Happy Almost-Friday! (And a quick reminder: the swapmeet is coming up on Saturday.) What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Parfum d'Empire Azemour Les Orangers, from new wave summer colognes.
Reminder: 5/15 is the International Day of Families. Name your favorite fragrance family, and wear one or more fragrances in that family, OR, make up your own fragrance family (like, say, wood pudding), define it for us, and wear the best example of that family.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2020, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Such a beautiful picture Robin and you smell amazing.
I am in leftover Cuir de Lancome but will grab my Memo African Leather sample soon.
Happy Almost Friday.
I actually have something to offer in the swap meet this time.
Leftover Cuir de Lancome must smell great.
Buona giornata, come va le tue lezione italiane?
Bene, ma i compiti sono difficili per me
e` sempre cosi´all’inizio però diventa più facile pronto. è vero che tu impari più degli sbagli che l’altri. lo faccio ancora e spesso quando smetto di praticare.
Love Cuir de Lancôme (look at my phone being so smart, there), it’s in my future during my week of Leather…
Will you publish your week in advance? I’d love to see the list.
I have a few other samples that I need to pull out as they may evaporate soon if I don’t: MPG Cuir Fetiche, and a small few drops of SL Cuir Mauresque to be exact.
I just got lost in my closet and sniffed like 20 scents that I really missssssssed, so now in overload but in a happy state of confusion like the rest of us probably??.
Well I haven’t been planning each day, just pulling from the pile throughout the day…
But here’s still in the queue of things that are clearly leather or have a leather supporting note:
St. Clair Gardener’ Glove (sample just arrived!), Hermes Kelly Caleche, Hermes Cuir d’Ange, ELDO Vierges et Toreros, ELDO Charogne, Hiram Greene Hyde (pulled it out of the giveaway pile, distinctly didn’t like it, but in the interests of expanding my perceptions thought I should try again), Aftel Cuir de Gardenia (another one plucked from discard pile), Dzongkha, Ineke Field Notes From Paris, Ineke Evening Edged in Gold, Ferragamo Leather Rose, and finally the following Memo Leathers: Irish, Italian, Russian and Moroccan (though I did the last earlier in the week).
This will probably bleed into next week…
Completed thus far:
MONDAY: Chanel Cuir de Russie, Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours, Memo Moroccan Leather
TUESDAY: Knize Ten, J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin Leder 6, Molinard Cuir, ELDO Tom of Finland, Beaufort London Iron Duke
WEDNESDAY: Bottega Veneta Bottega Veneta, Bottega Veneta Eau de Velours, Strange Invisible Perfumes Black Rosette, Frederic Malle Rose & Cuir
THURSDAY: Demeter Russian Leather, Robert Piguet Bandit EDT and EDP, L’Artisan Dzing!, Histoires de Parfum 1740
Can’t believe I accumulated so many leather samples and bottles!
I’ll have to try the two you mentioned.
The far drydown of CdL is gorgeous
I was really surprised when I caught it a whiff of it this morning.
I do love this perfume and it is just so very comforting.
Yes! I bought it blind, and wasn’t impressed at first. Then, sometime later I moved my arm and caught a whiff of something gorgeous. It was me!
Have you tried other Memo Leathers?
Not yet Lucasi, but I did order a small sample of Italian Leather which gets praise here.
Have you tried other Memo leathers?
I really like this house, would you recommend any?
I am obsessed with Italian Leather! It’s sooo sooo good!
I also liked Maroccan Leather and Russian Leather was interesting as well.
They also just launched Ocean Leather, which seems odd but I’m curious.
Thanks Lucasi, that is great to hear!
I can’t wait to try it.
I saw the Ocean Leather advertised.
Do let us know what you think.
Maybe Ocean Leather is sharkskin?
In didn’t love Italian Leather when I first tried it, but going to give it another go.
Cuir de Lancome is one of my “unicorn” scents. I have a small sample of it that I am guarding like it contains gold.
That is adorable.
It’s seriously good.
Basilico & Fellini from Vilhelm Parfumerie. Nice figgy scent.
Imho it is one of the cool perfume names. Is it fig or fig leaf?
It’s a very cool fragrance name, which is why I originally even looked at the bottle. I’m not expert enough to distinguish between fig leaf and other greenery. I can say that it’s very leafy smelling, although that might be the basil. Then there is also the fig. So leafy + figgy.
Leau de Kasaneka
For out of sync today, I’m wearing Salome while planning a day of work-from-home, yoga, and baking brownies. I’ve put on fully half of my 1 mL sample. My kid said she liked it! I was shocked. Then she sneezed and said it was a little strong. This is way more Salome then I would ever wear at one application, and certainly not for doing yoga.
WOW. You are rocking your theme!
Go big AND stay home!
Ohh boy do you smell great.
Thank you! I may pass out from the fumes, but I’ll be happy when I do.
Death by Salomé…I can think of worse ways to go!
Wow, that much Salome is something
That’s a lot of Salome!
Cup of green tea from Simpson & Vail
Guerlain eyeshadow, floral blouse and eggplant colored jeans
You smell and look wonderful!
thank you! How is the weather in Montreal?
