Friday scent of the day 12/7

Posted by Robin on 7 December 2018 349 Comments

Friday is finally here! Our community project for today: pick your poison BWF...wear a perfume with tuberose, gardenia or both.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm in Tauerville Tuberose Flash.

Reminder: on 12/14, wear a fragrance by Dame Perfumery, Dawn Spencer Hurwitz, Divine or DS & Durga, if you have one. Partial credit for any other small-ish brand that starts with the letter D.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m wearing Un Matin d’Orage from a sample. Big white gardenia. Got to get back to sampling my samples. I seem to have accumulated a lot that I haven’t even tried.

I greedily try every sample almost right away. I don’t think I have any untested samples.

I almost wish I did so that I could show I’m not that addicted. “Oh, look here’s a bagful I haven’t even tried, maybe I’ll do that next month when I’m not so busy with my glamourous life…”

Same here! When one of my sample packages arrives from Luckyscent, StC or TPC (I’m a huge fan of samples), I’ll cover my arms with a tiny dab of each one to get a first impression.

It’s such a great scent. Are you wearing the EDT or the EDP? They are quite different.

I believe it is the EDT, from 2003. I know it isn’t the 2014 version, which I believe was the EDP.

The EDT is the one I have and love as well, gardenia, jasmine and no tuberose.

I am had a cold walk in central park this morning…around the holiday season I need to find ways to decompress so I don’t loose my mind.
So interesting at this time of the year, I was in 3 layers but saw 4 men running in shorts and a t-shirt. Good Grief!
Though I love being out in the cold when the sun is out, ever since I got pregnant the joint in my fingers hurt when I come out of the cold weather. So strange..
Tomorrow is Crazy Monkey’s birthday, she has gone 4 times around the sun.
Everyone have a fragrant weekend ahead!

Yes, it gives a concrete way for young children to understand the months of the year and the earth’s revolution around the sun each year. It also is a way for her to feel special and to connect with her place in the world.

I can only do LWFs (because BWFs give me headaches), and even then I need them to be in the chorus as opposed to singing the aria. I went with Chanel Cristalle EDP, and oh my god, why do I not wear this more often?? I want the entire world to smell this wonderful.

Good morning Y’all……Thank goodness it’s FriYAY!!! It’s been a long week….just 2 more weeks until school is out and my zoo crew can relax a bit…. :)

I just wasn’t feeling the big flowers today, so I went with a sample of Atelier Orange Sanguine, along with repeat layering of Grove Collaborative Bergamot Orange hand cream. I’m gonna add Orange Sanguine to my Luxury Scentbox queue….it’s really bright and crisp!

Have a great weekend! It’s gonna rain here in Atlanta, so I’m planning a weekend of reading, baking, and a generous nap or two…

Orange Sanguine doesn’t last but a few minutes on my skin, so not FB worthy for me….Maybe I could layer it with Demeter Mulled Cider for some oomph!

To my nose there was a difference. Orange Sanguine was refreshing true to life orange juice that dries down to a soft citrus musky skin scent. Orange Bitters was citrus with sandalwood/sweet amber vibe…not as succulent as the Orange Sanguine…I enjoy them both and they are different enough to me to warrant owning both.

I am in Elie Saab Essence No. 2 Gardenia. While it is definitely a white floral and has gardenia, it is much too soft for BWF. I am suprised that jasmine is listed – it smells more like gardenia and lily too me. It is a clean, dry, slightly powdery white floral. Pretty, but I think Gardez-Moi would be my go-to pretty gardenia scent.
I also have a feeling thta this gardenia would benefit from a warm weather and might bloom then.
I’ll keep wearing white florals next week – I am enjoying this!

And I want to quote the introduction to Luca Turin’s review of this scent, since I enjoyed it so much:
“The smell of gardenia is, in my opinion, an argument in favor of the notion that pollinating insects, despite their small size and generally rebarbative appearance, are in fact sensitive souls with dandified tastes not unlike those of the aesthetes among us. Why else would evolution put so much beauty in the smell of a flower? Note also that white flowers do it all with, so to speak, one hand tied behind the back since they do not even bother to use color as an attractant. I can just imagine a gardenia stage-whispering to a neighboring jasmine, ‘Did you see that rose? Is that red dress vulgar or what?'”

I love those reviews. The one in the earlier guide of L’Artisan’s Vanilia is still one of my favourites. “Enjoy it with a banana float, a sunburn, and really loud music. There will always be time for refinement later.”

I’ve yet to try those new Tauers.
My BWF of the day is the mother of all things tuberose, the great and to some daunting Fracas. Wearing both EDP and extrait de parfum. Prefer the latter, it’s darker and even moodier.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone! It looks like it will be grey and rainy here, I love the sun, but we still need the water, so the rain is welcome.

