It's Tuesday, National Cassoulet Day and National Apricot Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing the original Marni, for the January 2015 project "Wear a fragrance from Prada or perfumer Daniela Andrier". Tea at the moment is Upton Bond Street English Breakfast.
Reminder: on 1/12, we're doing Rinse, repeat...pick a favorite community project from the past, and do it again. (If you need a reminder, here are the lists for 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Marni Girl's Teapot Tote ("Yellow and white tote bag featuring a red tea pot print on the front with a spots and stripes design. The back features a blue and white background with a stick trees print and stripe pattern. Black strap handles.") is £70.80 at Cloudo Kids.
Good morning all! Sadly I caught a second child right after getting rid of the first. I feel a little better today, but not by much.
I picked Chamade EdT. My bottle is fromthe early 90’s, i believe. It starts sharp and green but melts into a seductive floral dry-down. Truly magical (and lasts all day!)
Stay warm, my Nothern Hemisphere friends!
I sometimes wish I could catch a second child! I’m about to get rid of (i.e. send back to college for the spring semester) my first and I miss him already.
Hahahaha! I meant cold! Blast. 🙂
Maybe my favorite typo of all time! Hahahaha!
It’s up there with the best of them.
Happy to help! 😉
Haha best typo ever, i hope youll recover soon from you second child 😉
Awwwww.
I’ve still got Kid #2 in the house until he goes back to college Friday morning, and I’m feeling lucky about it.
I have a sick second child ????
And you smell great- Chamade is wonderful.
Oh yes!
Great autocorrect! But yuck about the second cold in a row. I feel you as I still have lingering congestion. You smell wonderful and I hope you can shake that nuisance quickly!
I didn’t know how I missed that one! What’s worse is having just run through all of my OTC medicines, I had to buy it all again! Chamade is definitely helping me out today.
That typo just about made me snort out loud with laughter. Love it!
Ha! Thanks!
I just discovered Chamade for the 1st time a week ago….it’s BEAUTIFUL!!!! Congratulations on the 2nd child! LOL 🙂
Where did you discover it Jaida? It’s on my to try list – but not sure if I can find it in person instead.
I ordered it from FragranceNet…..I allowed myself a “small order” at Christmas…for me! LOL!
Here’s the link. I paid $38…
https://www.fragrancenet.com/perfume/guerlain/chamade/edt#289743
Thanks! good to know you enjoy the currently available edt version too….if you ordered a tester, did it come with it’s lid?
Also – looks like Fragrancenet.com has a 37% off sale, yikes!
I paid the extra $5 for the cap! LOL! Sometimes I don’t care a bit (I order testers if it’s a cheaper fragrance/brand), but I wanted my Guerlain to have its’ cap…..
I bought a tester of Insolence EdP. Big mistake. That bottle is fugly without context.
Insolence is a perfect example of a bottle that really needs its cap! LOL! 🙂 I admit I’m as much a fan of beautiful bottles as I am the scent in many cases…..
Wait, they charge extra for a cap (for a tester bottle)? I’ve not seen that before.
Depending on the brand, I don’t buy the tester, but go for the regular bottle. Just depends on what I’m ordering! I will buy a tester if I don’t care about the bottle….
I’m curious to try the new one versus my vintage! I feel guilty every time I push the atomizer.
You smell great! This auto correct is funny ! It’s right up there with the Tom Tomato lipstick color, lol !
Tom tomato is my favorite Red
It is such a pretty color. I’ve worn it a lot since purchasing it last September.
Awesome typo! Get well soon, Coumarin!
I had to reread that multiple times. Too funny.
Those children can be slippery- good catch! ????????
Oh gosh, I got in after what felt like an endless day and read this. Am sitting here laughing out loud at all the responses????
I am continuing with my Uncle Serge repeat week from 2014.
Encens et Lavande. I smell like cold clean lavender and wafting smoke.
I wonder how it compares to Gris Clair, which I love.
Sorry – I have never tried GC, so I cannot help.
The EL is a great scent, but not a clean lavender. The smoke note really sets it off well.
You smell great, hannahmom! Hope the temperatures are getting milder where you are!
They are indeed – it is actually raining !!!!
yay!
Jumping into the lavender conversation here. Last night I tested Jersey, another lavender. Slightly powdery and slightly soapy (aldehydes?). I loved it for the 5 minutes it lasted 🙁
I need to try this one! I should make a list of things to try when I go to Paris this spring. Mmmm it sounds great.
Day 2 of 9/16 Harvest Moon Friday: wear a fragrance with a nut or grain note.
SOTD is L`Artisan Parfumeur Noir Exquis (chestnut). It is sweet and nutty at the start, but the dry-down is coffee and burnt wood on me. Somewhat similar to Mancera Aoud Cafe at that stage. I wish the chestnut, vanilla and citrus stage lasted longer.
