Happy Friday and happy Simplicity Day (aka Henry David Thoreau’s birthday). RIP Shelley Duvall. Our community project for today is Cologne part 2: wear a modern citrus-based cologne. (If it helps start you off, see 5 perfumes: (great) new wave summer colognes.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I went with Guerlain Cologne du 68.
Reminder: 7/19 will be Mint Friday...wear a fragrance with a mint note. Extra points if mint is in the name!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Morning!
Robin, I wish I bought your SOTD when it was still available-think it’s discontinued. I’m in Ninfio Mio, in the pretty green frosted glass bottle. I really love some of the special edition bottles Goutal put out-I must be part crow because I love pretty glass 🙂
Hope everyone is doing ok in the heat. We got a drop in temperatures last night then torrential rain. Back to hotter temps for the next week.
Twinning with you today. My bottle is also frosty. This was a gift from a generous NSTer
Perfume people are the best, and you smell great!
Love those bottles!
And I wish I had that pretty green bottle!
Seconding what Robin said. I wish I had picked up a green bottle version of Ninfeo Mio.
Hello and tgif!
Sotd is MFK Aqua Vitae Cologne Forte, my favourite of the 4 cologne fortes. I originally thought I had no CP scent but I remembered I bought a holiday set of minis that had these colognes. Happy me! Also, thanks to this weeks CP I realised what category of scent I am most “lacking” in my collection and needs “resolving”, ha.
Something to work on, then, ha…
Catrhusia Mediterraneo. Not really modern, but close enough to the idea of the CP.
Weather forecast scares me, especially for Saturday, Sunday and Monday. And even after that it is only marginally better. We are experiencing record-breaking temperatures for this area.
Robin, you chose CPs well – cologne, cologne, mint. 🍋🍋🌿
I love that scent!
I’m sorry to hear about your weather situation. It seems that the whole world. Is roasting. 🥵
Ugh, sorry the heat wave has made it over to you. Fingers crossed you keep power. And water.
Hope that your heat wave breaks sometime soon.
I’m wearing Mugler Cologne. I was going to wear Azemour, but the Mugler smelled better to me.
I can’t believe I did not wear either of those this week! I had planned to. And to wear something Astier Villatte.
I had planned to be twins with Glannys in Mediterraneo today, but the hand went to the small decant of Jour d’Hermes Absolu instead. No regrets! This will probably be the next FB to join my little collection … unless the new Fazzolari gets in the way. His soaps are very nice, btw.
And his limonata soap is back in stock 🙂
I saw that! I’m slowly making my way through a bar of the Bouquet Garni soap — it’ll be years before that’s down to a sliver — but the limonata one is tempting!
Ninfeo Mio
Ninfeo Mio is greens baked in the sun. Very tranquil, suppose to smell like the Gardens of Ninfa in Italy. I have never been-but this fragrance transports me there…
I feel super chic anytime I wear Goutal. My favorite being Songes
me too, Lovestosmellgood! I miss the matching line of things to go with each scent-to me that is so elegant. It would have been beyond my budget before, but any chance I got to try the creams it was the most luxurious experience.
Ninfeo Mio is an excellent summer Goutal!
Is 1977 modern? I’m in the original Eau de Courrèges, a brilliant citrus cologne laced with greenery and wisps of sandalwood and oakmoss in the base. It’s spectactular, one of my happiest, most serendipitous blind buys.
Yes, that’s modern! Well, according to me. 😆
I was just looking for older bottles of Courrèges Blue. Should have bought one way back! And the Eau as well, from your description. Enjoy!
In cologne terms, it’s very modern!
I’m battling a lousy summer cold, and I needed a pick-me-up, so I’m wearing Artisan Pure from John Varvatos. (Every now and then, they come up with a winner.) It’s a straightforward, classic citrus/herbal cologne – thankfully, there’s nothing “aquatic” about it, and it doesn’t push the woodsy notes too far.
Happy Friday, all!
