Happy Reeking Havoc Friday! Our community project for today: in honor of Holly (who is frequently reeking havoc), wear as many perfume samples at once as you can stand. Thanks to FearsMice for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I am only wearing 3 so I am sure I won't win this challenge, but I do reek. I'm wearing Jean Paul Gaultier Le Mâle, Ma Dame and Scandal. I was going to put on Classique too, but as it is I can hardly stand myself.
Reminder: 10/27 will be Guessing Game Friday. Describe your perfume to us, OR, give your perfume the name it ought to have had, and we'll see if we can guess what it is.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: shown is one of the 12 Jean Paul Gaultier €10 limited edition coins issued by Monnaie de Paris this year.
On right inner wrist: “Kitchen Sink”- A while ago I had made four separate e.o. perfume blends from sample vials and bottles from Eden featuring four prominent notes- Osmanthus, Immortelle, Tuberose and Fir Balsam. I impulsively dumped them all into one vat, added some of my homemade vanilla bean oil and topped it off with orange essence e.o. Given that each separate blend contained approximately 10+ different oils with one having an amber blend that was comprised of 30+ oils I am guessing Kitchen Sink has about 70 e.o.s in it.
On left inner wrist: “Vanilla Fiend”. Younger CM8 combined all samples that either had the word vanilla in them or smelled vanilla-ish to her. 30 or so samples in a 1oz bottle that she topped off with dark patchouli and lavender absolute (two other notes she loves)
The middle child always marches to the beat of her own drum.
On top of right hand: Siano topped off with Greylocke topped off with Hanami topped off with Olmsted & Vaux. I have come to the conclusion that Phlurs are meant to be layered as this smells so good.
On top of left hand the pineapple goodness of Midnight Fleur. Younger CM8 has the original vintage bottle from 2012 and it has aged beautifully. Thanks to jalapeno for the suggestion of wearing it in cooler weather.
Happy (f) reeking Friday!!!!
I bow in awe…
Honestly, I applied to so lightly to my scent eating skin that I am not even near the reeking stage 🙂
Amazing! 😀
thanks 🙂
Wow.
We’re not worthy. 🙂
LOL!
Hail to CM8!!!! (drops the mic)
Send samples of CMB8 creations to everyone 😉 . Fascinating!
hajusuuri and Holly have the original four separate perfume oils before I combined them…you can hit them up for samples/testings if/ when you see them 🙂
and younger CM8 loves her Vanilla Fiend so much that I was lucky enough for her to allow me one spray this morning !
I think you win!
🙂
I knew that CM8 would rise to the challenge! Go gal go!
I am paying tribute to my fellow NSTer, Holly….
!!!!!!!!
🙂
Wanted to respond to your comment from yesterday…i don’t think it was L”heure Bleue (but I could see why you would think so)…it was a bit more powdery…it was probably some obscure fragrance that was d/c a long time ago!
Stinky! Wow, this is kind of scary.
Honestly, it isn’t as bad as it sounds…I applied only one spray to each part of my body and only one tiny drop of the oil…it is several hours later and I can barely detect a thing.
actually that is not true…the Phlurs are one spray of each so that is 4 sprays…but they really do blend nicely together…it is/was a greenish citrus vibe..i tested it last night before applying it this morning (in case it was disastrous) and the drydown on my robe this morning was gorgeous.
Nose of steel!
Or just “wonky” nose!
Dang…. and awesome!
you win! First comment too, where done here 🙂
Now I feel justified not even to try to “beat” you: somebody has to maintain a balance in the Universe. I wonder though: would going commando (scent-wise) be enough, or should I put on some Fabreze? 😉
you win!
Wow!
You win!
Crikey. …But, seriously, how did it all smell mingled together?
different parts of the body…the blend of oils was on my wrist and it smelled like a floral citrus with some woods in the base…the Vanilla Fiend was on the other wrist and it smells amazing…like a deep dry vanilla…I was shocked that it came out as good as it did (talk about serendipity) and I really wanted to steal that bottle from her but she said NO. The blend of Phlur that was on top of one hand was also great…i am at home now and can still smell it on my bathrobe from last night’s experiment…a green citrus vetiver blend…and Midnight Fleur was on the top of my other hand…I applied all sparingly so I literally had to shove my nose onto body part to smell….and on my scent eating skin by the time I got to work several hours later most was gone.
Reekspect!
Joining the fray today, with MFK Oud and Arielle Shoshana on my wrists, and Byredo’s Rose of No Man’s Land and Reminiscence Patchouli on my ankles.
Happy Friday, everyone!
Bet they are all playing together nicely! I love this idea of patchouli wafting up from down below 🙂
I don’t think one needs more than three Zoologist scents to reek, hence Civet, Bat, and Panda. Call me a reekin’ fool. And no, I needn’t appear in public today.
My eyes are watering reading this! HA HA HA HA 🙂
😉
Stay home! 🙂
I think any ONE of those would be enough to reek!
Sables, Songes and Amber Fetiche
That sounds like it could work (?)
Work in what sense? Maybe I’m misconstruing reek.
LOL! I mean, it sounds like it might actually smell reasonably good if rather loud? My mix did not smell reasonably good 🙂
you are officially an AG gal! smelling good, ltsg!
Very nice! How is this mix working for you?
Sounds nice! Sables and Ambre Fetiche seem like a natural pair.
AG cocktail – lovely!
Its working!!!
Ooh, classy reeking! ????
Oh…..
Santal Majuscule traces on my hair from yesterday….
Chergui on my coats collar from the day before yesterday….