Oh that sounds like something I’d like! I wore LAP Bois Farine yesterday. It opens with a crazy peanut butter note.
Bois Farine is on my list for this week!
Though I have 14 scents for the chosen theme (a bit surprised there are so many), so maybe it won’t make it. But I root for it! I get almonds and flour.
I’m doing the Big White Floral poll in Ubar.
Indeed you are winning the Big Floral poll 🙂
More Chanel: Cristalle Vert
My morning started out with my tea pot lid breaking into bits in the sink. Anyone know of place that sells ceramic replacement lids?
Oh no. I hope you find a good replacement!
Oh no, I’m so sorry!
Try http://www.replacements.com if you’re trying to match a china pattern….They are awesome!
I looked at that one, but nothing for me! Thanks for your suggestion
Bummer on the teapot lid.
you smell lovely, but that stinks about your lid – what was the brand of pot?
TAG
It was this teapot http://pg.b5z.net/get/ib5z/s1000-*/zirw/1/i/u/1019233/i/ec/206139_elephant_teapot.jpg
Currently I can’t find any more online..
So cute!
Maybe take the pot to Marshalls or a restaurant supply store, see if you can find a lid that works, and share the lid between two pots?
I think i may of found a replacement on amazon, its glass but whatever does the trick
such an adorable teapot. I hope the replacement works 🙂
What a shame! it’s so cute. At least you found a replacement.
arrgghh. That’s frustrating! Hope you can find some type of replacement.
Some other folks have already suggested what came to my mind, which is a restaurant supply store. Good luck with your search.
I’m wearing VP Rozy just because I love it.
As do I. Her scents suit me to a T
I tried Rozy (the edp version) last week and was surprised at how much I disliked it. I was not expecting that reaction at all, but it was rather horribly animalic on me over two different trials so it’s just not going to work out. It’s probably my skin, because it’s quite clearly a well-done scent.
I have the VDE version but loved the EDP as well. Definitely animalic though.
The edp’s have that passionfruit note added to them that can make them skanky. I do not like any of the edps for that reason.
Greetings everyone! My new years resolution is to make more time for my hobbies, so since this is my premiere hobby, I need to get over here more often! SOTD is Chanel Coco edp. I don’t know what past theme I am repeating, but I am sure it qualifies for one of them. Cheers!!
Mmm, Coco is heaven! You smell great.
Coco! A beauty! You smell fantastic!
Coco is very beautiful ☺
you smell great! There has probably been “wear a channel” project i imagine?
Maybe you’re doing the “wear one of the best smelling perfumes ever” project.
I made the same resolution: Make more time for hobbies and such!
Chanel theme..thats what I am doing this week
Nice theme!
Flashing back to 10/02/2015 for Best Buy Friday in Encre Noire by Lalique. Only $25.00 for 3.3 ounces of vetiver perfection.
I hear there is an Ombré Noire on the way but may only be available in Middle East countries??? A challenge but I can do it. ????????????
What a steal!!
I’m wearing L’Artisan Parfumeur Tea for Two. I got this in a Swapmeet a year or so ago. I didn’t love it at first but it’s really grown on me.
You smell great. I tried on TfT at Merz Apothecary in Chicago and had a similar experience. At first I didn’t think it was for me, but then I couldn’t stop sniffing my arm.
Me third
What do you not like about it? I bought it as a leftover floor sample. I love the notes listed, but together they seem odd to me but I can’t explain why.
There’s a strong clove note that used to put me off but I’ve grown fond of it.
Same has happened to me. I went in on a split a few years ago and hardly touched it and now I can’t imagine not having it. It’s really beautiful and lasts a good long time.
Yay! I love it when that happens.
You guys smell great. Not buying this one at Winners for cheap when I first started in this hobby is one of my perfume regrets.
I’m early this morning! Starting my Layered Friday (from 2015) project today with Eau Duelle + Kiehl’s Original Musk. The overall vibe is a little like a homemade Musc Ravageur.
That sounds like a great combination! I will give it a try 😀
Ohhh – I need to try that one
*adds to list*
😀
Hey, your post reminded me of ChocolateMarzipan8. My NST participation has been spotty over the last few weeks. Anyone heard from her?
Still alive and kickin’ and thanks for asking 😉
with no 2 heading to college in the Fall (and no 3 right behind the year after) I am trying to avoid lemmings and it isn’t an easy feat if I am on here everyday….
No joke! But nice to see you-even though there have been a few cm8 sightings recently ????
I’m combining the favorite note and layering CPs with OJ Tolu and Papillon Tobacco Rose for my dose of my favorite note. Working pretty nicely together, though they do still smell like 2 separate entities.
