It's Friday at last. (And rest in peace, Burt Reynolds.) Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with cedar, if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I went with Comme des Garçons + Monocle Scent Three: Sugi. It's been on my buy list since it came out in 2013 — I'm still waiting for that coffret of all three Monocle fragrances in travel size.
Reminder: on 9/14, wear one of your "top 10 of fall" fragrances (unless it's spring where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of spring" scents).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
In CdG Kyoto.
Happy Friday everyone!
You smell serenely beautiful.
Thank you SheriG! The perfect perfume to stay calm and in peace. Exactly what I need today.
I hope you get out relatively early today!
I feel bad I had to say relatively, but I know you work such long hours. So I’m wishing you a normal work day! ????❤
You are right! I hope to be able to leave “on time” today. Wish me luck! ????????
Fingers and toes crossed!
Kyoto is also on my wishlist
I went to my wish list after I swapped my full bottle not long ago. One of those mistakes…. ????
I’ve done that too!
I’ve swapped away Kyoto twice! Twice!!!
That is very sad!!! What is wrong with us???
You smell devine M!Thank you for your email!I shall respond proper asap!
Hope you have a good Friday!
Thank you J! Hope your can get plenty of rest after your busy week. Enjoy your weekend!
Note twin in Incense Pure ♥️
Hi “note” twin! We smell terrific! ????
I hope that you are now headed home, or soon will be. CdG Kyoto was a sleeper scent for me…it kind of snuck up on me as a firm like.
On my way home now! So happy! Kyoto is such a relaxing scent. I might spray on some before going to bed tonight. I really need to get some comfort.
Yay!!! Have a peaceful night
Thank you! You too! ????
Excellent! You did get home at a reasonable hour! ????????
Woo hoo! Enjoy your weekend!
????Busy list ?!!!????
Shiseido Feminite du Bois EDP
Ahhh Bear, Finally! We’re twins!
Wearing Shiseido Feminite du Bois extrait.
Ha, thank you, fixed to buy list!
And then I fixed the spelling of Monocle. I guess I’d better go back to bed for another hour
It really feels like autumn today, so I can finally wear one of SL/Sheldrake cedars – Bois et Fruits. Yummy!
My current mood is a mixture of anixety, excitement and frustration.
On one hand, a British client made a bank transfer to me last Friday, and the money still has not reached my account. It’s in US dollars, and I’m in Ukraine, so the payment goes through at least one US intermediary bank. And Monday was a public holiday in the US, so maybe it’s just an ordinary delay. My bank says they received no payment, the client says they sent the payment to the correct bank details and advises to wait more… Sigh. It is frustrating that it takes so long and I am worried that the payment got lost somewhere between banks.
On the other hand, my new PC is about to arrive! Yay! My current one is about 6 or 7 years old and has become very slow, so I am very excited to get a new faster machine. I hope the whole setup and installation process goes smoothly.
The holiday really does mess things up, maybe give it another day.
Thanks, lillyjo. I hope it’s the holiday.
The payment is for work I did in July, it’s a new client, new currency for me, so maybe I am overreacting.
Hope the $ gets there soon!
Probably the holiday, but press them on the details if it takes much longer. The good news is wires generally are found…and the money arrives.
Yes, the payment should either bounce back or reach my bank.
I’ve just got a proof of payment from the client, so now I have something to show to my bank.
Iris Silver Mist for me today. Not an obvious pick forcedar day, but it does contribute to that very dry feel. So lovely but I’m practically hoarding my bell jar. I wear it perhaps once a year.
Have a great day everyone.
I have bell jars of SL’s Ambre Sultan and Borneo 1834 – I try to wear them as often as possible. My Borneo has evaporated a bit.
Wearing La Myrrhe from my 50th birthday bell jar.
Not participating in the CP, but I smell wonderful.
You do smell fabulous!
Lovely! I really want a bottle of Borneo but I’m too paranoid about reformulation to buy it blind.
Those are great picks! I know I should wear it more but some combination of emotions makes it very hard for me to justify wearing it. For some reason, I lavish in my vintage collection, but wearing ISM is very hard. Thank goodness it hasn’t evaporated!
Today’s SOTD is vintage Shiseido Feminite du Bois extrait, my favorite cedar perfume.
Early morning workout and a triple Cuban coffee.
Happy Friday all!
Triple cuban coffee, yum!
What distinguishes a Cuban coffee? Beans sourced from Cuba, or more things?
It’s the preparation. It’s espresso made with unrefined sugar, let me know if you want details, it’s super!
