Almost-Friday, plus Caramel Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I went with Prada Candy. Has anyone tried the new Prada Candy Sugar Pop? Do comment and tell me if I need to try it.
Reminder: on 4/6, wear one of your "top 10 of spring" fragrances (unless it's fall where you are, in which case wear one of your "top 10 of fall" scents).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Prada Robot Leather Coin Purse Key Chain ("Crafted of blue, grey, and multicolored saffiano leather, Prada's robot coin purse key chain is completed with jack-plug "legs," a zipper "mouth," and grey and silver leather and stud "eyes." Made in Italy, this bionic figure is one of many playful motifs frequently used by the storied house") is $310 at Barneys.
Sotd is Diptyque Fleur de Peau from a sample. I like it. It is definitely not a statement perfume, but I don’t think it is meant to be. Has anyone tried this one and No 18 and can tell me how they compare? I am always on a quest to find the perfect, fly under the radar skin scent since technically my workplace is scent free. I need a good list of no-scent scents, lol. What are everyone’s favs?
I sprayed FdP on in the store a week or so ago, and by the time it hit my skin, it was already gone. Anosmic? Maybe. But my girlfriend couldn’t smell anything either. I’ve never had that happen before.
When I first dabbed from the sample I couldn’t smell it either so I dumped a little more and now I am getting occasional lovely wafts. I think a lot of people can be anosmic to certain kinds of musk. That’s only happened to me once with NR For Her oil. I literally could not smell a thing.
Maybe I’ll give it another try by itself rather than as one of many I’m testing at the same time. Doesn’t sound like it would hold it’s own around other scents with more presence.
Its own. ????
SAme here, I am anosmic to it.
I’ve tried both and don’t they they smell alike to me. 18 reminds me more of PdE Cri de la Lumiere.
I like to have a stash of non-perfumes, which mostly would be mistaken for just showered and/or laundered.
Some I’ve worn:
Cacharel Noa-clean with a little creamy warmth. Cheap!
Aroma M Geisha Blanche-soapy clean with a little fruit. Smells like some good white soap or other.
Derek Lam Silent Street-white musk+cucumber
I’m lemming LL Ambrette 9 but it’s so fleeting that I don’t think I’d shell out for it.
Although the notes are similar, I really disliked Le Cri, while I love No. 18. Not sure why, but there it is. Le Cri was shrill and didn’t meld with my skin in a pleasant way. I know I’m the outlier here.
I didn’t love Le Cri either (though didn’t hate it either). It goes too metallic on me. My husband said it smelled like our dishwashing liquid (Dawn Platinum) and I could sort of see what he meant in a side-by-side ???? But I also didn’t love 18. Same with the metallic element and a bit pickle-y on me.
I also really liked Ambrette 9, but agree that’s it way too much money for a perfume that was originally meant for babies, lol. Maybe that’s why it was so fleeting. I’ll add those others to my list!
Some of my favorite quiet work-friendly scents are Chanel No. 19 poudre, Cacharel Noa, and Balmain Ivoire.
Hmm…two suggestions for Noa-I’m definitely adding that one to the list!
Thirding the Noa…also, ten years ago I shared an office space with someone who had very little tolerance for perfume…during that time period I had the entire Philosophy Grace collection and also Clean Warm Cotton (she tolerated all of those). Perfect Veil is also another good one as well as something simple like Alyssa Ashley Musk which sells for a song online.
From what I recall, I liked Perfect Veil (Sarah Horowitz).
Giving a fourth for Noa.
I really like Balmain Ivoire- I was not so sure about the name, but the scent itself is so crisp and airy and super fresh, very elegant indeed!
I would add Mugler Cologne to your list of under-the-radar scents.
Yes I second that. One of my favorite colognes, lovely clean scent.
Yes, it’s been a few years since I’ve smelled that one but I remember it smelling “clean” in a non-soapy, green kind of way.
and this…a new discovery for me…
https://nstperfume.com/2006/06/15/santa-maria-novella-melograno-pomegranate-fragrance-review/
I have an older bottle than what is currently being offered at Luckyscent…it smells gorgeous and soft and subdued…reminds me very much of vintage Emeraude…once I finish up some of my other bottles that have a tad of juice in them I will start on this one…I think it is a perfect under the radar wear anytime anywhere kind of fragrance.
Lumiere Blanche
Musc Nomade
Philosophy Cream
Gabrielle
Not all of this are skin scents but some are close to the skin scents while others are pleasant and don’t announce themselves as perfume
Eau de narcisse blue.
I love it and wear it a lot in spring and summer.
I think most Eaus (including Eau des merveilles), and also the Jardins, from Hermès are quite ‘under the radar’.
Imo the ideal brand for business meetings where you have to spend too much time with too many people in small spaces hahaha 😉
I also think Satori is great for this purpose, but its soo expensive 🙁
Oh and I d like to add: Iris Nazarena.
(I drained two samples, i want/need more…)
The Merveilles series seem like a good suggestion here. They all wear very quietly on me and don’t announced themselves as “perfume.”
I gave a sample of Satori coming. I hope that I don’t love it but my curiosity always wins out over common sense.
