Happy Friday and happy Juneteenth! Birthdays: Blaise Pascal, Lou Gehrig, Pauline Kael, Salman Rushdie, Ann Wilson. Our community project for today: wear a perfume that makes you think of sunshine and happiness. Thanks to SmokeyToes for the idea!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Me: day 2 in Parfum d'Empire Azemour Les Orangers (and I might just wear it all weekend).
Reminder: on 6/26, name a favorite "real life" smell — anything, really! a plant, a food, a place, whatever — and wear a perfume that reminds you of it. It does not have to have your chosen smell as an actual note, it can remind you of it for any reason. (Do be as farfetched as you like.)
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll occasionally manage to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Used my last drops of Hanbury today for the CP!
Thank you, Robin, for scheduling the new community projects. I especially love the lime and decade ideas. I just wanted to clarify that my comment yesterday wasn’t meant as a reproach – I simply found the CP paragraph funny. Of course, we understand that you have your own life to live, and that’s perfectly fine. We’re always happy whenever you find some time for us here.
Oh, I did not take it as a reproach Glannys! I know I am not keeping up and I appreciate it. And you know they are stocked at the moment but I will fall behind again 🙂
You smelled fantastic today!
I sure wish I still had some Rochas Byzantine, a brilliantly sunshiny-yellow scent, but since I don’t, I’m happy to be wearing Guerlain Terracotta Voile d’Ete, which smells of beaches and sun.
Oh that’s a gorgeous Guerlain, pyramus!
I used to wear Byzantine, it’s such a glorious perfume! You schmell wonderful!
My scent that makes me happy is Marc Jacob’s Daisy.
I just bought sandals today with daisies on them- the flower itself makes me happy. Nice choice of perfume
I have some with a daisy on too.
Marc Jacobs Daisy is so darn likeable!
It is easy to like.
I’m gettin’ figgy with it today. 🎶
Just a small spritz of CSP Coco Figue after a long night of herding cats. Yikes, me so tired. 🥱
Happy friYAY!!
I hope you get a day or two off soon. Fig in general does seem like an upbeat sort of note.
Fig is so uplifting, and in a few scents I adore. Dune Homme has the fruit and the leaf – pulpy and green, both are enjoyable. 🙂
You meant to sneak that earworm in there, didn’t you?
Holding on to humor by the skin of my teeth these days. 🙃
Lol! Good one!🎵👍
I try.😉
My choice for sunshine and happiness- FM Acne Studio. I thought I’d hate this, and I don’t at all. I bought a decant, drained it, and bought the 50 ml. I’m not keen on the word ACNE-even though I now know it’s a brand name. I liked the pretty pink/peach bottle. The scent is beautiful and lasts a long time. I’m not keen on the price but if you find it at a discount try it out. I do think beautiful things should be readily available tot he people who want to wear them.
Carole, I’m in total agreement on FM Acne Studio. You smell fabulous!
Thanks Daniel! Did you know the founder of ANCE wears Dans Tes Bras, and that’s how he met Frederic Malle?
I didn’t know that! How great!
Great tidbit, Carole.
Never heard of this perfume house
It is a fashion house and they did a fragrance with F Malle
https://www.acnestudios.com/
There’s an ACNE store on the upper east side of Manhattan. I was initially put off by the name but I finally got hold of a 10mL travel spray … which reminds me I have to wear it again soon — it is sunshiny!
I’m going with L’Artisan Histoire d’Orangers because the perfume and cream both evoke happiness and a sense that it’s all going to be okay.
Speaking of being okay, I’m hosting my little sister’s baby shower tomorrow and though I’ve got some anxiety about it going well, I’m trying to focus on all of the love and the weather forecast of a very temperate 76 degrees☀️
I’m also focusing on the fact that she thought she wouldn’t be able to have a baby and this little guy is a bit of a miracle, due at the end of July🥰
How wonderful for her, and you, and your family and friends!
We’re really excited to be together, celebrating this happy occasion.
