The first Friday of summer! Our community project for today: wear one of your "top 10 of summer" fragrances (unless it's winter where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of winter" scents).
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm wearing good old Parfum d’Empire Azemour Les Orangers, from my own Top 10 of Summer 2012 list.
Reminder: 6/30 will be Bottle Porn Friday...wear a fragrance that you bought because you were drawn to the aesthetics of the bottle, or just wear a fragrance from a bottle you think is perfect. Suggested by chocolatemarzipan8.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I am in Atelier Cologne Orange Sanguine, another summer favorite. If I have to choose my number one summer perfume that would be Chanel No.19 EdT. Always perfect. Happy Friday everyone!
I have a travel size bottle of Orange Sanguine that I really enjoy. It layers nicely with anything else citrus, too.
No. 19 edt is one of my very favorite perfumes ever and you’re so right, it’s perfect for summer although I wear it all year
No. 19 in all versions is wonderful in all seasons. I usually wear the EDP and 19 Poudre for colder days and the EDT in summer.
Not that you need more 19 options (or maybe you do ) but I just bought a (vintage) bottle of the spray cologne for summer. It’s greener and crisper than the edt (which I also love.)
Oh, that is a temptation! I think I will need to give a try to the vintage. I always succumb to 19! My weakness!
I’d be happy to send a bit so you can try it out.
I almost wore OS as well. You smell great!
Thank you dear! you also smell fab in Eau Sauvage.
You smell great! I love Orange Sanguine.
No 19 is always perfect! I love it in hot weather – especially at the end of summer. It smells a lot like a field of sweet hay to me.
19 is unique and beautiful. Isn’t it?
Smelling great in Orange Sanguine, you are!
Thank you! You also smell wonderful in Terracotta. One of my summer favorites.
It is gorgeous, isn’t it?
You are early today, Robin, and I love your scent. I’m wearing Foin Fraîchement Coupé, which is both odd and great in summer, plus it smells of summer, if that makes sense.
Up with the birds this morning — I could have used another hour of sleep. But hey, we both smell like high summer!
We most certainly do!
You smell like a Van Gogh summer painting!
Ooh, that sounds very enticing. I think I might need to sample that one.
I love thinking that I smell like La Moisson, my favourite Van Gogh. I bought this one blind after receiving 8 samples from Oriza L.Legrand that didn’t include Foin. No regrets. It’s slightly weird and utterly wonderful, wearable and comforting. Like the smell of real hay.
I’m vacationing this week on the Outer Banks, North Carolina. Wearing AG Vetiver Cologne at the moment, but I’ll be swimming in the ocean soon this morning so my scent will be salt water (definitely a summer favorite).
I agree, salt water scent is the best ever! Enjoy your swimming and your vacation! Looking forward to a short trip to the ocean soon.
Yay, lucky you! Enjoy the vacation.
Enjoy! It’s so humid here today thst a jump in the ocean sounds so refreshing right now.
I love AG Vetiver cologne. And I always wish that I’d bought the original AG vetiver too.. I can see it being perfect for the beach.
Such beautiful place! Enjoy the water & sunshine
The pool in our apartment complex is a heated saltwater pool, and every time I accidentally inhale or snort some, I’m transported to splashing around on a beach in HI (the only place I’ve found consistently high water temperatures). Much better than reeking of chlorine–though, as effectively germ-free? I have my doubts.
Ooh, I’m so envious. I’d love to have access to a saltwater pool. I’d be up for the sanitation tradeoff, as the smell isn’t the only downside of chlorine.
The leasing office made a big deal of telling us how good the saltwater would be for our skin and hair. No evidence of that so far, but at least it’s not as awful for my hair as chlorine I’ll agree with you until I get sick from one of the nasty children.
Ya, apartment pools are always a bit dodgy that way :/ But the hair and skin damage from chlorine are, too. Clearly the solution is to have one’s own saltwater pool.
As I live in the Bay Area, I won’t be exploring that solution until I am a gazillionaire.
As I won’t be a gazillionaire in any city, any time, I’ll only be exploring community pools. Chlorinated and indoors, as that’s all I really have to choose from. *sigh*
Oh, good choice Robin! Tropical depression Cindy is passing over. It’s damp outside, to say the least, and not very summery. Still, I’m wearing my beloved Nuit de Tubereuse. It was released in 2010 and has brightened my summers ever since.
You smell fantastic!
Twins! I love big white florals in summer. We smell fab.
You smell great! Love the spice in it. Makes it a “different” tuberose.
Yes, I think it’s the pink pepper that cuts through summer humidity and heat.
Yay for Friday! Also happy Father’s Day to those who celebrate it today.
Who cares if it rains if you smell like an orange grove?
I’m wearing Azemour, just like Robin.
It really is one of my top 10 summer fragrances.
Hi sister in l’eau
I never write ‘lol’, but – lol. ;^)
Oh HA! It took way too much brain power to finally get this. derp
4711 Acqua Colonia Lavender and Thyme, which amps up the green/herbal aspects of lavender. Light and close to the skin but lasts for hours, so it’s perfect for summer.
This the 4711 Acqua Colonia I’d like to try. Thanks for the mini-review, sounds good.
L’Artisan Seville l’Aube for me, that bitter orange opening is so good!
You smell great! Seville is another summer favorite for me.
Great choice, you smell wonderful!
Okay, now you’ve made me wonder… I think of SaL as a winter scent as it’s mostly incense on me, not orange blossom. After Cindy passes, I’ll have to try it!
Same (and good to know I’m not the only one!) I tried wearing it on a summer day as it’s so often mentioned as a warm-weather fave, and it was not a pleasant experience. Same goes for Orange Sanguine, which smells like Christmas to me, and was horribly oppressive in the heat.
Stay safe in the storm!
Thanks! I’m for sure not going out in it – mainly Biblical, epic rain, although some tornadoes south of me.
I love Azemour Les Orangers!
I am in Jo Malone Tuberose Angelica, which isn’t a summer top 10 but works well with the cool summer morning and my current dark mood (work issues). TGIF
Cheer up! It is finally Friday and you smell fantastic!
Thank you, you too! I have cheered up considerably now that I am only an hour away from the weekend
You’re wearing the one I wanted to wear today! I didn’t have it at my fingertips though, sadly. You smell great and I’m jealous!
