Almost-Friday, plus the Ides of March. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: Hermès Eau des Merveilles, layered with Eau Claire des Merveilles.
Reminder: 3/16 will be Amber Friday...wear a fragrance with an amber note.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Hermès Ano Pigment Bracelet in lacquered wood is $360.
In Idole de Lubin today and halfway through overspraying this morning the atomiser stopped working. Grrrr!
I like your pic. Big fan of Legos
“Halfway through overspraying…” LOL
LOL! Hope you’re able to get it unstuck!
Sorry you are undersprayed! You do smell great anyway.
Grabbed my bottle of Shalimar and had 2 sprays since I had not worn it in ages. Two seconds later I started coughing uncontrollably. It is better now but just hoping I have not developed an allergy to it. It would be devastating 🙁
Allergic to Shalimar…the horror!
The death!
That would be terribly upsetting! But if you do develop an allergy, I know a good home for your Shalimar haha! 😀
I know how much you love Shalimar. Be sure that if that were the case the bottle with land on your hands! 😉
Maybe you just swallowed a fly or something? Lol, sorry, I sometimes think I’m funny ????
Lillyjo, you made me LOL! From the bottom of my heart I really, really hope I swallowed a fly instead of having an allergic reaction to it! 😀 😀
Maybe there was dust or some residue on the sprayer? Or maybe it activated something that needed to be clear that was already in your sinus passages? Let’s go with that, the alternative is too scary to contemplate ????
I hope so! The alternative is indeed scary! 8(
The coughing fit was clearly pure coincidence and caused by something Shalimar-unrelated. Persevere!! 😀
I strongly want to believe that. I will try again this weekend 🙂
Maybe you had the perfume equivalent of water going down the wrong pipe? (Does that make any sense?) Hope it was a temporary issue for you!
It makes sense. When I sprayed on it I also found it too smoky. I had not worn it in a long time and I think I had forgotten that Shalimar is a big one. 2 sprays it is too much for me these days. Next time I will have only one spray or dab it.
I love that layering, Robin! SOTD for me is Violet Blonde, after the little discussion here the other day about Tom Ford and his propensity for discontinuing All The Good Ones. 🙂
I second that…gorgeous layering combo Robin!
He can’t help it because he has to release MORE! (sorry, you guys know I am not his BFF)
Started off decidedly off-theme as I am considering more candidates for swapmeet (Puredistance I likely to be rehomed this weekend). On the other arm is a sample of Unum Lavs which has a tad of amber somewhere in it but which mostly taught me everything I need to know about Opponax.
Two of my very favorites! You smell amazing.
Oh, really? I recently bought a decant of Les Nereides Opoponax and while I quite like it, I have no idea what I’m smelling as it’s not a note I’ve ever focused in on.
I also had a sample of Unum Lavs, which taught me that I have zero response to incense-forward perfumes 😉 I’ve never been inside or anywhere near a church (or temple or dojo or etc) where incense was burned. My only incense connection is to hippy types who burned Nag Champa.
There’s something about Nag Champa though! 😉
The Lavs description on fragrantica says that Opponax — which is apparently meant to be Opopanax (thanks for the correction!) — is the scent of the myrrh. I immediately associated it with Jardins D’Ecrivains Marlowe which was a blind buy that I regretted as too challenging. The myrrh came across to me as a cold almost menthol feeling; my notes on Marlowe called it “cola.” The Lavs grew on me today and I will be trying it again, and will definitely be keeping this sample for reference.
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Unum/Lavs-29991.html
I would never have categorized Lavs as an “incense” since it’s not smoky or incense-y to me at all! Also not especially “churchy” (not like, say, the feeling I got from more than one Areej Le Dore as an extreme example). I guess Kafka really liked the Les Néréides – not one I’d heard of!
You italicized! How does one do that here? Html commands? Hmmmm!
Yaaaaaaaay it worked! I had no idea that html commands worked here! (Yes, I’ll stop now.)
Who KNEW?!?
😀
SOTD Maria Candida Gentile which is sorely neglected (though I tend to wear it more in the summer). Ambered incense goodness!