Your event will go well, and we will wish your sister the best of luck in the coming days. I love your SOTD-I was debating between this, and ACNE studio 🙂
Thank you!
Manifesting all good things.
Much appreciated, apsara🙏
So much to be grateful for! I’m happy for you and your sister.
Thank you, DeniseH!
The baby shower will be great, and I’m so glad to hear about her little miracle!
Having spent the day preparing, I’m now relaxed and ready to celebrate💐
How kind of you to host the event, good luck with it all.
It’s so fun to take care of her in this way. She’s my sister but because she’s so much younger (30 years!), she feels like the sister and daughter I didn’t have.
How wonderful! Sending best wishes to all, and good weather vibes!
Thank you, Old Herbaceous. The nice weather is icing on the cake☀️
Glad to hear that your sister is still doing well! Do tell us how things turned out with the baby shower.
Thank you, Jalapeno! I will definitely report back, including a confession about whether I went back for more TJ’s flowers😬💐
Hehehehe!
That is wonderful for your sister.
She’s so happy. A little scared, but mostly happy and in a bit of disbelief.
I’m sure the shower will be great! I’m wishing all the best to your sister!
Thank you, lillyjo. When I host something like this and get anxious, I tend to forget that it’s the people and the occasion that make the event.
May a bubble of happiness surround you and your sister from now til the end of July!
Or gosh, forever, why not so long as we are wishing 🙂
Thank you, Robin. I love the idea of a bubble of happiness💗
I’m in the sunny and invigorating Bigarade Concentrée from Frederic Malle. I would spray it every half hour, just to get that zesty kick.
Speaking of sunshine..
Right now at Trader Joe’s (at least here in SoCal,) there’s a limoncello scented candle for sale. It comes in a gorgeous cobalt blue and sunny yellow striped ceramic jar, with a lid. (I bought two, just for the beautiful jars, which will eventually make lovely decorative containers.) Do seek it out if you’re attracted to a South of France/Mediterranean vibe.
House twins, and you know I love your SOTD, Daniel 🙂 I love the opening and also the hay notes in the drydown. I love the smell of hay. Have a great day and wish we had a TJ here-those candles sound special.
oh! Ears perk up at limoncello
I saw those candles at TJs the other day and can attest to Daniel’s description.
Thank you for the great recommendation! I love a good candle in a pretty container.
I have to be cautious with my kitty cat Beau, he’s fluffy and loves to counter surf.
These are pretty sturdy. Of course, Beau might possess surprising strength and determination.😎
Beau is delicate but the first cat that really enjoys knocking things off of counters.
My old cat SmokeyToes (my avatar) could care less. He was pretty chill.
We live in the north east of Scotland, but when we visit our friends in Oak Ridge North, Texas we always go to Trader Joe’s – absolutely love it, it’s a great place to find foodie gifts & ‘smellies’ gifts to bring back to our friends, & it’s also excellent for ‘ready meals’, especially their Indian range, which is useful as we’re both non-meat eaters & our Texas friends are most definitely carnivores, so prepping food for us is not easy for them!
Happy Friday to Robin, the founder of our olfactory feast, and all of NST who make this a beautiful uplifting garden of fragrance online!
Sotd Voluspa Neroli Sunbath layered with the SdJ Body Badalada Glow Lotion, Cheirosa 62 scent, that Robin posted about last month. Like them both separately and very much together.
Good to see you posting again-I missed your cheerful posts when you were away 🙂
Shucks, Carole! ☺️. What a compliment!
Great to see you here, LesLiesse, and sending healing thought out to all the LesLiesse family.
MomLiesse really appreciates this and so do I ! Will be around as much as I can during the respite because NST is so uplifting!
LesLiesse! Always a treat to see you here. And, like Denise, sending healing thoughts to you.🥰
Merci beaucoup Daniel! Wishing you an absolutely lovely Father’s Day!
Did you happen to see those lavender sachets that Robin posted as a Daily Lemming earlier this week? I thought of you.
