My plan for today was L'Occitane Immortelle de Corse, a favorite of Kevin's. I did not think I would love it because I don't usually love immortelle, but as it turned out it's the only immortelle fragrance that has ever grabbed me...unfortunately, it was limited edition and I did not decide in time that I wanted a bottle. Regrets! I do still have a few drops but I cannot wear it today so I am commando, running late, and behind on everything (I have not read yesterday's comments, and likely won't be able to read today's until tomorrow, we'll see). If I do not manage to post at all on Saturday, please use this post as an open thread...I will almost certainly be back early next week.
Reminder: once again we are fresh out of community projects...wear a fragrance that celebrates how there is never enough time to do everything you ought to do!

I’m so sorry and pray 🙏 for your safety. I saw Phil Ittner yesterday, the war correspondent I follow, who resides in Ukraine and has reported from there during the war, and I’ve never seen him so agitated before. He talked about having great difficulty sleeping lately due to what’s been happening, so I knew things were very bad after watching his report. He has many years of experience as a war correspondent and is always a strong and steady reporter.
Yes, sleeping has been getting more challenging. I kept waking up every couple of hours Thursday night into Friday morning – another drone, another explosion, and so on. And it wasn’t much better during the day: it was one air-raid alert after another throughout Friday.
The building where I live is right by the roundabout at the edge of town, and fire engines took a lot of water from the pump outside to put out the fires nearby, so we had no running water in the building until the afternoon. Completel understandable – I understand those burning facilities had to be put out. Some of them were food warehouses, among other things.
A hell of a day. But we survived, and the building is untouched. Thirty-seven people died in the region. 😢

Sotd is Guerlain’s new L’Heure Bleue edp.
I normally do not like ozonic scents at all but this one is beeeautiful! The ozonic note gives the scent an airy and effervescent quality. The iris and root here doesn’t have a carroty or earthy tone but is rather floral in effect. The vanilla is luscious and slightly sweetened but light, like a whipped Chantilly cream. The scent also conjures up the feeling of lush, creamy and expensive white soap, classic, slightly perfumey but never dated.
Thanks for the report. I am thinking about buying it. Can you really detect the ambroxan? Sometimes it bothers me and other times it doesn’t 🤷♀️

I chose Le Galion Iris for the CP. It has white flowers, specifically lily, which are usually a firm “no thanks” from me, plus musk, which almost never works for me, AND mimosa, which is often too sharply sweet. Oh! and rose, which has always been a difficult note for me. But blend those with a floral iris and enough cedar and galbanum and it becomes a very delightful, sprightly scent indeed. A “spring in a bottle” perfume. And speaking of which, have we ever done “autumn in a bottle” for the weekly project?

Fall is nearly here in N. CA, after a few days of very intense humidity, the sort that requires a flammable amount of hair products, the air is finally cooler at night.
I never really got fruity florals as a category but I did think Lady Gaga Fame was good enough to buy, and I’m wearing it today — it has a lot of honey, which kind of ties it all together and makes it more than the sum of its parts.
Sounds pleasant – often we forget that Nice is Nice. The one Laga Gaga perfume controversy is that…they’re not controversial.

Serendipitous CP compliance! I was given a sample of Sugarful Pink Kiss this week, and, despite being Not My Type in many ways, I rather liked it. I am fairly sure Pink Vanilla doesn’t exist outside of a copywriter’s feverish mind as an ingredient, but the vanilla/musk/berries combo was not bad at all. Will use up the sample…

I feel the same, AnnieA – sugary scents are not for me. Thus I was surprised to like Prada Candy Floral some time ago as the original was interesting with all that caramel and benzoin but not my jam. I had a bit of Candy Floral and enjoyed it quite a lot.
Scent: would be La Chasse aux Papillons if I were wearing any fragrance, chosen in memory of Dolly. Bonus: it’s cp-compliant. I never found many tuberose fragrances to love, but do have La Chasse in a travel size.
Random thought: CDG Dot might be a good choice to wear in tribute to Yayoi Kusama.

