Happy Friday and happy World Chocolate Day! Our community project for today: wear a perfume with a chocolate note, with bonus credit if chocolate (or something related to chocolate) is in the name. If you don't have a perfume with a chocolate note, partial credit for wearing something with a note you like to eat with chocolate.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Sarah Jessica Parker Covet. (And a little PSA: it's been a busy week and I am terribly behind. I have not even read Wednesday's damage poll yet. I hope to catch up by Sunday.)
Reminder: 7/14 is Bastille Day. See if you might possibly have anything French in your collection? Extra points for extra-French-ness, or for silly perfume Frenchification. (This is a repeat from 2017).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Joining you in a busy week Robin. 4th of July weekend through Tuesday was fun but exhausting….
Weather is too warm for it, but I’m getting CP points for Gourmand Coquin. Boozy chocolate.
Going to see a local theater company tomorrow night – Daddy Long Legs. I loved the movie as a teen, and I still love it despite the ridiculous age disparity of Astaire and Caron. This music will be different, but should still be fun.
I love that movie, too 🙂 I hope you have a great time.
I loved both the book and the movie. Have fun!
Have not seen that in years…hope it is wonderful!
What could be more chocolate than CSP Amour de Cacao? It’s like a pan of brownies fresh out of the oven. It’s been my ultimate comfort scent for decades — I have the old brushed-aluminum 100-mL canister with the turquoise print on it. I never, ever tire of it.
Speaking of CSP, I swore I wasn’t going to buy any scents this year but there was a sale on the brand at Sephora last weekend and I bought two: a backup bottle of Vanille Abricot, which I never want to be out of (it’s my other comfort scent), and Vanille Banane, which is just so ridiculous and delightful. I haven’t opened either yet: I’m saving them as a birthday present to myself next month. I might even wrap them.
Oh yay! Love Vanille Banane and I should buy Vanille Abricot too.
I remember! I was in Sephora just poking around and I sprayed some on my hand, which I normally never do, and it was so charming that I thought, “I am probably going to have to buy this, and Robin liked it, so….” I thought about it for a week and then on the last day of the sale I said to heck with my resolution and bought it. Really looking forward to opening it in August!
And I mean Vanille Abricot is such a standby — it belongs in just about everyone’s collection, and at a very reasonable price. I hope they haven’t reformulated it much if at all.
Also I wonder if the 2 layer together nicely?
But you won’t be able to tell me until August! That is will power, to be able to wait so long, good for you.
I used to get lots of CSP bottles years ago. You reminded me my love of Vanille Abricot and Vanille Banane. I should order!!
I am wearing Maison Margiela Replica Matcha Meditation. According to the manufacturer, the pyramid is as follows:
TOP NOTES
– Bergamot essence:
– Mandarin essence
– Green tea accord
MIDDLE NOTES
– Orange Flower absolute
– Jasmine accord
– Matcha accord
BASE NOTES
– Benzoin absolute
– Moss accord
– White Chocolate accord
The dominant notes are definitely matcha and green tea mixed with what I would describe as a vanilla cookie note (could be mix of benzoin and white chocolate?). Benzoin becomes more noticeable over the time. There is a bit of jasmine and citrus, but I am not getting orange blossom here, unfortunately. There is some sharp and synthetic sweetness I do not like.
Overall, not a bad scent, but something bothers me in it. Like some of the notes do not work here for me. So this one is not for me.
Too bad it doesn’t ‘t work, because it sounds like it has potential. The ingredient list made me wonder, how does a white chocolate accord differ from a milk or dark chocolate accord? I suppose it does but am having trouble picturing it (or “imagine-smelling” it).
Jumping in here as a lover of all varieties of chocolate to wear (and eat!) and as someone with a few scents with white chocolate notes, I’d say there’s a degree of creaminess to it that’s different from milk or especially dark chocolate, coupled with just a hint of chocolately smell rather than a full inhale.
I’m guessing the synthetic is ambroxan. I’ve gotten that note in the base of all the scents I’ve tried from that line.