No I missed it jalapeño. I’ve been citrus forward as an olfactory bulwark against sadness, but today in honor of Dua Lipa’s wedding g gown photos finally coming out I’m in Libre L’Absolu Platine.
When you are feeling down, remember that someone, somewhere is thinking about you. And hoping for the best.
❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹 I’m posting that up on my beloved whiteboard! Thank you!
Hi LesLiesse! I bet you smell wonderful!
My PT remarked on the combo scent when she was stretching out my body. She can’t wear scent at work but she enjoys it off-duty.
Why thank you, it was a very long but perfectly decent day, and I ate an entire chocolate bar plus got a nice walk in the sun.
Hope your Friday was everything you wanted LesLiesse 🙂
What a perfect, simple, joyful day Robin! I’ve got a big smile on my face imagining this!
Hi all! My SOTD is Jour ensoleillé by Sonoma Scent Studio, perfect golden floral chypre with a honeyed white floral note from tuberose. It reminds me of N. CA in summer, long hikes, and the relaxed vibe of wine country. It’s so enjoyable.
I’m heading to my PT session, hopefully I can progress to more activities.
Thanks for the well wishes, my meeting was stressful and we have more work ahead for us. We’re at the intersection of AI vs. protecting level 1 data and accuracy. State agencies aren’t designed to be efficient but here we are.
Wishing you best of luck to get on with your activities! I use to hate PT -I think at one point all called my therapist a sadist..lol
Thanks! I’m an odd duckie, I love the PT and look forward to anything that will get me back to spin class and heavy squats.
Activity is so good for my mental health and sleep quality, it’s second nature to me at this point.
Sending you healing vibes, SmokeyToes. May you be back to 100% soon. Golden chypre sounds good too.
Thanks Denise! It’s one of those perfect memory scents for me. This scent is just how I felt when I visited Sonoma and Calistoga for the first time.
I remember having a few salty comments while I was doing my PT back in the day. They just smiled and said something along the lines of “If you don’t hate me, I am not doing my job correctly.”
HA! That sounds about right!
I would add in my pilates instructors from back in the day were pretty tough. They were all retired ballet dancers and super strict about form and proper execution. But my back and core were in great shape, and my posture/carriage were excellent. Some of the best instructors I’ve ever had the pleasure of suffering with!
Hope the PT went well! If heavy squats are what you want, then I wish them for you 🙂
I absolutely do! My PR was squatting 225lbs and pulling 340lbs on the sled.
(omg, you put me to shame)
Hello and tgif!
Sotd is one of my most precious sunshine in a bottle Jour d’Hermes Parfum. Glorious stuff and it still pains me that they discontinued it. Hermès surely has more than enough funds to keep some golden elixir alive right? But hey, what do I know?
Hurray to team Canada’s amazing performance yesterday! Sorry about Kone’s broken leg though, hope they’ll keep winning nonetheless and advance further.
I was cheering Canada on! Though I am not sure why that player fro Qatar got a red card?! Who knows!
You smell marvelous! I’m bummed that it’s discontinued, it’s such a joyful scent and one of my favorites from Hermes.
You smell wonderful, I have it too and still have pangs of guilt that the seller didn’t realize it wasn’t a bottle of the much more common EDP price-wise. I am usually quite honest, I swar.
*swear
I was in downtown Vancouver yesterday and it sure was a happy crowd,
I chose Annick Goutal’s Eau d’Hadrien edt for the CP. Lemon and soft woods — gorgeous and summery, for a gorgeous and summery day here.
Hadrien is glorious. Eau de Camille is another beauty from AG’s collection. It’s too fleeting though, I wish it lasted for longer than six hours but oh the ride while I’m wearing it.
I’ve never sampled Camille. Is yours the current version or vintage?
SheriG you’re wearing my desert island scent-I never get tired of it, and love it for all occasions. You smell amazing.
Thank you, and same here!
Right now I am smelling like horse and sweat after riding this morning. That would be my smell of happiness, but not sunshine.