Thank you! It’s a great scent isn’t it
I’m in OJ Champaca which is a new favorite warm-weather perfume this year. Citrus, champaca, basmati rice, and tea. More of an ambience and very calming. Happy Friday ????
Also, we’re planning a trip to Hawaii and wondering which island to go to for those thay have been. Looking for less touristy with lots if natural beauty. Any recs welcome!
Kauai, hands down. My sister lived there for 14 years, and I spent two weeks with her in 2007. I totally unplugged while there; biggest decision each morning was which beach to go to.
The main road does not completely circle the island, which helps with traffic. And it is just gorgeous. Lots of options to hike if you want, snorkel, take a helicopter ride to see Kalalau, or just watch the water. Hope this helps!
Yes! We were debating between Kauai and the Big Island. How great for you to have had a reason to visit, and maybe free lodging ????
The big island is wonderful too, but Kauai is more lush and secluded.
I was looking at Tripadvisor photos and I thought the reverse, but hard to tell from people’s vacation photos. Lush and secluded= perfect.
I went to the big island a few years ago and LOVED it but I look forward to trying out Kauai someday.
Agree. Kauai. Spent most of my honeymoon there and have gone back more than once. My sister lived in Koloa for a year. We have stayed on the north shore (wet side) past Hanalei as well as in Poipu (more touristed, but very family) and up into west shore (dry side) outside Waimea. There is nothing like sitting in the water in Hanalei Bay and just drinking in the scenery. Agree the hiking is great. It’s a magical place.
I think I’m sold in Kauai, then. Sounds beautiful.
You know I love Champaca! You smell divine.
I’ve never been to Hawaii but have a close friend who is from Hawaii and he says Kauai as well.
Thank you! I think Kauai is the winner.
Enjoy your vacation
Central Park smelled like gorgeous this morning if you get a chance to pop over
I don’t think I’ll have the chance, unfortunately. Looks like it’s about to rain, too!
Oh boy I wish I could!
For what you’re looking for – hands down Kauai. A couple of things to keep in mind though: it has much more rain than other islands; you’ll need something from mosquitos and look for a nice beach close to where you plan to stay because Kauai has a much rougher water, you can’t easily swim everywhere if waves are slightly stronger. But a very beautiful island. And great fruit and fish. Be sure to find farmers market time and places.
SOTD is .vero.profumo “Rubj EdP”.
Top: bergamot, mandarin, passionfruit and neroli;
Mid: orange flower, tuberose, basil and cumin;
Base: cedar, musk and oakmoss.
I’m not fond of neroli, nor of orange flower, nor of this perfume. Harrumph. ;^)
That was all OB (orange blossom) and BO on me ????
Yes. Loved the extrait, the edp was straight BO.
I had the same results.
This one is fantastic oranges blossom on me.
I’m quite a fan of the EDP and have a FB, although I haven’t tried the others. I find it very unpredictable, sometimes it’s almost all cumin, other times not at all.
I am in Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt. Nice, fresh, summery. But very quiet, almost a skin scent.
It is a nice scent – you can def. smell the JM DNA in it.
Perfect for summer – I wear it to yoga class.
Yes, it’s very JM style, and it’s a good candidate for ‘sports scent’ challenge in a few week.
And I accidentally found that it layers nicely with BOIS 1920 Sandalo e The (though BOIS definitely dominates). I went out to get my latest order of decants and as I was unpacking it I found out that the lid of the complimentary sample of Sandalo e The did not close properly – by spilling it (mostly over myself, fortunately)! It was a tiny ‘one application’ sample, so I drained the vial. The resulting combination is spicy, salty, woody and subtly herbal. Very nice for walking in the rain on a moderately warm summer day (like today). (Would probably be too spicy on a hot and dry day.) My only criticism is that SeT seems to have too much caraway for my liking.
One of my favorites as well. You smelled nice!
Triple strength coffee.
Shalimar Parfum Initial.
The Shalimar for people who don’t like Shalimar.
White musk, tonka beans, orange blossoms, vaguely lemony citrus.
I don’t hate it, but i will avoid it the next time it tries to chitchat at a cocktail party. Yawn……
Carpe Diem. Peace.
To me this is very similar to Dior Homme. What do you think Bear?
There is iris in both, the Dior Homme has some cocoa, the Guerlain, orange blossoms.
Both are somewhat powdery.
I like both, just not love.
It is very humid today, so SPI is an easy scent for the weather.
I’m up for trying any version of Shalimar, but I had the same response to the Initials.
Azemour has really grown on me – one of those that I gave several second chances to because you all loved it so much, and now I love it too.
I’m in Diorella! Which the first time I smelled I was like oh daaaaaang I’m gonna wear this all summer, and lo I did.
I like the use of “daaaaaaang” and “lo” in the same sentence.
Vaguely lemony FLORAL
not citrus. Duhh.
Ghost in the Machine, definitely.
This should be a reply to my post……..
MORE TRIPLE STRENGTH COFFEE. STAT! !!!!
One step closer to summer in Galop ( thanks to Waterdragon ).
galop is in my summer list
you smell beautiful!
SOTD: Epice Marine.
It’s getting so hot so fast and don’t even mention the humidity!
Love epice marine. It’s good in winter, too.
Probably my scent for the summer
New bottle arrived yesterday
Yay! How do you like the edp?
Yay! You smell wonderful.
Songes is very beautiful during summer!
I can’t tell the difference between the EDT and the EDP , which is a good thing!
The bottle is gorgeous..
Oh, whew! I fell in love with Heure Exquise edt and bought a bottle of the edp, assuming there wouldn’t be much difference. Unfortunately for me there is.
FriYAY!! FriYAY!! Tomorrow I’m gonna sleep in until I naturally wake up, for a welcome change of pace!
Summer scent today: Escada Born in Paradise. Fruity floral, nothing more. Good for hot sticky days when anything else would slap your face!
I’ve been eyeing a lot of those fun Escadas but am overwhelmed and can never decide which to try!
Truthfully, they all kind of smell the same after a while! LOL!
I debated a dozen choices this AM, and then went for Aromatics Elixir. I am a big pile of sparkling herbal oakmoss, and I love it.