It was nice today, 18C! Rain tomorrow, but then back to sun and 20C this weekend. Windows open, yay!!
Lovestosmellgood – did you ever try the Guerlain’s Kohl powder in those bullet-shaped applicators? Intimidating to use the first time out but oh-so-beautiful.. My favorite is the Bleu #03.
no, I have used their regular Kohl pencil but not this device. Tell me more..
Does it wash off easily? with their kohl pencil it gave me raccoon eyes for days..
It is still in production, I just checked Guerlain dot com. It was a marvelous liner, it didn’t irritate my eyes and washed off easily. I have it in the Bleu, Black, and Mirage (taupe brown).
The Non Blonde did a review on her blog a while back.
maybe they don’t make it anymore?
Guerlain still makes it, I double-checked their website.
I see the Shalimar bottle (the one that is the Limited Edition) is on there US website.
What a beautiful picture – the subject, the camera angle, the light!
I am in Hypnotic Poison, since it is another cool and rainy day here. I am about to go out to enjoy the smell of lilacs after the rain.
It is a cool sunny day and I am happy in a little splash of Demeter Honey, the simplified, inoffensive (or at least less offensive, I hope) version of the polarizing Serge Lutens Miel de Bois. I like Honey a lot: it seems like the perfect balance of sweet (lots), sourish/astringent (just enough), and floral (I mean, honey *is* made of flowers). No lasting power, but we expect this of the Demeters.
DAMMIT I meant to post this and then I was going to comment on your post and this is what happens. Ugh. Sorry.
What I was going to say is that I am very envious of your lilacs, because we usually get them at the very end of May but it’s been so cool/cold that I can’t see having them before mid-June: none of the trees have leaves on them let, let alone flower buds.
We have leaves but no flower buds in Montréal. Still hoping for an end of May bloom. I looove lilacs.
You will get them, be patient. I love lilacs too, and I am sorry that their blooming period is so short.
I love May because of blooming lilacs and horse chestnuts. The latter do not smell much, but look very majestic.
Honey is one of my favorite Demeters! I’m also a fan of their Beeswax, and the two are fun to layer.
Lilacs in the rain reminds me of a perfume by Malle.
Yes, I always imagine wet lilacs when I wear En Passant.
I wish I could wear this! Maybe mine is just an older bottle. I have a love for all things Poison (perfume, ?).
“Smells like California” week continues with Le Labo’s Musc 25 – the Los Angeles city exclusive. I love this scent, and it’s my “get focused and get bleep done” scent. This will be very useful this afternoon, when I have a 4 hour window to pack up my entire classroom. (My district believes this is ample time. I believe my district has never actually packed up a classroom, especially one that was abandoned on a regular old Friday afternoon in March.)
Eye roll. Oh well, I smell fabulous.
Rolling my eyes too. You smell great. Chin up!
Good luck with the packing. That sounds stressful and sad.
Yikes, sorry to hear about the packing news. Do you get any help at all? I hope you aren’t expected to be moving cabinets and furniture!
You do smell fabulous! Good luck with the packing!
Good luck w/ the packing. I would think that would be very emotional as well. Big hug.
That’s nuts. I hope they let you keep books and supplies there and just grab personal items. Maybe the teacher’s union can get you and your coworkers an extra day. Or ask for them to let you leave whatever you can’t pack up and come in earlier in August.
Just thoughts. Wishing you the best.
Oof, how awful. Wishing you luck in doing the best you can in that time.
Sistine, that is crazy and hope it went ok!
Early this morning, I put a little spritz from my sample of Acqua di Parma Colonia Mirra on my arms. I have to wash it off, since my folks can’t deal with that combination of herbs and spices, and it’s a little strong for me right now, too. But it’s truly very, very nice for what it is.
I seem to have an incense theme this week. It’s not my favorite family of fragrances. That’s roses. But there are certainly some really fine incense perfumes and colognes out there.
Incense is perfect for the weird weather we are having lately, though.
Good point, Jalapeno.
Also, I meant to say that I liked the wisteria picture. I’m bummed out that I won’t be able to see the wisteria and peonies at Longwood Gardens, but there’s some wisteria blooming around the area in general. From the road, it can be hard to tell which wisteria plants were planted deliberately, and which ones have struck out on their own. There’s wisteria blooming by the cemetery where artist Horace Pippin is buried. I don’t know if those vines escaped from a garden or were originally part of the landscaping, but it’s pretty there.
I’m wearing the tiniest spritz of Kenzo Amour Le Parfum (the gold bottle). I like the original, but this flanker is better. Richer, deeper, much more sillage and longevity.
Ooh, I love the original Amour, never smelled the parfum, it must be wonderful!
cazaubon, it really is. It’s like Amour’s super-cool, low-throated, mysterious, I-travel-to-exotic-locales by myself favorite aunt.
I just put on
From a sample.
I dont know what it is, but it makes me a little queasy ?
People call this is a subtle, expensive, ‘not too sweet’ and romantic scent…(see fragrantica)
Wahhaha are they kidding? Its a huge generic vanilla bomb on my skin. I smell like I fell into a vat of cheap sugar coated ice cream, and I can hardly smell lavender (or anything else for that matter). ?
