Happy Color My World Friday! (It's also the twelfth day of Christmas and National Bird Day.) Our community project for today: wear a perfume with a color in its name. If you don't have one, tell us what color you think matches your perfume. Thanks to Pyramus for the suggestion.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm coloring my world with Pantone's shade for 2018, Ultra Violet, via Vilhelm Purple Fig. (And sorry for being so late — this morning did not go as planned!)
Reminder: on 1/12, we're doing Rinse, repeat...pick a favorite community project from the past, and do it again. (If you need a reminder, here are the lists for 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I’m wearing Orange Sanguine, for that burst of citrus in the opening. I need that bright energy today.
I could use a shot of that myself!
Orange Sanguine is a goodie for sure!
Please make my energy shot a double. I’m out of coffee. ????
Horrors! Even more horrid is I keep a jar of instant in the back of the cupboard, lest I run out and forget to get more. Emergency measures (break glass in case…)
Thankfully, my apartment complex is literally upstairs from a Starbucks, so when I run out, I can just go out
That’s quite the amenity! I wish…
Smelling pretty darn fabulous in Body Shop Red Musk. One of the best cheapie scents I’ve ever come across…..
Enjoy your weekend everyone!
And I considered White Musk Midnight Iris…iris being sort of a color.
Blue iris is a Pantone color (it was their color of the year in 2008)!
Thanks, I like that shade!
Well, I’m really on theme in TF Violet Blonde. It’s the only ‘fume I own with an actual color in the name (not counting “rose” or “amber” even though those are technically names of colors). Before I remembered I had the TF, I nearly went with Wood Sage and Sea Salt and was cooking up a lame explanation that “Sea Salt” is the name of a paint color I want on my bathroom walls. Thank you, Tom Ford, for saving me from that.
LOL — but that was creative thinking! Plus, sage is a color!
Oh, good point!
Is that the Sherwin Williams Sea Salt? One of our bedrooms is painted in that color.
Yes! It’s a really pretty soft grey-green – does the room you have it in get a lot of light? The bathroom I want it in is “landlocked” but has an east-facing skylight – in summer it is just flooded with light most of the day, but right now it stays pretty dark in there. It is a darker shade of blue-green now and it needs lightening up … but not too much.
Because the window in that room is on an angled wall, half the room is dark no matter what (poor design, but we’re stuck with it). The other half has good light for most of the day. As you can imagine, it made finding a shade of paint we liked difficult.
I wore WS&SS earlier this week and told myself that sage is a color
you smell great!
I love Violet Blonde. You smell great! I might need to wear that one tomorrow to round out my color week.
I am wearing Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu. It’s the airiest lavender scent I’ve ever tried, and tea notes are very nice here. I have finally found a scent from Bvlgari tea collection I really enjoy. I think I’ll need a decant. Many thanks, Robin, for enabling.
PSA: Lush UK has already (pre-)released their Valentine’s Day range on UK website: https://uk.lush.com/products/valentines-day
I do not think I want anything (yet?), but talking about color the range looks cute and rosy.
Oh my, Tender is the Night, that looks like something I need — jasmine & ylang. And thought it sounded familiar, and yes, Jessica reviewed the massage bar:
Yes, it’s the same lovely scent. If they released a liquid shower gel, I’d be tempted.
Yes, I don’t really want the “naked” gel either.
Oof, I will have to sniff it just for the name. (I was a massive Fitzgerald fan in high school, and might still call him my favorite author if I were forced to choose one.)
That one’s really nice. Almost got it but went for Yesss instead.
Oooh, I’ve been looking for a lavender scent – will add it to my list.
I think it’s an excellent light scent for easing into lavender.
Bless you Glannys! I’m ON it! Love that combo – like Allora’s Ambiance . Can’t get enough!!!
Thank you, AngelaB. Not sure if you mean tea and lavender when you say you love that combo. If so, I agree – this combination is very relaxing and atmospheric in this scent.
SL Fourreau Noir (I bought the bell jar at the Palais Royal shop in 2009), just a single drop so as not to offend anyone. It’s SO GORGEOUS, a kind of lavender fougere but darkened almost to unrecognizability, with a black-licorice quality that I can’t get enough of.
As for those people who say that black isn’t a colour: well, no, in the most technical, pedantic sense black and white aren’t colours, but here in the real world where normal people live, they are.
Seriously, nobody here is going to say black is not a color, are they? We give community project points for ANY attempt to participate, don’t we? (Plus, if you can paint a wall with it, it’s a color, ha)
Plus, thank you for the project idea, this was fun!
So that’s why I chose to finally dust my neglected Black Oud bottle (Montale) today, and it is the perfect scent for a cold, rainy and windy day.
Your description of Fourreau Noir sounds much like what I think when I wear Dior’s Eau Noire – lavender and licorice!
I mean, I claimed outrenoir was a color earlier this week, so I expect you’re good. (Fourreau Noir sounds wonderful!)
you smell wonderful. I can’t really imagine this offending anyone.
In Iris Sylver Mist to color my freezing day with spring memories. Longing for its arrival badly…..
LOL — but Sylver cracked me up! And you do smell fantastic.
Thank you Robin! I think coffee is not working enough for me today
The way I figure it, January is almost over so it’s practically February, which means almost March, which means Spring! Kinda…..
Lol, I like the way you think! (but you do know it’s the 5th today, right?????)
But by the end of next week, its halfway over!
I like your approach, especially at the beginning of January! I will try to be that positive….
Remember, I live by the retail calender. Projecting into the future comes naturally to me ????