Good morning, NST! I’m looking forward to the top 10 post tomorrow. It’s been fun reading everyone’s springy scents. I’m in search of more spring options for my fragrance wardrobe, but I’m having a hard time finding any that last on me.
Today I’m wearing Ta’if, which I love. Not sure how springy it is, but it has a lovely presence, and I want a full bottle.
You smell wonderful. I think Ta’if works better in warm weather. When I wear it on cold days, the longevity is poor on my skin.
Thank you! That was all I needed to hear to make it my next spring fragrance purchase. ????
Oh my goodness lizbee
I tested Ta’if today and i am in love!
I cannot stop sniffing myself. I haven’t succumbed this fast since Shanghai Lily and I met!
Sorry Niral…. but I have found my birthday gift to me bottle!
Yay!!!! Isn’t it wonderful when among all the beautiful scents, you find one that resonates more deeply and with a bigger yes than all the others? That’s a good feeling!
You smell really wonderful!
Thank you!
Oh, I remember the Prada robots! So freaking cute!
Vintage-ish Aromatics Elixir today. I always get compliments wearing this one.
YUM! You smell FANTASTIC ( after the necessary 4 minutes to settle down)
I don’t remember the Prada robots but the ones in today’s photo are super cute!
I am in Chanel No. 5 EDP ( 2000ish Vintage) as I needed something I really loved today
TSC Un Parfum d’Ailleurs & Fleurs today. Off to walk my dog before it rains!
Oops. TDC = The Different Company, not TSC.
You smell so pretty! I tried that one years ago and it has always stayed in the back of my mind — so feminine and lovely. I may need to sample again.
Rose de Siwa. This has been a most loved spring fragrance from the first day I sampled it.
Tragic story ????…I had a decant of RdS in one of those metal decants with a metal casing surrounding an inner glass liner. I was rushing down the stairs this morning with a bunch of stuff in my hands. The glass liner slipped out of the metal casing and smashed on the stairs. I lost several mls of perfume and had to clean up the broken glass. I’m so glad that I finally cracked and bought a FB as this little decant was the last of my stash. It feels like yhis purchase was meant to be.
Oof! I hate when that happens. You smell beautiful today, though. I may wear that tomorrow.
Oooof! Better a decant than a FB!
Whew! Glad you have a FB. Definitely a purchase that was meant to be.
OH NOES! Rose de Siwa is just so gorgeous, shame any was spilled… but I’m glad you have more. I have a treasured decant myself.
Sorry that happened. The up side: your stairs smell beautiful
LOL! They really do!
Oh no! I’m so glad you didn’t step on any broken glass.
It kinda happened in slow motion, including the expletive I uttered. I am fine but thanks for asking! ????
Oh no!!! That would make me so upset! Glad to hear that it wasn’t the last of your RdS, and that you didn’t get cut from flying glass.
SOTD MFK A la Rose from a swap with Oakland Fresca. Pretty, springy rose! Nice on this sunny, cold day.
Caramel day! Don’t tempt me. 😉 SOTD is the lovely Chanel 19 EDT.
You smell perfect.
You smell truly elegant!
Chanel Cuir de Russie.
I did something to my lower back and I can barely bend over or get up from a seated position. I’ve been taking ibuprofen for a few days. I may try naproxen later today.
I needed one of my comfort scents today, and Cuir de Russie is definitely one of them .
I’m sorry you’re in pain. ???? I hope it gets better soon.
You smell wonderful. CdR is one in my Top 5 of All Time.
Ugh – hope you feel better soon. You smell great!
Oh, I hope the naproxen does the trick!
Sorry you are feeling nasty, but you smell amazing. Hopefully that fantastic scent helps
I hope you feel better soon!
Ouch! So sorry. I add 2 extra strength Tylenol to my ibuprofen and that helps a lot when I have bad back or headache.
Ack! Sorry about your back! Hope it improves quickly because back pain can seriously undermine your day!
1) You smell fantastic!
2) So sorry about your back! Please soak in a tub with very warm-hot water and epsom/magnesium salts, please!
You smell gorgeous. I hope your back recovers quickly.
Ouch! Try a heating pad. Hope you feel better soon!
Thank you for the well wishes and advice. Everyone is so kind here 🙂
I have some caramel chocolates in my box of See’s candy…
Commando at the moment, haven’t showered yet! Sipping tea and reading the WSJ. My nose still hasn’t cleared up yet so Mr. L decided to give me a break today and stayed home so he can do stuff with the little ones.
You’ve had a few tough days recently. I hope you have a relaxing and restful day.
Glad you have some help today and time to rest!
Hope you are on the mend. Must be so hard to be sick with little ones. And probably happens more often since you can’t avoid catching what they get. Glad you have help today!
I hope you and the little ones feel better soon.
I am wearing Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile EDT – lovely mix of orange blossom, iris and jasmine.
You smell lovely! Have you tried Magnolia Noble? I’m curious if it’s worth sampling? Not that I need another lemming.
Thank you!
I tried Magnolia Nobile. It was kind of pretty – white flowers, citrus, a hint of sweet fruitiness, but, as it often happens with magnolia scents, there was something unpleasantly synthetic in it, so eventually I decided that this one was not for me.