I bet its chemistry, my skin sometimes does weird stuff to vanilla based scents.
But Im not going to scrub it off…lets see how this develops and if I can get anything romantic from it in the drydown ?
I have a to finish something today for work. will check in later!
I did exactly the same thing yesterday, Jiji, and had exactly the same reaction. Except I DID scrub it off. Yuck. Couldn’t agree more with your assessment. Did it get any better with more time?
After one hour it gets more quiet. Phew.
I think its more weareable now. But so far….nothing magical ? i still have a hard time smelling anything other than vanilla and cinnamon ?
I asked my husband, he said it smells like soap (i bet its the lavender) with butterscotch ?
His verdict: its not bad but would not buy it.
Thanks! Money saved, as they say.
Too sweet scents make me queasy too.
A good vanilla bomb can be enjoyable for me every now and then. But in Mon Guerlain I most definetly miss the kick from the lavender to keep my interest. And I adore lavender.
I had the exact same reaction to Mon Guerlain. I smelled like a too rich, too sweet vanilla ice cream and nothing else. Made me queazy too.
It was a big no for me as well.
You lot are all bonkers, Mon Guerlain is wonderful
Seriously, I adore the stuff, but then my tolerance to sweet is very high in perfume. I don’t own a bottle of Mon Guerlain (yet), but I do have a bottle of Mon Exclusif, which is similar.
I must admit, After 3 hours i start to warm.up to it. But i don’t think i need to relive that opening.
Sometimes I wish i was able to tolerate sweetness more. i feel like i am missing out on a whole genre….
Well, I struggle with wood puddings myself. I can just about manage Bois des Iles, but a lot of Serges are out. Certain woody notes just make me queasy, although the winner in that department is Teint de Neige. Even the thought of it makes me feel unwell
Teint de Neige was a big NO. I think this perfume has quote a following because they developed it into a range of scented products
But its one of the few scents that i cannot tolerate at all. ?
And I understand your feelings toward some Serges. I had the same (for example chypre rouge, santal majuscule….they dont work for me at all.)
I will wear it tomorrow for you. I have a mini of the EDP.
I often want to try perfumes on other people.
Sometimes stuff that doesnt work for me smells nice on someone else.
And when you smell stuff a few meter awa, the experience can be different as well.
It was sugary vanilla marshmallow on me. I hated it and scrubbed it off
I got a caramel note from Mon Guerlain, and that’s a note that I don’t like. It wasn’t a scrubber, but too sweet for me to want to wear again.
I got expensive honey-lavender-vanilla ice cream from Mon Guerlain EdP… the kind of ice cream hand cranked by artisans in very small batches. It is sweet-ish on me, but not a sugar bomb. ??
I had lavender vanilla ice cream on a holiday once.. (it was in the Provence…. Of course ?. In a very touristy town). It was pretty good.
I did not pick up much lavender in Mon Guerlain ?
My husband did though.
Ahhh, you smell wonderful Robin! I nearly copied you, but then the bottle of Jour d’Hermes caught my eye.
We both smelled wonderful today! (I am terribly late getting back here and my Azemour is long gone)
I read your “happy almost Friday” and did a double-take. What?! When will I get out of the fog…?!
SOTD: Encre Noire
And now it’s already 11 am! Geez.
You smell great!
The fog is protective, stay in the fog
Bronze Goddess today. I’m not feeling bronzy or goddessy today, but there’s always hope!
At least you smell like a summer holiday
Indeed I do! ?
Contemplating a blind buy and am certainly not feeling bronze nor goddessy at all?
Could you tell me the difference between the eau Fraiche and the BG?
Not that I should be buying…
You know, I have no clue. Someone more perfume learned than me might be able to answer that. I bought a bottle several years ago and ended up swapping it, but I do remember the label said “Bronze Goddess” Eau Fraiche. The one I have now (yes, I missed it and bought another bottle recently) is a new bottle this year, perfume and label say the same thing. Are you in the US? I’m happy to send you some of you like.
That is so kind of you, I really appreciate it. I do live in the US.
And I have given away more bottles only to repurchase them later myself, too. I’m in good company!
Just zip me you deets to taiga101 in the yahoos and I’ll send you off a decant. Cheers!
Leather week continues with Demeter Russian Leather plus Robert Piguet Bandit (both EDT and EDP, different arms).
The Fragrantica reviews for Bandit are some of the most dramatic, hilarious stuff I’ve read in a while. Apparently I turned into a violent, vulgar, criminal, leather-wearing, 12-pack a day prostitute when I spritzed myself this morning. Either that, or I’m someone’s stale grandpa. One began: “ A bloodthirsty galbanum wearing a Friday the 13th leather goaltender mask…”
Finished yesterday with sampling SIP Black Rosette and FM Rose & Cuir. I like Black Rosette, it’s odd and possibly off-putting for some (one review called it a “punk rose”, and I agree). Once again I ask myself: why do I buy samples of ridiculously priced scents? $200 for 50ml ($70 for 15) is not going to happen.
Black Rosette’s punk vibe made me think of Rose & Cuir, which doesn’t feel punk but I had wanted it to, when it came out, based on the name and hype. It’s nice enough, but back in the giveaway pile it goes. All fresh geranium and not very interesting to my nose.