Almost wore that today, myself. You smell great. I think the only time I like to wear it is on cold but sunny days and today is just that!
Thank you! I usually wear it at the beginning of spring, however, today is working beautifully.
you smell wonderful!
Thank you Elizabeth!
Wonderful choice! One of my favorite irises.
My Shalimar tea arrived yesterday! Have not tried it yet
True Confession: I have so much tea..
Robin, if you ever want to do inside my tea cabinet I will volunteer myself!
Ooh, Shalimar Tea! I envy you.
If I ever visit New York, u are the person I want to come and take tea with!
HA — I just want to come visit your tea cabinet in person! What are you doing here, go brew up a cup of that tea!
Please, please post your thoughts on the Shalimar tea when you have an opportunity….I am insanely curious about it!
I have not tried it yet because my neighbor also brought me tea from Mauritius ???? Island as a gift . A beautiful tea with subtle vanilla flavor which I am sipping on now and can see why she said “it’s the best tea”
Oh that sounds delightful. Still, let me join the chorus of “try the Shalimar (and report back)!”
Rose Barbare is such a beauty. I guess it would go with both the Mauritius tea and the Shalimar
It is, the name of the tea is called Bois Chéri
If you have a moment you should look at the island where the tea is from..oh my..bliss!
You smell divine! Have you ever tried it layered with Cuir Beluga?????????
No, but the next time I am at a Guerlain counter…
My day started off rocky with a nightmare commute. One of the 3 trains I have to take to get to work had wall-to-wall people on the platform and a long line just to go up the stairs to get to the platform. Ugh. Fortunately, I didn’t see a single fight- how unusual!
I’m wearing the last drops from my MDCI Peche Cardinale. Very cheerful and helped keep my road rage in check.
That could be a new Friday Project: Road Rage Controlling Scents.
Ha! Something very animalic mght give me more personal space.
Three trains itself is exhausting…. but Peach! Sounds lovely for a frigid day.
It’s sounds worse than it is, but the chances of mishaps increases by a lot. Peach makes me smile ????
So sorry, At least you smell good
I was fortunate with the trains, but I had to wait almost half an hour for the bus to arrive. Many of us were freezing at the stop and it broke my heart to see a little baby (around 2 months old) without gloves. She cried so badly and her mother just kept covering her head with a blanket. It never occurred to her that her little fingers were most likely frozen and in terrible pain. She usually has a very rude attitude, so nobody approaches her anymore to offer help when she seems to need it. She commutes everyday with 3 kids and none of them ever wear gloves.
Anyway, I hope my commute back home is not so traumatic….
Oof. At least I was underground. I hate seeing that and have been tempted to say something myself sometimes. My big pet peeve are parents who have a child on their bicycle and apparently are too cool for helmets for either of them. I think they should give out tickets for that.
Good luck with your commute home. I’ll take the East River ferry home which is the most pleasant way to go when I can do it.
Wow, they don’t give tickets for that? Kinda shocked. In Canada (British Columbia, anyways) it’s law to have helmets when you are riding a bicycle.
I hope that your evening commute is better. OTOH, you finished a sample! Yay!
Thanks! Yeah, yay! And you gave it to me! ????
I remember. ????
bummer. hope the day gets better! you smell nice!
3 trains? Ugh. Glad no fights broke out. You have my sympathies.
I hope your day got better!
The rest of the day was fine but I spaced out waiting for the ferry and got on the wrong one! Geez. It was a very pleasant ride, though. No crowds and great views.
I put in such a loooong day yesterday I justified working from home again today. I did shovel out the steps and cleaned my car but man, it was COLD!
I picked a scent that perfectly matched the colr of the skies in Columbus Ohio: Rykiel Homme Grey. The skies may be blah but this fragrance isn’t!!
Stay safe and warm as Ole Man Winter continues his rant. Remember pets and neighbors too!!
Have a great weekend.
Double points for me–in MH Tangerine Vert. Not a winter scent, but it seems to contain real oakmoss, so I’m happy.
ShopRunner just sent me an email regarding that Pantone color, featuring a pair of Jimmy Choos (Madeline suede platform pumps), which have me envisioning a trip to the ER).
Popped into Nordstrom yesterday–they seem to be hoping to sell more expensive scents, including a few of the Kilians. If you buy the large Moonlight in Heaven, it comes with a lovely black clutch with a MOP clasp. I wonder if you can remove the mold that holds the perfume bottle? In any case, it’s not the right accessory for my usual attire of yoga pants, cords or jeans.
Lucky you on the oak moss and your Nordstrom. My Nordstrom does not carry any of the higher end fragrances.
I’m wearing the Lolita Lempicka with Blanc in the name. L’Eau Blanc? A nice snowy iris with violet and vanilla.
L’Eau en Blanc. I admit to buying this for the bottle!
The bottle is cute but I like the scent too!
That sounds really nice. I don’t know if I’ve ever come across that one before.
Mmm. I love L’Eau en Blanc, which you turned me on to! I had it on my list for this week but haven’t gotten to it. Maybe later today.
Wearing Guerlain l’Heure Bleu vintage extrait. I love how the extrait is much more plush compared to the EDT.
I purchased tiny decants of HB, Jicky, Liu and Mitsouko and am excited to try the other ones as well.
Still drinking lots of coffee.
Envy your decants
you smell great!
L’Heure Bleue EDP, definitely not vintage, here. I am still a little bit sick (ten days now), and this is my first day of real perfume. Choices were this, green, or gray. There are so few days when I feel I can get away with L’HB that I just could not resist. Great topic for the community project!
