Hiram Green Slowdive ~ fragrance review

Posted by Kevin on 23 January 2018 20 Comments

Hiram Green Slowdive

I grew up in the South and was often called Honey Child, always by adults my grandmother’s age (mostly by women). I got in the habit of using the term myself, even as a little boy. I still use it when I’m riled up about something and/or intoxicated. Friends use the term around me, in exaggerated fashion, when I’m pontificating or “hogging the stage.”

“Hunny CHIIIIIIIIIIIIIILD!“

I think Hiram Green Slowdive* should have been called Honey Child…

Friday scent of the day 5/5

Posted by Robin on 5 May 2017 350 Comments

Happy Cinco de Mayo, and happy May-bee Baby Friday! Our community project for today: wear a honey fragrance, or a fragrance with a honey note. Thanks to happy888cat for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I was going to out-honey everyone today with Serge Lutens Miel de Bois, but I’m not quite up to it this morning. I’ve got a bit on a blotter, and even that is not making me very happy. I predict I will go commando today…

The Body Shop Honeymania ~ fragrance review

Posted by Robin on 3 October 2013 62 Comments

The Body Shop Honeymania product line

As I mentioned when I reviewed White Musk Libertine back in 2011, The Body Shop is one of my favorite hunting-grounds for cheap thrill fragrances at the mall. L’Occitane has pretty much priced themselves out of the cheap thrills category altogether, and it’s been a long time since I liked anything at Bath & Body Works. Lush is always worth a stop assuming you can handle the olfactory overload, but my local store rarely has more than a fraction of their fragrance line.

The Body Shop is iffy, mind you. I don’t like everything they make. You don’t run to the Body Shop because of the high quality ingredients, much less the daring compositions — you won’t find anything like Lush’s The Voice of Reason at The Body Shop. But hey, if you do like something at The Body Shop, and you get there on one of their frequent sales days, you might just walk out with 30 ml of something for less than $10…

L’Occitane Bonne Mere Honey Gentle Body Wash, Creamy Hand Wash, & Gentle Cream ~ scented body product review

Posted by Jessica on 28 September 2012 10 Comments

L'Occitane Bonne Mère bath & body collection

I tend to go through L’Occitane cycles: I’ll shop there repeatedly for a year, then take some sort of unconscious break, then fall into the habit again. The motivating factor behind my latest return to L’Occitane was the release of some new honey-scented body products. I’ve always liked L’Occitane’s chunky, pastel-tinted Bonne Mère soaps, both for myself and as little gifts for new mothers, so I was curious when I learned that a Bonne Mère bath and body collection had been introduced in two fragrances, Milk and Honey.

I’ve tried the three Honey products by now and I’m enjoying all of them. A pump or two of Gentle Body Wash produces generous amounts of foam when used with a mesh pouf. The Creamy Hand Wash cleans thoroughly without making my hands feel dried-out and stripped afterwards, and I end up almost looking for excuses to use it. The Gentle Cream for Face, Body, and Hands is a medium-weight lotion that smoothes quickly and easily into the skin. (I’m using it on my hands and body, but I wouldn’t apply it to my face, no matter what the label says.) I wish the lotion were sold in a larger tube or bottle, but maybe I’m just being greedy.

It’s easy to want more of the Bonne Mère Honey scent…

One Bath and Body Sweet Honey Soap and Honey Please Bath Fizzer ~ scented body products

Posted by Jessica on 25 September 2010 16 Comments

Honey comb

Now that fall is on the way, I’m ready to return to perfumes and body products with stronger and sweeter fragrances, including a few gourmand scents. In my recent review of Wiggle Perfume’s Bee perfume oil, I mentioned my occasional honey craving. So, when I found out about One Bath and Body, its honey-oriented products were the first ones that piqued my interest.

This new company has a “green” agenda: according to their website, “ONE is committed to promoting natural beauty without compromising the beauty of the earth, providing eco-friendly products in recyclable, plastic-free packaging to rejuvenate the spirit and save the planet.” Sweet Honey Soap and Honey Please Bath Fizzer both have relatively straightforward ingredients lists and simple, paper-based containers: the soap is tucked into a little hinged cardboard box, and the spherical Bath Fizzer is housed in a sturdy cardboard cylinder…