Mmm that sounds good! I have a layering combo on deck for tomorrow that includes Tobacco Rose.
TR is a good rose for layering methinks since it’s fairly simple to me, in a good way.
Hmmmm…. wondering if that Rose would work with Gourmand Coquin. For some reason I keep feeling that GC wouldn’t do well with a Rose note.
I never tried GC but I kind of feel like rose is sort of like a neutral color-goes well with most other notes.
Elisa P, I wanted to thank you for mentioning Goest sale; I really like her Realism, and, now, am waiting for another sale 🙂
Glad I could help! And glad to find someone else who’s tried anything from them. I liked Realism but want to retry when it’s warmer. It’s a different green, very pastoral smelling to me. The samples I ordered are all mostly in the “a bit weird” category. Have you tried others?
The only other one I tried is Smokers’. I like it (particularly the opening), but would love to check how it works on someone who actually smokes. I never tried this house before (I think mostly because the reference to marie antoinette and sofia coppola were a no for me), but am so glad you directed me their way, and definitely plan to explore them more. Which of your samples would you recommend?
Thanks for the link! Ok, 1st off she looks like she’s 15.
I got Lartigue, Jackal, Silent Films, & Realism.
Lartigue is the most mainstream. Smells like an intense version of my R&G Fleur d’Osmanthus=peachy.
Silent Films does indeed smell like celluloid and vanilla. It’s a little weird, but not unpleasant. A bit sterile which is maybe the point.
Jackal =dirt+bitter cocoa. It’s challenging for the first 20 minutes-dirty/animalic. But I like the drydown.
I smelled Dauphine in a store in Soho and didn’t need another cosmetic-y one to try. I’m good in that dept. Pretty, almondy, rose, sweet.
I ordered them because I bought Goest Smoke & Violets which they made for a jewelry store near me in Brooklyn called Catbird and only available on the store’s website (or in-store). Love it and still my favorite of the bunch: more leathery, than smoky with a bit of heliotrope powderiness and a slightly soapy violet.
Elisa P, Thanks for the recommendation; will look for a sample!
I enjoyed reading this interview with the owner: http://blog.urbanoutfitters.com/blog/featured_brands_goest_perfumes
SotD is Ormonde Woman, and received a compliment from a co worker (you smell good, is that a chanel?)
Yesterday I tried Narcotic Venus.
Despite the brand trying to be kinda edgy/niche (hipster bottle and names associated with drug use etc), this smells like a very safe, clean and polite white flower fragrance that could easily be made by a mainstream designer brand (michael kors and Gucci Bloom come to mind).
Its good though! A bit linear, and gets better after a while when warmed up by skin.
Love Ormond Woman!
Love OJ Woman too, you do smell good!
Smelling great, Jiji!
I’m revisiting Leap of Faith by splashing on something I know nothing about. Hence, Histoires 1725. It’s delicious! Could it be I’m coming around to fougeres? Only really chewy ambery ones though.
Bah, all gone to vanilla powder not long later.
Haha! How many times I have shared your bursting enthusiasm on NST about something I am trying, only to discover 30 minutes later I am bored or disappointed by it!
SOTD Naomi Goodsir Nuit de Bakelite, continuing sample-trial week/month.
I love this, too.
Sigh, I want too many things.
I know that feeling.
I call it “The Galloping Gimmies” 😛 😛
Great name
You smell great!
Back to 6/27/14 Forgotten Friend, I am wearing Teint de Neige by Lorenzo Villoresi. I love this perfume and never reach for it. Too many perfumes, too little time.
I might stick with this community project for the rest of the week, to give those perfumes that are unconsciously forgotten in my cabinet, the oppotunity to come out and shine.
You smell warm and fuzzy! I was obsessed with TdN last winter (and powder in general) and wore it almost every night. Haven’t worn it yet this year since I have new obsessions. Sigh.
Thank you. I used to wear TdN a lot 2-3 years ago, but as you said many new obsessions step in front of it, especially these days 😀 It is a heavenly powder scent that should deserve my attention much more. I will try, but……
How does it compare with Poudre de Riz (sp? –
you know which scent I’m referencing ????)
PdR has a bit of something berry/fruity and rosy and I find it a little less powdery than TdN, and maybe slightly sweeter? TdN smells mostly of heliotrope to me after the initial blast which has some aldehydes-closer to baby powder smell-but more “adult”.
Thanks E!
I love Teint de Neige as well and it is my SOTD. I do not wear it often enough either.
And you must share this forgotten friend with many because it used to be such a big cult favorite, and now I almost never hear about it!
I’ll be in Guerlain Angelique Noire today (from a splitmeet -yay!). I love this one, but always think it should have been named differently: it’s more “verte” than “Noire.”
So that works for the community project from 4/22/16 – Wear a Misnamed Fragrance.