Oh, have a wonderful time in SF! I love that area; both of our kids live there, so we’ve been a few times. My husband is heading out there this weekend to watch a grand-cat whilst her person heads to Burning Man. *The Fillmore has a Le Labo and Ministry of Scent, and Japantown is nearby for a quick stop for amazing Sushi. J-Town also has Candy Doll Beauty, a great shop for all things Asian skin care.
*Neiman’s is still a good place to stop by but they’ve reduced the number of perfumes at their Guerlain counter. Barney’s, Bloomies, Nordies are no longer open.
*Chanel boutique, I hear a reservation is needed prior to arrival (that was a year ago so I’m not sure if that’s still the case, but check).

SOTD is Fum Ariose. I have never really clicked with gourmand fragrances, but this one is an exception.
I’ve not posted the past couple of weeks because most of my time has been directed elsewhere. Apparently, my mind has room for only one obsession at a time, in this case painting. I tried my hand at watercolors some years ago, and now I am trying out acrylics. I’ve put pics of my work on my Gravatar page.

Normally,!oud is too much for me but this scent goes full Mae West “sometimes too much of a good thing can be wonderful!”

Hi all and happy Friday! My SOTD is Crown Bouquet by Crown Perfumery. Never in a month of Sundays would this be my type of scent yet I find this so enjoyable.
I’m more of a spicy green, oud, or chypre gal, but all these notes play so well together: hyacynth, Galbanum, Green Notes, Tuberose, Orange Blossom and Gardenia. It’s surprisingly long lasting as well.
I used to not appreciate rose or Shalimar but do now. Wearing Shalimar MR.
Davidoff Cool Water and Shalimar where the only two perfumes I would gag when I smelled them. Davidoff Cool Water would make me physically ill and Shalimar I tried so hard, because it’s a classic, because it’s Shalimar, because I even used to wear Jardins de Bagatelle, not my fave but doable. Shalimar smelled like a very harsh citrus bathroom cleaner with zero softness, zero warmth and I couldn’t wrap my head around why people love it so much.
Then last year I tried Le Lion and first thought was: this reminds me of Shalimar so much. But what Shalimar lacked – Le Lion delivered. I am absolutely mad about Le Lion, I have a little mini 4ml that I sometimes dab and my mouth literally waters. I may be order a sample of Shalimar and try it again and see if anything has changed in the last 20 years.
Have you ever tried the Shalimar Eau de Cologne version? I don’t like other forms of Shalimar but this one I do and it’s very wearable. Only problem is I think it may be d/c.
I think the new one from last year, Sahlimar L’Essence, is quite good too. It is more youthful and not so harsh. The new Shalimar Millesime Rose smells nothing like the original Shalimar to me.

Sotd: Chance Eau Tendre EdP.
Have a near empty bottle (thanks to my 7 year old), have also gifted one to a friend of mine last Christmas. Generally always thought it is a great fragrance if we are talking light, fruity-floral. Meaning I always thought that if You absolutely must wear an innocent, baby pink fruity-floral You might as well go with Eau Tendre as it is done in a beautiful way but also lasts all day. Let me repeat: lasts all day. If someone tries to tell me otherwise I will assume they are anosmic even though I don’t see how. I know when my 7 year old leaves for school, and does a small spray or two, and I know what I can smell when She returns from school and all the way until I bathe Her. I know what I smell and no it’s not in my head.
Today was the first time for me wearing it as a full wear. Hours within my work day I kept smelling something different, like ok all the Chanel perfumes I have been wearing I know them in all stages of wear by heart. Because I wore something I have never worn before overall my body, I kept getting wiffs of something strange and I kept reminding myself it’s Eau Tendre for the first time. The bottle is near empty but says ago I have already reordered it because I don’t want my 7 year old to get upset.
Well I really loved it. I felt like I was wearing a light pink, girly perfume and it also reminded me of strawberries because of its “pinkness”. Reminded me of strawberry Chupachups. Lol.

