Friday scent of the day 4/25

Posted by Robin on 25 April 2025 135 Comments

Happy Friday! It’s also National DNA Day, World Penguin Day and Ella Fitzgerald’s birthday. Our community project for today: wear a lilac fragrance, if you have one. Thanks to chocolatemarzipan8 for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm out of town and having a lovely time despite nothing going to plan. So I'm quite late and may or may not be able to post again today, wearing Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil for the second day.

Reminder: 5/2: is Our Lady Donatella Versace's 70th birthday. Wear the last fragrance you purchased, or anything that you think fits the occasion.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Lots of En Passant (over Korres Lilac body milk), and I expect to see several twins here today.

By the way, today I saw several lilac bushes in bloom – just in time for the CP.

Lavishly sprayed on Vilhelm A Lilac a Day. It’s such a gorgeous lilac scent, but very fleeting on me.

Having my first cup of coffee with a splash of lavender syrup and an avocado toast.
Cloudy day, but temperatures will be in the low 70s. I am planning to take a walk outside in a few and enjoy all the spring flowers blooming everywhere.
    Happy Friday! 🌷🌸🌻

My choice for the CP is Balenciaga Le Dix, in an EDC formulation that came in a vintage gift set that also included dusting powder and a teeeeeensy bottle that I can’t get open (I sort of assume it’s extrait). The lilac note in this is way in the background, but the overall composition is absolutely gorgeous. Hey, happy Friday everyone!

Wow, I love Le Dix, but I think of it as a violet scent, never knew it contained a lilac note. Will have to see if I can sniff it out next time I wear it.

I had a look in archive and grabbed my bottle and presentation box, it was a purchase from Feb 22, so not so long ago, won for £50 and IIRC no one else was bidding. I have this stupid habit of ‘saving’ my extraits but am making a conscious effort to change😀

        • Laila says:
          25 April 2025 at 3:32 pm

I have a tiny bit of extrait, too, from a coffret of 6 classic scents my S-I-L gave me many years ago before I was even into fragrance. It’s how I discovered my love of Le Dix and violet as a scent note!

I’m wearing EL Pleasures for the CP, thanks to Glannys who pointed out that it has a lilac note. There are so many flowers in Pleasures that I can’t discern the lilac but as a whole, it smells very pretty.
Thanks to everyone for the well wishes about my mom yesterday. She absolutely loved the soup 👍
I’m doing laundry today and noting that my warm leggings and sweatshirts are in the wash from earlier this week. Hard to believe as it was 83F here yesterday.

    Hello and tgif!
Sotd is EL Beautiful. Such a big bouquet of flowers, lilac is hiding somewhere in the mix.
I have some mangoes ripening quicker than I can eat them so I diced them up and tossed them into a butter pound cake batter. Made 2 loaves and giving one away to a friend. The seeds will go into a planter and see if I can get them to grow.

Happy Friday, everyone. It’s not very spring-like today, so I’m not in my one lilac perfume – En Passant. (I’m non-compliant in Almond Suede from Arquiste.)

I’ve started a new freelance job through Netflix, (and boy does this photographer need it.) The only drawback is that when I’m in the studio I really can’t be wearing any fragrance that’s noticeable. Never thought I’d need an office friendly scent, but what can ya do? Open to any suggestions of quiet scents that aren’t boring!

Good luck with the job. I hope it leads to even more work . Maybe an Aesop perfume would be okay for work as they are kind of ‘ nature’ scents ( Marrakech Intense is a nice warm resin, or Tacit or Hwyl. ) . For a cheap easy but good perfume I like Lush Fresh As which is pine based. Also eucalyptus scents might work well

      Congrats on the job, Daniel!

I used to have to be almost-no fragrance wearing at work, when I shared a space with a very scent sensitive coworker. I usually wore just the tiniest spritz or dab of quieter fragrances, and never received a complaint. This was over 10 years ago, and my work staples then were Le Labo Gaiac, Byredo Gypsy Water, and Prada Iris d’Infusion. I would think that the FM French Lover which you shared with me would also work very well!

    Congrats on the job, Daniel.
I’m not CP compliant either. Wearing Tulipano Nero from I Profumi di Firenze, a gorgeous spicy floral mix with myrrh whose opening reminds me of vintage Opium and Cinnabar (the cinnamon and nutmeg). The myrrh & Mysore sandalwood drydown is what I wait for. I think one of you lovely people sent me a decant of this. Thank you, it’s quite gorgeous. I don’t think it’s in production anymore, what a shame.
I love this house and many of its fragrances. The Italians love their resins, woods, spices, herbals, bitters, & aromatics. The style is more Dolce Vita than the classic French fragrances with their spotlight on florals. I love them both, but the Italians bewitch me more.

In my area, lilacs don’t bloom til around Mother’s Day; now they’re first leafing out and the tiny buds are forming. We have some that border our small deck and hot tub just outside our bedroom, and I love it when it’s warm enough to leave the sliding glass door open and we can inhale their intoxicating fragrance all night!

