It's Hump Day and Bittersweet Chocolate Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Hermès Hiris for the 2016 project 1 Star Friday. One man's poison is another man's meat.
Reminder: on 1/12, we're doing Rinse, repeat...pick a favorite community project from the past, and do it again. (If you need a reminder, here are the lists for 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Hermès baby blanket in "Animaux Pixel" print (100% cotton) is $510. Shown in Turquoise.
9/16 Harvest Moon Friday: wear a fragrance with a nut or grain note, Day 3.
Wearing Pour Toujours Graines. From Pour Toujours website: “The sensation of plunging both arms into a bag of seeds and suddenly inhaling their earthy, sweet odor.
Graines (“seeds”) because the formula is composed nearly entirely of seeds or ingredients that evoke them: carrot, cocoa, cardamom, barley, ambrette…”
My impressions: it kind of smells like seeds, but because of fresh, damp notes, I’d say it smells more like sprouted seeds than a bag of dry seeds (although I do not have a bag of seeds to compare). It’s an earthy, woody fragrance, with iris/carrots and something slightly spicy. It also fits the Oddball project we had – it’s a strange scent, and it’s like nothing else. Sampling it is really interesting, but I don’t think I would like to wear it regularly. I like its “early spring – nature awakening” vibe though.
That is not for me..money saved..and thank for the description
Hmmm..I’d like to smell it but not sure something I’d like to wear.
FM Noir Epices
I smell rather wonderful.
You do smell wonderful!
Yes you do smell wonderful!
Oh yes! 🙂 Lovely!
Again 6/14 Forgotten Friend: Kenzo Flower. A powder bomb that I have not worn in years and that I completely forgot how much I still like it. I wish I could make all my perfumes very visible and reachable…
I just repurchased this two weeks ago! Great memories.
Glad to hear you repurchased it. The perfume and the bottle are so beautiful. My bottle is still half full and it will probably last for a long time. If I ever finish it, I would definitly get another bottle.
I went to a jewelry shop once that had glass counters with automated rotating trays, like a chicken rotisserie. This is what we all need.
Wish I could have one of those….
As Tilda Swinton would say, Like this….

Thanks for the link. So many wonderful.options. The space is so limited in a NYC apt. I hope some day…
I love Flower in winter!
I agree. It is such a great winter perfume!
Kenzo Flower is BIG in Korea. When I was there in the fall, I scoured for perfume of course, but it’s not as big there. Almost all shops had Flower, however…
Interesting and surprising considering that people in some countries in Asia prefer light perfumes. Kenzo Flower is BIG with all capital letters. One tiny spritz is already too much, unless they dab it as I do, and still it lasts forever and ever…
I’m not much for the perfume, too too much powder, but I will never get rid of my bottle because I like to see it in my collection.
Kenzo bottles are gorgeous. Flower, Amour and their flankers are my favorites. Unfortunately, I do not have enough space to keep the bottles I finish. Otherwise, I would have them forever.
I have yet to finish a bottle! Maybe someday!
I might wear this forgotten friend tomorrow, Flower is lovely in cold weather!
It is! Always makes me smile!
No 19 poudre
No luck with the tea pot lid, the ones I found were a fortune to ship.
I will give it up and find something else one day , another elephant one maybe
I find tea pots like perfume, there are soooo many pretty ones. Maybe this is the universe telling you to find a new one. You could make your old one into a flower pot or something ?
Ah..good idea! Never thought of making it into a flower pot but that sounds lovely
That is unfortunate about the lid.
You smell lovely. I wish they gave No 19 Poudre its own name (such as.. Gabrielle 😉 ) instead of making it a flanker of No. 19, which is so striking it should be left on its own.
Have you tried this one?
I love it but it fades on me fast, what about you?
Ditto. It is lovely but becomes very quiet in less than an hour- which i don’t mind since that makes it a great office perfume 😉
I love No. 19 Poudre…it is in the same category for me as what Robin is wearing today…Hermes Hiris. Although I probably have close to 1,000 bottles of perfume in my collection, both of these are my go-to scents when I am confounded on what to wear.
1000 bottles..you are my hero! What are you other go to scents?
My other go-to scents are all my Aedes De Venustas perfumes, several MFK bottles (including Grand Soir), Guerlain, Serge Lutens (especially Chergi), FM Musc Ravenger (among others), Chanel Cuir de Russie, Bois Des Iles and Boy (among others). My special scents are several from Stephane Humbert Lucas, Vera Profumo’s Rubj, Onda and Rozy, several from Dusita, Parfum Empire’s Cuir Ottoman and Musc Tonkin, and a couple of Arabian oils and attars. Too many to even mention. I have been into perfume for a lot of decades and some of my perfumes I never wear but smell them from time to time.
Dang…. that’s awesome!
Continuing my Layering theme with Pacifica Breath Taking + Papillon Tobacco Rose. The notes list would read something like this: dark red roses, spicy tobacco, cardamom, and vanilla.
Hey, that sounds darned good!
Sounds great! I was looking forward to seeing what you were going to pair with TR.