I’d love some details! I do love espresso
Cuban Coffee – I use a Moka pot by Bialetti:
Tips: use medium/low heat and be sure to watch it carefully. If the coffee is sputtering & hissing out out (vs. a slow gentle drizzle), the heat is too high and your coffee will be bitter.
*Choose your coffee beans (I like Lavazza).
*Fill a moka pot with coffee (do not tamp down the grounds, it prevents the steam going through the grounds) and place water in the bottom.
*Gently heat over medium-low flame. Watch the pot carefully!
*In an 8-oz glass cup, measure 2 teaspoons of brown sugar (use glass, not metal, metal reacts with the acidic coffee) and a tiny pinch of salt.
*When the coffee starts steaming thru the grounds, pour the first drops of coffee onto your sugar/salt mixture to make a thick paste.
*Whip the sugar, a tiny pinch of salt (counteracts the bitterness) and coffee together vigorously with a spoon until it lightens in color.
*When your coffee is done steaming, pour the rest of the coffee over your sugar mixture and stir. When done properly, your Cuban coffee will have a cream layer on top.
Wow! This is fabulous! Where were you when I bought a moka pot five years ago? I tried to use it a few times and got horrible, bitter, grimy coffee, so I threw it out when I moved. I may have to get a new one and try your advice. This sounds great.
Done well, the coffee has a smooth, creamy/nutty/caramel flavor to it.
Let me know how it goes! And I got my Moka pot for 2 bucks at Goodwill, maybe check there first?
The best coffee out there!☕️
Joining you with Feminite du bois, but mine is from a sample of Serge Lutens. The extrait must be amazing!
Your coffee sounds awesome; I love strong ‘Bear strength’ brew!
Second week of kindergarten almost done…alleluia!
And, for those unaware, VQ ’18 is still going on. Yesterday I wore Montale Vanille Absolu and Il Profumum Vanille Bourbon.
Today I am going to try out Philosophy Fresh Cream Warm Cashmere and some other vanilla TBD…will weigh in later.
That Montale sure is gorgeous, isn’t it?
I haven’t heard of the Philosophy Cream Warm Cashmere, did you find it at Ulta? That sounds like it should be a nice vanilla/musk combo!
It is…I also quite like Montale Sweet Vanilla.
I bought the Warm Cashmere from QVC in a completely impulsive purchase as part of a holiday set w/ shower gel, body cream and perfume….we shall see how it is. I think the set is available but I think Ulta may have it in stores too.
Popping in to say that Warm Cashmere is available at Ulta. I tried it there not long ago and it is perfectly cozy.
Thanks, I’ll head over tomorrow!
Enabler pin awarded! 8)
Oh yay! I’ll add it to my Perfume Scout vest
Sephora carries it too!!!
I very much like the Warm Cashmere. Easy to wear and snuggly, sweet, but the spices take that sweet edge off perfectly.
Yes, it is quite nice. I am wearing Montale Roses Vanille on my other arm. Also very nice and fairly cheap on discounter sites it appears. I guess I just want *all* the perfume. ????
She-ra, if you’re interested in vanille sauvage de la Madagascar, drop me a line at taiga101 in the land of yahooligans. Happy to send it your way. I have a small bottle that I bought based on a sample and I think I got all those vanillas mixed up and bought the wrong one. Cheers!
I was nearly twins with you, Robin, and will likely spritz a little Sugi this evening. For today I went with TF Violet Blonde.
I might wear VB for next week’s CP – it’s a favorite for fall. Hopefully we’ll have some cooler weather by then! It’s still crazy hot in Virginia.
I was thinking the same thing – it’s definitely perfect for fall. Our weather has cooled a bit – hope yours does too.
I planned to wear Cartier Déclaration but then was afraid the cedar and cumin notes might be too skanky for my coworkers, so instead I went with Trayee, which also has some cedar. Maybe I’ll wear Déclaration tonight- I really love it.
The 1st time I smelled Declaration was on a female coworker of mine and I loved it! I don’t think the sweaty notes project far really because I didn’t detect that aspect on her. I only noticed it when I sampled it on myself and smelled it up close-I was always hesitant to wear it for that reason, too.
I gave my bottle to a friend as I had issues with the sweaty notes. A few weeks later he told me he had worn it a few times and noticed the sweat too. Sad. It is a nice fragrance. I had the same issue with Bottega Venetta.
Well, I love the “sweaty notes” on myself as well as my husband, but I do tend to wear this one at home so as not to offend others.
Also I’m a big fan of skanky perfumes in general.
I’m glad you are enjoying!! I hope you were not offended. I liked it before I put it on, I just not agree with my chemistry.