Doggy Update – I looked over at the couch last night to see the “Foster with intent” dog sprawled out on the sofa, all 4 paws in the air reaching out to touch Ollie ( in my Gravatar).
My heart gave a little thump.
So sweet! You paint quite a picture of your pups.
Awh. So sweet!
Oh, puppies puppies puppies! We have a cat but my husband really wants a dog, and cute tales like yours are helping to melt my heart.
I love this <3
aqua allegoria pamplelune
Took the auto train from D.C. To Orlando overnight, so it’s hot and no shower yet….pamplelune seems perfect!
I’ve always wanted to take the auto train! Is it great fun or general misery?
I love the romance of the dining car and lounge, I love the pace and the price.
If you go, I would bring extra blankets to cushion the seat/bed. I understand the sleeper cars are not necessarily worth the expense. And, maybe a sheet you can use as a privacy screen. I don’t think the extra $50 to get your car 1st is worth it either.
It is great having your own car!
Thank you! I don’t know if I will ever go but who knows. And now I know the tricks, thanks.
perfect choice! I have a mini of this gifted to me from the lovely She-ra. I need to try it on a hot day this summer.
It is really great In the heat ???? And I am pretty stinky
I love AG’s Pampleune – one of my summer favorites.
Have you tried the Mandarine Basilic? It’s a very close dupe to AG’s Eau de Camille.
No, neither! I’ll add them to my list
Woke up to a gorgeously quiet and rainy Friday summer morning. I thoroughly enjoyed a few peaceful minutes drinking coffee on my porch as the rain fell through the trees. Perfume is Le Labo Iris 39.
What a peaceful description of your morning.
Same weather here, I love it.
Sounds like a blissful morning. And you smell wonderful!
I would love a nice quiet rainy morning! They always put me in mind for a vetiver fragrance.
Fabulous start to the day. May you have many more like that
That sounds just lovely; and you smell fantastic! Love Iris 39.
Wore a combo of Tuberose Angelica and Orange Blossom for my walk with the pup this morning. Post shower it’ll be Flowerhead.
You smell great! If those two Poptastic LE bottles ever come to north america they’re mine. Found some on ebay but they are way overpriced.
Oh! The Jo Malone website sells them, I snagged them the first day they were available, they are so cute! (It was actually during the “Just because” promotion they had going)
I just asked, they sold out on the website already.
I also asked my SA, and she said they’re not coming to the boutiques in the US. They were only online and in Hawaii duty free.
How odd – I thought I was on their email list, but never saw the announcement. Oh well!
They sent the email to me on June 13. Apparently, they sold out within three days.
You smell great!
I waffled among Azemour, Mediterraneo, 19 and Eau des Merveilles this morning, but in the end my hand reached for AdP Iris Nobile EDT. So beautifully refreshing! I also have a little osmanthus note wafting around me, from the shirt that doubles as my “bathrobe” on hot mornings – for some reason osmanthus lingers longest in my wardrobe. Hm. Anyway, tomorrow it’s supposed to get close to 100 degrees here, and THAT’S when I’m breaking out the Mediterraneo. And respraying. A lot.
Love Mediterraneo. Thought about wearing it today.
Hooray for Friday! My summery pick for today is a combo: Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse + Marc Jacobs Cocktail Splash Ginger.
Ginger ale, rhubarb, and tropical orange blossom.
I smell like one of those beachy drinks that comes with a straw and a paper umbrella.
That sounds like a delicious combo.
Top ten summer
1. Assam of India
2. L’Eau a la Folie
3. “Minions” cologne
4. Vanira Morrea
5. Un Ete en Provence
6. Calyx (Prescriptives version)
7. Nocturnes de Caron
8. Dame Citrus Man
9. e.o. blend of yuzu and osmanthus
10. e.o. blend of orange essence, orange blossom absolute and bourbon vanilla
Your e.o. blends sound wonderful!
Easy enough to make…I would encourage everyone to explore blending.
You do! Count me as one already encouraged.
Thanks for your list!
I just realized I put it in the wrong place-LOL!
I always think Assam as being your signature scent
In some respects it really is because I wore it DAILY the Summer of 2016… and the funny thing is now whenever I think of Songes I think of you
AH! well these are good associations <3
Orange and vanilla sound a fantastic combination, almost like madeira cake. Yum. I need both, NOW
Profumum Roma Dulcis in Fundo smells just like that, an orange creamsicle. Yum!
Oh that is one of the best combos around! I would encourage you to explore making a combo to your liking with essential oils!
Lush Vanilia. It’s winter here, and its almost salty richness warms my chilly bones. These Lush tins are so much fun!
They are! I’ve got Lush Lust in one of those cute tins.
Lust is so good to have at one’s purse! I end up wearing a little bit of it quite often. And now I want the violet one and Smuggler’s Soul. Gotta pay them a visit.
I recently tried a hair product that smelled like egg nog/ custard pie, nutmeg vanilla . Think it was called custard head. They gave me a sample and it did nothing as a product but smelled happy
Wearing Vetiver pour Elle. Evidently we are actually going to have summer this weekend – we shall see!
I had my doubts as well, but it seems to be shaping up as predicted in Seattle. (YAY!)
Well, Elisa P settled it for me this morning with the subject of Hawaii. Bronze Goddess with Plumeria Flower Water (from Kauai) sprayed on top. I’m not just any beach. I’m a beach in Hawaii.
Some cleaning to do, then shower to head to the goddaughter’s HS graduation and dinner celebration after. The graduation is at the Barclay Center. I was warned by the mom to bring a book. Will decide between OJ Frangipani and Seville a L’Aube. The OJ has become one of my top go-to summers.
I do SO love Frangipani. Enjoy the graduation and try not to get too bored.
Happy to inspire ????
Bring a book, lol. I’d agree. Hard to maintain interest in those ceremonies.
I love Frangipani, too. I sprayed some on the other eve and the lime was so tart and real it made my mouth water.
I wish I’d been able to bring a book to my HS graduation. Enjoy the celebrations after!
A little after 6 pm (Started at 3:30) I’m surfing while the diplomas are being handed out. We are getting closer… Our girl is one of the last of about 1350 kids. Good news is a concession stand was open so my husband got hot dogs and popcorn for us. Benefits to being in a sporting arena.
