Another Monday, plus, Typing Day. Birthdays today: Elvis Presley, Shirley Bassey, David Bowie, Stephen Hawking. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing good old Houbigant Aperçu, which I wore for the Forgotten Friend project in June 2014. I'm afraid it's still a forgotten friend, but it's making a much better showing in January than it did in June.
Reminder: on 1/12, we're doing Rinse, repeat...pick a favorite community project from the past, and do it again. (If you need a reminder, here are the lists for 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017).
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In Hypnotic Poison for a day of outdoor working. Have a happy Monday everyone!
Stay warm out there!
Thank you Deva. Not so bad outside today compared with the past weekend.
I was just thinking yesterday, that I haven’t seen Hypnotic Poison mentioned much this winter. You smell great! Stay warm!
It is true, Hypnotic Poison has not been mentioned much this season yet. I used to wear it more often, but my bottle is all the way in the back of my cabinet and I can barely see it. I really enjoy wearing it!
WOW! You will burn a lot of calories today, hope you fill up with something delicious!
I am burning tons of calories! 😀 Later when I get home I will have some delicious food for sure and a glass of wine. For now just a salad. I usually do not eat much when I am at the sites.
Stay warm! It least it’ll get up to 30 today. I’m sure that’s no consolation.
Compared to the past couple of days, today it is like summer time for me. Looking forward to the temperature to warm up more, since I might be working out for the rest of the week. 🙁
That was a friend of mine’s signature scent
She was smelling wonderful for sure!
I went for a theme for 2014:
9/26 Uncle Serge Day: wear something by Serge Lutens
Rocking Un Bois Vanille. Getting a bit more boozy vanilla extract than I have historically, but this is usually a fall scent, and we have definitively entered winter.
I like that one. You smell nice. Hope you are getting some warmer temps this week!
Yes, thankfully. We are supposed to become warm enough to actually see rain later in the week.
That’s a favorite of mine too. The not too-sweet-or-cupcakey-all around-great vanilla. You smell great!
Un Bois Vanille is possibly Serge’s greatest accomplishment, because it’s completely accessible and beautiful while remaining identifiably Lutens, all those little weird flourishes like black licorice and waxy honey tucked in around the edges. It’s one of my favourite scents in the entire world.
That description alone makes me want to try it!
I’m doing a week of ambers and starting with L’Artisan’s Ambre Extreme. I’ve never tried the original, so I don’t know how “Extreme” this one is in comparison, but it is nice.
That image reminds me of my college years when I had to write papers using an actual typewriter. In our student union, there were typewriters available that ran on quarters. I think a quarter got 15 minutes. I can remember when I was getting toward the end of the paper, my typing rate would pick up greatly as I was trying to beat the clock. When I talk about that with my kids, they look at me like I’m crazy. Typewriters?!
Wow, a coin-operated typewriter. Never ran across one of those. (I had a little cheapie electric one in college, an early word-processor type that could be set to type directly, or to do a line at a time so you could edit a typo before you printed it. Still have the thing, though its cartridges are totally unfindable now.)
Yeah, they were electric too- but not as fancy as yours sounds- Smith Corona if I remember correctly.
Hang onto that typewriter! I’m sure it’s a collectors item!
Mals, I had one of those! I was convinced it was inhabited by an evil spirit, so I put a Grateful Dead sticker on it to ward off bad vibes.
You were ahead of your time!????I see kids with stickers all over their laptops nowadays.
Wow! 15 minutes! That would’ve cost me a lot of money. My highschool never taught typing. They were too cheap to buy enough typewriters. Regrettable.
I learned to type in a summer course at the local community college. Fancy IBM Selectrics!
I took one round of summer school typing. It didn’t stick, unfortunately. Partly because most of my college courses were sciences without much paper writing.
I learned on an IBM Selectric in high school! Most valuable thing I learned in school.
I took typing in high school to avoid taking something else, can’t remember what, but it turned out to be one of those happy accidents — it has served me well.
Same for me. I wasn’t really interested in it at all, but it was one of the few courses available during a certain period. I am so glad I took it. I actually loved it and am a really good typist. It’s served me well in multiple jobs.