Just had a shower with my new Lord of Misrule lush shower gel, and some gorgeous rose body butter I got for Christmas, so smelling good enough without perfume. However my SOTD when I get back from school run/ballet will be the gorgeous 1889 Moulin Rouge, enabler pin (among many!) to the lovely and generous haemalemis for this beauty. (I’ve spelt that terribly, but u all know who I mean).
I was thinking this morning that I wish I still had my sample of Moulin Rouge for today. You smell delightful!
Thanks!, it’s really lovely, isn’t it!?
It’s a very playful one, for sure!
Lord of Misrule shower gel lasts all day on my skin, which I really love! Most shower gels are gone the moment the shower is over. You smell awesome today!
In keeping with my desire to go through samples, I pawed through containers this morning to see which, if any, had a color in the name.
Jasmin Rouge! A generous sample from when TF SAs would fill a little bottle via pipette (especially if they were bored and enjoyed conversation). A friend was contemplating buying it (she later did…after saving up).
Already had coffee and have switched to Tea Pigs licorice & peppermint tea. I’m not a fan of peppermint, but I do love licorice in tea and the combo is nice on a cold morning.
“Tea Pigs”. What a cute name! Jasmin Rouge is a pretty one.
You smell great!
you smell wonderful!
Ambre Russe on this chilly morning. It is perfect!
Mmm, boozy deliciousness! I’m doing ambers next week and that’s on my list.
Lovely, I wore that one yesterday.
My favourite amber, you smell great!
Another mid-50s day expected here in Denver, so I’m celebrating our good fortune by wearing DSH’s Hansa Yellow from her Chroma Collection. The color ‘hansa yellow’ falls somewhere between yellow and orange, and this scent captures that shade perfectly. The floral notes are ylang (which is Hansa yellow-like in color), jasmine, and neroli, with a heart of citrus and banana (a note I normally hate, but Dawn totally makes it work here), and a lovely base of sandalwood and vanilla. It’s a sunny and yet rich fragrance. The ylang is the most prominent note to me, but the citrus and the banana/vanilla provide a perfect balance to the floral notes, giving it just a hint of gourmand, but no worries, you will not smell like banana bread, lol. It’s a very happy and contented fragrance, perfect for a relaxed and sunny Friday. TGIF!
There are times when I think I’d like to smell like banana bread! This one sounds nice, I will put it on my DSH to-try list. She has so many in her catalogue that it’s hard to narrow down what to sample. Enjoy your day. We have single digits here!
I agree that Hansa Yellow is such a happy scent. Envious of your balmy weather
Oh dang, I just placed a DSH order 10 minutes ago, and this one sounds great. I’ll have to remember it for my next order.
Trying a sample of By Kilian Woman in Gold. Which smells a lot like Tocade – more subtle, but still rose-vanilla. To me, more of a red or pink association than gold.
Thanks, still have not tried that one so good to know.
YAY Robin for going with the PURPLE THEME! I am crazy for Pantone’s Princely purple!
I chose LM Parfum Sensual Orchid for my Friday fume. She’s a classy dame….. she reminds me of an older “proper’ serious perfume but I can’t place it. Anyone help me here, (Hajusuuri???)
AND A BIG Thank you Hajusuuri for the Split – I can’t wait to see what you pick!
This has been a great project, It has been very entertaining reading all the posts during the week.
You smell wonderful.
Nice! Unfortunately, I can’t help you with the proper serious perfume.
The one they did for Prince? That’s a great shade of purple.
Hmm, I think I would love Ultra Violet if it shaded a little more blue. In any case, I’m playing along in Imaginary Authors Violet Disguise. I don’t love it, but this was the perfect day to finish off my sample.
It might be just my computer but the shade looks a little muddy & flat to me?
Laboratorio Olfattivo’s Decou-Vert because I thought that was a clever name. Also a nice green fragrance for an icy white day.
I didn’t get a chance to congratulate you earlier on your decision to retire – how exciting!
Thank you, I am busy planning a new life.
More belated congratulations on your upcoming retirement! It sounds like you have an excellent plan for what comes next for you.
L’Heure Bleue, as I’m sure most people are! I have some vintage formulations but today the modern EdT will announce me coming.
When I worked retail I only smelled it in a guest once. She was so chic! I’m not sure I pull it off similarly but it is absolutely gorgeous regardless.
You smell great
You all smell lovely!
I’m so glad today’s theme reminded me that I haven’t worn Black Cashmere yet all winter. I am wearing A LOT and I smell SO good!
Oh how I miss that one! I used up my last pebble bottle of the EDP years ago, and now even the reform edt version is gone. You smell wonderful!
Oh no! I didn’t know the reformulation had gone away, too!
You smell fantastic. I bought a vintage bottle from the bay but it was nothing but cloves. The scent had gone off.
Wearing Serge Lutens La fille de Berlin, what a stunning burgundy color this perfume is!
It really is beautiful. I love tinted perfumes
I think when I bought it, it was half as much for the hypnotizing color.
you smell lovely.
Sampling Ormonde Jayne Black Gold for a two color name! That, however, is about as exciting as it gets. It’s a boring, low projection soft herbal woody scent on me that is definitely not worth the money
That sounds exactly how I would describe Ormonde woman on my skin, so disappointing.. Ormonde man is wonderful on my husband tho.
Twins for the double word score! This seems so average, but then something at the far bottom transports me to an office breakroom where someone has recently reheated their aggressively-scented lunch. Must be the sage? Whatever it is, I don’t need it in my life.
Oh, geez! lol
“aggressively scented” – love it! I will use it in a sentence next week!
