Friday scent of the day 1/16

Posted by Robin on 16 January 2026 145 Comments

It's Friday and National Religious Freedom Day, plus, National Nothing Day. (Birthdays: Susan Sontag, Sade, Kate Moss). Our community project for today: take a break and wear what you want.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm in Balenciaga Paris L'Eau Rose.

Reminder:  on 1/23 there will be a community project, and I'll announce it by Monday.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Forgot to post yesterday and I wore Infusion d’iris. Today I will be wearing Cheirosa 62.

Just got an email from Luckyscent and they re-released What We Do In Paris Is Secret. I am thinking of getting a sample of it. Thinking is the operative word.

I like that one, but did not need a full bottle.

Ack, as soon as I hit post I realized no, I liked Paris*LA or whatever it was called.

And looks like that one did not get re-released.

Well, if it’s National Nothing Day, what choice do I have but to wear Nothing? In other words, Etat Libre d’Orange Rien (“nothing” in French), which I assume is ironically named, in the puckish ELdO manner, because it is a whole lot — leather and smoky incense dominate, with spices and a little dirt, like a motorcyclist in an ashram. It’s the vintage stuff (if something launched 20 years ago can be called vintage) and I gather it’s been modulated into something much tamer, but I should wear it more: it suits me really well, and if I use it up, at least I enjoyed it, right?

Following your example! In the tiniest of spritzes since I have to be out in public. Even more ironically, I believe the new, milder version is called “Rien Intense”…

Yep, I had the same thought that I should wear Rien! I’ll have to see where my hand ends up after my workout & shower, though. 🙂

Wearing L’Artisan Poivre Piquant, which is perfect for the cold temperatures we are having today.
It is 25 degrees right now, sunny, but feeling in the low 10s. It is going to get worse, with temperatures expected to reach only the 20s in the next couple of weeks. Looking forward desperately for Spring!

On my second cup of coffee and a chocolate cherry muffin.
    Happy Friday! 🌞

    Hello and tgif!
I am rarely a “less is more” person. I am often a maximalist and more is frequently better.
So for Nothing day I reached deep into my archive and pulled out an opposite bottle, Rabanne Lady Million Absolutely Gold. A loud perfume with a equally if not louder name.

Another wonderful photo. Reminds me of living in Germany when we used to put out seed/ fat for the Blaumeisen. I went to the (28 Years Later) Bone Temple ( zombie) movie with my son last night. There’s a lot of violence/ cruelty that I didn’t watch but the performances from Ralph Fiennes and Jack O’Connell made the experience worthwhile. A great showpiece of Fiennes dancing to Motörhead…blew it out of the park. It was a scary movie and felt very “now” . Wearing Aerin Mediterranean Honeysuckle which is a grapefruit soap scent with a floral drydown. Nicer than it sounds but lacking in a real honeysuckle note. Raining again. Happy ‘do nothing’ if you’re in USA

Thanks for the review! I saw the original movie with a (very young) Cillian Murphy and thought it was great. But I’m not that interested in yet another iteration of what was a good concept.

No, it’s quite different. The zombies are in the background now and it’s more about how humans are responsible for the evil and chaos ( hence the contemporary feeling). Cillian Murphy reappears in the next segment, which may be about redemption. It’s a good movie

Byredo De Los Santos. I don’t know why I don’t reach for this more often.
I slept better last night. Hope you did too lillyjo! I was tempted to sleep without an alarm and just get up when I woke up, but I set my alarm and got up and went to 7 am barre class. One of my new year intentions is to go more often. Last year I made 122 classes, which is only an average of 2.3 classes a week. 😏 This year my goal is 156; an average of 3 classes a week, which seems reasonable. I am starting the year trying to get a head start and have been going 4 times a week. My studio has added more strength classes, which is exactly what this middle aged body needs. 💪

I’ve had a hectic week at work, but I’m feeling much better now that it’s Saturday morning and the start of a long weekend.
This afternoon, we’re going to my cousin’s 70th birthday. It’s a significant milestone, she was treated for ovarian cancer some years ago and her oncologist didn’t think she’d make it to 60.
I’m thinking about wearing Le Temps d’une Fête, it’s one of my summer favourites, although the weather is not summery at all!