Sounds nice. Which MCG is this?
Oops! Sideris!
Ah! I thought it might be Sideris. I do not get amber from it – but resins there may be sort of ambery. I do not wear it often enough.
You smell great!
Thank you! I really love it when I wear it. I always think of this as an amber since the backdrop to me smells strongly of labdanum/benzoin, maybe a little vanilla. It reminds me a lot of Ambre 114 in that powdery amber kinda way with added incense and some other stuffs.
You smell incensy-good!
Thank you ????
ElisaP, were you the one that bought and liked Idylle Love Blossom? If so, thank you! I did a blind buy and it’s lovely. Now I’m wondering how the Duet Jasmine-Lilac one is (but it’s not as cheap unfortunately).
Yes! I love it. I think it will be the only bottle I’ll have finished in many moons. Glad you like it! I’m curious about the others, also. The Sublime seems to be the easiest flanker to find and I’m curious about that one, too.
SOTD is Hermessence Ambre Narguile. House twins with Robin.
Ambre Nargile is delicious. You smell fabulous. I should have thought to wear it yesterday for Pi/Pie Day, it reminds me of apple tart.
I sprayed some on my hand the other day (had it out for amber week) and I get 100% spiced cider. It is fun, but I can’t get past the Halloween association, so October is the only time it feels *right* to me.
Incidentally, I was at a sephora yesterday sampling and thought about getting one of Givenchy Pi for my H, but didn’t. It was only hours later that I realized a Pi sample on Pi day would’ve been perfect!
HaHa, yes, Pi for Pi Day would have been hilariously perfect. 😀
Iris Ukiyoe today, from my new bottle. It’s faint but very calming. Love it!
Beautiful! Iris Ukiyoe was the first Hermessence I tried. It was love at first sniff.
Nice! You smell like spring 🙂
I plan one day to be the owner of a travel spray of this!
AG Ambre Fetiche – a beautiful amber and not too dark and rich for spring, at least to my nose.
I wore that yesterday and got so many compliments when I was out and about
I tried a new layering today after reading the interview with Christine Nagel yesterday, a musc oil layered with Kenzo Elephant, I really like the result.
Have a happy week
sounds good! What kind of musk oil did you use? I was curious to learn about the ritual of putting some dabs of musc oil on as done in the Middle East and Europe – I’m familiar with pre-layering with oil or moisturizer – just not targeted musk oil on wrists and the nape of the neck – it sounds very romantic .
I’d like to know, too. I feel like I need some musc oil in my life.
Me too me too!
I used Sabon musk oil
Is it available locally for purchase in Mtl or did you buy it elsewhere?
They used to have a store in Montreal but not anymore, I bought mine in New York
Thanks, I placed an online order.
OK – I’m ordering some – I may or may not drop a few cardamom pods in it ????
If you’re interested in splitting that bottle, let me know!
a cal der aio
to the land of
Geeeee male
Thanks!
MP&G’s Ambre Précieux today, a rich elegant beautiful Amber for anyone afraid to try Amber this is the one that changed my mind. It is so perfectly proportioned that it can never make a bad impression. Also something you wear for comfort as well as elegance. It what you reach for when you want to smell perfect.
Yes to all of this! You smell amazing!
I’m saving mine for tomorrow. You smell great!
Good morning Y’all….
Wearing Poopoo Pidoo! YAY!!! Love it love it love it. Bring on the rice notes….
Yay! Your birthday present, right?
Yes indeed! Happy to have it at last! I’m finding that one spray is perfect for daytime/office (total skin scent with one spray), and a couple more sprays amps it up in the evening.
I’m also fascinated at the difference between being sprayed and my dabber sample. Much more musky depth when sprayed…
I pulled that one out to wear this winter but have yet to do so. I guess I’d better get on it 😉
Sotd is Le Labo Labdanum 18. The One that started it all.
Today is my Friday and I’ve got a 5 day weekend starting tomorrow. I’m really looking forward to it!
Enjoy your long weekend!
Nice weekend!
Woo hoo to a long weekend!
