It's Hump Day and National Popcorn Day. Birthdays: Edgar Allan Poe, Paul Cézanne, Patricia Highsmith, Julian Barnes, Janis Joplin, Edwidge Danticat, Dolly Parton. RIP André Leon Talley. What fragrance are you wearing?
Last night while rummaging for Dior fragrances, I came across my sample of Poison Girl and thought that might be a fun choice for today, but in the light of morning, I just couldn't do it. I wish I still had some Hypnotic Poison or Midnight Poison, or even better, some Dior Dior or Diorama. I know I have some Fahrenheit somewhere and hopefully it will turn up by tomorrow. For now, I'm in vintage Miss Dior.
Reminder: on 1/21, for Christian Dior's birthday, wear a Dior fragrance (this is a repeat from 2014).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is from the Dior Men Spring/Summer 2021 Campaign.
I can see why you’d balk at Poison Girl. Vintage Miss Dior is a great choice.
I have only a few drops of vintage Fahrenheit left, and I’m wearing a couple of them — so gorgeous, intoxicatingly complex, with a top that reminds me of celery and gasoline. I’ll miss this when it’s gone, but all good things must come to an end.
I guess I’m not the only one, since it never got any flankers of its own!
Fahrenheit is such a great scent. Going to look again tonight. Possible I have some Jules too, but the drawer is so disorganized…
I’m in New Look 1947, from a mini. A pretty enough floral.
Nice (enough)?
It might be better sprayed. It is OK, but not super interesting.
Gotcha.
No Dior today. Coco Noir is my SOTD.
However, speaking of Dior I do have a question. I loved the original Miss Dior Cheri and have heard that Montale Rose Elixir is similar. Have any of you tried it and if so, did you like it?
I can’t answer y question but I love Coco Noir; you smell great today.
I do like Roses Elixir, but never made a connection with Miss Dior Cherie.
Temperature here is falling all day into the teens with a blustery north wind so I just can’t wear Diorissimo. My ancient decant of Dior Star has dried up and I can’t remember what it smelled like, so I’m wearing Imperial Opoponax to ward off the cold.
I will wear a drop of Diorissimo on Friday no matter the weather 🙂
That’s what I’m planning, too. I don’t think I have anything else Dior anyway. Can’t find my old sample of vintage Miss Dior. I will need to rectify that!
Hello all!
Update on my rescue dog: I adopted him! Haven’t fully decided on a name but Jicky is the leading contender. 🙂
I’m wearing Jasmin et Cigarette today, though I did wear Miss Dior parfum to bed a few nights ago.
Have a great day and stay safe.
Your new dog is lucky to have you! And Jicky sounds like an excellent name ?
And I feel lucky with him!
I can’t take credit for Jicky: Denyse from Grain de Musc has a cat named Jicky. But I can’t think of any perfume names that work for a boy.
How about Jules?
(hat tip to Robin for mentioning it.)
Jules would be so cute and easier to pronounce!
What happy news! I love Jicky, but I could also envision Drakkar and Ford as good names for a male dog.
How funny would Drakkar be!
How wonderful, congratulations on your new dog <3
Thank you!
Oh yay, and Jicky is a great name!
It definitely is
Congrats! You made me smile with “Jicky” – such a perfect name.
It’s stood the test of time for sure.
That’s great – and I ♥ Jicky!
Very happy household!
Congratulations!
You must go with Jicky!
I think he likes it too.
Love everything about this post!
Thank you!
Congratulations on your new family member!
Thank you!
Congratulations, and thank you for rescuing him! You will have wonderful times together! ?
He’s such a sweet boy, it was easy to rescue him. Poor boy has heartworms though so we’re taking it slow
Oh dear. I know the treatment of that can be long and presumably expensive. Good luck to him, but he’s already proven lucky so that’s good!
Luckily I think the shelter provides the treatment, or at least the first round or so.
Jicky! Congrats. I really wanted to name our dog “Jet” but got vetoed.
That’s a cool name though!
Congratulations, Coumarin! ? That’s wonderful news. The name Jicky is just brilliant. May you bond immediately and live happily ever after!
We’re pretty inseparable so far. Sadly he doesn’t like when I have to work but I think we’ll get through that soon.
Congratulations!! That’s wonderful! Jicky is a great name for a dog.
It’s been very rewarding so far
All dogs are great, but poodles are especially great!