That sounds like a fantastic combination!
I was going to wear Chamade, but since it’s bittersweet chocolate day, I just have to wear SL Borneo 1834. I have an old export bottle, has anyone recently smelled the bell jar version? I want to buy more but it was released in 2005 and has certainly been reformulated since then.
I’m waiting to hear the same answer about Borneo! I wanted a bell jar for Christmas but couldn’t justify it without smelling a more recent version.
the magnificent Parfums de Nicolai Rose Royale.
And you are reminding me of my forgotten friend PdN Balkis.
What’s that one like? I’ve been reading reviews.
Ormond Woman again (spell check wants to put Armando). I really like it. I want to find a floral-rose one I like this much for days when I am in a floral mood. Maybe someone can tell me what would come close to Rose Ikebana from hermes but more staying power. I already have a patchouli rose and I want to go the there direction, pretty, not spicy etc…
If you like Ormonde Jayne, have you tried Taif for rose?
Hmm nevermind – I think I misread your brief, Taif is definitely the spicy/complex kind!
OJ Woman is a beauty..
You smell lovely!
I’ve never tried it but what about that Comme des Garcons Grace Coddington rose perfume in the cat bottle…that’s a straight floral rose I think.
Seconding the Grace by CdG for sheer, citrusy rose. Or the inexpensive Pacifica Persian rose for same. Or maybe AG Rose Splendide-haven’t smelled it in a while but recall fresh, garden rose. I’m loving SL Sa Majeste La Rose these days. It’s heftier but still has a sheer, fresh, watery quality to it and good longevity fro the fresh rose category.
I think Armando Woman would be a great name for a scent.
You smell great!
Today I’m wearing Serge Lutens’ Borneo 1834. Perfect patchouli and coco combination for today’s windy cold weather.
sounds good for cold weather
I need to really try this one – I have only had a dabble sample
Perfection like hot cocao for a cold snap!
NOM
Gorgeous stuff.
What year did you buy your bottle?
I think it was approximately eight or nine years ago?
Continuing my Vol de Nuit signature scent challenge – today I have one spritz of the extrait divided among my wrists and neck, and vintage EDT on torso and insides of elbows. The EDT is either a mid-70s or mid-80s iteration (I can’t remember which) and is very soft. This combination with extrait might turn out to be my favorite way to wear VdN. We’ll see as the day goes on. Happy Hump Day, NSTers.
Gosh, I bet you smell amazing!
I love the first morning after I arrive in CA, when I wake up very early but feel rested. Slept on the couch (full house) but it is such a lovely feeling to wake up aware you slept really well.
12/4/15 was Incense Friday. So, I’m in Atelier Encens Jinhae. A sample from when it first came out, and I visited their boutique. In the store, I quite loved it. But then I cooled – temptation definitely went away. So I am going to keep dabbing this today. Maybe it fits in that category of like, then meh. Or, I’ll decide again I like it. Either way it’s not going to be a purchase.
Yeah, the time difference definitely works in your favor going west. Not so much coming back. I was mixed on IJ too. I liked it but smelled like things I’ve smelled before and not necessarily better than others.
LizzieB I am combining you w/Hannahmom and went with Serge Lutens Encens et Lavande, it is one of my true loves. I keep draining decanta, so it should become a FB!
Continuing with my Uncle Serge week.
Today is Rahat Loukoum. Almond cherry vanilla wonderfulness, although I will admit to preferring the Keiko Mecheri Loukoum to this one.
I prefer that one as well but I really like Keiko Mecheri Loukoum Parfum du Soir version.
Mmm, you smell great.
Challenge twin with Robin – I am wearing the 1-star Do Son. I re-read the review last night, and it seemed a bit petty, because it was basically saying that Do Son is bad because it is not Carnal Flower.
I think I smell great, and 5 students have complimented my perfume. Neener neener.
There are a lot of reviews in that book that seem to be mad at perfumes just for not being other perfumes, or not as good as they used to be! (It’s my main quibble with a book I otherwise adore.)
I do think people adore the books because Turin & Sanchez are not afraid to state strong opinions. IMHO you can’t have the one without the other — you’re going to strongly disagree with some of those strong opinions, right? I agree with quite a few of the 1 star reviews, but it would be weird if I agreed with all of them. The 1 star review for Hiris cracks me up — I especially love the “sad iris”.
That “sad iris” make me very happy.
That sad iris is my favorite fragrance!
I’d like to see a “sad iris” emoji. I think it would be adorable ????
Yes! And presumably sad rose, sad gardenia, etc & etc.
I think Do Son is a lovely fragrance.
Ditto
It got quite a bit of play and great reviews last year!
I’m finishing up my new vintage decants with Jolie Madam. It went on strong, but my skin seems to have eaten it up. Not much left after 45 minutes.
Is it extrait? I keep “rescuing” mini parfum bottles of Jolie Madame from ebay and most of those last on my scent-eating skin. I suppose it’s possible that the source of your decant just didn’t age well — all of my JM bottles are different but they are all fairly potent.
I have noticed that other vintage fragrances do not last long, though.