And Organza Indecence all over me neck…. It is wonderful. I love it! Best blind buy in years!
The vanilla is all I wanted Shalimar to be.
Robin,
Thank you for your reviews!
This fragrance is the best thing I smelled in years.
I can’t beleive Givenchy discontinued it…. Are they mad?
But they are making it again! Not all that easy to find, and it isn’t in the pretty bottle, but they are making it. Don’t know for how long, but as of this moment they’re still shown on the Givenchy website.
https://nstperfume.com/2007/08/05/givenchy-les-parfums-mythiques-new-fragrances/
So glad you love it!
OI really is good, isn’t it?
Leather Oud and Encre Noire A L’Extreme. May add Oud Ispahan. 🙂
The first two might be enough, LOL…
I’m reeking in chocolate today. On my arms I’m wearing Smell Bent Winter Vixen and Lady Dreidel. On my neck is Dame Chocolate Man, and on my chest is AG Eau de Charlotte. I should have also used Missoni Missoni, but I couldn’t find a spot for it.
Yummy. Let us know if it satisfies chocolate craving.
Great idea! Now this is a mix I could get behind.
Reeking havoc in iris today: On my left upper arm Chanel No.19 EdT; on my left forearm Chanel 28 la Pausa EdT; on my right upper arm AG Heure Exquise EdP; on my right forearm Heeley Iris de Nuit; on my neck SL Iris Silver Mist; on my blouse Carner Barcelona D600.
Have a wonderful Friday everyone!
Very nice!
🙂
You smell sensational.
Thank you!
now that is good….you must smell amazing!
It is a nice combination. I only had one spritz of each not to overwhelm my co-workers and myself. Soft, beautiful and long lasting so far.
Beautiful.
Thank you! 🙂
Well-chosen!
Thanks!
You’re coming with me, perfumelover67!
I will be there soon 🙂
Regretting I did not spray on Prada Infusion d’ Iris Absolue. I completely forgot about it. I will remedy that when I get home later!
Good idea [probably not good idea but what the heck]
😀 😀
Perfect.. iris heaven! which ones do u like best?
Very difficult to choose because they are all favorite irises. But 28 La Pausa has always been an absolute love and winner for me. So far I have not found an iris like it.
Do you know Purple Rain from Prada?
I have not tried it yet, but I already ordered a sample. Waiting impatiently for its arrival next week. What do you think of Purple Rain?
Check my review;)
I just finished reading your review of Purple Rain. It sounds amazing. Even before getting my sample I know I am already in trouble!
You smell Amazing!
Thank you, lillyjo!
Impressive!
🙂
That’s a lot of iris!
Am I an iris fan? 😀 😀
I imagine you smell like that first moment one walks in Neiman Marcus’ fragrance dept, before everything gets confused in the nose. GORGEOUS!
Thanks!
I’m reeking in iris today too, although you have me beat!
You smell wonderful for sure!
Wow, well done! I bet that smells lovely.
It does 🙂
**applause**. That sounds amazing! One of my favorite notes:smile:
Iris is my favorite followed by rose. I never get tired of them! 🙂
I’m working today, so can’t go too too crazy with the community project, but I did end up wearing 4 different scents, all with resinous or amber notes. I started with a base of House of Matriarch Devotion + Bastide Ambre Maquis + incense body powder, and topped it off with a little Eau des Merveilles.
I was thinking how hard this would be if you’re at work! You’ve done spectacularly.
ooooh, wow, that sounds lovely. I’m imagining Eau des Merveilles is like the bow on top, wrapping everything up in a beautiful package.
Not piling up scents since I am at work, but still wreaking havoc by wearing FM Superstitious- while wearing a hoodie and jeans since it’s Casual Friday, ha!
To me Superstitious is grand and sumptuous yet modern, and I can’t get enough of it. I regret purchasing a 10ml spray- I should have gone for a bigger bottle. Usually the regret is in the other direction 🙂
So great that you can figure out how to wear Superstitious to work.
Not a reeking havoc, but I’m going to engage myself in a package havoc as I have 5 perfume deliveries waiting for me to be unpacked today.
Sotd is Ineke Idyllwild.
How do you like it?
I absolutely adore it. Think I will bump it on my ‘to review’ list and write about it next week.
I love the anticipation of having perfume waiting to be unboxed! This feeling doesn’t last long for me, as I tend to immediately rip them open.
It’s a magic moment that quickly disappears. But the satisfaction is great.
Yay! Enjoy your new perfumes!!!
It’s all samples or swap decants
No havoc here as I’m only wearing one scent, but it’s a blend of ingredients that sound incongruent but work together beautifully – Naomi Goodsir Or du Serail. Made Mr. G say “oh my”. 🙂
You smell great, I love Or du Sérail.
you smell wonderful!
I love when my Mr. Hubs compliments…..that’s the best!
Wearing every sample I got from a split! Including:
Cuir Ottoman
Teo Cabanel Meloe
La Fin du Monde
Violette Fumee
Parfum Berdoues Oud al Sahraa
And one that says Antidote with the house name worn off.
I’m having fun (and think the CO is winning).
Wow! (and nice split)
I love Cuir Ottoman!
No havoc for me yet, as I’m just wearing a sample of Aedes Grenadille d’Afrique. Might add something else later!
Reek Havoc!
Now y’all know I might have an unfair advantage here so I’m gonna sit back and enjoy reading what you’ve come up with.