Congrats on adopting your new friend.
Thank you!
Congratulations on your new friend! That is so wonderful!
Thank you!
Jicky is a great name for a dog! Congratulations!
I think it’s very cute, especial for a little white poodle.
Congratulations on your new furry family member!
Thank you!
So happy for your new pup – names are so hard, but as you get to know him, you will pick the right one!
I totally agree. Thank you!
Chypre Siam for a bit tropical feeling in my chypre week. A nice pick me up with this grey and cold weather.
Good thinking!
Thanks for the reminder; you smell wonderful and I need to dig out my sample.
I’m in the last few drops of J’adore l’or, the cozy j’adore. Sample thunked.
Feeling “off” today, so I’m desperately hoping it’s fatigue and not Covid, mostly because…who will manage my master spreadsheet of student make-up work (yes, it’s come to this!) if I am absent for five days?
Tonight’s culinary plan for our Thai theme week is sriracha salmon on edamame mash. Last night was butternut squash-sun butter-red curry bake with rice. All great so far!
Oh no, fingers crossed for not-Covid!
Hope you feel better and your culinary plan sounds amazing.
Hope you feel better asap!
More fingers crossed for you irisjasmine!
Feel better soon, Irisjasmine!
Your dinners sound delicious! Fingers crossed that it’s not covid and that you feel better soon.
Adding to the “Please, not COVID!” chorus!
Happy birthday to Julian Barnes — I loved The Sense of An Ending. Commando so far, but I have Cuir Cannage in mind for post-shower. Yesterday I ended up in Escale a Portofino and enjoyed that very much.
I really like Julian Barnes, too. I’ll have to put that on my list!
I’m in Eau de Narcisse Bleu, a fragrance that (hangs head in embarrassment) I’d forgotten I owned. In my defense, it’s fairly dark in my perfume closet. In my non-defense, though, it’s also fairly crowded.
Gloriously sunny, if chilly, today after some low pearly mists pulled back. I saw a fog bow while driving home from the grocery store, which always feels very special.
Ok, how can it be that I have never seen a fog bow? I had to google it!
In the course of seeking out Dior fragrances for the CP this week, I was a bit surprised to realize just how many I have! Granted, many of them are in mini sizes or decants, but still … I think I may have more from Dior than any other house. Today I’m wearing Dioramour, and loving it. It’s a fruity iris, to my nose, if that makes sense.
Many years ago, I had the original Poison, passed on to me by my mother who had bought it on a bit of a whim when it was launched. She then realized that it truly wasn’t her at all and gave it to me. I don’t think it was really “me” either — much more sultry than I’ve ever been, lol! I did enjoy it, sparingly applied. And of course, now I have no idea where that original bottle ended up.
OH, I loved the original Poison, and still have a bit stashed. Planning to wear it on Friday…What an iconic scent.
I hope you find your bottle! It’s just such a powerhouse and I still love it from time to time.
I also hope you find it: Poison for me just proves that too much is just enough!
Wish I would have bought a bottle of the original Poison when it came out!
I forgot about the CP this morning and got so excited about the husband being out of the house (to go to work) that I rummaged through my bag of incense fragrances sent to me by a very kind NSTer and put on two rather large sprays of Heeley Eau Sacree. A bit eye-watering at this concentration but still beautiful. I’m sure it’ll settle down soon, and in the meantime, I’m enjoying this suggestion that I did not get COVID from my weekend in the city.
Having a terribly hard time focusing on work in light of the excitement I look forward to in the next couple months 🙂
You smell wonderful.
Heeley makes some lovely but very BIG heavy hitters!
That’s so nice to be so excited!! Good for you.
I took out my bottle of Hypnotic Poison before taking a shower very early this morning. However, post shower, I decided to wear instead a copious amount of Tauer Rose Delight Body Oil, which I have been craving for a lot lately. It has become a skin scent by now, but I am enjoying it greatly!
Happy Wednesday! ?
It’s funny that even if we plan a sotd, another perfume will shout our name.
Happy Wednesday!
Thank you, Lillyjo!
That change of mind happens to me very often!
The best laid plans of perfumistas are often upset by our own bottles!
So true! They have too much power on us! ?
Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia
You smell great Barqs. I love this one too.