Although I’m not much of a floral fragrance person, it’s a favorite note of mine and I have numerous lilac scents that I love to wear throughout May. For today’s cp, I pulled out Alfred Sung Sha, which used to be quite popular awhile ago but is seldom mentioned these days. Although it has a variety of floral notes, including LOTV, frangipani, heliotrope and jasmine, it’s the lilac note that is somehow strongly predominant yet in a very soft and fresh way. It’s so, so pretty and despite its softness, it lasts a long time. It was quite inexpensive when I bought it years ago but I don’t know if it can even be found now. A definite ❤️ for me!

Thanks to Mr. Laila’s addiction to an early morning radio Smart Quiz contest, we’re going to the Smithereens concert 🎸tonight. (He wins approximately 1x a month; I think maybe there’s only 3 people that listen in?😄)

Happy Arbor Day! Be sure to 🙏 a 🌲🌳today!

This is a big thing for me, I use to ride before I had kids and I really missed it. I applied and they accepted me and it’s going great.

I was reading one of those beauty pages about when to throw out cosmetics ( things like mascara six months) and it said you should get rid of perfumes after a year due to possible contamination. Clearly not written by a perfume lover. Have you heard anything re. The exam you did a while back or is it still too early? Hope it’s not creating too stressful a situation. I have some very old bottles that are still absolutely fine, stuff and nonsense, throwing them away after a year.

My exam will have to be partially retaken by all participants, postponing its results by at least two months, so probably late November.
A bit of a nightmare in a way, but I’m not too stressed about it at the moment. The downside of my lack of nerves is I can’t make myself do any preparation this time.

We will see, but thanks for remembering and asking!

It’s early morning and I’ve just been out looking at the ‘ celestial smile’ . Venus and Saturn are like two eyes with the nearby crescent moon acting as a mouth. If you go out in the northern hemisphere and look it will appear like a happy face , whereas down here the moon is a sad face. But it’s pretty cool, something to show the kids. Wearing Tresor for the lilac.

I love the. concept of the ‘happy face.’ It never fails here, whenever there’s something special happening in the night sky, that’s when we have lots of clouds! Sad face 😞!

Another fragrance I wear and love that I never knew had a lilac note, Tresor. Will have to look for that next time I wear it.

I would never have thought Trésor contained any lilac, artificial apricots, yes. I love, and treasure my bottle.
I had never heard of the celestial smile.
Hope you have a good weekend!

Smoothie is a pear from Belgium. In Insolence EDT, I prefer the brash EDT but tbh Samsara and Insolence are my least favorite Guerlains but I still like them quite a bit, tonight for the CP it’s vintage Helena Rubinstein Apple blossom, uncanny lilac and a great favorite, still smelling very fresh.

We’re representing the same house–I’m in Idylle Duet Jasmin-Lilas, an inoffensive little thing. Don’t think I’ve tried the regular Idylle or Insolence for that matter. Imagine they’re “bigger” than this Duet.

Oh so house twins😀, OG Idylle I like very much, along with Robin IIRC but it didn’t make much of a splash but at least still in production and yes, it has some presence in EDP, the EDT, very pretty is more ethereal, I get mixed up with its flankers, some were good, I have love blossom and sublime I think.

I went with Pacifica French Lilac today. I got my nose on quite a few lilacs on my walk last yesterday evening. I also smelled some amazing yellow honeysuckle at the park. Smelling flowers all throughout spring makes me so happy. 🥰

Tonight I’m excited to try a new Hong Kong restaurant in my neighborhood with a friend to belatedly celebrate our birthdays, which are 3 days apart. The menu is large so hopefully we pick some delicious dishes!

Also, tomorrow is Independent Bookstore Day for anyone that wants to plan ahead.

Isn’t it early for honeysuckle to be in bloom?

A Hong Kong restaurant sounds exciting! Never had anything from that cuisine.

Sigh, I typed a kinda long reply then accidentally hit the log out button before I found post it. Basically, I’m not convinced it’s yellow honeysuckle, but it has been hard to find what I’m looking for by Googling this specific park and “yellow flowers blooming in Seattle in April” lol. It does look pretty close to this, though it smells more creamy like ylang than typical honeysuckle smell: https://anps.org/2024/03/25/know-your-natives-yellow-honeysuckle/

I was in a hurry when I saw it at the end of my walk, but next time I’ll try to use my plant identification apps in case they can figure it out.

Ok, I didn’t go back to the park today, but I think it might be a variety of azalea/rhododendron. I saw a variety online called honeysuckle azalea that could be it. Will investigate more soon because I love the flowers!

In other news, I heard back from New York State! The acknowledgement mentioned it could take about 9 months or so to schedule an appointment. It’s better than NOT hearing back, looking at NJ Transit … I will call to follow up if I don’t hear anything back by sometime next week.

A chilly and rainy day here. Yesterday’s crazy weather marked the passing of a front which dropped temperatures by 20 degrees or so. May and June are typically the most active months for severe weather for Colorado.

SOTD = Soivohle Lilacs & Heliotrope. It’s a heady mix and exactly what it says on the label. Perfect for today’s weather.