I also don’t get much “vert” out of this..its all vanilla on me..
I mostly love Daniela Andrier’s work and have been meaning to try original Marni – I have and love Marni Rose. But today I’m continuing the Signature scent challenge theme in Vol de Nuit EDC. It’s less complex than the extrait formulation, but slightly more work-friendly because of that. Also less likely to stain my scarves – I discovered yesterday that one of my favorites really needs a bath. Yikes.
Have you tried the current VdN edt in the bee bottle? It’s available on FragranceNet and I’ve been tempted.
I’m interested to know how it’s holding up in its current state, too. Love the old bottles but the prices!!!
I’ve been lucky to find some reasonably good deals on vintage bottles … so far. I’m old enough that what I have now might last me most of the rest of my life, so hopefully I won’t be reduced to scouring the depths of e(vil)Bay for more. 😉
I’m not sure if it was from a bee bottle, but I have tried a small sample of the current EDT formulation – it’s nice, but pale and a bit weak compared to vintage EDT and EDC. And I can’t remember whether I’ve ever sampled an EDP formulation (or even if there IS one).
Thanks- sounds like vintage is the way to go.
I was hoping we’d get more Marni variations but looks like not? Anyway, if you ever happen across a travel spray of the original, it does layer nicely with the Rose.
I am wearing vintage Ma Griffe from a decant. It is quite an old-fashioned fragrance, in the sense that it is very aldehyde forward. Yesterday’s Sikkim could have been produced today, that is I didn’t find it old fashioned at all.
You smell wonderful !
thanks for this concise mini-review, I’ve been curious about this since my mom wore in the 60’s.
My Mom wore it too. I don’t dislike it, although aldehydes are not my thing.
Have you tried Le De or L’interdit?
Good morning Y’all….
Wearing the warm and cozy Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit. Needed some cozy comfort after the UGA/Bama game last night…..Boo hoo….. 🙂
Onward and forward…..
You smell wonderful!
As an Auburn fan, both GA and UA are my biggest rivals, thus I watched that game with a mixture of disdain and amusement! Truth be told, however, I was rooting for UGA- just so sick of Bama haha. Hoping the Ginger Biscuit is giving comfort!
LOL! I’m OK now…..
I grew up in Nashville and worked for a few years on the Vanderbilt campus (at a pharmacy), so I’m a Vandy fan 99.9% of the time. But my hubs is getting his Masters in Workforce Education at UGA, so I will show support when I need to…. 🙂
LOVE Ginger Biscuit….aren’t you glad that you bought it blind?
YES!!! This might be my fave gourmand…..ever? I’m 7 hours in and can still smell it….
I bought it in December for my 18 y.o.’s bday and have already stolen quite a few spritzes…it really is the best gourmand going!
Disappointingly commando. I’m on a flight to SFO, and I was thinking I could spritz on something at duty free. Forgot that the duty free shop is SFO, not JFK. Oops. I could dig into the bag with samples, but probably don’t want to do that on the flight itself. I only packed sample vials for this trip to keep myself on track. Plus, I know my sister will have samples for me.
I’ll just stop at duty free on my way out of the airport in SF!
Very irritated at Jet Blue, by the way. They were one of the few airlines that boarded by row (after all the special folks had boarded.). I had my routine down to a science. Aisle seat, lowest row # in the first called for general boarding. Meant absolutely no issues with overhead space. They’ve changed to the dreaded boarding group process. Which means I’m later to board….I think they board window/middle before me. Luckily, there was space, but mostly because there were late boarders. Why did you ruin my perfect system??? It made me so happy. Sigh.
Airline travel is so miserable – first the horrible boarding process, then you get on and the seats are tinier and closer together each year. Sorry Jet Blue ruined it for you!
The one thing that bothers me is that they don’t let families with small children board first.
Children in strollers pre-boarded. Not as the first ones but before most of us. I will say it was relatively orderly. Last time I flew back from SFO it was a free for all…. and they did start boarding quite early, which was great.
I had a very bad experience with Jet Blue, and will try to avoid them at any cost!
Airlines in general…blergghhh… I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with Jet Blue, oddly enough. (of course, its all relative in travel space…with a very low bar…)
Use them up: today’s sample is a mainstream, Ralph Lauren Woman. Inoffensive pretty thing, but I only sprayed a couple of times and it’s almost gone already. Perhaps because I have already had quite a day- my 13yo son fell on an icy driveway this morning (taking a shortcut in sneakers????) and had a large enough gash on his forehead that he needed 3 staples. The lack of common sense in teenagers is sometimes quite breathtaking. Fortunately it’s my day off so I was able to deal with it without having to cancel any classes. Having done my sampling duty, I’m off to put on some Ambre Precieux.