From an often-used sample that has dwindled down to almost nothing. Presque rien de tout! 😉 And I love the word salad name.

Such a pretty pretty pretty floral perfume. 🌸 It’s a little musky for my musk-averse nose, but I don’t mind at all.

I’m wearing Osmanthe Yunnan today for Nothing Day. I put it on about 3 hours ago and there is the merest wisp left. “Juneuary” continues in the PNW with warm temperatures for this time of year. The ski areas are hurting, there’s hardly any snow and what’s there melts during the day and freezes overnight, so skiers are either on ice, slush, or dirt. Nobody wants that.

Yeah, the ski hills up here close to the city (Vancouver) finally did get some snow, and are pushing their marketing hard, but I’m skeptical it’s good snow. I’d hoped to maybe go to Whistler for a weekend with the kid, as they’ll have better snow, but things up there are so crazy expensive now that I can’t justify it.

I adore Whistler! It’s my favorite place to ski & apres-ski. Although I still hold out hope I’ll win the Lottery and be able to spend a winter in Europe skiing France, Italy, and Austria. I still remember watching my first Winter Olympics at Innsbruck. I was glued to the tv and fell in love with skiing. I was very young.

Skiing in Austria is a LOT cheaper than Whistler these days, I say from experience. 🙂 But you have to get there, I guess. (We were living over there when we went down to ski.)

I figure 1) win lottery 2) invite your friends (👋 OG) to winter & ski because lottery!!!, 3) stay for winter so you get used to time change, altitude, immersive language, and new customs, 4) leisurely go from area to area with ole ty of rest time (I figure I could ski 3-4x per week, weather cooperating w rest days in between). Boy it’s late and now I’m going to fall asleep imaging this marvelous winter with friends and the magnificent Alps! Thanks OG for the inspiration!

None of the ski areas on Mt. Hood make snow. They do something called “snow harvesting” which means they move snow from places they don’t want it, like parking lots, and put it where they need it, on the lower hills, but they don’t make any.

Oh that’s interesting. We have a lot of ski places in Michigan. I’m pretty sure they all make snow when they have to. ( no need to this year. It seems like it’s snowed every day. )

Ski areas here in Colorado have the same problems that the PNW does. Some terrain isn’t even open due to lack of snow. And with some places in the mountains seeing temperatures in the 40’s (in freaking January!), whatever falls or is man-made doesn’t hang around long.

Quite the contrary! Most of the big ski resorts/areas do make snow. But not all ski areas have that technology. Or it’s not on all of the runs.

It’s just been too warm for most of the snow to stick around. It keeps melting away.

For National Nothing Day and today’s cp, it’s ‘Double or Nothing’ fragrance-wise for me. The world outside my window was white this morning with new-fallen snow ❄️ and we’re expecting a bit more tonight into tomorrow, so I’m doubling my ‘white’ fragrance SOTD, layering VS Cashmere Vanilla Jasmine over BBW’s Snowflakes and Cashmere body products and they harmonize beautifully together.❤️

In the early 2000’s, VS introduced their Parfums Intimes collection, 4 fragrances inspired by the materials used in their lingerie: cashmere, silk, satin and lace. I think this was their best collection ever. Everything about each scent – from its name, the bottle and packaging, and most importantly, the notes, perfectly mirrored the fabric they represented. Later, Velvet Amber Blackberry was added to the collection, again beautifully mirroring everything I said above. I have both the Cashmere and the Velvet and enjoy them both in the winter months.

We ran a second batch of errands this afternoon once the snow stopped, had a late lunch at Popeye’s, and are tucked in now for the night with 😻😽😸. Happy weekend to all!

