It's Friday and National Candy Corn Day. Birthdays: Christopher Wren, John Adams, Clifford Brown, Louis Malle, Grace Slick. RIP Patrick Stewart. Our community project for today: celebrate the start of Halloween weekend by wearing a fragrance that you like, but that isn't quite "you"...so it works as a costume, so to speak.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Me: points for sure, in Chanel no. 5.
Reminder: on 11/6, wear the fragrance you'd like to give to your 21-year-old self (even if it wasn't on the market at that time). Suggested by Kanuka.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll occasionally manage to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Adult Men's Next Generation Costume Commander Picard is $45.99 at Amazon.
I’m in Deneuve and pretending to be far more elegant than I actually am — hair up, furs and diamonds on, long cigarette holder and elbow-length gloves in place. A far cry from the yoga pants, long-underwear top and grippy socks that are my usual morning get-up.
Great call!
Deneuve makes any outfit elegant, SheriG:)
Ditto on what Carole said
Happy FriYAY y’all!
Today I’m in Bath and Body Works Banana Blend mist. Smells exactly like banana laffy taffy, so it’s a good Halloween fragrance.
I’m in “costume” today with a Halloween themed dress, so having a little candy scent wafting is working. It’s good to go off the usual script sometimes! 🙂
Yay for banana! I still want to find a good banana body lotion.
I am sampling High Tea from Punk and Dandy. Fits the community project because I don’t usually wear citrus heavy scents and this has a strong bergamot opening. Also, seeing the costume reminds me that Picard drank Earl Grey tea so I guess I inadvertantly tied into that
Yes he did! Excellent.
ps…I am behind on comments (I have not read all of Thursday’s) and heading out of town today for a celebration of life event for my mom. I will catch up by Sunday!
I hope the Celebration of Life brings you and your family some comfort, Robin.
I hope the Celebration of Live for your mother gives you comfort, Robin.

Fragrant hugs!

I’m hoping the shared memories are beautiful and comforting.
Wishing you peace as you celebrate your mom.☮️✌️😌
Thinking of you, Robin.
More hugs Robin. I hope the Celebration of Life is everything you and your family need it to be.
Hello and tgif!
My sotd is JPG Le Male Elixir Absolu, a very strong (nice though!) lavender with a big glug of booze. “Decidedly masculine scents” are quite tough to pull off for me so it’s definitely a costume and a challenge. I will wear this perfume and not have it wear me! 😎
I chose Lutens Borneo, and I love it. I work with a few people who hate patchouli so I try not to wear it to work but they’re not in today. I think this scent stays close to the skin. I think it’s subtle and wonderful.
The movie Wicker is finally here so I hope to see that Saturday and then enjoy all the little trick or treaters. They’re so cute and so polite.
I love Borneo.
You smell great.
I also want to see Wicker !
Off to our favourite Indian restaurant this evening with my husband & our good friend Liz, then afterwards back to Liz’s house where she & I will quaff more wine than we should, & my darling husband (who doesn’t drink but doesn’t mind if I do!) will drive us home! One of my all-time favourite fragrances, Bulgari’s Eau Parfumee au The Vert, will be applied – regular readers of NST will be bored of my mentioning it, I’m sure!
Not bored of your SOTD-I remember smelling it back in 1997 and I was blown away that a fragrance could smell like that. I hope you have a great night out .
Have a lovely evening!
I am never bored with you mentioning the same perfume..and I am not to judge as I am the same these days
Nothing wrong with people mentioning a favorite, well-loved fragrance!
Last weekend I decided to take the winter-weight duvet off my bed, not anticipating that it might still snow ….which it has. Just a little, on the hilltops but with cold enough temperatures that I was a bit chilly in bed last night. So much for late spring. Interlude is an odd, difficult to define perfume which always sat like a bit of a costume, though I couldn’t say what. But today I want something cosy so am wearing Smoked Ambergris. There were three very small rabbits ( kits) playing in the cemetery yesterday, chasing each other around and then dashing back to their safe burrow, beneath a concrete grave bed. Very cute, and the parent keeping watch. Have a happy weekend.
I put my winter duvet as the fall weather I thought would be here….but it’s in the 70’s..even my plants are confused!
Just got back from a brisk walk with doggo. It’s cool, overcast, a bit grey but perfect for a walk with a scarf and hoodie. Doggo is having a post-walk snack (salmon biscuits!) and I’m about to have a hot cuppa.
Still not in the mood for big bombastic perfumes so I’m in one spritz of Fils des Dieu. I did pull the trigger on a travel size of the new LE Jo Malone. If it doesn’t work for me, I’ll have to pass it on but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.🤞
And congrats to the B-52’s for their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! About dang time! Way before I ever started roaming in real life, this album (and song) was on constant rotation in my Walkman cassette as I bombed around town on my bike, curb hopping, jiving, young, healthy, and full of joy. Yes, I did get pulled over by the Popo once for “reckless biking.” Great memories! 🚴🏻♀️

In the wise words of JadainGa, Happy FriYAY!