Not at all offended, we all have different tastes in perfume as in everything else!
I almost went with Trayee, you smell wonderful
Thanks, I’m really enjoying the Trayee although it was my second choice.
I don’t think I’ve ever gotten the cedar in Trayee! I looooove Trayee.
Day off today, with so much to do. Sotd is SL Cedre. It’s cool enough out to wear this, plus I dug out my official day off thermal shirt for the season. Rest in peace Burt Reynolds. I was just watching him and Don Rickles on Johnny Carson last week. Very entertaining. Hope everyone has a great day ????????
Enjoy your day off. It finally cooled down here, but not enough for thermals yet. At least a nice break for now… ????
Thanks. I’m probably overreacting with the thermal, but better safe than sorry ????????
Probably not, I turned my seat heater on while driving into work this morning.????
It’s 65 right now and pretty much freezing.
Burt Reynolds was hilarious and great about laughing at himself. He had a TV show called Evening Shade, I think in the 80s, that was funny.
Joining you in Cèdre. Happy Friday!
Hurray for your day off!
Byredo Super Cedar. I was tempted to wear Au Couer du Desert by Tauer but felt Super Cedar better fit the theme. ????
I forgot I have that one as well!
Twin! We smell great.
Wearing Chene. Happy Friday, everyone! I will spend it getting my teeth cleaned at the dentist, and then calling loads of service people for home repairs. After we returned from vacation we found that a critter (probably a raccoon) tried to claw its way into our attic and made a nice hole in our roof. And we had multiple heavy storms while we were gone, so we returned to a lovely mess. Lots of drywall is going to have to come down. Thank god for insurance.
Ugh, that’s terrible! Incidents like that make me miss living in an apartment with a super.
That’s too bad. I hope it is resolved quickly!
You smell great! Good luck with your teeth and repairs!
Yikes! Critters can do an amazing amount of damage to a house. One of my neighbors had squirrels get in his attic. Best of luck dealing with all that.
Happy Friday! I went with Hermes Un Jardin en Med…. [don’t know how to spell the rest of that]. Smells good though!
lol. You smell great! I love that one.
LOL! French spelling!
Trying out the natural and vegan perfumer Abel in Green Cedar. It tuned out to be a great choice once I got past my fear of smelling like a forest. Preconceived notions I guess.
Watching a few NYC Fashion week shows. Jeremy Scott…Amazing.
I have a fear of smelling like a forest too. Any recommendations for a forest beginner?
I really like Byredo Super Cedar and Heretic Blood Cedar. I think I like Blood Cedar just a bit more. ????
+1 on Blood Cedar.
I like this one best from the Abel line. It reminds me in some ways of LDDM
I went with Io by Chris Rusak. I just got my sample set in the mail a couple days ago, and I’m pretty sure there’s some cedar in here, but I probably would’ve wanted to wear it regardless. It’s a very resinous and earthy scent, which I like a lot.
Antennas perk up. Sounds really nice!
Chris Rusak that comments here?Nice!Maybe he can give some insights on his scent!✌????????
Yep, I think I found his website from one of his comments, actually.
I have looked at his site and he has some really interesting stuff…if I werent on a no buy I might have bought a sampler pack or two…like sweetgrass I found him by clicking on his name whenever he comments on NST. I enjoyed reading about his creative process and just like the look and feel of his site.
I like it a lot. It’s mostly labdanum to me (it tends to dominate on my skin when it’s present), but there is also a note that reads to my nose like fresh dirt, and I enjoy that.
I liked all 3 scents in the set, but this one, Io, and another one called QUA were my favorites. QUA reminded me a lot of a vintage Bal a Versaille sample I had a while back.
SL Bois De Violette. Hamster cage and violets.
You smell fabulous! Love BdV.
Hello scent twin!
Wow, I think 2X twins this week!
I’m pretty sure I’ve never had a “double shot” scent twin before!
Good morning! For the CP I picked Ocean Rain, or as I like to call it “Diorella Pine.” I both love it and feel unsettled by it, which makes me think it’s Art. I wonder if a CP someday could be to wear a perfume that calls up a certain emotion for you, and tell us about it.
I like that idea. Hope it hasn’t been used before. ????
Yesterday I did the project a day early in Gallivant London. It starts barnyard rose-leather and veers off into mostly cedar. I like it, but the phases feel disjointed. I topped up the drydown with Papillon Tobacco Rose.
The Gallivant fragrances all seem just a tad off. ????
I like Istanbul and Brooklyn the best from this line, especially the dry downs
In Jo Malone Incense and Cedar – one of the few I like from this house.