Well, it might’ve been a half hour…????This was 25-30 years ago, so the memory gets a bit foggy. Lol.
Typing was required sophomore year and we had to bring our own manual typewriter…most of us had beat up portables because they tended to be handed down from sibling to sibling; I was the third user. In addition, my brother and I took lessons with an aunt who lived two streets down and we had to lug the big manual one (now I don’t recall why we were not allowed to bring the portable!)
I never heard of coin op typewriters! I took typing in junior high for 8 weeks or so, but then my dad made me work for him in his solo small town law office over the summers, and I really got good. Helped me over the years when I needed an interim job working for a temp agency!
It does seem kind of odd when I think back, but I suppose the intention was to keep people focused on the task at hand since they were paying for it. There were times when there was a wait to use them.
I had to use a typewriter also, but thankfully had a friend with a huge Selectric. I was a very fast typist because I took TWO levels of typing in high school. First on manual, second on electric. I remember the teacher instructing us to keep our wrists flat, as if we had a glass of water balancing on each. I still do that today. I could take shorthand too…that was very helpful in college classes. My class notes were gibberish to most folks.
Ooh, I will try to remember that wrist tip since I still do a fair amount of typing in my job. It probably helps to prevent carpel tunnel.
I took typing too, but wished I had also taken shorthand!
It absolutely helps to avoid carpal tunnel. I’ve done a lot of typing and writing, and I’ve never had an issue. I have more of an issue with the mouse than keyboard.
Wearing the inoffensive and quite nice Bvlgari Omnia (the original) to celebrate my last work day for 4 days. WooHoo! I have worked 5 out of 6 and I’m beat.
Happy Monday to all and stay warm! Do they even manufacture typewriters anymore? ????
You still marvelous! I still remember picking out Omnia as the most interesting thing among the sea of fruity florals at Sephora circa 2005… should have known it was too good to last.
*smell
Oh man, I did that over the New Years weekend also. 60 hours. My son asked me, “is that even legal?” Lol.
Enjoy your days off!!
you smell great! Important category “inoffensive and quite nice”.
They sure do make typewriters: they had a bit of a resurgence a year or two ago thanks to the huge boom in journalling, and so you can easily buy one at your local craft store — a company called We R Memory Keepers makes them in mint green and rose pink as well as the classic black.
Just googled. I want that pink one!
Brings back high school typing class with the nuns nightmare! HATED that class and consequently hated typing because those nuns were mean, stinky, and super quick to slap your hand with a ruler. Ugh! Did I mention I HATED that class? Lol!
I wore this one non stop when it first came out. You smell serene and gorgeous
6/6/14: wear something Chanel
I’m wearing Chanel Boy.
My tea is honeybush acai berry
Oh great choice!!
I am doing a week of Chanel, its a good community project
Joining your poll in some vintage No. 19.
Joining you in Chanel 28 La Pausa EDT, from my new Xmas present. Love this stuff.
This week (as is my plan this month) I will be only using sample vials, and try to finish some of the nearly-depleted ones. Today I am retrying l’Artisan Parfumeur Violaceum, and I still really REALLY like it. Not a lot of sillage even when I dabbed a generous amount, but that’s how I like it since it makes it office-permissible.
12/23: Just Finish It Friday: finish a sample or decant you’ve been hanging onto for a long time, OR wear from a precious bottle that’s getting low. Big bonus points if you finish a bottle! (Suggested by Elisa)
Nice — and I still need to try that one!
I have so many samples that I feel like chucking them all out. I only buy sprays now, and the 1ml babies lie ignored in the dark. Life is so cruel.
It’s more like Second chance than Rinse, repeat for me. I chose: 9/16 Harvest Moon Friday: wear a fragrance with a nut or grain note. I wanted to participate in 2016, but missed that week.
SOTD is Hermessence Vetiver Tonka because of the hazelnut and praline notes..
Great choice, and I should wear that this week. Let’s see what other project I can retrofit it to!
I’m meeting another blast of winter by going big and bold: Imaginary Authors A City on Fire.
