Bunch o’ limited edition collector bottles (& some other stuff) 2016, part 9
More limited edition collector fragrance bottles, with the usual disclaimers: in most of these cases, the juice is unchanged, just the bottle is “special” (or not, as the case may be), and some of these may not be available in the US. Today’s post includes collector bottles from Tom Ford, Sisley, Yves Saint Laurent and Thierry Mugler; plus a new concentration of Versace Eros Femme.
From Tom Ford, a limited edition of Black Orchid, with the bottle by Lalique (there was a version of this when Black Orchid first launched in 2006, and perhaps they are identical). $990 for (15 ml?) Parfum, available now for pre-order at Tom Ford…
Thierry Mugler Angel Muse ~ perfume review
Perfumanity would seem to generally agree that Thierry Mugler does better than most when it comes to flankers. The A*Men flankers, especially the “materials” series (A*Men Pure Havane, A*Men Pure Malt, A*Men Pure Coffee, A*Men Pure Wood and the latest, A*Men Pure Tonka) have plenty of avid fans. On the women’s side, I still find myself wavering, years later, over a purchase of the best-Angel-yet, Angel Liqueur de Parfum. Meanwhile, Angel Eau Sucrée, released as a limited edition again this spring (for the third year running), makes a decent young-slash-fun variation on Angel now that Angel Innocent and its various flankers-of-flankers are no longer with us.1
Angel Muse is the newest in the collection. It comes with a splashy ad campaign and hashtag (#HateToLove), and the perfumer, Quentin Bisch, talks about his passion for video games, so you know it’s geared towards youth. They are calling Angel Muse a ‘gourmand vetiver’, and I suppose maybe it is, but I’d call it a ‘gourmand vetiver Angel’…
Top 10 Spring Fragrances 2016
I am vocal about disliking spring. Where I live, there are always a few days in late February that feel like an elaborate set-up from Punk’d. Like newborn babes, they come: the office mates, friendly neighbors, the recently retired. They peer up into the warming blue and wonder aloud, trying to remember which way a hapless groundhog waddled weeks ago. Please don’t take spring’s bait. This year it snowed in April in the colder areas of Europe and North America and fans and news writers seemed to blame poor departed Prince. Let’s face it, in Minneapolis anyway, it usually snows in April. And snow can be the least of our worries. I am a fan of heterogeneity — I like mixed drinks and mixed company, for example — but few phrases freeze the heart faster than that euphemism “mixed precipitation”. Spring also brings wind, rain, seasonal allergies and skies the color of dead fish. Yes, the vernal months provoke a rare ire in me.
And yet, looking over my April 2011 Top 10 and Robin’s post from last year on pretty spring florals, I’ve realized I have little cause to be so sour while wearing some of my favorite fragrances. Clutching roots and branches may grow from stony rubbish, as Eliot wrote, but I have hyacinth, lily-of-the-valley, magnolia, violets and iris to console me until mid-May…