I’m guessing Ambroxan too. Both Coffee Break and Bubble Bath are riddled with it, though it’s not listed on the notes
That could be it! I suspect that after years of exposure to all kinds of scents I developed sensitivity to either ambroxan or iso e super (or both). Up to the point that I stopped liking some perfumes I had used to like. One memorable example is JHAG Calamity J., which I used to like so much that I bought a FB. At some point a cloying note began to bother me more and more and totally ruined that scent for me. And apparently Calamity J. has both these components.
When I tried both Replica Tea Escape and Replica Matcha Meditation, they strongly reminded me of Green Tea flavored Pocky. Green tea, vanilla cookies, and a creamy white chocolate note.
I thought about wearing Match Meditation for the CP because I don’t have any other scents with a chocolate note, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I bought a travel sized thinking I like it, however something about it turns my stomach. Maybe because it is too sweet for me. My skin chemistry seems to amplify sweet scents and it can become cloying when I wear certain ones, hence why I have no chocolate scents or gourmand scents in my collection.
Its warm and sunny today ☀️☀️☀️ (hard to imagine right now a storm hit our country last wednesday).
So I chose something refreshing to wear: eau de narcisse bleu
One of my favourites from the Hermès cologne series.
No connection at all to the cp, chocolate note does not work for me during warm weather… could have chosen for something fruity though. Because chocolate tastes awesome with raspberry… strawberry… mango… orange etc etc 😋
Eau de narcisse bleu is one of the two fragrances, along with Eau de gentiane blanche, that I haven’t tried from the Hermès colognes. My favourite is Eau de néroli doré which has had its distribution tightened recently, not being as popular as others in the line.
Gorgeous sunny day here, and sunny weekend ahead. Big project is over-we did ok, and now I feel like I can relax into summer-no more overtime or working weekends for a long time!
SOTD is Bigarade Concentre, and we can find orange and chocolate in Terry’s chocolate orange. I only like oranges as oranges-not mixed with anything else lol.
I hope everyone has a really good Friday, and I’m looking forward to reading about all the beautiful SOTD’s 🙂
Yay for completing the project! Chocolate orange sounds good right about now.
Congratulations on completing the big project!
Thank you both so much-was epic, in my mind-now it’s over and we did well 🙂
Gorgeous sunny day twins!🌞
Thank you 🙂
Congratulations! You smell great.
Congratulations on finishing big project!
Huzzah for getting that major project completed!
A cooler, somewhat rainy day. The dog and I got soaked on our way back to the house. So we had a wash, and now I’m in 4160 Tuesdays Over the Chocolate Shop for full points.
Scent twin with you! We smell great!
I’m in Chocolate+ layered with Chilehead, both from Dame. Unfortunately, very chocolatey Chocolate+ is overpowering Chilehead, even though I sprayed more Chilehead. For those who want a one-note chocolate scent this is it. Unfortunately we are under another heat warning, so it is not working today.
Oh, I love Dame’s chocolate but can’t imagine wearing it on a hot day. Never thought of layering that and Chilihead, which I also enjoy, but will wait until well into fall to try that out!
Claiming CP points in Angel Taste of Fragrance, along with some sparkly Angel body powder. I placed the powder discreetly under clothing but there’s still silver sparkles all over the place. I will enjoy looking at my twinkling arms while I run mundane errands this morning. Happy Friday everyone!
Haha, twinkling arms. That’s awesome.✨
You have the body powder!?
Year’s ago, I had the shimmer powder beads. I loved them so much, but not enough to keep them in a safe spot apparently. My daughter got ahold of them and for whatever reason ran them under the bathroom faucet.
I just have a sample size container of the powder, I think someone here sent it to me years ago. That sad about your shimmer beads 🙁
We are scent cousins today!
I am wearing Dame Chocolate+ which is straight up chocolate. I layered over some Tauer Wowilla oil to try to tame it a little. I think I would have preferred Robin’s Covet, which I love, and just has a hint of chocolate…
We probably could have switched today, I love straight up chocolate!
I’m in Coromandel and wondering how many others will join me today. Adding this to the list of why don’t I wear this everyday.