I am hard to please when it comes to magnolia in perfumes, though.
Thanks! Good to know!
I have the EDP version of that, I gather it’s quite different. Less orange blossom, more spice. It seems almost voluptuous to me, more like a night out perfume than an office scent. I wish I’d smelled the EDT but I guess they don’t make it anymore.
Yes, EDT and EDP are quite different. EDP is all about iris and (as far I remember) patchouli. I agree that it’s more suitable for night, and I think it’s a fall scent. EDT is sunny and bright, although it’s not weak. A sparkling white floral. I like both versions.
EDT is not on AdP’s website, so you must be right – they discontinued it. What a shame!
Chanel No. 19 edt today- definitely a spring favorite.
Mmmmm.
I have an eeny weeny bottle of vintage parfum that’s in storage, boo hoo. You make me want to rip that box open. You smell beautiful today!
You smell so wonderful!
You totally inspired me bastet
Today I was at my ex’s and found the 19 parfum (vintage)put a dab on each wrist and it’s dusky green oak moss heaven
I am wearing Apres l’Ondee.
You smell beautiful!
Twins! We smell pretty!
You are the essence of spring!
Both you and KellyC smell so lovely today.
I was digging through my clothing that’s still in my ex’s attic – luckily we weren’t Aholes to eachother during the divorce so still good friends. In any case I found a mini bottle of Sideris that I just threw in there last Fall before going to India. Just a few drops left in the bottle but enough to tide me over while I’m in house sitting limbo.
Also, I will be in NYC this coming weekend (Sunday and Monday April 8 and 9. I’m probably not going to make it into Brooklyn to Twisted Lily. Any leads for sniffing in Manhattan? There are quite a few things that I would like to sample.
I love finding something that I’ve “hidden” from myself!
Especially if it’s money ????
Yes! I love putting on a pair of pants or a jacket and finding money in the pocket!
Haha! Yes, and preferably.
The financial district surprisingly has a lot of options if you want to try out a bunch of stuff in one day. Brookfield place has Saks, plus Hermes and Jo Malone stores. And a couple blocks away is the Oculus which has Penhaligon’s and Aesop stores. Makes for fun work lunchtimes 🙂
I’ve really been wanting to check out this place called Perfumarie in Lafayette downtown:
https://perfumarie.com/
It’s a blind sniffing experience of established perfumes and maybe some new stuff also. A little bit of a different experience.
Then there are the usual suspects:
The Aedes/CO Bigelow/F Malle trifecta in the west village is a favorite of mine.
Today I’m wearing Mona di Orio’s Eau Absolue. Its such a cozy comfort scent, I just feel like lazing around now instead of working 🙂
In beloved Le Temps d’une Fete today.
Ack. I’m going to have to mow the grass soon. It’s getting shaggy.
You smell great!
The only good thing about April showers is that the grass is finally turning green in my area. Still, they are predicting snow showers several Xs in the next week. 🙁
Our grass went green before we got all that snow two weeks ago. The tulips seem to have survived, as well as the late-blooming daffodils. Hope the snow leaves you unscathed!
Me too mals! Pretty tired of the whole thing. Happy mowing!
Oh heavens you smell great!
🙂
Wait, didn’t you just have snow?
Yeah! A freak storm that only covered two counties. We got 16″, but my parents, who live 50 miles away, got 2″. It was weird.
Trying Mancera Holidays and Profumum Roma Dolce Acqua from a kind and generous NSTer.
VQ ‘18 continues!
You are so dedicated! If you have to name your top 3 so far, what would they be?
A good question…probably these three if I had to pick but there are many I have enjoyed over the past few months…hard to choose… 😉
1. SDV (old version)
2. Note Vanille
3. And The World Is Yours
I’m curious to hear what you think of the Profumum Roma.
Your post is making me want vanilla. Tonight, I think…
It is very nice but overall too much almond for my taste I think…very good lasting power.
Drinking up some The Pour un Ete, which in my book is very much pour le printemps.
It smells like summer to me but I usually wear it in late spring when I’m trying to summon summer.
I’m in Apres L’Ondee today. It’s usually not my favorite, though I know some people adore it. I’m just more of a Shalimar gal. BUT today, Apres L’Ondee is really hitting the spot for spring.
Speaking of Shalimar, the one good thing about my fiancé being gone is that I can spray anything I want with abandon. I sprayed myself lavishly (in true hajusurri fashion) in Shalimar edp last night and enjoyed it so much haha! My fiancé likes the Shalimar dry down but does not care for the initial spray at all.
You smell lovely! Isn’t it wonderful to be able to spray lavishly? I love walking around my house in my own fragrant cloud. Luckily for me, my husband actually likes me to overspray because he would prefer to smell my perfume when I walk into the room than to have my wrist at his nose. Plus, he doesn’t have a strong sniffer, so I can go to town on the regular. ????
When my husband is out of town I spray Jicky lavishly. I’m not sure why it started, but now I always console myself in a gorgous Jicky cloud.
My Shalimar is your Jicky!
