Happy Chanel No. 5 Friday! (Yes, it's also Friday the 13th and World Kindness Day.) Our community project for today: wear Chanel No. 5, or a No. 5 flanker, or a fragrance that is related to No. 5 in some way — it does not have to be by Chanel!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I am a fail. I have at least two versions of Chanel No. 5 but I had not checked on them, much less worn them, in years, and they are not in good shape. My pathetic bid for a partial point: I'm in Chanel Misia, because Michael Edwards tells us that Misia Sert says she gave Chanel the idea for the perfume that became No. 5.
Reminder: on 11/20, for Bo Derek's birthday, wear a perfume that you would rate an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try (but frequently fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image is Kristen Stewart for Chanel Spring 2020.
This is a clever interpretation of the theme, Robin. And you smell lovely.
I am in Chanel No. 5 EDT. Normally this is my favorite concentration, but this week I enjoyed EDP and Parfum more. Maybe the cold weather makes me crave richer and heavier scents.
Well thank you: I have cheating skills
I don’t have any Chanel No. 5 but I am wearing the answer to the question, “What is Guerlain No. 5?”, and that answer is Vega: a supernova of frosty aldehydes, an armload of flowers so chilly and brittle they might have been dipped in liquid nitrogen, and then slowly imperceptibly the whole thing warms up with soft, creamy sandalwood and vanilla. Maybe this sort of thing is out of date, but I can’t help feeling that if they hadn’t charged $350 for it, they’d be selling enough to still be making it, because it’s really, really good.
You make this sound absolutely wonderful. I’ve never tried it.
Vega is fantastic. You smell wonderful.
Wow, that sounds amazing!
That sounds gorgeous.
Yay for vanilla!
What a great description!
I wore a bit of an older bottle of No5 EdT, I got on ebay for one Euro. I don’t enjoy this, just keep it for reference, because it is totally not me. Topped it up with lots of Theo Fennel, which I like a lot. As I am at home watching a scientific congress via livestream, I can skank as much as I like. Made a vegetable beet bourgignon for dinner, a really good recipe from Anna Jones
One Euro? That’s a steal!
There are just 10ml left, but it’s in the beautiful lipstick flacon
I feel like we smell similar! I’m wearing Rodin Bis which is rose de mai with a ton of anise (the fennel kind) in the opening! Good call!
Theo Fennell is so good, you smell wonderful ?
If you have a chance, can you post a link to the recipe?
If you Google Anna Jones Beet Bourgignon, you will find a lot of blog posts. It tastes really good…
Based on the dishes you mention, I am guessing you are a wonderful chef.
Wearing Chanel No.5 parfum. A beauty that I don’t wear much these days, but I love nonetheless.
This has been a very busy work week. I am still behind reading comments. I am so glad is already Friday!
Stay safe and healthy, everyone! ?
Hi twin! We smell fabulous!
Enjoy your weekend!
Woke up in Shalimar Ode a la Vanille this morning. Wearing no 5 EDP this morning. I probably should have gone no 19 or Mitsouko instead because I am wondering on what insanity I am going to have to deal with at work.
Good luck Dawn, hope it is not too insane today!
Hope work is better than you think. And I broke down and bought some candles from B&BW this week I think you commented you were trying to resist to wait for Black Friday. I have been quite pleased w/ those I bought a couple months ago.
People were just nuts today. Always happens when it’s Friday the 13th and I don’t know why. I broke down and bought 2 candles yesterday but when they had the single wick candles, bought 2 more.
I’m wearing No 5 Eau Premiere, my gateway No 5. It’s still my favorite, followed by No 5 extrait.
Twins, one day apart!
Yippie Yippie No.5 L’Eau for me today.
Perfect proportions in all the categories imho. I wold love to try the Parfum one day.
I could easily hit the ‘buy now’ button in my Sephora cart where it sits for the Rouge Event. I could make some stocking stuffers for friends and family, right? I can justify it that way?
glad I showed up, it’s been an exhausting week.
yes – you can totally justify it ?
You are my twin!!
SotD: California by Jaclyn Smith. I almost wore No. 22, which is probably more of an aldehydic incense, but decided to wear the an oddball instead. I bought an unopened mini for two or three dollars at flea market and it is not in glorious shape, but after about twenty minutes it is pretty darn good and smells of now restricted spicy carnation and oakmoss along with a wedding bouquet of rose and orange blossom. The vanilla and musk in the base does not remind me of anything functional. Not a masterpiece but fun and big in that pre-ckone era of mass market scents.
Good for you monkey toe! I bet you smell marvelous.
That sounds gorgeous!
I’m about to spray on some No. 5 Eau de Parfum. I love this version, even if (or because?) it has a slightly 1980s feel to it!
Looking back, my gateway to No. 5 was a bit of the the Sensuous Elixir, shared by a kind friend. That was such good stuff.
hi scent twin! you smell divine!
woot woot woot!!!
we smell divine.
Yeah we do!
psst – Jessica, that is a great name for a club!
First rule of EdP Club?