Wearing CdG Jaisalmer today for a bit of incense while sipping scorching coffee. ☕️
Woke to a world wearing a thick muffler! The fog was so dense this morning if felt like doggo, Moby, and I lived on a separate plane, all alone and cushioned from the existence of the restless world. But the sun is out (I can see that fuzzy source of warmth and light as a dim glowing sphere) and I’m sure will burn the fog off.
I have many chores to do today and I don’t feel like doing even one of them. ?
Joining you in fog—serpents of it are twisting their way up our cul de sac and then going higher, up over trees and houses, muffling sound and dimming the light. Even our intrepid cat paused a moment on the door threshold before thrusting his nose in the air and heading into the mist!
I love Jaisalmer — you smell wonderful.
Join you in not feeling like chores today! But I did actually take my tree down. January 19, that might be a record for us, ha.
Woo-hoo!
After yesterday’s experimenting with Dior Addict, I decided to go with something that suits me better today, something I thoroughly enjoy, so I’m in Mon Vetiver by Essential Parfums.
Tea of the day is Earl Grey.
Happy Hump Day!
I do not know that one, but I do love vetiver so I am sure you smell great!
I am terribly late so now on my pre-bed cup of ginger tea.
Sotd is Dolce Vita from a vintage mini. I like this a lot and didn’t realize it was a Pierre Bourdon fragrance.
Very sad to hear about André Talley. He was such a force of nature.
Does anyone have any experience with recent versions of Dolce Vita?
He was indeed. Excelled at caftans.
🙂
Ahhh… you snel febtastic!
Thank you!
Is snelling febtastic a thing now? I feel like I’ve now seen this multiple times on NST. The first time, I thought they were typos, but surely different people wouldn’t have the same typos on different days. What have I missed?
Petunia coined it the other day due to a typo and it was voted in. Lol
Aha! Thank you for the explanation 🙂
Joining you in sadness about Andre Leon Talley.
I only barely knew who he was before Kevin made me watch documentaries about Vogue and then about ALT (forget the names, sorry). He was indeed fascinating!
Also really sad about Andre Leon Talley. I loved his columns in Vogue.
Chanel 31 Rue Cambon, in a generous sample from an equally generous NST perfumista. I didn’t like this one originally but it has grown on me greatly – very classy. (To go with my yoga pants and hoodie ;D)
You smell and look very classy!
Love this one! I try not to wear it too often so my bottle will last for a long time.
SOTD is Tauer Sundowner for a cool overcast day.
You smell wonderful – Sundowner is good anytime, IMHO…
I am sort of embarrassed to admit that I have never tried any of Dior’s newish “mainstream” fragrances. No Poison, Addict, or J’adore for me, I don’t know why. Today on a gray and drizzly day I am wearing Lost Cherry and planning on getting a haircut.
Lost cherry! You smell great.
I’ve never tried those, either — I have half a dozen Diors in my collection but don’t really feel that I “know” the line at all, since mine are pretty much all vintage or Collection Couturier/Privée ones.
Yay for a haircut! Enjoy!
That is not even slightly embarrassing! Who cares!
This may turn into an amber week for me. Today, I’m in MPG’s Ambre Precieux.
We’ve got the weather for your amber week!
Totally weather inspired!
RIP André Leon Talley. I saw a documentary about him a few years ago that was quite good.
Finally remembered to pull out the Dior today, wearing Mitzah.
Ah, you smell splendid! I will be very sad when my irreplaceable decant runs out.
Ping me when you need more. 🙂
Aww, thanks 🙂 that is very kind of you!
I’d like to check out that documentary. Was it The Gospel According to André Leon Talley?
I think it was.
Yes, that’s the one Kevin made me watch. It was on the Kanopy streaming service, which sadly my library dropped…they had so many wonderful documentaries.
For my first day of vacation I am doing absolutely nothing. So far I have taken a nap and loaded the dishwasher. I dabbed a little bit of Miss Dior edt on from a mini. I believe it’s about ten years old, but I think it’s an older formulation. It reminds me of my rich Aunt’s bathroom in the 70’s. Oh how I loved to go through and smell the fancy soaps and perfumes and creams when we would visit. ( also the fanciest guest towels ever!)
Have a relaxing vacation time, Lillyjo!
Thank you! Tomorrow I will be getting a few things accomplished.
Yay, enjoy your vacation!
Thank you!
