Holiday fragrance gifts 2010, part 4 ~ cheap thrills edition

Posted by Robin on 8 December 2010 13 Comments

I hope all of you are done shopping for the year? In case not, here are some (relatively) easy-on-the-wallet gift ideas.

For the scent-memory enthusiast, a holiday coffret from Demeter, with 30 ml bottles of Egg Nog, Snow and Mulled Cider. $29.

Need something slightly more upscale? Here's the Tocca Eau de Parfum Viaggio coffret, with 15 ml bottles of Stella, Florence and Cleopatra. $45 at Candles Off Main.

For the Jane Austen fan, a set of six 9 ml roll-on perfumes inspired by the Austen novels. Longbourn, for Pride and Prejudice, is "Sweet honeysuckle with leafy grass notes blended with zesty lemon and herbal undertones." The whole set, boxed, is ÂŁ30 from the gift shop at the Jane Austen Center in the UK, or you can buy them separately (and find some other literary-minded fragrances) at the Latherati Soap Foundry in the US.

Your giftee prefers Gwen Stefani to Jane Austen? Fine, here's a gift set with all six of the Wicked Style Harajuku Lovers scents. $15 at Sephora.

A teacher gift, perhaps? From L'Occitane, the Shea Orchard Daily Duo in Orange Honey, with 30 ml each Pure Shea Butter and Shea Butter Mini Hand Cream. $25.

I really want the Tocca coffret simply because I think it’s just too pretty. Alas, I already have Cleopatra and I rarely — if ever — wear that.

I admit it is not my favorite brand…but that is a cute coffret.

Psyched to see Latherati on here!

The products are fantastic (I’m in love with their Curiouser soap and Isle of Sky lotion), and completely affordable. Plus, every shipment feels (and is) handpacked by Julie…oh, not to mention fun free samples, too.

Even the perfumes are only $5.00…you just can’t beat that, especially because they are some beautiful, nuances scents. Try Gloom for a great, cashmere-warm-as-toast feeling!

P.S. It’s not mentioned above, but I always buy off Etsy.

Thanks so much…I did not know about the Etsy shop. Jessica sent me a link to that set — I had never heard of them.

Hmmmm. I think EggNog from Demeter has great possibilities. The atmosphere without the calories! Then again, it might produce cravings for the real thing. I guess I’ll keep all the ingredients on hand for everyone else, just in case, and impose my Iron will (cough, choke, cough) on myself.

Ah! My go to….L’Occitane! Verbena has been my favourite for soap for years. Never tire of it. It goes over very well for gifts also. Especially when people find out they have those really cool refil thingies.

I really like their Eggnog. Have not smelled the Mulled Cider though…

Demeter Eggnog is excellent but it really does not smell all that much like actual egg nog, because there’s no egg yolk to it: more like a rich cinnamon-vanilla scent. (Apparently the family recipe had cinnamon rather than what I think is the more usual nutmeg.) Exceptionally good for the price: not as much lasting power as CSP Vanille Cannelle, but probably a better scent.

Has anyone (Becca perhaps) tried sugar bones or sinister from Latherati? I’m wondering whether these are long-lasting, or relatively powerful? Otherwise my skin might just gobble them up.

But I adore the Ray Bradbury quotes…