Have a great week.
How does that one develop for you? I haven’t found anywhere where I can really wear it as it is too much for the office or evening at home, and I haven’t cared for it enough to waste a weekend day.
To be honest it took awhile for me to warm up to this one. The initial spray on me is more sulphuric then camp fire smoke. Harsh and unwelcoming. I stuck it out and the dry down is a warm woodsy scent with dabs of honey running through. Just spray an hour or so before greeting the public. ????
Combination of past projects: wear something Chanel, by Olivier Polge and a flanker. It’s Chanel No. 5 L’Eau!
And it’s in keeping with my plan to use samples as much as possible. This is from a Sephora sample. And it needed to be something subtle as I head to the dentist for what I hope is the last appointment for a while. Getting the permanent crown installed.
Nice triple play! Good luck with the crown. I had one replaced about a year ago and the permanent fitting was much faster and more pain-free than the temporary.
I really, really like No 5 L’eau— and I’m surprised how much I’ve used in my bottle. It’s been my scented bookmark frag for a few months now (I took a blotter from Ulta and just keep re-spraying it).
Good morning!
I’m back in Stash Unspoken, which I like more and more each time I wear it. Sprayed an extra spray so I could get a bit more longevity and projection, but it’s still very soft and understated. I like that!
Started the day with a traffic ticket for running an “orangish/pinkish” red light, so hopefully the rest of the day will be drama free….. 🙂 Oops!
Had you been up north here, I’m sure your southern charm would have gotten you out of that ticket! I’m hoping to see Unspoken in the store soon, the original was to much for me.
Ouch! Sorry about the ticket, but I’m quite sure that perfume is making the office grinch less grinchy! That should be a community project! Wear a scent that make scentphobes love scent????
good idea!
sorry about the ticket 🙁 how does Unspoken relate to Stash original?
The top notes are WAAAAAY lighter and softer, but the base is pretty much the same. Much softer projection, shorter longevity on my skin…..
It seems to be great for the office/daytime…..Perfume Grinch seems to be completely unaware….LOL
good to know, thanks 🙂 Maybe your exposure therapy experiment with the Grinch is working….his nose is two sizes too small, ha
Well now you’ve earned a beautiful shiny enabler pin???? So your day is instantly brighter. I just had to check out the new Stash and it sort of fell into my shopping basket and what could I do? ????♀️
That’s happened to me sooooo many times…..LOL! I hope you love it!
Those darned orangish-pinkish lights! 😛
I’m revisiting Purgatory Basket from 2014! And it has probably not been since 2014 since I last sniffed my sample of Comptoir Sud Pacifique Coeur de Raisin – and even longer since I got it, as the name has completely changed (to Princesse Muscat).
The first hour has a bit of an unpleasant pepperiness, but then it turns into quite a lovely tropical fruit thing. One of the listed notes is mangosteen, one of my favorite fruits, and with this at the discounters I think I shall finally retrieve it from purgatory and send it to The Good Place (my closet).
Ha — I’ve been watching the show The Good Place so that cracked me up 🙂
Oooh, you just made me realize there’s a new episode! Wahoo!
First I thought that “Stash Unpsoken” is the name of the project – wear a scent from your secret stash of perfumes or something like that 😆
That was a response to JadainGA’s comment.
That’s a great idea for an upcoming Friday!!! I am forever finding samples that were long forgotten…
I’m starting off the week in an old favorite, Sikkim by Lancome. I had a bottle of this in the ’70s and loved it. This is from a decant from one of the decant house’s vintage collection.
I’ve never heard of this one…..had to get on Fragrantica to read up! Sounds gorgeous!
I decided to (re)do the Signature scent challenge from 2014. I can’t remember if I’ve been NSTing that long, but in any event I’ll be in various formulations of Vol de Nuit all week. Today is the extrait version, thanks to helpful prodding from Rappleyea (if you’re out there, thank you!). Happy Monday, all.
You are going to smell amazing !!!
Your first comment was on 10/4/2013, but that was for a contest. Your next comment, and the start of regular commenting, was 9/6/2014.