I’m in the best of moods today. It’s my day off, the sun is shining, the skies are blue and the unbearable temps have dropped. This morning was a pleasant 64 degrees out. I grabbed my book and walked over to one of my neighborhood coffee shops and enjoyed a latte outside while I read. Wish I could start everyday that way.
I think the real reason for my good mood though is that my parents are back from Florida! After 9 long months.🥹 They made wisconsin last evening and they come right through my city on the way home, so I met them for dinner. Yes, even at 55 years old I still miss my mom and dad. I was so happy to see them. My dad gives the best hugs.
Sounds like a perfect day so far!
It’s the perfect day here too🌞
Yay for your parents being back!
That’s nice that your parents are back!
I am 70 and would give anything for a hug from mom and dad.
so extra hug ’em for me.
So glad your parents returned safely and that you had a nice family outing. Simple family pleasures are the best!
Good news that your parents are back from FL safe and sound!
In Jo Malone Bitter Orange & Chocolate for the CP 😍
Another hot, humid, crazy, busy day. I am so glad is Friday! Back to read comments later.
Happy Friday! 🌻
Hope your day goes by quickly!
A couple of more hours and I am done!
Have a good Friday too.
Thank you, Aurora!
Hope your day is going by quickly. Orange and chocolate sounds good. I have a sample of Olympic Orchids California Chocolate which is the same scent profile.
Thank you, Gail!
I had a bottle of Olympic Orchids Seattle Chocolate long time ago. It was very nice. I have not tried California Chocolate, but I am sure it is also another great chocolate scent from OO.
Thinking of you and sending 🤗 🤗 and wishes for peace and strength your way,
Thank you, Laila! I deeply appreciate it! 🌻
Thinking of you, pl67! *hugs*
Thank you, MossyBerry! 🌻
Hello everyone!
Thank you so much for your congratulations! It was such a rainy day yesterday that Jicky and just relaxed. Today’s project is packing.
Claiming partial points in Coromandel parfum. It doesn’t have the chocolate note listed but there’s still a glimmer of it in the heart.
Have a great day everyone!
Have a wonderful time in Iceland! Can’t wait to hear about your trip. You will be amazed. Keep in mind that even if it’s cold, those long days of sunlight (if you have some) can result in a sunburn! I visited a folk art museum that had a lot of fascinating things including old tools, fabrics and wonderful belts and jewelry, fishing items, and even several sod houses you could go into to see how they lived in older times.
Thank you so much! I’m so excited to go. We’ll have to catch up afterwards.
Hey… I saw a video last night confirming that some of the Hermes perfumes will be discontinued. I’m not sure of the exact one’s though.
My cart’s getting really big. 🙁
I rewore Vanilla Galante again this week. So sad to lose it.
Lillyjo, do you recall which video you watched? I want to know about these discontinued scents! 😭
Coromandel is wonderful! What perfume are you thinking for your trip to Iceland? I am jealous of your trip!
You’ll get there one day! I haven’t decided honestly. Something light since I’m not going alone, probably.
Looking forward to hearing about your exciting trip!
I’ll definitely report back!
I just looked up the sunrise and sunset times (3.18am sunrise, 11.45 pm sunset) and was envious. Don’t forget to pack your eye mask/ covers!
Yes that sounds so surreal!
Have a wonderful and safe trip. Sounds fantastic!
Thank you very much.
Safe travels! Maybe you will see the Northern Lights?
They’re usually not active during these months but it is possible. Fingers crossed.
I’d heard something about how the sun is approaching a maximum of activity in the near future. So things like solar prominences and the like would be on the upswing.
Oh that would be awesome! I hope it happens soon.
Today’s frag has catapulted me back to the mid ’90s–Eau de Charlotte from Goutal. Blackberry jam plus cocoa. Used to wear this quite a bit back in the day. Wonder if they still sell it? And where does the time go?
They do still make it! A bit pricey at 160€ for 100mL, although I guess that’s not out of the ordinary these days. I had a bottle of it once upon a time, received in a swap, and after a while I swapped it away again: charming, but really not me.
As for the time, well, who knows where it goes? But it certainly does go! I can hardly believe the year is already more than half over.