I LOVE the intial blast of Shalimar, especially in the more lemon-centric ones. But I also love the drydown…
He loves the lighter versions and doesn’t mind the opening of those but the edp is too much for him- it’s that smokiness or whatever it is right when you first spray it that he thinks is stinky haha.
There are some versions of Shalimar I have smelled that open up smelling like gasoline! Maybe he is getting something similar to that…
You know, I don’t actually remember if I like Apres l’Ondee. It’s been so long since I’ve sniffed it that all I remember is an idea of the scent, likely strongly based on what other people have said about it.
In a Lemon Cloud this morning – Roca Nuvol de Llimona. Sweet, creamy, lemony goodness. Not exactly springy – I was eyeing my decant of Rose Ikebana, but it’s a dreary gray morning, so didn’t feel right to wear such a cheerful perfume.
this sounds amazing!
It’s nice – Luckyscent has samples I believe. It’s very similar to Fresh Brown Sugar or Lemon Sugar, for some cheaper dupes (and more easily available!).
Grandiflora Queen of the Night today. It’s such a lovely scent.
You smell fantabulous!
You smell awesome!
$310?!? Sheesh. I’d rather have a bottle or two of perfume.
JM Honey and Crocus, after all that talk about it yesterday 🙂 love it, but it is so short-lived.
They are cute, but for slightly more than $310 I was able to stay at an airBNB in Los Angeles for a week, and got free perfume samples!
🙂
Haha, that does seem like a better use of $310ish 🙂
HA! 🙂
Coffee and bagel in hand this morning. SOTD is just a smidge of Bee’s Bliss. I smell springy, oh so springy!
I’m trying to plan a wine tour for this upcoming week. While researching this, I was trying to figure out what I would do with the dog and how to remain sober to drive after…one glass and I have a buzz because I’m a lightweight when it comes to alcohol. I love traveling with my buddy, but it does limit you in certain situations. So, imagine my surprise when I discovered many wineries here are dog friendly and the tour group will pick you (and your doggo) up and drop you off at your chosen hotel!
Also, I’ve missed the sun more than I realized. The sun here is warm (not homicidal like it is in Florida!) and the humidity is very comfortable. I have just been feeling so much BETTER since leaving Oregon. The climate was affecting me much more than I realized I guess. T-Rex is happier because we can comfortably be outdoors without getting drenched. She’s not a fan of rain. Plus there’s a ton of dog friendly shops and restaurants with porches where we can hang and she can steal the hearts of random strangers who always have to stop and pet her. Yesterday, we were at a café and she became fast friends with a toddler who was just fascinated by her. The more the kid screamed and jumped, the more fun the dog had. They were having a total blast and entertaining all the adults watching.
Hope everyone is feeling a bit of a lift as spring gets under way!
I went to an afternoon wine tasting the other day, and two of the bottles were from the Palmaz Vineyards in Napa. Saw photos of the facility-very high tech.
Yes, a whole lotta ignorance on my part about wine, but having a modicum of knowledge about it might be a good thing. I can imagine some of these wineries are heavily dependent on technology these days. I’m more interested in the process rather than the tasting, so not sure if the tour will touch on that or not.
1) Yes, many wineries not only offer tours but help with shuttles as well!
2) I get what you are saying about Oregon, especially Western Oregon and Portland Metro- the grey here lasts for 8 months of the year, and it is not a surprise that so many of my friends suffer from fatigue and low grade depression. When I was in LA I was surprised by my energy level- I was up to literally walk all day and eat a lighter daily diet, and go dancing all night. And I consider myself an energetic person ALREADY.
I consider you a high energy person too, and I don’t even know you! ????
*giggles* 😀
People often think I am on drugs or that I am on the manic spectrum. No, I am really this way! Only sickness (fibroids and a misbehaving thyroid) slowed me down, and not really all that much.
That’s so interesting. When I moved from Boston/Paris to the Bay Area, I did notice a big uptick in energy. I assumed that was because I was excited about the next stage of my life. Now I wonder if it wasn’t weather-related.
I was so excited to read that you’re now in Napa – I love that area so much. If you’re like me, after a few weeks you’ll get tired of wine, but I could never tire of the amazing vegetables. Mmmm. California produce.
Well, I’m not really a drinker, so the wine tasting is secondary for me. However, like I mentioned above, I’m interested in the process. This area is beautiful! I found an IPhone ap that identifies flora and fauna, so I’ve been going around snapping pictures of EVERYTHING! Today I found Wild Radish and Sweet Fennel in a field. Cause I’m a dork like that ????
You are gonna find SO MANY wild herbs in California. Back when it was a Spanish duchy, so many areas around the old missions had European styled herb gardens. So even today, you find herbs growing wild, and adapted to the chaparral climate.
I always feel better in San Diego, the sun really helps.
Yes, Montreal and San Diego are worlds apart. Are you from Montreal, or are you connected there through the hubs?
Neither, hubby is from San Diego. I wanted to live in a French-speaking city and he didn’t want to move to France as he doesn’t speak French, so we compromised on Montreal, which is bilingual.
I love Calistoga and hopping over to Healdsburg in Sonoma County. A pretty drive between the two also.