Are you ready to take a walk on the wild side?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKOQapYcyhE
thanks for inspiring us to reek havoc!
and I love Lou Reed….in another lifetime and many many many moons ago I was a member of a punk rock ballet troupe and we danced to quite a few of his songs…I actually got to perform at CBGBs before they closed. He is a great artist!
You’re today’s master of a ceremony
We can name our scents Holly Muse, if anyone asks what smells so good. Enjoy a relaxing day.
Thanks, Fears Mice, for this project suggestion. It’s like a bag of post Trick or Treat Halloween candy for olfactory receptors!
Reeking in:
Cuir de Lancôme
Cuir Venenum
Cuir de Gardenia
Cuir Ottoman
Cuir Beluga
Happy Friday!
OOO! leathery goodness 🙂
Oh my god! Leather city. You need that rawhide one from Tauer…? Lonestar Memories to finish it off!!
Wow! Love your themed approach.
Thank you.
Love the theme! Great idea. 🙂
Nice leathers. Gorgeous!
Well done! these just keep getting better as I scroll down
ooooh…..nice!!!
Ahhh, leather scents—what an excellent choice for reeking!
Still sick and have to take also sick doggie to the vet (I think we both have kennel cough LOL) so just a bit of Felanilla for me today.
Aww. I hope both of you sickies feel better soon!
I hope you both feel better soon. Take care!
get some rest and take care of yourself. hope the pup gets some good meds and feels better soon too! 🙂
Get-well-soon wishes to you both!
Get well soon! My Indochine is waiting in the wings to be worn once the weather is back to being cooler.
In #confessyourunpopularopinion, I have to say that I hate perfume samples. I am a grown woman, not a child. I don’t need freebies in plastic vials like some cheap concert giveaway. And I’m certainly not going to pay 10 dollars just to try some fragrance. I either buy the bottle or pass. I have also never bought a perfume bottle from a sample. So, I must sadly miss out on these challenges, but instead, adore my full-size collection on my vanity.
There is nothing at all wrong with confessing unpopular opinions, but perhaps you could have found a way to say that you disliked samples without implying that the rest of us were children? Just a thought.
Anyway, to each his own! The majority of my bottles were purchased after trying a sample.
Yes, apologies for any offense. I was just expressing my frustration with this entire blog and should have chosen my words more carefully. It just seems to have more and more name dropping as free advertisements rather than essays, articles, and meditations on perfumes. It is a fun blog, no doubt, just not for me. Forgive my interloping.
Personally every time I sample first before jumping in to the cost of a full bottle, I congratulate myself on my maturity! 🙂
Me too! I need to try something fully before I buy. I’m not a risk taker, I just can’t blind buy, no matter how much I think I’d like something. The decant sites are a godsend for someone like me in a city and country with limited access. I wouldn’t have a fraction of my FBs without samples.
What perfumes have you collected and like to wear?
Are you reeking havoc with your full size bottles? I’m definitely one that LOVES a good sample, but full bottles always trump a sample! 🙂
I’m inclined to agree with you. Today I am not reeking but smelling gorgeous in three moderate sprays from my newly purchased bottle of Areej le Doré Inverno Russo.
FB and samples get equal footing. The projects generate a lot of good discussion IMHO. One can choose to participate or not and some actually make it a weeklong project!
Am having a stressful day and decided to eschew today’s challenge. Seeking comfort in Esprit d’Oscar.
Such a pretty perfume- I can see how it would be comforting.
that is a perfect scent for comfort…hope the day improves.
I wore Esprit d’Oscar last week to carry me through in lovely fashion a very LOOOONNNNGGG day at work. Good choice. It is just so pretty and plushy.
You smell lovely. I am off to meditate for a little bit; going to send you some maitri (thoughts of benevolence and kindness).
Hope the day gets better!
You smell beautiful. I hope your day improves soon!
I am unable to wreck any havoc today b/c I had to take my daughter to the Dr for ear infection. But I’ll try my best tomorrow at home when I am doing chores. I need to open up my old “scent library” of classic discontinued scents and see which ones are still good anyway. I am hoping to put on a major dose of Diorella with god only knows what. But today SOTD is a very light application of Caron Parfum Sacre edp. Cheers!
Hope your daughter gets some relief soon. Ear infections can be so painful.
Ditto — hate ear infections.
Ugh. I was born in NYC and had ear infections ALL THE TIME (to the point where I needed multiple ear surgeries) until the age of five, when we moved out of NY and my infections miraculously disappeared. I have no recollection of any of this, but I’m told it was a nightmare for my parents.
I hope your little one is feeling better soon 🙂 you smell wonderful
Hope your daughter feels better FAST! Ear infections are the WORST!
Love some of these choices of multiple scents! Not saying I’d like to be near you, but definitely impressed.
Working from home today so can’t go too crazy with The Nose around. I started in 31 Rue Cambon and then also dabbed on some Orchidée Vanille. Not a bad mix, not too wild either. Vanille softens the oakmoss.
That does sound nice! Enjoy the day at home.
It goes without saying that the office Perfume Grinch would NEVER allow for extra havoc! So I must forgo this challenge…..LOL
I’m going the opposite route, with an ever so light spray of Eliz Arden Green Tea Nectarine Blossom. It’s barely detectable! 🙂
Loving the posts today! I can smell y’all from here!
You should go bananas and reek away after you get off work.????
Thou hast inspired me! I’m doing Friday night chores (laundry, cleaning bathroom) in Clinique Aromatics in Black. Maybe I’ll add Aromatics in White in a few. Then I’ll shower with Lord of Misrule, and go from there. Controlled havoc! 🙂
Further inspired while cleaning the bathroom….I have a GENEROUS dose of Hubby’s L’Occitane Eau de Baux too. WOWZERS! I smell amazing right now! LOL
Yay! I’m glad you got to participate. And well done.