I’m sorry for the injury, but this did make me chuckle. He probably sees it as a badge of honor. There is a special place in heaven for mothers of teenage boys.
Sorry to hear about your son’s injury. I hope he is better soon.
Glad your son is OK.
Oh wow. Staples. Hope he’s feeling okay soon.
I am sorry to hear of your son’s injury! But I completely second what you said about teenagers and the lack of common sense…
Oh no! I hope he recovers quickly and learns something for the future from this incident.
My goodness. Glad it was not worse.
From 9-8-17, world niche (nothing Italian, french or British):
I’m wearing Ineke Idyllwild.
Great choice. This was one of my favorite releases from 2017. It got me investigating other perfumes with rhubarb note in the breakdown.
It is really nice. This is my first time wearing Idyllwind. I just noticed I misspelled it earlier.
I realized that I had a thing for rhubarb when I smelled and fell in love with Hermes Eau de Rhubarbe Ecarlate and then remembered that I also had the same reaction to L’Occitane Pamplemousse Rhubarb when I had first smelled it 🙂
Scent twin! I blind-bought this one to feed my rhubarb obsession, and it was a risk worth taking. I own and love several rhubarb-centric fragrances – Burberry Brit Red, Aedes de Venustas, DSH Albino, L’Occitane Pamplemousse Rhubarb – and Idyllwild is different enough from those to make it well worth owning and wearing. The rhubarb tea note is bright and juicy, and the conifer notes are subtle but distinguish it from other rhubarb scents with an incense-y greenness.
I also really want to try the rhubarb-heavy Olympic Orchids’ Chevalier Vert; I love many of Ellen Covey’s fragrances, and CV includes other favorite notes, such as tomato leaf, orris, violet, and pepper. Has anyone tried this one yet?
I tried Chevalier Vert before it was released (NOT because of any cool connection or anything! Ellen Covey was at a perfume sampling event at Tigerlily in SF) and I really liked it–but for the life of me I cannot recall the scent. Tomato leaf? Maybe it was the tomato leaf.
Good day to all! SOTD is L’être aimé by Divine, part of my Finish thy Samples Project. Divine has been a disappointment for me, I cannot smell anything 5 minutes after applying 🙁
Oh well, less sins for Donatella!
I liked that one, but sorry you can’t smell it ???? I actually found it to be on the heavy side and it lasted quite well. Didn’t love it enough to replace my sample.
Happens only with Divine fragances, until this summer had never experienced this before: first anosmic encounter?
Maybe the musk they use? Maybe try them in warmer weather-not sure where you live.
Iris Poudre again. No theme — I can’t be bothered right now to go through and pick out a theme for something I already wanted to wear. LAZY — but I smell good.
Theme: Lazy
That works. 🙂
This a theme I can manage.
Me lazy too. I’ll take that as a theme…
enjoy your lazy perfume days!
I like that theme.
Awesome blind buy scents – VC&A Moonlight Patchouli (good deal on eBay), and a scent split sample of Diaghilev. I tried these both last night and omgosh so beautiful. If I don’t buy any more perfumes the rest of the year I could get the Roja in December.
Wow! That says a lot…(writes Diaghilev on list) as you have smelled a lot of perfume. I love the idea of buying one luxurious bottler per year.
That is what I am trying to do this year. Not to buy anything and save until my birthday in November to get something really fancy and beautiful. At the same time that gives me the chance to finish some of the many bottles and samples I have. I hope I can stick with that desire!
That’s a really great plan!
Oh that’s a good plan! That’s motivation for me as well!
I have yet to try the current Diaghilev parfum. I liked the edp, but it was limited-edition and I understand it’s allll gone, and the parfum is noticeably different. Mostly I wonder how it might differ from the Pierre de Velay Extrait No. 11 that Roja also produces, and which I love. (I’m going to get a bottle of that somehow. Sometime. I’ve been making do with decants, but I’ve now blown through 2 5mls and am working down a 3rd. I just have to get a mule, because I don’t think he ships to the US.)
Today I’m getting Youth Dew from Diaghilev ???? which is interesting. Maybe a spray decant will make a difference. But it’s still lovely.
Angel Muse, to continue with Flanker week from 7/11/14
My husband loves Nutella, and he loves this fragrance.
He also loves sugary cereal, I am all ears if anyone has a good recommendation for a perfume reminiscent of sugary cereal – that is wearable 🙂
It’s a great day to make a cassoulet!
I haven’t actually tried it myself, but I think there is one from Lostmarc’h that is cereal-y. I had to look up the name, but Lann Ael is the one I’m thinking of. It is here: https://nstperfume.com/2009/06/02/summer-fun-brief-reviews-of-six-less-than-serious-perfumes-for-hot-weather/
thank you sweetgrass!
