Friday scent of the day 2/13

Posted by Robin on 13 February 2026 138 Comments

It's Friday the 13th, plus World Radio Day. Our community project for today is Long Lost Love...wear a beloved fragrance that has been discontinued, or a fragrance that reminds you of a beloved person, pet, possession or place. Thanks to Old Herbaceous for the idea!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

A lost place and time: I'm remembering living near the beach in SoCal in the late 80s / early 90s, in Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aqua Motu.

Reminder: on 2/20, we'll honor the Lunar New Year (which was on Tuesday) by wearing a fragrance that reflects the qualities of the (Fire) Horse: energy, enthusiasm, independence and passion.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Thanks to a very generous member of this community I’m in vintage Lauren! I discovered it when I was 14. If I could get my hands on it I would apply lavishly. It reminds me of that summer, and bicycle rides. It’s a really nice memory.

And I can get behind world radio day. When I was very young we lived in Cape Breton, and I had a large radio. I’d put it under my pillow, to muffle the sound. Around midnight if the weather was good I could pick up the American radio stations-New York with Wolfman Jack was a favourite. I was mesmerized and I loved the music. I could tune in for a few hours. If I fell asleep the weather patterns would change again and I’d wake up to something I found depressing, like the local station playing Islands In The Stream by Kenny and Dolly(no shade-just wasn’t what I wanted:))

Really looking forward to today’s responses 🙂

Nice memory! I can remember hearing Casey Kasem American Top 40 on the transistor most weekends. It seemed to go on and on for hours. We must have had Wolfman Jack too as I can recall his voice

I am wearing Paco Rabanne Metal. I wore this a lot when I was young. My boyfriend at that time brought me this from US. I loved it and wore it all the time, years later I found a bottle, it smells great to me even today, it’s timeless.

Interesting that he brought it from the US, I think of Paco Rabanne as hard to find here!

I’ve had a headache today and haven’t completely recovered, so I went with something I didn’t really plan but that still matches the CP: Penhaligon’s Castile. Light and fresh – and I’m really sad Penhaligon’s discontinued it.
    Weather: warm (+1°C/34°F).
    Power: on.

I’m wearing vintage L’Aimant , which still exists in some form but probably doesn’t smell the same at all. The vintage stuff is like a more buttery, peachy No 5.

My guess is there’s probably vintage L’Aimant (the one I have) and vintage-vintage L’Aimant (the one you have) since there’ve been numerous iterations. But I still love it in all forms.

Sotd Kenzo Flower Oriental. Another great scent discontinued long time ago. I love the spicy, smokey incense note and it is not as powdery as the original one. I will miss it when my bottle is gone.

Finally, the temperatures are warming up. We will be in the 40s starting tomorrow. What a relief!
    Happy Friday! 🌞

Today I’m in the long-discontinued Clinique Chemistry, a men’s floral that I’ve always felt was the epitome of sophistication — another one of those scents that I bought the instant I smelled it because there was just no question it was made for me. The opening salvo makes me think of vintage Estée Lauder White Linen with a masculine twist, but eventually it goes its own way.

I chose Eau Sauvage for the CP. It always reminds me of my dad in the seventies — he wore the aftershave originally, but switched to the edt at some point, probably when someone gifted it to him. Then in about 1981 he grew a beard and stopped using scent … and it’s just now occurring to me that he probably applied the edt the same way as the aftershave. 🙄

    Hello and tgif!
Sotd is a discontinued beloved perfume, Amouage Beloved. This is one of the best from Amouage and I was silly enough to not buy a back-up.
Jalapeno, to answer your question from yesterday, I don’t have another special event to look forward to but I am looking forward to one special NY dish the Malaysian Chinese community eats during NY called Yee Sang. It’s a raw fish (salmon mostly I’ve heard) salad with many elements representing different auspicious sayings.

World Radio Day! I still remember sitting in my 7th grade homeroom class in junior high school and the nice boy (Gordy) who sat in front of me explaining to me how you could make a request for a song on the station that played “our” popular music. He was using George Harrison’s My Sweet Lord as an example. (How can I remember all that and never remember where I put my cell phone?!)