“Controlled havoc” is a bit of an oxymoron, isn’t it?????
I am truly reeking havoc today. I’m wearing three unidentified samples/decants. You know, the ones where the label fell off or the ink on the label smeared and you have NO idea what’s in that glass tube.
I smell…….interesting.
Those are usually the ones I fall in love with.
how totally renegade, I love it
Oh my! I usually end up throwing those away.
99% sure that one of them is the Guerlain Terracotta decant that I spent all summer looking for, so I’m calling this a win! 🙂
Oh, then that is a win!
I have a couple of those-maybe 3- and every time I pick one up and smell it I can’t remember what it is until it hits me like 30 min later. It’s the same routine EVERY time. Kind of fun trying to figure out what they are-cheap amusement, lol.
That is brave. I salute you!
Trying to play along, I left the house wearing 4 full spritzes of Joop! Homme. The way people wheezed, coughed and promptly moved out of my way at the supermarket, I guess it created the desired effect. This stuff is nuclear.
that’s funny! I wore Joop for Women and my boyfriend at the time had the matching Joop for men…I don’t remember either of them being nuclear…but then again it was the late 80s so the powerhouses were more tolerated and what we were used to.
Had to look up the male and female version on fragrantica to refresh my memory…Homme is a spicy, balsamic vanilla (one commenter said more than one spray will give you diabetes!) and Femme is a powdery vanilla amber…I loved them both and considered both to be unisex….and they are both selling for dirt cheap online.
Hahaha! I’ll remember that when I want a subway car to myself.
this made me laugh! I’ve never smelled Joop! but what a name, makes me smile.
…it was named for the designer, German-born Wolfgang Joop. It’s loud and laaaaaaasts for days!
They are both gorgeous (male and female version) and well worth sniffing …and they sell for dirt cheap…
😀 😀
My husband wears Joop and it smells great on him, but he needs to apply at least 30 minutes before going out as the initial blast is potent.
Ok, tell me your secret. My hubby doesn’t wear any fragrance at all for the most part. But of course, then there’s me..
How did you get him to try it?
He was already wearing it when I met him. 🙂
Long comment, sorry.
This is an interesting but difficult project for me. Testing several fragrances at once is not something I normally do (I could layer several fragrances I know, but in my opinion it’s not the same thing). So I modified the project a little to make it easier for me. Today I am using the scents I tried once but wanted to re-test later (so I know them at least a little). I am not testing the scents I hated first time I tried them. I am not putting them all at once – I’m going to add one every 15-20 minutes or so (or when I have time). So here we go.
1 – Atelier Cologne Cedrat Enivrant, 15:16
Tried it in May, and my impressions are the same. The start is lovely – fresh and juicy (great lime and mint!). In a couple of minutes it turns watery and pale on my skin. Oakland Fresca aptly compared such fragrances with bubble gum.
2 – Shiseido Energizing Fragrance, 15:42
Cedrat Enivrant put me in the mood for more fresh scents. I tried Energizing in August and was not sure how I felt about it. And I am still unsure. Pros: it’s a fresh and spicy lily of the valley and it really is energizing. Cons: it lacks something that would keep me interested. It’s a bit too ‘functional’ and clean.
3 – Miller Harris Figue Amere, 16:00.
Tried in September. It’s a pretty good figue scent. Fruity and delicious at the beginning then turns greener and woodier and somehow becomes less interesting. I do not think I need it, but it’s still nice.
4 – Annick Goutal, Nuit Etoile, 16:32.
Tried it first in April and described it then as “watery citrusy/woody fragrance”. Today I notice more coniferous woods than citrus notes. There is something fresh and something sweet here too. The problem is this fragrance is too weak (at least on my skin).
***
Have a lot stuff to do, so I am adding two more and stop at that.
5 and 6, at 17:57 – La Perla Parfum Prive and Laboratorio Olfattivo Kashnoir. The first one is very old-school – makeup floral notes and honey. The second one is a delicious sweet woody fragrance.
That’s it – six. I could add more, but I just do not have time. It was fun!
Organized havoc! Awesome!! 🙂
Thank you!
Yeah, I thought that just because I like to test stuff one at a time it does not mean I cannot participate.
I can reek havoc my way! 😀
Did you try the edt or edp of Nuit Étoilée? For me the edp is far superior.
EDP. It’s probably just not my kind of scent. Or I am anosmic to something in it. Three and a half hours later I cannot smell it at all, even when I sniff the exact spot on my arm where I sprayed it. (Maybe because Kashnoir took over, or maybe because not many fragrances last on my skin longer than 3-4 hours.)
Cool way to approach the project! It’s like a perfume playlist.
Oh I have never thought about it that way! Yes, it is actually. 🙂
I woke up feeling vaguely like I’m coming down with something ???? Hoping it’s just a revved up immune system from the flu shot I got on Tuesday.
I had an odd craving for SL Feminite du Bois, which I like but am rarely in the mood to wear, so wore a spritz of that. And I tried to be a sport and play along so I ran a bit of Aftelier Ancient Resins oil through my hair. Not quite havoc, or even reeking, but I like how I smell!
I hope your immune system settles down!
Me too!!
feel better! you smell great.
Thank you!
I hope you feel better. I had my flu shot on Monday and for the first time in many years I got very dizzy few minutes later and for 2 days I was very weak and tired with a sore throat and mild coughing. I am feeling much better but not 100%. I never had that reaction before.