Arielle Shoshana edP. So fruity! My sample is vanishing very fast — I may have to consider a FB. Which, given the dearth of things one would consider “fruity” or “fun” in my collection (I tend towards incense and florals) is seeming like a better and better idea.
You smell great. Go for a FB and enjoy it with abandon all summer.
you smell great!
I’m wearing Demeter Tomato. I love the initial tomato blast, that calms down to a light spice.
Tomato is a goodie!!
So does Demeter Tomato smell like the tomato fruit or the tomato plant? If it smells like the plant, I’m in!
It smells like the whole thing, leaf, stem, fruit. The initial blast is very whole tomato plant. It calms down quickly to just the tomato leaf. Today I must not have applied enough, because the drydown scent is mostly absent. Remember that Demeters are colognes, so often more needs to be applied.
Thanks for the mini-review!
Wearing Chanel Eau De Cologne EDT. It’s very fleeting, but quite refreshing during “swamp like ”
All my perfumes are my favorites. I’m wearing Roma Imperial today because I haven’t worn it yet this summer.
You smell wonderful!
Well I was going to wear either Orange Sanguine or OJ Frangipani or Osmanthus today as all are great for summer but the Eau Sauvage from a few days ago was still calling my name, so that’s what I’m wearing.
good choice! have you pulled the trigger yet on a bottle of Philosykos?
Not yet! I’m still hoarding the last few sprays of my decant, trying to hold off on spending the money! The struggle is real!
SOTD is my summer favorite: PdN Eau Exotique. How I wish they still made it!
Such a great scent! I might join you later today.
Ditto. I used to have this one (and wish I hadn’t given it away).
SOTD: Fendi Theorema Esprit d’Ete. Light, creamy orange-jasmine loveliness.
I’m not on theme today because I wanted to play with my new oils. So I’m wearing al-Rehab Balkis today. It kind of reminds me of Givenchy Pi, but there is a note in Pi that always reads a little off to me and Balkis doesn’t have whatever that is.
SOTD Bronze Goddess Body Butter (lotion?) straight outa the fridge, ’cause it’s summer and I’m back in the sweltering swamp.
Got home Wednesday after driving 14 hours only to discover someone had tried to break in, and as a result, I couldn’t unlock my door to get in the house. Had to call a locksmith to pop off my knob (we won’t talk about what that cost!), then finally got in and surprise! the city never turned my water back on. When I calls them the next day, a little hot under the collar (literally), they informed me they did turn on the water, but then turned it back off because the front spigot had been turned on. Me: “Why didn’t they just turn the spigot off?” Them: “We don’t do that.” Seriously, that’s what she said! Grrrr!
Anywho, now back to almost “normal.”‘ Spent the morning bushwhacking my back yard, which was a sand pile when I left, but now is a verdant green thicket of booty high brush, marsh grasses, and swamp flowers. Only got about half done before I ran out of gas. There’s always tomorrow!
So happy to be back with all my perfumes I left behind! After the water was turned on yesterday, I had a long and luxurious shower followed by a few lifting spritzes of Corsica Fusriosa! Ahhh. I won’t be leaving this behind again????
So glad things are back to “normal.” And you smell great.
Thank you! Normal is relative right? ????
I was thinking of you all week, your three 12 hour shifts and then trip home. Sorry about the attempted break in, not a very pleasant welcome home. I’m dying to hear about the inflatable kayak you’ve ordered….please send details so I can look it up. Is it a model that you can carry as a backpack? They are increasingly popular here for back country rivers.
About the attempted break in- they didn’t get in, so it’s all good. However, if they had gotten in, they would have been severely disappointed as I have nothing of value-no electronics, no jewelry, or any of the other things that have street value. Just one huge old Tibetan chest that I treasure.
I’m selling the kayak because it’s just too difficult to travel with and/or keep safe and would require a very expensive roof rack. I ordered the inflatable SUP seen here…
Great 2 year warranty and more portable than the kayak. I will be able to fit/store it under the bed in my van. It’s very wide for stability. I may even get into SUP yoga! Planning on testing it out with T-Rex next week. The water here is already uncomfortably warm. My next contract in July is in an area with a lot of lakes and rivers, which I prefer over ocean/salt water, cause no sharks!
Looks like FUN with a capital F. Perfect.
It’s good to be home!
It is, but I’ll be happy to head out again!
I’m glad you’re home again, but sorry about all of the hassles! You smell wonderful.
Hassle shmashle! I’m walking, talking, (mostly) in my right mind and (mostly) continent! It’s all good ????
Oh my; that sounds like a lot of unpleasantness. Break-ins can make you feel so violated!
BG body cream is so nice in the blazing heat. Last year in the summer I think it was me being complimented while out grocery shopping; I had the body cream, body splash and perfume on. Someone commented “oh, someone smells so good”; my hubby and I just walked by and he doesn’t wear any fragrance stuff.
Glad everything worked out for you.
I’m on a celbrescent kick lately I guess so today is Eau de Gaga. I snagged this for $9.99 at my local Marshall’s and it’s a great summer perfume–lime, green tea, and violet. Very light, very low sillage, but I have an important meeting today with someone I haven’t met before so I didn’t want a big fragrance.
I love a good bargain fragrance!
I think I’ve seen that one at my local T.J. Maxx, and am glad to know it’s good. Maybe I can snag one too.
I tried it once and it is really good. I have to look for it.
I love the Eau de Gaga ! The lotion and shower gel are good too if you happen on them or a gift set. It reminds me a bit of earl grey tea and pepper ( MJ Bang?) with a bit of lemon. If you are hunting it at the discounters do check the men’s fragrance area too I found my giftset on the guys side . This definitely works as a unisex scent.
Late to the party! SOTD is AG Ninfeo Mio!
Putting that in my list to try
That’s a good one!
Continuing my theme within a theme, to wear this whenever it fits, my SOTD is Vetiver Tonka. It is a summer fave for me (along with fall and spring, maybe winter, too!). The weather seems to pull out different facets and in the warmth it is all bright vetiver.