Vintage Jolie Manam is amazing stuff
So lovely! Especially the vintage.
Forgotten Friday project from a while back!French Lover par Frederic Malle. It was only after I suggested this as a gift for a friend for her husband, that I was reminded myself of this glorious woodsy Pierre Bourdon creation! And for once I am wearing something more masculine, which has become a rare occasion!Lol!
Happy Wednesday!
X
Smelling good Johanob!
Thanks!????????????????
I love french lover, you smell amazing!
(Yeah lots of reviewers consider it masculine but I wore the heck out of it last spring/summer).
Thank you!
I do think it is unisex with a masculine edge,if I really want to attribute it to A sex.
I always find it amusing that it’s labeled “French Lover” for the International market, and Bois d’Orage for the Americans. I wonder what that board meeting was like?
Yes,and why the two names?French Lover does sound more exciting to me anyway.Lol
I am wearing Caron Piu Bellodgia today and drinking a cup of black tea. I have amber incense burning also on this dreary, foggy day. I hope the fog burns off quickly this morning.
What a peaceful morning! What is Piu Bellodgia like? What incense do you use? I am a nag champa type
I’d describe it as a soft spicy rose/carnation scent.
I usually use Morning Star incense. I have some musk incense burning right now.
Both the fragrance and the incense sound lovely!
JHAG Romantina today, from a random sample grab. To me it’s a young pretty floral with a touch of chypre and something animalic that doesn’t make it too boring. Still, meh. I will go back to Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite in the afternoon.
Do u love Nuit de Bakélite? I’m hoping to get a sample soon, such good reviews!
Good morning Y’all….
Very light and easy in Thirdman Eau Moderne. In fact, 2 hours in, it’s nearly faded away…… 🙂
Great choice!
I’m combining Gender Wars with Fools Rush In by wearing a masculine that I bought within 5 minutes of smelling it – Louis Quatorze from Hove. It started off my current masculines kick and I do love it!
Oh, nice melding of projects!
Tea for Two for me today. Was on the fence about this one but now it’s full on love.
Stopped in Sephora last night on the way to a friend’s home to see if the new Atelier was available and it was not. They’re still promoting Cafe Tuberosa.
Tea for Two is a perfect winter perfume. You smell great!
They don’t even have it for sale at the Atelier boutique downtown yet. I did a quick drive by when I was in that area earlier today. They did have a behind-the-counter tester so got to try it. I liked it! Powdery, and a little rooty, pretty. Smells familiar, though.
I haven’t applied any scent yet this morning, but am still enjoying wafts of what I put on last night: Yosh Omniscent. One of the Forgotten Friday ones. I’ve been feeling a dismaying lack of interest in perfumes the last few days and was looking through some drawers for inspiration, something to make me feel a desire. I saw this one and remembered liking it. And I still do. I have it in the small oil bottle and that stuff lasts FOREVER. It’s very unusual with dry white florals and a lot of spice. I get cloves but there’s something else. The ingredient list includes opium, but I don’t know how that smells; maybe that’s what I’m smelling and liking. I had a $500 vet visit with one kitty yesterday. You can hardly get away with less these days if they have anything at all wrong, and with a few exceptions, my population of cats is an aging one, which means more likelihood of problems. Sigh. I got a nice check recently but it seems it’s going to go for plumbing and vets, not for perfume and diamonds!
At one time in the last decade, my parents had four cats in the house, all over the age of 13. (The cats, I mean, the ‘rents being considerably older.) Seemed like Mom was taking one or the other of them to the vet every week, or twice a week, and giving shots and pills and such every day. In the last two years, Callie, Rosie and Herschel crossed the rainbow bridge and now there’s only Buju (age 20). Dad is making “there will be no more cats in this house! all you do is take care of ailing cats!” noises and Mom is already upset, because she’d rather pay vet bills than be pet-less.
I hope your cats continue to be a delight for you.
Oh, I think she must get another one, maybe even now to help out when poor Buju crosses the Bridge. Perhaps they could get an adult cat more in the 5-year-old range so as not to deal with the health issues of older cats (at least not for awhile). So many sweet adult cats are available in shelters but get passed over for kittens, it breaks my heart. They had such a sweetheart at the vet’s yesterday, a big chubby orange and white female cat named Marmalade, about 3 years old. I spent time petting her and she was so loving and grateful. Yes my cats are continual sources of pleasure and comfort and entertainment, thank you.
+1!!!!!! Once you see them there you are never the same – EVERYONE should have to stop in! I will rescue again and more than 1.
I have to jump in to ask, Mals: were your parents (or the namer of the cat) astronomers or photographic historians? (I also have a Herschel cat)
We lost our youngest at Thanksgiving to cancer. Still have three. Our doorman showed me a video of a cat he rescued…apparently he spoke to my husband about us adopting her. I have this fear I will come home from CA, and we will be back up to four cats….
I hear you on the vet bill fatigue. I have one dog I’ve nicknamed the 6 million dollar dog.