Everyone talks about EdP Club
I still have a smidge of the Sensuous Elixir, loved that I could add a dab in my bath water for a lovely scented experience – didn’t that come out in 2005 or so?
ST you have so many beautiful bath oils!
Thanks! I think No. 5, Shalimar, and Aromatics Elixir bath oils are among my favorites.
I may take a bath tonight with EL’s Youth Dew – perfect for a rainy evening.
It was ages ago…which makes me realize how long I’ve been friends with that lovely person. I should email her today…
In No5 Parfum. What a beauty it is! I keep on nose diving to catch a whiff. ?
You smell divine!
Happy Friday all! My SOTD is vintage No. 5 extrait, layered with the EDC.
This scent is so transforming and comforting – it reminds me of Christmas in the early 1980s, getting a special Christmas gift from a very special boy. Ahhh, this is glorious stuff. Makes me a tad melancholy (in a good way) for days gone by, beloved family and friends who are no longer with us.
Espresso consumed and running shoes on. A walk in the misty SF park will lift my spirits.
I am having an espresso macchiato this morning. Made at home with almond milk
That sounds delicious! Does almond milk foam up like traditional milk?
It does in my foamer. Soy milk on the other hand doesn’t. Regular cows milk does. That is all the milk I have tried.
Thanks! I like a variety of milks, might give this a try….
Mmmm, I had a macchiato with standard cow milk this morning, but still good. Then I had a drip coffee for seconds. Happily caffeinated, and wishing you the same!
I have had too much caffeine..didn’t need this second cup
What beautiful memories ☺️
This misty morning is also sending me down memory lane. Enjoy your run!
Sounds like a great morning.
Not in No 5, but a Chanel
Coco Noir extraict parfum. I am on my last drop of the parfum, do I need another bottle? I am not thunking, I will save this little bottle to put on display somewhere…
A haiku for points
In my new robe
this morning –
Other Chanel reporting: Wednesday night I went to bed in No 22 and last night Coco Mademoiselle l’Eau Privée
You smell wonderful! I do adore Coco, and Coco Mademoiselle. What’s the Coco Mademoiselle l’Eau Privée like?
I’m going to the Frida Kahlo exhibit at the de Young tomorrow (excited!), I may wear Coco Mademoiselle extrait (dabbed, so as not to disturb other museum-goers)…
I was living in SF when the de Young opened. What a great time I had at that event!
I also owned the extriat of Coco Md but never repurchased. Next time you are out sniffing, ask your Chanel salesperson to let you smell the Coco Noir body cream in a jar so heavy it could dub as a weapon. It’s very delicious, and I know you love scented body products.
Hmmm..what is the Coco Mademoiselle l’Eau Privée like? Well, its not strong like the EdP..wears close to the skin after the initial burst. Perfect for nighttime when you can’t sleep. I have a sample of this but could see in the future that this could be a nice rotation with the Shalimar body powder
Ohhh, I moved to SF in 1999, too bad we never crossed paths! The de Young is so much fun to visit. Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll definitely ask my Chanel person for a sniff of the body cream. You know me well! I do love a nice scented body product! My favorites back in the day were Magie Noire and Ysatis Body Cream gel. The way you describe the Coco Mademoiselle l’Eau Privée sounds so tempting and it sounds right up my alley..
if you can’t sample the Privee, do let me know. I can send you the rest of my sample if you would like and/or accepting anything in the mail from another’s home.
I had a brief moment of, “Oh, you must be very old!” and then realized you meant the newly-rebuilt de Young. I was living in SF when it reopened also. Remember going to it before renovations as a child. In particular there was a Maxfield Parrish mural that always captivated me. I don’t recollect seeing it there in recent years; it’s either gone elsewhere or I’ve no idea where it’s displayed.
I’d also like to go to the Frida exhibit. I think it’s going through Spring?
Oct 15 2005 I went!
I miss that museum and also the Japanese tea garden in the park..
One day I will re-visit San Francisco. I went a few years ago to a woman’s retreat in Marin, and the city was not how I remembered it to be sadly.
The Coco Noir bottle is a stunner! I wish the original Coco came in the Coco noir bottle.
I’ve always been curious about the Coco Noir Parfum. How does it compare to the edp?
I didn’t really like the Coco Noir EdP, the pure parfum is still very gourmand, but not that sweet on me. Others have commented that is has a richer violet/iris notes compared to the EdP and sandalwood as well. I would sniff it out and do report back when you do.
Thanks for your thoughts! I think I liked but didn’t love the edp, and I remember wondering if the Parfum would push it over the top. More iris, violet, and sandalwood sound good to me!
I would say the parfum is more plush were as I found the EdP really screechy. Not sure if that makes sense..
Of course you should get another bottle of that Coco Noir parfum. It sounds like you would miss it very much if you didn’t have it.
As Popeye would say “I yam what I yam.”
I chose what so many others have just mentioned: Chanel No 22 in the current EdP version, of which I got myself a sample in order to finally understand what those aldehydes are actually about. And even if today is the first time I try it, I actually like it quite well. So I can only wonder what the extrait would smell like …
I love No. 22 in any version.
