Friday scent of the day 3/20

Posted by Robin on 20 March 2026 155 Comments

Happy Friday, happy first day of spring (or fall, depending on where you live) and happy International Day of Happiness! It's also UN French Language Day and Fred McFeely Rogers‘ birthday, and, Eid Mubarak! Our community project for today: celebrate the new season howsoever you see fit.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m doing day 2 in L’Artisan Parfumeur Jacinthe des Bois.

Reminder:  on 3/27, wear a fragrance with a mimosa or cassie note, if you have one. Suggested by Laila.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

For me, a Perfume Unicorn is something fantastically rare and discontinued. A treasured mirage that you might someday be lucky enough to find.

Unicorn poops, OTOH, are rainbow sweet. That’s probably TMI.

I have this scent, and love it. Years ago I could have bought an opulent pair of sunglasses from this brand complete with huge gold maple leaves on the arm of the sunglasses-kinda wish I had indulged. You smell great and thanks for the pictures of elusive kitty/bunny:)

You smell wonderful! I stumbled upon Ferre in an Ebay lot and was all “wow” when I tried it. The bottle is so classy, too: so heavy and with the name in raised letters so it’s seen when you look down into the bottle.

Good Morning NST. I’m up with the birds today wearing vintage Carven Vetiver splashed on from a giant whopping ornate bottle with the jaunty walking man and green label. It is an old school-straight ahead vetiver with a very slightly smoky feel to it, like a tiny whisper of Sycomore-to-come. I don’t know what inspired Christopher Sheldrake when he created Sycomore EdT, but I have a fantasy of him testing old vintage bottles of Carven Vetiver and thinking, hhmmm, if I amp up the smokiness by 100%, that would be something novel.
I like this CP because it can go in many directions – green herbal, green rooty, green floral, green abstract, green forest, green bottle, you name it.
Note to LesLiesse – Tom Ford’s Grey Vetiver does not smell much like Grey Flannel to my nose. With GF I get a ton of violet leaves or green violets, and there is no violet in the TF, at least none that I can suss out.

Thank you DH! Your nose is sophisticated and I appreciate the way you discern (is that the appropriate verb for differentiating among the scents in a fragrance?) the different ingredients in a bottle.

I’m wearing my beloved PdE Corsica Furiosa. The opening blast of green wakes up my olfactory bulb similar to this banger:

The dry down is soft and golden. A FB I’ve never regretted. ❤️

I’m a bit disgruntled that I’m at about 8000ft and it was 80F already yesterday, although it cools down nicely at night. I know the Children of Summer have been waiting for this with bated breath…😎🌞

And Nowruz Mubarak to those who celebrate this loveliest of holidays.

My favorite day when we lived in Iran; beautiful haft seen tables, new clothes for children, families gathering, soft sping in the air after very cold, very snowy winters.

SOTD post shower will be Ingenious Ginger since we have had such warm weather.

Language class later at library, one more to go before I decide if I will do it again.

    Have a good Friday all.

Wearing Coco from vintage crystal flacon second day in a row. Smells so divine on me. It’s much warmer here now – Coco may seem like a cold weather scent but for some reason it smells so beautiful on me no matter the season, I guess.
That’s it. I just saw that D’Annam released Mango Sticky Rice. That’s it. I’m gonna have to get a bottle of that. I have successfully resisted all of their launches. I have ALWAYS been a lover of especially Japanese and Korean culture as well as a huge interest in Vietnamese or Thai things also. My favorite food is Asian. I mean I love love love Asian food. I know Japanese and Thai menus like the back of my hand. Even when I go to Starbucks with friends – and I have a deep coffee craving I always walk out with a cup of grassy (maybe not the most authentic but still) matcha in hand. My little almost-7 year old eats tons of Asian food just the way I eat haha. What I love about d’Annam (from afar as I have never tried any of them) is: their aesthetic, their vision for what they do, love the new round bottles. That round-clear pebble-shaped bottle is a hit with me. I dream I will own Chanel #5 L’Eau in that format and never got around to buying it (yet) although I do have and love the scent. I’m on my 2nd bottle of #5 L’Eau but in its rectangular bottle – the one currently sold.
Yes I will spend $500 on a Chanel parfum but I never get to spend any money on other brands because if something costs over $100 from another brand I feel bad if I can use that money towards another bottle of Chanel. I am crazy like that.
But that’s it d’Annam!! I’m coming for You. I will have to get Mango Sticky Rice – I had seen this released by other brands before and it always caught my interest, the Mango Sticky Rice perfumes. But in that pebble shaped bottle from d’Annam? Gotta get it. Did I forget to mention that I love mango sticky rice? It’s simply delicious. I also do not mind smelling like a kitchen (hello the good ‘ol days when Comme des Garcons brought me so much joy with my favorite of their series: #7, Sweet) but all these perfumes released nowadays that resemble glorified body mist are a turn off because everything has to say: caramel laced marshmallow on it. If anyone gets to smell d’Annam Mango Sticky Rice before I do – please report!!