Strangely, it took me quite a while to think of something suitable.
Luckily, however, after some reflection I remembered a sample of a scent, that’s not only named after a coloured something, that’s not even just named after the colour itself, but that’s even named after being NAMED after a colour – i.e. Majda Bekkali’s “Mon nom est Rouge” !
How perfect! It’s like it’s just ASKING you to include it in the community project.
Ha! Good one!
Perfect! Wonder if I still hsve a sample of that one.
I just had to wear 31 Rue Cambon today, it was calling my name! Unfortunately no color words in this one.
Not sure about the rest of you but I’m thrilled it’s Friday! Seems like the week was 3Xs longer than usual with just getting back from break and having Monday off.
As for Pantone’s color of the year I am not a fan. Purple/violet is right up there with the other color I cannot stand, mauve. A very pale lilac or lavender is pretty and my bedroom is actually this color, but full on purple I’ll pass on. I think sage is a big color this year as well and that’s also in the purple/mauve bucket. Not a good year for color for me!
I like mauve okay in accessories. Difficult to be a main color though. Love lavender walls!
Smelling gorgeous there!
Thank you, my dear.
I thought I was pretty much alone in disliking purple. (I don’t know, there are probably people who dislike all the colors I love. Takes all kinds.) I mean, most shades of purple make me feel depressed and lethargic, and I can’t imagine deliberately choosing that Pantone shade for walls. Or clothing, for that matter.
I get on fine with blue-purple periwinkle, or pinky-purple orchid, or purply-maroon berry shades, but most of the rest of them = BIG NO for me.
Love periwinkle! Cute name for a pet too
I am in total agreement with you, pretty much word for word.
Hehe. I’m the “all kinds,” mal! I’m actually wearing a purple sweater right now. Jewel tones suit me, on the other hand yellows and oranges don’t. Unless we’re talking painting, in which case I love almost every color, especially for landscapes.
We are evil color twins
I’m late, I’m cold, I’m wearing Cuir Amythste. It’s a color, and sorry no time to spell correctly. Have a great day everyone!
You smell wonderful!
SOTD is CdG Blackpepper. It’s staying nicely in the background of my raging sinus headache. Took some meds, sipping my coffee and trying to zen out for 2 minutes before the conference calls start. Happy Friday!
Great choice! Hope you feel better.
I hope your head gets better soon.
Hope the sinus headache goes away quickly. Our humidifier is running, but I wish it were warm rather than cold steam right now….
Feel better! You smell great!
Ugh. Hope the meds help and the whole thing goes away ASAP.
My dad loves blackpepper, you smell great. hope you feel better soon!
Bulgari Black for me today. It’s good in the cold. But tomorrow I’m going to be snuggling right back up to Chypre Mousse…
I figured this would be the most common choice today! You smell yummy.
I didn’t think of Bvlgari Black! That’s a perfect choice today….
Sooooooo in love with the Color of the Year, I’m needing some Paco Rabanne’s Ultraviolet to match!
I’m a huge fan of Ultraviolet and the flankers!
Oh, you win 2018 color match!
Be careful, test gingerly! When I tried Paco Rabanne Ultraviolet in the early 2000s, I thought it was the most unbearable perfume I had ever smelled! Reformulation might for once have been an improvement in this case.
Hi everyone, this is a fun project and people have found so many ways to participate! I’m wearing Andy Warhol Silver Factory from a fairly old decant that I just about forgot I had. This is a marvelous scent, maybe Bond’s best (though I do love Chinatown). I’m getting incense, cedar, and various floral notes. I also considered Keiko Mecheri’s Iris Pourpre but wasn’t in the mood as it’s rather sweet.
I love Chinatown as well! But that is the only one I like from that house..so far..
I like Chinatown. Central park West is the one I really love though.
Oh, good choice! Chinatown and Silver Factory are the only ones I like as well!
Same here! They are the two best of the line for me.
SOTD is Widian “Black IV”.
Top: bergamot, blackcurrant and prune;
Mid: rose and white flowers;
Base: vanilla, musk, leather and sandalwood.
Well this is odd. As I wore this during the day I would have sworn it was a woody scent with some leather lurking in the background. Then I reapplied as I left the office and read the Fragrantica notes above. That’s not how it smells to me! But now I can’t get the woody notes either. ????
Isn’t it funny how some scents seem to lead a double life?!- completely different on skin to paper.
I’m wearing Iris 39 by le labo, iris being a lovely shade of dark blue to me. I don’t wear this perfume very often because I’m pretty sure my husband hates it, but I do really love it. A full bottle may be in my very distant future, since I have somehow accumulated 5 sample sprays without noticing. Thanks perfume fairy!
Hi Sistine, did u get my email? if not, could u give me you’re address again, thank u ver much!
Hi Mayfly, I did! I’m going to mail your package tomorrow.
Address is payne underscore cm at yahoo. It’s been crazy lately, so I wasn’t able to respond yet.
You smell great! I don’t think my husband likes it either, but then again, he doesn’t like much. He excels at tolerance, though ????
But, I’ve gotten compliments from others when I’ve worn it.
SOTD is Chanel No 5 Fragments d’Or, which not only has ‘Or’ (gold) in the name, it’s in the gel itself. So now I am sparkly gold like the Goldfinger Bond girl. Well not THAT gold, but definitely sparkly.
The scent is actually quite nice… very light No 5. And sparkly. Did I mention sparkly? Fun, especially for a dreary day.
shine on pixel!
you smell great, and that bottle is so gorgeous to display.