No. 22 is so beautiful! I have the EDT, so gorgeous.
It’s also potato pancakes day today XD
I’m feeling elegant in a couple of sprays of Bois des Iles.
Oh, yummy! Sour cream or applesauce??
I like to eat them with garlic cream sauce, or with a meat stew.
Oh, a garlic cream sauce sounds tasty!
Potato pancakes day??? That I can get behind!
Seriously. Pass the sour cream.
Pancakes…I will be right over with my plate..
You’ll get your serving for sure.
I’m so glad it’s Friday. I wore vintage Coco yesterday – never got to post. And today, I’m in Chanel No. 5 extrait that a friend bought for me a few years ago in France. I’m going to add a spritz of the No. 5 L’eau I bought this summer – I’m curious to compare the two together as I never have!
You smell marvelous SP! Vintage Coco is exquisite.
Vintage Coco!!! ???
vintage coco!!!! lucky duck
Vintage Coco is something I dream about. It used to be so so good— actually my favourite Chanel of all time. How lucky you are to have it: you smell fantastic.
Lol – y’all are excited about my vintage Coco. I agree, it’s lovely. But all I have are two 1.5 ml samples from a generous NST poster, not a bottle. However, I thoroughly enjoy my samples – even a dab goes a long way.
I love Chanel No. 5, but decided to wear Gold Woman (Amouage’s homage to No. 5). I’m in jeans and an old sweater but at least I smell grand!
Love jeans and old sweater with Gold!!
We really should have regular Chanel days — just picture the cloud of elegance we’re broadcasting across the world! I couldn’t find my sample of Eau Premiere so I’m in a *very* vintage sample of the No. 5 EDP. It’s probably 20 years old, so who knows how ‘off’ it might be at this point — I’m not a No. 5 afficionado. But it smells quite good and has a warm, rosy depth to it that I didn’t remember.
I agree! We could rule the world with No.19 alone! let’s pick the 19th of a month, hopefully a Friday and do it!
A new CP perhaps?
We can do a RC31, No.22, No.18 each on a different month.
That sounds fun ?
I remember being 20 years old. I’m feeling a kinship with your decant I guess.
Hi OF- I just wanted to tell you that I have been wearing my decant of 19-69 Rainbow Bar and it is GREAT stuff! Thank you for my goodies (awhile back I know but this little guy kept going with me everywhere so we were friends even before we were buddies!)
Ha ha — the No.5 sample is *way* classier than I was at 20!
This made me laugh.
Still not in Chanel although I own a full bottle of Eau Première and have a few samples of No.5 EdP and EdT.
I’m in Amouage Gold which takes the aldehydic rose jasmine champagne theme a little further still.
I admire No.5 and will probably get a small bottle of extrait at some point. Gold is similar but this one makes me feel giddy and happy with its opulence, elegance and sheer beauty. It was the first Amouage I ever bought and it is still my absolute favourite from the line. It makes me wish I could have thanked Guy Robert in person for the creation of this gem.
That one is gorgeous. You smell fantastic.
Actually, it’s one of the few fragrances I could picture myself wearing every day. Just off to check out what you are wearing.
It’s been too long since I’ve pulled out my sample of Gold.
I’m failing the CP too. I have a litany of excuses:
1. No 5 is my MIL’s signature scent so I can’t wear it. Though to be fair, I can wear No 5 L’eau and No 5 Eau Premiere and No 5 gold-sparkly-stuff. All of which I own. (An aside: MIL’s emergency surgery was successful. She’s now in a rehab facility, which does not allow visitors, so our visit to NJ is on hold.)
2. Which brings me to excuse number 2: all my No 5’s are still in the basement since I haven’t yet swapped my summer for winter fumes (it was 80 degrees out just a week ago!)
3. And my final excuse: SO BUSY with retirement! Haven’t had time this week to do the seasonal perfume swap. Maybe this weekend???
I did sample a No 5 cousin this week though: Guerlain Liu. Nice, but I think I can survive without it.
I’m so glad to hear MIL’s emergency surgery went well. Here’s to a smooth therapy and journey to recovery.
Glad to hear surgery went well!
I haven’t switched out my perfumes yet either. It is cold enough now–so if not this coming weekend, then very soon after.
A good result–your MIL did well, and there is no pressure to travel to her!
Glad your MIL pulled through!
#1. So what are you wearing, if not No. 5?
Also #1. Good news about MIL!
#3. I CAN’T wait to be super busy with retirement!!
Good news on your MIL’s surgery. And get ready to be busy in retirement – you’ll wonder how you ever found the time to work!
That’s great news about the surgery!
You beat me on the excuse front, pixel!
Glad retirement is keeping you busy, and so happy to hear about your MIL.
I think you posted about evilBay not allowing used perfume sales and wanted to give you the category below that allows you to list perfume as used/pre-owned that I see other resisters using…
eBay>Collectibles>Vanity, Perfume & Shaving>Perfumes>Other Perfume Collectibles
Glad to hear that your MIL’s surgery was a success!
