Friday scent of the day 6/12

Posted by Robin on 12 June 2026 108 Comments

Happy (Boost Me Up) Friday! It’s also Anne Frank’s birthday, the World Day Against Child Labor and International Falafel Day. RIP David Hockney. Our community project for today: add a layer to your fragrance to strengthen or emphasize a desired note. Thanks to happy888cat for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

Inspired by ringthing yesterday, I’m in the teensiest layer of Tauer Incense Flash to amp up the incense in Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. I probably would have done better to just use some frankincense eo in unscented lotion…

Friday scent of the day 6/5

It’s Friday! Also, World Environment Day and National Veggie Burger Day. Birthdays: Pat Garrett, Pancho Villa, John Maynard Keynes, Ivy Compton-Burnett, Federico García Lorca, Richard Scarry. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with eucalyptus, if you have one. Thanks to Kanuka for the suggestion!

I’m commando for an appointment this morning, except for a very light layer of DIY eucalyptus and sweet orange lotion. My plan for this afternoon: more eucalyptus, with Diptyque 34 Boulevard Saint Germain…

Friday scent of the day 5/29

Posted by Robin on 29 May 2026 150 Comments

It’s the last Friday in May, plus World Digestive Health Day, National Biscuit Day and JFK’s birthday. Our community project for today is Shaken Not Stirred…for Ian Fleming’s birthday (yesterday), honor the James Bond character howsoever you like. You can repeat the theme of a 2008 poll (name your favorite James Bond actor (the choices, for anyone who can’t remember the entire line-up: Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig) and what fragrance you think their version of Bond would wear) or any of the questions from a 2018 followup we did for Sean Connery’s birthday, you can scent your favorite Bond movie, you can take inspiration from a specific film (or book!) locale or character, whatever you like. Thanks go to Lovestosmellgood for the idea!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

Sticking with my guns here, in Dior Eau Sauvage again. Pierce Brosnan was not my favorite Bond but it didn’t hurt to watch him, either…

Friday scent of the day 5/22

Happy Friday, plus happy World Goth Day and Sherlock Holmes Day. RIP Olivier Creed. Our community project for today: recommend a favorite song, show, movie or book (or any form of entertainment, really) and match a scent to your pick, or to one of the characters, or whatever. Adapted from a recommendation by therabbitsflower.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

If you love old screwball comedies and you have not seen My Man Godfrey, do watch it!* William Powell and Carole Lombard, what could be better? I have been trying to get my son to watch it for years and finally convinced him just last week, so it’s on my mind, but it’s been a favorite of mine for eons. I ought to go with something period (Schiaparelli Shocking would be perfect, if I had any) but instead I’m matching the exuberance with Aftelier Candide…

Friday scent of the day 5/15

It’s Friday and National Chocolate Chip Day, plus the International Day of Families and Peace Officers Memorial Day. Birthdays: Lady Mary Wortley Montagu, L. Frank Baum, Katherine Anne Porter, Richard Avedon, Jasper Johns. Our community project for today is the Picture Challenge, edition 11: choose a fragrance based on the Arnolfini Portrait by Jan van Eyck.* As usual, you are free to be as farfetched as you like in your fragrance choice…or go literal: her dress is green, they are both wearing animal fur, there are oranges on the chest and windowsill, and cherries on the tree outside the window, etc etc. Thank you to Calypso for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

For Ms. Arnolfini’s green wool dress, I’m in Hermès Vetiver Tonka. The vetiver is a decent enough match with the color, and some of you may remember that when the first four Hermessences launched, each was matched with a fabric, and Vetiver Tonka was meant to suggest wool…
