Holiday fragrance gifts 2010, part 8

Posted by Robin on 17 December 2010 28 Comments

Tick, tick, tick....

If you need more ideas, check out part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, part 6 and part 7.

From Jo Malone, the Pomegranate Noir Fragrance Chronicle: "Transform Pomegranate Noir with the accords of Raspberry, Casablanca Lily and Guaiacwood to create your own compelling blend of this iconic fragrance for both men and women." Includes a 30 ml bottle of Pomegranate Noir plus 9 ml bottles of Raspberry Cologne, Casablanca Lily Cologne and Guaiacwood Cologne. $95.

From Patch NYC, a solid perfume in the Skull fragrance, with black tea, anise, basil and citrus: "Captivatingly subtle and surprising a mysterious other-worldly delight." $22 at Beautyhabit.

From Panhandle Girl at Etsy, the Flaming Heart soap in frankincense and myrrh: "The ancient world knew from good smells-- pretty important in the days before refrigeration. Natural tree resins, frankincense and myrrh smell woodsy, rich and exotic, historically used in everything from incense to eyeliner to panaceas. We just like it in soap as a rustic, complex and unisex fragrance." $5.25 each.

From Mor, a gift tin with items in their limited edition holiday fragrance, Cinnamon and Clove. Set includes a 50 ml Hand Cream, a 200g bar of triple milled soap and 150 ml Body Butter. "Let your senses feast on the delicious spices of Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Cloves rounded off with Vanilla to evoke scents of the Festive Season...Feel warmed by notes of Sandalwood, Cedarwood and Patouchli." [sic] $48 at Space NK.

A stocking stuffer from Prada: 8 ml bottles of Infusion D'Homme & Infusion D'Iris, $10 at Sephora.

Agree on both of those. The skull reminds me of the Phantom of the Opera.

I haven’t heard this from anyone else, but pomegranate Noir produces the most hideous stink on my skin…

I wouldn’t call it a “hideous stink,” but on my skin Pom Noir is “quite unpleasant.”

I know that phrase is a bit extreme, but it is one of the few smells I had to immediately scrub off. Many people love it so its definitely a chemistry thing. People I asked to smell it on me agreed that it was revolting so it wasn’t a personal response.

The Panhandle Girl store is closed! I wonder if that item can be purchased somewhere else. The little Prada bottles are cute! It’s nice to be able to get a little bit of luxury! I am off to South Coast Plaza today – got the day off work!

I just went back to Panhandle Girl and stuck that soap in my cart…very odd.

    http://panhandlegirl.com/ has an announcement that
    “SHOP CLOSES FRIDAY 12/17 FOR WINTER BREAK..WILL RE-OPEN 1/3/2011
    News
–After you create a free account with PanhandleGirl, you’ll receive an email coupon for 10% off your first order– so sign up now and then check your inbox for the discount code!
–Find us on Facebook and get the low-down on sales and new products: http://www.facebook.com/panhandlegirl”

So the business is apparently still viable, but for some reason this retailer is closing right before XMass.

I’ve placed several orders from Etsy vendors this year, and have noticed that many of them stated that they would be closing around this time. Several of them explained that if an order was placed any later, it would probably not be possible to get it to the buyer before Christmas, so to avoid any such disappointments, they simply stop taking orders after a certain date and do not resume until after Christmas.

I’ve had my eye on those Patch NYC solids for quite some time. I’m really interested in the “Pipe” one. Vanilla, bourbon, cognac, tobacco, patchouli – what’s not to love? In fact, I think I deserve a little Christmas present from me…..

I now realize that the Tick Tick Tick is the holiday coutdown clock, but for a fleeting second, I thought you’d gone all Serge Lutens on us and you were a cicada, or making Paris or whatever it was….

“Paris tick” I meant. Argh, coffee needed.

Whereas I’m feeling the horrible crush (work too busy, husband living in another state), so had NO trouble distinguishing what the tick tick tick was. :O Feeling it, too… every last tick.

LOL!! I love that there is now a whole segment of society that associates “tick tick tick” with a relatively obscure perfume house…

Thanks! I have to say, that is the first time I have seen anything with the same word used 120 times in a row.

I love those Jo Malone “books” – I was drooling over a couple of them I never bought. They are a nice idea, for sure.

I kind of like “patouchli” – like it is a special patch blend made by Jean Patou or something. Cinnamon and clove… mmmmm

    And yes, the skull.

Jo Malone’s pack of 4 seems nice as a gift, especially considering the contents-Casablanca Lily Cologne and Guaiacwood Cologne. 😀 and Prada infusions (both siblings) mmmmmm. 🙂