Not a #5 fan, and not even that much of a Chanel fan, but wearing Sycamore today, and it’s great.
Sycomore is lovely. I think it would work well on a man.
I don’t have Chanel No.5, and I can’t find my freebiemeet decant of Eau Premiere. Today I chose a new decant of Bana Banana. I should have read Kevin’s review before I bought the decant. I loved the opening, hate the rest.
Oh dear. I was afraid I would feel that way also so didn’t even try.
Do try the Blackbird he recommends in that review, it’s great!
SotD = No. 5 EdP
Oh, how I adore this perfume. Just one spritz down the front of my blouse wafts all day, or I walk though a cloud of a few sprays in the air. It’s heavenly.
In truth I can’t wear No. 5 all that often, I have to be in the mood for it. It’s perfectly comforting this time of year when it’s cold outdoors and cozy to be at home so much of the time.
Funny No. 5 stories:
A new bottle of the parfum came my way a few years ago, but I had to pass it on to a fragrance friend. The parfum was so faint to my nose that I could hardly smell it, even after weeks of trying! Maybe I was noseblind from another scent. Or perhaps that iteration of the parfum had been tweaked with a heavy musk molecule that blocked out the rest of the scent for me.
The other day I saw Hugh Grant interviewed by Steven Colbert. Speaking about his (temporary) loss of smell due to covid19, he said he was so desperate to smell something he sprayed his wife’s No. 5 directly into his face. Couldn’t smell a thing. So strange.
NSTers, be safe and be fragrant! Perfumed hugs to everyone.
Hi tiffanie – I have to be in the mood for No. 5 as well. It’s not an every day scent for me – I don’t know why. Also to your point about the parfum – I find mine fairly quiet for sure. I prefer it quiet so I’m okay with that. My 5 L’eau on the other wrist has overtaken the parfum and usually lasts all day on me, although I hear that’s not true for others.
Thank you for sharing your parfum experience. I will try it again from time to time, I can’t resist it when I see it. I have a bit of vintage parfum that is much stronger than the modern ones I’ve sniffed, but it is much quieter than the EdP.
L’eau is super strength on me. too!
ahahah, I need to watch that interview now…!
I agree, it’s perfect for rainy, chilly days. I remember wearing it on a day like today, probably a decade ago, on a chilly outing to a pop-up Chanel exhibit in Central Park (inside a big curvy modernist museum-pod)…it was perfect.
oh, wow! I would have loved the Chanel exhibit. I miss the serendipity of being in NYC.
And do try to find that Colbert interview. Hugh Grant is as charming as ever.
So, I go nose blind fairly easily…and I may not have a great sense of smell more generally. My mom at some point took out some long hoarded Parfum. I can’t remember if it was number 5 AND Joy or just one of them – but it smelled really weak to both of us. If you put you nose right to your wrist you could smell (or imagine you were smelling) something marvellously rich and rounded but only with it almost right up against your nose. Perhaps it had lost its smell over time. Generally I have not had good experience with extraits.
thanks, Merlin, that’s good to know. I do wonder if extrait formulations have some “extra big” heavy scent molecules (musks or something) that can overwhelm our noses.
Similarly, I love some of the Narciso perfumes but can only smell them for a few minutes. Then I’m totally noseblind, sometimes for a few days.
I winced when I read that bit about Hugh Grant and his desperate attempt to smell something! Ouch!
My Chanel No.5 body oil is a distant memory–and my edt of the perfume even more distant. I considered wearing White Linen, for the aldehydes in common, but didn’t have it in me.
So, instead I went with a generous dollop of Coco body lotion on my hands, and a liberal application of Paris Venise everywhere else, on the theory that two Chanels that are nothing like No. 5–errr two negatives equal a positive–for Chanel No. 5.
Now, that is a beautiful mind at work on perfume math.
Love your method.??
Epic fail with the community project today, but boy,DO I SMELL GOOD!!
Rochas Byzance,the original.
One could say-to tie in with the cp-it is one of the grande dames of oldschool perfumery, like No.5.
I do have plenty of Chanel and No.5 in all shapes, vintages, newbies and concentrations, was just in the mood for Byzance today as someone here mentioned it during the week.
I think you get points for the CP
I will take them gladly!?
You smell fabulous. Byzance is near and dear to my heart.
Yes, I seem to recall you mentioned it earlier this week!I’m so glad I took mine out,I have not worn this in ages!
Fell in love all over again!
Maybe I’ll wear Tocade or Mystere tomorrow!
Byzance is heaven, one of the triumphs of late-eighties perfumery and one I think never got the stardom it deserved. You don’t need me to tell you how great you smell!
Happy Friyay to you, too!
Friday at last!!! ?
Trying some Oud Bouquet from a generous NSTer. ?
Sounds like a purchase might be coming on?