Portland is having a heat wave and summer events are underway. Portland’s World Naked Bike Ride is tomorrow night. Last year there were 10,000 participants and I was stopped at an intersection as they went by–it’s quite a sight, lots of leis and body paint. Sunday is the Milk Carton Boat Race, where participants make boats out of waxed milk cartons and try to stay afloat as they paddle across a pond. Both days it will be hot and I’ll be wearing summer favorites. Today, with a high getting in the 90s I’m wearing Assam of India, a new love I’ve only worn once before when it was cooler.
I have decided to not do WNBR this year but in past years I have done pasties, leis and flower crowns!
I think you should get a bike!
We get naked rugby matches in Dunedin ….it’s even worse than it sounds….and the midwinter swim, a herd of wobble bottoms heading for freezing cold surf. Brrrr just thinking about it.
Naked rugby sounds downright painful! Sure hope they wear shin guards ????
Happy Friday Everyone! I’m wearing Blackberry & Bay by Jo Malone. It’s a great fruity scent for the summer heat. Have a great weekend everyone!
This is a fun and fruity scent!
We had a bonfire on the beach in honour of a friend who should have been 32 yesterday. I still smell of the smoke and the Dzing I wore. (Leftover beach bonfire is definitely on my top scents of summer)
I’ll bring a little something in case I need a touch up…
Oh, how beautiful.
What a good way to honor your friend.
I love that smell too. My condolences on the loss of your friend, that was a lovely way to honour them.
Those are both wonderful scents. What a thoughtful memorial for your friend.
2 spritzes of Isabey Fleurs Nocturne. Nape of neck and behind the knee. I’m saving skin space for more sampling this evening.
Any idea what’s getting an airing this evening?
I’m meeting up with local NSTers. Hoping to sniff Arbole Arbole, and their recent sample purchases from Indiescents.
Sounds like fun! Hope you find something to love.
4(!) spritzes of Shangri-La. I smell very very good while dealing with employee issues
Wearing an old summer favorite of mine, Bahiana. I would describe it as a bright, woodsy citrus with a bit of coconut floating about for beachy fun. Perfect for warm summer days!
Bahiana was wonderful, I had one of those pretty green bottles with the feathers dangling from the neck. It’s all gone now but the memories are good. I bought it at Printemps in Paris.
That’s the bottle I have! I got mine almost 10 yrs ago at Bendel’s. When I hit the last third of a bottle, it goes into the 2-3 times a year group. So my bottle should last for at least another 10 yrs, ha!
Lime, Gardenia, and Benzoin! I like dirty gardenias, but I like the way the clean gardenia here combines with the lime in a way that suggests cookies or something nibbled in the shade.
This morning I was pondering my lack of summer favorite scents and then I realized it is because here in Houston we have about 9 months of summer! Summer is just our way of life and we live in the a/c all the time and so I run the usual gamut without a lot of attention to the outdoor weather. But in the spirit of the community project I looked in my perfume cabinet and came up with a travel size of Hermes Eau d’Orange Verte which is doing me nicely thank you!
The kittens all came through their neuter/spay surgery fine yesterday! I was told to keep the boys and girls separately for “two to three days” so the boys wouldn’t play too much and bother the girls while they still have sore bellies. Well, that did not last! They all cried at being separate and this morning they are all running around like nothing happened. I’m hoping this is OK but didn’t have the heart to keep the girls locked up in the bathroom.
I really love that one- and you can get a big bottle of it for an affordable price as well. It’s sold to men but smell lovely on everybody.
They told us to do that with our 2 and it didn’t last either with them both scratching and whining on either side of a closed door. I’m such a pushover. They ended up healing fine.
This recalls a thread somewhere about what perfumes work best in the rain. My answer, as a Seattleite, after LOLing was: everything in my collection!
Nice to hear that the kittens are doing all right after their surgery.
Woke up uber late today, just did a review of CdG Avignon and about to wear Kyoto after my shower. That’s how late I slept today. It’s hot, humid and raining outside right now.
I’m wearing Terracotta Voile d’Ete today, which is on my top 10. Even though there’s an actual heat wave in the Bay Area, I live in a weird little micro climate across from the Golden Gate, so it’s cool and foggy. That means my summer fragrance needs a bit of warmth and spice!
You smell fabulous! Vd’E is one of my favorites.
1) It is going to be hot as blazes this weekend! Poolside at the local community center along with all the other Oregonians! I made some new friends from Japan last night when I went to a book launch, so will be hosting them there so they can tan and swim!
1a) This is the one: https://www.portlandoregon.gov/parks/60941
2) SOTD: 4711, of course! It is one of the GOAT fragrances and perfect for a hot day. Best bit: you can re-apply as needed. I am keeping mine in the work fridge!
3) Iced Coffee and salad for breakfast!
I had coffee for breakfast too, I feel like I am cheating on my tea every time I switch it up
Tea is lovely but an iced coffee at the elbow was so needed this morning!
LOVE 4711! even though I have not smelled it in years-LOL! 4711 is my childhood (along with Jean Nate!) numerous bottles in all different sizes floating around my house in the 1970s…you are smell great, Ede!
There is a small shop that sells a lot of good to the Latino/Caribbean market here and they carry a lot of awesome brands, like Nivea and various permutations of 4711! I t was a joy to find and I now have a big ole bottle for the summer!
Today’s SOTD is Clinique Wrappings – I love the lavender and fizzy notes, but oh boy is the leather/marine/patchouli dry down gorgeous.
Oh, that’s on my list! I bet you smell great! is that one that Clinique only sells at their counters at the holidays days?
Yes it is – it’s always been one of my favorites. I have an older (1.7oz) bottle from the late 90’s.
Wrappings!!!!! Love that one! I always associate it with winter but yes, I could see how it would work as a summer scent.
Alaia. I am discovering how much I love this scent in the summertime.
You smell wonderful! I need a small bottle of this. To me it’s the petrichor smell. The official description of ‘water on hot stones’ is spot on.
Un Jardin en Mediterranee, which I think will always be a summer favorite.
Next week I’m traveling to Ohio to see family and then to Chicago for family and friends. I’m excited, but I won’t be able to participate in the bottle porn community project since I’ll be away from my bottles. I plan to do some sniffing/shopping in Chicago. Also am excited to have reservations at Stephanie Izard’s Duck Duck Goat!