Give Parfumerie Generale Praline de Santal a try. It reminds me of Cap’n Crunch (an observation seconded by the true authorities, my kids!). It very comforting and wearable, though.
Thanks tavogels! this one sounds good too…
I second the recommendation from sweetgrass. Lann Ael smells very much like sugary cereal. Magical, sugary cereal. It’s a favorite of mine, and rarely fails to put a smile on my face.
Thank you Lisa D! You guys are the best, I have never even heard of this line. I might order this for Valentines day 🙂
The only place I see it online, is directly from the Lostmarc’h site – have you purchased it recently? It looks like shipping is only $5 but that seems too good to be true.
I used to see it on Amazon quite frequently.
????
Coin-op, I’d be happy to send you a sample. Give me a holler at lisadarty in the land of hot mail.
What fun suggestions! I may have to seek these out!
Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange smells like Fruit Loops (in the best possible way)
and it won’t break the bank 🙂
Agree with you that Tuscan Blood Orange smells like Fruit Loops.
Oh, I got the perfume solid a few years ago – before I fell down the rabbit hole – going to search it out and see if I smell Fruit Loops!
I had the body butter a few years ago… it was good to have during nasty winter weather. Very moisturizing!!
I’m wearing Philosykos today, which could probably fit several past themes. The one I went with, however, was Olivia Giacobetti day from 2016.
One of my favs. You smell great.
Mmm. You smell lovely.
2016 Forgotten Friday: wear a fragrance that you’d forgot you owned or forgot to wear. I’m in Hiram Green Voyage from a sample. This is a beauty. I’ve tested it before, but somehow I like it even more than the first time.
Joining mals in the Lazy Theme. SOTD is Lubin Idole, and why not?
Why not smell great, exactly.
Continuing the Basenotes Chanuary project with vintage No. 19, which also dovetails neatly with my goal for this week to wear palate-cleansing non-sweet scents, especially greens and chypres, which I often neglect. Thinking of Chamade for tomorrow.
Great choices!
I’m doing both Old School Niche from 3/13/2015 and Just Finish It Friday from 12/23/2016 because I finished off a sample of Carnal Flower! I’m wearing a tropical print shirt, so I’m matching it. Plus it’s rainy and dreary and I slept terribly so I need something cheerful to lift me up.
Blurgh. Sounds like a hangover-of-a-day. I find CF very uplifting-especially that whoosh of green. Hope it helped!
I was going to do a week of ambers, but the sun is shining and it has already warmed to 30+ degrees here- which feels downright balmy compared to last week’s temps- so Eau des Merveilles felt like the right choice for today.
Even the birds sound happy about our current weather situation.
You smell fabulous!
You smell awesome!
Trying out a sample of Dasein Winter. The spruce note at the beginning of this is GORGEOUS – I think I will need more than my little sample . . .
Twisted Lily had a small discount in Dec if you bought both Winter and Winter Nights.
I indulged ( of course)
Crazy realistic scent and weirdly addictive.
It has a light, airy quality that I’m really enjoying. It’s nice to find something with classic wintry notes that works in the desert!
Cuir de Lancome for me today! Feeling very french in this one so I added a silk neck scarf to my outfit. Happy it’s in the 40s!
You smell absolutely perfect.
awww.. thanks! It’s a beauty.
You smell great and yes to the warm-up! Though I dressed like it was going to be 10 degrees ????
Hello, good morning, happy days, and all of the best things to you, NST. I’m in a good mood, having had two decent night’s sleep in a row, and the happy observation that although we’re halving Eric’s meds now, his tummy seems to be behaving in the way a tummy should. He’s not growing fast, but he seems well, and I keep telling myself that after all, his mother is a tiny cat, all legs and ears. We will take him to our vet on Sunday for a big check up, and I really hope for good news.
I’m wearing 1270 today, which I think is very kind of me, considering that it work is just work. The aircon is so cold that this heavier perfume isn’t a problem inside, and even though it’s very hot (25–26 degrees), there’s quite a strong cool breeze round every corner, so the perfume doesn’t get a chance to congeal and turn cloying. Unless there was a week when the project was “Choose something randomly and hope for the best”, I’m not fitting in with the project, but I’m happy with my choices, which is the main thing, I suppose.
In kitten news, we’re having to operate an elaborate system of wedges in our wardrobe doors to keep our little mountaineers out. The attraction of the very top shelves is powerful to the kitten mind, but the mess they make when they surf down works equally powerfully in mine. Plus, you cannot imagine the damage a 4.5kg kitten can do to a leather jacket just by using it as a handy route to top shelf heaven ????. I really liked that jacket!
Well, I should take my fragrant self office-wards, though I feel a strong reluctance. I’d rather go out and play. Be well, all.
Nice to hear that little Eric’s kitten tummy seems to be working the way it should.