Is it ever! Such gorgeous gold swirliness.
How does it compare to No 5 l’Eau? I loathe No 5, but absolutely adore No 5 l’Eau (all the sparkle! none of the awful heft!), and your description makes Fragments d’Or sound like a version of No 5 that I would like.
Living in the pink today!
Pink Quartz by Olivier Durbano
I love Pink Quartz, ver underrated scent. I think you and I are the only ones here who wear it.
To me it seems that Olivier Durbano is not very much known outside of Europe.
I agree. Only Luckyscent in US carries the line and they are slow to stock the new releases.
Your SOTD sounds so pretty, based on the descriptions I have read about it.
Vintage Emeraude pdt today, very snuggly in this ridiculously cold wind!
I don’t know the perfume but I love emerald green!
Such a great fragrance. You smell fabulous. I adore the color of emeralds.
Whenever vintage Emeraude is mentioned I think to myself that there must a modern niche scent that comes close.
SotD = Terracotta Le Parfum
Terracotta is a color, yes? Orange, subdued by brown. t
This is a wonderful winter scent, it moves in slow motion in the cold air.
I like Pantone Ultra Violet. Last night I was feeling quite purple in R&G Lavande Royale and lavender essential oil for a good night’s sleep.
Hurray for National Bird Day! Feathered family members can be LOUD, messy, destructive, and demanding. But they offer unlimited fun, affection, happy sounds, and amazing surprises when given an appropriate living space, a healthy and varied diet, plus lots of interaction with playmates both feathered and human.
Have a fabulous Friday, fragrant friends.
Yes! terracotta may be more of a color than say “green” because when you hear terracotta doesn’t the specific color of the tiles and earth come to mind? but when you hear “green” any number of shades and meanings could come to mind.
got to add Terracotta to my list
Terracotta is definitely a color in my book… I think Crayola used to have a crayon named that. ????
Wearing Chanel Allure Pour Homme Edition Blanche today (inspired by Robin’s daily lemming post yesterday). Although I believe blanche translates as white, this fragrance for me is yellow-green. No lemon pie here for me – it’s lemon, but it’s got lots of greenery with it. Gorgeous.
Agree, it does not smell white.
This one is a meh for me, but I really ordered the entire discovery set just to get my hands on a sample of Dear Polly.
My favorite fig is Hermes Méditerranée. I lived in that one a few summers ago.
After today I am on staycation for the next two weeks! Woo hoo and TGIF!
Lucky duck! Enjoy your time off!
Nice, hope it is a wonderful 2 weeks!
Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds parfum…..lurv it, last year I would have described it smelling like sweet flowers, now I would say white floral, progress
I’m wowed by the Pantone color of the year, sure to please purple lovers! Little similar to last year’s Benjamin Moore color shadows, but a true-“blue” purple.
I love the idea of picking a color of the year, so impossible, but a great way to celebrate shades and options!
WD parfum is surprisingly nice.
I’m wearing SL Sarrasins. It’s not got a colour in the name, but it’s SO PURPLE. It even smells purple for me. So – Happy New Year of the colour ultra violet everyone!
It’s most certainly the purplest of all the jasmines I’ve ever tried!
Gorgeous color and smell!
you smell fabulous!
1) SOTD: Tom Ford’s Noir (pour Femme). It’s posh and very polished indeed, meant for evenings I am sure, but it is also so lovely that I wear small amounts in the day!
2) Am dressed in a black sweater, black jeans and shoes and big gold earrings. More boho than TF’s polished femme fatale, I am afraid!
Have you seen Nocturnal Animals? I didn’t love the movie but it really has some striking visuals. (Your #2 comments brought it to mind.)
You know, I have that on queue for my Amazon Prime BUT I have not seen it yet. I know what I am watching this weekend (along with Call Me…)
Hello there wonderful fragrant NSTers! I haven’t posted in awhile but have been lurking about a bit. In December, I decided to reduce my perfume media intake in order to reduce the lemmings, and I must say it is effective! As I’m laid out on the couch with some kind of virus today, I decided to finally post on my experience comparing Cuir Beluga to Reminiscence Vanille (brought to you by the ever kind hajusuuri, for science of course!!)
Bottom line-if you really know and love Cuir Beluga, Vanille is not going to be a perfect substitute. CB is more refined, more plush, much longer lasting, and does have a touch of suede whereas Vanille has none and is all about the marzipan-tinged fluffiness. However, for someone who has had maybe just had a whiff of CB and loved it but doesn’t want to shell out the cash, Vanille may be great! I can say I am definitely not tempted to get a bottle of CB in addition to my bottle of Vanille, but if I ever run out of Vanille and have the budget, I may try to get CB.
Also, awhile back I asked if anyone has tried the Pat McGrath lipsticks. I did get 2 with my gift card and I wanted to report that they are so amazing! The matte one in Obsessed is seriously ridiculous, stays on so well without feeling drying and the color, oh the color!! I have actually received compliments from strangers on my lipstick when wearing it, which I have never had happen before. The other one is a more satin finish (luxetrance I think) in Major Red and is also very nice.
Wishing you all a joyous and healthy and fragrantly wonderful 2018!
Googling Pat McGrath lipsticks…
Thanks for th CB / RC comparison. I have a decant of CB and I was wondering what else was similar.
Ooh, you had me at “marzipan-tinged fluffiness.” I’m going to have to look into Reminiscence Vanille.
Hey Eldiyen! That’s a great comparison! Now I have to look up Pat McGrath even though I don’t wear lip pies.