I love your user name, and you smell wonderful.
I am in Chicago this weekend! No fancy dining for me, but I plan to smell away at Barneys, NM, Chanel and so on. Have a lovely trip!
Aww thanks! Have fun in Chicago!
Year in, year out– vintage White Shoulders will always be a summer favorite
After a heatwave, today temperature suddenly returned to pleasant 68F (20C) but it wasn’t a reason not to wear my hot days summer favorite, right?
Yosh Ginger Ciao. I wish more people had an easier access to this wonderful tropical perfume: I’m positive many would love it. I do.
68F!! Only in my dreams! Enjoy????
I am jealous of your 68!
I’m jealous myself! Last weekend was miserable – so I’m very happy today.
Tried out a new sample that ended up smelling like shampoo mixed with cleaning product. I wish I could remember its name so I’d know to avoid it. Luckily, Dame Verbena, Freesia, and Musk is still in my purse from a few days ago, so now I smell sparkly and beachy–with a bit of bubblegum in there that I don’t recall from before, hmm.
All this talk of Orange Sanguine makes me (a) want a travel spray of that and (b) wish I had played more with my new JMs from the freebiemeet. Those deserved a seat during this week of summer tops. None of their scents really stand in my top 10 individually, but as a whole, the house is definitely one of the best for summer.
Shampoo and cleaning product?! Oh no! Was it one of the ones I sent?
I don’t THINK so. It was definitely not Infusion d’Iris. I always try something at least twice before deciding I hate it, so if it was something you sent, I’ll find out soon
Bracken woman on this sweltering day and multiple compliments. This is definitely a summer 2017 top ten!
This is really tempting me. I love the scent of bracken on my walks so much. Hope your word count is in the positive!
Thanks Kanuka! I had to stop and do revisions on some older stuff – annoying but editors need what they need – and am now back at it, with words slowing accruing!
I just smelled this today at Osswald and I really like it. I will do a full wearing of my sample this weekend to see if I must have a FB. It may be my reward for achieving certain goals during my vacation!
I love the opening. But then it went on “just pleasant”. I’ll need to get a real sample and do a proper testing. Have you tried the blossom one? It was also very nice – despite the name.
Brakken lasts nicely on me and while it gets less juicy, us lovely in a different way. I hated Blossom, but that’s just me. At luckyscent Amouage is 20% off. This is the only bottle I haven’t bought from a discounter, but I still didn’t pay full price!
Morning, all. Sleepy Saturday here. I haven’t quite adjusted back to local time: I’m falling deeply asleep far too early and coming fully awake at silly times. Today I shall potter about removing the fiine haze of Dakkie fur that seems to cover every surface of our house, and then let myself have a little snooze this afternoon…heaven.
So, to perfume: I’m wearing Tauerville Vanilla Flash at the moment. I bought it for our cat sitter, but in an email exchange discovered that she was hankering for a certain Chanel eyeshadow arrangement, so I bought that for her and kept the VF. I have to say, I think I came off better than she did. I was deeply suspicious of it at first, but now I really Iike it. This cold weather helps with the liking (14 is the high today), but I think the best thing is that VF isn’t a foodie vanilla at all: in fact, it’s a rather dry vanilla. The sweetness seems to derive from wood and a waft of incense, and there’s a fleeting hint of leather. Nice!
I’ve sort of settled back in to work, but I feel as though I’m in two halves, or perhaps a two-thirds/one third division. The larger, rather dull part is seeing and engaging with necessary tasks, and the other, smaller part is madly subversive, restless, impatient with nonsense, and mentally still on holiday. Perhaps it’s a function of delayed jet lag.
Be well, all.
Ooh, that vanilla sounds like something I should try.
It does take a while to settle down, in my experience, but at least you have some wonderful times to reflect on while you’re unsettled
I imagine Dakkie was very pleased to have you back.
He hasn’t stopped telling tall stories yet! It’s a little trying at 2a.m., but we wuv him despite his appalling manners. He’s very well, though, andcgas even regained some weight, so our wonderful sitter wrought miracles while we were away.
The dogs got me up at 1 am as it was clearly morning in dog hours, and time for breakfast and a walk . They went back to sleep after a snack . I didn’t so I did a waterdragon and pootled around and sprayed some Galop.
Now it is breakfast time. Yay! Mid winter carnival and lantern festival here today. Every drum in the city will be banging, and all the stilt walkers will be having their day in the dark. Best thing about midwinter is all this can take place at 5.30 so I can be home with a glass of wine by 8! Myrrh ardente. What a fabulous perfume. I think Waterdragon is trying to convert me to becoming a proper perfumista…the rain in spain and all that.
That sounds like an incredible event! I wish I could see it. Maybe someday…
I tried Myrrhe Ardente a few years ago, and it was discontinued before I could make up my mind about it.
Enjoy the carnival!
I’m in awe of stilt walkers! Have a great time and give the pups a pat from T-Rex and I! ????
Today hasn’t been fun – I spent 8 hours painting ironwork in 90+ degree temperatures. My dream for our next home is a high rise apartment! I was shocked that the Mojave Ghost I spritzed this morning before painting lasted all day. After a shower, I put on my favorite summer perfume, Philosykos. Love love love it.
Happy weekend/ almost weekend!
You smell great! And good for you on getting the painting done – I’m impressed.
That sounds like a nightmare! The painting, not the Mohave Ghost! That sounds superb and the name alone is fantastic!
Wow, my respects to you for doing the painting on 90 degrees. And you smelled great!
The weather here is cooperating with today’s theme, as am I. (ish) Had a lovely couple of morning drenchings of Cristalle Eau Verte, a summer favorite.
I’ve lately had a burning desire to re-try the Merveilles(es?) what with the love they get here year-round, but particularly in summer, it seems. They’re what led me to the rabbit hole (along with the Jardins) but after a bad experience with one (which one, I don’t know as I cannot keep them straight) it put me off them.
I’m about to buy some samples of all but L’Ambre, which I had a tiny bit of in a vial that I pulled out this winter and have been meaning to wear since. My arms are now drenched in it, and I’m ready to try the others.
