Thursday scent of the day 7/5

Posted by Robin on 5 July 2018 209 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday and happy Apple Turnover Day! (And don't forget that Donatella will be dropping by shortly.) What fragrance are you wearing?

I went with Hermès Brin de Réglisse because Coumarin wore it yesterday.

Reminder: 7/6 will be Frida Kahlo's birthday...do what you like with the theme! (Kevin wrote about a perfume she actually wore in A Celebrity’s Scent: Frida Kahlo & Dana Emir.)

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Happy Thursday!!
I have completed moving residences, and now have only the metric crap-ton of boxes to unpack.!!

Celebrating with Eau My Soul from 4160 Tuesday as it is a happy, sweet scent that mirrors how I am feeling

Good for you! Enjoy that happiness that completing a task brings… Unpacking? Well, ugh… but maybe that Eau My Soul will help. Happy Thursday!

SotD is Atelier Cologne Bois Blonds. I love the combination of citrus and incense in this one, and it’s perfect in the heat. It was my first full bottle Atelier, but when it is gone I won’t replace it because it is too fleeting. I have about 25/30 mls left, and I’m joining CM8 in “wear it til it’s gone.” Let’s see how long it takes me…????

It’s currently 75, but the humidity is still really high. I think it is supposed to break for tomorrow and be pleasant again…just in time for me to head back to work. ????

I just put on some original Eau Premiere from the tall, slender bottle and some of the reformulated when they changed to the standard square one. Haven’t worn this in a while and it is hitting the spot!

How do they compare, in your opinion? I’ve been trying all the various iterations of Chanel 5 and was curious about the difference between those two versions.

They are overall quite similar to my nose. I prefer the original as it more lemony and more distinct somehow. But most normies ????would not detect any differences I’d say.

Hi all! Robin, you smell great.

I’m wearing–kid you not–from my bottle of Impressions of Covet. It smells just like Covet to be fair. However, Covet was only at the counters for maybe 6 months, so who made the knock off one? When I saw it at an antique store, I laughed out loud. I love Covet though and really need to get off my butt and get a back up.

SOTD: Kerosene Unknown Pleasures. (I really tried to resist, but I think I’m gonna need a decant of this once my sample runs out.)

I mostly chose Unknown Pleasures for today because it really shines in the heat and humidity, but also because I can make a tenuous connection to the CP: I recently found out that the founder of Kerosene is from the Detroit-area of Michigan (hooray for my home state!) As it turns out, Frida Kahlo spent a year in Detroit while her husband, Diego Rivera, was commissioned to paint a series of murals at the Detroit Institute of Arts, which turned out to be quite politically subversive for their time. A few years ago, I went to an exhibition at the DIA about Rivera and Kahlo and their connection to Detroit, and it was totally fascinating. If you ever find yourself in Detroit, I strongly recommend a trip to the DIA.

I’m hopping on the finish a bottle bandwagon today. I’m wearing Escada Born in Paradise. I only have about 6 ml left, so this should be finished within a day or two if I use the CM8 rules of application, LOL! I tried Moscow Mule the other day, and did not care for it. It reminded me of a citrus Not a Perfume. To bad, love the bottle. Money saved…

oh yes!!! and honestly, the Escadas need to be applied with a heavy hand in my opinion…..I have every single bottle going back to 1994….those are the bottles I never discard….whether or not I like the fragrance someone in the house ends up wearing it…..this year’s Sorbetto Rosso was confiscated by the eldest mini marzipan…smells like a salted watermelon on her….very good…..

I thought the older bottles were prettier and the juice a bit more complex… some even had oakmoss. But I still like the current offerings in terms of the bottles and the juice isn’t half bad.. Cherries in the Air was a recent good one

Bit of Bulgari The Noir left on one hand, bit of The Bleu on the other (as part of my project to test as many of the 5 and 4 start scents from the guide – although The Bleu is not in it). I like trying scents on the back of my hand because it makes me look a tad less deranged when I sniff my hand repeatedly on public transport, but it fades a lot faster with all the hand washing.

I like the dry down and the initial, the middle felt a bit medicinal. Definitely odd that it’s in the women’s section here! Maybe better as a body lotion than a hand cream?

Going commando at the moment, as I am scheduled to help a friend finish demolishing her bathroom this morning, and it’s close quarters. We’ve removed the vanity, gotten all the tiles off of the wall, removed the toilet, and chipped off some floor tile. This morning’s project is to get the shower pan (which I suspect is glued to the floor) out, and complete the removal of the floor tiles. And then truck it all to the county dump.

I might dab a tiny bit of perfume on, though, because I feel – well, not naked without it, but I experience a certain disappointment when I’m not wearing scent. It will have to be innocuous, though, so I won’t be channeling Friday today!

I’m wearing Jacomo Art Collection #9, a blind buy from a couple of years ago that has become one of my favorite summer fragrances. Notes are mango, orange, cinnamon, sandalwood, pink pepper, praline, lemon, and vanilla. It starts out fruity but becomes an oriental in the drydown. It’s not too sweet, either.

Hajusuuri, I tried Naja last week. I wasn’t too impressed initially but the drydown on the paper strip was gorgeous. Since I didn’t try it on skin I might have to get a sample. Might be up for a split if all goes well.

I didn’t wear perfume yesterday because my beloved dog Dot made her final trip to the vet and I wanted her to smell my skin, while I breathed deeply into the sweet smell of her fur. She was so silky soft and had the most wonderful puppy smell. I am sitting quietly in my grief, missing her desperately. We were intensely bonded and she was my pride and joy. Fly free baby girl, I love you forever.

    Any pear note recommendations?

