Britney, Elvis, Zidane, scented bowling balls

Posted by Robin on 15 March 2005 6 Comments

Wondering how Britney Spears' Curious rates against other popular celebrity scents? This article in the UK Mirror (link expired, sorry!) compares some of the big names, and concludes that Curious is "young and a bit sickly".

Elvis Presley's granddaughter, Riley Keough, has been chosen as the face of Christian Dior's new fragrance. Which fragrance is that? I don't know — they don't bother to say. (via femalefirst link expired, but it turned out to be Miss Dior Cherie)

French football star Zinedine Zidane has signed a contract with Coty to produce his own fragrance. (via Vogue UK).

And in the What Next category, Utah based Storm Products, the fourth-largest producer of bowling balls, has a popular line of scented bowling balls:

Storm Products' first scented balls — green apple and citrus — came out in the spring of 2000. Since then, the company has produced about 40 scents. The current scents are black cherry, chocolate, lemonade, plum, blueberry, grape, banana, cinnamon, orange, amaretto and cherry.

"It's just a real good feature of our equipment that gets the average consumer really hooked on our stuff," said Steve Kloempken, technical director for Storm Products Inc.

(Associated Press via Yahoo News link no longer working, sorry!)

Iman is the only one I'd be interested in sampling. And the Isabella Rossellini sounds remotely interesting too. The others sound just plain pathetic. Just because you're famous, doesn't mean that you are qualified to design a scent for anyone but yourself. I'll bet half of those women don't even wear their own fragrances.

I have heard good things about IR's earlier scent, Manifesto, but I've never tried it. Also ashamed to admit that I've never even smelled Curious! Can't get past the ugly bottle.

Probably for the best I think. I think I sniffed it at Filene's but I can't (or don't want to) remember what it was like. I wouldn't want to wear it, nor would I want my 18year old daughter (who stole my Pure Grace and brought it to UVM) wearing it!

Robin, did you know you're a link on Manolo'rs Shoe Blog?!?! Yes!

I used to steal my Mom's perfume! Now I have a son and I don't have to worry about it — he has shown no interest in fragrance so far.

It is a great honor to be mentioned by the Manolo! He actually posted a quick comment about me awhile back :-)

The Manolo posted about you?!? Wow! I'll have to look for that – do you remember when? Who the heck is writing that blog – it's hilarious!

It was about a month ago but I don't remember the exact date. He really is hysterical! I read him every morning.