SL Feminite du Bois is one of my fall favorites. You smell great!
Oof. That would put me off from getting one, but I have to for work. Glad you’re feeling better, though! I’ve never really had a reaction that I remember but I’d prefer it be that than an actual infection.
Hope you recover asap! This is why I am afraid to get flu shots.
Thanks! Whatever it is, it’s very mild, like the few days before you get a full blown thing. Glad it’s Friday!
I’ve been hearing of more reactions to the vaccine this year. People who have been fine got sick. I hope you recover quickly.
I guess it varies from year to year. Different strains? Different # of prevalent strains? Not sure. But thank you!
Most likely a good immune response…which is good longterm, but yuck today! Feel better….
Hope so. They use the really nice sub-q tiny needle where I work so at least that part was a breeze.
Hope you feel better and stay well!
No havoc for me – I don’t have the attention span! Just some swipes of Like This. It will be fall around me, even when it hits 80 later today.
Yum, you smell great 🙂
I wore Like This yesterday, and it lasted 12+ hours. Soooooo nice. Could still smell it on my jacket this morning. You smell cozy and snuggly….
I’m doing sort of a duel to the death thing today, with Sung on my left arm and Aromatics Elixir on my right. It’s actually not a bad combo, but Sung is dominating AE hands down.
My best friend used to douse herself in Sung in the early nineties. You could smell her for miles, but it was so good.
Wow. I haven’t tried Sung, but if something can dominate AE, it must be ENORMOUS.
😀
Something similar happened to me yesterday. I wore three scents – White Patchouli, Cuir de Lancome and Private Collection (EL) – and White Patchouli fought Cuir de Lancome for domination (I think WP won, but Lancome resisted bravely). In the meantime Private Collection sat close to my skin and disapproved the other two very much. I am pretty sure I heard PC whisper things like “so undignified” and “unladylike”.
Powerful combo!!!
I have not smelled Sung and now I’d be afraid to 😉
Actually after I posted this, I started smelling the AE a bit more, so it’s been a more even fight since then. She’s holding her own, though to be fair I think the version of AE I’m wearing is a more recent formulation, and it’s not as crazy powerful as the older version was. In this case, that actually makes it easier to wear.
Gosh I must have been so immuned to those fragrances in the 80s because I had Sung and don’t remember it being so strong…wonder what my reaction would be if I smelled it now 🙂
and the original AE was really potent…I had the small bottle in the late 70s and remember only being able to wear one drop on each wrist (the only other perfume I have ever encountered where I had to limit myself was Salome)
Gosh. Haven’t smelled Sung in many years. My sister used to wear that one. I remember liking it at the time. I like your old-school face off.
Perfume Deathmatch!
Well said! I think AE would win that match. I love both for different reasons.
Not reeking over here, just faint wisps of Fellanila from yesterday, because yes, I’m wearing the same base layer.
In Walmart getting an oil change and I fit right in ????
Twins! We smell delicious.
Wasn’t feeling the wreaking havoc thing today, so I’m continuing my Amouage week. Today it’s Memoir Woman. I a currently filling up my STC basket because of 15% off Amouage and a few other lines.
If you layer the drydown of MKK and apply vintage Bal, you get something fabulous. Layer vintage Miss Dior with Epic Woman, you get something akin to Ubar. I found those out by accident.
House twin! You smell great!
Had to teach some preschool music this morning, so no reeking, just a little LPRN Black Perfecto thanks to Hajusuuri’s donation swap! When I get home I think I’ll dig out all of my Dame Soliflores and try them all at once. That will surely reek, they are usually pretty strong!
Taking baby steps toward reekage, by layering two scents and spraying them more than once. I’m conservative when it comes to sillage; I usually apply a maximum of two sprays (one on the decolletage and another on the wrist). Today, I’m experimenting with Messe de Minuit and Jaisalmer – I’m thinking that the Jaisalmer might provide a little dryness to balance the Minuit’s dank nature.
That sounds like a nice combo!
At work, reeking a bit of nostalgia today. Inspired by Tiffanie yesterday, wearing Oscar de la Renta all over, with White Diamonds on my wrist. Listening to Stevie Nicks on my break. Love her!
Love it all. Fantastic choices!
+1 for Oscar
+1 for White Diamonds
Love them both, together they must be marvelous.
+1 for all of the above, and for listening to Stevie Nicks. I wonder if she reeked havoc in her day…
Good morningish, NST! After all the PSL talk over the past couple days, we went down to the Starbucks downstairs (literally downstairs from some of the units in our apartment complex–yup, it’s dangerous, but luckily, my mind usually still thinks I’m a poor grad student who can’t afford daily Starbucks) and got ourselves some PSLs! A bit too sweet, of course, and really not that great, but man, it’s good to be back in the US for autumn 🙂
Not reeking much havoc, sadly, because the boyfriend is on edge with even delicate levels of perfume, and reeking havoc just seemed cruel on a day when we were having a PSL morning date to make up for hardly seeing each other all week. However, I smell exquisite in Olfactive Studio Lumiere Blanche, which seamlessly integrates into and enlivens the cloudy morning. It RAINED last night down where I am, so I’m hoping there was some precipitation up near Napa?? Maaaaybe??
Oh, good for you — I still have not had one.
You can always ask for just one pump of the PSL syrup.
I had to work, so no reeking havoc for me. I am not the kind of person who wants to scare co-workers away 😉
After a few warm and sunny days, autumn has finally arrived with a bit of a vengeance. Temperatures have dropped and its been raining all night and almost all day. I am soaked from a 15 minutes walk. Bleh.