I’m also a member of the Gotta-To-Be-In-The-Mood-for-No.-5 group. I’ve tried with No 5, but it’s not something I regularly crave anymore. Before I started collecting fragrances, I greatly enjoyed a bottle of the No. 5 cologne concentration. These days, I have a column bottle of Premiere, and a bottle of the Elixir (which doesn’t smell like much of anything). I sprayed on Premiere a little bit ago, and couldn’t do it, too soapy. After washing it off, I have to say the remnants smell really good!
Right now, I’m wearing tiny dabs of a variety of things, chasing small shots of joy.
Have a good day, y’all!
“… wearing tiny dabs of a variety of things, chasing small shots of joy.”
So aptly put!
No. 5 was my first perfume gift from a man and I had mixed feelings about it (and him.) Now I love it. Wearing a spritz of an old bottle of edt over the dusting powder
I have full bottles of No 5 L’eau and the EDP, but the edp won out today. I think I’m usually more impressed by the edp but find more occasions to wear l’eau. I’ve worn l’eau on job interviews, to important meetings, to funerals, and to weddings—basically any time I want to smell polished but not bother anyone.
Chanel No 5 Parfum
A couple of months ago, at the start of winter, i began putting out an apple each evening for a wobegon blackbird with a droopy wing that I was worried about. She was always the last bird of night…and is still coming to feed ( and I am pretty certain now that she was a juvenile moulting her primary wing feathers). Anyway, blackbirds love apple and so I get about 8 or so birds visiting ( such wonderful birds, especially at dawn) . This past week a male has been turning up with a fledgling. The young bird is quite speckled, the size of the adult and gormless. It sits on the rail like a feathered deflated balloon. The male has an incredibly difficult task. It has to peack, peck, peck, at the apple until its beak is spilling over with apple flesh, all the whike trying to keep the other blackbirds and starlings out of the way. It then hops along the rail. The juvenike blob opens its beak and the male inserts the apple. Then the male returns to the apple, fights off the other birds and repeats. It is exhausting just watching…imagine trying to feed your kids with one hand while fending off the neighbours. Another green day here, so lush and easy on the eye. Wearing Cristalle.
Woebegone…not the shark or lake
Last Friday you asked me about my museum adventure, not sure you saw my reply but I went to the waterfall mansion here in NYC
I didn’t see, sorry. Have just googled it and what a remarkable place. Museum envy!
It was great, and you get a private tour that is one hour. My favorite piece was actually a mechanical art piece. It opens when you approach it, like ones heart opening to you. Very cool!
Gosh, love the name of those birds! I had my own bird adventure yesterday too. I wish I could have got a better picture–a great horned owl was roosting in our back yard terrifying our small, feisty orange tabby. I heard him hissing like mad, and went to investigate. He was puffed up to twice his size, and his pupils were huge black discs. When the owl took off, from tip to tip her wingspan was about 5 feet and her flight completely soundless.
An owl! You must feel so special. Whenever we have an owl visit (which is sadly not often), I am pleased and feel “noticed” for weeks on end. As though the universe has bestowed a gift on me.
I know, right? I was sooooo excited.
I saw that on your Instagram ! how cool
Glad that your kitty is OK after his close encounter with the owl!
Well, as one friend (and an amateur ornithologist to boot) said–the little guy had it coming given all the little song birds he’s sent to song bird heaven!
Aw what a sweet story! I’m sure all the birds speak fondly of you.
I love that description – especially of the gormless baby ?
I love blackbirds – thanks for the observations!
I enjoyed that little tale; thanks for sharing. I was never much of a bird watcher, but now that I’m working from home everyday, and barely going anywhere when I’m not working, I’ve found a new pastime in watching the local wildlife. I just didn’t pay as much attention before.
“Gormless” is such a great word.
I forgot about the community project but I’ve been using the Frederic Malle samples my sister sent me for my birthday all week. Today is Musc Ravageur, which is less musk and more a gorgeous amber. Yesterday was Portrait of a Lady, which could be worn just about anywhere and for any occasion, and before that Carnal Flower, the only tuberose fragrance I’ve ever loved. It is almost absurdly beautiful.
I LOVE all of these Frederic Malle fragrances, it’s too bad they’re so expensive. You smell great!
I am so TGIF today!! I love many Chanel’s (looking at you Cristalle), but not No. 5 so much. So, I am wearing the only version that I can wear and enjoy, No. 5 L’eau….soft and lovely.
Have a good day, try not to give in to that whole “it’s Friday the 13th 2020” vibe….
We are twins!
I forgot that it was Friday the 13th. But maybe that explains why the registers and self checkouts at the grocery store were acting weird…
SOTD = Chanel No. 5 L’Eau
From my most special RED bottle❣️ If Chanel ever comes up with other colors, I would be there even before the ad is finished.
The Sniffapalooza x Le Sirenuse Positano event was fun last night! If anything, this was less structured, like Sniffapalooza itself – structured framework but more casual talk and Real stories. I may have fallen in love with Jasmin Leather but we’ll see …
Is that the Eau d’Italie Jasmin Leather? Sounds nice.
Yes it is! I still have the blotters and revisit.
Plus that gift bag!