It is amazing. Our local Thai restaurants (I worked for 3 Thai restaurants in the past in our town – and I know all the Thai community in our town, are one million authentic Thai meals made by chefs and not served on the regular menu) but very unfortunate has happened – all the Thai restaurants in our town stopped adding mango sticky rice to their menus. I would make some but here is the catch: I am not a sophisticated cook haha I can make very simple meals and I don’t believe I could ever recreate the magic of the real mango sticky rice.

I’m wearing YSL Paris (Note: NOT “Mon Paris”), which is known best for its rose note but it has most every other flower you can think of in it, including classic spring notes like jasmine, lily of the valley, and hyacinth, plus “green notes” and iris–so it’s pretty perfect for the CP! In addition, it’s just plain pretty. My mom often wore it.

I’m wearing ELdO You or Someone Like You, which is the only spring-like sample in my travel bag. (Ummagumma didn’t seem right, nor 31 rue Cambon, nor Ossuary.) It is, at least, a beautiful spring day in Paris today, high of 18C. I am NOT ready to leave for eastern Canada tomorrow. 🙂

Our summer was rubbish, but early autumn is turning out to be a bit more settled and we’ve had several sunny days.
I’m delighted that we’ve woken up to a sunny Saturday, and the main activity today is taking our cat to the vet for her annual check up. Phaedra had major surgery four years ago for a growth in her ear, but apart from that she’s a robust wee thing.
I’m going to relive spring (or anticipate the next) with the lovely green Scherrer.

I’m in Central Otago for the weekend and have woken up to a cloudless blue sky and not a breath of wind. It’s early so the shadows cast by the trees are long, and the trees themselves are golden in the morning sun. There’s a family on four Californian quail on the lawn, their heads bobbing as they chat among themselves. Yesterday I stopped at roadside stalls to buy apricots from the orchard where they are grown. I’m taking a three hour writing workshop today with a group of local enthusiasts and then will go for a walk along the river. A perfect autumn day and wearing Shalimar.

I started the day in Guerlain’s Florabloom Perle, which I like best of the various Florabloom varients because it is the rosiest. But it is short lived, so I just switched to Nicolai’s Le Temps d’une Fete. I am forever grateful to SheriG and Jepster for generously sharing this Spring Beauty with me. I love it so much!

The daffodils haven’t bloomed yet, but the garden is filled with their leaves. I hope they wait until the cold is truly gone.

Tea today is Fortnum & Mason’s Victoria Grey. Not my favorite grey from them, but the lavender is quite nice in a london fog with a touch of honey.

I have not tried the Victoria Grey, I was put off by the licorice…have determined I do not like licorice in my tea. But you have reminded me to pull out my tin of Countess Grey, which tends to get ignored in cold weather.

Atelier Materi Narcisse Taiji for the CP.

A narcissus scent, but very different from the golden, warm Temps d’une Fête. Narcisse Taiji feels rather austere, perhaps even metallic, yet still very spring-like.

    From the Atelier Materi website:
“The olfactory interpretation of Yin and Yang, where the Narcissus flower is worked in chiaroscuro. A contrast between light and shadow, strength and delicacy.”