MONDAY: Chanel Cuir de Russie, Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours, Memo Moroccan Leather
TUESDAY: Knize Ten, J.F. Schwarzlose Berlin Leder 6, Molinard Cuir, ELDO Tom of Finland, Beaufort London Iron Duke
WEDNESDAY: Bottega Veneta Bottega Veneta, Bottega Veneta Eau de Velours, Strange Invisible Perfumes Black Rosette, Frederick Malle Rose & Cuir
Yup those fragrantica reviews haha….I love Bandit….but most of those reviews are just silly. ??
Your leather week is impressive! Have you settled on a favorite yet? Or are you like me, unable to choose just one? I do love Knife Ten and have been waffling over a FB for years. I don’t know what’s stopping me, unless it’s the rest of my perfume collection quietly whispering that I’ll never use up what I already own.
Sorry – KniZe Ten. Stupid autocorrect.
It shall be known as Knife Ten from now on!
LOL! I will say that there’s a “Golden Edition” of Knize Ten that I didn’t care for at all … in case anyone is wondering.
My favorites thus far in the leather realm: Chanel Cuir de Russie, Cuir de Lancôme, Dzing!, Bandit EDP, Field Notes From Paris, BV Bottega Veneta, Molinard Cuir.
That’s a pretty long list so maybe you’re right and there’s no favorite!
I’ve also always had the “I need a bottle of Knize Ten” thought in the back of my head, but it didn’t knock my socks off this week. I have a couple samples to drain first, then we’ll see.
Interesting! Field Notes does not read like a leather on my skin. I get more of the sweet tobacco and orange blossom vibe. Evening Edged in Gold is more leather….smooth suede kind. And I LOVE Bottega Venetta and a few of the flankers I tried.
Well I should clarify: been a while since I’ve worn Field Notes and I pulled it for this week because of the listed leather note… not sure how much leather I get out of it either, but retrying it during this week of leather focus and I think I’ll do better at picking out out!
Like CM8, I didn’t get leather from Field Notes either – I mostly got cigarettes and bubble gum ground into asphalt. Not that that’s necessarily bad! And I think I still have some Evening Edged in Gold – I don’t remember getting a lot of leather from it, but should try it again, I guess.
I didn’t realize there was leather in that one, been a while since I sampled it, but now it’s added to the pile for the week. I really like Ineke. I have probably 5 bottles of hers, but not that one. Yet. This addiction is a dangerous thing.
Testing. Testing. Perfume samples that is! I normally will wear just about the entire sample thinking that if I like this at foghorn strength, I like it and Thunk! I ordered a sample of St. Clair Scents Gardeners Glove. My conclusions are that I do not really like leather fragrances very much(except for Papillon Anubis) there was a note that just not smell good on my skin. Almost that nuclear, raspy cedar smell I associate with a certain group of large molecules. Thunk! And money saved.
We are opposites, I almost always wear the tiniest little dab on the back of my hand just in case
Happy Blursday the Umpteenth:)
I was able to get milk n eggs delivered yesterday, yay on that.
Random sample sotd is…Tauer Les Annees 25, which smells like a lemony vanilla.. not bad I guess. Maybe even pleasant. I haven’t worn a Tauer in years. I simply hated Tauer scents when I first sampled some years ago, I believe I gave all of them away. But I am open minded to revisit a line. A cozy citrus, kinda like it. A bit musky though.
Is it the limited edition one or the BIS one? I keep flirting with the BIS version because I didn’t snag a bottle of the limited edition one.
Not sure, what’s BIS?
The original Les Annees 25 was the limited edition but the Les Annees 25 BIS is a slightly revamped version. They smell almost identical but the BIS is a little smoother.
I have no idea, the sample I have doesn’t specify. I got the sample via swap or share. This smells pretty smooth to me, however.
Bis used in music as a direction to repeat. In French addresses it means a second house or shop with the same number as another on that street. However, Andy says it’s not just a repeat of the original LE, but better.
Basenotes commenters are divided in their preferences.
Blursday the Umpteenth— yes!! ?
Love your choice for today Robin! Azemour was one of the earliest niche perfumes to join my collection and I love it to this day. I have the older bottle design.
My SotD is Chanel Boy, I guess a family for this one would be gender-bender, as it smells awesome on both women and men.
Thank you Lucasai!
I woke up craving Zoologist Moth so that’s my sotd. My sample of Sloth arrived this week and so far I like it, but it seems to have some of whatever the note is in ubiquitous modern department store perfumes that bugs me. Needs more wear time.
And I forgot all about the swap meet! I’ll have to do some inventory soon.
Wearing a small dab of Lonestar Memories. Since I can’t support Andy through his website, Luckyscent it is. It’s either Lonestar Memories, Les Annees BIS or Au Couer du Desert for my next full bottle purchase.
I love this fragrance. It was my first purchase from an independent perfumer.
I am wishing that I could order directly from Andy Tauer’s website instead of Luckyscent. Now if I can keep my youngest dog from whining because my dad is at his fun job today and she isn’t happy, she is mad that he’s not home. My dad is her favorite person.