I don’t really have that many perfumes with color names (aside from Noir or Black), so I went with Bulgari Eau Parfumeé au Thé Rouge.
I like this year’s Pantone color. I don’t know that I’d want to paint a wall with it, but I’d wear it for sure.
You smell wonderful! This is my fav of the Thé series.
Mine too! It’s the only one I actually own.
Smelling classy, green, and clean in Tom Ford Vert de Fleur. It’s my first time having a full wearing of it other than sampling, and I’m really enjoying it. I do wish it was longer lasting though. It’s already quite faint 2 hours after I applied it.
I was too busy to post yesterday, but I wore Reglisse Noire thanks to a mini from springpansy. I love that one.
Have a great Friday all! I’m wishing I could fast forward to the evening when I’m going Goodwill shopping and to a Japanese restaurant with a friend.
That one was on my list and I’ve also only tested it thus far. Sounds like a fun night you have planned!
I have a decant of that one and I like it quite a bit, but I have similar longevity issues with it.
Your Friday evening plans sound marvelous! My plans for tonight include: getting a haircut then shopping for a cat carrier for my kitten’s first vet visit tomorrow
CdG Blue Encens today. Cool, watery incense. I like it for the cardamom.
I seem to have a surprising lack of fragrances with a colour in their name, apart from Orange Verte and Thé vert by Bvlgari, so I’m wearing White Linen although strictly speaking white is not a colour, if you describe colour the way it’s described in physics. However, physics definitely not being my best subject at school, I’ll happily wear a fragrance with white in its name, besides White Linen is really a lovely aldehydic rose.
You smell lovely. WL was a signature scent for me many moons ago.
You smell gorgeous! Blazed through several bottles of this in the 70s.
Fascinating. I’ve never once gotten the teeniest bit of rose from that one.
I think I once read somewhere that it actually contains some really high quality rose. I get it quite clearly although it’s obviously not all about the rose, maybe give it another sniff?
Ugh, once again, I’ve failed at the CP, as I am wearing the lovely 5 O’Clock au Gingembre. It’s, uh, kind of a lovely golden brown in my head. I am in no way influenced by the color of the juice.
You know, I have more Serge Lutenses than I have of any house that is not Hermes. I look forward to trying out some of the Paris-only offerings once I get there. (Which ones should I prioritize trying?)
Now that I have a real job, my perfume budget has become artificial. Those of you who also impose nonobligatory perfume budgets: How do you set your limits? I’m concerned I’m going to spend way too much money on perfume in Paris and then spend all year feeling horribly guilty.
My last trip, I spent way too much money in London but gloated all year how much I had saved because the dollar was so much stronger than the pound.
I’m still hoping the euro will go down to below the conversion rate it was at when I had to change all my euros back to dollars last year (it was particularly low back then, something like 1.12 :-/ ).
You could pick a # of bottles to bring back, like 3? And those would be things you can’t easily get in US.
I guess you have to pack them in a checked suitcase right?
I may be going to Paris in April as well, I’ll keep you posted. I’m gong to get my passport updated, and my kids and hubs in case we all go on some Caribbean vacation – better to be prepared!
That’s a good idea. It’ll be hard to pick a number. I’ll do some research.
Suitcase space isn’t an issue, (un)fortunately. The boyfriend has status on Air France from all the times he visited me, so we will get roughly 1000 free bags. The boyfriend looked rather grim when I mentioned that we could buy more suitcases in France to tote all my newly purchased bottles of perfume. Sigh.
And I meant to say, hooray for Paris in April! Do let me know what you end up doing!
Decide how much you want to spend, then put this amount of cash in an envelope. Spend until the envelope is empty. This is what has worked for me when I didn’t want to run up my credit cards.
I like this idea. Probably makes you more selective than you would otherwise be.
Great idea! What kinds of metrics do you use to decide how much money to put into the envelope? (Clearly, the question is how much I want my money vs. how much I want those perfumes, but I have a very hard time figuring out what the answer to that question is.)
I think about how much money I want to spend on perfume (an amount that won’t make me feel bad later), the number of bottles I want to add to my collection, and the average price of the bottles I would want to buy. This year that amount is $1,000. When I was working and had a smaller collection, the number was $3,000. Your mileage may vary, of course.
I would set aside some $s to spend at the duty-free shops for even perfumes easily available in the U.S. You must do your research first to be able to decide if it is worthwhile to lug it home based on the price difference.
I wanted to be on theme with Black orchid, or Man in black, or Jasmin rouge. But I changed my mind this morning and chose Winter woods, from a sample.
Aww this is gorgeous.
I wish SSS would expand distribution to Europe. But they probably dont need to. When you are in the US/Canada, the marker is already huge.
Market. Not marker.
Oh and the colour I associate with this scent, especially in the dry down, is bronze with dark brownish shades
Yes, I, too, wish they would expand. I keep reading about Sonoma Scents Studio and have several of their scents on my test list (including Winter Woods). Lots of American indie scents are almost impossible to sample outside the US.
I’m sure you smell great!
Once in a blue moon I order a few small decants (sample sized mostly) at one of the US decanters. Yes its pricey, with shipping costs, but sometimes thats the only way I get to try some US brands or limited distribution fragrances.
Mmm, that’s good stuff. Visually for me it’s white, as it brings to mind frost wafting in a forest. (If that makes sense. I’m not sure frost wafts, exactly )
Winter Woods is one of my absolute favorites. You smell perfect!
You smell super!
After trying all of the color perfumes in my test list, I settled on Lampblack. Honorable mention to Xerjoff Blue Hope, which smells like a rather sophisticated creamsicle.