Song for you! https://youtu.be/2RHTiXvELNg
Ha! Caught me off guard with that one.
What a time capsule, thank you!
You smell great! And enjoy your vacation!
Thank you! I will!
Enjoy your vacation! Doing nothing for at least one day should be a part of every vacation.
I did so much nothing today that I am exhausted! Lol!
SOTD = Dior Homme EDT
Circa 2014! Like a bunch have said, I actually seem to have more Diors than I originally though. It is a good problem to have ?.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CY68qOpucrp/?utm_medium=copy_link
I was going to rant and then thought – eh – better to keep it to myself as I will have to make veiled references to a number of things and I would rather spend the energy on something else … like maybe make popcorn from scratch. I have the tools and the kernels. Let’s see if I follow through. If not, I have a Costco size popcorn bag that will fit the bill just as well!
You smell great! I think I missed the best version of Dior Homme, the one that smells more iris-y and less classic masculine ozonic.
And that watch is ridiculously cute:)
Thank you. Sometimes you get lucky with fragrancenet. I got my bottle a few years back and I was sent new old stock.
Popcorn from scratch! Taking me back again to the 70’s. I hope it turns out.
It did! I will post a picture tomorrow!
Popcorn from scratch is the BEST! And can help with any number of rants and frustrations. I like it popped in a mix of olive oil and butter, with salt, brewer’s yeast, and garlic powder sprinkled on immediately after. The tween prefers it drizzled with chocolate syrup. Takes all kinds. 🙂
I am pretty sure I have brewer’s yeast somewhere unless it got chucked in a clean up!
We make ours with a Whirley-Pop pan, and it’s the best! So easy (and cheap)!
Mine is actually a teapot-like container which I got for $5 at Boscov’s.
Correction – it’s more carafe-like than a teapot.
Cool!
We grow our own popcorn and it’s so fun — it’s a rainbow variety called Glass Gem and every ear is different, so as you shuck them you never know if it’s going to be yellow and purple, or deep burgundy, or lilac and green and blue, or four shades of pink, or every color mixed together. Plus, it makes amazing popcorn, with a fresh, sweet, true-corn flavor that I assume is lacking from commercial popcorn because the latter sits around longer. We like to grate a little parmesan over it after popping, for extra yum.
Wow, that sounds amazing!
That sounds fun and delicious!
OH that sounds so good! We used to go buy this red popcorn from an Amishman down in Indiana and it was like that–so fresh and tasty, and fun to see the little red kernels when it was popped. My dad would also cook it from scratch in a big pan on the stove.
This sounds so good. I have parmesan except they are shredded flakes. May be good though so will try with the next bowl.
Do you have to do anything special with your home grown popcorn to keep it edible after a while? Or does it not last long enough to worry about that?
Love the Snoopy watch!
Me too! So cute.
Thank you. I couldn’t resist!
My neighbor got a home-size version of a movie theater popcorn maker and we had some last weekend. I hadn’t had freshly popped (non microwave) popcorn in years and it was so good!
I will post my device tomorrow. It looks like a repurposed glass carafe.
Love Swatch watches – that one is super cute.
I always make popcorn from scratch, so easy really. Sometimes in a brown paper bag in the microwave and sometimes on the stovetop. Yum, big fan!
This watch was particularly cute and I love the shade of blue. I ended up making air popped popcorn in the microwave.
I love making popcorn from scratch — I use flavored olive oil. Garlic olive oil is excellent! Also truffle.
I added truffle olive oil to mine!
That Snoopy watch is so freaking cool! I had a different one as I kid that I wore until the strap broke.
And now I am Jonesing for some popcorn!
Yumm is right!
Mine was a Mickey Mouse watch!
Ack, proof reading fail! Should be “as a kid…”
Everyone’s comments here resulted in: 4:36pm EST turned stove on; 4:43 EST ate first of two bowls of large, fluffy popcorn kernels. If that is not instant gratification, it is sure close! Just salted, but if I’d had some brewer’s yeast, I would have added it.
Great. I had 2 smallish bowls ?
Sad news today. We had to put down Jake yesterday. The x-rays showed that he had some kind of blood cancer. The vet said that he might have lived another week or month but it wouldn’t be pretty. Didn’t wear perfume yesterday but in Shalimar today. It was the first perfume that I wore when we got him.