Oh that is a VERY lovely one indeed.
SOTD Prada infusion d’ Iris thanks to a generous NST friend. I’m swooning in its loveliness and so happy it’s Friday. It’s been a long week!
I’m in Bvlgari Omnia, le Original. Probably not in synch wirh the CP, but there it is.
Leaving work this morning, I walked to my van while watching dozens of hot air balloons lift into the sky. A beautiful sight first thing in the morning, which I found rejuvenating after two nights of utter nonsense. It was a beautifully clear morning and they rose against the backdrop of a rising sun shining on the sage covered hills. There are worse things in life.
The Van Man is supposed to be here today, so we’re meeting up at some point to discuss layout, pickup tongue-in-groove for the ceiling and walls, sheeps wool batting for insulation, a vary expensive AGM battery, and some other odds and ends to get the party started. Excited but also dreading the hard work we will be doing on top of my working nights and being all jacked up, circadian rhythm. Keeping my eyes on the prize of next summer in Alaska!
Wow, that sounds Amazing!
It really was beautiful!
You smell great!
Keep that goal in mind though. Keeping that goal will get you through the hard work!
Sheep’s wool versus recycled denim?
Denim attracts moisture, and then you get mold problems… sheeps wool is naturally resistant to moisture and mold, and if it does get wet, still maintains its insulation properties. Also, no chemicals to off gas, which can be a problem in such a small space.
Ah ha! Thank you for this breakdown! I am helping a friend do a tiny house, and we were just talking about types of insulation.
How fun! There may be better insulation options for static homes, but with a van that is constantly undergoing minor earthquakes, conventional insulation is not the best. Fiberglass especially, because particles become airborne. This is the company we are going with because it’s local and has a great reputation. https://woolinsulation.com
The hot air balloon ride I took at dawn one year over the Napa Valley is my favorite memory of a trip through the California wine country – even more so than the wine. It was a one-with-the-universe experience!
Sounds amazing! I have met a fellow traveler, and a hot air balloon ride is on her bucket list…!
That does sound like a beautiful sight. And ugh to working nights, but it’s the better shift, work-wise imho. Good luck with the van reno!
It is not a bad shift at all, and I like that I don’t have to deal with management at all, but my old body just can’t seem to get into it. ????
Bon courage! Just think of how great it will be when it’s done.
Thank you! ✌????
That is so awesome, seeing a balloon launch! I’ve seen only single hot air balloons doing that, so lucky you. Also, I can personally vouch for the insulating properties of wool when it is wet… I’ve been in a couple of situations where my socks couldn’t be changed immediately afterwards.
I don’t really have any cedar-forward scents anymore, so I went with CdG Oarzazate which is plenty woody to me, and an added spritz of Cire Trudon Mortel which has some cedar in its listed notes. I also have a smidge of Blackbird Targa on the back of my hand just to test out since I love their Targa incense. It smells similar to SSS Fireside Intense to me. Nice! Saving it for Fall.
Happy Friday ????
You smell great — love Ouarzazate, and now I want to try Targa.
SOTD!Dr.Gritti Saraj.Virginia Cedar is listed as a note, although it is smothered by olibanum et al.
What a week.
Cedar + olibanum = soothing for me. Have a good weekend!
1) Scent twins with Robin. Thing to know about the CdGxMonocle offering: Since this is an exclusive branding agreement with CdG, it is HIGHLY unlikely that there will ever be a coffret. BACK a few years ago when Monocle had a store in Santa Monica they did have the soaps in a three pack (Hinoki, Laurel* and Sugi), exclusively offered to subscribers.
2) This weekend will be a sort of autumn prep of the backyard- I wanna see if I can grow herbs and winter veg. And I have to ask my neighbors about figs, persimmons, Asian pears and plums.
*Syrian style soap has true Laurel oil, is made with olive oil, cleans and heals the skin, can be grated to wash fine fabrics and smells brilliant. It is also WAY CHEAPER than Monocle Laurel soap.
Mmm, thanks for this info. Sounds great! I do like CdG Laurel, also.
I ordered a soap!
An Aleppo/Syrian style soap? EXCELLENT.
Yes, and the seller promised that it was still made in Syria (not Turkey or France) which, as one can imagine, is difficult these days … I am looking forward to receiving it; thanks for the recommendation!
I need to get a bar of this! What’s a good place to order from?
I did not figure there would be — they don’t do them even for the “regular” CdG scents!
Yeah! Which is a pity- since CdG fragrances should be collected like Pokeman!