I am half-way through this book The Betrothed by Manzoni and had to look up why the Spanish were in Milan. Though the book is fiction, I wanted to know if this was based on real life back in the 1600’s. I will probably be back in SMN Melograno which has been a great scent to wear while reading this “door stopper” of a book. Wishing everyone a nice Friday. I will be watching World Cup later.
The smell of horses and sweat-that does sound like happiness, to me. Nice choice of Melograno as your SOTD 🙂
Oooh I want to read The Betrothed. Thank you for the rec, LTSG.
Same! I’m in search of a new read, definitely will add this to the list!
And horses/sweat and leather is a favorite scent of my childhood from when I used to ride.
My Italian friend recommended this book to me, and it was also required reading at her school in Italy.
I’m currently reading the newly translated version, as suggested by the sales associate at the bookstore. do
How often are you riding? Twice a week, or more often than that?
I salute you! I have been 1/3 of the way through The Betrothed for over a year now. I suspect I will have to start all over again.
Are you reading the penguin classic or the newest translation ?
Belated reply, but the new translation. And it is worse than I thought, I purchased the Kindle version in Feb 2023. Pretty sure I did not start it for quite some time after that, but still.
Testing Liis Bo today.
I ordered samples from Luckyscent rather than blind buy. This shows restraint? Maturity?
No matter, this is very pretty so far.
I have a rotating samples wish list that I sort thru, Luckyscent can be dangerous!
As is FragranceNet, they are selling 5ml travel size spritzers apparently. I wish I didn’t know about that. 😯
Wow, posts seem a bit slow today. I’m late but then I usually am. After almost twinning with Robin in Azemour, I tried to be original and am wearing a lot of sprays of L’Artisan Havana Vanille, the original one. I bought it in 2011 and it’s still about half full. It’s quite spirited/fun with its combo of rum and a liqueur-type of vanilla. I do feel bouncy when I wear it. About to go out for some Vietnamese lunch close by.
I’ve wasted too many hours on social media laughing at the often funny posts from FIFA fans who are now in Texas (either in Dallas or here in Houston). Everyone is going crazy for Texas BBQ, and for some reason, I’ve gathered that the Europeans are going mad for ranch dressing! It’s so strange.
Since I don’t go out to sports bars or whatnot I haven’t had any of my own encounters with fans, except I think there were some foreign visitors in a couple of the grocery stores I visited recently (they looked to be scanning a lot of shelves in a slightly confused way). We’re being told on the news to expect thousands of Dutch fans in a giant orange parade tomorrow before the big Holland-Sweden game. I’ll avoid the area but think it seems kind of cool. (Not literally, alas, I feel for them trying to cope with our awful heat and humidity here now. Hope they’re well hydrated.)
I can see where our American grocery stores are bewildering to foreign visitors. But have to admit that I would love to see a sea of orange jerseys! Orange is my absolute favorite color.
After watching speed skating in the winter Olympics, I wanted Jutta Leerdam’s warmup (bright orange) jersey in the worst way.
Sounds like you are enjoying all the hype! ⚽️
At the library there is so many patrons in FIFA jerseys. I love all of it!
I can understand foreign visitors going nuts for Texas BBQ. But ranch dressing?? Seriously?
Chanel Gabrielle pure perfume.
Oh, Gabrielle is one perfume I didn’t expect to love but wow, it hooked me from the jump. Happy and cheerful for sure!
It’s not what I usually go for but I too tried it and have thought about it since then.
That’s a happy scent.
Decided on Calyx by Prescriptives. This one is definitely happiness and fun in a bottle.
It’s been so warm here that some days I’ve been completely unscented. If I go outside I don’t want to attract any bugs! Today I’ll be most of the day as I’m making a batch of my raspberry ice cream. I’ll take a container with us for when we visit his dad on Father’s Day this Sunday. He’s probably the “best dad ever” so I don’t mind making it.
You’re wearing Good Stuff today! I should dig my bottle out soon, too.