Oh, and I ended up wearing Dita von Teese to the Broadway tour of Cabaret last night. If you’re a fan of musical theater and have never seen this, I highly recommend it if it comes to your neck of the woods. Absolutely stellar, stunning, beguiling, not enough adjectives. A piece of theater like nothing I’ve seen before, and I’d love to go again tonight, tomorrow, and through the rest of the run.
I’ve been lucky enough to see a Broadway tour of Cabaret – like you said, wonderful! I’m majorly lemming Hamilton now!
Hamilton will be touring here next spring. I’m on the email list so will be alerted when tickets go on sale but I’m not getting my hopes up as 1) I’m sure they’ll sell out in minutes and 2) Will be asking way more than I want to pay. I’m dying to see it, though!
I’ll probably see it when they finally release the DVD!
It is worth EVERY PENNY.
Dita! Of course! I should have thought of that. Glad you enjoyed the show. It’s one I can (and will) see over and over again. Same with the film. Liza is a tough act to follow.
I still haven’t seen Hamilton. Waiting til some tickets trickle down to discounters, which will probably happen in 5 years.
And how did you like the DvT?
The lead playing Sally Bowles seemed entirely undaunted by the ghost of Liza, which is always impressive. And, ya, re: Hamilton, I was going to add “maybe I’ll be able to afford tickets when it tours 5 years from now.”
Is the film version of Cabaret wildly different from the stage musical? I’ve seen it, but it’s probably been 20 years, and my memory of it was only vaguely similar to what I saw last night so it was like a whole new experience.
The DvT opening was really pretty – very soft rose, sandalwood & a touch of incense. But then the rose turned on me a bit, as it is wont to do. It amplified and soured, but wasn’t unpleasant. I went with my mom, who said I smelled like baby powder, so clearly our noses were having 2 different experiences!
Thanks for letting me try it! Money saved, as I’ve been *this close* to buying a FB for years. In the end, it struck me as a nice rose but similar to lots of others – probably because I couldn’t really smell any of the other notes going on.
The film has more added to it-some side stories. Also Sally is the American and he’s the Brit. I actually prefer the movie version, possibly because I saw it before the play. But also Liza and Joel Grey are both fantastic. I own the DVD and probably watch it once a year. Interestingly, I read the story in Christopher Isherwood’s “Berlin Stories” on which it is based and it’s the shortest story in the book-like only a couple of pages. Not sure who took that little snippet and built a whole story around it. I highly recommend the film.
And glad I saved you a blind buy fail! I get mostly rose but it has a retro, almost cosmetic vibe to me. Not powdery, though.
Hey kpaint, Sephora and Nordstrom have various configurations of EdM and whatever you end up liking, I can probably share a decant…
Yes, I used to spray them every time I went to Sephora, but would always forget which one I was wearing. I bought a few of each of the mfr samples so I can spend more time with them. And thanks for the offer! I may take you up on it
Happy Friday to most of you, Happy Saturday to a few! Horrible weather here, so I’m not sure if I want to be tortured by reading about your summer scents. I’ve decided to join you Northern Hemisphere folks in Annick Goutal Chèvrefeuille, but will go for something more warming should I ever venture out today.
50 Shades of Grey down here and not in a good way. I think your perfume choice is spot on
Summer is my least favorite perfume season. We get three months of high heat and humidity here in the DC area, which means heavy sun screen, heat rash, eczema, sweat, and general annoyance. I soon give up on perfume. But I did buy and enjoy AG Ninfeo Mio last year. Also, it’s the only time of the year that Prada Infusion d’Iris does not bore me to irritation
I wonder if hair mists would work better for you for the 3 months?
SOTD = Guerlain’s Terracotta Le Parfum, from one of the first decants I ever purchased. It is blooming beautifully in the humidity that has crawled back into my part of the world.
You smell like summer. Terracotta is wonderful.
This morning I wore Ophelia, by Heeley. Its a nice, polite white flower scent that us safe for office. But everytime i smell it i am reminded of the fact that i actually need my white flowers dirtier and a bit louder.
Oh well, it brings a bit of a romantic spring feel to the office and to myself (dressed in black trousers, black blazer).
I saw Alien Covenant, and though it brings nothing fresh to the table and the script was predictable, it was very entertaining and I loved the art direction.
Oh this was not in my top 10 summer scents by the way. I dont even think I am able to name a top 10 like that. I wear lots of scents year round.
When it gets warmer I do wear more Hermès to work though (a few jardins, EdM), but at home/in evening I still wear white flowers and orientals.
But i could use a few more green scents or colognes in my collection…a little more choice for daytime wear is never a bad idea.
Chiming in again to say that post-Yoga I am now wearing Do Son. I used the shower oil first so wanted to top it off. I’m surprised I haven’t seen that anyone is wearing it today.
SotD = Eau des Merveilles because it’s summer and it’s Friday and sometimes I can’t help myself.
EdM makes me smile every time. Sometimes I spritz and take a big breath and think of Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma as I am filled with emotion. Other times Merveilles is Satie’s 3 Gymnopédies, oddly calm, eerily familiar, profoundly comforting.
Though I love it year round, in warm weather EdM is sun, salt, water, and sand, magic and memory in a bottle.
Happy summer to all, let’s make it fragrant.
EdM is worthy of all the praise … You smell like summer!
aw, thanks! EdM is praiseworthy every day of the year, and especially in summer.
You smell great, I Love EdM! It is becoming a no brainer for me. I may need a bottle (I have a mini right now, but I use it more than I’d expected).
That happened to me with EdM. A sample, a mini, then a bottle that gets lots of love.
EdM is so beautiful. You smell great!
and you were fabulously fragrant in Orange Sanguine today, another of my favorites. I must do a side-by-side comparison of EdM and OS. I feel like there might be something interesting there.
Or a layering experiment!
oooooh, yes to layering citrus scents.
Really, you find Satie comforting? To me, the Gymnopedies sound like a familiar anxiety, a self-loathing that sometimes retreats but never quite goes away.
40% off sitewide at The Body Shop today, online only. They got me for some almond & honey hand cream, olive shower gel, & english rose face mask. Not complaining
Versace Yellow Diamond today. I smell of summery shampoo. I feel my Herbal Essences mid-90’s roots (no pun intended) today. Love me my-hair-but-better shampoo scents.