Eau Tendre smells a lot like Daisy to me, which I love.
I cleaned out the guest room closet today. That’s where all the off-season clothes are, so in preparation for fall I tried everything on and ruthlessly culled anything ill-fitting, stained, containing worn out elastic, or unflattering. Unsurprisingly I still have plenty of clothes to wear. I am cold a lot of the time and realized I could start my own fleece popup store with the number of fleecy items I own. We have “One Warm Coat” donations starting soon so many pieces will find new homes.
For the CP, I really do not like green notes. Everyone raves about No. 19 and I could not get it off me fast enough. Vetiver, ugh. Smells like how I imagine poisoned roots would smell. But Chypre Mousse turned out to be a true love. It’s green and mossy and smells damp and mineralic, and I think the mineral note makes the green more acceptable to me.
Amazon is selling the Kindle version of “The Husbands” by Holly Gramazio for $1.99 today, and it’s well worth buying. In my top ten books for 2024.
One Warm Coat is a great group.
I think of Deva whenever someone mentions Chypre Mousse here, and her nickname for it.
For the CP wafting Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Femme. I forget how I got a sample of this, but in spite of its being piney, fresh, rosy, and supported by clean wood notes it won me over to a rollerball. It is distinctive in an almost Angel-like way, which makes sense since it has berries, amber and patchouli.
I wish I would have gotten that one.
I pretty much like all of the Guilty line.

Fresh strawberries. It rained at long last, a real amount and I chose Kenzo Summer this morning because it’s airy and flowery. Tonight, for the CP it’s Dioressence Eau Parfumée, the original 1969 version by the great Guy Robert which is to this day the only fragrance with ambregris that I can tolerate and even enjoy. No doubt it’s natural ambregris given its age but even the real thing is no guarantee for me as trying a Les Indémodables sample supposedly containing the real thing too (can’t remember the exact name of the perfume) made me gag in the way I recognize so well.

Two notes I tend to not like are birch tar and leather, so I was very surprised when I sampled Falcon Leather and found it quite wearable! So, it’s not a love, but I’ve enjoyed this sample way more than expected.

For today’s cp, I’m wearing Coty’s Classic Sand & Sable. Despite my usual dislike of white florals, especially tuberose, I’ve always enjoyed this one. And, after dinner, I’ll be spritzing AG Songes, which surprised me from first spray and which I’ve surprisingly loved since then, despite my dislike of most of the notes.
We had a wonderful day yesterday celebrating the cats’ birthdays with their ‘Auntie’ (she and her mom were responsible for saving the life of 😻😽’s pregnant mom.). It was also ‘Auntie’s’ birthday. We took her out to our favorite Mexican restaurant for lunch, came here to celebrate with our furbabies, then went to her house to celebrate with her two. Pretty silly, but it was lots of fun!😹

I figured I would never, ever like Chanel No. 5. I’d tried both EdT and EdP at my local department store perfume counters and hated it every time. And I was OK with that. You can’t like everything, even if it is a classic.
Then lillyjo sent me a decant of No. 5 L’Eau. And I fell hard for it. I still don’t care for the parent, though.
SOTD = Chanel No. 5 L’Eau. Perfect for a day with the temp hanging around 95 or 96 degrees.

But the OG and I have decided that we are agreeing to disagree. It was a full on scrubber for me.

I’m completely with you on No.5. I really tried with it too; I even got a spray oil and also the body creme. Eventually I gave both items to a friend (who loves it!). The L’Eau is so different and totally wearable.
I just got tired of getting punched in the nose by the original No. 5. Enough is enough.
This made me laugh! But I just keep coming back for the crazy ride that it is to me. Should say L’Eau, which I got from a lovely NST’er at the Swap Meet, is also my preference.
I tried all the versions too and did kind of like the EdT, but ended up giving it away. The L’Eau is a different story. That one I love, and I do use the Chanel body cream on my legs on occasion with it.
The L’Eau is an excellent example of a flanker that is up to par with, or even exceeds, its parent.
I’m not a No. 5 fan either but have not tried the L’Eau, will have to do so in the future. Sorry about your 90’s; we’re getting some of that for 4 days next week. At least the a/c’s been off and windows open for awhile now so hopefully going back to being sealed in won’t be too bad for a few days.🤞
The L’Eau is definitely worth a sniff even for No. 5 haters.
I’ve noticed there is a long term cooling trend in the temps here, but it might take a bit of time to get there. Hoping I get a break on my utility bills thanks to Mother Nature soon.