Oh Dawn, I’m so sorry for your loss. Sending hugs.
Ah, so sorry. I took a pup in for routine check and they found something, did exploratory surgery, found extensive cancer, and we let him not wake up from the anesthetic. My S.O. at the time was wrecked by the sudden, unexpected loss of that good dog. Take good care of yourself.
I’m sorry about losing your dog, Dawn! Hugs!
I’m so sorry Dawn.
I’m so sorry for your loss, Dawn. Losing loved ones is so hard.
I’m so sorry.
I’m so sorry.
Oh, Dawn, I’m so sorry that you had to send Jake to the ? bridge. Shalimar is a lovwrly trying tro remember him by. ❤️
I’m so sorry, Dawn. Piling on additional hugs!
I’m so sorry for the loss of Jake.
I am so deeply sorry, Dawn. Sending comforting hugs.
I’m so sorry Dawn. May Jake live on in sweet memories.
I am so sorry Dawn. Sending hugs to you and everyone else who loved Jake.
I am so sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry, Dawn. Sending virtual hugs.
Oh Dawn, you have my deepest sympathy, our fur friends just don’t live long enough under any circumstances. Hugs!
I’m so sorry for your loss Dawn. Losing a beloved pet is hard.
I’m so sorry.
My sympathies, Dawn, for having to say a permanent goodbye to Jake. That hurts. ?
Oh Dawn, I’m so very sorry about Jake. He was well-loved and lucky to have you as mama.
Oh, no, I am so sorry. That’s just a sad loss of your friend.
So sorry for your loss, Dawn. Jake was loved.
I am sorry Dawn; it is so sad to say goodbye to our beloved pets.
Dawn, another virtual hug. You must be hurting so much right now. I’m really sorry.
Oh no, I am so sorry Dawn. RIP Jake.
So sorry about your dog, Dawn. I hope the Shalimar is comforting.
So very sorry for your loss, Dawn. Sending great big hugs as you remember Jake and the wonderful life you gave him.
It’s a dull and cool day here. I’d got used to it being warm, so I’m having to rethink my dress for the day. Perfume-wise, I”m going to celebrate Monsieur Dior’s birthday a day earlier, I’m in the mood for Miss Dior, the original that I bought about 10 years ago. It’s probably nearly vintage by now 🙂
I likewise now have vintage perfumes that I bought new!
I’m in Dior Cologne Blanche from their original lineup of Collection Privée in 2004, and it’s… nice enough. I ended up with a couple small decants through swaps years back, and I remember liking it more years ago. It’s slightly herbaceous citrus, almond, and musk. It’s pleasant and nice but not terribly exciting. But it is easy to wear and light enough I cam reapply through the day, so it works out just fine for today.
Has anyone watched or is currently watching Yellowjackets? The season finale was this past weekend, but we still have 4 episodes to watch so no spoilers please. I wish I had another day off so I could binge the rest. I’m really into it!
I am so out of it that I had not heard of it! Now I know.
Good afternoon.
Joining Robin in Miss Dior Original.
Busy day! Dear weekend where are you?
Had a salad and grilled cheese sandwich, extra oozing, stringy, melty cheese. Nom.
Mmm, grilled cheese!
Oooooooooh, that grilled cheese sammich sure sounds good!
Nom+!
Sometimes, a grilled cheese sammich is just the ticket.
Hey twin!
Wearing my flowery Oud, which is more flowery the colder it gets, a nice surprise. I have a little sample of J’adore for tomorrow, and Diorissimo for Friday. Seems like I used to have other Dior’s, but the only one I can think of is old Dune, which I haven’t gotten around to trying to replace.
I thought I had some Dune too…no can find.
I think I have exactly one Dior in my collection so saving that for Friday.
In L’heure fougueuse today that I think was from a swap meet a while back? Whoever swapped it with me, thank you! It is fantastic!
I also got myself the new perfume book “the perfume companion” for christmas (I think these kinds of books are perfect bed-time reading) and now I’m curious about 4160 Tuesdays and will probably place a sample order soon. I usually rarely like indie lines, though, with a couple of exceptions here and there (Ummagumma, Slowdive). Anything I should really try? I was planning to sample rhubarb & custard, both sides of clouds for sure, plus maybe one more to start.
Happy Wednesday!
You smell so great!
thanks!