SOTD = Chanel Homme Edition Blanche EDP

I looked high and low for the EDT and I ended up getting this instead. It is pretty good and perfect for nothing day!

I went to Whole Foods today to check out what’s on sale. My favorite TP is on sale so I stocked up although was only able to fit 3 sets. So I went to the self-checkout and then doubled back to pick up another set. When I got back (in < 1 minute), a woman was asking if the register was taken EVENTHOUGH there were at LEAST 3 other registers available. So I said yes, it is mine. And then she had the audacity to say the light is green … and I started to say I just went to get TP and she STOPPED me and said I don’t need to hear your explanation! Oh really? So I went ahead and explained in excruciatingly complete detail what I had done and she just walked away. When I was done, she was at the tail end register and was literally just standing there glaring at me. Sticks and stones …

    Happy Friday to All!💐

It’s a beautiful sunny day today, my day off and I went to an 2 estate sales where I was successful in finding 4 nice rugs for home and office, a beautiful Ralph Lauren scarf and an oil painting of tulips all for under $200! I love estate sales, even when I don’t find perfume🥰

Sotd is the lovely Grandiflora Madagascan Jasmine but since even stronger fragrances don’t last the day on me, I’ll probably go for a few spritzes of Encens Mythique for an afteroon walk with Mr. allo💕

I’m in “nothing” today because I decided to open the AbdesSalaam Kit of Perfumery Bases I got for Christmas. (If it’s a base, it’s “nothing”, right? Not a true perfume? I’m stretching…) I layered the one with rosemary, basil, and some other things (it’s at home, I’m not, can’t remember them all) with the leather one, and it’s fantastic. If I ever wanted to go the direction of having my own perfume made, he’s one I’d trust to do it.

It’s cold and windy here today. My power has stayed on, but some people to the north of me haven’t been as fortunate. But the numbers aren’t as bad as initially feared.

Teflon kitty decided last night that the warmest and coziest spot in the apartment was on my bed. I fell asleep to the sound of purring.

Commenting on one of Robin’s previous Daily Lemmings: The Rosa Charmosa Dewy Cream is a dead ringer for The Body Shop’s dearly departed British Rose Body Butter. So if you are missing it, now there’s a (more expensive) dupe for it.

SOTD = Coco EdP. I was inspired by majokkobiachan’s post yesterday to finally open up my little 1.2oz bottle. I am pairing it with Sol de Janiero’s Rosa Charmosa Dewy Cream. I smell GOOD!

Adorable 😸sleeps with me almost every night. If I’m laying on my back she’s sleeping in my lap. If I’m laying on my side, she’s in the crook of my knees. Changing positions is not the easiest for me as she prefers not to move!😾

I used to get pinned down in bed when I was owned by 3 cats. Teflon and her sister Pixel would sleep one cat per armpit, while Spooky kitty slept on or near my ankles.

        Sometimes getting up was problematic.

I’m in Aromatics Elixir; kept it to 1 spray, so that’s almost nothing, right? I’ve been known to spray this one many, many more times (especially during covid) to keep my 6 foot radius. I even sprayed my hands too!

I made a batch of lentil soup this afternoon. Nice to have lunches or dinners ready to go for a few days.

I could never spray my hands. I’m constantly opening my diet pop bottle and would get the taste in my mouth. ( although, I think I did spray my hands at least once during covid when I didn’t have any hand sanitizer)

I meant to chime in earlier today but it’s just been such a busy day..
I took the Nothing theme as “nothing artificial” and I decided to revisit my favourite all natural perfumes that I tend to wear in winter: Strange Invisible Perfumes Etrange, Aftelier Cepes and Tuberose, Florascent Medina and my recent discovery, LVNEA Feu Follet. I wore them all this week, along with my “calm down and hold your ground” office scent, DSH Bancha.