Swoon indeed. The packaging is top notch for sure. I went to Macy’s the other day and the floor display of Chanel was ho-hum.
That Sniffa was just what the doctor ordered. The Jasmine Leather will be coming my way, ?. What were your thoughts on the ALTAIA line?
The Wonder of You keeps me sniffing and going back again. Don’t Cry for Me is tempting, but the two together, (accidentally) a real wow.
I still have the blotters and will fan myself with the right see how they smell together. I smelled oud in the Wonder in You and is smelling on the bitter-ish side.
I just registered for the Scotch Porter sniffapalooza. I absolutely love the smell of their hair balm, and the descriptions of their new colognes sounds like something my husband would really like.
I did too! I wasn’t quite sure if the company was going to cover beard stuff and I’m glad the email included a picture of the soon to be released perfumes.
I had gotten an email from Scotch Porter about the colognes and was intrigued. Then the sniffapalooza email showed up a few days later and I was sold. I have bought a lot of their beard products for Tom, and he’s a big fan. I use their hair balm myself.
I registered, too!
Not sure I could picture other colors for No. 5. But a green bottle for No. 19 would be amazing!
I have that red bottle too! So gorgeous! But like others, I yearn for a green bottle for No. 19. Sigh.
I decided to go with modern no.22 edp. What light through yonder window breaks!
I love No. 22! I have the EDT. It was the first Chanel I ever bought for myself.
Just a dab of No. 5 parfum. I put Stash oil on my parched legs and the two are playing nicely together.
Stash oil twin! Knees and elbows here; you smell wonderful! I may test your combo…..
What a good idea! I like Stash very much but I never know what to do with the oil that came in my set.
I’m a fail on the CP, but maybe points for my only Chanel — 31 rue Cambon?
I could have done Gold which would have been closer to the No. 5, but not quite the right mood today.
Happy Friday, all!
You smell wonderful!
I’m hoping for partial points in Chanel Cristalle EDP.
I love Cristalle. I prefer the EdT. How do you like the EDP?
I usually prefer the EDT as well, but sometimes I really appreciate the richness (and lasting power!) of the EDP. They are different, to be sure, but they share a lot of DNA. The EDP is what I turn to if I want to feel a bit like Marlene Dietrich.
Cristalle is always right.
No perfume yet, I’m indulging in a lazy start to a Saturday morning. The sun is shining and it looks lovely outside, but there is a cold wind that means a summery dress is not going to be a good idea.
I’m not a big fan of aldehydic perfumes, I so wanted to like Amouage Gold, but it just didn’t work for me. Inspired by the thought of Amouage, I might spray a little Beloved later.
So I began by playing, with Pour Monsieur which is at least Chanel. Later I saw my little decant of Amouage Fate was almost gone so I tried for some last dabs and got some talc with a bit of an incense nuance to it. And then I acted true to my wholly contrarian heart and lead a full frontal rebellion against all forms of elegance and good taste by spritzing myself with Snow Fairy! ?♀️ ????♀️
Nothing wrong with liking what you like! Spray it loud & proud!
Spray it loud and proud is going to be my new slogan
Crazy busy work day. I’m wearing and thunking No.5 vintage cologne spray. It’s beautiful and fleeting. My favorite is L’eau. It suits me better. I like Eau Premiere, but last I tried it, it still gives me a headache for some reason.
I am almost willing to say L’eau is my favorite No. 5 as well but I don’t want any other others to hear me say it ?
Lol! But I totally get it?
Yay for a bottle THUNK!
It was a small decant that I’ve been nursing forever. Figured it was a good day to use it or lose it!
Decant thunks are Good Things, too! ?
SOTD = No. 5 EDP, this bottle is maybe 7 years old. I always own more Guerlain perfumes than any other house, but I suspect I have used up more bottles of Chanel No. 5 than any other perfume in my collection – I tried to count how many bottles I have had, but that is lost in the sands of time. Right now I have this half full 30 ml bottle of the EDP and a few drops of Parfum in a travel spray, which I am saving for New Year’s Eve. I used to wear this a lot when I was working as a therapist, not so much now, but it is a cornerstone of my collection. It agrees with my chemistry so well. Right now it is mostly iris, with a little sweet suedeish amber base. Good to revisit old friends. I love these community projects!
Robin, so sorry about your vintage Chanels. ? Even if I hardly ever wear something, it’s always a disappointment to find it’s gone off. Boo-boo.
I used to wear No. 5 quite a bit when I was younger, but I got out of the habit somehow. Today, I am feeling elegant in a dab of the vintage perfume I have, which is still lovely. I will always have a soft spot for Chanel No. 5, since it was the first perfume gift I ever received (at age 11.) I still feel like a grown-up when I wear it, lol!
Late reply, but it made me sad only in the sense of the waste…I just don’t fit into No. 5
Very late to the party but wearing a smear or two of old-isa No 5 Parfum. Smells fabulous.
You do smell good, Portia!
It wafted around me all day, softly but insistently.
Must be very nice indeed to have a stash of “old-ish” parfum!