I hear you on those $500 vet visits. Last year we spent a week’s holiday abroad for four on our sick cat. LOVE our cat, but I am under strict orders to not do that again. So, last week I ordered his meds from an online purveyor and save $50 in one go. Small steps!
Wearing Amouage Lyric right now and trying to forget about Myths woman. I really didn’t like Myths at all, the bottle and the green hyacinth were not enough to have me like it. I’m debating on if I should make an appointment with the eye doctor. One of my upper eye lids near the bridge of my nose is swollen and a little sore and I don’t know why. I think that a wait and see approach would be better.
Has anyone tried the Viktoria Minya Hedonist flankers? I see on Luckysent that they have the travel set. I don’t want to spend $135 on something I don’t like. I love the original but not so sure of the cassis one or the iris.
I have the Rose flanker, and I really like it.
The opening white wine note is shockingly good
SOTD is wear a perfume from an Italian house: Maria Candida Gentile Burlesque. Rice powder, womanly goodness.
It sounds really good!
I really like it and it lasts a long time!
Wild Kingdom? That’s me in Chinchilla, a holiday present from my husband.
You smell wonderful! I bought a roll on of Chinchilla for myself as a present, it really is amazing. Very sexy.
off project, in DSH L’etole de vison (mink stole)
I smell straight up mink at first, then it turns into a stole. very nice.
And I would guess no minks got hurt in it’s making.????
Not one!
Hey, but that fits Wild Kingdom (see Oakland’s comment just above).
Indeed it does, thanks!
Today I am wearing Escentric Moleules 4.
You smell wonderful!
Trying Penhaligon’s Orange Blossom from a small blind-buy decant I had misplaced for. . . oh, maybe a couple of years (embarrassed blush). It’s not soapy! Nice stuff so far.
Hey, most of us have been there! There are decants I may never find again.
I’m wearing Vitriol d’Oeillet today. I’m sure we’ve done a Serge Lutens day at some point. 😛
That blanket is cute but holy geez I don’t know that I would spend $500 for something for a baby. Unless it was going to last forever and be handed down and such.
I like this one but for a warmer day. You still smell nice.
I’m doing the build your own project challenge, and the project is Give It Away Now: if you’ve ever won a giveaway from NST, wear it! And I’m wearing Incense Flash 🙂
I never win, but you have good fortune..
Speaking of fortune…
My better half got the two baby Jesus in the Kings Cake over the weekend, did you get that, 2 of them . They put 2 in the cake and both of his slices had it. I wanted to take him to Vegas…
As long as he didn’t crack a tooth, then why not go for a getaway?
And now I’ve got the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing in my head….
ear worm!
Like many others this week I’m going back to 6/27/14 Forgotten Friend. I have a box of decants that hasn’t been pulled into rotation in a long time, so I decided to grab one at random. I would only wear the surprise perfume if it is seasonally and office appropriate. So I’m wearing Ava Luxe Bois Exotique. Yum, it’s so good! It’s a chewy amber oriental described on her website as “an exotic amber-woody fragrance with notes of sandalwood, patchouli, warm spices, and Siam benzoin.” I probably should have used just one spray because it’s quite potent. She uses a high concentration of perfume oils in her EDP.
Sounds nice! I’ve only tried a few Ava Luxe thst I got in a freebie meet, and they’re all potent edps. I quite like Bohemian Rose and if it were less sweet, I’d be tempted to add it to my collection of roses.
She’s pretty under the radar these days but has quite a few gems, including some that she no longer offers. I’m crazy for her Hong Kong Garden that’s been discontinued for many years now. It’s an aldehydic, green, powdery orris perfume.
I’ve written off Ava Luxe since I never got a response to an inquiry I sent in 2014. I forgive but I don’t forget and I don’t think I’ll miss one perfume brand.
That’s too bad. ????
SotD is Sarrasins!
Today I did some retail therapy and gifted myself a grey woolen designer sweater (Saint Laurent, huuuugely discounted of course).
Because of the situation with my mom, I did not have time to spend money with christmas (we did not even have had a xmas meal), so I saved up a few euros for a purchase like this. 😉
And about my mom 🙂 she is still in hospital (sitting beside her right now while she is eating pasta), but she is doing amazingly well again!
The fabulous and wonderfull news is: she does not need a transplantation (well at least for now, maybe somewhere in the future, or maybe not..). Also, we feel she might be able to go home within a week or so if nothing unexpected happens along the way. Yay!
Oh yay for your mom! And glad you got to treat yourself!
🙂
Wonderful news! I wish she has a speedy recovery and goes home very soon. Enjoy your purchase. You deserve it!
Thank you!
Wonderful news, Jiji. That must have lifted such a weight and worry from your mind. All the best
Yes I am so happy! But I also start to feel just now how tired I am from this whole rollercoaster ride.
How fantastic! I’m so happy for you and your family. I hope you keep getting more and more positive news.
Thank you 🙂
Terrific news! Must be a huge relief. Enjoy the heck out of that sweater! Many years ago I found a velvet YSL blazer (mens) in a thrift shop for like $20. I ended up giving it away since I hardky wore it-a little big. I regret it now. And of course, you smell fantastic. I think I’ll wear Sarrasins this week.
