miller Harris Tender smells more inky like old black liquid ink. Squid takes me in the direction of the sweetness of modern ball point pen ink. In spite of the marine and salty opening, I have the same experience of some reviewers on Fragrantica who find that Squid finishes sweet. “Happy FriYAY” to all, and shout out to JadainGA, where ever you may be.
I still remember what India Ink smells like, despite not being anywhere near it since circa 1980.
Gala apples (from France) and yogurt smoothie
Jour parfum this morning and tonight Elixir des Merveilles for the CP because there has been a Calligraphy edition of it luckily as I have 0 perfume with ink note.
I’ve been trying some new apple varieties lately. Wild Twist was definitely one I would bring home again.
There are so many species, Wild twist is a great name.
I once saw that calligraphy edition for a great price. I was afraid to blind buy it though.
IIRC it was just the bottle decoration which was different from the OG.
Perfumer H Ink, for me! A cherished sample, partially used up, from a trip to London.
Wishing everyone a restful weekend!
Great to hear from you today Jessica!
Our turn today for the wild destructive winds. Gusts of up to 65 mph near us tore the roof off a nearby HS and 40,000 are without power. It was garbage pickup day in my neighborhood today and the normally pristine streets were littered with overturned garbage cans and all sorts of garbage everywhere. We’re ok here, but when we arrived at the grocery store this morning after yoga, I couldn’t get out of the car at first because the wind kept slamming the car door closed as I attempted to open it. I was worried about my leg getting crushed as I was trying to get out but finally I did. 😅 Crazy!
I have no fragrances with an ink note for this week’s cp so I’m wearing one that I think of as deep, dark and black, YSL Nu, full of black pepper, incense, frankincense, and sandalwood layered over BBW’s Black body products. It seems appropriate for a Friday the 13th and bizarre weather!
Happy to be home for most of the weekend as we’re expecting wildly fluctuating temps going back down to the 20’s, more storms and accumulating snow.
Stay safe, everyone! 💨
I’m getting the same weather here this weekend. I have power, but it’s out just down the street. Stay safe!
Like your CP interpretation!
Yuck, you definitely got the weather that Colorado had yesterday. Staying home with 😺😻😽 sounds like the best plan.
Wow! It was windy here today but not that windy.
I’m in Guerlain Shalimar d’iris so no points for me. Happy Friday all!
Oops, I should have said Shalimar Millesime Iris.
Happy Friday Gail!
I’m copying hajusuuri from the other day. I’m wearing Coco Noir for the black bottle.
I’m happy to be off for the next 3 days during this crazy weather weekend. I will still have to take my son to and from work tomorrow.
I need to get my act together for the swapmeet.
Glad to hear that you can hunker down for the most part this weekend!
Stay safe on the road and enjoy the time off.
No CP points, I couldn’t come up with even a vague reference . So I’m wearing Dusita Tonka Latte for this chilly and incredibly windy day here. Happily for us, my college senior decided to come home for the weekend (end of spring break, they spent 5 days in Nashville) so we get to enjoy his company. He got a job offer that he accepted right before spring break, so we get to celebrate a little. Have a great weekend, all!
🎉 for the happy news! Congrats to your college senior!
Sounds like your weekend has started off very well, MMKinPA!
How nice to have a double reason to celebrate – just his coming home at all is reason enough, but to know that he has a job waiting for him makes it even more special. Enjoy!🥳
For the cp, Lalique Encre Noire is what I’m wearing today and what first came to mind when I think about inky perfumes. It’s the first perfume I remember trying and thinking of the word “inky”when I first smelled it. Plus, the bottle reminds me of an ink well. I’ve got a cute mini dabber version.
Lots of people wearing vetiver today.
Thunked my bottle of LUSH Flying Fox showergel today!
The apartment underneath me was getting new carpet this morning. What a racket. But that happens when someone moves out, along with new paint on the walls.
SOTD = joining the Fzotic Lampblack crew. So I am twins with Robin today. A little bit of this goes a long way.
🎉 for the thunk!
Thank you! I do have a BUB of Flying Fox, waiting its turn.
Ooh, Flying Fox! Congrats on the thunk.
Thanks! It was good to the last drop, LOL!
Shower gel thunks are very satisfying. I love opening up a new one.
Pulling the right one out for mood and weather is also very satisfying.
Hey twin!
They are still selling FF, I was just trying to decide if I would pony up $50 for a bottle or not. It is tempting.
It’s a big honking bottle that easily lasted 6 months for me.
Yeah, it is probably worth it.