Yep, that one is a winner for sure.
Hope the cold gets better quickly Daniel!
Get better soon! Good perfume choice.
Hope that your cold goes away ASAP!
Thanks for the kind wishes, folks!
I’m wearing Bigarade Concentrée by JCE for Frédéric Malle.
An Dutch etailer was getting rid of a lot of perfume at reduced prices and I must have got it then. A beautiful scent by one of the greats.
I hope everyone has a good weekend, hopefully with water and electricity!
Have a good weekend, Austenfan. I might see some daffodils today if I’m lucky.
Back in Eau d’Hadrien, def the proper time of year for this one.
Has anyone tried the Soak laundry products for handwashing? Wirecutter rates it highly, but am skeptical of the no-rinse aspect.
It’s on Amazon, but the Soak site had a sampler set for something like $60 that’s currently sold out. Intrigued by the yuzu and wild mint scents–not typical choices.
House twins
I have used Soak. I prefer Eucalan, and I know at least one indie yarn dyer who says NOT to use Soak on her yarns because of concerns about it taking out color. I have never had that happen with either product. OTOH there are other Big Names in the yarn world who prefer Soak.
Eucalan, no surprise, contains lanolin, so that would be an issue for people who are allergic.
The no-rinse has never been a problem. The scent of the washing product does linger f
…for a while, but I do not find it overpowering. My favorite is Eucalan jasmine (sometimes sold as “Wrapture”), but I also like the lavender version. For Soak, I have only tried “Lacey,” and don’t love it. YMMV.
I use these products for almost all of my handwashing; synthetic fibers (bras, stockings, tights) and above all, wool. I also use it for my handspun or hand knit garments.
Soak sells single-use packets and I have used those while traveling to wash laundry in the hotel sink. The scents are strong (so much so that I wouldn’t use it as my everyday laudry detergent) but my (annoyingly) sensative skin has had no ill effects from the no-rinse aspect.
I use Soak and I like the unscented version.
JM Orange Marmalade on one arm and Atelier Orange Sanguine on other. Side by side they are different, the latter much more photrealistic,
Love Orange Sanguine!Smelling good over there!
Thanks!
What do you think of Orange Marmalade?
It is nice, with a bit of woodiness, which I would not want in my marmalade irl…
Chanel Paris-Venise(Venice?Not sure…)for the CP!
Fairly light but a gorgeous iris note hums in the background. It’s pretty!
Happy Friday!
🌹✌🏻
You smell great!
Venise is a nice Eau, although oddly, I seem to like the shower gel even more
Scent cousins with you today!
Twinning, tripling, quadrupling with many here in house (AG) and scent (Ninfeo Mio) today. Wore SL Une Bois Vanille yesterday.
A host here said her thermometer read 102F yesterday. And that was in the shade. Cannot wait for summer to be done done done!
Stay cool, and please remember pets cannot tolerate this heat either. I have to force my dog to come in because she would sit in the sun all day on prairie dog watch if she could. Take care of your four legged kids!
Please do keep an eye on the doggo — I see that they’ve found plague (yes, THAT plague) in prairie dogs in the Badlands.
Oh, yuck! I heard rabies is making a resurgence, too. She’s always on lead here, but she is quick! I walk her to and from the office on work days as she is the official “greeter.” She can catch a mouse in less than second as it scurries along the outside walls of the building. I never even see them. The prairies dog and mice are so numerous here it’s awful. The mice are the worst because they’re always trying to get in buildings to nest. The guy next to me has a big class A motor home and has had mice in his rig multiple times this season. 🐁 I don’t have anything against mice per sé, and in fact think they’re cute as all get out, but I don’t want mice tippity-tapping across my dishes, getting into foodstuffs and leaving little brown gifts everywhere. 😖 Will research the plague issue. This is gross so don’t read further if you’re sensitive, but I read a few years ago a biologist found a dead something or other, large like a bear iirc, and decided to do a necropsy in the field and as soon as he punctured with his scalpel, all the gasses and droplets from the abdominal cavity blew into his face. He later died of plague. 😳
Egad. What a horribly mistaken idea that was on that biologist’s part.