Oh yes Jalapeno,
It is nice. Especially when an NST event calls for it and I remember to pull it out and wear it.
Come over one day and we can both waft around the place in it.
Nice to see & smell you here!
You are always so welcoming and lovely.
Nice to be here hanging together.
You smell terrific!
Can’t deny it PL67. I really do.
You well and living the good life?
Wearing Chanel No. 5 body creme and a few sprays of l’eau on my wrists and shirt for extra good measure. I feel extra fancy today so I even put on some earrings (to be at home).
Happy Friday everyone!
That is fancy! I haven’t worn earings in 6 months now. I really should try the body cream. It seems so luxurious.
The body creme is very ‘extra’ and is so fragrant.
I figured that I might as well wear some jewelry at home since who knows when we will be able to go out anywhere again??
So I need to hydrogen peroxide my ears because I fear the holes may have closed. What am I to do with my pierced earrings?
How long ago were your ears pierced?
You can buy a pair of the earrings they use to pierce ears, with the sharp ponts, and jam them back in to reopen the holes. But if your ears have been pierced for decades, it’s likely the holes are not really shut.
Coincidentally I also had to do that as my piercings (2nd holes) seemed to have closed up; mind you it’s been years since I put earrings in there.
I was successful with one; almost got the 2nd one done but will try again in a day or 2. I just used a stud earring which was sanitized! Good luck!!
Ooh, fancy! You smell marvelous! And earrings too — wow.
Thank you. I balanced out the Chanel and earrings with a hoody and fleece pants!
Woo Hoo! I love the idea of CHANEL No 5. fancy earrings and sweats! So cool Gail.
Thanks to everyone who wished Mr. Jalapeno well! He is doing even better today… much more present, now that the post-op drugs have worn off.
Usually No. 5 and I don’t get along at all. However, I have been down the perfumed rabbit hole long enough to know “Never say never.”
SOTD = Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere EdT, from the sample stash. It’s a pretty floral and musk scent on me that is quietly present for 8 hours and counting. Guess I have to smell the EdP version of it while I still have some EdT to compare it to…
Glad your hubby’s surgery went well. You of course smell nice; I wore Eau Premiere yesterday.
Thank you! Eau Premiere was the perfect thing for today…
Very glad to hear he’s on the mend! And I love No. 5 Eau Premiere.
Somehow I missed your post, just wanted to add my wishes for a speedy recovery for your hubby. Glad his surgery went well and may he get better every day!
Thanks! Yesterday was a crazy day, for sure.
Glad your husband is on the mend. I like your ‘never say never ‘, ?.
Have a wonderful night.
Thank you! I slept in this morning… boy, that felt good!
Yay for husbands recovery and glad to see you enjoying Eau Premier Jalapeño,
Glad to hear he’s doing well!
I’m joining today’s project in Chanel No. 5 edp from a sample. It almost feels like heresy to say, but it does nothing for me. I don’t care for it but I don’t hate it either. I haven’t tried it in awhile but I still have the same reaction to it as I always have. I’m not much of a Chanel fan, anyway, although I do like Coco, Bois des Iles, Coromandel, and LaPausa and do wear these occasionally. But reading that Robin and several of you are not fans either makes me feel ok about saying that.
And, Robin, I wanted to wish you belated birthday wishes. ???! I hope that the year ahead is a happy and healthy one for you, and thank you for providing this special corner of the world for us.?
Self-care for me today: a soak in the hot tub under glorious ? and a trip to the library to pick up the newest Louise Penny book I’ve been waiting a month for! I’m so looking forward to Inspector Gamache taking me away from the election-that-should-have-been-over-but-never-seems-to-end and the Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations increasing dramatically here.
Hoping this weekend will provide a nice escape from the cares of the world today for all NST’ers, too!
Did you guys go into another stay at home order?
As of now, both the City of Chicago and the entire state of Illinois are under a Stay at Home ‘advisory.’ Everyone is ‘encouraged’ to stay home except for work, school, grocery/pharmacy, essential errands only. Any gathering for events like weddings, funerals, etc., are limited to 10 people. Restaurants are closed for indoor dining. It’s clear we are on the cusp of an ‘order,’ which I would not be surprised to hear soon. Chicago’s Mayor has already said if you have plans to travel for Thanksgiving or have people over who don’t live in your household, cancel them. The City’s Health director said she is more concerned now than she was in March. Pretty ominous stuff. Not sure about my Thanksgiving plans, was just going to have a very small gathering, may just go virtual now.
I saw part of that speech on the news tonight. Very sobering.
Yes, sobering indeed. The news just grows grimmer by the day.
I’m going to stay home & bake a lasagna for thanksgiving.
Mmm, love lasagna. I will probably make my usual butternut squash/mushroom soup and pumpkin dessert but the turkey and trimmings will come from a nearby restaurant. Just don’t have the emotional wherewithal this year to make my usual feast.
Nice that you had a wonderful relaxing day!