Wearing Ramon Monegal’s Ambra di Luna
I have so many ambers to play with this week 🙂
Me too! I can do 2 weeks..
You smell lovely, Robin! I’m in L’Ambre des Merveilles. 🙂
You smell wonderful!
Merveilles twins! 😉
Nice, that will be me tomorrow.
I am wearing Hermes Galop today and drinking a cup of Earl Grey tea.
Today, I am having lunch with my godchild who is on spring break. So happy to see and talk to her today 🙂
You smell great. Have fun with your godchild today!
That’s wonderful. Enjoy your lunch.
And yes to Hermes! 😀
Mmm…Galop…you smell great!
Reminiscence Ambre today
Did I mention I am really enjoying my week of Amber perfumes…
Thanks for all the sunblock recommendations yesterday..I have so many to try <3
I am also grateful for the sunblock suggestions. I prefer mineral sunscreen and my favorite from the Neutrogena sensitive skin line is getting hard to find.
Have you tried Invisible Zinc? it’s an Australian brand, mineral and really great.
https://invisiblezinc.com/
Had not heard of Invisible Zinc, thank you for the suggestion! I will look for it.
I use Retin-A and have sensitive skin, I love La Roche Posay Anthelios Tinted Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50, the tint looks natural, it’s lightweight and absorbs easily. I just got a bottle online for 25% off on their friends & family sale.
Another lightweight sunscreen I adore is Missha’s All Around Safe Block SPF 50/PA+++, it’s lightweight, moisturizes and my skin glows, it’s also a nice primer for under foundation.
I was searching for Rem Amber early today and not finding it anywhere except their NY shop, or I think it was there. Has it been discontinued? I didn’t want a full bottle but was hoping for eBay, etc.
I can spare some, let me know
How sweet. ???? But I discovered that I can get a decant from Perf Court and promptly ordered.
Their prices on Reminiscence frags are really good, and they also always show up in the 40% off promo TPC often runs (Out With the Old, or something like that?) I recently bought Tonka and Musc for a song.
Yes to the sunblock! The good part about sunblock is that I’m able to actually finish them! Though I do always end up with a whole stash of new tubes waiting to be opened. It’s such a pleasure to be able to squeeze the last bit out and toss one in the trash.
It’s such a pleasure to finish anything at all!
I love Reminiscence Ambre, might wear that one tomorrow!
Also house twins with Robin. I’m wearing L’Ambre des Merveilles.
Smelling great!
Beautiful! Your sotd is on my list for Friday.
And me, so we are future twins!
The NY Times article yesterday got me thinking about Hermes Twilly, and remembering how peppy it was. When I woke up this morning (way too early) I decided that was exactly what the doctor ordered, and pulled out my sample. Peppy indeed!
Smelling great! Twilly is on my list to try again. I like ginger and tuberose.
I do too, I just wish there were a bit more going on in this if you know what I mean. Still, sometimes a fragrance that smells fun and stays exactly the same all day is just what you want 🙂
Your EdM is probably the fragrance I wear more than any other. Always a good choice!
EdM is in my all time top 3 most worn scents. 😀 We are bond of some excellent scents!
**fond** not bond, d’oh!
SotD = Eau des Merveilles! It’s been too long.
Gosh that Hermes bracelet is pretty. I don’t so much go for leather goods anymore, but beautifully crafted wood? Sign me up.
Yesterday was super busy and that energy has somehow hung onto me. I woke very early this morning, browsed the blogs, and found the Black Narcissus posted an interesting story about the new Hermessence scents. He is fascinating.
The Origami scent mentioned yesterday on NST made me smile. Perfume names that directly reference the arts and handcrafts are clever.
And I stumbled upon this wonderful hinoki wood and glass tool for making pickles. I must make some pickles soon.
http://www.spoon-tamago.com/2018/03/14/picklestone-a-fun-and-beautiful-way-to-make-pickles/
I loooooove homemade pickles!
Yes! to homemade pickles. They are easy and delicious. I have a friend who makes them too and we swap pickles sometimes. She also makes a very mild kimchi that I adore.
I love to make all kinds of homemade pickles too! I made some spicy carrot pickles last year that everyone went crazy for! And don’t get me started on how much I love kimchi ha!
