Friday scent of the day 4/25

Posted by Robin on 25 April 2025 135 Comments

Happy Friday! It’s also National DNA Day, World Penguin Day and Ella Fitzgerald’s birthday. Our community project for today: wear a lilac fragrance, if you have one. Thanks to chocolatemarzipan8 for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I’m out of town and having a lovely time despite nothing going to plan. So I’m quite late and may or may not be able to post again today, wearing Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil for the second day…

The perfume from purple blossoms

Posted by Robin on 7 May 2021 8 Comments

Olivia Schneider pulled down her mask and inhaled the perfume from purple blossoms, their sweetness casting the engineer back to her Wisconsin kick-the-can childhood and her mother clipping lilacs for the dinner table.

Last spring, the simple act would’ve flouted signs imposing pandemic rules for the Harvard-owned Arnold Arboretum’s more than 400 lilac bushes. “Please enjoy the lilacs from a distance,” they read, warning that they should be treated “like any other surface that can spread Covid-19.”

January Scent Project Vaporocindro ~ fragrance review

January Scent Project’s visual materials also allude to the fragrances’ notes, and with this image we’re given a preview of this scent’s “wood, spice and flower” profile…

La Parfumerie Moderne Desarmant ~ fragrance review

Posted by Kevin on 20 April 2016 19 Comments

Syringa microphylla

Lavender cologne reminds me of wash day or scented tissues. Tuberose makes me feel I’m wearing silk panties and fishnet stockings. Lilac reminds me of the silver-haired lady who arranged flowers at church.

We all have flowers we love to smell in nature but avoid in fragrances. Lavender, tuberose and lilac always are given revered spots in my garden…but not in my perfume cabinet.

La Parfumerie Moderne (founded by Philippe Neirinck in concert with Parfum d’Empire perfumer Marc-Antoine Corticchiato) recently launched Désarmant,1 a lilac scent…

Dawn Spencer Hurwitz La Belle Saison ~ fragrance review

Posted by Jessica on 7 April 2016 10 Comments

lilacs

Independent perfumer Dawn Spencer Hurwitz has just launched La Belle Saison (“The Beautiful Season”), an all-botanical fragrance designed to evoke “late Spring in full bloom.” More specifically, it’s an ode to lilac. Are we experiencing a lilac mini-trend? Vilhelm Parfumerie and Amouage are also offering lilac perfumes for Spring 2016. I haven’t tried those, but I’ve been spending a few April days with La Belle Saison.