Agreed! I love a good shampoo-y scent every now and again. Have you ever found any perfumes that remind you of Herbal Essences?
Testing AA Tempted Muse. Another wow! from that line. I really, really want a FB of this one. I’ve been obsessively sniffing my wrists all day.
Hunkering down for a deluge and possible tornadoes from Cindy. It seems crazy to be talking about tropical storms as far from an ocean as I am!
Yikes, stay safe. One of my responsibilities involve paying attention to events that could cause damage to assets (people and property) and I just closed out my Tropical Storm Cindy file!
Applied You or Someone Like You this AM and it is now gone baby gone. Will reapply, but wish it had more lasting power. When my sample runs out, I think I won’t miss it too much, except for the first bit of mintiness… which I really like… fun and unexpected… oh dear…
Update for those following my trials and tribulations regarding my son’s most recent health challenge: Have been up to high doh about that second test we ran last week at the hospital with my son. The results came back completely wacky and I immediately called his doctor–but she was out of town for a few days. The lab has apologized for the “labeling switch,” but they tossed out the samples the day after I called the hospital. So it looks like my son has another trip to the day hospital to do the whole thing all over again. I am working on getting the hospital to pay for it, of course. This is supposed to be a world class pediatric hospital!! Ostensibly.
I hope everything goes fine with your son. Keeping you both on my prayers.
That is just nuts! Throwing out the evidence! They should pay for it plus the cost of transportation to/from and whatever rate you charge for your writings!
I know. I am working on it. Just really tired. Reversing the results confirms the earlier dx of adrenal insufficiency. So either way, I am tired. I actually suspect it was the nurse who screwed up labeling the vials. Human error.
I’m going to treat myself with some Zelda this evening, courtesy of you. Zelda and a G & T!
My best wishes for you and your son!
Waving HI at everyone!
Crazy time in johanob-land.C.R.A.Z.Y.
Work/moving/redecorating/perfume room/sleep…work/moving….you get my drift.
I have been lurking though,just so y’all know!Lol!
SOTD Ombre Rose L’Original.Not neccesarily a summer favorite,more a comfort scent.Plus winter here,so…bummer.
Happy Weekend everyone!
I’ll be around more regularly from now on!
Welcome back Johanob! Glad to hear you are fine! How is your perfume room going?
Thank you for saying Hi!How are you?
The perfume room has evolved into THE PERFUME APARTMENT.Lol.
I bought a fabulous display cabinet that should be visible behind me in my new gravatar, still planning the actual shelving I want to do,but it’s a labor of love!Hopefully pics of the whole thing will be available soon!
OOoohhh! Can’t wait to see the photos! Welcome back – you’ve been in my thoughts and glad to hear things are *good* crazy and not *bad* crazy.
Oh, and I love Ombre Rose in winter. One of my faves to wear to bed.
Yes I decided to top up Ombre Rose after my shower to wear to bed again as well!Really classic.
Everything is fine with me on this side of the world. Thank you for asking. I am dying to see the pictures soon. Your new gravatar is great!
Glad to hear you are doing OK!
Thanks for the compliment, being a supershy dude and all.Lol.
Hello!!! You smell great (LOVE Ombre Rose!!! Had an FB a VERY long time ago) and you look fabulous!!! Love the new avatar! Glad to hear that all is well
Hope you’re well…as well?Lol.
Good to ‘see’ you johanob !!
Ombre Rose smells great.
Glad everything is going well.
Hot spiced rum, for winter chills.
Hey johanob! We missed you! Glad everything’s fine with you. I can’t wait to see your perfume apartment! Be well!
Hello Johanob! You went from “perfume room” to “perfume apartment”? Wow! I am amazed and slightly stunned at the thought of it. Glad to hear that you are doing all right.
Hi and welcome back! I’d love to do an air bnb in your perfume apartment. The gravatar is great but we’ll need better photos of the thing behind you Glad you are well!
In awe of your perfume apartment! And love your choice of Ombre Rose. Glad that things are progressing so well for you.
Really glad to see you back, and that you are well!
Hello hello…SOTD = FM Carnal Flower Hair Mist
3 sprays = incredible lasting power
I stopped by the St. Ives pop-up bar. Nice space but eh, the only things you an customize are facial scrub and body lotion. I wanted to get a tiny sample of the body lotion to do a patch test but they do not do that. Instead, I got a 3 oz bottle of Oatmeal & Shea Butter Body Wash so I left happy.
I then stopped by Sephora and got a sample of Atelier California Clementine.
Since I was close enough to OsswaldNYC, I decided to stop by. Josie was there and showed me a bunch of Montales, SHL 777, a new line that I was too lazy to write down, Memo and Amouage. I had forgotten how expensive the Amouages are as I got my one and only FB (Sunshine Woman) heavily discounted online! That said, Bracken Woman is really great and, badabing, I got a sample! I also smelled the newest – Cherry Blossom (I think) – and meh, it smelled like bad breath.
Overall, not a bad outing!
In a What Was She Thinking episode – I can’t unsee so I have to share to get it out of my system —
a tall, reasonably attractive pear-shaped woman must have gotten her fashionista sense mixed up! She wore a black body-hugging all black knit top, a skirt with alternating horizontal wide black and white stripes (think Sephora) and mustard yellow tights.
I always love shopping and people watching with you!
:-). And I forgot to mention that the Body Wash was free. You can get 1 of 4 items by filling out a questionnaire at a kiosk. I of course gave a fake name and a real email address I don’t check anymore.
Great outing! I like Bracken Woman too. I don’t know how long it takes the Amouages after release to get to discounters. Osswald occasionally has celebration promotions- it would be a good time to split Braken if you find you ” need it” .
Sunshine got there pretty quickly. I’ll watch out for the promotions!
Someone was wearing mustard yellow tights in this heat????
For real, I wore pretty much that exact outfit on the regular when I was about 19
Looks like we are going from floods to extreme heat in the next couple days. Yikes!
Wearing CB At The Beach 1966; this reminds me of the old-school Coppertone. I can almost see my sister and I in the backyard trying to out-tan each other back when we were young teens!
Stay cool and fragrant this weekend everyone.