Oh that’s a really neat tool. Makes me want to pickle something.
Yes, haha, I want to make pickles too. I looked in my veggie bin this morning and only came up with carrots and cabbage, but they might work.
Pickled carrots are tasty. I’ve had them in escabeche at Mexican restaurants.
Now cabbage.. I wonder if you could make sauerkraut with this thing?
yummy, those pickled carrots, with the jalapeno peppers, so good!
I have a recipe for pickled carrots! And they are so good!
That is so beautiful, but I’m pretty sure my mom would have a heart attack if she saw the price. She taught me to make pickles in empty store-bought pickle jars.
It’s beautiful but yes, whoa-nelly on the price.
I’m the same way with saving empties. My mum is the reason I save pickle jars and jam jars too. 😀
I really need to try pickling. I love pickled things and pickles especially. I tried to teach my husband the joy of adding chopped kosher dills to his cottage cheese.
that pickle stone looks great – I wonder if there are perhaps others on the market – looks like it could be an etsy type thing, no?
oh yum, that sounds good. I love Bubbies kosher dill pickles.
I love their Bread & Butter pickles.
oh yes, I’m going to the fridge now for some Bubbies b&b pickles, right out of jar. SO GOOD.
I love to add chopped kosher dills and green olives with pimentos to my cottage cheese. Delish!
I like that bracelet too. And pickles.
All day I’ve been tempted to check if that bracelet comes in other colors, but so far I’ve resisted. 😀
Then I won’t tell you!
Lancome Tubereuses Castane
I want this just for the name alone.
You smell beautiful!
Devil’s Nightcap for today. SO animalic…I often don’t wear it, but it’s working well (also am alone in office today so can’t disturb anyone else.)
That is QUITE the name…. (scurries off to google).
That perfume name almost gave me an earworm this afternoon even though the Beck song has a different title.
Long day of tedious meetings today, so aspirational perfuming: Joy vintage extrait, layered with Joy EDT.
You will be making your presence known!!! I love Joy and don’t wear it enough. (lol that can be read many ways!)
You smell like someone who knows how to get things done!
Ha, perfect!!
That bracelet at the top is cool, and given that it’s Hermes, the price doesn’t even seem that shocking.
I’m wearing Diptyque Volutes today. Not amber but yum nonetheless.
I had the same thought on the bracelet!
Ha, it is sad but after posting so many crazy Hermes things, I thought it wasn’t that bad either.
But really, it is! It’s a piece of painted wood!
I’m wearing my favorite amber perfume Ombre Mercure.
That was the best one in the TdGunzberg collection, so obviously the first to be discontinued.
Yes, they always discontinue the best ones.
In Aroma M Geisha Noire. I love this one SO much. So glad I participated in the split. I will send up owning a FB at some point.
Ok, I have to know, is there a ton of insence or heavily animalic? Because I’m lemming bad, and those 2 things might make me stop.
Noooo, I don’t think so at all! Do you like Shalimar? It reminds me of it. It’s warm and sexy and a little powdery to me. Just perfect. Now, mind you, I have the EdP not the oil. But I think you’d like it.
Thanks! Between you and ElisaP, I’m sold. I really need to stop reading so many other opinions. Sometimes I think people just like to “talk” even when they don’t know what they are talking about. (About more than just perfume too)
So true, unfortunately. But it is exactly as kpaint describes below and I do think a must-try for any Shalimar fan! I think it’s super sultry, though, so be ready ha!
Chiming in to agree with KellyC. To me it smells like Shalimar minus the skank; perhaps more complex, and with a very vintage sensibility. To my mind, it’s a must-try for Shalimar fiends (or fans.)
Totally agree.
Thanks for the imput. I don’t find Shalimar skanky really. So this is good to know!
IT smells a lot like Habanita to me, quite powdery.
I like cosmetic type powder, baby powder, not so much. I’m not familiar with Habanita.
Joining you in this beauty courtesy of a sample from hajusuuri.
You guys are right, it is similar to Shalimar; one of my favorites. We smell great!
