Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Tonka ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 3 February 2016 17 Comments

Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Tonka

Thierry Mugler will launch A*Men Pure Tonka, a new limited edition fragrance for men, later this month. A*Men Pure Tonka is a flanker to 1997′s A*Men, and follows A*Men Pure Havane, A*Men Pure Malt, A*Men Pure Coffee, A*Men Pure Wood and A*Men Ultra Zest, among others.

A*Men Pure Tonka was developed by perfumer Jacques Huclier. The oriental fragrance features tonka bean from a conservation program in Venezuela, along with lavender, patchouli, vanilla and coffee.

Thierry Mugler A*Men Pure Tonka will be available in 100 ml Eau de Toilette.

I usually do pretty well with the A*Men flankers. Most are pretty well done, I enjoys most of them and they are fun to collect. I like the idea of this one, although lavender can be a hit or miss for me. The bottles always look great in photo but the real thing can sometimes look a bit cheesy (Pure Wood!)

I’ve liked many of them too, although Ultra Zest didn’t do much for me. Lavender was in the original, and I think all (?) of the flankers.

The Taste of Fragrance (chili) is probably the one I reach for the most but Pure Wood has grown on me. Pure Zest is a summer evening fav.
Pure Leather did nothing for me and Pure Havane… is nice but I don’t reach for it often

So Pure Wood is the only one I’ve tried and I wearied of it, is the best way to describe my reaction. I love the name and packaging so much— one day I should do a samples/decant order of all of them.

            They are brothers.
Original is the 20something party animal.
Pure Zest is the yonger, late teen, ADHD brother.
Pure Havana is in his 30’s, got a good job and a cool car while Pure Wood, in his late 40 early 50, runs the company with confidence.
I can’t wait to meet Pure Tonka.

Is anything not Limited Edition these days? I love tonka so I hope to try it in-store somewhere without resorting to buying a ginormous sample.

Seriously it does seem like nearly everything is LE. On the other hand, lots of these LEs hang around for YEARS, including many of the A*Men flankers.

Not so much with perfume, but the LIMITED EDITION marketing works wonders on me. I am so susceptible when I would otherwise dismiss the item in disgust. Honestly, if Charmin came out with an electric pink toilet paper scented like neon berries, if it was marketed at LE I would totally buy it. LE pumpkin pie toothpaste? I’m in. Oooh… that is limited edition Kellogg’s corn flakes with chunks of real corn? Got to have it…

Its embarrassing. My husband is chronically horrified by my collection of “seasonal,” “holiday” or limited edition dish detergents I have stored under our kitchen sink.

So funny. The LE label makes me pay attention NOW before it’s GONE.

    1) Everything is limited edition. Man, life is limited edition!

    2) Having said that, this sounds most intriguing, and honestly sounds unisex to me!

I only ever smelled one of the Amen frags – the orange star one – malt? I think, and I though it was pretty good. I think in general TM does a good job with their releases. This vanilla one sounds very promising.

If they would make a coffret of the various A*Men (and Angel) flankers, I would be hard-pressed to stop my wallet from opening.

Lavender scents with pronounced coumarin rock my boat! I didn’t like Pure Shot, Pure Wood or Ultra Zest – but there’s hope yet…

I will give this a shot. I am one of the few that doesn’t find tonka in scents sort of banal or pedestrian. This might be right up my alley! Gotta say, I did not enjoy the Malt or Leather flankers. So strong for no apparent reason.

Must have this in my life! I have loved all the A*Men flankers have been extraordinary for me (except the Chili one, didn’t like that one!) but this, sounds like it’s from heaven!
