Friday scent of the day 6/12

Posted by Robin on 12 June 2026 115 Comments

Happy (Boost Me Up) Friday! It’s also Anne Frank’s birthday, the World Day Against Child Labor and International Falafel Day. RIP David Hockney. Our community project for today: add a layer to your fragrance to strengthen or emphasize a desired note. Thanks to happy888cat for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

Inspired by ringthing yesterday, I'm in the teensiest layer of Tauer Incense Flash to amp up the incense in Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. I probably would have done better to just use some frankincense eo in unscented lotion.

Reminder: on 6/19, wear a perfume that makes you think of sunshine and happiness. Suggested by SmokeyToes.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll occasionally manage to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Today I combined Heeley Iris de Nuit with Olfactive Studio Violet Shot to amplify the violet note. The result is a green, powdery, metallic violet, slightly reminiscent of Balenciaga Paris.

People generally forget that Old Spice is at its heart a floral — a lot of carnation, but also lavender and jasmine, backed by vanilla. Not what you think of when you think of a classic men’s fragrance! I decided to amplify the florals with a couple of shots of Demeter Jasmine, and it turned out to be a really good choice. I’ll be wearing that combo again, and some day I’ll probably stack Old Spice with 4711 Lavender & Thyme to see if that works as well.

I’ve layered Coromandel with Nombril Immense to give an extra dimension to the patchouli. It feels transgressive to tinker with a Chanel, but I really like this iteration.

    Happy Friday! 💐

Still doing my Cuir Mauresque research and this morning I paired it with Fiele Myrrha. What a wonderful mix! The sweetness of the myrrh plays really well with CM’s strident leather. Now back to the lab!🧐

    Hello and tgif!
Today I am boosting roses to a 12 with Guerlain Rose Amira + LV Les Sable Roses.
Going to the cinema later in the afternoon to watch Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day. It’s a 2 and a half hours long so I am definitely getting popcorn.

I am afriad this one is a boring 5 at best guys and the stars given are mostly because of Emily Blunt’s great performance. The story was paper thin and the build up (if any) led to “Disclosure Day”, which lasted 3 mins before abruptly ending. I love Spielberg and he can tell compelling stories but this ain’t it sadly.
Oh and there is this do-all alien tech wand, I wonder how Spielberg got that idea, oh I know, Dr. Who’s famous Sonic Screwdriver.

I’ve been AWOL this week and really haven’t been doing the CP, unless you count rose soap in the shower + rosewater toner + rose in my moisturizer…but then I didn’t even get around to wearing a rose perfume on top of that. Today I’m wearing Frau Tonis Linde Berlin; when I get back to my house after the cleaners leave, perhaps I’ll add some Tauer Zeta to boost / complicate the linden a bit.

RIP to David Hockney, whose work I’ve loved since high school. I had the chance to catch his retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum back in 2017. His work (Pearblossom Highway, Bigger Splash) was the background on my giant old laptop back in the ’90s.

Yesterday I tried to boost the “juicy orange” category of Azemour by layering it with Perris Monte Carlo’s Mandarino di Sicilia. It failed perhaps because of my application strategy. I’m going to re-try it today and I’ll report back.
I’ve been trying for awhile now to make a decision between the Mandarino and Arancia from PMC and can’t choose. But in some ways, Azemour is the best of the group, and since I have a bottle of that already, maybe I should just stick with that.

Not exactly layering but testing out French Lover by Malle on my left wrist and vintage Fidji on the right. Both are green scents with a lot of galbanum.
I may give French Lover to my older son’s girlfriend. She really liked Amazing Green by CdG in college (her roommate had a bottle and she’d steal spritzes) and while I haven’t smelled the CdG, I feel like the Malle might have some similar notes.
She says she likes ‘salty’ and ‘green’ scents so I’m thinking she might like vetiver perfumes too.
And the other day I wore CdG Jaisalmer and marveled at what a lovely and unusual incense it was.
    Happy Friday everyone!

I’m afraid I’ve been a dud with the CP this week. I’ve mostly worn Abel’s The Apartment, some Rania J Musc Moschus and my favorite warm weather fragrance, Arquiste/Vacation’s Grand Cuvée . My plan for today is Goutal Le Chevrefeuille. None of them amped!

I love David Hockney. A special favorite is his Lilies. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/41/14/76/411476951667818d09bfbddb82da04d7.jpg (hope that link works).

I’ve been in CdG Red:Palisander (or whatever its full name is) all morning, deciding what, if anything, in it needed to be amped. It’s all but perfect on its own, but I did finally decide to add a bit of Juniper Ridge Mountain Wilderness cologne on top, and it’s a hit. I bought Mountain while in the throes of my recent Forest Quest but found it too … uncomplicated? to be the answer to the quest. But now I see it’s wonderful as a layering agent. Now I have two other JR samples that need some experimenting!

The Forest Quest ended with the entirely perfect LVNEA Holy Oak, but Jorum Studio Boswellia Scotia and a few others joined the collection as near-winners. 😁 So the quest, as such, won’t be revisited, but I’m ALWAYS up for trying another forest scent.