At lunch I went out with a friend for a quick Walmart run to buy my hubby some facial cleanser and came away with a huge bag of Cadbury mini-eggs (for Easter of course!)
You smell fab!
Feeling a bit sassy today, so I’m wearing Angel. It took me so long to be able to wear it well. Back in the nineties, I worked the perfume counter at my store, and a women would come in and just smell the box and smile. She never bought it, but seeing her love for it, made me want to experience it the way she did. The only perfume I can think of having that feeling for is Original Fendi ( RIP) anyway, happy to finally being able to wear Angel.
The tiny bit that leaks out of a sealed box is just about the ONLY way I can truly enjoy Angel. 🙂
Same here!
LOL!
I love Angel, but only apply just one spritz, that’s the only way I can wear it.
I’m with you on feeling joyful about Fendi, it’s one I truly adore and there’s always a moment of swooning after I apply.
2nding both (except I dab Angel.)
I started out dabbing, and am now up to 3 spritzes. To be fair though, Angel is not the same beast anymore.
I’m only familiar with the recent formulation. I could probably handle spritzing but only have it in a mini. 😉
I think you smell great!
You smell amazing!
I followed a woman around a store once and mustered up the courage to ask what she was wearing. It was Angel!! ????
I actually think it smells better when I smell it on other people. But a lot of perfumes are like that for me.
SOTD is Annick Goutal’s Musc Nomade layered with a touch of L’ Artisan’s Patchouli Patch. I oversprayed a little bit…. 😛
Over spray away…
It’s the only way to apply!
Well my office sure smells good! Powder, musk and patchouli! Woot! 🙂
Yummmm!
Nice idea, must try that combo.
House twins with Robin today, in vintage Rouge Hermès parfum. Many thanks to a generous NSTer for this glorious gem. I will be huffing my wrist all day, I can tell!
How nice 🙂
I finally found an amber in my collection – albeit a sample – that isn’t too heavy for the spring-like weather we’re having this week: Hermes Eau de Mandarine Ambree. This is really lovely, and a perfect balance between light, warm amber, and juicy citrus, and the passionfruit note keeps it from the sweeter territory of Elixir des Merveilles (which I also own). I find it far more versatile than the other citrus scents (Eau de Neroli Dore and Eau de Orange Verte) in the Colognes Hermes collection. I am definitely jonesing for a 15 ml travel bottle of this!
Oh nice, I forgot that one!!
Looking at testing vintage Dioressence today. I normally don’t test something while I’m at work but I need to try something different.
And? Like?
In Montale Blue Amber. Opening is the worst – harsh, chemical and unpleasant. 5 minutes later it settles in a beautiful mellow amber. go figure 🙂
I love Blue Amber, but you’re right in how intense that first blast is, though I wouldn’t say I find it unpleasant. However, the last time I wore it, I immediately freaked out at how strong and heavy it was to wear into work. Thought I might have to wash it off, but no one said a word to me about my perfume, thank goodness.
I thought about wearing it this week but didn’t think it was a good idea to tempt fate a second time.
Yes, the opening is difficult but I love the drydown.
You guys, I smell sooo good. After Aparatchik posted about Ava Luxe Ambra Tibet yesterday, I knew I had to dig out my sample. I hesitated because I thought it might be too much for work (I still think it might be), but once I lifted the cap to smell it, I knew I would spray it anyway. This is a quintessential amber perfume to me. I think Ava Luxe makes some of the best ambers I’ve smelled.
I have to explore Ava Luxe products.
Maybe we can explore together as I have not even smelled any from this line. I’m still miffed that my email to them never got acknowledged.
I emailed a few times a few years ago and never got a response either.
I have been a fan of Ava Luxe for a long time. Her No. 23 is among my all time favorite perfumes. It has, sadly, been discontinued. I think I’ve got an Ambra Tibet sample somewhere, though; I’ll have to dig it out and revisit.
No. 23 is really good. I’m glad I still have half a 30ml bottle left. The others I’m super sad got discontinued are Hong Kong Garden and Midnight Violet.
SOTD is Tom Ford Amber Absolute. Oh this is good stuff.