Wearing ELDO Attaquer le Soleil de Sade, and so glad I finally got a sample of this one! Thank you, Kevin, for reviewing it!
It’s on my sample list. It’s created quite a buzz and I’m very curious!
I somehow totally missed the buzz (was it here, on the Scent of the Day?), but will now need to confess a FB to Donatella for the quarter that has just started!
Wearing vintage Miss Dior today, waiting on my face cream.
You smell great!
I was inspired by others to yesterday to keep plowing through samples and so today’s (well this morning’s at least) SOTD is the newest version of Miss Dior–the 2017 edp. I don’t hate it or love it. If someone gave me a bottle, I would wear it. I am probably violating some inviolable perfumista law here, but to me it could be a Chanel–it reminds me of No. 19 Poudre or Misia in its style.
This made me laugh! Not sure if I smelled the 2017 version, but the last version I smelled was still better than Chance, so why not.
Using more samples. Continuing with Gallivant Istanbul. I like it much more than London, and it’s quite nice, but no desire to own it.
Happy Tuesday. I got the same feeling from the whole line…nice but nothing I need to have. Even the two latest additions. ????
Ditto
Wearing Oriental Express today, I layered over Shalimar shower gel. Song match is Train kept a Rollin by Aerosmith. Not my best effort, I know. But I smell good!
What do you mean, not your best effort? You picked a GREAT song!
It is a great song! But the only thing that matches the perfume is the title. Oriental Express doesn’t have much Rock to it.
That’s probably why I like it! ????
Wearing a “wear a no-brainer perfume” today:Balenciaga Cristobal.I have no idea about the notes, but it always smells like a saturated watercolor painting looks.Amd although a much older perfume,it does remind me of the slightly sweeter Gaultier Squared.Good stuff! And wonderful in todays’ cooler weather. We had a lovely cloudburst earlier.Happy Tuesday!X
Your posts are a ray of light and warmth in my current yucky winter weather. Although, TBH, it wasn’t that bad today.
SOTD is Eau de Exhaustion. Good news is I’m on my second cup of coffee with the addition of a shower in my imminent future. That should be enough to crack at least one eye open????
I’m hankering for something different today, scent wise…
Now that I have “SSS” (as my father would poetically put it), I’m in En Voyage Zelda. She’s quite mercurial…
Oh no! Get some rest soon. Eau de Exhaustion is a scrubber on everyone.
Bleh! Hope you get rid of the Eau de Exhaustion ASAP!
Inspired by comments above, it’s Tea for Two for me today.
Yay!!! You smell wonderful!
Back from Warsaw and I feel so tired – 3 hours drive to the city, followed by a 3 hours of meeting and then another 3 hours to drive back. Reminds me how much I dislike such short business trips.
I wore Atelier des Ors Iris Fauve to follow a “wear an iris perfume” theme from the past.
Now that is a good theme!
Now that is a good theme! And that perfume is on my try-list. 🙂
It totally is & Iris Fauve is a must try for iris lover
Happy Tuesday Everyone! Wearing a scent that I got as a gift for Christmas.
My SOTD is Chloe!
Perfume gifts are the best!
Greetings from the Land of Perfume Ennui. No complaining, I’m just not that into it lately. Post-holiday sensory overload? Maybe… The upside is I am (for now) unplagued by the Galloping Gimmies.
Anyway, I am wearing Le Labo The Noir because it was handy and couldn’t be bothered to think about it. I smell good, sure.
I’ll arrive in that land myself sooner or later. I think it’s inevitable. But, I think it’s also inevitable you will find your way back. Just go where the ride takes you. It’s the perfect time to squirrel away some cash now that the Galloping Gimmes are no longer plaguing you! ????????
We all end up in the Land of Perfume Ennui, not once but many times. Take all the time you need to recover. It is very refreshing and at the same time you save money, which in my case is relieving.
You might be on to something with holiday over-stimulation for 2017. It was a strange time for me.
I’m in Memo Manoa today. Category: Perfume chosen by my 4 year old from a lineup of 3. Skive and Palissandre d’Or lost out. It’s not the one I thought he would choose!
Nice one! My husband loves that one.
Back layering today, so sticking with my same theme as yesterday. Today I’ve made a little cocktail out of Commodity Whiskey (two “shots”), Gin (two shots), and Tea (one shot). It’s working. I smell really good!
Wow – not just layering, but drink-themed layering. Cool idea!
Well, perfume and cocktails ARE two of my favorites things ever ha!
Me too! I wonder how I can layer me an Old Fashioned that I could wear to school…
Try layering with Commodity Book. ????
Petite Rien. It’s the most subtle cozy incense today, perfect for windy, sun-peeking cold.