Aww I love velvet! Though I always hesitate to buy it…i am afraid I’ll look like playing dress up with my parents 70s outfits ghe ghe.
But velvet is everywhere now! Most brands have something velvet or velvet-y. 🙂
…and thank you, Sarrasins is great isnt it?
I have decanted a few ml in a small sample vial I can bring it with me.
Because of the deep purple color, the vial looks like a magical health or mana potion from a fantasy rpg game haha
Ha! It does. And I think my decant is evaporating so better start wearing it and stop hoarding it!
Hurray – this is wonderful news!
Hurray indeed! 🙂
That is excellent news!
It’s the best news of the year already 😉
WHAT WHAT WHAT HOW HOW HOW??? What a cracking good deal!
Hahaha, that was my reaction as well. I could hardly believe it when I heard it on the telephone. But seeing is believing. She is chatty, and smiling, and also, eating more each day.
Great news about your mom! And enjoy your lovely new sweater.
I already had 2 grey sweaters. I guess I like grey sweaters. 😀
Grey is the perfect color for sweaters for me.
White gets dirty too soon, black is not cosy enough for a sweater (I do wear black a lot though when it comes to trousers, blazers, blouses).
I was even eying a 4th grey sweater on my way out, but need/want to save money for other stuff haha.
Erhm ‘too soon’….i meant to say ‘white quickly becomes dirty’
When I am tired my foreign language skills deteriorate haha.
Wonderful news about your mom! Enjoy that sweater!
yay Mom! Yay Sweater!
Can we see the sweater? If you got it online of course..
Ha, of course!
Its a pretty simple sweater. But quality and fit is superb.. also..not made by small and underpaid children in a 3rd world country 😉
I found it in a department store but you can see it online on this site:
https://www.farfetch.com/nl/shopping/women/saint-laurent-classic-knitted-top-item-12192936.aspx?storeid=9675&from=listing&tglmdl=1
It does not look that good on that model though imo. (Weird pants!)
And of course that is also not the price I paid haha.
Simple but very chic and modern. Love the button detail. I also have a lot of grey. It’s just so easy and neutral and it’s not black!
Great news about your mom! And yay on a sweater!
Wonderful news about your mom, Jiji! I hope that she continues to progress towards her release without interruption. My mom said that the day she walked back into her house from 5 months of ICU and rehab was one of the very best days of her life. I’m sure that being home will only boost your mom’s spirits and her recovery.
And congrats on the sweater….you more than deserved it!
Thanks. 🙂
Yes my mother is already looking forward to ‘just sitting’ in the garden 🙂 thats her big dream/goal right now!
Wonderful news!
I’d describe it as a soft spicy rose/carnation scent.
I usually use Morning Star incense. I have some musk incense burning right now.
I don’t know how this got here. It was meant as a reply to lovestosmellgood.
Gigi, I am happy for your good news !
Great news about your Mom!
Fabulous fashion purchase!
AND you smell GORGEOUS!
Today you win at life!
X
Yes, enjoying every minute of it, and re-applying Sarrasins right now, because its so good! 😀
It may be too late for you to see this comment but just want to that I’m so happy for you and especially for your mother! What fantastic news!
I’m happy to hear the good news!
You smell Devine and Congratulations to you & your Mom!!!
I’m feeling a little more creative today. Wearing Gucci Rush, matching song “Bad to the bone” by George Thorogood. I’m pretty sure my current bottle is almost drained, maybe 2 or 3 more wearings.
B-b-b-b-b bad!
Great song.
Great perfume! I like it on sultry summer evenings. Very fun to wear.
SL Bas de Soie again. I think this is pretty much a 1 star perfume for lots of people but I enjoy wearing it…it does have a twisted hairspray vibe but it is one of those perfumes that keeps you guessing. It could possibly fit a bit of a ‘hot mess’ or kitchen sink category which just makes me like it even more…to me it’s like drifting in a dug-out canoe on a sluggish river through a steaming jungle under a canopy of trees filled with screechy birds and sloths while being bitten by mosquitoes…i.e. Life as usual.
Ha – life as usual. Cue Guns N’ Roses “Welcome to the jungle!”
I like Bas de Soie, too!
Me too. I get a more cultivated, English garden effect from it, though, rather than jungle. Still lots of growth tumbling all over the place, but falling out of beds and sprawling everywhere, rather than happening anyhow in exuberant outbursts.
Another fan of Bas de Soie! Love the hyacinth note, it is more cultivated English garden for me like Waterdragon.
Maybe the person in the canoe could be one of those forlorn missionary-wife types, surrounded by trunks, clinging to a parasol and a small case containing her precious English florals and scented hankies…of course, after 3 months she dumps the boring pious husband and heads off into the jungle to search for orchids and poison dart frogs?
Made me smile!
Or a Tarzan kinda guy? And she’s now wearing Salome….
To me, Bas de Soie is like Chanel 19 edt crossed with Guy Laroche Fiji, all of it pumped up on steroids. Nice and cool.