I started out in Incense Royale (sultan pasha attars) this morning and after work I stopped by our local department store for a few sprays of Iris Celadon (encouraged by Triestobeclassy and Clarissa in yesterday’s comments).
Its lovely! In first 10 minutes its a bit sharp, but soon everything melts down to a smooth velvety chocolaty iris – with patchouli.
Oh all the Irises that Armani has done are very interesting. I found this person selling in Bonanza (no affiliation) so a whole bunch of Armani irises are on the way to me 🙂
At the mo, I’m reeking of;
Scandal
LVEB
24 Faubourg
Obsession
Jaipur homme & femme
And unnamed sample, probably Elie Saab original.
I don’t find me ‘disturbing’ but then again I’m home alone ????
WOAH!
Oh Gosh! That is a scary reeking! 😀
OMG… mushroom cloud. Enjoy!
Yowzers! The sillage is almost visible! 🙂
Ooo-eee, that’s impressive!
I can smell you from here!
I am laughing at some of these combinations! Very creative! My effort today sounds rather minimal by comparison, but I decided to load up on the Serges and so I’ve layered all of these: Ambre Sultan, Rousse, Louve, Bois de Vanille, and Datura Noir. Some sprays up and down both arms and on my neck. Perhaps not surprisingly, they have blended fairly well, and I now smell fine, mostly spicy and sweet. Sugar and spice and everything nice, ha ha ha. I have some Arabie, too, maybe I should add that to the mix.
Sugar, spice & everything nice might be a fun Friday project…
Smelling spicy and great!
Your combo sounds amazing and I can definitely see how it would work.
Serge Smörgåsbord! ????
Great choices. That could be another project! Wear as many fragrances from one ‘house’ that represents you.
Splurge Lutens
Feeling exquisitely elegant in Chanel 22. I will savor what’s left of my sample.
Lovely!
Gorgeous!
Finished off a sample of Cuir Cannage–it had two little spritzes left. Then for the community project I went as far as I felt I could since I’m at the office today. I added one spray of Salome and one of Musc Ravageur.
oh and also some Tom Ford Oud Wood beard oil in my hair.
Great idea! I should start sniffing beard oils. They sell a lot of those men’s artisanal grooming products in my neighborhood because, Brooklyn.
Sounds great, I like the combo!
I hope you have a string of pearls to go with that combination. Very classy.
Oh, I bet that smells fantastic!
I have a huge box of BPAL samples a friend gave me so I went with a Halloween reeking theme and am testing Black Phoenix, Dragon’s Heart, Hellfire and The Deep Ones.
Black Phoenix started out boring but is now doing a mushroomy-earthy thing I like; Hellfire is the same but more vanilla. Dragon’s heart is kind of a wimpier Boucheron? And The Deep Ones mostly smells like somewhere on the Ivory-Dove soap continuum but with a more vegetal drydown.
Overall I think I actually smell pretty good but I am definitely confusing people in meetings by smelling various parts of my arms…
How fun! People who are into those goth-y oils(BPAL, Arcana etc) seem to have their own club. I’m going to a jack-o-lantern festival tonight. These would be perfect.
Forgot about the challenge at perfume time. Pre-shower I tested drops of ELDO’s Eau de Protection on one hand, and Fin du Monde on the other.
Eau de Protection smelled grape-fruity and spicy to me, so after shower I layered Hermes Jour d’hermes parfum and SJP Stash. I think they work well together!
Fin du Monde smelled so pretty to me, I looked up the notes and can’t believe there are no delicate flowers in there – laughing at the popcorn and gunpowder notes, might have to get both these ELDO’s love them so far.
Those might be my two favorite ELDOs, too! Hey, why isn’t anyone splitting those?
Don’t know! I would be up for it – do people do splits casually outside of the split meets?
I did a few earlier this summer!
Currently wearing Laura Mercier Minuit Enchanté Eau de Parfum – pretty, with spices, woods, vanilla, resins and incense. Happy Friday!
Mmm, that sounds nice, I will try it next time I have a chance.
That’s a great one!
I thought I would try for an element of sophisicated havoc elegance …like wearing all the Hermes Jardin scents but my natural inclination towards random excess has got the better of me and I’ve ended up in a kind of orange vanilla fug
Vanillary as the base
Sun
Furze
Fleurs d’oranger
Orchidee Vanille
Whisky and Cardamon
Coco ( that was perhaps unneccessary and greedy )
It’s made the dogs sneeze so I must have done something right.
The hills around the house are yellow as the gorse is in full bloom so everywhere smells of furze…very vanilla coconutty. On my walk yesterday I saw a pair of native tomtits. The male is coloured like a panda bear and the size of a robin…what a thrill to see one near the city. I spent my walk daydreaming, trying to define what ‘beauty’ is and came up with ‘ something that provokes a sense of wonder’ which covers everything from perfume to tomtits
Wow, who is the Whisky & Cardamom by? That sounds like a wonderful combination.
Jo malone. It’s okay but not terribly exciting.
I love and miss the smell of Gorse!!Furze is a good reminder of time spent overseas!x
I have to say, I find the idea of random excess rather appealing.
Must go look up pictures of tomtits now. My only recent wildlife encounter was observing a diamondback that had expired after getting itself stuck trying to get through some wire and into the backyard. ????
I saw an amazing bird show just yesterday, here in the middle of the city…a falcon (of what type I don’t know) swooped in out of nowhere chasing a tiny little bird and caught it mid-air. A bunch of us stared on as it plucked the poor little fella on a branch. I wish I was more educated about such things but it was the most amazing thing I’ve seen in ages!