Happy Friday, NST!
I’m in Arz El-Rab for the CP. Ginger, iris, and cedar.
Soon I’m heading to a Spanish Conversation Hour for Spanish-learners at my university. I haven’t spoken it since I studied abroad in Madrid about 5 years ago, so am very, very rusty. Wish me luck!
PS – thanks beck_hen for your suggestion of adding orange flower water to Greek yogurt. I tried it this morning and it was superb.
You smell great! I love Arz el Rab. Sadly, I knocked my bottle off my dresser and broke it. I need to replace it one of these days. It made my bedroom smell good while the remains of it lasted in the box, though.
You smell great!!! Love Arz el Rab
Ha! I just realized that I quoted sweetgrass word for word-LOL!
Great minds think alike. ????
I went with good ol’ Feminite du Bois, small spritzes for the office. When I wore it the other night I realized if I don’t go too crazy with sprays, then it has really low sillage and is shockingly work appropriate. I thought about wearing Stash today, but I’m not sure it’s ok for work. I might wear it as my SOTN later.
Happy Friday! This one came quickly with the holiday on Monday. Can’t wait for tomorrow’s swap meet. I’m also going to a vintage flea market, a monthly event in the industrial section of downtown Seattle. Hoping for some good finds and that it doesn’t rain too much.
Lots of SL scents today, but FdB is especially popular. You smell gorgeous.
Oof meant to say mine is the original Shiseido EDP but still essentially SL. I still have half a bottle, and I’ve never tried the one released under SL actually. I do really enjoy all of the SL perfumes that FdB spawned.
And thank you!
Back to work today after 8 busy, travel filled days off. I have my Stanley filled with my favorite coffee.
Sotd is Diptyque Fleur de Peau. No cedar, but very work friendly imo.
For those of you that asked about yesterday’s sniff off between Eau Premiere and L’eau…this was my finding: they start off almost identical to my nose but as they dry down, the Eau premiere softens and has a soft vanilla presence whereas the L’ Eau retains more of the “sharpness” of the opening aldehydes. I have decided I prefer the Eau Premiere, which was also longer lasting on my skin.
Unfortunate considering I have a bottle of the L’ Eau.????
My husband’s Stanley is 15 yrs old and has been rescued from some unlikely places. Personally I want a Stanley flask.
My husband has the Stanley flask, it’s super cute.
I must be missing something in L’eau, I don’t smell anything after the first five minutes. Eau Premiere is very strong on me though, and certainly lasts all day.
I liked Fleur de Peau when I tried it, but couldn’t picture a scenario where I wouldn’t be at least as happy wearing something else.
SOTD is my very favorite Yves Rocher oldie, Nature Millenaire (women’s). I love the cedar in this! It reminds me very much of Tauer’s LDDM but it came a long time before and at a fraction of the price. But that was prior to its being d/c, luckily I have a backup bottle as it’s quite expensive now if you can find it. I think the men’s was a favorite of Bear.
The NM cedar blends beautifully with the real cedar that surrounds me in the forest where I’m spending the weekend at a mountain music fest in the foothills of Appalachia. A beautiful setting + beautiful traditional music = peace. We literally stumbled upon both this place and this fest on the way home many years ago and return whenever we can. It’s worlds away from what I grew up with and worlds away from my daily life. Will be stopping in Berea, KY to purchase my very first dulcimer on the way home. It’s been on my bucket list for way too long!
In the spirit of my weekend, wishing everyone at least a glimmer of peace and beauty in yours!
Your weekend sounds absolutely magical! And I bet you smell great too.
Hope it all goes as perfectly as it sounds, Laila!
I am scent twins with perfumelover67 in Kyoto. It was one of my “sniff, then buy immediately” scents when I first became a perfumista and still a love. I also really like the little cannister packaging.
Hello twin! We smell wonderful!
Participating in Hermes Cedre Sambac!
Wish I could join you, but you smell great!
Are you done with your samples? I still have one to go (thank you, Hermes!!), but dread the day when I’ll need to confront the question whether to spend all that money on a FB …
I don’t have any samples, I’ve just been spritzing myself at the shop. I’m going to buy it eventually.
SOTD is Baccarat Rouge 540, with these notes listed: Jasmine, Saffron, Cedarwood, Ambergris. The cedar is quite prominent in this one, and the jasmine surprisingly reticent.
Great choice. Such a beautiful perfume. ????
Fiori di Capri for a very early meeting. 20 minute walk afterwards in the cool humidity to a market that sells a house-brand coffee we like. Only to find they were out. Sigh. Will have to call and then trek over there again…. hopefully they’ll be restocked tomorrow.