Omg! That’s insane. Imagine the instant regret.
Gross!
I am not sure why I kept reading, but indeed I was sorry I did.
Plague is endemic in Prairie Dog colonies. Don’t let your dogs go hunting there. If they do wander through one, wash them well and use heavy duty flea powder- the fleas are the disease vector. Doctors are often unfamiliar with the early symptoms, and a few, like 2 or four people die of the plague in Wyoming, and other states where prairie dog colonies thrive, every year, just because it doesn’t get identified in time. Not an easy way to die.
Well, white tailed prairie dogs are all over here. No way to avoid them. Hopefully, we won’t die! I do use Simparica Trio monthly for the dog but I’m not positive this “prevents” flea bites or if it actually poisons them after the bite. I’ll have to research that. I don’t let my dog hunt anywhere and have taught her NOT to chase wildlife when off leash (fairly successful with that) but if I’m walking her on the leash and she dives for a mouse that I am unaware of, not too much I can do about that. She’s fast! I have always been more concerned about her diving after snakes, honestly. Thanks for the info!
I think it probably takes multiple exposures, to fleas, or eating an animal that has died of the plague to get a large enough dose to actually get sick, like the icky story of the guy who got drenched, you know? Hot running water and lots of soap on your body, your pets, your clothes and your vehicles all contribute to low infection rates…leave your hiking boots outside, too!
Good to know, thank you!
Bubonic plague is a fact of life here in Colorado. It’s in the prairie dog colonies here, too. AFAIK it’s endemic in the entire Four Corners region. Fortunately human exposure is rare.
Sisley Izia and a cup of black tea 🙂
Love Izia. Smelling good!
Corfu Kumquat from Aedes de Venustas!
I had some homemade kumquat preserves for breakfast this morning. Kumquats rule!
Love fresh kumquats as a nibble!
Hello all!
A bit exhausted from Hurricane Beryl, but I did evacuate to Dallas. I had to come back Wednesday for class on Thursday. I honestly wouldn’t have but I couldn’t drop the class. Surely the professor could have been a bit more accommodating. She said more than half the class dropped, after all….
I’m in L’Eau Azteque from IUNX, which is about 15 minutes of pear and an hour of ambrette. I enjoy it.
Have a great day everyone!
I hope your return is uneventful!
So far! There’s some worry about some of the water plants not having power though….
I hope you have power and water at home? So happy you evacuated with baby Jicky and stayed safe! And that professor?! What an 🍑🎩!
Yes, have water and power. The professor is trying to be accommodating but imagine asking students to come back when half don’t have power…? I put that as much on the university though.
I’m judging that professor badly, too. Inhuman.
Glad you stayed safe and back to a livable home soon!
Thank you! So far so good.
Wow, that’s a very unsympathetic professor. I’m sorry to hear you’ve had to deal with evacuating and class. Wishing you a restful weekend!
Thank you. Unfortunately have a lot of school work to make up for the missed days this weekend.
Sounds rough so I hope things improve for the weekend. Sounds like your professor needs to brush up on people skills.
She’s being accommodating so far but I’m not sure why we have class this week…?
I’m glad you evacuated.
Boo to the professor!
Thank you! Only a month of this class to go! 😅
Glad to hear that you evac’ed and came back to power and water. That prof sounds horribly obnoxious. Hope you give her an honest evaluation after your class is done.
I’m curious to see how this class goes….
I am not sure that I am compliant with the CP, but am wearing one of my favorite scents this summer. Eau des Merveilles.
Being happy with your SOTD beats any CP!
That’s what I thought😊
CP points for me, in Berdoues’ Assam of India. Very refreshing! It’s SO hot here.
Twins 👯♀️
That’s great, because you have excellent taste! I hope you and yours are doing well.