I’m in SJP Lovely for musk day 4. This one could also count as a Cheap Thrills or Favorite Celebrity scent.
Today is my Friday and I’m glad because the last couple of days I’ve been running my butt off!?♀️
Look behind you and you’ll find it, my dad always used to say.?
I have never heard that one! (Look behind you…)
Rose-scented body lotion topped with Idylle Love Blossom. Floral family. Green florals were my first love. I strayed fir awhile, but have renewed that relationship.
Wish me luck. I’m going to try baking a raspberry cake. (I may add some strawberries.) Not that I need it. Trying to get serious again with my meal tracking and sugar reduction. I missed my waistline, which disappeared and then came back while on WW. I don’t want to lose it again. But I’d rather have a small home-baked treat than candy or other sweets.
I’m with you on the home-baked treats, that way you know what’s in it and can control the amount of sugar. Good luck with the cake!
My sister has taking up cake-baking during this time and shas found reducing the called-for sugar by 30% has had little impact on taste/texture. Myself, I haven’t baked anything since junior high home-ec so can’t verify
I find store bought cakes are typically way too sweet. I want less sweet but more flavors and creative flavors.
Alas, baking for a house of two usually means too much cake, even if I use 6” pans, baking less than that hardly seems worth the effort.
Conclusion: no cake, but a really pricy piece of great chocolate!
I may try that with the next attempt. This should freeze well also.
Sending you the luck of the baking gods, who are apparently quarantining chez moi!
Home baked is so nice and often you can learn to cut down recipes to make 4 cupcakes instead of a full cake, etc so the amount of treats you keep around stays reasonable!
I made Hawaiian butter mochi yesterday for the first time and realized directly afterwards that ⅓ of the recipe size is the appropriate size for our household ?
I love butter mochi. I can eat an entire pan by myself.
Yes indeed! My husband’s feedback on them was “Now see… That’s even better than I had imagined. Doomed. It’s all over now.” ?
I am pleased. https://www.instagram.com/p/CALn7RcpEwB/?igshid=grizwqtxj0n
It looks great!
Holy guacamole! I will bring the whipped cream!
Without intention, I seem to be stuck in the amber groove–so that is the fragrance family of the week! Today–SSS’s Sienna Musk.
For those of you needing cheerful news, please check out the video in this article. Goats are used all over California to cut back on the fire hazard of our drought-fraught dry grasses. I love seeing them dotting the hills.
I love seeing the goats. Used to see them by the freeway tunnel in the Bay Area a lot. Goats are the best.
That video is great, but I’m sure the neighborhood was less than thrilled by all the goat droppings you can see behind the flock. I’ve helped herd goats and sheep into parks for vegetation management, and it’s astonishing how much, er, spoor, they leave in their wake!
Definitely. It doesn’t much matter in the foothills of Tilden Park, but no one wants that in their daisy patch. I showed the video to my son, who said it reminded him of my husband squawking at the deer out back!
What gorgeous photos you’ve been posting this week, Robin!
I’m in Iris Prima today, which works nicely with the dreary weather we’ve been having this week. Yesterday was so gloomy we didn’t even have Pergola Drinkies (this has become a daily staple in our household, the semi-strict division between the workday and personal evening time).
I know I am lucky to still have my job, but I’ve got a rant. I am DROWNING in meetings and getting really angry about it. I had 7.5 h of meetings scheduled for yesterday (though I got so angry in the evening that I just didn’t attend the last 2.5 h of meetings, consequences be damned). Last night at 10:36pm, a meeting was called for this morning at 8am. I didn’t see the meeting request until this morning at 7:30am, and I had work to do for my 9am meeting, so I made the executive decision to not attend. Something has to change. This is unsustainable.
Whoa that’s a lotta meetings! My team is erring in the opposite direction; we’re not communicating enough and no one knows what anyone else is doing!
Oof. This is a difficult line for us all to straddle, I guess. I just feel like 50+% of my meetings could be emails Good luck with that! (PS, you smell fantastic!)
Ha! Responded to your original comment before I read this follow up. EXACTLY this. Are some people uncomfortable with writing? Or they want to hide behind some group consensus formed during a meeting? I seriously don’t get it.
Meetings are appropriate for some activities and goals, but not all communication.
I know, right??? Thank you for validating my point of view!!!
I think it’s time to bring this up with your boss, what a serious waste of time!
I know, right?? This is why everyone at my company has to work billions of hours a week; we spend a full workday on stupid meetings and then we still have all our actual work left to do.
I did actually bring it up in a 1:1 on Monday (probably my second 1:1 in 2020?) and was promised that things would change, but it hasn’t changed yet….
I don’t understand why the number of meetings would need to increase, unless there nature of the work really changed? Goofy.
For me, it’s not very different pre- versus post-COVID, but perhaps because I’ve always felt the need to push back against unnecessary meetings. Some people want to call a meeting of 4-6 people for something that’s a 2 sentence question that needs to be answered by one person. Drives me nuts.
7.5 hours is crazy.
7.5.h of meetings ???
No one can ever be productive that way. (Unless the rest of the week is meeting-free)
Brin de Reglisse! What shall we call this family, antiflorals?
True! A fun exercise might be to think of something NOT by JCE that feels like one of his… maybe I’ll try to think of something for tomorrow.