Going to replenish with Berdoues Scorza di Sicilia, which I haven’t yet tried from the sample box. Cedar is listed…
Have a good weekend everyone! I think we have a window of one good day of weather in NYC tomorrow…
Looks like we have about the same window! Hope you get your hands on your coffee
Hello NST,ers! I am in Cedre Sambac for the first time – holding off 4 our CP!
It is wonderful and has some vavvvom for a Hermessence,,,,, definitely crushing on this one, I can’t wait to read all these great posts and I will have a smell-off to report on next,
Here,s to cooler weather!
I really should have worn that this week, completely forgot!
Christian Lacroix Tumulte Pour Homme today, I saw you wore this yesterday, Robin, but I didn’t read it until late last night. I’ve been saving this all week to wear today, just love it.
Yay, such good stuff!
SotD = Comme des Garçons Red Sequoia
Smells like the real deal! Enjoying this sample very much.
Got to try Kyoto this week, thought it would be love, it was just ok. Gonna try it again.
BUT I think I am in love with Avignon which is also new to my nose and didn’t think would work.
Just goes to show, you never know, you know?
Happy Friday, NST!
Your story reminds me of the times I’ve seen or heard about where someone would come into the cat shelter all ready to adopt a cat or kitten they’d seen online, but while there, another cat would grab their attention and “demand” to be taken home, so they’d change their mind and happily take the new one home! Maybe, just as cats choose their humans, perfumes “choose” us?
oh! that’s sweet to think how people and pets find one another. I love the idea that there is something that connects particular people and animals. When we take time to look and then recognize the link, it really pays off.
and yep, I agree cats and perfumes, they choose us.
Sequoia is so good, really surprised we don’t see more mentions of it.
agree! Sequoia is excellent, it smells so good!
Although not cedar, I’m wearing cypress with my SOTD, Encre Noire by Lalique. Still in the tree family
Happy, glorious Friday all! What a heck of a week and it goes on…….
I always confuse Burt with Tom Selleck; must be the stache. RIP, Burt.
Not participating today in the CP
Cedar=hamster cage on me
I am in Samsara (thanks for the votes yesterday)
???? You smell wonderful!
I actually sniffed Samsara in the wild recently. I was waiting in line at Walgreens and the woman next to me smelled fantastic, so I finally complemented her. “You smell lovely, it’s Samsara isn’t it?” Her, “ oh, I don’t know, my husband got it for me, it comes in a red bottle?” Me, “yes, that’s Samsara.”
You don’t know?!???? She went on to tell me it was actually the lotion, which I didn’t know they made. Of course I went home and furiously googled and try to find some but couldn’t. Have you ever seen the lotion?
wow, lotion eh? (said like a Canadian)
She has a great husband
I have not seen that one..a long time ago I had samsara bath salts and they were heaven for the tub.
I see on the Guerlain website that they have changed their packaging and do not have the red bottles anymore.
I have a clear coffin like bottle with a red and gold cap (that is a spray bottle) and I also have the Parfum, a small red bottle that you can only dab with your finger.
I was very happy that NSTers find Samsara sexy.
Here a link for the lotion
But for $995….
I just choked on my afternoon coffee!????
$995 for Samsara lotion??? Zoinks!
That was the best laugh I have had all week!!!
Insane! I will add some of the perfume to a very nice unscented body lotion and smell the same for a tiny fraction of that price!
Wearing a few spritzes of Chene de Mousse 30 courtesy of the new Le Labo shop in Edinburgh. There’s some cedar there in the background. It’s been enjoyable to wear, but I can’t imagine paying such a fat price for this £212 for 50ml! For that I want something earth-shatteringly beautiful, and some sense that the cost has come from materials not just “exclusivity”.
Oh, and thanks for the suggestions re: rosacea flare ups yesterday. I popped in to Space NK today, was lucky enough to find someone who seemed to have lots of clue–several members of his family have it, and he has a coconut allergy too. He was well-versed in the different types and friendly products, and associated fanatical ingredients reading habits. (Got a Rodial serum to try. Fingers crossed.)
I find Avene Cicalfate really good for my sore dehydrated skin. It is marketed for post-surgery/ laser burn offs healing .
that sounds amazing… but sadly not something I can use, because the second ingredient is coconut derived. Stupid over-sensitive hissy-fit-throwing foot-stamping skin!
When perfume starts getting expensive I start translating it into plane tickets and holidays…like, ‘I could go to Melbourne for that.’ I think that’s my line in the sand.
I like the way you think, need to use that strategy myself.