Trying Zara Angelic Vanilla today which I bought in store a couple months ago but never broke into. Notes are below. Getting cherry/almond in the opening…assume it’s the almond blossom note but finding it a bit cloying so far…like cherry flavored liquid meds for kids type smell. eheheh 🍒💉
Top notes: bergamot, almond blossom.
Middle notes: rose, rice, myrrh.
Base notes: tonka bean, liquid musk, vanilla beans, velvety wood.
She-ra, I think that Zara has Romance d’Iris in stock again. If you decide to get it, please let me know what it’s like. I don’t need more iris scents, but might get it if people here think it is worth adding to my collection.
Also interested in Romance d’Iris. Is it possible to have too many iris scents? I’m also wondering about the rice note in there; to me it sounds like it should be a good one!
I was wondering about the rice too. It was in some other scent I had once. Maybe Love by Chloe?
Yes, I believe that one has rice. Kenzo Amour also has it. Both great fragrances!
I saw that too…decisions, decisions…I am spending too much time on Zara’s website. 😅
Cherry kids’ medicine? Yuck. Hope that doesn’t stick around.
Joining Old Herbaceous in Assam of India! ☀️🧡🐘 This is my old standby when it’s hot. Thunderstorm are predicted for this afternoon and tomorrow, but it looks as if they will do nothing to mitigate the heat. Ugh.
Yay! And we are in excellent company — see below!
You are so right!
Berdoues Assam of India
I love it. We smell great!
Is this the elephant one?
(butting in to say Yep!)
Good afternoon!
I’m in Cacti from Régime des Fleurs. (Disclosure: I won this bottle in an online giveaway, thanks to the friend who tagged me!) Lots of bergamot plus jasmine and green tea. Very refreshing!
It sounds very nice!
Congratulations on the perfume win!
I had plans for various options to wear today, but ended up just going back to Pomelo Paradis because I was running late. And it is just sooooo good!
Good reasons 🙂
I’m in FM Bigarade Concentree, the favorite cologne that I’ve tried this summer.
TGIF! The past couple of days were too busy at work to comment. Yesterday I wore Aqua Universalis from a sample. I’ve been wanting to try it for awhile. Seems like something that would be right up my alley but there was something in it that bothered me. Almost a bitter or rancid note. Not bad enough to scrub, but definitely a no for me.
This weekend is supposed to be hot and humid. Again.🥵
They said the humidity will be the worst of the summer here.
Yep, same, I just watched the weather. Yuck. Thank gosh for ac!
We are getting heat and humidity through Monday.
Ew, a rancid note in perfume sounds like a very big NOPE! 🤢
Haha, right!🤣 money saved.
Not awful weather today. Worn out from phone calls with medical system, machinery repair places of various sorts (lawn mower, travel trailer). Why is it so complicated to pay a bill, or make an appointment to get something fixed?
I put on something that smells pretty this morning, but I don’t even know what it is. Pretty sure a good nap will help!
Hope you got a nap in. Those phone calls are exhausting.
Good nap!
Bleah. A day of difficult phone calls sounds like a drag.
I got some appointments set. Just like pulling teeth, though.
Freschiiissimo for its lime note today. Probably the closest I get to a cologne in my collection
And close enough! Hope all is well thegoddessrena.
I’m in a motel in a small rural town in the foothills of the Southern Alps, a very pretty spot but chilly. Luckily the bed has an electric blanket as it got cold at dark. I love the dark nights that go with these places, a real void of black sky. Driving down I saw some newborn lambs tottering to their feet next to the ewe. I reckon they were less than a day old as they had that slightly bedraggled look. Sheep are left in the paddocks over winter ( same with cows) but are often brought down from the hills, to miss the worst of the snow. Anyway, the final drive home today, across the plains and down the coast. Wearing Twilly Tutti Frutti which is light but not a cologne. Lots of mimosa in flower now, splashes of yellow amongst popping up randomly in the shelter belts.