I thought about buying that for my daughter, once upon a time (for reasons that are probably obvious), but she was too young then. I wonder if she would like it now? (Though €160 is an awful lot for a teen,.)
Galbanumgirl, I got a bottle last year from fragrance net for $68 CDN. Just food for thought 🙂 And it still smells exactly the same 🙂
Glad to learn it! Goutal has changed the bottles too frequently (we have 3 or 4 kinds of bottles in the past decade, don’t we?) I was worried about the reformulation. Some said Sables has been watered down. Nice to learn that Eau de Charlotte is still the same!
I completely forgot about Charlotte, I get more rose than chocolate in that one. It’s very pretty though.
Oh, I love this one and almost wore this one today, too. It always makes me feel like I’m 12 again when I wear it! 😊
I need to get Charlotte out!
Wearing Courtesan today while making a shopping list for when I get off work tonight. Was just waiting for a paycheck to go grocery shopping. Was thinking of Coromandel but that would have been too much for work and plus my mom doesn’t like it.
You smell wonderful – hope your shopping goes quickly!
Although I love chocolate as something to eat, I never felt the urge to smell of it. My options for today’s project, therefore, were rather limited. I did, however manage to dig up a somewhat oldish decant of Serge Lutens’s “Vétiver oriental” I last used about two years ago.
Well … it says it has a chocolate note in the note list and I remember it having a chocolate note when I last wore it but, somehow, there doesn’t seem a sliver of chocolate in sight (or rather in sniff) today. So, no idea whether that counts for the CP :-).
It chocolate is listed, it counts! Plus you always get points for trying 🙂
We are (finally!) having a cool, cloudy morning here, and I am celebrating in one spritz (believe me, that’s plenty) of the very odd but wonderful Ganymede. My MIL left a box of See’s chocolates here after her visit last week, so I’ll mark chocolate day by having one of them for breakfast. Happy Friday all!
Triple points for eating Chocolate for breakfast!
😁
It was always going to be Akro Dark for this Friday. It’s a very strong and rather dry chocolate and imho a great fragrance. Have a great weekend everyone!
ohhhhhhhhhhhhh. yum.
I hope you have a happy weekend,too.
Completely out of it with this week’s CP and comments, and chocolate wouldn’t have made sense for me anyway, since it’s so hot in Greece right now. I do think I may have to try a chocolate week when I get home, though, as I got a chocolate sampler pack from Scentrique early this year.
I’m in Crete now, and just saw lovely 2000-3000 year old perfume bottles in the Anthropological Museum. Then I walked home and saw walls of knock-off perfumes being sold by the ml. 🙂
Wow! The 2000-3000 year old perfume bottles sound quite interesting! Marked. Hope I can pay a visit some day 😉
That’s so cool that you saw both things in one day.
Sounds like you are having an amazing time!
Been surfing the sample sea all week and had more chocolate note perfumes that I thought. Still have a couple I haven’t worn this week, but today I’m closing it out Il Profumo Chocolat. Notes are, per luckyscent-
mandarin, nutmeg, sandalwood, galbanum, cocoa, plum, jasmine, yellow rose, vanilla
I get a delicate chocolate and some nice florals and fruits. If you told me this was a chocolate centric perfume I wouldn’t believe you. It’s quite lovely and so far one my favorites. It’s cooled down a bit here but this is one that would work equally well in the heat.
On a non-perfume note how cool is it that Ivory Man is a woman?! I love it when history has the last laugh. 😂
https://www.reuters.com/lifestyle/spains-entombed-ivory-lady-reveals-leadership-role-women-antiquity-2023-07-06/
What a great story, thank for the link Deva!
Very cool story! Thanks for sharing.
Still going through samples, and today is P d’Empire Vetiver Bourbon. Love at first sniff, but then I love anything vetiver. This somehow reminds me of the ocean, even though there’s no “marine” note in sight. Elegant and sophisticated, FBW.
Is it inky? I think that’s when vetiver reminds me of water rather than earth.
