Friday scent of the day 8/14

Posted by Robin on 14 August 2026 111 Comments

Happy Friday and happy National Creamsicle Day!  Our community project for today: wear a creamsicle fragrance, if you have one. (And you can find lots of suggestions — including layering combos — in the comments to 5 perfumes: consider the creamsicle). This is a repeat from 2020.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I completely failed...I tried a layering combination of DIY Sweet Orange Lotion, Hermès Elixir des Merveilles and Maya Njie Vanilj, which I thought might produce something like a creamsicle cookie, but nope, no creamsicle whatsoever.

Reminder: 8/21 will be Forgotten Friday...root around in your perfume cabinet or drawer or basket of samples or what have you, and find something you keep forgetting to wear or forgot you even owned.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll occasionally manage to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello and tgif!
My creamcicle combo is Parfums de Rosine Vanille Paradoxe + Clarins Eau Dynamisante. Orange creamcicle in a herb garden. Not as sweet as I wanted because ED is on the drier side but pretty nice!
I have been tracking these 2 packages I sent to my friend in Saudi Arabia. Post office said 7 days max, its been 10 and is still stuck in the early stages of transit. Ugh. I need them to reach her before her birthday!
Oh stolen bag final update! I emailed the vendor my police report and they have started investigation. I received a call yesterday that despite not yet finding out who or when the theft occured, they will refund me nonetheless! Yayyy!

Great news on your bag and boo-hiss on the packages. I hope that once they get out of the ‘early stages’ things will move faster. I like the idea of ‘orange creamsickle in an herb garden.” Gives the somewhat bland oreamsickle a little zing.

Robin, I think your combo works beautifully, what did it end up smelling like if not a creamsickle?
I’m in my beloved Theorema which I don’t think of as creamsickle at all as it’s not that sweet and not that creamy on my skin, more an orange chypre, but I’ll happily claim it for the CP since better minds have embraced it.

I think the Vanilj overwhelmed the Elixir and I should have rethought the proportions? It did not smell bad at all, but was not an improvement on either of the fragrances.

AI, taken from Armani Australia, I suspect you have already tried this but just in case:

To remove the magnetic bottom plate from an Giorgio Armani Privé presentation case or refillable bottle, firmly pull or slide the plate straight down against the magnetic pull, or use a thin plastic pry tool along the edge if it is stuck.
      Removal Steps
Hold the bottle or outer wooden/lacquered case securely in one hand.

Grip the bottom magnetic base with your other hand.

Pull straight down with steady, even force to overcome the magnetic attraction.

If it is tightly fitted or wedged, insert a thin plastic spudger or card into the tiny seam between the base and the body to gently pop it loose.

Avoid using harsh metal tools to prevent scratching the finish.

I went with one of the classic combination suggestions, and layered to Ateliers, namely Vanille Insensee and Orange Sanguine. It now occurs to me that I never actually had a Creamsicle; for one my parents didn’t believe in sweets.

I doubt they are worth trying now…there seems no way they are as delicious as they used to be.

That is the case with all childhood candy and desserts to me, and I’m not sure if it’s because the formulas have changed or my sweet tooth has. Maybe a bit of both. Candy and chocolates are always getting reformulated using cheaper ingredients and We Can Tell. Feh!

    Hello! Happy Friday 🙂
I chose Bond #9 Little Italy. It’s a beautiful true orange (with a jasmine dry down, but that doesn’t add to the creamsicle concept). Made by the samesperfumer who helped compose Eau d’Hadrien-my desert island scent.

Chinatown has a strange herbal almost bitter apothecary medicinal note that I alternately love and get nose fatigue on but which keeps drawing me back. My current bottle must be the 5th or so that I’ve bought or swapped for.

    Happy Friday NST!

Sotd – a fail I admit. I’ve layered Hermes Orange Verte w Balalada Cheirosa 62. Whenever I get a whiff of myself my nose wrinkles up. Not quite a scrubber, but the Hermes was my most orangey.