    Fendi Theorema today.

    SOTD Cristalle from sample decant
It was the 1990s and I was on the loose with my girlfriends on Fifth Avenue, youthful and electric. We ended up at Planet Hollywood stuffing our faces. In the bathroom, the attendant lined the counter with treasures — hairspray, combs, perfumes. (remember when they use to do this??) She misted my sweater with Chanel Cristalle, I fell in love on the spot.
My friend marched me to Chanel. $35.00 of babysitting money later, I held my first real bottle of perfume. I haven’t bought it since-but enjoying my small sample that still takes me back. Someone on NST said Cristalle smells like “dancing on snow.” It was winter when I first wore it, so this metaphor if fitting.

Not at all CP today. Wearing two sprays of Devotion from a travel size, which is two thirds gone at this point.

Very dreary today, a spit every now and again of a single drop of rain. Cloudy, with barely discernible mountains in the distance. The barometer must be wacky because my dog is acting all stressed even though there’s no thunder. Maybe something is headed this way…she’s a reliable indicator of storms.

I tried to get my taxes done yesterday and the entire outcome was so abnormal that I’m afraid I’ll have to go to a travel tax professional and spend the big bucks. Cue the crying…😢

    Stay safe, peeps!

I’m wearing an all natural perfume called Eros from Artemisia Natural Perfumes. The company is long gone and I have only a small bottle left but it’s a very special scent for me. It’s the only perfume I ever found that was made with a solid dose of bourbon rose absolute, a very distinctive cultivar with amazing, complex and deep scent, set on a base of oakmoss and orris butter. I wore this perfume for a while, including on my wedding day, and I was sad when the company disappeared, and this and several other great perfumes they made were no longer available. Lost but not forgotten..!

Once I hit the shower (moving slowly today since the other Ockeghems are not at work or school), I’m going to start today with Molton Brown Cool. This is so vintage, I guess, that not even the internet remembers it existed. (A search turns up their Cool Buchu scent, which is not the same.) I bought it for Mr. Ockeghem sometime in the late 1990s / very early 2000s at the exclusive men’s store just off Newbury Street in Boston (apparently now a Restoration Hardware). It was similar to what he wore when I first met him, which was an Abercrombie & Fitch scent from the ’80s (back when they were a high-end sporting outfitter, before they were bought by Limited) that he had, um, “decanted” from his dad’s bottle into a film canister that he brought to university. The bottle of MB Cool is still lurking in Mr. O’s vanity drawer, and he hasn’t worn it in forever. So I’m going to pull it out.

Tonight I’ll switch to vintage Halston for my mom.

What a wonderful memory, ockeghem, and you brought back one for me, too. I remember the old Louis Boston very well, and had a memorable shopping day there with a fellow perfumista from the old MUA days. I’m wearing Leather Jardin today because of its slight resemblance to Aramis (because I don’t have Aramis). My dad exclusively wore Aramis when I was growing up, and it just brings back memories of my childhood. Quite timely because he’s currently renovating my childhood home (he does not live there full time) and just last night he was telling me about the random old toys and things he’s finding.

I have never thought of Leather Jardin smelling like Aramis, but now I have to try it soon. My dad wore Aramis too and I loved it though he put it on pretty heavy.

It is an incredible 54 degrees as I write this. I can’t believe it 😳! It was 26 when I awoke this morning.and less than 7 hours later it’s gone up 30 degrees. A very nice morning to head out to yoga at a nearby library, then Costco, Aldi, BBW (coupon for free body care product, the Disney Princess line is absolutely beautiful for young girls), and a McD’s lunch as a treat for us for all that hard work. And 🌞 still shining brightly!

For today’s cp and Valentine’s Day Eve, I chose Avon’s Here’s My Heart (1958) to commemorate my mom and all the fun times we had together when our Avon lady would come to visit and entice us with new offerings to test. The scent itself is representative of those days gone by – aldehydic, a little powdery, green and woody with a hint spice from, I suspect, carnation. My bottle is at least 20+ years old or more; I can’t remember when I saw my last Avon lady. Hadn’t seen or heard of Avon in years, but in researching apparently they do have a website. I’m guessing Here’s My Heart is long d/c but I have no idea when.