I’m wearing Borneo 1843, joining in with others who are doing the patchouli/chocolate or cacao combination. I thought it would be too heavy for today (another humid warm one) but it’s actually fine. I wish I could compare it to Coromandel but I can’t find my decant. Might need to buy a bottle of that one! Compared to Stranger Parfumerie Cachouli, which I wore earlier this week, Borneo is much darker and less sweet. It’s definitely a dark chocolate in this one.
Things are looking up on the home repair front because my leaking air conditioner is finally fixed! Now I’ve got to deal with the insurance adjuster, the water damage people, and the rebuilding team to fix the parts of my house that got damaged. One thing at a time…. I keep telling myself that, at least.
Scent twins! It’s been a good choice for me; sounds like you are enjoying it, too!
So sorry about your AC woes. I was feeling bad about my $954 AC repair bill, but at least it wasn’t a leak with water damage -sounds horrible.
SOTD = Chanel Les Exclusifs Coromandel EDT
Whoop whoop! I see that I am scent twins with a few NSTers. Points for the CP.
In other news, I bought a package of lens cleaner from Costco and as you may have guessed, it was a 3-pack of 75 each. I opened one box this week intending to try one because I was going to stock up at work. I’m glad I did because instead of cleaning my eyeglasses, the entire lens was covered with what I can only describe as paper fuzzies. Seriously. I might as well just use a used towel (never) or the tail of my shirt (guilty!) to wipe them clean. Even though they are inexpensive overall, I am returning them. I really should be compensated extra for having to go back to return it.
I’m guilty of using my shirt too.
This is probably the worst of my eyeglasses indiscretion 🤣
How funny! I use some lens cleaning packets from Costco, and they work great. The brand I use is called “Flents”.
Wearing SJP Covet today, something about aromatics and chocolate goes together very well, I think because it cuts the sweetness. I like that the chocolate isn’t quite gourmand here.
You smell delightful – every time I wear it, I think, “I should wear this more.” I have very few musk perfumes in my top 20, but in addition to all the other good things about Covet, the musk note is very prominent and very much my kind of musk.
Hey twin!
I choose Baiser Fou from Cartier, signed by Mathilde Laurent. A youthful floral white chocolate. (Tho I only take 100% dark chocolate. I just cannot stand cocoa mixed with any sugar T_T)
Runner-up (I’d wear it later, depending on my moods then 😉 ):
1969 Parfum de Revolte (Gerald Ghislain), from Histoires de Parfums – peachy rose chocolate;
Theorema (Christine Nagel), from Fendi – orange spicy chocolate;
Pale Fire (Holladay Saltz), from Apoteker Tepe – (tho cacao listed, to me more like) cocoa butter.
Happy Friday!
I should have worn Theorema this week!
I have to work tonight and have been running errands beforehand. I’m wearing Prada Candy Night. It starts out pretty chocolaty but turns into regular Candy. I like it though, it’s very easy to wear.
Have a good Friday too.I don’t know that one, I bet you smell good.
It really is similar to the original Candy. The new version of Candy though is not very good imo. It smells thin now.
Oh, that’s a bummer to hear about the current version of Candy. I’d thought about getting a small bottle of the original for ages.
I hope work goes smoothly.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoXVYSV4Xcs
A song to get you through!
Aww… I love it!
I sing this sometimes and my daughter tells me to stop🤣
Original Prada Candy smell fabulous so I am quite sure you smell fabulous as well!
I do! I even sprayed hajusuuri style!
You do smell great! I have it on my list to get one day.
Keep an eye out for a good deal.
Fingers crossed for a good night at work for you!
Happy Friday!
SOTD!
Montale Chocolate Greedy! It was either this or PdE Equistrius.First time wearing Chocolate Greedy and I am thoroughly enjoying it’s nutty milk chocolate-vibes!
Had a wonderful morning spent with two close friends,we did some shopping and had a great lunch at one of my favorite “secret spots” in the city(“Alice in Waterkloof”,it’s one of those hidden gems you only know about through word of mouth in the city)
Pleasant winters’ day for a change!
Happy weekend!
