I'm commando for an appointment this morning, except for a very light layer of DIY eucalyptus and sweet orange lotion. My plan for this afternoon: more eucalyptus, with Diptyque 34 Boulevard Saint Germain.

This was an interesting challenge-eucalyptus isn’t a common note. I chose 1000 from Patou. I bought this because I read Anjelica Houston’s autobiography and loved it. I really admire her work, especially The Grifters. She’s as talented a writer as she is an actress. She wore this and wrote about it so evocatively I had to try it. I bought Eau de Patou at the same time-gorgeous cologne. Anyway, 1000 is so complex and modern-it feels like it could be a Frederic Malle offering.
Ok-back to work for me, and I’m looking forward to see what other fragrances have the CP note 🙂
I still prefer Joy but 1000 was a great fragrance.

Well, if Haze is dried eucalyptus, this one is wet. It starts with a very medicinal blast of eucalyptus oil, which softens quickly and is then joined by marine notes. This is essentially what I get from it: eucalyptus and sea.
Described as “a foggy meditation on coastal California eucalyptus groves” – and while I’ve never been to California, Big Sur definitely feels like a “memory in a bottle” type of scent. It reminds me a little of my trips to Crimea and Odesa: definitely seaside, with seaweed and salty water, surrounded by a deep, dark forest. Very atmospheric and moody.
For me, photorealistic marine scents are difficult: as much as I love the smell of sea air, I tend to find something off-putting in perfumes trying to capture it. For this reason, I fell out of love with Sel Marin.
I’ve been testing Big Sur Eucalyptus for a few days, and my impressions – depending on the stage of the scent, the weather, and who knows what else – range from “Wow” to “Eugh” and even “I feel a headache coming.”
Will it find a place in my wardrobe? I doubt it. Was it interesting to test? Undoubtedly. Recommended to try for those who like Heeley Sel Marin and Hermès Épice Marine.
Pairing it with a seaweed snack – “Roasted Seaweed with kimchi flavor”. No eucalyptus, but a very spicy seaweed. I like the taste more than I expected!
The eucalyptus grove smell in my memory is southern rather than northern California, but that does sound like something I should try.

I agree with your impressions of Big Sur Glannys. I wish I still had my tester of this scent or could buy a travel size. The 50 ml bottle is too expensive. But…. I do love the memories it evokes having been lucky enough to visit Big Sur under happy circumstances, the scent is very true to its brief imo.

No eucalyptus, just whatever I was in the mood for, which happens to be Lady Gaga Fame. Nothing groundbreaking about it, but it suits me — there’s a honey note that I really love.
And that bottle – excellent kitschy-ness (and I mean that in the best way).

Beautiful photo up top — wish I’d taken it. It’s chilly and not quite rainy here this morning, which is perfect for what I was going to wear in any event: Feu Secret. Now that I’ve been made aware that it has eucalyptus, I think I can recognize it.
Good news of the week for me is that my numbers on the blood draw yesterday came back picture-perfect, so no more fiddling around with cholesterol med dosages. Thank heaven, because I’m finally used to managing the current batch of side effects.

I am sampling SMN scents and I am in Pot Pourri.
Even though eucalyptus is not listed as a note, I smell it!
The combination of Mediterranean herbs creates a cool, Vapo-Rub effect. From the website, official notes include a large blend of aromatic plants, flowers, roots, and spices.
Its smells like an herb garden of rosemary, thyme, and bay leaves and eucalyptus left to dry in the summer heat. I don’t how else to describe it!

Have you ever read the novel Eucalyptus by Murray Bail. It’s a fable about a father and daughter in outback Australia. The father has a huge collection of eucalyptus trees and the person who can identify them all will get to marry his daughter ( try and overlook that bit!). It’s really about story telling but the trees are central and it’s a good read.