Thank you, Jalapeno! It really is the good stuff; you do need to dig it out.
I noticed I’m down to the “last rung” of the bottle. Thankfully I do have a backup of the Prescriptives in my stash.
Have a great visit Sunday! Your ice cream sounds delicious.
Thanks lillyjo! I just had a sample; it’s pretty good.
Well I was dithering today. Do I wear Seville A L’Aube, which is dawn, right before the sunny sun comes out, but it’s still got plenty of that lovely orange globular fruit? Or Fendi Theorema, a golden warming opulent chypre. Both make me happy.
Theorema won out and it’s glorious. Since I’ve shirked my CP duties all week, I shall wear Seville A L”Aube tomorrow to catch up. My bottle needs more wear anyway, I’ve been neglecting this beauty and I cannot explain why.
I love Sevile so much I gave my bottle to the friend wo introduced me to eau d’Hadrien 🙂
I considered Theorema! Glad it was represented.
I’m in PdN L’eau à la Folie today, one of my happy summer go-to scents. Had a doctor’s appointment, and probably should have waited, but I really didn’t come near anyone, including the doctor.
It seems to be full-blown summer here, without too much of a Juneuary. Ockeghem Teen only has 2.5 days left of school, and we got the last concert behind us last night, thankfully. It’s been a long, stressful week for all of us. Sadly, she’s having to learn the downsides of group work with graduating Grade 12s– her group in one of her favourite classes is trying to sell homemade stress relief things to raise money for a teen mental health hotline, and she’s the only one who’s done any work. (Our dining room table has been a squishy factory for a week.) Definitely ready for this school year to be done.
I went rather minty too, with Covey on one arm and Mantes-la-Jolie on the other
Well she did the right thing even if she was the only one! So that’s the upside.
But I am sure you are both ready to be finished.
For sunshine and happiness today I chose Profumum Roma Acqua Viva, the sunniest lemon ever and it lasts on me! I don’t know how they do it.
It’s day one of jet lag prep for Malaysia, so I am going to bed and getting up one hour later for the next nine days until I’m synched with Malaysian time. It really does work for me, but I live alone and don’t have a set schedule. It’s pretty odd during the later days, sleeping 5am-1pm, but that puts me on a Malaysian schedule of sleeping 11pm to 7am.
Very wise your changing your schedule in preparation.
Do you also adjust your flight times to help sync up your circadian rhythm when you travel?
For the places I usually go, I am at the mercy of the airline schedule (usually only one flight a day) so I have to work around what is set in stone.
Gotcha.
I could do with something sunny today. We’ve had a few crisp wintry early mornings lately, but the clouds have soon arrived, and today it’s dawned very dull and windy.
I’ve decided on Guerlain’s Neroli Outrenoir, it’s lovely.
You chose an uber beautiful scent, Gaynor-I have the liquid soap, and some ten ml samples of the fragrance. I love it a lot.
An apple in lieu of smoothie
For the CP Lys Soleia, one of very few solar fragrances I really like. I remember my brother buying it for me in a department store (don’t remember which one) shortly after its release when I was trying it in the early 2010’s. Tonight it’s Ma Griffe extrait because a friend of mine wrote recently she adored a mini I had sent to her to California.
Apples are still in season for you?
I’m not sure, these are little apples (very good) that my local supermarket is placing in a container at the entrance, for free all this month to encourage people to eat more fruit.
Free fruit?!? That’s incredible!
That’s a very nice present from your brother!
Isn’t it? I am doubly grateful as LS is discontinued, I think it deserved to be made part of the Aqua Allegoria permanent collection and it seemed popular.
A beautiful day here with temps in the mid-70’s, low humidity and bright 🌞 to match today’s cp of sunshine and happiness.