🌹✌🏻🤗
Sounds like a really nice day. I’m jealous of your “lunch with friends,” something I miss terribly since I’ve been traveling. Glad Chocolate Greedy worked for you! 🙌
Thanks!
And here I am jealous of all your fabulous travels and experiences!
I need to get out and about way more!
XO’s
It has its pros and cons, like every other job. 🙃
Glad it was a nice day for you 😊
Thank you babes, hope Friday treats you well too!🌹🤗
Way, way off the CP.
Mandarine Basilic, from the swapmeet.
Applied as if I was a 14 year old boy with a can of Axe. 🍊 ❤️
😀
Oh boy, lookout for you!
🤣
Ha ha! Like me with my 23 spritzes. 😉
A single spray of Chanel Coromandel. It is surprisingly potent, especially in the opening.
At one point, I might have fallen in love with it and sought out a full bottle; now I find it a pretty scent but not something I would wear with any great frequency.
It’s funny.. my most loved perfumes seem to be my least worn, with a few exceptions.
I was just thinking the same thing! Not wearing a perfume often isn’t going to make me love it less.
Happy Friday! I chose Piment Brulant for the CP but wound up not being in the mood for it today, so I’m in Neroli Portofino and gratefully watching the fog burn off before noon.
Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement yesterday! Still not sleeping well, but I met with my academic advisor this morning and as usual, she made me feel much better and more atop-the-horse-rather-than-being-dragged-behind about it all.
That’s a great advisor to have – hopefully you will be able to get some R&R this weekend and start next week a smidge better!
So glad your advisor was able to make you feel better Isabella!
For today’s CP I’m wearing Les Parfums de Rosine Rose Praline…rose, cocoa, black tea, etc. I think it’s been discontinued, unfortunately!
It’s steamy day in NYC today. Stay cool and hydrated, everyone!
Steamy here too Jessica.
LPdR seems to be taking a break, don’t they? Nothing new for quite some time.
I’m wearing Kerosene Followed, notes of coffee, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and amber. This is powerful stuff, a tiny dab on each wrist and I am wafting a cloud all around me. Strangely, it is not very sweet.
This morning’s breakfast was two mini donuts with my coffee. On the package I noticed, in large letters, “No High Fructose Corn Syrup!” Really? You’re eating donuts and your health concern is high fructose corn syrup? Or maybe it’s the donut company’s way of looking out for your healthy diet.
Marketing strikes again.
Good to keep healthy!
A lovely Friday here in California. And two days off. One of my travel visas came through this morning, one more to go.
SOTD is Fenty, which has a note of blueberry. I bought this last summer and it’s about 60% gone.
The only chocolate to be had is in my protein shake.
Wow, 60% in a year! I don’t think I have ever drained anything that quickly.
The goldfield and banks Ingenious Ginger might go the same way!
That’s impressive.
Fresh strawberries and yogurt smoothie
Today, Nuxe Prodigieux le Parfum.
Tonight, it was a fight between Vanilla Diorama and Missoni Gianduia, the latter won because I wear VD and its orange, chocolate goodness to bed mostly. Gianduia is my HG chocolate, dark chocolate praline, so delicious that almost any other chocolate is a letdown.
Fresh strawberry twins, although I had mine with cottage cheese and some blueberries, cinnamon, a drizzle of honey and a dash of granola. The strawberries here this year have been really tasty! 🍓
Oh, wonderful, twins! What a feast for breakfast.
I need to spray my Vanilla Diorama, don’t remember the orange chocolate smell. That Missoni sounds wonderful!
Vanilla Diorama really is a favorite to go to sleep. The Missoni is so delicious, if we lived closer I would send some to you.
Maybe I should look for more strawberries this weekend at the farmers markets?
CP in Coco ( name not notes) . It’s been a cold week with a constant roaring wind funnelling down the valley that won’t be quiet for even a moment and outside just now to look for stars it chilled my bones. I have ear plugs in just to keep sane. Typically we get these winds around the spring equinox but seem to be stuck in a strange weather system at the moment. Oh well, weekend!
