Hermes Cabriole ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 6 September 2022 9 Comments

Hermès will launch Cabriole, a new fragrance for children, in October.

Cabriole was developed by Hermès house perfumer Christine Nagel, who notes...

I sought to create a comforting and highly distinctive scented water that signifies the bond between parent and child. I wanted to make a digression, a joyful leap towards a new proposal, deliberately moving away from orange blossom, I used osmanthus and honeysuckle to express in a different way the great fondness I feel for childhood, a time of fearless experimentation and insatiable curiosity. This eau de senteur is an invitation to prolong this state of mind, made of play and freedom, for as long as possible.

Additional notes include sandalwood.

Hermès Cabriole will be available in 50 ml Eau de Senteur (alcohol-free scented water), and possibly other sizes as well.

A bunch of people over on the Reddit sub r/fragrance are losing their *minds* over this. “Fragrances are for adults, not children! We’re making them grow up too fast! It’s just another sign of consumer culture gone amuck!” And so on and so on.

I think it sounds nice. I’d totally give it a sniff if there were a bottle in the vicinity.

Lol it’s nothing new to have scents for kids. I liked wearin scents since I can remember..and cannot say I am fully grown up yet LOL. As a pre-teen, I always asked for Baby Soft. Cheap, lovely and I didn’t think it made me feel like I was being made to grow up..rather, I thought at the time, it was age appropriate for me lol. Just felt clean and fresh. Fragrances for pets, however, not really a fan. Especially cats..their resp. systems are really sensitive.

I saw that! I was OBSESSED with fragrance as a kid and always begged for a spritz of my mom’s Chanel or Opium if she was putting some on. (I was allowed a sniff but no actual fragrance as it was only for special occasions, plus can you imagine a 10-year-old in Opium?!?) I had my own little bottles of Tinkerbell and Bonne Bell peach body spray. This is nothing new.

Haha maybe not 10 for Opium lol. I was wearin Poison at 13/14. At 10, I was into the Baby Soft..more like 11…I would say 11 was the time I was becoming aware of what I liked and didn’t like in scent. I knew at that age I hated gardenia..and that has never changed lol.

That debate usually comes up here whenever there’s a new children’s fragrance.

I love the original Elizabeth Arden Cabriole but this one sounds lovely, fragrances for children seem always to come and go, the ethical aspects do worry me somewhat.

I totally understand the appeal, I was all about scented Everything! when I was a kid (I guess that carried on, too…)
Scented erasers, stickers, felt pens, lip gloss sand of course perfume were all amazing to me. Another Love’s Baby Soft fan here. But on the other hand, the thought of my Mom popping down to Hermes to pick me up a bottle is hysterically funny. I would have loved it, though!