I think I may continue Amber Week until I’ve gone thru every last one of my ambers. Heh, wonder how long that will take….
Dooooo it! Amber week is so fun!
You will be busy for a while 🙂
That is my #1 amber. Someday I hope to get a bottle. There’s a guy selling a decanter bottle for $1000 on ebay but that is TOO MUCH (perfume and $$).
Why not the 50mLs? I got mine at LuckyScent when it was revived about 2 years ago.
There is a 50 ml bottle on ebay… for $415! Not willing to pay that much.
It is discontinued again, btw.
Twins! I also wore Amber Absolute.
In 2016 I did a project – NovAmber: I wore a new amber scent every day of the month. It was great 🙂
SotD is Angelique.
I love it! Too bad its very soft and sheer and after a few hours it’s almost gone 🙁
But I only applied two sprays, maybe that’s why….?
It is same way for me. You need to use hajuusuri method – 8 sprays 😉
???? thanks I will try the Hajuusuri method next time
(that’ll probably drain my whole sample haha)
I’m a big fan of the hajuusuri method!
LOL, I think 8 may be too much – this is a 5-spray perfume.
Definitely more sprays!
Testing Van Cleef & Arpels Bois Dore today. It’s supposed to be woody but to me it’s a cuddlefluffy tonka with vanilla and only a small hint of woods.
Oooh, this does sound worth trying!
It didn’t shake my world. It’s pleasant and wearable 🙂
I love Ambre Dore, you smell great!
I mean Bois Dore!
Name another fragrance with Dore in name 😉
Novaya Zarya makes an Ambre Dore!
Sounds very pleasant 🙂
I really like the clean lines and color of that bracelet. It wouldn’t work with my jeans and flannels shirts, but still…
Still wearing Chypre Mousse from yesterday. Still going strong, too. Money well spent! ???????? I very kind perfumista sent me a box bursting with goodies, so after chores and shower I think I may try Slow Dive.
I have a whole list of chores to do today, which I’m not looking forward to. Yesterday was beautiful, so I went up to Portland to meet with a super nice guy who has a trailer like the one I’m considering. Pretty sure I’ve narrowed it down to which manufacturer, now a whole list of options and what size to order?! Decisions, decisions…
Another thing on the agenda is to go cull my perfumes. My little storage area is getting tight, so I may have to send a few bottles out into the universe to get some love.
I think the bracelet would look nice with a grey plaid flannel.
Remove the lacquer from the bracelet and you’re GTG! 😉
Best combo, Robin!
I’m wearing Juicy Couture parfum today, it is warm and clean and humongous in the good 80s way. I don’t think the edt/edp smells as good as this does, it smells like Real Perfume!
Original JC is underatted in my opinion. I like to wear it in the summer.
And I never tried the Parfum, glad to hear it is good stuff.
Big realization this week: I hardly have any amber perfumes! Have I been avoiding them? I love Coco, and that’s what I’m wearing today.
Smelling great!
Coco has been meeting all of your Amber needs and more 🙂
New Softies beware because I’m wearing a scent fit for an Old Toughie: Glamour Yeti. Ambergris and ginger. And thanks for the interesting post about ambergris in baking yesterday.
“old toughie” – I love it! 🙂
Ambers going strong here (and the weather is cooperating with rain and more rain) – SOTD is Parfums de Nicolai Amber Oud. I think some reviewer who loved it very much compared it to lavender ice cream and I can see that – in any case, husband sniffed the air and asked “is that a Harry Lehmann?” (perfume by weight store in Berlin that he’s very nostalgic for). So I may have found a scent for him to replace Terre d’Hermes once it’s used up! Although I still want to follow up on Robin’s eau de sport suggestion as well. Happy Thursday!
Perfume by weight? What is perfume by weight? And why does it sound so incredibly appealing?
I’m imagining a salad bar of scents…. Pile up the platter and go weigh it for your final price.
Here’s a review of the store in English on fragrantica:
https://www.fragrantica.com/news/Harry-Lehmann-A-Vintage-Scent-Heaven-in-Berlin-9440.html
Basically, the perfume is sold by volume, and it’s in these big glass balloon bottles. It’s fun, but I never found a scent I really loved. That may be due to my inability to try perfume in a store without going slightly nuts!