Relaxing the rest of the day and looking forward to PBS and Olympics tonight. Happy Valentine’s Day Eve!💘

SOTD = MFK Ciel de Gum

I am almost positive that this had been discontinued. Besides having worn this not too long ago, I was reminded of it when I got an unsolicited comment on IG from a picture I posted over 2 years ago (I could look to be sure but I am lazeeeey)!

In other news, I still get emails from NJTransit about all the problems. I snicker every time I see one. Anyway, although not NJTransit, Amtrak is close enough. This gift article talks about the new* trains that are being built and are now being deployed to the east coast U.S. for testing. *The article talks about “50 years ahead” but the comments mention better technology in place for the past 20-30 years! I don’t control the comments so if you are a comments reader, don’t be surprised!

I took the Amtrak last summer up to the twin cities and I thought it was just lovely. So relaxing, nice roomy, fully reclining seats and a little cafe where people could get food or coffee. I think my ticket was $29 each way, a bargain!

Sounds great! I have taken Amtrak several times when traveling up and down the east coast (mostly for business) and they were all wonderful.

I used to see the Acela trains (Amtrak) come thru Philly and South Jersey. Sometimes the tracks they use are right by NJT ones.

I’m in 10 Corso Como, which worked for last Friday’s cp too! The only perfume for which I have a back up. This is part of my desert island 10, or maybe even 5.
It’s been a busy day. This Friday and last I have toured some apartments on behalf of gradtowngirl and her bf. They have set up the showings and then I FaceTime them during the walkthrough. Sometimes technology is really handy. Well, the second one I toured today they both fell in love with, as did I! And the best part is, it is 2 miles away. 🥹 They won’t move in until the end of the summer, but I am so excited to think that she will be back home!

Sampling PdE Ambre Russe today. It’s very good but something is a bit musty to my nose…maybe the cumin note? I tried Aziyade the other day and that has TONS of cumin that came off as body odor so a no go for me.

I have today off, and have been running errands and making phone calls. I get to sit and do nothing now.
My sotd is KL for women by Karl Lagerfeld. I have almost thunked this bottle many times, but there is still 1 or 2 sprays left. It is long discontinued and I will never replace it at the price it goes for. I remember in the 80s, I had the whole body product line. It was fantastic.

Midnight Poison has such a gorgeous bottle! I should get mine out.

Oddly enough, I don’t get any rose in it at all. Plenty of patchouli, and the citrus topnotes are present and accounted for. What are you smelling?

I’m getting some rose, but not too much. It’s definitely not a loud scent, unlike the original Poison (which I happen to have a few bottles of!) Like you, the patchouli is more of the standout, but still quite subtle on me.

I am wearing Chanel No.5 Eau Premiere in honor of my beloved grandmother who wore Chanel. She passed more than 20 years ago and today is her birthday. I had my first exposure to perfume at my grandmother’s home, looking at the bottles on her vanity. She also wore EL Youth Dew. I have a bottle of Chanel EDT from her, vintage probably 1980’s. I have to say I like the Eau Premiere version better.

Since it’s Friday the 13th, maybe I should have worn FM Superstitious? 🐈‍⬛

Feeling better today, but not 100%. Was shocked at how late I slept in this morning. Still taking it easy.

More snow in the mountains today. I saw a bit of rain here last night. Just enough to knock the dust down. Hoping for more over the weekend.

SOTD = Agent Provocateur L’Agent EdP. A discontinued incense flanker of Agent Provocateur that pairs beautifully with Korres Jasmine Body Butter. Wish I would have grabbed another bottle of this while it was still gettable.

Twins with SheriG in Eau Sauvage for the CP. I first smelled this on a friend, way before perfumista days, and was blown away by how nice it was. So far removed from the usual masculine fougère thing.
I loved it so much and tried for a while to get my husband to wear it, but no go. I sold the bottle I had bought for him, and when I told someone here that I missed it, she sent me a decant of it. ❤️