For this morning and daytime activities including grocery shopping I’m wearing BBW’s Forever Sunshine, which perfectly matches today’s cp with its bright topnotes of mandarin orange, apricot and tangerine and summery florals in the middle of peony, freesia and gardenia. Just looking at the front of the colorful bottle with its bright flower that looks like the sun emitting rays brings a smile to one’s face. And as I’ve mentioned before, I wear this one every month to commemorate all my precious furbabies who have crossed over the 🌈 bridge but whose memories still bring a smile to my ❤️.
Tonight one of my favorite summer events begins, free community outdoor concerts 🎶. There are so many nearby you could go to one almost every night of the week. Tonight nearby is a 70’s club band in a nearby suburb at 6, then at 8 a salsa band in my town. To enjoy music of all kinds, especially outdoors with likeminded people, brings me happiness, as does Omnia Coral, my favorite summer scent and what I’ll be wearing tonight. Pomegranate and citrus brighten this one and, since my favorite color to wear in summer is bright coral, Omnia Coral says ‘yes’ to much of my wardrobe.👍
Happy weekend!🌞
Enjoy the free festivities
Omnia Coral has a wonderful hibiscus topnote in it as well as the pomegranate.
That sounds like so much fun! Enjoy!
SOTD is Parfums Dusita’s Cavatina. I love muguet fragrances so it makes me happy, and it smells like the return of spring and sunny weather! I’ve been traveling a lot this spring and just got back recently from London, where we had lovely weather and I visited gardens, as usual. The roses were better than I’ve ever seen them.
Hiya Old Herbaceous! Long time, no see.
Hi back atcha! Thanks for the welcome! I’ve been very tied up with a neighborhood issue; we’re trying to get our street designated as a historic district to prevent more teardowns of historic houses, and it’s an uphill battle. Very time-consuming. I hope you’re well!
I bet that is an uphill battle…very good luck to you Old Herbaceous!
Thank you! We are cautiously optimistic.
Best of luck with preserving your history!
You were in my neck of the woods, so glad you had a good time. Yes, before the good weather we had several spells of rain which must have benefited flowers and the lawns.
SOTD = MFK Aqua Universalis Forte
Lovely!
Every morning I usually partially open the curtains on the kitchen window and the slatted plastic window on the french doors. This morning, there was an alien roof-looking debris on my deck! What the —? I checked it out but couldn’t tell if it was MY roofing or next door’s. And because the back vegetation was completely blocking mine and next door’s deck stairs, I had to go around to see what’s what. As it turned out, it was the roof siding on my neighbor’s unit but of course it made me wonder what happened that it fell on my deck. Anyway, I texted the management company to let them know and also also to ask when they were going to clear out the vegetation. I hope they do it soon!
ACK! What a way to start off your morning!
I have learned to keep my blinds mostly closed in the morning here, because a lot of the windows in my apartment face East. It keeps the temperature down by several degrees.
Yikes! Good luck!
Enjoying another temperate day with loads of sunshine. It’s been in the low 80’s for most of the afternoon. Simply gorgeous. The heat will be back sooner or later.
SOTD = Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser. Smells like summer nostalgia to me.
It’s pleasant here too. I think July might be a scorcher.
About the only prediction I will make about summer here in Colorado is that it’s going to be dry.
Ooh, you smell great!
Thank you! Did you ever try the St. Tropez Dispenser Gold flanker?
No!
It is recognizably St. Tropez Dispenser, but made with higher quality ‘ingredients’. So it’s a little smoother.
Glad you’re having temperate weather.
Thanks! Looks like there is quite a bit in the extended weather forecast for here. But some rain would be appreciated.
I’m off for the next 3 day’s! Woo-hoo! It was a very nice weather day with plenty of sun. I’m wearing Dolce and Gabbana Devotion. It always makes me happy. 😀
I should have known you would pick that one 😂😂
Enjoy your break! You smell great!
Whoo hoo, long weekend for you!
Whenever I see you list D&G Devotion as your SOTD, the song “Love and Affection” by Def Leppard comes to mind. IDK why. It’s how my brain works.
So happy for you and quite rare that you’re taking 3 days. You’re smelling delightful of course.