Some of the early Olivia Giacobettis are similar to early Jean Claude Ellenas.
Passage d’Enfer, for instance…
Continuing my rosy week in Hiram Green Lustre (after a shot of Rose Barbare early this a.m.)
Just saw your comment yesterday about Twisted Lily. What is Eden perfumes? Do you know? A quicky check on google brought up an all natural perfumery in the UK that makes dupes of popular fragrances such as Aventis and Daisy and “Shelimers.”
Sorry, it’s Eden Square perfumes, http://www.edensquare.com.
Ooooohh. Okay, so on their website it says that they were previously know as EUROPERFUMES. That is the company that billed me for my recent purchase on Twisted Lily. Interesting. Thanks!
Still doing BWF’s, or perhaps WF’s. Today’s choice is Passion by Goutal. It’s really, really beautiful and I think I had not worn in over a year.
Tea is Thé des impressionnistes by MF.
I still haven’t made up my mind about this weeks CP!
I just cannot pick a favourite fragrance family.
I don’t know if mine is BWF’s actually, but I do own loads of them. I think florals in general make up the largest part of my collection. So I kind of chose the white ones because I was dying to wear my La Haie on Monday.
Day 4 of Perfumes I Should Like But Don’t: BV Knot. I lasted 10 minutes and then scrubbed it off. It’s awful on me. I’m drowning the remnants in Salome.
PSA: 40% off makeup and fragrance (not Armani Prive, sadly) with code TIMELESS at http://www.giorgioarmanibeauty-usa.com
I just tried to get the Acqua di Gioia Sun, and it’s sold out. Money saved!
enabler..going to check it out..
Continuing my “Easy Like a Sunday Morning” week, I am wearing Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt.
Robin, you smell terrific !
Thank you, and love your theme!
Giverny in Bloom by DSH, which would be in the category of Spring Florals which are my favorite and why I made it up.
It’s a beautiful day here, and I just discovered one of my favorite foods is at the grocery store: cherries!
She makes so many you could do “favorite DSH spring florals” !
“Spring florals” is one of the categories in my personal perfume filing system, and that part of the shelf is jam-packed. Clearly I love them too!
Robin, you smell great! I’m waiting for warmer weather to break out my Azemour, but it’s a summer standard. Today is mild and grey and green, barely sprinkling now and then, with loads of gentle humidity and birdsong in the air and the roses hanging heavy with last night’s raindrops. I’m in Wet Garden and I fit right in.
We had a lovely morning. Clouded up by afternoon, and “spritzing” out there now, but we’re expecting 80s tomorrow…YAY, might wear Azemour again
Hello all. My SOTD is SL Vitriol d’oeillet, continuing my theme/family of SL perfumes that are NOT super sweet and stewed fruit-y. I love this one a lot with the very spicy carnation smell. Lots of nutmeg and clove, but no fruit. I’ve always loved dianthus flowers in general–including also pinks and Sweet Williams (one of my favourites). I feel kind of dramatic but pretty in this. I’m watching an intrepid bluejay who first checked out the sleeping cats on my porch and decided it was safe to fly to the feeder (which hangs in the air above them). Very muggy and warm day and I may not get in my usual walk because of the weather. I met up with a new walking partner yesterday at 7 and we had a very long walk (it turned into four miles!). That was pleasant just walking and talking, but we wore masks and I found that made the exercising quite difficult. So I might in the end prefer walking alone. We’ll see.
Glad you got a chance to get your vitamin D this morning
Day 4 of chypre florals. I’m running low on options and saving my favorite for tomorrow. Turns out alot of what I thought I had in this category falls into other families. Shows what I know!
Sotd is Gucci by Gucci, square brown bottle. I had thought this was a fruity chypre, but wrong again, lol.
Whoever hijacked my sun, I hope you are enjoying it!?
If it isn’t a chypre, what is it like?
It’s under the chypre floral family, but it smells more fruity to me. I don’t get any florals at all.
And, thanks for the ?
Oh but I don’t always agree with Fragrantica for e.g. I get a bit confused with all the Guccis by Gucci and if you smell fruit on a chypre base, then It’s a fruity chypre. Have you ever tried vintage, no cumin, Rochas Femme?
I rely a lot on Fragrantica! Too much, lots of blind buys. I’ve never tried that vintage, but am a vintage lover and hunter. Thanks for clarifying the fruity chypre for me.
You’re welcome Annie, and you have to try Vintage Rochas Femme. Go for the Parfum de Toilette concentration which remains intact and is all fruit, no cumin.
I had your sun for part of the day, thanks! Lots of grey clouds here now though.
I have enough sun to send you some. Be on the lookout for it.
When I was doing research on chypres, there are florals and fruity scents, but apparently a common denominator is the bottom notes of oakmoss, patch and labdanum.
I am on the lookout for that Gucci; you have a treasure there! Hope your ? reappears!
Cuddly scent family is continued with some big sprays of MKK. I finally got time to sew a bit, when I got home and home fully will finish my summer dress tomorrow.
Yay for you!
Robin, I love that link to the new wave summer colognes! I’ve yet to try the Mistral Patchouli, because reviews label it as a clean patchouli, now I am itching to try it.