Very Big Brother, lol.
Sorry, did not mean to creep you out! I promise I don’t go around checking, but you said you couldn’t remember so I did a comment search 🙂
SheriG didn’t write that, I did! and didn’t mean it as a criticism at all, and from the little I do know about you, have zero doubt you’d dedicate your time to such an endeavor! Just reading the whole sequence at once struck me as funny, not creepy.
Oh — sorry, wasn’t paying adequate attention to who was saying what! And I guess it is funny, but it might also really be creepy, LOL…
Not creepy at all, and thank you for taking the trouble to look it up! 🙂
Glad I did not freak you out SheriG. Next time I’ll wait until someone asks!
My favourite community project from the last year or so was Dealer’s Choice, where we got to propose a theme, so I’m doing that again this week, and my theme is Simplicity: wear a scent with five or fewer notes. (It can and probably will have more than a few ingredients, but the overall effect should be something uncomplicated, pared down and natural.)
So today I’m wearing the lamentably discontinued Cocoon by Yves Rocher: vanilla, dusty cocoa powder, and patchouli, nothing more. It’s warm and soft and cuddlesome, the perfect antidote for the cold weather we’ve been suffering through.
sounds wonderful. What is your favorite available offering from Yves Rocher?
Great name and sounds like the scent matches well!
Mmm, sounds nice!
I’m wearing a chypre that was also my most daring and successful blind buy: Enlèvement au Sérail by MDCI. Blind bought for full retail price (without the expensive top of course) and a stunner. My mum has fallen for it as well, so I keep making her small decants.
and it’s such a pretty pink! I love stories of successful full retail blind buys, well done!
I split a bottle of that with someone, wish I’d kept the whole thing now that’s it’s discontinued due to IFRA.
I’m going to try and revisit the match a perfume to a song challenge this week. Sotd is Armaf Club de Nuit intense. Matching song is Clones by Alice Cooper. I took typing in 7th grade, back when it was OK for teachers to hit you on the knuckles with a ruler. I never learned how to type, but up until a few years ago, I had a very cool old typewriter.
That was one of my favorite projects too. I just ordered a sample set from Art Meets Art, all of the perfumes are named after songs.
Ooh… Now I have to look them up!
Yes-you should! Six samples for nine bucks with free shipping all the way from Paris was practically free in my book.
Oh I thought it was nine bucks each, lol. That is an awesome deal!
Ha! Good one. It’s a pretty decent clone IMO.
sotd Tom Ford Velvet Orchid, for Flanker week from 7/11/14
I can’t make up my mind about this one, I smell patchouli, which isn’t listed, but hey. I definitely like it, and would probably wear it if I were with among a certain crowd so they would say “you smell good”. I just can’t stop thinking about TOM FORD.
Even if Tom Ford didn’t have perfume, I would have a crush on him. I’m very attracted to good looking men, who don’t think about me or want to give me money. Lol????!
????????
There’s a lot of it about????
I second the Tom Ford crush ha! He’s just soooo handsome!
My SOTD was chosen by default since I’m pretty congested and having difficulty smelling. I sniffed through a bunch of things and chose one I can smell pretty well: SL Sa Majeste la Rose. It’s nice and fresh and uplifting and I’ll attach it to a theme: Wear a perfume with a favorite note. Rose is probably my #1.
Yay for rose!
Yay! I’ve been really craving/borderline obsessed with rose lately.
Sorry you are still sick:(
Thanks! I feel fine from the neck down, lol.
Feel better Elisa P. Hopefully the “warmer” temperatures will help.
Thanks pl67! Ha! Yeah, “warmer” is right. Though it didn’t feel terrible out today.
I am repeating the Old School Niche week, wearing L’Artisan’s Dzing. It also conveniently allows me to finish off the sample.
I forgot that project, we should do that again!
I am combining two projects from February 2016 – 1 star and 5 star perfumes from the perfume guide by Turin and Sanchez. Today is 1-star Monday, and I am wearing (and loving) Ambrette 9 by le labo. Yes, I smell like boozy apple juice but I like it a lot.