I have Carnal Flower on my left arm. This fragrance is SO not me, yet I love it and have treasured my special decant. On my right arm, I have Diptyque L’eau Trois. It’s so soft that there is no issue with wearing both, but it’s definitely an interesting combo. And sometimes interesting is all I want.

I have zero eucalyptus scents. My 34 Saint Germain is the edp so I don’t think that contains it. But I am wearing it nonetheless and pretend while smelling great!

I was also looking at Carnal Flower but could not find my little sample so I went with something even better, Hiram Green Moon Bloom. There is possibly some eucalyptus in there.. I paired it with another all natural tropical bloom delight, Melia Lei from Providence Perfume Co, my sample has just arrived. The tanning oil note is a nice little touch, but otherwise I was hoping for more plumeria and it that respect, I’m not sold on it. And like Moon Bloom, it’s lush but slightly too coconutty. I will enjoy wearing them both today though.

I am wearing Carnal Flower After Sun Balm, a freebie from the very nice SA at Harrods in 2019. I don’t know whether the scent has dissipated over the years or if it was always unscented so as not to irritate after sun skin, but there’s no scent now. The texture is very nice and I spread it on my so-dry arms. I’m also wearing a few spritzes of A La Nuit for a little pizzazz.
Question–I am looking for wide-leg, summer weight pants with a 31-32 inch inseam. Can you recommend where to look? I did get a nice pair of chambray ones from Quince but I need another pair of something else.
You could try LL Bean. They offer a “medium tall” size (32-inch inseam) in a lot of their women’s pants. There’s a washable linen pair that looks very summery.
Try the J Jill tall pants. I’m 5’ 11” and have good luck with them.
Duluth – usually on sale and free shipping as well. The pants are NOT dressy.
Levi’s currently has something called “Ribcage Wide Leg Linen Women’s Pants” on their website. Those might work for you.
I’m trying to imagine what I would smell like if I wore 100 sprays of Carnal Flower a la OverSpray Jay, the TikTok influencer who recommends 100 sprays for each perfume wearing and whose catchphrase is “If you ain’t shining, are you even applying?”

I have a few bottle iterations and today I used the synesthesia version with big blobs of white and black. As always, it is lovely!
We have lift-off for our tour around the Rutgers campus on Monday. We will start at Kirkpatrick Chapel for a private tour of the window (not sure which one 🤷🏻♀️), we’ll then walk around the campus and then have lunch. We were so looking forward to having lunch at Brower Commons but , it is no longer there! We’ll go some place local instead. We’re also planning on going to another campus but if it is too hot, I may skip it.
I probably missed it, but why are you touring the campus?

I have only one on the list, Ambre Lumière from Molinard. I hadn’t noticed any eucalyptus before, but with the power of suggestion I do now. I’d actually managed to plan ahead for the CP and brought some with me.
It was lovely meeting Kanuka yesterday, we talked about all sorts of things, and she gave half a dozen perfumes! That is so generous, and I had a lovely time sniffing them last night – some lovely things.

I really thought I’d have to skip this week’s cp because I really dislike the smell of eucalyptus and would never knowingly buy a fragrance with that note. So I was first of all surprised at the huge number of fragrances with that scent note I found on fragrantica (and, like some of you, I never heard of most of them!) but even more surprised to learn that Yardley English Lavender contained that note. I’ve worn and enjoyed the classic English Lavender for years every Spring and would’ve never guessed it contained a eucalyptus note. (Actual notes are lavender, rosemary sand eucalyptus on top, clary sage, cedar and geranium in the middle, and musk, tonka bean and oakmoss as the base.) So that’s my SOTD and I’m glad I could participate!
Had a wonderful afternoon ice cream 🍨social at my library to honor us volunteers and now I’m on my way to visit our community’s Pride 🏳️🌈event in a nearby park. Had some rain this morning but hoping it stays away now til much later.🤞