Wow! That poor baby bird.
I must say that one of the most crazy things I’ve witnessed is an Egret walking on the hedges in Kehei, Maui and gobbled up a salamander in front of us while waiting for our breakfast. I guess we weren’t the only ones hungry.
Your combo and the gorse sound lovely!
I have a few things on right now.
Miss Dior Orignal is still going strong from last night. It must be in my hair.
This morning I put Jo Malone Orris & Sandalwood on, and layered it with JM White Jasmine & Mint.
Twins in the Orris and Sandalwood!
I love layering the Jo Malones.
Morning, all. I’m not reeking, or even smelling, of anything yet, but I’m in AWE of all of you. Talk about ‘sock it to the world’! All power to perfumistas everywhere, say I.
This is the start of a long weekend–Labour Day is Monday. Teaching has finished for the year and the rhythms of my days will be different. Less hectic, maybe. I’m looking forward to a chance to gather my scattered wits, and today’s scent will help me do that. While I’ve been dashing off these words, Bel Respiro entered my mind and settled there, all soft and contemplative. Bel Respiro speaks to me of late dawn in a tumbling, exuberant garden, captured in a bottle. Yes, that’s what I want. Sorry, Robin and NST-ites, that I’m not joining in today, but I have a different need.
Be well, all my fantastically fragrant compatriots down here in the rabbit hole.
Hey, never a need to apologize for wearing the scent you need!
I’m wearing Memo Irish Leather at work, but I will add spritzes of Italian, Russian and African leather when I get home so I will reek of a well travelled leather passport case or maybe a world traveler’s leather valise.
I love that idea!
I love leathers, so those are on my list to try! Which one do you like best?
Personally, I like Italian and Russian, in that order, but I think the other two are more popular.
As Waterdragon just said, it’s a long weekend here – yay! I’m perfumeless as yet, befire breakfast and shower, but am planning to do some perfume sniffing this afternoon, which will likely involve spraying three or four different things. I’m still exploring the Trudon line, I like Olim the best, they are all quite nice, but none of them seem FB worthy for me.
I started off hating Olim and then it grew on me!
I don’t need any of the full bottles either but would like to have the coffret. Probably not going to spend the money though.
Well I actively tried NOT to reek havoc today since it’s a work day, but I still managed to warrant a comment from my co-worker. I’m wearing Tokyomilk Honey and the Moon because I thought something soft, fairly close to the body, and honey scented should be fine. But as soon as she came in, she asked if I was eating something different and that she smelled cigars. Sigh…I didn’t recall that there is a tobacco aspect to this perfume, and it projects more than I thought.
Another one to add to the “do not wear to work” list.
Oops.
How much do I enjoy the Friday challenges and love the NST community? So much I’ll gladly take one for the team and reek havoc despite having a tenacious sinus headache.
Now, I could’ve gone for quantity and used my Dame samples, but I thought, “Eff it, if this could end up hurting, I’m gonna go down in a blaze of glory!” So I broke out the big guns and went with my Amouage samples: I’ve got Beloved on one arm, Gold on the other, and Honour on my ankles. Boom.
Enjoy your personal perfume clouds, everyone, and have a fantastic weekend!
That’s the way to reek havoc alright!!????????????????
???????????????? Thanks!
Ah, the Empress of Havoc has been crowned
Oh my gosh. I want to be called that from now on, and I need an eponymous bespoke perfume blend to match!
You’re making me feel like we should all have to make monstrous compound names… Beloved Gold Honour sounds ok, and or like something a celebrity would name their child. Mine, I guess, would be Deep Hell Phoenix Heart. Heck there’s probably a kid named that somewhere too.
Totally!
“Deep Hell Phoenix Heart!” Well, I don’t know about a kid, but there’s already a school that would answer to that: ASU.???? (Oh, yes I did!????)
???? ohhhh Creosote that is gooood!!!! I seriously can’t stop laughing!!
Impressive! You smell fancy (as my goddaughter would say)!
Thanks! Love that—it’s something I would say, too!
You’re a true perfume martyr!
????
Glad to see you all reeking HAVOC today!Let the fun continue despite the minor glitch there in the middle of comments….LOL.
I was at work so I had to play safe, but I did slather on Chanel No.5 body lotion, followed by Korres Vanilla Freesia Lychee edp.Classy but fruitcake.Like my personality.Lol!You all smell fabulously horrendous!Happy Weekend!!!
X
Haha! That was cute ????
I think classy but fruitcake probably describes a lot of us. In a good way, of course:)
Ha!
I’d prefer to think I smell horrendously fabulous rather than fabulously horrendous! ????
So impressed with all of the reekage today! I spritzed Bogue MEM today for the first time, courtesy of Clarissa and the splitmeet, and…no reeking for me. I just wanna snuffle my wrist today, thank you. ????
MEM = YUM
MEM is awesome, you smell awesome!
Why thank you!
Same for me 🙂 first time i tried MEM I could not stop sniffing myself
I’m reeking in iris today, although I perfumelover67 has me beat! I have Heure Exquise on the left arm, No 19 on the right, and Orris and Sandalwood on my neck. I WILL say that while I love all three of these, at the end of the day, No. 19 is out-performing the other two. Heure Exquise is hanging in a little, but the Orris and Sandalwood is almost gone!
You smell wonderful! Orris and Sandalwood disappears on me very quick, like most of the JM, but it is a very nice one!
Amazing! Is your No.19 EDT or EDP?
Classy reeking!