Not certain what I’m going to wear. Maybe Chanel Beige. It’s cold and rainy today. Several weeks ago, we had a freeze, and one of the plants to survive was my gardenia plant. And I even see what could be some potential flower buds, so I’m absolutely thrilled for this miracle. I’ll be sure to cover it next freeze. TGIF.

Advice I got from my vet, and it works every single time….When my Chewy is sick with tummy troubles, I hold his kibble and feed him canned pumpkin for a meal or two. The pumpkin helps everything move along, and gives him some hydration. And he loves it! Ask your vet how he feels about that…..It’s sure cheaper than a vet visit! :)

Thanks everyone. I cooked chicken with rice when I came home from work for her. I gave her a small amount along with medicine from the vet. So far she’s keeping it down. I will give it another hour and then give her a little more. The past two days have been hard on her so I hope a bland diet for the next several days will take care of it once and for all.

PSA: Ebay has 10% off everything. Code: PHLDAYTEN. No minimum purchase required. Valid from 3:00 AM PT on December 7, until 3:00 AM PT on December 8.

I wish I was better at describing scent lillyjo but I’ll try…
It is a kind of fruity floral, but nothing girlish about it. I get a sweet/tart plummy fruit and rich but sheer florals. A bit of spice? All on a grassy base. Purpotedly there is melon here but I can’t smell it. To me, it brings to mind a plum silk, if that helps. Try it, I’m just loving it and that’s all I can say for sure :)

No BWF per say: I’m wearing vintage Caron Infini in parfum concentration. It’s a green floral that starts with a (to my nose) whiff of jasmine, followed by a massive hyacinth and then iris & vetiver & sandalwood . . . oo-err . . . *eyes roll to the back of head*.

Infini reminds me a *lot* of Chanel No 19, minus the punch-you-in-the-face leather & galbanum & oakmoss. Fair enough, given they were both launched in 1970. My bottle is from late 1970s and came fully wrapped. I sort of feel sorry for whoever’s granny it was who never opened their little present :D

I’m sampling a nice little cheap thrill today: Jennifer Aniston’s self-titled perfume. It gets lots of comparisons to Child Perfume, but it’s much lighter and more scrubbed-clean, on a base of warm, clean musk. It’s nothing groundbreaking, but I’m enjoying it as a comfort scent.

Jennifer Aniston is mostly jasmine (and I’m wearing it over jasminey Neutrogena Body Oil), so I’m CP-adjacent today.

I’m so so tired after being kept awake by some guy talking on the phone in my apartment floor’s hallway and stairwell. Soundproofing is awful in my building and the stairwell is just on the other side of my bedroom wall. So we get all the sounds. Much coffee is needed, and I’m going to try very hard to leave work at 4 today since I’ve stayed late every day this week.

Rounding out BWF week in Carnal Flower. I’ve realized I need to space out my BWF wearings. I need a break from the genre after wearing them for 5 days straight.

I got my sample of St. Clair Casablanca in the mail yesterday so I wore one tiny spray of it last night. First impression is that it’s so gorgeous. It reminds me of a smoother Narcisse Noir with more modern ingredients and style. I can’t wait to wear it again this weekend and get even more familiar with it. And it’s very strong – 50% concentration!

I did the comparison and while not identical there is a definitive similarity to my nose…maybe the orange blossom…have to say that St. Clair Scents have a similar vibe to Sonoma Scent Studio…which makes me very happy.

Ugh. That’s irritating. I’m thankful our bedroom is basement level and actually under our neighbors yard so pretty quiet. Our living room is ground floor and near the building entry so we constantly hear the door slamming and people standing around talking in the hall. I’ve sort of gotten used to it. Sort of, lol.
Smelling great, though! And that Casablanca sounds good!

I sympathize with your apartment woes. I have an upstairs neighbor who likes to sing – very loudly and not very well – in the shower. I think his bathroom must be right above our bedroom because I often hear him while I’m lying in bed. I’ve gone back and forth about whether I should ask him to be a little quieter, but I don’t want to embarrass him or ruin his fun.

Hope you can get out of work early today!

Hmmm.. that sounds really nice, and if it’s at all like Jour Ensoleille I would love it.

Incredibly thankful that our building seems built to block neighborly noise. We do get loud conversations at the elevator, but it’s rare and short. Oddly enough, someone in the building likes to do vocal scales or professional singing. It comes through our bathroom vent. I find that pleasantly amusing.