What an amazing place. But how would you decide on what to get ?
You can sample everything.
You smell incensy-good!
So sorry… This was meant for ElisaP. I have no idea how this posted here…
Hello! Wearing No. 19 today, which I know tells you all something about how my work week is going. Looking forward to amber tomorrow.
You smell like a bad-ass in the best way possible!
No 19 will sort them/it out! Plus you smell lovely!
No. 19 is a cuirass.
Thanks to everyone for the sympathy earlier this week. The past few have been tough but you are all so lovely and generous.
Wearing Suede de Suede today. Not on theme, but I love it.
Sorry to hear that you’ve been going through a tough patch. Sending my best your way.
I missed your original post, but sending you positive soothing vibes.
I’m wearing Chergui today. This perfume seems to work for many of the community projects and I love it!
Lovely scent!
You smell great! Chergui is a work horse ????????
W00t! I may repeat this. I love me my ambers!
Gorgeous bracelet! Right up my ally, but not my wallet.
SOTD: Bottega Veneta
Freezing downtown NYC today; the wind is out of control.
Definitely taking advantage of that Twisted Lily 20% off sale and finally getting a travel size of Moon Bloom. 🙂
You smell wonderful!
Wait! What TL 20% off?!? Did I miss and email?? ????
Yes! It’s also under NST PSA.
I thought it was only bath & body products?
That was what I thought too. I must check it out!
Oops. Yes, the ad on NST is just for bath & body, but I also got an email ad for 20% off everything.
Maybe check your emails?
Hey, just to clarify, that is not an ad — it’s just a code I got from being on their regular email list. If there’s another code, you are more than welcome to post it under that article, or here, for this store or any store.
Please post the code you got by email so everyone can take advantage!
I like the bracelet, too, and have one that’s similar but silver (colored metal, probably zero real silver content) and cost about $25 😉
No amber for me (other than Old Spice Amber anti-perspirant) since I just grabbed a sample from the bag I brought with me to CA.
Kelly Caleche, which is often my go-to travel scent, since I bought a pack of 20 travel sprays rather than a bottle….
I don’t have a lot of amber in my scents, which is odd since I quite like its richness. If I were at home, I’d probably be spraying the Old Spice Amber body spray just for fun.
Hey, that’s still amber! And there is probably some in KC too.
Coin-op here, live from Nordstrom…just sampled TF Noir de Noir on my left hand, and Le Labo Iris 39 on my right….iris 39 wins!
Oops, should have tried some Ambers… Maybe I will go back 🙂
Yep, turn around! ????
Oops! I’ll have to go back ????
I wish my local Nordstrom has Le Labo!
Well I don’t have a local Nordstrom, but KOP is the closest.
I’ve never smelled any LeLabo! I smelled: iris 39, jasmine 17, laudanum 18, Lys 41, Santal 33
And??? What did you think? Inquiring minds want to know! ????
Well, since you must know ☺️ Of those five, my favorites were Iris 39 and Jasmine 17
Iris 39 seemed super refined to me – I immediately liked it, and later on I think I smelled some doll head – which I generally like. Overall it seems like an iris version of agent provocateur. Later, I read the reviews on fragrantica and the consensus seems to be fairly different from my first impressions.
I really liked Jasmine 17! Jasmine can be tricky for me – unfortunately, some commercial toilet cleaner producers seem to have nailed certain white tropical flowers in their compositions, and sadly, I have spent too much time around industrial toilets, and not flowering bushes in the tropics. But this was lovely.
I will have to revisit Labdanum 18.
I did not care for Lys 41 or Santal 33 at first sniff.
Disclosure! These are just first impressions!
Last weekend I stopped by my local Nordstrom (it’s tiny!), and suddenly noticed several Le Labo testers behind the counter. I asked my friendly SA, and she said they had it for some clients who asked for it but they weren’t sure if they would carry it in the store. Of course, I immediately had to make myself 5 samples: all those that I’ve never got to testing on skin because I liked them less than others.