Yes,once you get out of Napa proper, it’s just gorgeous! I have driven round a hill and bam! there’s a herd of deer, or a few hares leaping off into a field, gorgeous poppies, and plants of every description. I’m looking forward to exploring more area nearby.
Yup, that is prime springtime California wine country. Now, later on in the summer, it can get hazy and very warm, but now is just about as lovely and perfect as any springtime anywhere!
Sonoma County is a bit more varied because it goes all the way to the ocean, so it has lots of lambs, goats, cattle, vineyards, redwoods, orchards… enjoybyiur exploring!
I’ve probably said this before, and will probably say it again: NOW do you see why some of us can’t countenance people complaining about sun? ☔????????
Yes, I get that! But, the Florida sun is an evil twin to the one here in California. This sun is gentle, kind, and touches everything with tenderness. The Florida sun beats you down from great distance like a flame thrower, sizzling you on a burning hot, cherry red anvil until you are a charred ghost of your former self. Ugh.
Yesssss spring!!!
We are expecting spring weather this weekend here (think 68 degrees fahrenheit and sun!!!!)
I am so looking forward to it!
Glad you are enjoying your stay in California. Sounds like a quite relaxing area with all the dog friendly places. And I love your T-Rex stories, it almost feels like I know her. 🙂
Dogs are so awesome!
(even though my avatar gives impression I am a cat person…i am both actually…dont know if thats possible haha).
Cats are the bomb! I’ve had a couple, and lord, what big personalities they had???? Enjoy all that sunshine and the warming temperatures!
I love both as well. Enjoy your nice weather! I am going from warm sunshine to cold and snow tomorrow. 🙁
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
I’m on my 2nd bottle and have observed a noticeable dent in the volume!
Things that irk me:
I work in a building where one has to swipe a badge to go through lobby turnstiles leading to a small elevator bank. There is no need to swipe the badge to go out to the lobby. The other day, i arrived at the turnstile to gi out at the exact same tine as someone trying to get in to the elevator bank. Who has the right of way? I think I do because I am getting out from a smaller space (elevator bank) to a larger space (lobby). The other person decided to swipe in anyway before I got out. Next time, I will own the turnstile and keep moving out and woe is the person in my path!
Your commuter woes have moved indoors ????
lolol
I would say you would have the right of way.
Yes, you definitely had the right of way. IMHO
People exiting definitely have right of way.
Absolute rule. Person exiting has right of way.
That being said, I was once horrified by my boss, a huge 6’5” man, who barged through the exit of a building such that a much smaller woman had to jump aside. I would argue his sheer size and bulk warranted him stepping aside.
Second posting to ask: would anyone be interested in splitting SL Vétiver Oriental? $120 for 50 ml on Fragrancenet. Not yet purchased.
Should have specified: would prefer 10ml splits for something like $29.
Is Fragrancenet a good source for discounted perfumes? Since Notino is no longer, I’d like another place to shop.
Absolutely. I’ve gotten a number of bottles from them. I have only once had a problem (the sprayer was messed up), and they replaced it with no hassle when I called (they offered to replace or reimburse once I’d shipped it back, with a packing slip they paid for.)
The one tricky thing is that their coupons are variable! The website tends to show a 20 or 30 % off coupon, but if you get to the website circuitously, you can get a 37 % off coupon sometimes. Lillyjo figured out that if you get to the website through a fragrantica link, you get the higher percentage. I’ve found that Google searching it does that, too. Someone else suggested you leave your items in your cart for days, whereupon they’ll send you a higher value coupon 🙂
Oh great thank you! I’ll navigate around and see what coupon I can get!????????
I’d be interested in 10ml!
Great! I have your e-mail address, therabbitsflower, but anyone else who might be interested: my e-mail address is ko bhatta at jemale. (I always forget to put that up.)
*waves*
Late to this. In Prada Oeillet, which is very pretty and suitable for a grey but mild spring day!
Very pretty!
I wish I got a full bottle when it was available! But I like having the dabber in my mini set!
If you prefer spraying, those Prada minis decant really easily. (Lots of minis don’t.)
I picked up a sample of that somewhere, maybe Nordstrom’s– had it in my purse and each time I used it I was surprised how much I liked it –and would have to rummage through my purse all over again to figure out what I had just sprayed.
Twins! I just got a sample from Nordies last week and sprayed with abandon today.
Oh! If it is back at Nordies I might commit to a full bottle for summer. It’s good!
They definitely have it…at least here. I had to do a quick run today to exchange something and sprayed even more on.
In Mortel on a gray day in San Francisco. Such a calming fragrance for me. Looking forward to the weekend, hope everyone is well.
Going commando because of some bug. I’m beginning to feel better already, so I’m good.
I’ve been wondering what a BUB is? I’ve seen it mentioned here a number of times and don’t have a clue, and I would love to know!
Back up bottle.????
Of course! Thank you.
Glad you’re on the mend austenfan. Nice to see you here!
Thanks, I read all the comments nearly everyday, but haven been too tired mostly to put any of my own in.