Bulgari Black. Which I love and am going to argue also fits into my theme of the week of misnamed perfumes (can’t recall the day) from 2016’s community projects. I would name this one Thé Noir (and change the Le Labo Thé Noir to Figue 29).
I’m also (as usual) reeking havoc because I have on remnants of Profumum Meringa as well as Profumum Ichnusa (which fits the 2016 community project Robin is doing today of 1 Star perfumes from The Guide). These are only samples, but I do love them. I wish Profumum would do more small travel size bottles.
You smell wonderful. Bvlgari Black is very nice, I should wear it tomorrow.
ha! Perfume names can be tricksy.
I’m sampling Le Labo Thé Noir 29 today. So far no black tea. It’s mostly a darkish rose and slightly sour vetiver, with no fig yet, but I’ll keep sniffing. 😉
Wild guess, perhaps wrong and sexist, that more men would buy it called Black and more women would buy it called Thé Noir? (I mean because of the tea reference, not the French vs. English)
You may very well be right!
Just remembered something for people who buy samples and have storage issues. Yesterday I came across a nice simple box that is designed to hold a selection of tea bags . It was in six or eight compartments with a clear lid. It was just deep enough for most sample bottles (upright…but not those tall ones) …the one I saw was Maxwell and Williams but that might be a NZ thing.
http://www.briscoes.co.nz/kitchen/preparation/maxwell-and-williams-bamboo-tea-box-1044417
You’d have to divide the samples into categories ( perfume house, notes, years of manufacture) for it to work
great idea! maybe with stiff card stock you could divide further
That is beautiful. Yesterday I just cleaned my cabinet of tea..arranged everything beautiful ..cleaned the inside with a cloth..it felt great!
That is impressive work. Our cupboards seem to attract grains of rice, tea leaves, chili flakes etc. Its a big job and like keeping paper bills and accounts in order one I always vow to maintain but never do.
I have this for my samples. Not nearly as cute as that box, but it’s helping me stay semi-organized.
https://www.planttherapy.com/soft-carrying-cases-holds-30-bottles-5727?v=1484&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIjd3Mu4zO2AIVw7jACh15mgRAEAQYEiABEgKXSPD_BwE (sorry for the long link, Robin).
…and I have 2 of these: https://www.amazon.com/Storage-Drawers-Jewelry-Cosmetics-Organizer/dp/B00PMS2AY4
I pull out seasonal bottles and decants and stand them on the top portion. The rest of my decants and samples are stored in the drawers laid flat. (I also store my jewelry in some of the drawers, so double-duty.)
Reviving 2016’s Woodfest Friday, and wearing Orlov’s Star of the Season, my favorite sandalwood of the moment. Kafkaesque classified this one as a fruity-floral, but thankfully for me, I get nothing close to that from SOTS. On me, it’s very definitely a sandalwood fragrance. I don’t get much ‘fruit’ at all (orange blossom is listed as a note, but I can barely find it). On me, it’s a slightly spicy sandalwood with some light, NON-sweet gourmand touches from cinnamon, a hint of cocoa, and a caramelled vanilla. There’s a dash of patch, but it’s not at all dominant. There’s a skosh of cumin, but from someone who’s sensitive to skank levels of cumin, this one is nowhere close to that. It’s a very easy to wear, unisex fragrance, and an easy one to reach for from autumn to spring, on work or weekend days.
I remember that community project!
Good morning, NST. I’m still not in the project, mea culpa. My samples from Bruno Fazzolari arrived yesterday, and isn’t it always the way that you buy something for one thing, and end up liking something completely different? I ordered them for the sake of Ummagumma, but I got no rich sweetness or chocolate from it, only very dry, saffron-tinged leather and labdanum. It’s nice, especially in the heart and drydown, but not what I hoped for. Instead, the perfume I fell heavily for was an extra sample that was generously included: Unsettled. I love its spicy, fruity greenness, and it’s still present in a soft whisper this morning. I shall wear it today and if I like it as much as I think I do (does that make sense?) I might just be buying it instead of Ummagumma. I also enjoyed Monserrat at first sniff. Interesting AND pretty. Lampblack is also very appealing, but Room 237 and Five were less so, at least at first play. Feu Secret is beautiful, but not what I’m seeking right now.
I was excited to receive these samples (you can probably tell that I greedily tried all of them immediately, like a chocolate fiend finding new flavours). They’re the first ones I’ve ever managed to receive from my own ordering, because twice I’ve had packages confiscated by Customs, which rather discourages sampling. I’m glad too I didn’t order Ummagumma blind, because I would have been disappointed and I wouldn’t have found Unsettled. It’s a happy perfume day, then. Be well, all.
That is a happy perfume day. I also hope you manage to spot a replacement leather jacket before too long
Glad you enjoyed your sampling and found one that suits you!
I ordered from BF, too, but not the sampler set as I had already tried Lampblack, Au Dela, and Ummagumma. I picked Unsettled and Feu Secret. They’re on the way!