Tomorrow is a 5-star day!
House twins! 🙂
Ambrette 9 is my best comfort scent! Very relaxing and cozy. I do not get any apple juice, mostly a creamy, milky amber, if can describe it that way.
I don’t get apple juice either but I found it to be a comforting “second skin” scent.
I have a business trip to Warsaw tomorrow, had to prepare some stuff to present but luckily I managed to finish before going home.
SotD is Pelargonium from Aedes, which smells rather interesting in -7°C.
Enjoy your trip! Safe travels and stay warm
Today I’m doing a ‘wear you’re favourite note’ project, which was on the 2014 list, and I’m sure repeated many times since then.
Favourite note: iris, perfume: iris poudre, Frederick Malle.
You smell exquisite
Thanks lucasai, IP is one of my favourites!
I keep forgetting to mention how much I’m enjoying ‘yoga with Adrienne’, my best discovery of 2017, the new ‘30 days of yoga’ videos are brilliant! I highly recommend them to yoga fans and anyone looking for a flexible way of incorporating fitness into their life this year.
Yay – I’m doing the new 30 days with Adriene also. I wondered if anyone else here was doing them! I’m a bit behind – just finished Day 2, but am committed to all 30 days.
Brilliant!- the beauty of them is that it’s so flexible, it doesn’t really matter how long it takes to complete them, just so good to be doing them regularly.
Is this a super powdery Iris?
I’ll add my 2 cents if that’s ok. The first few hours are aldehydic powdery, a littledust almost to me, but the drydown is creamy warm goodness. I really like how it smells but the first stage gave me a headache and it really bothered my husband, unfortunately ????
Hey thanks. I’ve tried No.19 poudre, and the Narciso one, neither struck me as powdery, which is what I am interested in. Some of the old school powdery perfumes gave me a headache too. I could never wear LouLou until it was reformulated.
Iris Poudre is a favorite of mine, and I would say that it is not a rooty dusty iris. There’s some powder, but it’s more like face powder and the powderiness of aldehydes. I love the drydown best.
This week’s theme is “finally get this sample vial off my bathroom counter” – I’m pretty sure it meets the intent, if not the specific wording, of at least one previous weekly project.
SOTD Miller Harris La Fumee Ottoman. Deliciously warm and ambery-spicy. I bought Feuille de Tabac at the Miller Harris boutique in Covent Garden 2 years ago, and it doesn’t get a lot of wear. Wishing I’d picked this one instead!
I just got Fumée Ottoman for a good price on Fragrancenet. Nice stuff! Bought the Fumée Intense version as well.
Ooh, thanks for the tip! I didn’t realize there was an intense version too…tempting.
SOTD is Arquiste Nanban. No theme, just love it.
Typing day! Well, here I am typing 🙂 I remember back in junior high when I was trying to pick my classes, my neighbor (an engineer) told me I should take typing. I indignantly informed him that I would *not* be a secretary when I grew up! He said no, no, trust me, everyone will need to know how to type in the future. He was so right, and throughout my college and work years, I have been so glad to have ’10-finger’ typist skills.
Your engineer neighbor was wise. I took a typing elective class in 8th grade figuring it would be an easy A. Then in high school I was able to take a computer programming class that had a typing prerequisite.
I took a typing class in 7th grade – I think it was a required course by then (mid-2000s).
But the thing I really credit with honing my typing skills was all of the hours I spent on AOL Instant Messenger chatting with my friends after school 🙂
For me, junior high years were mid-to-late 70’s… pre computer days 🙂
When I was in college, studying engineering, one of my liberal arts professors (yes, engineers did have to take a few liberal arts electives… I took 3 such classes in 4 years of college…. ha) … anyway, she pulled me aside to apologize for losing a paper I’d turned in, and said she hoped I’d made a copy. I said no problem, I’ll go print it out from the computer, will have it for you in 15 minutes… she was astonished that such a thing could be done! Yes this was the dark ages 🙂
Same here on the typing thing, most valuable class I took in high school. As a humanities major I typed a lot of papers.