I think this painting by Frederick McCubbin must be one of the most famous, or recognisable , Australian paintings and shows the colours of gum trees and the ground beneath so beautifully. Gum trees are quite cool because they grow a skin of new bark every year which is why you see the old bark shedding off in long silvery ribbons. The gums around the cemetery drop the most amazing strips of bark and when you sniff them the scent is like a dusty eucalyptus, without the sharp astringent top notes. Our botanic gardens features a large area of eucalyptus specimens; some of the trees are enormous. I’m wearing Tacit today. Haven’t checked the notes but it captures the vibe ( and is Australian)

Stunning painting, Kanuka, I love the color palette, very muted and eucalyptus like, and I’m joining you in Tacit, which is certainly eucalyptus-adjacent if not the thing itself. And as you said, comes from the original land of the eucalypts. We have a lot of them here in Southern California, many originally planted as windbreaks for farms, but they apparently secrete oils and chemicals that kill off many other plants and trees around them so a mixed blessing. Nature’s chemical warfare.
Yes…the groves at UCSD never had anything growing beneath the trees, just a bed of bark. I never thought about why.
I’ve been flying under the radar for the last couple of days, no eucalyptus to be found anywhere.
Today, I’m wearing a generous amount of CSP Coco Figue. I feel like I’m at the beach, lounging in the sun, icy blended adult beverage in hand, sunglasses perched precariously on my pug nose. Except, I’m in an air conditioned room, curtains closed to deny the sun’s rays a single crack of entrance, with an eye mask on ready for a nap on the “beach,” the beach being my bed. This perfume makes you feel like you’re living a totally fake AI life on the interior while you’re firmly grounded physically in the ambivalence of reality on the exterior. The dichotomy of life. 🏝️🏖️🌊

I really like it! Chypre fragrances often give me headache or don’t appeal, but this is winning me over. 😍
So far no headache and I even like the leather note. I really wonder if my sense of smell has changed a lot lately. 🤔

ahhhhh, disappearing perfume can be so frustrating! Bvlgari Black does that to me every time.
Not as hot today, which was a pleasant surprise. But it was still in the upper 80’s here, which is around 30 or 31 degrees C, if I have done the temperature conversion correctly.
My SOTD yesterday turned out to be a heavy duty aquatic scent on me, which is several different kinds of Nope!
SOTD = CK Contradiction for Women. I still have the original bottle I purchased when it first came out.

I sometimes see Contradiction around. I assume it’s been really reformulated, like poor Obsession. You’re lucky to have your original bottle.
Contradiction was the first CK fragrance that I really liked. Obsession didn’t work for me back in the day. That changed slowly over the decades. I find the current version of Obsession to be a solid amber even after all the reformulations.

I’ve been about to wear perfumes with a eucalyptus note all week and have enjoyed my selections. Today I’m in Fzotic Feu Secret, which I think has the most prominent eucalyptus from what I’ve worn.
Others this week:
Monday – Fūm Jurassic Flower (coastal magnolia, really lovely)
Tuesday – Carnal Flower (technically camphor but still works, I think, plus I got a perfume compliment)
Wednesday – Claus Porto Agua Vetiver (coastal vetiver, detectable eucalyptus briefly)
Thursday – Nostos Shiver (pretty new brand & indie perfumer Marissa Zappas is the nose, nice take on a “cold” scent)

I sprayed on Guerlain Pampelune today. No points but I found my hubby’s bottle of Calvin Klein Escape; it’s in the frosted pour-style bottle so it’s probably vintage. I think I bought it at Duty Free on a weekend cross-border trip long ago.
Pour or splash bottles are hard to find now, and they are all I used to buy.
Late to post but o adore eucalyptus. It’s been around so often for very happy events if o catch w whiff even of dried eucalyptus I feel so blessed to have had the place and or event happen. Sadly all I could muster up, since I ran out of my Big Sur Eucalyptus sample long ago, was BBW Eucalyptus mint with matching hand crème that I purchased quite a while ago. I did pair with eucalyptus mint tea! Scent,!lotion and tea! Triple CP points?