I was very glad to read that you got Rose de Siwa, I’m sure it will not disappoint, even in the long run. It’s one of the MDCI’s I wouldn’t mind a bottle of myself. I own Promesse and Enlèvement and am very fond of several others, Rose, Cœur and Invasion in particular.
Or in some cases, Buy Up Big
And in others, Bringing Up Baby
I’m flying today, so I’m wearing Gypsy Water. I love it for the 30 minutes before it completely vanishes. I can’t imagine anyone sitting next to me will be made uncomfortable by this disappearing wonder.
You smell just lovely. Do you have the EDP of Gypsy Water? I received a rollerball of the perfume oil in the last freebiemeet (thanks again to the sender – I’ve enjoyed it greatly!) and while it’s very quiet, it does stick around for a few hours.
It is the EDP (from a sample). I was wondering about the oil – it’s great to hear that it lasts longer. I think that if I ever want more when my sample runs out, the oil will be the way to go.
I think it disappears fast as well. I love it, but I just can’t shell out that much money for something I can’t smell within an hour or two. But maybe it’s my skin. Y’all know that Tocca Colette is my cheap Gypsy Water substitute lol.
Gypsy Water is quite pretty, but so quiet. My sample works as an “under the radar” scent for me. Too much $$$$ for a full bottle, though.
Sotd = Grandiflora Queen of the ‘Night
I love this one, just a swirl of incense and that magical cactus note, it is different enough from many others that I can see myself reaching for it as a ‘Go-to’ very often. I like also in cool
Weather- a surprise!’
Another split-meet favorite from last year!!! ThankU O’ wondrous NST’er!!
Queen of the night is just glorious. You smell amazing!
Thank You Sistine!!
You smell great!
Another gray gloomy day. I am joining Robin in Prada Candy.
THE sun has come out and I’ve switched to PHI Rose de Kandahar. 🙂
Perfect segue. We got a little bit of sun in the afternoon but I had to leave town again and brought nothing with me…
Today’s SOTD is my latest cheapie impulse buy: BBW In the Sun. It’s a beachy orange blossom on a skin musk/sandalwood base. There’s also something in it that smells vaguely sunscreeny to me. Perfect way to cheer up on a chilly, gloomy day.
Is it the weekend yet? I had a rather intense job interview yesterday for an internal position at the academic library where I work. I think it went well, but it really wore me out! The hiring decision is supposed to come in 2-3 weeks but I’m too excited about the job to want to wait that long!
Best Of Luck HolyNeroli!
Fingers crossed and best of luck for you!
I hope you are offered the job. Good luck
Good luck! Hope you get the job!
Good luck! My fingers are crossed for you.
Good luck on the job!
Fingers crossed that you get good news back on your interview! ????
Grey day. Violette Sacree to brighten things up just a smidgen.
That’s a gorgeous scent. Hope it gave your spirits a lift!
Sotd was Ormonde Woman.
My mini bottle of Panthere (parfum concentration) arrived (not La Panthere, but Panthere). So I am wearing that right now.
I admit, I bought this mostly because the little bottle looked so cute with those black panthers on it and the price was right. I never smelled or sampled it before.
But the juice is not bad! Its a ‘go big or go home 80s floriental, I like it a lot!
When I heard Panthere was going to be discontinued to make way for La Panthere, I bought up a bunch of the parfum. I have about 75ml, I think. It’s one of my most loved scents. You smell great! Plus the bottles are adorable.
Smart move!
Its good stuff. I have no regrets blind buying it.
And I really dont get why they replaced Panthere with La Panthere.
Just look at that Cartier Panthere bling bling! Decadent stuff.
I can only imagine a big ‘vintage style’ perfume to wear with it, not the polite and lovely (but slightly boring, at least to my nose) La Panthere….
You were smart! Mom and I used to wear Panthère, great stuff.
Following Robin a bit, wearing Prada Candy Kiss. I tried Candy Gloss and it was very cherry cough drop to me. I have not tried the Sugar Pop yet. I called in sick to work today, because I’m sick. With my last job, I would have went in out of loyalty, but that meant very little in the end. I decided I won’t be killing myself for work anymore. But I’m still feeling guilty. I was hoping to see Perfumelover67 today. I know people come and go, but I still worry. Hope everyone is as well as can be.
She may be reading and see your concern. Feel better lillyjo.
Hope you feel better soon!
Oh bummer! I hope you get well soon lillyjo!
It’s amazing how much work you can get when you don’t have electricity and potential electricity- enabled distractions ( internet , cooked food, vacuum cleaners, washing machines). I think my top something spring scent would probably be Gabrielle. It’s light and pretty so I’ll wear it today. I was in the graveyard yesterday and spotted an interesting name Hortense Schlonberg. If I’d had internet I would have searched for information. Happy spring to everyone. Fabulous moon this morning and a big shining star…probably a planet…right next to it.
The jeweler who made our wedding rings is named Ysidro Nilsson, which entertains me.
Eau de Tommi Sooni II for a partially cloudy day with a promise of later rain (Yay!). It’s a pity this brand had closed. But at least I have a bottle of this beautiful perfume to enjoy.
I can’t believe it’s Thursday already. I’m happy a weekend is close but I have so much work to do… What am I doing here?!! 🙂
Have a good day, everybody!