A belated thank you, Laila, and hope Inspector Gamache performed as expected
Chanel No. 5 has never been my bag. I tried No. 22 many years ago, but it was too ladylike for me. Im a No. 19 girl, even though I don’t own it right now.
But…I stole a decant of L’Eau Premiere from my sister (who vastly prefers original No. 5 and wears nothing else). And I do like it. It works on me.
Oh wait, never mind. We were twins one day apart!
Not even close to the CP – I’m wearing PHI Une Rose de Kandahar. But No. 5 is my mom’s signature scent and it makes me happy to think that she has so many great-smelling, fabulous scent twins today.
#5 was my mother’s signature for decades, too. Until I came along. ?
SOTD: Mishmash of samples from Eau d’Italie. Does it count if I open #5 and sniff it?
I appreciate all of the kind thoughts yesterday. No neurologists will see new patients, emergency or not, until months out. Covid is a huge worry, but they won’t do tele-health until they have their first consultation.
Going for a walk and buying a perfume. Because.
Many hugs back to the NST community.
Missed your post yesterday but adding kind thoughts to the others!
Hugs to you! I did not have time to respond last night. I don’t have recommendation for a neurologist.
I’ll grab that hug. ?
Did anything from Eau d’Italie steal your heart? Or your wallet?
I snagged a tester of Paestum Rose, which is being discontinued.
And I plan on the Jasmine Leather or Wonder of You.
These were pretty unique to me.
Have to resniff, but my emotions always let me justify a purchase.
Walking with my ? somehow makes everything better, too.
Oh! That’s a shame about Paestum Rose being d/c’ed. Good timing on your part.
They’re discontinuing Paestum Rose?? I still have probably half of a bottle but now I’m thinking I’d better try to get another. One of those perfumes for me that evokes a particular time and place (actually, two times and places).
And…yes, everyone is sold out except shops in Norway and Australia, and they only ship to their countries. Sigh.
And I do hope you get to see a neurologist soon! But Paestum Rose is a lovely way to deal with the search!
Biggest hugs to you. I totally get buying a perfume “because”. What perfume did you decide to buy?
Thank you, Sistine. That Paestum ? was my first purchase, because it is not a typical rose and, I got a tester, which means cheaper, and a discount, which makes a beautiful cheap addition to the collection!
Very happy to share this with people. I got a great deal and I won’t ever use 100mls.
So kind, you are.
That is so frustrating to not be able to even speak to a doctor. I’m glad you got yourself a little perfumed treat. Hang in there.
Thanks, Cazaubon. I’m so grateful for your encouragement. It keeps me positive.
Too easy to give up.
Good luck AnniePerfumes. XXX
Thank you, Portia?
Annie, so sorry – seems contrary to medical ethics to refuse to see someone who needs assistance. I hope the perfume helps –
Good luck Annie.
Chanel EDP today, which was then followed by some Azemour and then vintage Jolie Madame.
It’s been windy, rainy and cold all day. Our house is terribly energy inefficient and super expensive to heat. So, cold. I’m wearing two pairs of wool socks. Very glad to be done with work for the day, now curled up in bed with a glass of wine and about to crack open a trashy novel I won’t confess to reading.
I’m in the middle of moving, so my perfume stash is buried at the bottom of some box, but IF I had it out I would have worn my sample of No. 5 Eau Premiere! Hope I can catch the next CP and be unpacked by then -__-
Ugh, moving! Good luck! ?
I did something I rarely do, which is a single spritz of my late mother’s vintage No. 5 EDT. You know, I may need to get my own. I always think of No. 5 as “her” Chanel, but sniffing my wrists today — it is a masterpiece. So unique, so lovely, so recognizable. I will always think of No. 22 as “my” Chanel, since it was my first and always, and I love No. 19 and Cristalle, but my oh my, that No. 5.
Which version of No. 5 would you get as “yours”? The EdT? Or something else?
I may have to get the No. 5 EDT, out of nostalgia for my late mother. I have and love No. 5 Eau Premiere. Also No. 5 L’Eau (in the fancy red bottle, love that so much!) but I think of that as more suitable for my daughters (who are in their 20s). I gave a second red bottle of it to my oldest. I think Eau Premiere may be “my” No. 5. What about you?
Usually I give No. 5 a wide berth. All the versions I have come across in department stores like Macy’s, etc. are very soapy to me. I just figured it wasn’t my thing. Then I got a small dabber sample of Eau Premiere EdT when decanters were still allowed to sell Chanel samples. I was pleasantly surprised by that one.
Late to the party, but want to log in SotD: Chanel No. 5 epd. I think this one is a ’90’s/early 2000’s but not sure. Aldehydes and sandalwood. I respect and enjoy it, but it (so far) just is not a love. Finished the day in my dear Estee Super. Have a good weekend all!
My Thursday bedtime fragrance was Chanel Paris-Riviera. For a moment there was a note that didn’t seem like something restful at all, and then it was all right to relax to. But I figure I did the actual project on Thursday during the day.
Thanks for the good wishes for Mr. Jalapeno the other day! Have a good weekend.