Nice use of Coco. No roaring winds here, but cold and grey just the same. Thought of you yesterday as my cat was getting up to hijinks. The outcome? Feverish and COVID-ie me splayed across my bedroom carpet groping around the corner of the bed to keep the wee evil beast away as I tried to scoop up a stunned (but still chirping) vireo out from under before the cat got to him. Bird survived. Kitty got a bollocking. And just about here in my story I am wondering if you wondering about the “thought of you” 🙂 ! It’s the animals!
Oakland Fresca, glad you were able to “woman-up” and make the save. Our kitties just have to cat. Kanuka, another good take on the CP!
Making me feel a little better for my inglorious bird rescue under the bed.
That’s a nice wee bird. We don’t have them here. Good on you for the rescue and I hope you feel better soon.
Ahh, it’s cooled off substantially this morning so my chocolate SOTD actually makes sense. I went with California Chocolate by Olympic Orchids, which is a citrus chocolate delight.
I had a fun thing happen when I was on my evening walk. I changed up my usual route and walked up to a nearby, popular park thinking I might be a little cooler there with all the trees. Not so much, but it was still a lovely day for a walk in the park. The fun, unexpected thing was a brother and sister selling homemade chocolate chip cookies at a table. The more outgoing child, the probably 8 or 9 year old boy, came up and asked me if I wanted to buy any cookies. I said I didn’t have cash on me, but he said, “you can also use Zelle or Venmo.” 😂 So, of course I bought two cookies from the quiet 10 or 11 year old girl at the table. I put them in the fridge last night so we’ll eat them tonight.
Thanks for today’s chuckle 🤭 !
What an adorable story!
Love this!
Rummaging through samples this AM, I decided to try Diptyque’s L’Eau Papier again. The fact of the matter is I want to wear a perfume called “Papier.” I just do. But like the M + L’s Petits Papiers, this sadly is not the one– on me this is a musk bomb sports cologne with a great back story.
Participating emotionally in the CP: Going down olfactory memory lane to a 1996ish visit to Paris with my then-boyfriend (now hubby) where we bought a bottle of Secrete Datura (MPG)–the frosted glass bottle with the figure of a woman draped across the side. I have reminisced about this before on NST–maybe with ChocolateMarzipan? A millisecond search shows a bottle now going for $499.99 on eBay! Yee gads!
Have you ever tried Demeter Paperback. I remember it as a dusty, peppery , paper scent, no musk.
I don’t think so.
I’m not too particular about what my Papier perfume should smell like, only that it be lovely and that it be called something with Papier or Papiers–Perhaps we can interest a house in creating Avion en Papier, with notes of cola, coffee, and aldehydes? Or Papiers à cigarettes, with notes of clove, cigarettes, and roses?
In Borneo 1834, four good sprays. Perfect. Thanks to Deva and hajusuuri for the inspiration — and this makes me scent twins with Calypso!
Question: when I first encountered SL fragrances in person, the lovely SA (at Barney’s Copley Place) recommended applying by sliding the the atomizer tube over one’s skin, rather than spraying. I’ve since discovered that I often prefer to spray, because the fragrance is less likely to overwhelm me as it develops. Comments on any of this?
Muggy muggy muggy here today, but improvement in everyone’s tummies. We are slowly starting to eat things other than chicken broth and and plain boiled rice. Thanks for the good wishes, everyone.
That is so interesting, hope others will comment if they’ve ever been given that advice from SL or any other brand? I’ve never heard it, ever.
Robin, you smell wonderful. Did you see that I wore it this week and got a treasured “compliment in the wild?” Covet is so much fun to wear. For the CP win: sotd is Angel circa 2014 from the Glamorama Star. Yes, there’s chocolate. And much more! Hope everyone is going to enjoy a good weekend to close out a short week!
We are scent siblings today!
I found it rather amusing that we both had Mugler FOMO in the Damage Poll this time around.
I did see, so nice! It really is fun to wear.