How beautiful it sounds!
You are such an artist with words, Kanuka! I feel as if I’ve actually seen these scenes you depict. 🙂
I’m wearing Cedrat Enivrant for the CP. I have so many citrus scents, they are notes I love.
Scout Kitty looks a couple of pounds lighter after her groom and seems glad to have gotten rid of the excess fluff. She won the “Sweetest Cat of the Day” award. I bet they say that to all the owners.
Aww.. that’s cute they give out awards.
Glad to hear that your kitty is happy about her spa day.
Frozen mango and yogurt smoothie
18C today, cloudy with some sun intervals, in spite of that I did the CP with Guerlain Cologne du Parfumeur and tonight it’s VC&A Ambre Imperial.
That’s pretty chilly for July.
Yes, isn’t it, no summer so far.
I’d love to share some heat with you! 🔥🔥🔥
Yes, I noticed that it’s a heatwave where you are, a happy medium would be perfect for us.
SOTM was Nicolai Cologne Sologne, and SOTA is Clementine California, so I started the day smelling like the blossom and now I’m smelling like the fruit ripening in sunlight. I might go for Orange Marmelade tonight to complete the life cycle.😂
Tea today is Earl Grey Creme to complement my colognes.
Any kind of Earl Grey tea is delicious when iced! 😋 Have you ever tried it that way?
And I had an Earl Grey this afternoon too 🙂
It’s Saturday morning and I have a hair appointment, my determination never to see my natural hair colour makes these very frequent events. I think I’ll wear Encens Satin.
So far, I’m just sitting on the couch with the cat curled up on my lap and I hate to move her. My beloved thinks I’ve become quite feeble-minded over Phaedra, but I’m very happy to be treated as furniture by a cat 🙂
“determination to never see my natural hair color…” Ha! Everyone has a hobby…
My Aunt lived to be 94 and I never knew her to not be a brunette. I plan on taking the same route.
I have a friend who would LOVE to have a lapcat. Hers is very definitely not one.
Wore AA Pampelune layered over BBW Grapefruit lotion this morning. It was nice while it lasted but it’s now been covered by layers of sunscreen.
Thinking of PL67; I hope she’s OK. She was the one who spoke highly of Pampelune last year and caused a lemming for me.
She’s Ok
Aww! Thank you CM8!
🩷
Thanks for letting us know, I’ve also been thinking of PL67!
I was also thinking of perfumelover67 last night. Appreciate the update!
While technically not a citrus cologne, my choice for today’s cp couldn’t be more citrus – main notes are lime, lemon and bergamot – and with its touch of mint for added freshness, YR My Green Summer edt (2019) layered over BBW’s White Citrus products is extremely refreshing on a hot 🌞 day. Despite the ‘Green’ in its name, the only green in the scent is from the lime and mint, I smell nothing grassy. Really like this one.👍
Since we skipped our June mini-trip, we’re taking a long staycation weekend. Started last night, a beautiful one weatherwise, with an outdoor concert 🎶 featuring a great local band, Billy Elton. (Yep, playing the best of Billy Joel & Elton John). Dinner tonight with friends, then going to see another of our favorite musicians, Jim Green, who plays a unique style of finger-picking, percussive guitar. Tomorrow we’re taking almost-17 grandson to a Sox game – haven’t spent a day with just him since he was 8 or 9, can’t wait!❤️. Ending the weekend with a Sustainability Garden Walk on Sunday. Hope the weekend thunderstorms stay away!🤞
Wishing everyone a great weekend ahead. ✌️ and 💗 to all.
Your scents and weekend both sound great, Laila! Enjoy!
Enjoy that baseball game with the grandson! ⚾
Sounds like a great time. Enjoy!
I have had a crazy hectic work today and needed something to help me cope and I was working from home so I sprayed myself generously with Providence Perfume Company Tangerine Thyme. It’s such a gorgeous incense based citrus fest and it helps me calm down and relax.