BTW, I received my bottle of Guerlain Lui. I got a huge mushroomy myrrh opening, then that calmed down into clove and benzoin. Thankfully I did not get the pear note. No real leather or smoke on me. Moderate sillage and longevity. Bought it blind, and although the opening had me thinking ebay sale, fortunately the drydown was enjoyable enough to feel satisfied. Love the bottle.
L’Instant Magic from 2007 which I acquired during my 4th quarter eBay bender…as a blind buy.
A powdery sweet floral…hoping some vanilla shows up…only tested it once before.
Wearing CK Obsession Sheer. Or Sheer Obsession. I’m never sure. I still think it’s the best of the Obsessed/Obsession bunch.
My chubby Buddha is on and off again fevers, and his molars have not gone through yet, but I am hopefully they will soon so he (and I!!!) can get some relief.
Happenings this weekend involved seeing the Louis Vuitton exhibit downtown, and it just blew me away! I felt like I was stepping back in time..everything was so so well done! Legacy does not happen overnight! This show was free to boot! Can’t beat that! After the exhibit I met some friends for a veggie lunch at the famous vegan Candle Cafe.
SOTD is Cristalle. I have been ignoring my Chanel’s so I will do a week of Chanel…
I’ve been meaning to check out the LV exhibit. Glad for the reminder!
A former downstairs neighborhood was a chef for Candle Cafe. She was a great cook!
Hope your Buddha gets some relief soon!
1) Poor little Buddha. Love and kisses!
2) This exhibit seem worth travelling back home for! It is too bad it closes in a few days!
It is so worth it! Do go and check it out (though I think it may be all finished now actually) I did smell the LV fragrances and I already forgot what they smelled like..they were that memorable 😛
I feel bad for my little Buddha, he is in agony. My oldest never went through this when the teeth came in.
We have the LV store here in Portland I did smell their fragrances- they are NOT that memorable at all. But I ALMOST did buy a very beautiful weekend bag while sniffing like a truffle pig! That may be part of the market plan- seduce with scent! 🙂
Come on, molars! Get moving and get it over with! Hope you both can get some sleep soon.
It’s funny when you don’t have to be at work for a couple days that those days go by quickly. So today, I’m back at work (going in at 1). Today will be a LADDM day or maybe Shalimar to combat the chill.
my vote is for Shalimar
I can virtually pass you a cup of Shalimar tea..
Do tell which you chose!
SotD = Rose 31 from a discovery set sample
Smells spicy and grassy with some shy roses. It fits the “What’s in a name” challenges. Part 1 was wear a rose scent. Part 2 was wear a misnamed scent. This does not smell like 31 roses or 31 of anything .
Also works for the Daphné Bugey community project from last December.
The Le Labo packaging is trying hard to look like someone typed it for me.
Love that vintage Royal typewriter! I taught myself to type by touch on a slightly more modern but still manual Royal typewriter when I was 11 years old. During that summer I made the mistake of telling Mom I was bored. She sat me down with a learn-to-type book from her college days then said, “Don’t stop until you finish the first chapter.”
Exercise for Home Row:

Rinse, repeat! 😀
I adore Le Labo’s Rose 31, one of my favorites from the line. Have you tried the Perfum oil?
Haven’t tried the perfume oil (or much of anything from Le Labo) though I can imagine it must be very pretty.
For anyone who likes to keep track of scent duplicates, after a few hours of sniffing Rose 31, it reminds me very much of Nirvana Rose.

It is etched in my brain. Unfortunately now I have switched to a French azerty keyboard and I am learning over again. It’s tough.
Wearing Ambre Des Merveilles, repeating either Hermes or flanker Friday. Was pretty surprised to look through the community projects and discover that we had never done an amber day, so I guess it also qualifies for those name your own project days
I request an amber project day!
Good idea! I have a tone of amber perfumes!
Oops. I have a *ton* of amber perfumes.
It is on the list! We haven’t done musk yet either, or tuberose.
Today’s a rather grey and rainy day so I opted for Nicolai Parfumeur Le Temps d’une Fête, sunny and happy.