HAHAHAHA I just saw the retail price of Blue Hope. So glad I didn’t know before I tried it. That creamsicle is sophisticated indeed!
This is why I don’t bother sniffing the Xerjoffs!
Smelling great! I love Lampblack and thought about it for today, but wanted something warmer.
I am rocking Gris Montaigne today. I think this scent is meant for warmer days because I can barely smell it.
I actually have this problem with the Dior Privees: they just disappear instantly, and I find myself reapplying every hour or so! I’ve been contemplating a decant of GM ever since I tried it a few weeks ago. I’m holding out for the swapmeet, but that’s soooo faaaar awaaaaaay that I might cave before then. It’s so pretty!
It really is pretty. Better hurry though. I read somewhere that the Privees are on the chopping block. I do get better mileage from it during warmer weather.
Perhaps someone will want to split it for the splitmeet! (Maybe??)
Chopping block?!! All of them? No!
Yup, according to the SA at the Dior I recently checked out. All of them, to make room for a more feminine, floral, monolithic series.
A.k.a…boring… Judging by the recent releases by Chanel, Hermes and Guerlain.
I will send you some. Not sure if I kept your email address though.
That is so kind of you! Will e-mail.
You smell beautiful! Maybe some of the musks aren’t making it to your nose. That happens to me with some perfumes in the cold. Plus buried under many layers.
Most likely. I have allergies year round. I wore it last week and it smelled great and lasted all day.
you smell great! what did I do with my decant….
Thanks! I hope you find your decant!
Ah, this SotD prompted me to hunt down my forgotten sample of Miller et Bertaux Green, green & green! Thanks for the inspiration! I smell very … green.
Yes you do!
SOTD = Bvlgari Black
Every time I type “Bvlgari” I feel like an impostor, as if I had some kind of affectation to make people think I have a glamorous lifestyle rubbing elbows with the glitterati in my daily comings and goings. Anyway, this perfume couldn’t be further from that impression!
Yesterday, I commented that I needed to ask for credit back on a $5 Uber cancellation fee (driver couldn’t find my house and he knew little to no English for me to give him directions). While it was very easy to get the credit, I also wanted to leave a comment about the driver without using the ratings. There were only 2 places to leave comments: a safety concern or an issue with a service animal. I ended up using the service animal issue comment section but clearly identified it as NOT a service animal issue. Does anyone know where I could have left a comment other than the one I used?
I feel the same way about “Bvlgari.” But even weirder typing “Bulgari”…
I agree the Bulgari does not look right!
Yes. Either one is bad.
I don’t, unfortunately, although I’ve had good luck getting credits from Uber as well. I feel for the guy not being able to communicate, but we are in an English speaking country so… get some lessons on the basics already!
It was easy to get credit!
I’m wearing Roja Dove Lilac today. I love lilac in perfumes, and this is probably my second favorite. Desarmant comes first and En Passant, third.
Opardu is my top lilac. Puredistance is expensive. I can’t image the price tag on RD. I bet it’s gorgeous.
I’m not following the project because I just didn’t feel like it. I needed a comfort scent today (story to follow), went with some Musc Ravageur oil and perfume.
Before we moved into our apartment, we already owned a front-loading washer and dryer. The apartment comes with a W/D but they are crap, and instead of storing our good W/D, we switched them out. The only issue is that they’re not set up correctly in the laundry closet because the OG W/D were not front loading. It’s always a pain doing laundry because of the crazy set up, and I was JUST telling my husband how I can’t wait until we get a house and have the correct set up.
So. Yesterday morning, while I was unloading some clothes from the dryer, the door came careening towards me with the power of one thousand suns and smacked directly onto my right eye (brow bone and eyelid). It broke the skin and I now have a black eye. Spent the good part of yesterday taking anti-inflammatory drugs and icing it. Thank goodness for concealer. Today’s makeup is brought to you by Cle de Peau and Kat Von D.
So far, 2018 is shaping up to be the BEST. YEAR. EVER.
So sorry that happened to you. Maybe the maintenance people will fix it correctly now. If only to avoid being sued. I hope it heals quickly.
Oh, !@#$ That actually sounds really scary ???? You smell gorgeous, though!
Oh no! Thanks goodness it was not more serious. I hope you are feeling better today and recover quickly. You smell wonderful though!
Wow! How scary. Glad your eyes are OK and no need for stitches.
Over the break I burnt my face around my jaw when I was baking and that was a bit scary too. Thank goodness it was low on my face as it went through a very visible process of scaring and peeling, but not in a good way. They say most accidents happen at home and there’s a lot of truth to that.
Yikes! Glad you’re ok!
Eye injuries are scary… glad you’re ok! I know makeup sometimes (in the world at large, not here) gets tagged as frivolous, but sometimes it’s really anything but
OWWWWW. Hope it mends quickly.
So far 2018 isn’t doing well in my house, either. At 2am on the 1st, the cat who sleeps on my pillow had a nightmare and slashed me across the eye, fortunately just below the brow. Nice cut. On the 2nd, same cat woke us up barfing in the middle of the night. On the 3rd, the two cats had a middle of the night tussle, with much screaming. On the 4th, earthquake. Hey, last night we finally had a 2018 night with no drama… yikes. I’m not one to see omens, but 2018 is not off to a good start.
I’ve been kicked in the face by the small dog that sleeps on my pillow, but doggie claws are less sharp. Hope the nights get calmer for you.
Ow! How awful. And that’s a seriously heavy sounding door! Hope it heals quickly. You picked a good comfort scent.