Robin, I hope the event for your mom is lovely!
Oh, that’s really cool about the B-52’s!
I am wearing Goutal Le chevrefeuille and drinking a cup of Irish Breakfast tea.
Goutal is my favourite house, Barqs, so I love it when someone mentions them. I love your SOTD.
There’s snow on top of the local mountains today, for the first time. Starting to really feel like fall.
My SOTD is the same as for last week’s CP: Arielle Shoshana Saturday. It works this week, because lately I’ve felt that cheerfulness is a costume I have to put on.
Up at 6:15 a.m. this morning because Ockeghem Teen was, to prep for wearing a costume to school. My services were required to do the hair, though it wasn’t hard enough really to require me. Halloween is in the top two favourite holidays for Ockeghem Teen. Of course, it’s also followed almost immediately by his birthday, making this week always one of my busiest. Not to mention everything else piling on — yesterday he had off-timetable band at 7 a.m., then my day exploded as they officially announced the organizational changes, and then I had to get him fed and to tutoring at 6, and then there was yet another school parent committee meeting at 7:30. (Again, still kicking myself for getting roped in.)
But hey, we’re on to Christmas next! All the local stores have already switched over.
Before you know it these parent committees and hair doing is all over…and they are adults and out of the house..so treasure the moments
8 months until it’s all over. I’m trying to treasure these last times doing Halloween, birthday at home, etc. But I won’t miss the parent committees, that’s for sure.
I saw Xmas stuff in some stores back in September. What a revolting development.
I’m wearing Jeroboam Gozo for the CP. This scent is not me, or rather it’s me 50 years ago, in a mini with long wavy hair, largely ignorant of the world and how it works. It’s too light and sweet for someone who has now hit their early ’70s and become rather cynical. But I will enjoy it for the day, even if it doesn’t “fit.”
I’m also making more cookies today because I ate all the others. I’m not giving any away this time, I will freeze the excess.
Good on you for making more cookies! What kind? I’m dying to try my orange/cranberry/white chocolate chip as soon as fresh cranberries make an appearance. Life is short! 🍪I ran across this little blurb of Fran Lebowitz (who I believe was born knowing the ways of the world and was never “largely ingnorant” like most folks) and started wondering what perfume I could pair with her outlook? Although, I will say I’m completely empathetic to her very last sentence. Is there a perfume for angry people I wonder? This is an open question, btw, to all the perfumistas who have decades and 100’s of perfumes under their belt, including you, Robin.

Dior Poison is my angry perfume. It’s the middle finger in scent form.
Hehehe
Excellent!
Love this, lillyjo! Along with Poison, my other choice is Aromatics Elixir. Also applied at nuclear levels. (I happen to love both scents though).
AE definitely works!
Bwahahahaha! I’d add the OG Opium to your list!
My last batch were oatmeal walnut chocolate chip, today is just plain oatmeal from here: https://www.melskitchencafe.com/thin-and-crispy-oatmeal-cookies/
I use a 1 Tbsp cookie scoop and bake them 15 minutes. Hers are twice the size.
I’ve traditionally not been super into vanilla gourmand perfumes. I love a vanilla, but when it starts to resemble food it doesn’t sit well with my senses.
So, was incredibly surprised to find that I am really, really into the Sorce Dreams and Fairy Tales (Vanilla). It is addictive. It reminds me of the vanilla from Dior Addict, but turned way down, and no florals.
I am now awaiting a vanilla sample set from Sorce lol. It’s the new me 😉
I heard the blueberry one from that line is similar to you the vanilla and is very good too.
Sorry, should say . . . similar to the vanilla one . . .
As Kanuka said, it’s been cold!!! I didn’t expect my mother’s birthday to be hit with such a relapse into winter.
I’m wearing Armani Privé Magenta Tanzanite. It’s close to being a costume, it’s sweeter than I usually like – maybe half a CP point 🙂 .
Sipping dirty chai…my FIL has stopped using black tea and now is using coffee. His homemade chai is still the best of the best, and I love drinking it and having a lazy morning…
Doctors appts and then hopefully home to read
Chai with coffee would be amazing! I hope you get to read today. I’m 1/3 of the way through A Gentleman in Moscow, and I plan to get some reading done this weekend, too.
I am reading a romantasy novel, the latest release by Sarah J. Maas, and so far there is no romance 💘 though I am still early on, lol.
I am trying really hard not to get sick so I am taking my chai with a lot of ginger and I am trying to eat a little raw garlic 🧄
Totally on brand today with Chergui.