I’ll be switching gears to Magie Noire extrait for this evening though, as The Hunger is playing at The Castro Theater and I want something appropriately gothic. 🙂
The Hunger❤ Great activity for David Bowie’s birthday. And great scent to match. Enjoy!
Thanks! I can’t wait, one of my favorite movies (and soundtracks), love Bauhaus…
Bauhaus❤ Peter Murphy ❤❤ I could watch him on repeat all day in that movie. I saw him in concert a few years ago and he was still as great. Did a lot of Bauhaus and his solo stuff which I also like.
Ooooh, I’m a Peter Murphy fan too! I haven’t seen The Hunger in years, but I bet it will be really fun to revisit.
That must have been a fabulous time! I’ve always loved him in concert.
You smell beautiful! If I had vintage edp of this, it would fit my theme for this week.
Thanks Laura! I love many of her perfumes, this one is so cheerful and uplifting – it’s one of my favorites from her line.
I had so many “colour” scents lined up for last week that I didn’t have enough time to wear, I decided to just keep going for another week. Today is Ormonde Jayne Black Gold. Yesterday was L’artisan L’eau Ambre Intense.
I didn’t get to wear all mine either!
After an overload of sweets the past fw days, needed something to cleanse the palate: JM Orris & Sandalwood.
I really fell hard for this one in 2017.????
I love that one. One of my favorites JMs.
Doing the 8/5/16 theme and wearing Francis Kurkdjian – Guerlain Rose Barbare. I had picked it out as SOTD before finding a theme for it to adhere to. I got a small decant from Elizabeth many months ago and am just now wearing it. It’s lovely! Very wearable to the office.
glad you are enjoying!
Hello All!
1) And back to the grind! This week’s weather is rather nice though- it is still chilly, but NOT bone freezing cold, and i am grateful for this.
2) SOTD: The last bits of Spicebomb, from a sample.
3) Have Blackstar on the computer here at work. Perfect, perfect album.
Hoping for nice weather soon — we were stuck inside again much of the day with freezing rain, yuck.
Wearing a sample of Gallivant London. I didn’t wear them side by side, but it reminds me tremendously of Stella In Two Peony (which actually, I believe they may have rebranded and reissued as Stella Peony recently–I haven’t smelled though, so not sure if they changed the juice). I used to like this one as a youngster, it came out my senior year of high school and I wore it my freshman year of college as well. But I don’t really enjoy it so much anymore. It’s a pleasant smell, not too strong, but just not my pick these days. So it’s a hard pass on London. I looked it up and both perfumes share several of the same notes.
I love your mini reviews!
They said they reformulated Peony, but no idea how much.
No theme for me today, just wearing something I like–Amouage Jubiliation 25. I’m close to finishing a number of samples though, so maybe I’ll do that as the Friday project.
In Olene from a sample. It is grey, cold, and rainy outside, and I needed a pick-me-up. We REALLY need the rain, but it is, well, wet. Wet and cold. And wet. Did I mention wet?
Embrace that wet…the wine industry will need that moisture and several years to come back in North CA! 🙁
My project for the week is use them up. Samples, that is. Today is SSS spiced citrus vetiver. One of her naturals, it’s close to the skin but its hanging in there (faintly) after 5 hours. Nice, easy to wear.
A worthy project!
I was back to work yesterday after two weeks off, it was a bit of a shock, but also quite exciting as we’ve moved to a newly refurbished building. It’s much better than the old place, but a bit further away. I was spoiled with a walk of less than 10 minutes to get to work, now its 20, so I can’t really complain. In an attempt to feel serious and focused yesterday, I wore 31 RC, today I’ll go with 24 Rue Faubourg.
Maybe that could be a future community project – wear a perfume that’s also a street address 🙂
Nice idea!
Passage d’Enfer would be my pick for the street name project. 🙂
I was going to go with an amber today, Ambre Precieux, but then smelled the remains of Hermes Iris Ukiyoe on a sweater as I was doing laundry. It seemed perfect, so I’m in that instead. Perfect for a melting-of-snow day.