Nice! Hey if you don’t ask you don’t get
Rather liking the bracelet today. And I was shocked at the price… it seems kind of reasonable for Hermes. ????
SOTD = Au Coeur du Desert, inspired by several folks who have worn this earlier in the week. I had it pegged as incense, but surprise! It’s also an amber.
It took me a while to find amber in the original, but once I found it, it’s unmistakably there.
Spot on with the bracelet. I must admit that, at first glance, it looked like a neck brace.
Giggles… ????
hee-hee, that bracelet does have a medical green color. All day I have wondered if it comes in other colors, like Hermes orange, but so far have kept myself from looking.
Autumn is here! It’s cool but not cold and there’s the oromise of rain in the air. The European street trees are on the turn and the kate roses are falling and leaving colourful rosehips behind. *sighs happily*
SOTD: Sycomore EdP

Oh, that sounds so lovely!
Spent the morning smelling a bit of this and a bit of that – Chanel Gabrielle, Bottega Veneta Eau Sensuelle, Montale Amandes Orientales and Sweet Oriental Dream – and reading a bit of this and a bit of that. Ended up scanning an article panning fruitchoulis, which made me crave Midnight Poison, so that’s what I settled on for the day.
Happy almost-Friday!
???? gotta stay open minded! I’ve had to admit to myself that I like fruitchoulis, and I like patchouli & rose, and patchouli & iris – just discovered this today with Iris 39!
Sampling on my arms, wearing Tauer’s When We Cuddle scent on my chest. Just got a sample pack from Twisted Lily so I think I’ll scrub and start over. 🙂
Do tell!
So I am testing five of the Heretic Perfumes: Blood Cedar, Holi Water, Coeur Noir, Jasmine Smoke and Smudge. I had read some unflattering comments about the perfumer and the scents so my expectations weren’t super high, but I find all of them pleasant and wearable. I think Holi Water and Coeur Noir are my top two but I’d like to try the rest of them.
SOTD + Dior Mitzah
Oh my word! Fantastic does not even begin to describe how wonderful the fragrance is.
You know how it is not advisable to wear holey socks or underwear in case something happened and you needed to remove your shoes or God forbid you needed to have your clothes cut off due to an emergency? Well, you might want to think about what you leave at work, just in case you suddenly could not to back to your workplace to retrieve your belongings and need someone to pack them up to send them home.
To be continued in another comment since my train stop is coming up ….
Hopefully you did not leave any unmentionables in your desk ? …
Nope, read on below…
Sounds slightly ominous…

Perfumes? Pffft, that’s nothing.
No, it wasn’t me. Someone needed to have his belongings sent to his home. Besides the usual stuff (cans of Red Bull, shoe horns, for example), he had 6 pairs of what looked like high end Italian leather shoes, each shined to a high gloss and stored with a wooden shoe form insert. Talk about a shoe fetish and whatever that could mean, if I ever see him again, I don’t think I can look him in the eye because I would be too busy looking at his shoes.
At least they were men’s shoes…
Good point! ????
ROTFLMAO ????????????
Ahhhh hahahaha!!! Too funny. This reminds me of my working days before kids…we had to fire a girl and found packets of ketchup, mustard, bbq sauce, etc. in her desk drawer. I’m talking So. Many. Packets. Whaaaaa???
I think the person might be just a shopaholic who buys shoes and hides them from his wife 🙂
Late to the party. Not too many ambers that I can wear to the office, but working from home today. Finally decided on my sample of Agonist Isis. Gorgeous citrus up top, then spices, then amber. Love!
I’ve been intrigued by Isis for awhile. It sounds lovely.
Wow this week has been awesome, I have been going through samples like crazy! Yesterday, drained a really old one of Amber Narguile (either it went off or my nose/taste has really changed, but it seemed really tame) and MdO Amber- a solid like but I can live without it. Then dabbed on some Grand Soir. Wore more of it today and oh my gosh, I love this one. It’s a little treasure that has been sitting there unloved for so long. How much have a spent on other junk in the meantime?!?!?! ????