So yes, it fits well with my interpretation of the equinox – light and shadow, contrast and balance.

Happy Spring! So many of us wearing green scents today, even more than on St. Patrick’s Day! I’m joining you in one I’ve been longing to wear this month – the 1991 version of Balmain Vent Vert. It’s the fragrance that taught me how much I love a galbanum note. I love everything about it; of course, the scent itself, but also its name (so indicative of Spring weather) and the bottle itself with its jaunty polka-dot tie and feathery cap blowin’ in the wind. ❤️I’m so happy to switch over from vanilla and patchouli to green and oakmoss.

Looking forward tonight to another Shakespeare Project of Chicago play at a nearby library, ‘Dear Rhoda.’ It’s based on a pair of letter-writing lovers and set in the Roaring 20’s era in Chicago with some famous name characters of that era. The inspiration was born In 1986 when a woman bought an old trunk at a garage sale in Wisconsin; it was locked and stayed that way for 20 years in their garage until they moved to another state. When finally opened, it contained clothes and other items from the 1920’s and hundreds of letters written by a Chicago bookseller to his love. Eventually made into a play, the woman who purchased the trunk, who spent her career as a hairdresser and restaurateur with no writing experience, was convinced by her playwright friend to compose the letters from Rhoda for the play, as none were found in the trunk. I can’t wait to see!

Happy Spring! Happy Fall! And Nowruz Mubarak to those who celebrate!

Many, many thanks to all the NSTers who expressed support for me yesterday. I am humbled and appreciative. After a night’s sleep, I reread my post. I realize that it probably sounds rather dire, so I’m adding some info.

Yesterday, the numbers for my BP were bad. Like Level 2 hypertension bad. We are talking between 90 and 100 for diastolic pressure. My BP was taken 3 times with 2 different blood pressure cuffs. Folks here with medical backgrounds will understand the significance of that data.

It was quite the shock, since I am usually at 120/78. 124/80 if I am having a bad day. But there is a significant family history of high blood pressure for both sides.

I haven’t quite accepted the information yet.

SOTD = Dame Perfumery Lily of the Valley soliflore body butter. Not quite up to wearing actual perfume yet.

Zero symptoms. I grew up hearing high blood pressure referred to as “the silent killer”. Now I know exactly what people meant.

I definitely will need to make some lifestyle modifications. Like changing what I get at the grocery store and Costco, for starters.

Hi, guys!! I can’t believe my luck!! My dream came true!! I’m so excited I am dancing and jumping right now. I had to share!!
I have always been looking at these Chanel #5 pure parfum bottles BUT the ones that are 1.2oz and are a spray. Here is the thing: these always go for hundreds and yes I could have gotten one long time ago but what stopped me from spending hundreds of dollars on it is that I can easily find Chanel #5 pure parfum bottles for much more reasonable prices that are the small, dabber kind. For example I can’t find Les Exclusifs 1932 for any less than way over $200 for used, right. So if I want to own 1932 (excluding the 4ml sample ones that are either EdP or EdT) in a bottle I KNOW I have to spend hundreds of dollars. But if I want to be able to use #5 parfum (which is my absolutely preferred strength) I know I can find the dabber ones anywhere from $50 on a good day to $150 for 15mls. And this is how I always got my #5 in parfum form.
But I always dreamed of having #5 parfum in this awesome 1.2oz spray.
Well lazily scrolling on went on one of the platforms and there is is… Half full 1.2oz spray for a VERY reasonable price. I almost choked on my coffee. That is still 0.6oz left in the spray bottle. I have never been faster checking out a purchase. I am pretty fast on my phone but I was so scared someone else will beat me by a half a second. But I got it!! I purchased it!! I’m so happy right now:)

I keep going to the purchase history on that platform and keep staring at my newest purchase. Seller has nothing but a million 5 star ratings and looks like they only sell authentic perfumes. The bottle is missing the cap but I could actually care less. I have many caps that will feet this bottle. I’m so super excited.