SOTD = Jo Malone Vanilla Scotch
Wowzers! My big sample arrived yesterday and it is quite good! If there is a Splitmeet, I will offer up a split!
I had lunch today at Olive Garden with my neighbor across the street. I do like the various options and decided on shrimp scampi. In any case, it was a wonderful lunch. My only complaint is that even though she said that she does not “talk politics”, she does, to the point where I was going to say something but decided not to.
In other news, here’s another reminder from the Wall Street Journal regarding steps to take to take advantage of the Big Beautiful Bill:
https://www.wsj.com/personal-finance/taxes/what-you-can-do-now-to-cut-your-2026-taxes-a5d641d7?st=M8JyE8&reflink=article_copyURL_share
Lol to the politics talk that wasn’t supposed to happen
It seems like everyone is liking Vanilla Scotch. I will try it next time I’m in Sephora.
Sorry, not me.
Argh, how aggravating about the politics talk! That’s a good way to ruin a meal.
I will happily wear my Allure Sensuelle tonight: I can get bonus points for it already. If I had discovered it when I was 21 I would have gone insane for it. Back then I just knew the “basic” Chanels: 5, Coco Mademoiselle and 19. But at 21 years of age is when I had the pleasure of trying… °46!!
I have a Baby Shower to go to tonight together with my Daughter.
Enjoy the baby shower!
I’m wearing my unicorn, the one that got away, my forever love, Roberto Greco Œillères, thanks to a decant from a very generous NSTer.
Jicky technically started me down the lavender/vanilla rabbit how but Œillères introduced a hay note and I was a goner.
Thankfully, as I mentioned previously, another lovely NSTer gave me a sample of Sultan Pasha Joyeux and it smells so much like my beloved Œillères! So I’m either waiting until Luckyscent has a Black Friday sale or I’ll pick up a bottle in May when I go to Paris.
P.S. I get to hold “my” baby tomorrow while my sister helps her husband with some yard work. I can’t wait!🥰
Have fun!
The smell of his head!😇
Enjoy baby time!
The noises he makes!🎶
Today I’m doing 2 perfume projects, my personal Halloween one and the community project.
Christine Nagel is a favorite perfumer of mine, and for grocery shopping this morning in the spirit 👻 of the season I wore a light spritz of Chopard Madness, a creation of hers in a beautiful deep red bottle. It opens with a sharp peppery rose that softens as it deepens to its base woody notes and the palisander rosewood note I love so much.
My choice for today’s cp (which also fits my perfume project) is Givenchy Ange ou Demon. Its strong middle notes of lily, ylang-ylang and orchid are usually not to my liking, but the bottom woodsy notes, vanilla and oakmoss are. Its dual nature is intriguing, which costume should I wear?
😇 or 😈?
Song of the Day (for lillyjo):
https://youtu.be/pmfrYyEdeUU?list=RDpmfrYyEdeUU
Another foggy morning here, but that burned off to reveal a lovely late autumn day with plenty of sun and temps in the low 60’s. Good news from the latest drought monitor map shows a couple areas her in Colorado are completely out of drought now.
SOTD = back in Niki de Saint Phalle today. How does that meet the CP? Simple. When I got a bottle of the NdSP Eau Defendue, I picked something from the zodiac collection. However, I dithered for too long and couldn’t get my sign, Aquarius. So I picked the next closest one, which is Capricorn. So that is my masquerade/costume.
🎵🤘
Love them!
IIRC, you saw them in concert, right?
Not really doing the CP today, but maybe kinda sorta. It is not something I would normally wear because I didn’t think I would like it. Thanks to a wonderful NSTer I received a sample of it in the mail today. It is Chanel No 19 Poudre. I was sure it would be too green since Chanel 19 was way too green on me and smelled awful. This smelled totally different and I love it.
Glad to hear that you like No. 19 Poudre!
I didn’t do the cp, because I am still not wearing perfume.
If I had any, I might have picked 31 RC. I really like it, but it really feels out of my league. It’s very sophisticated and the wealthiest smelling Chanel. (In my opinion)
Hope you are back to wearing perfume soon.
I’m in Prada Candy. It’s definitely seasonal but also quite minimal on me. I’ve been leaning into “lesser” scents more recently. It’s quite a departure from my typical scent profile. Although yesterday I was in Insolence. Maybe it’s a sign of the times?
Prada Candy is not minimal on me, but it sure isn’t a powerhouse like some of the other scents you have mentioned recently. But it’s perfect for Halloween!
Maybe I’m not applying enough? Although I’m finishing a couple decants up before I use the bottle I got in a swap.
Yes, I seem to switch between big scents and minimal ones. I think that when I donated my fragrances, it cleared out some clutter. Makes it easy to grab something without overthinking it too much. (I still have way too much though).