I love Both Sides of Clouds. I can also recommend Take Me To the River, Captured by Candlelight, and Red Queen.
thanks! Take me to the river is on my list as well, thanks for the additional suggestions.
I agree with all of these! Any of the Clouds series is excellent. If you like ambery, warm fragrances, you might like Eau My Soul, which was crowdsourced with the Facebook group of that name. I also love Scenthusiasm, White Queen, and An Excess of Carelessness. You can also order a discovery set of 7 out of the 8 4160 Tuesdays fragrances described in the book: https://www.4160tuesdays.com/4160tuesdaysscentshop/prod_7671543-The-Perfume-Companion-Taster-Set.html. Have fun!
Forgot to add Meet Me On The Corner, another top fave for me.
Your post isn’t about this, but I love Ummagumma, too. Such a good one.
In Bois d’Argent,. It ill be easier to finish off this decant after it was point out here that it resembles VCA Vanille Orchidee of which I have a full bottle.
Oh, interesting. I think it resembles VCA Bois d’Iris very strongly. I don’t know Vanille Orchidee – maybe that one also?
I have both, and bought Vanille Orchidee unsniffed, which while I liked it, for me the resemblance was strong enough to the former that I felt I didn’t really both. Am definitely wearing both, no, all three…
Rotating between L’Eau by Diptyque and Celtic Fire by Union for the past few days, as they are the only things warming me up in the cold.
I love my sample of Diptyque L’Eau, but I’ve never worn it in cold weather. Must try it these days 😉
Can’t find any of my Diors, so I chose IA The Canary and the Cobra. This is usually one of my favorite leathers, but I think I’m going to find something warmer for tonight. It’s getting very cold here!
Sorry about the cold AnnE! I think we are joining you (weather-wise) tomorrow.
Thanks, Robin. Actually, it feels a lot colder than it is right now. The *real* cold will be here soon. Ugh.
Oeillet Bengale. Wanted spicy carnation (that is apparently rose…)
Brrrr. Had a morning group thing then ran some errands. My nose just about fell off while I was filling my gas tank. The wind…. It’ll be worse tomorrow, and we drive down to have the new tires put on. I think I’ll be bringing out the big guns – my heavy duty parka.
And, I have to steel myself for a battle with my former health insurance company. It looks like they originally covered then decided not to cover some stuff from 2020. So we got a big bill from Weill Cornell in NYC. Very bizarre.
Yuck. Sorry to hear that you have to deal with insurance company shenanigans.
Oh boy. Is there a statute of limitations?
In two gardenias today for my birthday, both new to me. First is Chanel Gardenia, which to my nose is a lovely abstract interpretation of a gardenia. Second is Guerlain Cruel Gardenia, which to my nose is more of a tuberose than a gardenia. Maybe because I get no sweetness at all from it. I don’t need a ton of sweetness, but I do need a teensy in my gardenias.
Tea is Margaret’s Hope Darjeeling.
Happy birthday, Vee! Wishing you a year of joy and armloads of gardenias!
Thank you Isabella!
Happy birthday, Vee!
Thanks Koyel!
Have a wonderful birthday day, Vee!
Thank you springpansy!
Happy birthday, Vee! ??
?
Happy birthday!
Thank you!
Happy birthday!
Thanks!
Happy Scented Birthday, Vee! Glad to hear from another “Januarian” here.
Thank you Jalapeno! I always think of myself as a Cap ?. I like “Januarian”
I’m a Water Bearer, but “Januarian” fits us both. ?
As my mom likes to point out, both of her kids were born on the cusp, so while I am definitely a stubborn goat, I am probably also bearing some water in a pack on my back. 🙂
Happy almost birthday Jalapeno!
Happy Birthday, Vee!
Thank you Gail!
Happy Happy Birthday!
Many thanks!
Happy birthday!!!
Thank you!!!
Happy Birthday, Vee!
Hey, did you ever see my reply to you about my tea blend?
Thank you AnnE! And thanks for the reminder on your post about tea — I saw it but got distracted and forgot to respond. I’ll email you tomorrow and perhaps we can do a tea swap.
Wonderful!
Happy Birthday Vee!
Thanks lillyjo!
Oh yay, hope it was a fun birthday!
Thanks! Any birthday that involves my mom making a black magic cake is a fun one ?
Chiming in SO late to wish you a happy birthday. Here’s to a terrific year ahead!