You are a wise woman
Not really because if I went on holiday I’d want to buy the perfume I can’t get here so it would work out far more expensive. Can’t win.
oops. I meant Mousse de Chene. My brain is fried today.
Glad to hear that you got to talk to someone about rosacea remedies. It sucks when your skin starts acting up for whatever reason.
BOM Incense (Ys-Uzac). Love it. This makes me think more of burning leaves than church incense. Not especially smokey. Will switch to Olympic Orchids woodcut later or maybe wonderwood. It’s only 6 am so I’m allowed to be indecisive. I love wood scents but some cedar notes can strike me as artificial and harsh. I like pencil shavings cedar and cut wood cedar more than needles and cones. We have a big Lebanese Cedar section in our botanic gardens reflecting the importance of Lebanese settlers during the early years of this city.
It would be a huge mistake to make any big decision at that hour!
I do love pencil shavings.
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDT
There are shockingly more perfumes with cedar listed in the notes than I ever imagined; however, I hardly ever smell it. No.19 EDT is one example. Opardu? Nada! In any case, despite wearing LASHINGS of No.19 EDT, it went poof in about 3 hours. Maybe it’s a good thing as I may stop by Barneys today. Would you believe I have not smelled Le Labo Mousse de Chine? If I like it, a bottle is coming home with me.
I’m starting a new series called “Word of the day”. It will include a combination of new to me words (and I will mention where I read it) and remarkable words.
encomium — a speech or piece of writing that praises someone or something highly.
The Quick Side of Passion by Alexander McCall Smith
(The Sunday Philosophy Club Series)
How I feel about the word:
It’s an ugly word but means something good.
What other words would you put in this category?
Now I’m going to be thinking all night!
Ha! Please don’t lose sleep!
My word for the day: dithyrambic. It is a wildly enthusiastic speech or piece of writing.
If you smell the Le Labos, can you please sniff Baie Rose and let me know what you think of it? That’s the only exclusive I haven’t sniffed and am curious about.
Ok, it hurt my eyes looking at your word!
I will request a Baie Rose sample for you!
LOL! Thanks so much for requesting a sample for me!
Got it for you. It did not work for me though. Tried it on skin and had to wipe it off immediately. YMMV.
That was my SOTD yesterday!
Did you like it? When I tried it while bsck, I remembered it was peppery. I don’t like Rose 31 – it smells like dirty socks.
I like Baie Rose-I don’tfind it that peppery, personally. It’s more woody/frankincens-y rose with some spice. I’m not bowled over by Rose 31 but I don’t hate it. Fortunately I don’t get dirty socks, lol. It does smell a little sweaty to me, though.
More Baie Rose for you as I had scrub it off me. It was skanky on me. Eeeek!
Huh. Weird. I find it so clean. Maybe a little dank, like a cold basement, but no skank in sight! Thanks for taking it for the team, though!
Would love to know your thoughts on the Mousse de Chene if/when you do get to try it.
I adore Alexander McCall Smith and have probably read 75 percent of his books. I need to do a second round on all of his series.
The Quick Side of Passion? Is that a new Isabel one? Must get it at the library now!!!
I realize now that it is Quiet and not Quick
and it has come to my attention that I did not read the book prior to that one…will be stopping by the library tomorrow to pick it up and then after will get the Quiet Side of Passion.
You’re right! Quiet Sude of Passion! I also just finished The Good Pilot, Peter Woodhouse.
AMS has a way with words. The only series I haven’t read is The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency. Once I start, I won’t stop so I need to wait until I am good and ready!
Ha! that is the only series of AMS I have not read as well!!! There are so many of them that I had planned on saving for a time when I had more time. Right now my work life is INSANE!!!! No time to read blogs, let alone books. I come home at the end of the day and literally crash!
I’m doing it!! Prada Infusion d’Iris. It’s my fly under radar office daily wear, so all week I’ve been on challenge.
Yay you! What they don’t know, won’t hurt them????
Ha, that’s so funny!
This is hilarious. Imaginary perfume ads. Watch out for Idris Elba’s eternal eyes.
OMG what fun!!!Especially the Nicolas Cage one!!Hahaha!!!????????????
Hmmm.. choices choices. Maybe Gucci pour homme 1 or diptyque tam dao for cedar friday. Not quite autumnal enough yet for any of the Serge Lutens bois series.
What did you end up wearing?
Poivre Piquant by l’artisan lol..
LOL, none of the above!
I’m in CdG Monocle: Sugi, a light and lovely cedar choice for summer. It’s from a rollerball, and I’m rather tempted to decant it so I can try it sprayed.