Another summer citrus gem I’ll try to find later. Not a classic, but one I actually stopped someone to ask them what they were wearing and bought right away.
SOTD: Blind buy? Beguiled, I have the travel spray to try. I really hope I love it. I have a brand new, still in wrapping Beguiled big one. Of course, I just found this yesterday, from when it first came out. Please tell me I will love it.
Well you may smell it and put it in the patchouli box!
How was the Beguiled?
Absolutely! I got another email from Atelier with some offer(I’ll post it tomorrow) so my patchouli box is growing!
Beguiled was worth the risk! Probably the only Roja that I feel I could wear comfortably around people. As casual as he can be,?. Naughty, but nice.
I took a nap between 5 and 6pm and feel better for it. I’m wearing Liz Earle Essence No 1, classified as a citrus aromatic but is to my nose a citrus chypre same as Eau de Rochas which is my favorite of the genre.
A citrus chypre. Hmmm. Sometimes the straight on chypres are too much for me, but these differences might be easier to wear.
Annie, also Eau de Guerlain might be in your easier to wear chypre category.
Aurora, I think I might have a bottle. I’m still unpacking and finding lots of perfumes. I know I bought a huge Guerlain at a vintage shop, but I don’t remember if I gave it away. I’m checking tonight!
Thanks for your thoughtful comments today.
Eau de Rochas is one of my favorites as well.
Petunias, I wait every summer in anticipation of wearing it.
Sorry for the s autocorrect again
Naps are wonderful ?.
?I felt like this before the nap, and am now totally restaured.
SotD SMN Colonia Russa in “between genders” week. Another soapy/musky but curiously floral one, with lots of citrus in the top.
I had a giant piece of butter Mochi cake for my bday breakfast, and now am just waiting til after dinner to decide if it’s more of the same for dessert or if I’ll get into the cinnamon streusel coffee cake.
Happy Birthday teebear!
Happy birthday ?
Happy Birthday! The cake sounds delish!
Happy birthday! Nothing wrong with a well-rounded cake diet!
Happy Birthday ?
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your day
Happy Scented Birthday teebear! ?✨??
Thank you everyone for the love!!! I got inspired to make a scented cocktail after dinner:
The Endless Spring Quarantini
•juice of ½ lime
• 1Tbsp honey
• 1 tsp orange blossom water
• 1oz sake
• 1oz gin (I used an elderflower, seaweed and bee pollen one made in Edinburgh last summer) • ½ tsp nutritional pollen
Put all ingredients in your neglected travel coffee mug and shake vigorously. Pour into any cocktail glass you have. Enjoy!
Ooh, orange blossom, honey and sake sound like a nice and fragrant combo:). Not too much into gin, nonetheless, the overall combo still sounds good.
Happy Birthday from the West Coast!
Happy Birthday teebear!
Happy birthday! So glad you got the breakfast of champions to start the day , and sounds like you are ending it with a fantastic cocktail
I think my favourite fragrance family would be best described as Goldilocks – perfumes that are just right for me! There are are a few notes that I don’t like, but other than that I like all sorts of things
I’ve got floral, incense, chypre, spicy, fruity – even the notes I generally don’t like are sometimes fine.
Today, I’m going to try some Givenchy miniatures passed on by a friend. Her late mother bought a travel set years ago. I don’t know how old it is, nor how well the perfumes have lasted, but the bottles are delightful.
I didn’t put on perfume in the morning as I usually do because my allergies are amped up. I just put on some vintage Jolie Madame as Nancy L. mentioned vintage Sortilege yesterday. JM is so perfect for spring.
Sorry to hear that your allergies are acting up Petunia.
Hope the allergies don’t get too bad.
Oh the vintage must JM be so good! Smelling fabulous!
I hope your allergies calm down sooner than later.
Oh nose about the allergies,
I am in Miller Harris Couer d’Ete which is in what I consider the spring floral family (worn in spring and usually contain lilac or hyacinth or other spring flowers)
That’s a nice one. Sadly, my bottle turned & had to be given the heave-ho.
spring florals sound beautiful
Gorgeous picture today Robin.
Today has been a day loaded with suck. I found out that my brother was laid off at the end of his shift this morning. It wasn’t entirely unexpected; his industry has been hit extremely hard lately. He’s taking it rather well, all things considered. ?
SOTD = Mon Guerlain EdT. I’m thinking that maybe my theme this week is comfort scents, or calming scents.
I’m so sorry about your brother’s job. I hope he can get unemployment insurance money and another job soon.
Thanks cazaubon. He said something about filing on Monday.
Really sorry, and wishing him luck in getting unemployment without undue hassle.
I am going to join you tomorrow in the EDP. I find it lovely and comforting too.
My original family was going to be sugared almond note ( Brit Parfum) but my daughter stole it and then my St Clair Scents came in…so that was that ?
I might have to break out something super calming for tomorrow! But it’s going to be toasty here… 86 degrees F!
Way too hot for NJ in May! Hopefully it’s low humidity. I want proper fall back!
Total suck over here too, although I still have a job, for now. Sorry your brother lost his! Is there hope that he can find something in his field with another company? And don’t they have to give some notice before laying an employee off?!