I’m continuing my 5-star/ 1-star week (based on Turin and Sanchez’s) guide – today is a 5-star day and I’m wearing Jicky. Lurve. (It’s the modern EDT – I don’t want to smell the vintage because I may never recover. The modern stuff is so lovely as is.)
I will have some strong words for Friday – the 1-star that I’m planning to wear is one of the scents I consider near perfection. Oh well, I guess perfume is a subjective art just like all the others!
Absolutely! A lot of my favorites are 3 stars ????
I think they are 90% spot on, but 100% entertaining.
5 stars for secretions magnifique tho? And 5 stars for tocade too? Does not seem as though they are using the same standards, but hey, it’s their book. Aren’t they coming out with a new one?
Sistine, the vintage Jicky is gorgeous, I had the PdT version from the 90s….
Hello, NST! Today’s SOTD is the same scent that I’ve been wearing since January 4… Hugo Boss’ Deep Red. It was a favorite scent ages ago, and I have been enjoying it so much that I just keeping returning to it.
So: this can cover a few themes: No-Brainer, Forgotten Friend, and (maybe, if I am really persistent) Use It Up! We shall see how long I stick with this new found perfume monogamy.
Wow, that’s love! ????
I would be seriously bummed out if Deep Red turned or went off, so I am going to use it and enjoy it.
Still smelling great!
Thank you! ????
Ack! Typo up there: should be “keep”, not “keeping”. Cats can be detrimental to the proof reading process.
Scent of the afternoon = Bergamote 22
I liked it on paper, bravely spritzed my arm, then spritzed more on 5 minutes later. The bergamot top note is happy and refreshing, the rest is rather quiet so far. This is Le Labo’s slightly musky eau de Cologne.
Yes, good description.
Thanks, Robin. I love the citrus in Bergamote 22, but the musk annoyed my nose, had to scrub it. I was reminded that the musky cologne Eau de Rochas did the same, and was much stronger though less costly. These two could be Paris/NYC cousins. Oh, well. More for someone else.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who experienced the blooming effect from the musk in Bergamotte 22!
I am doing just finish it Friday as I finished my 5ml rollerball of Cocoa Tuberose by Providence Perfume. It look me over a year to finish the 5ml rollerball and I wore it quite frequently.
W00t w00t for the perfume finish!
????
You did wear that one quite a bit. I wonder if rolling on is more efficient than spraying?
Velvety patch, a dusting of dark cocoa and tuberose. It reminds me of a less sweet version of Coromandel. I liked the rollerball as the scent stayed closer to my skin, although I could smell it all day. It had really great longevity for a natural. Charna sells 5 ml rollerball in really cute packaging. It was a cuddlefluff scent for me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’ll probably buy another one next fall.
That sounds really nice! The Rose Boheme also lasts pretty well, too.
I am doing the Forgotten Friend project all week. Yesterday it was DSH Twelfth Night, and today it is Attrape-Coeur. As lovely as it is, it is difficult to wear in hot weather, which is most of the year on the Gulf Coast, and I often forget to wear it during out too-brief winters. Tomorrow I plan to wear Vega. I haven’t decided yet on the rest of the week.
I have been starting to go through my perfume decants and samples and have realized that I had things I had completely forgotten buying. One of my plans (NOT resolutions) for 2018 is to get a handle on my perfume. I plan to make an inventory of all my full bottles and decants-so I know what I actually have-and make a real effort to work through my samples and take notes on them.
I have been promising myself to do that for years. If you do it, nag me to do it too!
Today’s SOTD is San Francisco Rose by April Aromatics.
How is that one? I ordered a sample of Rosenlust with my last Luckyscent order, but have been curious about this one, too.
It’s an herbal (similar to rose geranium) rose and iris on me – it starts green and ends a little powdery, which I really enjoy.
It’s a quiet perfume, which doesn’t project much but it lasts about five/six hours total on my skin. 🙂
SOTD was sample of new TF vanilla Fatale. It’s a bit cloying. I think I’ll stick with Tabacco Vanille.
Good to know!
SOTD = Chanel 8 spray La Pausa EDT
I am doing a week of Chanel. Thanks to cazaubon for the Chanuary idea!
BUSY at work and I’ve joined the ranks of the sick – body ache, dodgy stomach, BLAH!
That tote looks cute but nearly £71 is way too expensive!
Oh no! I guess that means something nasty is making the rounds in our area. 🙁
Sorry you’ve been hit with The Bug. Hope it passes soon! So many people at my weekly Tuesday am meeting were sick.
Chanel week! I hope that you feel better. I’ve had similar symptoms and am pretty sure that I have a sinus infection.
8 sprays!
You’re totally my hero.
Yay for Chanuary! Boo for bugs. Hope you feel better soon.
Oh no! Hope it passes over quickly.