Monserrat is sorely underrated, IMO. It seems like a simply citrusy floral but there’s a hint of fresh wet plaster in there that adds a cooling somethingness and makes it interesting, but not weird. I keep considering a bottle of that for the summer but forget as I don’t see it mentioned much. Enjoy your samples! Lampblack is my favorite but I have yet to try Unsettled…
SOTD is Assam of India. I was so excited to get a bottle of this yesterday at Anthropologie for thirty-five bucks! All of the Berdoues line is on sale -both in store and on their website- for 59.95 PLUS another 40% off that! I wasn’t wild about the other two scents my store had, or I would have scooped them up too.
It was too good of a deal to pass up.
CM8 gets an enabler pin for this one.????
WHAT WHAT WHAT HOW HOW HOW??? What a cracking good deal!
I know! I couldn’t believe they were on the clearance table because I feel like my store just got them in stock about thanksgiving time. If you’re near a store, check it out. They’re on sale online too.
Thanks 🙂
Oh man…. tempted. But, I haven’t had a chance to try the Berdoues sampler I got from Sephora, so this would be a blind buy. Must…resist…at least for today. ????
Nice buy!
Late to this. Am using up samples, so…
1) SOTD: New York Oud, from a sample, layered with Satsuma body mist. Loud as hell, perfect for clubbing and regrettable hookups. When used in tiny spritz and layer with Satsuma body mist, it behaves responsibly.
2) Bittersweet chocolate + cannabis: have not tried it, but I think this would be an intriguing home scent or personal scent as well:

Ha! Clubbing and regrettable hookups…..
Ah, to be in your 20s and in a major city in the 00s!
That Satsuma is so mouth watering juicy.
Tom Ford Fleur de Chine: one of the discontinuations that I do not understand.
It doesn’t matter how early you come to a dr. appointment, you always have to wait at least 20-30 minutes. Annoying.
I’m perpetually on-the-verge-of-lateness, but for my most recent dentist appointment I got there 25 minutes early. Patted myself on the back for being an actual grownup for a while, but still ended up waiting almost 40 minutes AFTER my appointment time to be seen. Doesn’t exactly incentivize patients to be punctual, does it?
I always walk right in on time at my dentist. If you’re not there within a couple of minutes of your appointment, they will call, which doesn’t make much sense since presumably the patient is in the car driving and can’t talk on the phone. And I really do mean within a couple of minutes – on the way to my last appointment I was a few blocks away at 11:03 for my 11 a.m. appointment and got a call (!)
Anyway, regardless of what time you get there for a cleaning, your appointment ends at the scheduled time, so if you’re 10 minutes late, your cleaning gets cut by 10 minutes. I guess that’s how they run a tight ship.
a beauty!
My new strategy for the one remaining doc I see who makes me wait (I’ve replaced all the others): I arrive, ask the receptionist how far he’s running behind and do I have time to run to Starbucks? Usually they say yes, and then I leave and come back. It’s still a waste of time, but I’d rather waste my time somewhere other than a doctor’s office.
SOTD Miller Harris Fumee Ottoman. Most days I’m up for an adventure in the sample pile, but some days I just want something I already know I’ll love.
A tried and true scent is a treasure. 🙂
Absolutely!
It’s Hide Your Credit Card Wednesday for me – wearing La Chasse Aux Papillon. It’s too pretty for a small decant!
You smell like a beautiful day in the spring. That is a pretty fragrance.
La Chasse was among the first scents I tried from L’Artisan, and I seem to remember it was the first full bottle I bought from that house.
If it wasn’t my first, it was close.
You smell lovely and sunny!
I bumped into a discounted extreme version in this online store
But I dont know how the extreme differs from the normal version

SotD = Le Labo Thé Noir 29
Interesting, this is how I imagined Bergamot 22 might smell. Big citrus to begin then quite aromatic, I like it so far. Hope this one will play out better than yesterday’s scrub of the musky B22.
Classical KUSC just finished playing The Typewriter by Leroy Anderson. I love that piece, the way the typewriter dings, the carriage returns that are so well-timed. The radio host, Alan Chapman, took a moment to explain to younger listeners that a typewriter is a mechanical device for creating written text like on a smartphone. I LOL’d.
Tried the Thé Noir the other night as I was buying a travel size Hinoki gel to bring to my sister. It’s very nice.
You’re a good sister. 🙂
I like Thé Noir best of the three Le Labo scents I’ve sampled this week. It started as citrus-cedar then changed to rose-vetiver. I hope the fig and black tea notes show up.
Layering in Commodity again today. Supposed to be an “Old Fashioned”….two sprays of Whiskey and two sprays of Mimosa. It’s already gone. 🙁 Wishing I had backup samples at my desk. I actually enjoy some of the Commodity scents (Whiskey, Moss, Book- mostly the Black line) but they are just so short lived I can’t justify purchasing any of them.
Happy Hump Day, fragrant friends!
You could layer with my scent, Encens Jinhae, to get the cherry in an Old Fashioned….