Waving at you from over here and telling you that I am having appliance hell too..
Vacuum motor died..not ideal with two kids..
Yup 2018! What a blast so far! At least none of them have hurt me, yet
Yow! Glad it’s just a flesh wound and not eyeball damage. Hope it heals up quickly and your year gets better.
OUCH! That makes me hurt a bit just reading about it. I hope that it has stopped hurting at least.
Ouch! Hope the healing goes fast and well!
Guerlain L’Heure Bleue . Happy Friday!
You smell beautiful!
You are twins with many people today…
Am participating in the always fun LPRN Black Perfecto. I wasn’t necessarily in the mood for it, but it has a way of charming me every time.
I’ve never smelled any of the other LPRNs. Are there any that Black Perfecto fans recommend? It’s this particular presentation of black cherry that I really like about it.
I would love to send you some decants if you’d like to try other versions. email me at madtolive88510 at gee male. how is everyone getting the Black Perfecto??? I’m jonesing for it!
I am going to buy it in Canada in April, it’s widely available there.
Duty free Barcelona had both the 50 and the 100 mL bottles!
I got it from a split! Apparently we need another split of this one. I wish I could get my hands on Iris Ganache for a split..
I like LPRN, even the flankers..
ditto on the Iris Ganache!
I like the current edp best, along with Perfecto.
The orig 2009 version!! ????????
I’m going to choose a colour and ‘put a bird on it’ to celebrate ..Blackbird.
I am in TF Soleil Blanc, something I usually wear in warmer weather, but it fits the Friday project and is smelling very nice. At least the sun is out where live, so that is making this one seem right!
In Bois Vanille. Vanilla’s a color, right?
Same colour as custard socks
Craving Profumum Dulcis in Fundo today, which is an orange creamsicle scent. So I’m going with orange as my colour of the day.
Love the Pantone colour this year! Just got a Lancome eye pencil in that colour.
I have that bright purple pencil too ????
Nom nom yummy!
Atelier Flou Black Purple. Talk about bottle porn! The weight, hinged cap and detail are incredible. Its wonderful spicy, slightly green opening has dried down to a spicy amber. Perfect for yet another day of nonstop lake effect snow. ????
wow! That’s some bottle.
I haven’t been here in forever – for most of my pregnancy I haven’t been able to tolerate fragrances, but I’m starting to now! Starting easy – with some Vanille Insensee. I didn’t care for it THAT much when I tried it years ago, but right now it’s very lovely. Making me desire to expand my vanilla collection!
Hi Sun, welcome back!
The Friday project two weeks from now is Vanilla… I bet you’ll get lots of ideas for new vanilla scents that week
Thanks Beth! Hope you’ve been well
Welcome back! ????
Was planning on wearing Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine, but then Toronto hit a record low this morning, so I went with I Profumi di Firenze Ambra del Nepal instead (I love Orange Sanguine as a pick me up in winter though!) So many great ideas here, I have ordered a sample of Black Cashmere and Bvlgari Black to try
You smell fantastic in Ambra del Nepal. One of my favorites ambers. I hope you like your samples of Black Cashmere and Bvlgari Black. They are great perfumes.
Thanks! I just got it as a Christmas present and I think it’s one of my favourites too!
Frederic Malle Alber Elbaz superstitious, from a decant. Bright bubbly sparkly. Really am enamored with this one. Could be a FB. Out of my last three orders, FedEx has lost two pkgs and destroyed another, so I’m weary of ordering anything. Which is a shame because I’ve had nothing but good experiences with them. TGIF
I am sorry to hear that and understand your frustration. UPS lost 2 of my packages with Christmas presents in December and it was a nightmare, since I had to run to the stores to replace the items. You cannot trust any of those companies anymore, including USPS. The quality and efficient of the service is becoming worse and worse.
Oh thank you ???? – I’m sorry about your Christmas gifts and hope everything was resolved for you!!
You smell gorgeous! I have fallen for Superstitious also. Sorry about the delivery problems.
What a bummer about your delivery issues. ????
Thanks – it’ll be fine. Really like Superstitious edp though!!
Joining the community project today in Hugo Boss’ Deep Red. Love that opening note of blood orange!
I used to wear and love Deep Red. Always thought it to be pretty unique.
I can’t think of anything similar in what I have smelled recently. This is one of the few scents where I have bought a second bottle.
Well I am kinda sorta participating today:Ex Nihilo Sweet Morphine is my SOTD.Have you guys seen the color of the juice?!It is a gorgeous pink hue.
Working my way through the line, but this is by far my favorite one!
Loving the Pantone Ultra Violet.Purple is my color!
Stay warm guys!I see your snowstorms and raise you a heatwave!#CrazyWeatherButLovingTheSwimmingPool.
Community project scent #2 for today is Olympic Orchids Blackbird, from a sample. Jammy blackberries with fir and cedar humming along underneath. And the juice is this gorgeous deep red/purple color.
SOTD was Shiseido White Rose. I would ask myself why I don’t wear this more often, but I already know why–it is expensive, hard to obtain, and I want to make my decant last.
Joining in late as usual for my after work perfume fix. I’m in SL Bois de Violette. A bit cooler today so I seem to be getting more violet than woods.
Love reading everyone’s choices for today.
Well, here I am late as well. Fortunately, my participation in all of this was to wear Habit Rouge, which I can still smell (the far drydown is my favourite aspect of this wonderful fragrance), some fifteen hours after first spraying it on… It’s my daughter’s birthday (and a very long workday) for me today, so this was just the cushion of civility I needed. Thanks for the idea!