I ❤️ chocolate/cocoa as a fragrance note, especially all of the Dame Perfumery scents (Chocolate Man being my favorite) and, like Pyramus, am very fond of YR’s long d/c Neonatura Cocoon. But in July in the Midwest on a mid-summer’s day? Nope. So today’s cp was a real challenge for me until I remembered that SJP’s Covet has a dark chocolate note, so that’s my choice for SOTD (and I chose it before I saw Robin’s post, we’re twins!). The reason I remembered that is because Covet (my only SJP scent) is a rare multi-season fragrance for me – I like to layer it either over a lemon, lavender, or chocolate body lotion depending on my mood and the season to highlight its different notes. And, like a chameleon, it becomes 3 different scents. Today I’m just wearing it straight sans lotion and I’m getting mostly a spicy green, very pleasant fragrance.
After what seems like forever it’s finally a beautiful sunny warm-but-not humid day, a day to finally open the windows. Hopefully the rain that’s predicted for late tonight will in fact hold off til then as we decide which of 3 outdoor concerts to attend tonight: Will it be a classic rock band playing all the old hits? A swing band playing the even older hits? Or an Elton John tribute whom we’ve seen before and who is excellent? Not sure but I’m looking forward to being outside after being inside for way too long. Hope you can all get outside for a bit this weekend regardless of what season you’re in – it does wonders. Enjoy! ☀️🌻🍉🕶️⛱️🎵🎸🍷
It really is the perfect summer choice. I can’t believe I didn’t think of Theorema until I saw it mentioned today, but it’s rare I think of Theorema when it is as hot and muggy as it is right now.
Hope you saw a wonderful outdoor concert whatever the final choice !
Yesterday was off to a bad start, when we woke up to no power. That hasn’t happened for years. I went back to bed until it was light enough to get dressed without having to use a torch. The power came back on again just as I was leaving for work, but I was running late and didn’t have time to find the Iris Ganache I’d planned to wear.
Instead, I wore my travel spray of PdN’s Caravansérail Intense, which doesn’t have chocolate or cacao but smells like it should.
That means it’s Iris Ganache for later today. This morning I’ve got a booking for a facial, something I haven’t done for years, and I’m looking forward to some pampering 🙂
Hope the facial was lovely, Gaynor!
(And if you had to lose power, glad it was so brief)
Mayan Chocolate from Aether Arts–it’s green and spicy. Seems pretty good for a rainy day. Denver has apparently gotten more precipitation than Seattle this year
Goutal Le Chevrefeuille this afternoon, after a morning wearing JLo Still. So pretty, and always takes me back to this honeysuckle bush I was obsessed with at my babysitter’s house when i was about 5 or 6. Very fun memory trip.
JLo Still is iced sweet tea in a bottle. I only wear it in the warmer months, and it always feels perky to me.
Happy Friday All!
Ok, all of a sudden I’m contemplating an unsniffed bottle of Still. Maybe if it’s still available on FragranceNet next time I make a purchase, I’ll add it to my order.
Chocolate-adjacent today. With the hot temps and the humidity, a chocolate perfume just wasn’t in the cards for me.
Good news! I have a kitchen sink back! The plumbers were lovely. They even dealt with the minor issue in the powder room that was completely unrelated to the service call. Finally able to run the dishwasher since Sunday.
And one of them had quite the conversation with a very chatty Spooky kitty.
SOTD = Angel Aqua Chic EdT, plus Bliss Lemon & Sage Body Butter. Lemon and dark chocolate is an underrated combination in my book. 🍋🍫
Chatty Spooky!😹😻
The plumber was putting some very funny things into Spooky’s mouth. And she was more than happy to keep meowing away.
You smell great, I like Aqua Chic. Funny about Spooky kitty’s conversation, sounds like a nice plumber.
Thank you!
The plumbers were here during one of the regular feeding times for the cats. Wasn’t about to feed them in the middle of the chaos. I joked that Spooky was complaining about rotten service. Now imagine a “Philly guy” running with that premise…
Scent twins with Robin! Also in Covet, the main thing I own with a dark chocolate note (I think VCA Orchidee Vanille has white chocolate and I have a tiny decant of Iris Ganache with white chocolate). Quite enjoyed it and a small enough spritz to be office-friendly. Must wear more often!
Forgot–I do have Jo Malone Blue Agave and Cacao.
A (very!) belated hey twin!