Nevertheless, I like it a lot, and it’s a good option for late summer when I’m tired of all the citrus!
How embarrassing….I just now realized I’m twins with Robin. ????
Nah, not embarrassing … who has time to read everything? Glad to see another twin
How do you decant from a rollerball? I’ve wanted to do that before but could never figure it out.
I replied below.
Good idea to leave the bottle standing up for awhile before decanting – thanks for the tip!
It’s a very cold Saturday morning here, it’s looking like spring with trees showing their first leaves, and a magnolia in the neighbour’s garden, but winter has not finished yet – the last week has been amongst the coldest of the year. That’s a roundabout way of saying that I haven’t participated in the community project, despite have a perfect candidate for Friday.
Thameen’s Moon of Baroda is pretty much all cedar according to Fragrantica, but it didn’t go with my Friday clothes. The more I think about perfume, the more I find that my perfume needs to be right with what I’m wearing. On Friday, it was more important that I dressed to stay warm than to match cedar! I wore Aedes de Venustas Palissandre d’Or, which I have just seen has some cedar, so I participated in a minor way without knowing it.
You get full credit in my book! ????
I’m in MFK APOM Femme. I don’t have many perfumes with cedar, let alone ones I’d want to wear in summer, so I was at a loss for a while on this one. But then the ol’ sample stash came through with flying colors and offered me APOM: a spring/summer scent with cedar as a featured note. Mission accomplished.
Wishing you all a great Friday/Saturday, my fragrant friends!
I maybe should have scheduled cedar for October, sorry!
Not at all! It was an opportunity to re-examine my samples—and find something new, since I think I forgot to ever test APOM before. Besides, October is still pretty darned warm here.????????
How do you decant from a rollerball? I’ve wanted to do that before but could never figure it out.
You pop off the ball part, it is surprisingly easy to do. I usually let the rollerball stand vertical for a few hours before popping off the top.
I have successfully hoola-hooped for the first time in many years earlier this week! It’s been a fun way to get some exercise in, although I don’t remember it being difficult at all back in the day.
SOTD = SL Bois de Violette, from the sample stash. On me this is mostly Parma violets and violet leaf with a whisper of cedar. Works for me, since cedar can become one of those overwhelming “exploding” notes.
Hey Twin! I can’t remember the last time I used a hoola hoop. Sounds like a fun way to get in shape.
What I have is called a “Wave Hoop”. It’s filled with some water instead of the beads and air that a regular hoola hoop has. That might be part of the increased difficulty I’m having.
Are you taking a class or just doing it at home? Curious because my Y was offering classes…I was told it was great fun.
I’m just doing it at home. I find that if I have to go somewhere to exercise, I am a LOT less likely to do it. But I have been having fun puttering around by myself!
Yeah — I prefer yoga in a class, but almost everything else, I am more likely to do it at home.
Go you in the hoola-hoop! If I try it now, I would probably wrench my back.
It took me several attempts to get a rhythm going. At one point, I wasn’t sure it was ever going to happen.
Grace Jones, age 69
Grace Jones is still fierce!!!
Hoop it up! Sounds like water would binanwhole lot more challenging for sure. Not only because of the inherent weight of the water, but because of the centrifugal force once it gets moving. Good for you!
Hoola hooping!!!! I used to love doing that as a kid! I have heard it is great exercise!
Hey Jalapeño – it’a great FUN isn’t it but much harder then we were kids!! It gets easier though and still
Really fun!! I felt 10 again!
No cedar today, that note doesn’t work well for me generally.Wearing Kuumba Made Lavender Lace today.
We are even because lavender only rarely works for me
Cedre Atlas!!! This was the perfume that really made me a perfumista, it holds a special place in my heart and I LOVE it.
The initial citrus burst lasts about 10 minutes on me and then it’s soft cedar all day. My co-worker’s dog approves too!
i totally forgot about that one! You smell great, and how great to have a puppy dog at work. There was a gentleman where I used to work who trained puppies destined to become seeing eye dogs. He brought the pup to work most days, and it was always wonderful to have a little furball around.
commenting late but on theme with Tam Dao – the sample’s no longer, but I like it quite a bit! Happy Friday! Off to Amazon to buy atomizers for the swap meet…
Wearing the very last of my Neela Vermiere Bombay Bling! Appropriate for an Artwalk, I think, since it is a work of art. I can’t say I get cedar, particularly, mostly just mango, spices, and tobacco, but it counts. I will ask for more of this for Christmas, I think. Happy weekend, everyone!