I’m grasping for a metaphor – it seems rather than marrying or even cohabitating, the two are bringing out the worst in each other. The Hermes smells much more masculine like a barbershop but in a bad way not a sexy guy kinda way rather than unisex and the Badalada is cloyingly sweet, like being a cotton candy shop on a hot, humid day and needing air. Gosh I think I’ve talked myself into scrubbing it off but maybe it will settle. I’ll give it another 30 min.

A beautiful fragrant day to all!

Well I had to hop into an Uber for a medical appt and my driver immediately complimented me on my scent so either it smelled getter from a distance or he wanted a larger tip (which I have him). It’s melted together better I have to say, but the first 30 min were not good. Thank you for asking HJS!

I’m layering HG Tryst with Outremer Vanille for the creamsicle effect. It’s not sweet enough to be a classic creamsicle but I can imagine it as a fancy flavor at a gourmet ice cream shop.

Mr. allo will be traveling a lot this next 2 weeks so I’m going to be rooting around the Perfume Fort and wearing a few indolic favorites for Forgotten/Forbbiden Friday😋

I’m perfume free up at our cabin, but I did treat myself to the new Orange Cream Coldfoam Matcha Latte on the drive up! Lol, that’s a long title. Iced matcha latte with a topping of orange vanilla foam on top. It was actually quite tasty and the orange complimented the matcha. So that’s as close to a creamsicle I’ll get for the next week.

Yes. It’s one of their new summer offerings. I’ve had the Strawberry Coldfoam before, but the orange was a better combo in my opinion,
I need to figure out how to make Coldfoam at home (YouTube) as Starbucks is just so ridiculously expensive.

I’m wearing a spray of Orange Sanguine topped with half a spritz of Pacifica Tahitian Vanilla. It’s not precisely Creamsicle, there’s too much orange, but it’s pleasant. Smoke is back in the PNW today so I will work in the garage, I guess. I need line guides to get the Crosstrek to fit in the very small garage without taking out the side mirrors.

    Hello, scented ones.
My creamsicle-esque vintage L’Artisan layering effort turned out to be quite successful. though I’d say it’s dryer than might truly count for the creamsicle brief.
I went with a hefty application of Mandarine Tout Simplement with very light spritzes of Vanilia. (The MTS in the ginormous bottle, which I dig out only rarely, has become more intense than it once was because of evaporation, but it is still pretty light.)

Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Orange is, as you can imagine, a spray-on Creamsicle, and it’s just delicious. A co-worker who is not a fan of fragrances — she never wears them — took hold of my wrist for a deep sniff, so you know it’s good. It was a limited edition a long time ago and I’ll never understand why they never added it to their lineup in all the decades since: it’d be a guaranteed best-seller.

A second comment, non-creamsicle related: on my way off property to grab an Uber out two mimosa trees were in glorious bloom AND hosting a butterfly extravaganza. The trees were full of butterflies dancing all over sometimes with the poseys sometimes with each other- a mating butterfly happy hour perchance. So in brief deliriously gorgeous and glorious!!!

In 24 Faubourg for its orange & vanilla, though creamsicle is probably a stretch.
All the talk about ice cream products reminded me of the infrequent visits from the Good Humor truck in my childhood. My fave was called an eclair bar, I think. It had crushed almonds atop a chocolate shell with vanilla ice cream. The thing that made it super special in my mind was the small piece of chocolate (attached to the stick) that revealed itself once the ice cream was consumed.

I’m wearing a sample Gaynor gave me, a vanilla -almond-tonka scent from Atelier Materi called Tonka Kumaru which I initially read as Tonka Kumara…so was anticipating a Tonka sweet potato perfume, which seemed intriguing ( kumara = sweet potato here). Anyway, it’s very powerful and is still going strong after 12 hours. It also seems more heliotrope than almond or Tonka. I watched the original Alan Alda Four Seasons last night with the great Sandy Dennis and Carole Burnett, such a terrific movie and so much better than the recent bland series. I think I might do a Sandy Dennis mini festival as she was magical. Have a happy weekend.