My apartment is mercifully soundproof, but when the windows are open you hear a lot of conversations on the street, car radios blaring, and occasionally the neighbour singing opera.

I hope the coffee helped, and that you have a very peaceful night tonight.

My soundproofing woe: if I sleep in our upstairs bedroom, at 4:45 am I will always be woken up by my neighbor saying “Mochabelle, you need to go to the bathroom!”. Apparently that’s her labradoodle’s designated bathroom time.

Wearing a smidge of VC&A Gardenia Petale from an evaporating decant. Doesn’t quite smell like gardenia to me- maybe lily and some white floral melange. It’s nice and bright, though, and matches the sunny day.
Off today with not much planned except making up for all the food I didn’t get to eat for the past 2 days. My procedure went fine but ended up with bad cramps this am ?, so am taking it easy. Maybe a movie later. Anyone see The Favourite? Curious to hear opinions.

Wearing a couple sprays of Calyx by Prescriptives as I patiently wait for my new fridge to be delivered. It was supposed by be here last Friday but never got it; no email or phone call about the delay. I finally got through to someone late last Friday afternoon advising it was delayed until Nov 7th. I’ve never had such poor CS in my life. So frustrated!

I called this morning early to confirm delivery and have a ‘window of delivery time’ now.

My niece and I just watched Crazy Rich Asians together to pass the time. She was very sweet about it; said she felt bad that I had to wait around by myself, so we should spend the day together while the boys – her Dad and Uncle (my hubby) went golfing. We will get our revenge when we go to the outlet mall on Sunday! lol?

Thanks for the heads up!! When we arrived at our condo, we discovered the fridge not cooling enough after we shopped for groceries. Learned that the compressor is gone.

We own a condo at a resort; called the Management Office and got a temporary fridge for now (albeit, not a great one either). Since we own the condo it’s up to us to replace it.

This one was supposed to be in stock according to the website.

          1) I was considering investing a condo-tel on the Oregon Coast; this is one of the things I worry about!

          2) And yeah- there is a shortage of truck drivers/delivery drivers and compounded with the season things will be late.

    Hi All! Happy Friday!

    1) Am in Kai body lotion and perfume oil, from a travel set I bought last year at Nordstrom’s Rack. I also used the shower gel as well. I smell subtly and wonderfully of gardenia; being layered under wool and the cold weather makes what could be a big fragrance in the heat very tolerable. The body lotion sinks right and is not greasy.

    2) Am currently writing a business plan wit some other folks to launch an online beauty maagazine, ala XO Jane. So many moving parts, so many possibilities.

Made it to Friday!!! And just realized my eldest and Crazy Monkey share a birthday. He’s fifteen today and I’ll bake him a cake tomorrow. SOTD l’Eau d’Issey Absolue. My husband bought me this long ago in what must have been a moment of sheer madness or optimism, as I never used to wear perfume. Until this year when, because I love reading and often just buy books on sale -even if I’m not interested in the subject matter per se- I bought Alyssa Harad’s “Coming to my Senses”. I became intrigued by people’s decriptions of fragrances -pretty much as Alyssa herself described. Then blind ordered Ninfeo Mio after deciding which notes I would probably like if I were to dip my toes in the waters. Anyhow, l’EdI Absolue is not bad. BWF with notes of jasmine and tuberose. And apparently Freesia. Have a good weekend, everyone!

    SOTD = Serge Lutens Chergui

Massive fail on the CP but smellin’ fantastic, if I may say so myself.

Project No-bake Dessert on a Stick continues.

    – Either Mallomars (thanks foxbins) or store-bought macarons, covered with chocolate shell (the ones you add as ice cream topping), plus sprinkles. I don’t know whether or not the chocolate shell will stick but I may coat the macaron with honey or marshmallow first before dipping in the chocolate shell.

    – Dark chocolate shell studded with peanut butter chips

    – Rice Krispie treats from a kit (I think they exist?) and I will get creative with the decorating.

I need to experiment this weekend!

I think the chocolate shell needs the coldness of the ice cream to harden. How about chocolate ganache? If you tinker with the chocolate/cream ration you should end up with something that will stay on.

OK, what about “deconstructed fruitcake” as an idea? Up to you if you want to use candy canes for the stick, or not. Take poundcake and cut into cubes. Then get some candied fruit or dried fruit, and make kebobs on the sticks. Have crushed nuts on the side for the whole fruitcake fixings experience.

Skimming posts this week, I was relieved to read that I am not the only one for whom BWF is a least-favored category, especially with respect to tuberose, (probably my most-avoided note). I do like many jasmines – especially Songes – with an occasional LOTV in Spring and a bit of gardenia, but only in summer.