My sotd is the original Miu Miu. I usually hate black pepper in perfume. I enjoy Miu Miu though, it’s a nice twist on LOTV.

Fleur de Lait is very nice. It’s a creamier version with less pepper. It’s fairly light though. If I ever find it cheap enough, I will get it.

Ha, I too could have done Miu Miu for this CP. Almost passed it on several times, but then after repeated retries, I started liking its peppery self. My initial purchase was heavily influenced by the bottle and the kitten in the ad!

Jean Patou Joy Forever today. I remember sneering wholeheartedly at this when it was released earlier in my fragrance journey. It’s like a lighthearted confectionary version of Mitsouko and this month I bought a very cheap bottle off a local FB Sale Doc. It’s so beautiful and I’ve worn it three times this week. Almost unheard of.

I think most perfume people who smelled original Patou Joy would feel sneery at anything with the name and not THAT scent. I’ll have to dig around and see if I have some Joy Forever. Also, I found a bottle of the Dior Joy at a consignment shop and like it.
We perfumistas are a funny crew. The OGs are so special to us that it feels like an attack when they make totally unrelated flankers. Wondering g how many of us would have different reactions in blind sniffs?

It was a day for musk. I’ve never been a huge fan of it before but I tried Kiehl’s Musk over a BBW creme in Warm musk. For some reason it works on my skin.
Busy day dropping off the rest of the donations, then I finally washed the windows on the outside. Inside washing will have to wait for another day.
I am questioning a purchase I made. I have been wanting an old-school ‘oriental’ perfume with some spice, preferably clove or cinnamon. I haven’t worn that style of perfume in ages. I can blame fall coming, but that’s just an excuse. I know YSL Opium doesn’t smell the same to me. I decided on Chanel Coco, edp. Who am I? I didn’t feel like making the 30-minute drive to the nearest department store that carries it, so I bought it directly from the Chanel website. Again, who am I? I bought it there because they are the only ones that sell the Coco 1.2 oz. I wanted to go smaller in case this is a mistake, which it probably is. But, I could probably do worse, right?

Agreed. Now I’m thinking about Guerlain. For some reason I want classics again. Maybe newer versions like Shalimar L’Essence and the new L’Heure Bleue. The little bottles of those are so nice looking. I’ve always been a classic perfume purist, but maybe I’ll try those.

We could post about something we are curious about, and at the very least, would hear some interesting opinions. I would be surprised if no one offers a sample of something classic like that!

For the CP, I am wearing the original Ungaro Ungaro (cobalt blue bottle, green cap) that is in a genre I don’t usually seek out – symphonic florals. This one, from 1977, is a kitchen sink fragrance with woods & a musky animalic bite. I would not have brought it out in our heat wave if not for the CP, but it seems to do well in hot weather and I’m enjoying it quite a lot, it’s been a minute, as the kids say, since I reached for it. I love hearing everybody’s choices today and it reminds me never to write off a genre because there are always exceptions.
LOL! My brother and I both use “It’s been a minute” and we can legitimately claim membership in the old farts club.
Hey everyone, I am checking in very late. My mom has been in the hospital for a couple days and has now come back home with hospice. She is 90 and as she says, she has had a good run and has no complaints. The hospice people are wonderful and taking very good care of us.
I will probably not be able to post a poll tomorrow morning but who knows, maybe, and if I can’t I will try to post Saturday night or Sunday morning, and if I don’t manage to appear every day next week, I’m just busy helping out…I’ll be back when I can.

90 is a beautiful long run Robin, and it’s wonderful you’re right there with her and she knows it’s you. May peace and love cover you all in gentleness!

