Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Extreme ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 22 July 2021 11 Comments

Yves Saint Laurent has launched Black Opium Extreme, a new gourmand fragrance for women. Black Opium Extreme is a flanker to 2014's Black Opium, which was a flanker to 1977's Opium, and is not to be confused with 2019's Black Opium Intense.

A bold twist on the classic Yves Saint Laurent Eau de Parfum, Black Opium Extreme Eau de Parfum takes the seduction to the extreme with indulgent and decadent notes of coffee, vanilla bourbon and jasmine.

Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Extreme is available at Ulta, in 30, 50 and 90 ml Eau de Parfum.

This line must be a real money-spinner for YSL because Fragrantica lists TWENTY-FOUR variants and flankers in addition to the original Black Opium. That’s one every three months!

I vaguely recall smelling the original (all I remember is that I didn’t recoil in horror) but I obviously haven’t kept up with the line, because who could?

I should note that a lot of those listings are apparently the same scent in different, limited-edition bottles. Still, though. Twenty-four!

Yes, exactly. There aren’t really any more flankers than for your average department store fragrance.

In competition with Guerlain LPRN flankers..I wonder who will triumph.

This line is on par with the Loki Variants!

I really liked Opium Neon, with the more pronounced orange scent! I tried it in high heat and wowzers it was gorgeous!

Good to know, I wouldn’t have thought it was worth trying.

That bottle is hideous. It looks like asphalt.

Does the OG Black Opium really smell like vanilla and vanilla to most people. I think it was one of those that smelled more like a semi-bitter chypre on me?!

I just sprayed some, from my now “vintage” bottle, lol. It smells like vanilla and fruity pancake syrup to me. I like it.

I definitely got vanilla from Black Opium when I had a spray sample of it. I don’t recall smelling any coffee.