Enjoy your laundry and the snow melting
Chanel No. 5 L’eau and Eau Premiere from samples. I won a typewriting award my junior year of high school. I was sooo excited. This was in the 1980s.
Oh but you smell lovely!
You smell so wonderful!
I’ve posted this before, but I wanted to watch it again today, so maybe you do too. 🙂

The authorship is complex, but David Bowie was involved with Queen in writing the song:

Also, here is information about the amazing gown that Annie Lennox is wearing in the video — apparently, the concept was her own:

I’m thinking with all that silver and black, I need Paco Rabanne Calandre parfum today. 🙂
Fun! Thank you for those links.
I vividly remember my son at about age 6 listening intently to Bohemian Rhapsody, then telling me at the end, “Mommy, that voice is perfect. Play it again.”
Have we ever done a music-related community project? Hmmm . . .
We did the Playlist project twice (match song & perfume).
Sotd: vintage Diva ????
My theme project this week is Old School Love. For me, these are perfumes I’ve loved for at least 30 years. Of course, I’ve got Friday’s choice all ready to go.????
Freshman year, I met my first high school bf in typing class. He was SO cute…????
Typing! I took typing in high school circa 1970-71. The class was notable for the presence of one of the Detroit Mafia members kids, a Giacalone kid whose first name I can’t remember anymore. He was surly, lazy, oppositional, and dumb as a box of rocks. Most of the other teachers let him slide due to his connections, but the typing teacher made him work. It was fun to watch.
SOTD is Vanille 44, because I’d like to use it up and get a better non-sweet, woody vanilla. Any suggestions?
That’s a great story! I can only think of Serge Lutens Bois vanille, it’s very nice.
Mona di Orio, Memoirs of a Trespasser, Vanille Insensée immediately come to mind.
I thought I was going to melt into the earth today:relentless Heatwave! We registered 42 celcius today. Now after sunset it is much cooler and forecast for tomorrow is 28C with thundershowers.Sounds AWESOME!
In this heat I braved Kilian Liasons Dangereuse, quite good but rapidly faded until it was gone at around 2pm.
I am loving my new routine after work:arrive home, change into swimming trunks and off to the pool! The water was “just perfect”!After that follows a stroll through the estate, hunting down more passion fruit and pear trees!I stumbled upon an impressive beehive hidden behind some dense bushes too!And of course got a nice chunk of honey in the comb Winnie the Pooh style!Apparently one of the elder residents here started this “honey factory” years ago,and encourages residents to go find it!And have some fresh honey!
Wonderful.
Surprises like this are awesome.

I’m loving your after work routine too. It sounds wonderfully relaxing.
You smelled marvelous today!
Lucky find with the honeycomb. I bet that smells pretty wonderful too.
That sounds so wonderful!
a by killian that fades..I never encountered one!
Sounds like a wonderful routine!
I’m in one of my current favorites, Pacifica Sandalwood. My local Fresh Thyme has a few of the discontinued solid perfumes left in stock and they’re at a discount, so I bought a backup. I feel so extravagant 😉
A Fresh Thyme just opened up near me, now I have a reason to check it out.
The one closest to me has a great aromatherapy section. Hope yours does too!
I am working toward finishing off my Commodity set this week. So I will be doing Layering Friday from 1/23/15 since I layer the Commodity scents.
Today I am in “Fall Morning” which is 1 spritz Gold, 1 Moss, and 2 Book. You would think with that many sprays I’d be reeking, but honestly, I can barely smell it now. That’s just as well, I can reapply when I get home and it will help me finish some samples off!
Have fun layering!!!
SOTD = Chanel No. 19 EDP
I am happy to report that the wonky atomizer kind of fixed itself; I’ll continue to watch it for the next few wearings. Boy oh boy, I needed the No. 19 today and it worked (of course, I had to do homework over the weekend). I may do a whole week of Chanel!
Today’s 24 degree F temperature was positively balmy!
Glad to hear the atomizer has smartened up.
I am going to wear the vintage No. 19 sample you sent me tomorrow for Chanuary. After an overdose of sweets lately I am aiming for greens this week.