“Comfort scents” are my everyday theme, so we’re theme twins?
Given how badly my brother’s industry is doing, I’m not sure if he can find a job. Half the people he worked with were also axed. And given that this is COVID related, it very well could have been the soonest that said company could have notified. Right now, it’s a coin toss if some of those organizations will survive.
Notice is not mandated at the federal level except when it meets certain criteria (# of employees over what timeframe and whether or not it’s a plant closure, etc.). States also have different rules. This is why it’s usually full employment for lawyers ?
Ah, I see… ?
Geez! Sorry about this
So sorry to hear of your brother’s job. Hope he’s able to find something else soon.
Thanks KellyC. My brother joked that he hadn’t taken a vacation in 10 years, and now he had no choice about time off.
I’m so sorry, Jalapeno.
Thank you Holly.
Very sorry for your brother’s job loss.
Thanks lillyjo. He just started working with this employer a couple of weeks ago, figuring that they were doing better than the company he left.
Sorry about your brother’s job loss, everything is so unsettling right now. Comfort scents are a big theme lately for me lately too.
Thank you Gail. I have a few oddball scents that I normally enjoy, but I’m not sure I can shake things up like that now.
So sorry jalapeno. I hope your brother has something to fall back on in addition to unemployment.
Thanks hajusuuri. He has a couple more paychecks coming from his employer. He did a lot of smart things recently, like paying off/down his credit cards.
Ugh. So sorry for him. I hope he can get unemployment and a new job soon.
I’m wearing Lush What would love do from the solid perfume floating around in my bag. I diluted it with some hand sanitizer alcohol spray (lavender and eucalyptus scented). Nice! Cut the sweetness down a notch.
I’m hoping tomorrow is my last day of the dreadful subway commuting. We should be set up to work from home on Monday, I pray (until the next surge hits and we’re yanked back out again?).
Crossing fingers for you!
Are you still having to do bedside nursing! Or are you back in your department office? I can’t even imagine your commute. I’m so sorry and hope you get to WAH ASAP.
We had a PUI on our unit (a “clean” post cardiac sx unit!) and there was ZERO N95’s, zero signage on the door other than contact/droplet precautions. The nurse who had the patient was going in and out with a cheap surgical mask, and when I asked her about it, her response was “I already had it!” Although never tested, she’s convinced she has had it, and I guess the rest of can be dammed for all she cares! One of the many things I talked to my recruiter about, and apparently she’s ( my recruiter) not happy with me because she unfollowed me on Instagram ??
How sophomoric of your recruiter! And how does the covidiot nurse know she won’t get it again?
I asked the covidiot the exact same thing! We went around until she didn’t have an answer for me, then she walked away in a huff. ??♀️
And the recruiter thing is funny. People never cease to amaze me, especially during stressful times. We are at an impasse because I refuse to be on call for the entire hospital, which she asserts I am, although it is not in my contract. ??♀️
I’m winning friends and influencing people all over the place! ?
Still in my office hopefully for only 1 more day.
I have to say that our facility acts the same as that nurse on the presumed negative patient unit. A nurse aid died last week on a unit on such a unit that had a covid breakout. They closed the unit and furloughed the staff. Now they’re offering testing to asymptomatic staff, but STILL not mandating wearing N95s and most people don’t even though they are offering them to staff! All you can do is just protect yourself, with your own supplies if need be. Crazy.
Hang in there Elisa P!
Hope the commuting woes are over for you soon!
Fingers crossed! Legs too!
No more surges so you can work from home!
Talc de Iunx, from a sample.
It’s hard to describe this fragrance. Had I smelled it without knowing the name, I believe I would have called to mind not talcum powder but rather an elegant oval of the most luxurious unscented soap.
It has a softness that reminds me of cotton velvet. It is warm rather than cool, so that it blends with the skin.
It’s a very subtle, refined, and appealing scent.
Yes, but it’s a bit lighter than one usually thinks of as cozy.
Here is Mark Behnke’s review:
Fragrance Family – Iris
SOTD = Frédéric Malle Iris Poudre
and might as well share the next pic which I had to do to get out of the 666 post count.
Now off to prep for dinner!
What’s for dinner?
Asparagus! + chicken sausage, sautéed ginger and mushrooms and gemelli pasta!
You were smelling SO elegant today.
Thank you…even if I do not feel elegant!
Lol, I do the same thing at the grocery store. I will grab anything to change my total from that number.
Notice- I won’t even type the number ?
I knew I was getting close so checked and ?
Well, as mentioned before, I can hardly pick a favorite fragrance family, so I’m going to finish out the week in ONE of my favorite families.
I have a serious love for anything beachy or tropical and today I’m in Fire Island which is one of my favorites. It really lasts for a beach scent to, I can still smell it this evening after spraying this morning.
You’re in the perfect location for wearing beachy scents! ?
Smelling great Kelly C!
Lovely photo, and lovely- smelling in Azemour today!
Continuing tuberose bombs in Sotto la Luna Tuberose. I wish Tauer would do travel size, I would buy like 5 scents right out of the gate. Love him or hate him, he’s like no one else.
Aha, and you smell fantastic too!