It is a pity — I sort of thought they’d reappear under a new name or something. Seems a shame when so many crap niche lines are prospering.
Morning, all. It’s definitely cooler now, thank goodness, and I’m starting to layer up my clothes. This is always fun: I get bored with little dresses, because no matter how pretty they are, they remain just one garment. Layers lend themselves to “shopping” in my wardrobe for different looks.
SOTD is Oeillet Bengale, all spicey, warm, assertive carnation goodness. I love it, and it softens into a nice work scent. This is one I intended to buy a FB of at Fumerie when I went back to the PNW this year…..no, that path still leads to full grumpiness. I will buy other beauties in Europe, and I WILL go to PNW in 2019.
Work is full of people. That sounds stupid, but everyone seems to think that it’s the Deputy’s role to hear their grumbles and diagnoses of what’s wrong in the school. I’ve formed the policy of letting them have their moan, but I don’t take any of their emotions on board. In the process, I glean some small items of useful information, and they go away unburdened. Well, I suppose they do. One positive thing that is frequently said is that my office smells nice. Well, that’s good! Maybe nice perfume soothes their heaving academic bosoms a little too. I wish it could be that easy.
Speaking of people, I have an early meeting with a grumpy groupabout staffing. I had better go and organise myself. Be well, all.
We can state with absolute certainty that your office smells good today. Gorgeous scent. One of my favorites.
I bet you can purchase Oeillet Bengale in Paris. I’ve bought it in Munich.
They have it in Jovoy Paris, for sure. Roullier White in London, too.
And yes: work here too is *very* full of people right now.
I was doing my boyfriend’s taxes before work this morning and had a bit of frustration at H&R Block, so I easily decided on No. 19 parfum. Looks like there are quite a few others in various concentrations of No. 19 today as per usual. ????
I quickly sorted out the frustrating tax bit when I got to work.
No. 19 worked its magic for you. 🙂
SOTD for me is MFK Oud Satin Mood. The juice is gray and so is our weather, but both in a nice, soft, enveloping sort of way. We have spring and the air is kind of sweet and the humidity feels like a caress. The juice smells great, powdery with vanilla, and some flowers, and I also notice benzoin. It’s probably too soft and sweet for many people but it’s just like a very lightweight gentle little silk blouse that sometimes feels wonderful to wear.
This whole post gave me good feels 🙂
IT is very nice, you smell great.
There was one of those moments at work today. I was wearing Portrait of a Lady, and a colleague declared that I smelled very nice. (It’s true. I smelled bloody lovely. Who doesn’t, in PoaL?) Which was sweet… until she continued with “it’s very different from your normal perfumes, it’s very pretty. Not mannish. And this one is called “lady”. It’s for women!”
Clearly I don’t have any sort of poker face, as she then flustered about trying to explain that women wear light and pretty florals, fresh! clean! fresh! pretty! Poor thing, I let her flap for way too long before I conceded that gosh, don’t people have different tastes! And wow, aren’t gender norms restrictive?! (She ran away that that point.)
I have a terrible urge to either douse myself in Fracas for tomorrow, or find the manliest-manly-man scent I own.
(p.s. Not a man. Just in case of any confusion.)
🙂
Big thumbs up and lol for “Manliest-manly-man scent”!! Please keep us updated!
I vote for the original Aramis. It smells like Burt Reynolds on a bearskin rug. ????
Haha I am totally picturing that scene right now…i cant decide if its good or bad. I guess both… ????
…oh but wait…there really is a pic of him..naked….on a bear pelt/skin ????
http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-17896980
Oh that picture is wonderful, and hilarious, and so so so 70s!
Hilarious! ????
PERFECT. The hairiest-chested perfume of all time.
Ha! I vote for some of each tomorrow and maybe she’ll be ready for the “gender is just a social construct” conversation after a good night’s sleep ????
Maybe you could wear Zoologist Beaver tomorrow and ask if that is “woman” enough for her?
HAHAHA!!!!! There are no appropriate emojis for how much that made me lol!!!
Perfect!
This has been giving me the giggles on, and off, since about 630 this morning 🙂
oh crap! LOLOL I almost dumped hot tea all over myself LOL
Jasmin Rouge lotion with Clive Christian X aka Spendy Rush. When I was first getting back into perfumes, my husband got me the CC travel set for Christmas, and I didn’t have the heart to tell him he got swindled. I do really enjoy No 1 and X but won’t replace them when they are gone!
“Spendy Rush” ha love it!! No. 1 is amazing also.
Are those bottles teeny tiny? I’ve been interested in that set but never pulled the trigger.
They are pretty small – just 10ml a piece!
I’ve come down with some sort of creeping crud, it started in my head and has now worked its way down to an annoying, hacking cough. At my age I figured I was immune to most bugs, but not this one. I’m drinking soup, taking ibuprofen, keeping warm, and I spritzed on the lovely Promesse de l’Aube.
Ugh…look after yourself and stay warm.
Th th th th th that cough is so tenacious. I am almost into my third week. I think I overdid it last week, which may have extended things, but golly I am NOT overdoing it this week and I am still coughing, tired, and achy, with itchy stinging eyes. Like you, I thought my snuffling coughing cold days were over!!!!