I second what everyone else has said, and I want especially to recognize hospice workers — in my experience they are all amazingly supportive and compassionate, and a huge help to their patients and their families. Sending good thoughts your way.
Please take all the time that you need. The blog can wait for sure. You only have one mother and whatever ends up happening is for the best,
Hospice is a wonderful help to the patient as well as the family. Take care of your mom but don’t forget to take care of you too. It is hard when it is getting time to lose a parent no matter what age. Hugs to you.

Robin I wish you and your family much love and serenity. I’m glad you’ve had your mom in your life all these years and wow 90, yup, a good run when one is in decent health both mentally and physically. Still, it is always tough. Sigh.
I woke up this morning still thinking of the CP so sprayed another perfume that I call ‘the exception to the rule” which was that I don’t usually care for classic fougeres if they have a strong ‘barbershop’ vibe. So I approached Casanova 1725 by Histoire de Parfums warily when I saw my partial decant but this is definitely a more modern take on a fougere, and the powder and lavender are tempered with a citrusy opening which got my attention immediately. Plus it contains almond, sandalwood, and anise/licorice, which a classic fougere would never. So, the humble barbershop becomes a sexy boudoir scent for a confirmed dandy. This is a complex niche scent from an underrated house. It came out in 2001, before I dove back into perfumery. I know I sampled a lot of the HdP line around 2009-10 when I re-immersed, but my brain was flooded with too many scents back then so I’m glad to revisit this partial travel bottle that I found in my stash.
I can’t wear anything that smells barbershop.
As to the Chanel No 5 love and the shaking of heads, I think we all have at least one classic beloved perfume that we just can’t wrap our brains around. For me, it’s Mitsouko, though I keep trying.
Big points to both Chanel and Guerlain (with Shalimar) for updating these classics for modern audiences while keeping some of the same DNA. The Shalimar flankers have gone way farther afield and yes, don’t even smell like traditional Shalimar in many cases, but I love to see them all and I wear a lot of them – they are a lot of fun. I think my fave No. 5 flanker is Eau Premiere. I’m lucky to have a big tall bottle of that one, which reminds me, it’s perfect for the heat, and cooling, whereas the original, especially in a heat wave, might be cloying to me. I’ll save that for winter.
Saturday morning and our weather is suddenly autumnal. Wet pavement outside and the need to turn the furnace on inside. It feels marvelous, and I’m in JM Amber Labdanum to celebrate.
Wow how much I dream of cold weather. We are in the highest heat ever here in the South FL. It’s brutal heat. What I love love love are overcast skies, grey skies, rain, cold. See the wold when it’s rainy (and cool) seems like a cozy place. Being exposed to bright sun all the time just makes You dream of cold and grey.
Come visit the Pacific NW! Seriously, I lived in LA for a brief time in the early 2000s, and whenever those rare rainy days occurred, I’d stand at the big picture window in the office, watching and sighing. My coworkers were amused.
Yes, I love our damp PNW weather (not that it has been t this summer!), it’s only the darkness of the winter that occasionally gets to me. But as long as I get out during the day for some light, I’m fine.
I have been in a cloud of #5 since yesterday. The parfum yesterday and The Premiere today.
Super late to post — we were driving to attend an event yesterday. Rose is often hard for me, particularly when it’s the main note. But I do still love my Lancome Mille et Une Roses bottle, although I actually wore PG Indochine as a bit easier for driving in close quarters with Mr. SP. (I also like the OG Stella and Divine Spirituelle, so have a few exceptions to the rule.)
And for today, I’m in Obvious Un Ete, now renamed Milk & Matcha.
I am attending my 50th high school reunion. I cannot believe it’s been 50 years. Some of my high school moments are clear as a bell in my head. Seeing people and hearing about others is both happy and sad, thought provoking and poignant. I’m glad I came to celebrate with these people. We had such a small class that although certainly not close with everyone, we all knew each other and shared a childhood in a small agricultural town that not everyone can relate to.