Forgot all about perfume this morning as I was wanting to hit the road ASAP for fear of nasty weather popping up this afternoon. Finally tucked in and ready for an evening of movies. I’ve got nothing for the CP, although Pyramus is making me very jelly of that CSP Vanille Orange!🍊

So instead I went with a creamy woody scent, no orange in sight but still, it’s a fan favorite: Bois des Iles EDT. As soon as I uncapped the bottle and got a whiff my brain just went “Ahhhh!” 🙂 Not a bad feeling after driving five hours on a grey, dreary day. Looks like the End of Times out there and I’m happy to be parked.

Also, don’t ever, Ever, EVER eat anything from Costco that you don’t have to cook to a high enough temp to kill microbes. I was so sick all night from those damn pinwheel/rolled tortilla sandwiches they make. Never again, Costco! 🤢 if I hadn’t just renewed my card I’d boycott them, not that they’d notice, but I’d feel self righteously RIGHT! 🙃

For Creamsicle Friday I am wearing Profumum’s Dulcis in Fundo. It really did smell like a creamsicle at first, but now (4 hours later), it smells more like smoky vanilla. Maybe just my nose…

Still working on our big rock wall/fence project which Mr. SP insists on doing ourselves, although we had a little help from our former neighbor and recent guest (and Mr. SP had helped him with a project last spring), so that was a very nice sharing of talent — and sweat. I also bought some blueberry plants to add to our garden (not the rock wall) and am excited about planting those!

Hello, everyone. Robin, interesting thinking with Your fragrance combo. Elixir des Merveilles is a VERY earthy, patchouli one. Orange is strong and candied. I don’t know about the other one that seems to be a vanilla one. But as You said: no creamsicle with Your combo.
I can’t remember what I wore to work but something for sure. Even though I am a landscaper I do use good fragrances at the start of the day, any day because I enjoy it that much.
I do know mid work day I was so hot, and I spilled some gasoline on myself so I hopped in the shower at lunch time and changed my clothes. After that midday shower I wore Cristalle and loved it.
I wore Gabrielle pure parfum last night and loved it.
I am after work now and drinking a coffee and just checking out the comments here but I also scrolled a general news feed. I came across this super cute Louis Vuitton Dachshund little purse. It makes me realize I do have an expensive taste just generally speaking. I just don’t have a big enough wallet to match my appetite haha but You know what? If I did make a lot of money I would probably still not buy much of the most of the luxury I see and would try to help my family first. I do not have any urges to own an expensive purse but that Dachshund LV purse is really really something I would definitely splurge on if I could. I am just rambling, I am happy with cheap purses/backpacks. I don’t even understand the hype with Birkin bags. If I had 20000 to blow I would just buy Chanel jewelry and some of the Exclusifs perfumes, but I could never just appreciate a good bag. I know I’m repeating myself but today was the first time I really really really liked a bag and that is this Dachshund I came across. It is just soooo darn cute.

I carry a black backpack 99% of the time, but I like to admire the Loewe bags from time to time, especially the animal bags, so I get the attraction! I just luckily don’t have any desire to carry one around. If I had 20000 to blow, gosh, I’d have to think about it…for sure I would not buy a purse but there is probably something equally useless I can’t think of at the moment 🙂

Haha right. There can always be something useless we can think of. I was not aware of Loewe animal bags and I am off to look it up immediately.

    SOTD = L’Artisan Parfumeur Seville a l’Aube

Creamsicle? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I say yes, so there’s that!

In other news, even though I can now share as many gift articles from the New York Times as I want to, BUT, BUT, BUT, one now needs to have a free NYT account in order to read it. Boo hissss! So, for what it’s worth, here’s an article on buying 1/2 price sushi from Japanese groceries, only if you’re willing to stand in line…

Thanks for the 411 on the New York Times articles. I wondered why I was seeing that notification window lately when I followed your links.

I just found my decant of Profumum Roma Sorriso which is like a yummy chocolate vanilla orange creamsickle, so that’s what I’m going to wear this evening in honor fo the CP since the Theorema doesn’t last that long on me. Thank you to the perfume fairy who sent me this decant, much appreciated!!!

Madonna Truth or Dare Naked for the CP. It’s a caramel/coffee/choc chip swirl.
This evening I’ll wear Cacharel Liberté, which is a sizzling orange sherbet gelato.