You smell lovely! I hope you feel better. Ugh, it took me weeks to get rid of that hacking cough.
I had the respiratory crud for nearly six weeks last fall. Hope you get better soon!
Bleah. Hope the crud goes away for you ASAP!
Found my Diaghilev happy day. Started the day Beloved and now two sprays of the Diaghilev.
You smell fabulous!
Diaghilev is soooo beautiful. Happy day, indeed!
Spritzed a bit of Lipstick On very early this morning and it’s close to disappearing. Not sure what will come next. I need to do some cooking, though, so perhaps nothing for now. Or maybe some Insolence.
Speaking of mornings, whilst making my 1st cup of the day the handle to my Bonavita kettle popped right off! It’s been loose for a while but I didn’t realize it was on its last legs. TG for amazon one-day shipping! I don’t really know how to do life anymore without my digital water kettle. Hopefully the newer version has a more stable handle…
And our 3rd bonavita is malfunctioning — not turning off when it reaches the proper temperature. I am thinking of switching brands even though they are probably all crap.
The computer on ours had started to go wonky but thus far has been okay if it’s unplugged to reset the computer occasionally. Hope the new one works…
Oh, very good to know, I will try that!
Shalimar EDC. Can’t stop sniffing myself.
I helped pick the underripe rejects off my grandfather’s large grapefruit tree, and I couldn’t believe the smell of the flowers. I hit wall of the neroli-like scent at about 10 feet away! It was glorious.
Citrus tree flowers are the best. I have a little tangerine tree in my backyard. It doesn’t really have much in the way of flowers yet, but when it does they smell amazing.
Ooh, that sounds nice! To be fair, our trees are blossoming now because it’s been near/at 90° here for a couple weeks already.
Those little grapefruit flowers are so incredibly potent! And beautiful! ???? ???? ????
They are definitely both of those! It makes the lack of scent from the native palo verde and mesquite trees very disappointing. ????
Had a doctor appointment this morning so went commando til I got home. And now I’m wearing the yummy and not-at-all springy Coromandel. The appointment went well, so I think she’s going to get me cleared for surgery next week.
Hope everything goes well for you and that you have a quick recovery ????????
You smell gorgeous and I’m glad everything seems to be lining up to get it sorted out asap. Look after yourself!
Glad it went well, sweetgrass.
Good to hear that today’s appointment went all right.
All my fingers and toes are crossed for you —
Glad to hear that, sweetgrass! I hope the surgery goes well, too, and you have a speedy recovery.
Thank you to everyone who posted “Heal quickly” wishes last night! The Advil was definitely enough for the discomfort yesterday, and I have only needed a couple of them today. Hopefully, I will be able to eat things other than soft food in the near future. Part of my mouth feels like I tried to eat a slice of pizza too soon, which is a LOT better than it was yesterday. The periodontist wants to see me in 3 weeks, just to check up on things.
SOTD = back in Burberry Brit Rhythm for Women, from my little sample. This definitely ticks the boxes for both “no-brainer” and soothing. Oh, and Spring-y as well.
Didn’t see your post yesterday, but did you have gum surgery? No fun, but survivable. I’ve done it twice with good results, although I certainly wouldn’t have done it if I didn’t need to! Best of luck!
Yes, I did. I had an excellent periodontist doing the procedure. It wasn’t as bad as a root canal, but I agree with you on not having to do it again if I don’t have to!
Oh my gosh I love that one! You smell awesome.
Thank you!
Glad you aren’t too uncomfortable. BBR is easy-peasy pretty.
I had a little bit of raspberry sorbetto for dinner, so things aren’t bad at all! ????
Gah, the dreaded too-hot pizza burn! (Always gets me on the roof of my mouth.) Glad you’re doing OK!
Oh, Robin, about the Prada Candy Sugar Pop… based on the magazine strip that I smelled recently, I’d say don’t go out of your way to sniff it. The original scent was much better.
I love the original Candy, but have a hard time making myself sniff the others based on name alone. “Candy Sugar Pop” just doesn’t sound like something I need in my life haha.
Thank you! I figured as much.
As mentioned prior, in Prada Oeillet today. Since I was in znordatrom, I sprayed more on.
Then, I did a quick pop into Lush on my way back to the car. Saw they had the Rose Jam body spray, so I did a blast to my neck/chest. For a body spray, it certainly is powerful. An hour later, and It seems just as strong. I resisted the impulse buy.
I still have not tried the body spray!
That stuff has ridiculous oomph for a body spray!
SOTD: Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere. Bracing and comforting at the same time. Perfect for a Friday at the end of a tough week of work.
Hope you can relax and re-group over the weekend, Lillibet.
Thank you! You too!
Long day at work! It’s officially the weekend for me so when I got home I sprayed numerous times with Vol de Nuit.
It must be good because my hubby says “did you spray something?”
I’m still training him..lol
Excellent choice—you smell great!
I’m in Jacques Zolty – Sparkling Sand (from a sample) & I like it. smells like summer, warm, dry sand, very pretty.