Thank you tulipani!
Hope you had a great birthday! It was my best friend’s birthday yesterday too. ?
And Dolly Parton’s birthday. Thanks for the birthday wishes. I hope your BF had a great birthday too!
Finally finished my library book The Antidote: Happiness for People Who Can’t Stand Positive Thinking. It’s by Oliver Burkeman, who used to write a regular column for The Guardian. Not for the perennially optimistic, as the title suggests. I enjoyed it — not a huge amount of new information to those who have studied stoicism or Buddhism, but nonetheless an easy, enjoyable read for anybody who’s a bit disenchanted with ceaseless positivity.
I’m wearing Douce Amere, which I adore, but wear only periodically, because my supply is sadly limited. In the meantime, I smell marvelous!
I think I acquired Theorema for the first time a number of years ago as sort of a “dupe” for Douce Amere. Or maybe it was the other way around? I forget. Have we done a “Best Dupe For ___” community project?
Great idea for a CP.
Oh, that book sounds interesting! Nursing is filled with “toxic positivity.” ?
I’ve never sampled Douce Amere but I’m quite sure you smell lovely!
Deva, we educators often belong to the cult of optimism, and we also tend to hold other beliefs that aren’t grounded in reality. “There’s no wrong answer, everybody is special, learning styles, nothing is impossible,” are all well-intentioned notions that haven’t actually improved the quality of education in this country, IMHO. 🙂
I had to look up toxic positivity. I don’t like it, lol.
Another thing I don’t like is artwork and coffee mugs telling me to be grateful or that I am a some sort of superwoman queen.
I knew NSTers were my people! ?
Those are the worst.
That book sounds very interesting. I frequently catch myself ending emails with, not so much toxic positivity, but positive platitudes. I think it is part being a people pleaser and part trying to offer emotional support (my job is such that if you are communicating with me, it is probably bc something NOT GOOD happened and you need my help with damage control). I’m trying to break the habit and a book like this might help.
Vee, I do the same. It’s hard to get through the day without a good platitude or seven. 🙂
?
I have to check…I think we did something in that ballpark.
I am wearing Irises by TRNP today. One if my Iris favs.
I keep seeing TRNP and I really have no idea what is stands for! So, I’m willing to face public ridicule and ask “What does TRNP stand for?”
I had to look it up too – Teone Reinthal Natural Perfume
She’s an Australian based perfumer.
Rushing by – it has been such a long a busy day, and the news about ALT was sad. His recent memoir The Chiffon Trenches is one of my favourite reads of recent years – and wearing a lot more of Miss Dior than I usually do (a tiny spritz on one wrist is generally enough for me). My bottle came from a chemist’s very dusty and neglected shelf a number of years ago, so while it is not vintage, it’s early 21st century, which isn’t too bad…good wishes to you all today!
There were still some surprising goodies to be found on store shelves right around 2000 or so!
Waiting for the yucky weather to show up sometime tonight after a rather nice day, weather-wise. ☔⛄
The rumblings about Mr. Jalapeno’s RTO are getting stronger. It sounds like he might be going to the office 1x a week. Details other than that are scarce, if they exist at all. ?♀️ He is less than thrilled about this…
SOTD = back in Wrappings.
I hope the nasty weather misses you somehow.
Wrappings is so good in the colder temps! I wore a bunch of it on Sunday.
Rain turning into snow seems to be the consensus of all the weather guys and gals here. Hopefully the switch over will be quick, and there won’t be much in the way of ice or freezing rain.
Yay for Wrappings. No news for us although prior to my December vacation, I had been going in about once a week. I tried for 2 days but those were far and few in between.
The lack of solid info is frustrating! ?
I hope he doesn’t have to go in yet. They should at least wait until spring imo
He said something about going in next Tuesday to meet a new co-worker. So it could start as soon as then.
Very late today. I’m wearing a Green Tea perfume oil and lotion, something simple. We all got our booster shots earlier so I’m expecting an early bed time. I’m starting to feel a bit tired already.
Hope the effects are minor!
Thank you, h!
Hurrah for your booster! Hoping that you end up with mild side effects like I did.
Thank you, Jalapeno! However I may be looking for an excuse to avoid something annoying..
Ah, gotcha!
You should definitely rest then. 🙂
Good luck Gail!
Yay for your booster!!