Well I was thwarted from my plan to wear Eau de Magnolia to complement Kahlo’s Magnolias painting. My travel spray wouldn’t spray! I tried rotating the nozzle, but I just couldn’t get the sprayer to press down. Has anyone encountered this with the FM travel sprays and have any advice? I have only sprayed it one other time, and it was at least a year ago.

So I had to make a quick decision because I was running late, so I did a light application of Bombay Bling for the tropical fruits of FK paintings. Even as lightly applied as I could manage I’m worried it’s too much for the office!

I haven’t had that issue with their travel sprays, but have with some other atomizers. Maybe try taking the the sprayer piece off and put it back on? That works sometimes. If not, I’d try calling one of their boutiques and let them know (or bring it back to where you bought it?). They may send you a replacement.

Thanks, I will play with it more when I get home and try to remove the sprayer piece. I either bought or swapped for this from another perfume lover, so I can’t go the route of contacting FM. I wish I could!

Hi all! :) Today’s SOTD is Guerlain’s Jicky extrait (vintage). I’m getting lots of skank and musk with loads of refreshing green notes of lavender, which I love, unfortunately, the hubby doesn’t.

I hope everyone had a fun and festive July 4th! I managed not to overeat (a miracle, given all the ice cream and potato salad laying around!), but overall I was on my best behavior food-wise. :)

I know! To me, there’s nothing better than the combination of carbs and mayonnaise. :)

I make a potato salad with red-skinned potatoes, mustard seed, eggs, green onions and crispy bacon bits. It hits all of the cravings, salty, carbs, crunchy/smoky bacon bits. Oy.

Scents OTD are my new Chanel Eaux. Paris-Deauville on the left hand, Paris-Biarritz on the right. I’ve worn them separately already, now trying them together, which is giving me an odd experience… I feel like I’m not smelling the whole scent now; mainly smell what’s different about them.

Anyway, here’s my mini reviews. They are both definitely summer colognes, and both definitely Chanels — well blended, no sticky-outy bits. Nice bottle though the caps aren’t the delightful magnetic ones; ah well.

Paris-Deauville starts out with a bright citrus opening, then adds herbal (basil) and green notes. There might be some florals but I can’t really make out details.

Paris-Biarritz starts out with a bright citrus opening; they claim tangerine vs mandarin, who knows. P-B then adds musk and light florals. Overall a little sweeter than P-D.

Both last a couple of hours, and both have the interesting property that once they’ve faded to 2-dimensional scents, if you warm up your skin they suddenly pop out to 3 dimensions again. Bet they’re great in the heat.

Verdict: Glad to have both of them and will likely be wearing them quite a bit this summer. I don’t generally like herbal scents but in this case, I think P-D may be my favorite of the two.

Has anyone tried Paris-Venise? That one didn’t sound like quite my thing but I’m still curious about it.

My friend whose sister is missing has had to change her Facebook identity because she said the family was getting all sorts of cruel messages and hate mail–she’d made it public so people could offer help or tips. It’s devastating how mean people can be. She said the police have been staking out a place, and that sounds somewhat positive, in the sense they at least know something, but it appears three drug dealers took her and her car… not good.
On a positive note, my friend’s annual 4th of July party was well attended last night. People enjoyed the hot dogs I took (one friend brought vegan ones too) and we had a good view of the fireworks downtown.

Had an argument with a fire ant mound, and we all know how that turned out for my toes. So it’s calamine and Hermès for me today!

I adore Pamplemousse Rose, it’s so fizzy and uplifting in the heat.
Ouch to the fire ants, I fell in a pile years ago when I first moved to Sarasota FL, I was covered in welts, very uncomfortable for quite a few days. :(

Oh no, about the ants! Horrible! I just heard a preview of a news story for tomorrow about how fire ants have shown up in the port city of Busan, Korea, and they are turning to Texas for advice and help on how to deal with them. Talk about an invasive species you don’t want!

It’s a constant battle for us. I think they just migrate around from yard to yard…the unwanted guests that always seem to surprise you when you discover them! ???? ????
I hope we can help Busan out, we certainly have experience with them.
Hey, I’m glad you were able to see some fireworks last night. Hug those sweet kitties close.

Empty Alert: I finished a FB of D&G Dolce today.

SOTD is the aforementioned Dolce, which is a welcome light accompaniment to this toasty (already 107°) day.

Happy 70th Birthday today to the NHS! I was covered and cared for by the venerable institution as an overseas student and am thankful.

Stay cool and waft on, NSTers.

Congrats on finishing the bottle! Your alert made me laugh, whenever my daughter sees a dog she yells out pupper alert! And if she sees a cute boy she yells cute boy alert! Lol ????

In Atelier Blanche Immortelle, because someone recently wore it in the heat, which I’d never thought to do. I thought it would be too sweet. It is still sweet, but I plan to wear it more this summer. It isn’t overpowering.

Another steamy day here in the Mid-Atlantic region. The weather guys & gals say that the heat wave will break tomorrow. w00t w00t!

SOTD = Byredo Flowerhead, from the sample stash and a generous NSTer. This smells GREAT in the heat and humidity. It might go on my short list for tomorrow’s community project.

It’s already starting to cool down here, relatively speaking. It’s 88!

It’s still pretty gross outside where I am. Taking the recyclables out was an icky sticky trip. The weekend is supposed to be gorgeous, though… sunny and low 80’s!! ????

Happy almost Friday! It’s been a disjointed week again and I’ve been super-busy; I could finally take a breath after lunch. I’m celebrating with a nice glass of Pinot Grigio as I feel like I’ve made some progress!

I’m wearing a few sprays of Orris Tattoo. Yesterday I may have gassed myself with like 6 sprays it as I thought I couldn’t smell anything. Today I went with maybe 3 sprays. I’m getting something a bit floral on the surface, but if inhale deeply then I get a more rooty vibe.