Not exactly wearing the duo together in laters but close.
Hope everyone has a sensational weekend.

    Song of the Day:
    https://youtu.be/grHKQRLq1Gw?list=RDgrHKQRLq1Gw

It’s not often that I have such a perfect song match to one of NST’s community projects. Had to share it!

Volatile weather for me today. The temperature shot up by about 10 degrees from yesterday, bringing in a bunch of thunderstorms this afternoon. Was under a bunch of weather alerts that fortunately did not turn out to be serious for my location. Still keeping an eye to the sky, though.

SOTD = Imaginary Authors Sundrunk. Pairing it with Josie Maran Vanilla Vibezzz body butter. I figure an orange soda and vanilla ice cream float is pretty close to a Creansicle, right?

Some places down in the Denver area got golf-ball sized hail and flash flood watches. Other spots had enough hail to shovel.

Keeping an eye to the sky again today.

You smell good! I may have a sample (a small one …) of Sundrunk and will have to pair it with something else.

Checking in from work. It’s supposed to be my weekend off, but I’m making up lost hours from earlier in the week. I’m running out of personal days, and there’s still a lot of year left.
I’m wearing Orange Sanguine, combined with TF Metalique. It didn’t smell as as good as I thought it would. The vanilla in Metalique is too clean smelling.

Good morning, everyone. Just woke up and drinking a coffee. One of our window AC units gave out so I have the not-so-pleasant situation where I have to help my Father replace it. My Father is very short tempered and just not easy to be around but working on fixing something with Him always is very stressful. I am not talking bad about my Father – just stating facts. Today is one of the rare mornings I am not even thinking of a fragrance because of it.

Fixing stuff with your Dad sounds like how it was with mine.

My brother said he saw a T-shirt online which said something along the lines of “You can’t scare me. I used to hold the flashlight for my Dad.” I lmao’ed when the told me about it. We both remember those days…

Robin, I ended up looking up Loewe animal bags and they are so adorable!! While doing a general search for Loewe animal bags I came across a Michael Kors Outlet (notice the word “Outlet”) Scottie purse that is sooo cute I just almost fainted – but the price of $249 is actually not so cheap for my budget right now. Problem with Michael Kors is that for the last 25 years of living in my town I have seen Michael Kors purses and merchandise at my local dress-for-less store all of this time. We have 3 discounter stores like that in my town and I can get a Michael Kors bag for $20 there at any given time. Ok but the Scottie is super cute and special, right? But still I just wouldn’t pay $250 for a brand I can get stuff from for 20 bucks on any given day.
Also since I’m thinking of these animal bags why not go on *mazon and get a generic animal bag for cheap. Because there is something about a name brand fashion house coming up with these cute animals that are functional purses and I adore the idea.
If I had 2000 to blow I would get another piece of Chanel fine jewelry for my collection (second hand of course like I have been) or 4 x Chanel Exclusifs Extraits.
By the way I found a set of 6 x Chanel Les Eauxs in 15ml format. It costs close to $300 but oh how cute. I would love that set but it’s 15ml x 6 which is just 90ml. I can get one huge bottle of Les Eaux for around $100 on second hand websites.

Also I am sorry, and not sarcastic or anything like that, because I don’t mean to mislead anyone.
Chanel Paris – Venise, it is an iris fragrance. But besides the iris – it is totally a creamsicle perfume. It is neroli, iris and Tonka/vanilla. It’s a very important staple in my collection, reached for much more often than I thought I would. It is an eau de toilette but really lasts. Sprayed on my Daughter’s clothes in a small amount in the morning, I can smell it 12 hours later before the bath. Besides the gorgeous iris, not too earthy but also not so sheer and prominent, very polished very elegant. The neroli/Tonka/vanilla combo is a total creamsicle. I will put it in these words: when I spray it, I instantly think of creamsicle and our community project had nothing to do with my train of thoughts.

D’oh, a day late! — but I wore Ormonde Jayne Tanger, which feels like the fanciest neroli creamsicle you can imagine. I love it, hahah.

    Enjoy the weekend, all.
