Friday scent of the day 11/7

Posted by Robin on 7 November 2025 177 Comments

It’s Friday and National Bittersweet Chocolate with Almonds Day. Birthdays: Ruby Hurley, Albert Camus, Al Hirt, Joni Mitchell. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with vetiver, if you have one. (This is a repeat from 2017.)

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m smelling delicious in Hermès Vetiver Tonka. I might wear this all weekend…

Friday scent of the day 10/31

Posted by Robin on 31 October 2025 120 Comments

Happy Friday and happy Halloween! Birthdays: John Keats, Ethel Waters. Our community project today: wear your quirkiest or weirdest or spookiest fragrance.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

No points for me. I’m still out of town and still commando (other than my DIY lotion with sweet orange and ylang). I will head home later today…

Friday scent of the day 10/24

Posted by Robin on 24 October 2025 182 Comments

It’s Friday and United Nations Day. Our community project for today: wear any fragrance you like and tell us what you’d like people to think of you when they smell it on you, OR, wear a fragrance and connect it with a fellow reader who “enabled” you to get it or who you know likes it/has mentioned wearing it. Both of these projects were suggested by allo.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m in Fendi Theorema, a fragrance I associate with all the lovely people who used to hang out on the fragrance board at MakeupAlley. I’m sorry that I can no longer remember all the usernames of the Theorema fans, but they are all owed enabler pins for convincing me to try Theorema while I still could…

Friday scent of the day 10/17

Posted by Robin on 17 October 2025 174 Comments

It’s Friday and National Pasta Day, plus the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. Our community project for today: wear the perfume you would like to be buried or cremated in. (This was a suggestion from Deva, who did note that it is a bit macabre, but also that many cultures include fragrance materials of various sorts in their funerary rites. I was saving this project until Deva rejoined us, but since it looks like she has moved on to other interests, I’d like to take this opportunity to honor her since her presence here brightened everybody’s day for so long. If it’s too macabre for you, don’t join in, obviously!)

I do not have any strong opinions on what fragrance I’d want to be buried or cremated in. If I was to be buried, it wouldn’t hurt to throw a vintage houndstooth bottle of Diorissimo in my coffin? I’m more interested in what I’d smell while I was dying, and I think it should be something calming that did not bring up any associations with things I was trying to hold onto or fret over, so I’m going with my old standby Comme des Garçons Ouarzazate, layered over my DIY lotion of ylang and sweet orange for a little uplift. I suppose if I am cremated someone could spray on a refresh…

Friday scent of the day 10/10

Posted by Robin on 10 October 2025 149 Comments

It’s Friday and World Mental Health Day. Birthdays: Lilly Daché, R. K. Narayan, Harry “Sweets” Edison, Thelonious Monk, Harold Pinter, John Prine. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with nutmeg, if you have one.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

Double points for me: Fendi Theorema on one arm, Comptoir Sud Pacifique L’Eau du Gouverneur on the other (plus, a sprinkle of nutmeg on my tea and John Prine singing Lake Marie in the background)…
