In general with these awards, smelling the fragrance won’t help you pick the winners 🙂

Yeah I thought so too. Isn’t it just about advertising.

Usually, they reward the fragrances that have done well, and that presented a good “total package” in terms of the advertising, packaging & whatnot.

Good thing they don’t take fragrance ad campaigns into account, because La Prarie’s would surely creep out the judges no matter what they smell like. And I’m surprised to see NR’s Essence on the list. I haven’t tried it, but that’s because it just sounded so-so and I wasn’t moved to do so. Now TF’s Grey Vetiver sounded nice…

I think the NR Essence is selling very well — a better predictor of award-winning status than how it smells.

I’m a bit stunned to see Bois 1920 up against Lola and Eau Mega in the Exclusive category. They don’t even seem to be on the same planet! Anyway, Lola is so ubiquitous here, it’s hard to see what classification of ‘exclusive’ could possibly encompass those two. In London, Bois 1920 is sold in about three doors, and Lola’s available in 3000!

Bois 1920 has been in this category in the Duftstars before, so assuming they have an active German distributor? Don’t know the background. And quite sure that in some of the various Fragrance Foundation awards this year, we’ll see MJ Lola in the prestige category. I guess in Germany it is not so widely distributed (?) I don’t know their criteria, but the old US criteria for exclusive was simply anything under 250 stores…a pretty wide category, yes, and arguably not meaningful.

(Adding — and it might explain why the US added a third category last year for under 50 doors)

I haven’t! So far as I know, it isn’t in the US yet.
