Holiday fragrance gifts 2010, part 1

Posted by Robin on 12 November 2010 26 Comments

Diptyque 2010 holiday candle collection

Once again, a drool-worthy holiday candle collection from Diptyque. At left, Pin ("fresh and familiar, green and resinous, the scent of pine needles and a hint of patchouli"); at right, Orange Épicée ("With its emblematic note of sour orange with a mix of essences of winter spices: Indian ginger, star anise from China, clove"). Not shown is Oliban, in blue ("A mystical and deep scent: the essence of lemon and elemi, incense and myrrh"). $68 each at Diptyque Paris.

Cire Trudon stink bombs

For a more unusual take on home fragrance, the stink bomb from Cire Trudon: "With its sights firmly set on having fun with fragrance Cire Trudon has combined the concept of beautiful interior scent with that of the roguish notion of the stink bomb. For a humorous take on home fragrance and guerilla perfume anytime, anyplace, anywhere just break the glass vials, stand back and enjoy." Available in the Nazareth, Roi Soleil and Spiritus Sancti fragrances, $41 for 10 vials at Aedes.

For the Saks Fifth Avenue and/or Bond no. 9 fan: "Gathered together in one breathtaking, luxurious black leather box: a repertory of scents from the Saks Fifth Avenue Collection of six scents created for Saks Fifth Avenue Boca Raton, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Indianapolis, and Texas. For those who value sparkle and shimmer, this is the ultimate gift." $1800 at Saks Fifth Avenue.

Slightly more affordable, but still in the big bucks category, a gift set in the Tuscan Leather fragrance from Tom Ford Private Blend. Includes 100 and 240 ml Eau de Parfum sprays, a refillable atomizer with funnel and a candle. $975 at Neiman Marcus.

Taking things down a notch or two (or ten), a Roger & Gallet gift set, with 30 ml bottles of their Ginger and Bois d'Orange fragrances, plus matching soaps. In a zippered case, $55 at Caswell Massey.

Stay tuned, more to come!

I’m such a masochist and really shouldn’t have read that blurb about the Saks frags. But I never got to try most of them, especially the New Orleans which I still long to smell, and if I were eccentrically wealthy I’d be seriously tempted. 🙁

The Diptyque candles sound amazing, and I wish they had maybe a votive or smaller set of all three since I can’t decide which sounds loveliest as a gift to someone else, of course. Hehehe. 😉

They DO have a set of the 3 mini Christmas candles 😉

I mentioned it in the last open thread but I’m totally jonesing after these. I sniffed them a couple of days ago and now just need to decide if I like spiced orange or frankincense more.

I also loved the TF Tuscan Leather candle *sigh*

There is a coffret with 3 holiday candles, but they aren’t quite as beautiful:

OH, perfection!! Wonder why I did not find that on the Diptyque site.

The Oliban sounds great but I can’t convince myself to spend more than $30 on a single candle.
Anyone know of incense-centric candles in my price range?
    TIA

Bear: Do some searches for the Voluspa line. I think the quality is great. I also can’t bring myself to spend much on candles. I can’t think offhand of an incense Voluspa, but they might have one.

340 ml of Tuscan Leather edp! Even if that were my signature fragrance, I wouldn’t stockpile that much of the chosen scent at a time.

Seriously! Very odd that they have 2 sizes of the same thing — why?

Especially with a refillable atomizer… you’d think the big jug would be a pourable refill. It rather looks that way, with the cap.

Saw this in Selfridges in London & its basically for a ‘tuscan leather’ freak. Its 100ml spray, the normal 250ml decanter with the standard Tom Ford atomiser & funnel packed with it so you can decant the 250ml (presumably once youve fnished with the 100ml (if that ever happens!) AND a tuscan leather candle so your home can smell of tuscan leather as well as you! Everything in it is availabl separately theyve just packaged it all together. I wasnt convinced but if it had been Tobacco Vanille i might have been!

Just worked out that if you bought all the elements separately at full retail price they would be £585 but they’re selling the set for £700 so you’re paying £115 for the wooden tray ! You don’t get something for nothing with Tom Ford – not even at Christmas!

Including the travel atomizer?? That’s really funny.

Yeah – unbelievably i just noticed that they have increased the price of the travel atomiser & this now retails in the UK for £155 (!!)

The Diptyque candles look lovely, and I’d love to get the pine. I’ve only gotten one of their candles before (the Wild Fennel) and have had great success with it, though I’ve heard others complain of their quality. I’ve had it for over a year and it still scents my sunroom, even without being lit. And I really want to try those stink-bombs! It appeals to the juvenile in me, which is never too far from the surface.

the stink bombs are nice, but the room spray is amazing! 375ml of fragrance in a green ribbed glass bottle with brass spray & cloth bulb – it reminded me of something out of a Jules Verne novel! Unfortunately they dont do my favaorite (Carmelite), but the Spiritus Sancti was lovely

I am wondering what people think of the Nazareth candle from Cire Trudon for the holidays.. I have been seriously tempted to get one of these. It is priced higher than the others in this line (it is in a beautiful RED glass votive) and I am wondering if it is worth it?

I don’t think I get the concept of stink bombs. Break the glass vial … how?… and where?

I almost wish I had sprung for one of those Polish-motif Diptyque holiday candles last year. Sigh.

Normally you’d step on it, but no idea what they’re intending — you would not think they’d really intend people to break the glass indoors?

wouldn’t you rather save the 115 pounds and get the same stuff seperately?

exactly! i think you would only buy it if you were desperate for the wooden tray! The individual elements dont even come separately boxed – they come packed in a foam cutout inside the tray without any packaging so you cant even split the set & give as separate gifts (who would ever need 350ml of Tuscan Leather unless you were planning to bathe in it!?)