Kanuka, as much as I like the perfume I really love the body oil. It also works as a functional product-spritz onto your hands and it’s a weightless hair oil that controls flyaway hair. I used to have Mousson in the oil and loved it-it’s been discontinued for years.

I am boosting roses today too. BBW Rose body wash and lotion with Shalimar Millesime Rose. I really like this one. I know some on here are not fond of the Shalimar MR, but it sure seems to be selling out fast. It has been out of stock at least twice from the Guerlain site. I have been contemplating getting a BUB however, I don’t really need any more rose scents😉

I’ve never been a genius at layering but I think I got it right this time: a dab of Lush’s Lust to amp up the jasmine in Guerlain’s Samsara. The combo cuts the sweetness of the Lust and makes the woods in Samsara a bit more of a purr so you can smell more powder – it almost reminds me of a classic midcentury fragrance like Le Dix but with jasmine instead of violet.

I’m doing the CP inside out, I guess. I don’t particularly enjoy vetiver on its own, but AnnE did show me that they aren’t all horrible. I still would like to tone down some of the earthiness and cheer it up a bit, so I am layering Mazzolari Vetiver with Orange Sanguine. It works! The orange dampens the rootiness of the vetiver and adds a little sparkle.

I just read that David Hockney has died and so am going with a layering option that is very yellow ( in honour of his own sense of colour, and the yellow crocs he wore to the palace). So I’m layering Abel Miami Split with Amberjack Banana Toast. The Abel is more unripe green banana skin whereas Banana Toast is extrovert banana ( it makes CSP Vanille Banane seem pale by comparison). It’s a very cheerful combination.

No boosting for me today, not yet at least. I’m in Sycomore. We’re in the middle of a “mild” heat wave. Not triple digits, but close. So maybe I’ll need a cooling boost later!

In other news, is it terrible that I am so not into World Cup soccer ⚽️? I do “care” but not crazy enough to inconvenience myself with getting tickets (never mind the cost!) and traveling there. Oy! I can’t help it with all the complaints about how much it costs to get to the New York New Jersey stadium!

Frozen forest fruits, pomegranate fruit powder and yogurt smoothie

C&E Wisteria EDP (I also have the lovely EDT but it is better at the height of summer) and tonight vintage Nirmala, a real treat, fruitier than Angel.

I’ve never been more grateful for a spectacularly beautiful morning than I was today. 🙏After a horrible hot/humid week ending in 2 days of severe storms, especially last night’s tornado warnings all over the place, today’s temps in the 70’s, low humidity and blue sun 🌞 skies is the rainbow after the storm. Although there were several communities damaged by the storms (fortunately none by me), there were no severe human injuries or fatalities.🙏

After a stressful week, today made me feel light-hearted, so my choice of SOTD for today’s cp is YR’s original Flower Party (doesn’t that just sound like a fun scent?). Like several of you, I’m celebrating roses today, as they’ve burst into bloom suddenly, seemingly all once, in my garden. What’s especially beautiful is an archway that leads to the backyard that’s totally covered in blooming red roses and inspired me to accent the fruity rose of Flower Party with BBW’s Covered in Roses body products. 🌹

    Happy Friday and Happy Weekend!

I ordered several samples vintage/hard to find lovelies recently, and they were calling my name today. So I am off to grocery shop while wafting Guerlain Parure and feeling regal 👸

Tea today was the last of the Nina’s Paris Je T’aime tin I got from Beauty Habit. Or maybe it was ZGO? Looks like

sotd = Tauer l’air des alpes suisses + Roger et Gallet Lavande Royale

I’ve been excited for this CP all week. I love lavender, especially the herbaceous sharp green scent of the fresh and dried flowers.

The first time I tried l’air des alpes suisses all I got was the smell of sweet licorice allsorts. Not my thing in a perfume, though I do love black licorice candy. That first wearing of alpes suisses was on a cold morning a few weeks ago.

Today the weather is quite sunny, and alpes suisses opened up on my warm skin into a refreshing breeze of beautiful lavender and other herb-y notes. I love it.

And with the Lavande Royale on top, wow wow wow. I’m in lavender heaven. 💜💜💜

It’s about 10 degrees warmer here than it was yesterday. Still nice for early summer, though. Teflon kitty is in her element. No severe weather to be seen except for another Air Quality Alert for ozone.

SOTD = O de Lancome + Demeter Jasmine. I can’t believe how good these two scents smell paired up! Surprisingly, the Demeter might pack more of a punch than O de Lancome does.

Pyramus has mentioned it here before, which is why I tried it. It’s a very pretty, fresh jasmine on the green side. Worth a sniff!

Some of the Demeter perfumes are darn near perfect. Jasmine is one of their best, IMO.

I’m trying to use up my BBW Fresh Cut Lilacs. I layered 3 products and ended up smelling like a spring bouquet. The shower gel and body cream are almost empty. I doubt I will ever get through the body mist. I’ve only ever thunked the mini sprays.

The sprays can last forever! I don’t think I’ve ever finished one. Although they are quite fun, especially if you can get them on sale.

I watched a couple of videos; it was mentioned that to make progress, try leaving a few products in your bathroom to use for 30 days; just to see how much you can use. Maybe good to try for a bedtime ritual?
