Happy Friday and happy National Red Wine Day! Birthdays: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Edward Burne Jones, Robertson Davies, Janet Frame, Rita Dove. RIP Tim Curry and Yayoi Kusama. Our community project for today: “the exception to the rule”…wear a fragrance that you love despite not generally caring for fragrances of its kind, or its brand, or its main note, or whatever…you come up with the rule and the exception.

My plan for today was L’Occitane Immortelle de Corse, a favorite of Kevin’s. I did not think I would love it because I don’t usually love immortelle, but as it turned out it’s the only immortelle fragrance that has ever grabbed me…unfortunately, it was limited edition and I did not decide in time that I wanted a bottle. Regrets! I do still have a few drops but I cannot wear it today so I am commando, running late, and behind on everything (I have not read yesterday’s comments, and likely won’t be able to read today’s until tomorrow, we’ll see). If I do not manage to post at all on Saturday, please use this post as an open thread…I will almost certainly be back early next week…

Happy Forgotten Friday! (And, happy National Spumoni Day and Count Basie’s birthday.) Our community project for today: root around in your perfume cabinet or drawer or basket of samples or what have you, and find something you keep forgetting to wear or forgot you even owned.

I am wearing Comptoir Sud Pacifique Thé, the long discontinued original in Eau de Parfum, sent to me years ago by Kevin, and not to be confused with the later Ecume de Thé…still lovely even though there are only a few drops left in the sample he sent. It’s the perfect antidote to my failure with the Marisa Zappos yesterday, and I’m glad I came across it last night. I will probably thunk this sample over the weekend. (Kevin mentions Comptoir Sud Pacifique Thé in his Top 10 Winter Fragrances 2010…)

I completely failed…I tried a layering combination of DIY Sweet Orange Lotion, Hermès Elixir des Merveilles and Maya Njie Vanilj, which I thought might produce something like a creamsicle cookie, but nope, no creamsicle whatsoever…