I thought I might be not be able to play today but am happy to report that I can: my SOTD is Canaica by Galimard, a souvenir of my tour through the Galimard perfumery in Eze. Haven’t worn it in awhile and I almost forgot I had it. Fragrantica describes it as a sweet oriental and lists its notes as top: lilac, caramel, ylang ylang; heart: raspberry, jasmine, tuberose; and base: amber and vanilla. It’s warm, caramelly goodness (I can only smell a tiny bit of the tuberose or any floral) is perfect for a sunny but very cold Friday.

Skimming posts this week, I also noticed that some of you are experiencing ailing/or the loss of family members, be they human or furry or feathered. Having lost both of my parents years ago shortly after Thanksgiving, and having helped numerous furry family members cross that Rainbow Bridge, I wanted to extend my condolences and hugs to you. I, too, think of these sad events at this time of year and miss those no longer present. But watching Little Bear scamper through our home, brave and fearless and bringing new life and energy, reminds me that new joys come when least expected and how important it has been for me to remain open to all of what life brings. So I hope not only that you find comfort in warm memories but that new joys await you when least expected!

I’m a double trouble BWF bomb wearing K de Krizia on my right arm and Jil Sander No. 4 on the left. Both are big shoulderpad scents loaded with jasmine, Tuberose, and peach, plus lots more. So far the Jil Sander is winning the sillage battle but maybe because the K is just EDT. I wore K a lot back in the day but kind of lost track of it. I bought my current bottle from a vintage dealer at a market but who knows how old it is. I’m about to go to the museum student art show which often has pretty good stuff for sale. I’m wanting to get out for a bit before our forecast deluge hits (8 inches?).

Suchgood choices, K de Krizia is a favorite, I went through a bottle in the 90s and have a bottle of EDT and a small spray of the extrait and I have the current No 4.

I chose Nuxe Prodigieux Le Parfum for the CP: lots of gardenia and coconut and quite delicious, it cheered me on a rainy day and I plan to continue on theme and wear the oil tonight, I coudn’t be without it.

Thank you and you’re welcome, Yasmina. The oil is such an effective product for dry skin.
If you came across Donna Karan Essence Jasmine, probably difficult to find now but it’s a beautiful, pure jasmine, not indolic. That Essence series with Labdanum, Lavender and Wenge was so good (sigh).

I’m rocking the OG tuberose BWF, Fracas for the CP. It may or may not also contain gardenia among its notes—depends on which perfume site you look at. In any case, I’m radiating its creamy floral glory on an uncharacteristically dark, wet day.

Waft on and have a wonderful Friday, NST!!!

Narciso again because I love it and I love gardenia. It’s not big, it’s creamy and deserves to be reapplied often.

I’ve probably mentioned this before (nickname is Rerun)…. but gardenia reminds me of my favorite formal outfit from college dances. Plain black (polyester) chiffon flowy pants and loose top with boat neck and cap sleeves. Instead of jewelry, I would go buy a single gardenia to wear like a brooch. I felt so chic. And I smelled so good.

Had decided on Oil Fiction from JHAG, but woke up with a headache, so failed at the CP…. Wore Montale White Musk instead and smelled like freshly ironed und starched laundry. Thanks to a triple espresso at work the headache went away in the afternoon.
Sampled Felanilla in the evening, which is quite nice.

Hello everyone! Thanks to all for the well wishes to my niece and her new baby yesterday! It was a very stressful delivery, and there are some complications that have them both under hospital care for at least a few days, but we are grateful have this beautiful baby girl with us. I had big BWF plans today, but ended up wearing Organza, because I love it and find it comforting. I didn’t even know it had white florals in it, until someone mentioned it earlier this week. Lol, I think the color fooled my nose?

TGIF! What a week it’s been.

If anyone missed my update last night, here’s a quick recap plus some additional info: my mom did have a stroke. She is out of ICU. She will require in-patient rehab for a while. Not sure if that is happening at the hospital she is at, or at another facility. Prognosis is good, but she does have some challenges ahead of her.

SOTD = the matriarch of BWFs, Fracas EdP. Thanks to jepster for this sample! That little dabber will last a LONG time.

I’ve gone for half-credit, in Bijan edt. It’s a floriental, rather than a BWF, but there’s definitely tuberose in it. The modern stuff is pretty great (especially for the price—$7 for one ounce at TJ Maxx), but I remember it being richer in the 80s. It’s nearly gone now, and I think Phoenix Botanicals Night Bloom will be my bedtime scent. It is a BWF, but orange blossom and jasmine rather than tuberose and gardenia. Will two half-credits make a whole?

    Happy weekend, everyone.