I wish a had a sample of Abel’s Laundry Day to try today, it promises to be a very interesting new citrus scent. I meant to order it but never got around to it. Wonder if anyone has tried it..?
Sorry, meant to say „crazy hectic work day today” – my brain is scrambled eggs
Hope you can relax over the weekend!
Oh, and I still have some Tangerine Thyme…thanks for the reminder!
Hope the weekend makes up for the hectic day.
I didn’t sleep well and ending up getting up late for work this morning. I am picking up pizza for dinner and hope to sleep well tonight.
Sotd is Orange Sanguine. I love it but it’s fleeting in this humidity.
Oh no with not sleeping well! Good luck for good sleep tonight!
Fingers crossed 🤞
Yay for a takeout pizza dinner! 🍕 I hope you sleep well tonight.
Thanks! Me too.
I just don’t have it in me to cook tonight.
Orange Sanguine is so good! I remember testing it at Sephora eons ago and ultimately slept on it.
Hope you get a good sleep tonight! Enjoy the pizza.
Hope your night was more restful.
SOTD = Jo Malone Mallow on the Moor
Seriously wonderful. For a Cologne, this has quite a bit of longevity! Love!

I was surprised when I stopped by Home Goods. I thought I would already see Christmas stuff but nooooo, they managed to display the beginnings of Halloween. More pictures to come for sure!
https://www.instagram.com/p/C9VqVfrRCyE/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
I took down the summer displays this week. It was replaced by back to school!
Back to School! There were HUGE signs at the Dollar (+$0.25) Store …
I saw some Halloween stuff at Costco on Monday. I was NOT amused.
And lillyjo, there have been SO many back to school ads on TV and the radio here. It seems that some schools start up in about a month…
They go back the 3rd week of August here.
I haven’t been back to Costco in a few weeks … I really should go again but it is just way too humid – ugh!
I saw Pumpkin Chai candles today, first sighting of 2024. (Of course they have probably been around for weeks and I just didn’t notice)
More J B approved temperatures here today. At one point, the weather widget on my laptop said that it was 102 degrees F (38.9 degrees C). I am hunkered down in the A/C.
The little bat is still in the corner of the outside hallway. I hope it isn’t injured or sick.
SOTD = back in Paris-Deauville EdT and Bliss’ Grapefruit and Aloe body butter. Fits in perfectly with this CP!
102! I hope you don’t have to go out for anything.
Nope!
I am keeping an umbrella handy as a parasol. It made a huge difference on my walk yesterday. ☂️
You smell wonderful!
Thanks!
I am wondering what Paris-Paris and Paris-Edimbourg smell like. But keeping my credit card away from the perfume counter for now!
Oof, that’s hot! The poor bat; hope it’s just trying to stay out of the elements.
Your sotd sounds crisp and refreshing!
I will keep an eye on the bat. Hopefully it moves on after the heat wave breaks,
Paris-Deauville is quite crisp and refreshing! Definitely worth a sniff.
I know you smell great!
Thank you! 😉
Hiiiii Cousin!
Stay cool!
It will be 25 celcius here today!
6:13 am,wide awake because on my way to the farmers market that starts at 6:30.
Happy weekend!
25 degrees C sounds really good for a high temp! But it has been dropping off to around 60 degrees F (15 degrees C) at night. Dry air and altitude.
Enjoy the farmers market!
I follow your updates on the little bat, I love bats.
Busy busy week at home and at work. The major projects never seem to end!
I’m in VC&A Neroli Amara.
Hope you can take some time to smell the perfumes!
Late posting, distracted by the Tour de France! Speaking of France, do any of you have any experience with Air Tahiti Nui?
My new wave summer cologne is Le Dieu Cerf by Ralf Schwieger for Etienne de Swardt (ELdO). He created the fragrance for St. Eustache, a church in Paris where he is a parishioner. I purchased it at the church last summer when we were in Paris.