I only brought my little box of Olympic Orchids samples with me on vacation and I just cannot reek havoc with them. There is something in each of them that makes my stomach slightly queasy, and the thought of wearing more than one is…unsettling. Today’s sample is Carolina, a sweet thing with the quease-inducing note. I’m halfway through the sample set, and I will finish trying them, but unless a miracle occurs I have found my evil scent perfume house–the one where NOTHING works for you.
I have had the same experience with OO. Wanted to like them, but there is just something in there that makes me want to heave. I’ve only tried a few, but it was enough to turn me off the entire house.
Same here with OO. The only one I wore more than once was Golden Cattleya, but it was just too, too sweet for me.
Count me in the No to OO club! I agree, there is something so dense in the sweetness that it can’t be enjoyed. I do like sweet stuff, but I think I like it to be fluffier and cloud-like instead of dense like honey.
Oh me too. The vice principal at my school said she was going to have to close the library if I ever sprayed them again, and that was after I scrubbed!
Oh dear. Thanks for the heads up! Money saved it sounds like. Sorry it made you queasy.
Well, on the one hadn I only wore 1 scent today. But in my defence:
– the scent was Robert Piguet “Bandit”
– I wore it (and re-applied it) on the flight to Malaga;
– I gave TOMK a headache.
So success all round, I think. >:^)
Top: aldehydes, orange, gardenia, galbanum, neroli, ylang-ylang and bergamot;
Mid: carnation, violet root, jasmine, rose and tuberose;
Base: leather, amber, patchouli, musk, coconut, civet, oakmoss, vetiver and myrrh.
Hahahaja! Poor TOMK. And the others on board.
I think you should surprise TOMK with the gift of a long haul flight…one of thise 15 hour ones.
Thank you for the late evening laugh! Bandit wins.
“Thank you for flying Havoc Airlines”
Bandit is so nice! For me the best part of Bandit arrives after two hours.
I didn’t reek of anything during the day today, just to be safe and not suffocate anyone, but now that I am home I grabbed a couple of samples and dabbed on Byredo Velvet Haze, for one. I like it a lot, but am having trouble isolating the different notes. I want to say that it all comes together well and I am enjoying it very much.
Then, in another spot, I put on some My Own Private Teahupo’o (A Lab on Fire). Love it! I get vanilla, amber and frangipani and some ocean whiffs (but definitely not enough to scare away people who don’t like aquatic things).
The last perfume I sampled in another spot is Institut Tres Bien Tres Russe and I smell bergamot, lemon and lavender in this one and maybe the rosemary. This smells good to me, too. It’s turning a bit herbal, but that’s fine.
I must be in a happy mood because I liked everything I sampled today. It’s probably a good thing, too, because I dabbed generously and all three seem to have a good amount of sillage and lasting power. Have to go out and do an errand yet late this afternoon. Wonder if I’ll get good or bad stares!
Thanks for the tidbit on My Own Private Teahupo’o…I’m really interested in that one. When you say ocean whiffs, would you say it leans more salty, or more seaweed-y? Or something else?
Well I was really looking forward to blasting through some samples this week and then…life! Way too many situations in which I didn’t want to be uncomfortable or reek to those around me. Today I doused myself in Reminiscence Vanille…smackdown with Cuir Beluga coming soon!!
Flex day off today so we had the fun of sitting in line waiting for an hour for an oil change. Wore Rogue as I didn’t want to choke out my hubs. I searched for Daim Blonde, but the sample dried up!
May have to try Chanel No 19 EDP and EDT in a face off!
No reeking for me. Just Stella because of early morning meeting. Then multiple hours dealing with health insurance stuff, making hair and further dental appointments. More Stella because the husband has dragged me to some Italian movie where the director will be appearing. Don’t want to blast out the intelligentsia and distract them from some movie about a guy riding his moped around Rome. My husband assures me I’ll love it. I did love the Mexican food and margaritas beforehand.
Sounds like a win! M&M..
Oh, that sounds like my favourite film Caro Diario…I have movie/ director envy
Yes! I quite liked it. I should be more appreciative of these things.
SsssotD = Eau des Merveilles over Jour d’Hermes, Un Jardin sur le Nil, and Le Jardin de Monsieur Li.
It’s a nice surprise to find these work together. The citrus notes blend nicely.
My heart has a tender spot for Hermes, making an easy choice for today. When I fell into perfume-love again a few years ago, it was the first house I found with many scents that feel just right for me.
Loved reading everyone’s comments today. Hope we can reek havoc again in the future. It could be the global NST Holly-day.
Hermes Havoc! 🙂
Hermes Havoc, lol, that’s perfect for how I felt today.
There is some freshness in My Own Private Teahupo’o, but there is salt, too.
I wore a six different DSH scents today including Mirabella, Giverny In Bloom, Parma Violet, Route d’Iris, L’eau d’Iris, and Vers la Violette. Except for Mirabella, which is dupe for Femme without the cumin note, I did not reek havoc after the initial blast.
Laughing at your all-Gaultier assortment. All I have right now is a sample card sprayed with Aramis, which is not getting along well with my Cashmere Woods candle. But I think my sampling record was 7 at a time.
Since I couldn’t reek havoc in the office, I decided to go with freekishly (!) old. If the provenance were to be believed, I have 80 year old L’Heure Bleue. The juice is dark and smells divine. LHB is a veritable smorgasbord of anything and everything I love: Iris, powdery violets, vanilla, carnation, Tonka, Amber …
Wow! 80 years old? amazing….and you must have smelled amazing 🙂