Another week that is whizzing by. Today I pick up two new pairs of glasses, having failed miserably at adapting to progressive lenses, so I ordered a pair of readers and another for distance. My SOTD is along the lines of Use It or Lose It, which we must have done at some time or another. Before I bought a bottle of MFK Amyris I got a decant in a swap. The juice has turned cloudy, so I thought I should use it up before it goes off entirely. I spritzed lavishly, but it looks like I have about one wearing left. It might be gone by this evening if I remember to reapply.
I wasn’t able to adapt to progressives either. I only need reading glasses but I was talked into two distances–for book and computer screen. Nope. Nope. Did not work. Felt dizzy and got a headache every time I wore the glasses.
I am hoping to be able to get bifocal contacts this year so I don’t have to wear reading glasses at all. *fingers crossed*
Just will add that I swore I would not be able to adjust, went back twice to tell them I couldn’t adjust (and to ask them to check again to be sure they’d made them right), they kept saying please wait, and then all at once I adjusted. But the 2-3 weeks it took me to adjust were just miserable.
Using my samples – trying to move the unloved, “bought the FB” and meh ones out via the freebie meet Today is Trayee. This one will probably be drained!
Revisiting a theme we’ve had on 6.06.2014 – wear something by Chanel.
I’m in BOY 🙂
I am doing the same theme
Hi twin 🙂
Theme twins except I was too lazy to look it up!
I have been enjoying Ummagumma since I treated myself, but today I have been cooking a smoked ham hock for split pea soup and now I think it smells like smoked ham hocks. I can’t un-smell it. I’m home today because my husband had a hernia operation yesterday and I thought I should stay home just in case he needs me. He’s doing fine, though, moving around quite well.
I got a Discovery set of Fort & Manle fragrances at the same time as the Ummagumma and wore Harem Rose for my “wear something with a colour in the name” project. It is a very anamalic rose that only lasted about 2 hours. But at least I don’t smell like ham hocks.
Hope your husband recovers quickly.
Hope your husband will be up & about in no time, and hope you will forget the smoked ham hocks next time you wear Ummagumma!
Hmm pea soup! One of my favourite winter dishes.
I hope your husband recovers quickly.
Wow, I’ll have to try my sample again. I only got powdery rose from Harem.
Today I chose Slow Burn Friday from 10/23, 2015:
“wear the perfume it took you the longest to love, or the longest to buy, or the longest to find.” The one that’s the longest to love would be Angel and I’m not in the mood, so I’m wearing SL Gris Clair, which took me a while to fall in love with. I relish it on cold gray days and today is perfect as it’s a bit warmer, gray and raining so the snow is evaporating into thick, wet fog. Yuck.
Bittersweet Chocolate Day, yay! I was able to indulge. Still rolling along in Deep Red. although I did glance longingly at a couple of untried samples today. Maybe my resolve is starting to waver?
Moonlight Patchouli and my sample of Diaghilev for the evening.
3/11/2016: Forgotten Friday
Completely forgot I had a decant of Divine L’Inspiratrice, and had never even tried it! So I spritzed a bit on this morning, and have enjoyed it all day. A really lovely rose.
SOTD = Chanel Coromandel
Why is it that spellcheck now acknowledges SOTD as word but if I sonehow misspell Chanel, it doesn’t know to include Chanel as the word I may have been trying to spell?
Thanks for your well wishes yesterday. I woke up this morning all refreshed and ready to take on the world!
I haven’t done a Commuting Woes comment in a while so this count may be off.
Commuting Woes No. 402:
An accident waiting to happen – walking to the train station, with the ground slick with melting snow, the woman in front of me seemed to be limping. When I looked closely, she was walking with one foot placed directly in front of the other (instead of one step parallel) AND she was texting! When I see sonething like this, I sometimes wish such a person would slip and fall, have a wardrobe malfunction, not get hurt but be embarrassed and be taught a lesson!
06/27/14 Forgotten Friend: SOTD is Oha. I had planned to wear Vega, but couldn’t find my decant, and didn’t have time to dig out the bottle. My Oha bottle was handy and the decant was right on my dresser. I figured it was asking to be worn.
This is one of my favorite perfumes, but I hadn’t worn it in ages. Actually, I hadn’t been wearing perfume much at all for quite a while. I am finding that for some reason perfume seems to last longer on my skin than it used to. I always had perfume-eating skin, and even supposedly long-lasting scents would disappear after 3 or 4 hours, but that seems to be changing. I didn’t need the decant I tossed in my purse–the 3 spritzes I put on at 7 AM were still clearly discernible 10 hours later. Has anyone else experienced this? I am wondering if menopause has anything to do with it.
Or you now have a more acute sense of smell!
I was thinking the same.
I had that thought, but my sense of smell doesn’t seem to be all that great for other things. One way or another, something has changed.
Could be that your skin is more oily, or has changed in some other way. Hormones can also affect other aspects of your sense of smell and the natural smell of your skin, too.
Not sure if this category exists but I am wearing a perfume named after wildlife, Box of Eels. ???? Unfortunately, I do not have an eel emoji
I should have checked the comments before posting. My SOTD fits in with Wild Kingdom, and wear a fragrance by Chanel. Ha!
