Thursday scent of the day 12/21

Posted by Robin on 21 December 2017 235 Comments

Happy Almost-Friday! What fragrance are you wearing?

I took a long time to decide, but I'm in Serge Lutens Rousse.

Reminder: 12/22 will be 'Tis The Season Friday...wear the perfect fragrance to celebrate, share joy and look forward to a new year. Suggested by happy888cat.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017 or Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2018, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Mmmm! That picture is making my mouth water????

Back to grindstone after 4 days off in wonderland. Super cold today, so a spritz or two of Ummagumma is warming me up.

    Happy Almost Friday Day ✌????

Just read the description of Rousse and sounds like a good winter soltice/Christmas scent.

Today I am in Perfumes de Nicolai Rose Royal which is fairly priced but not as lovely to me as Hermes Rose Ikebana unfortunately as PdeN are easier for me to get and easier on the budget.

I’m wearing Goutal’s Songes layered on top of the lovely Vanille-Narcisse bodylotion from l’Occitane. Very comforting on yet another grey and dreary day.

Thanks to perfumelover67! ????✌ I am wearing Parfum Sacre Intense, which has more black pepper, myrrh, and musk on MY skin, but is still floral and creamy and true to the original EDP.
I enjoy both, they are similar yet different, “regular” people would not need both—–I ain’t regular people! ????????????????????LOLOLOL
Interesting tidbit, hot candle wax makes an excellent hand cream. While futzing with my Vanilla Balsam last night, I spilled a puddle on my hand. Not wasteful, I massaged the molten liquid into my skin.

Let me put it this way, if I upheld traditional gender roles, the Intense is the more butch of the two.
But it is a soft and cozy butch, and probably more versatile.

Yes to wearing candles, lol! I have a small vial of the fragrant oil siphoned off of an Arquiste candle (the gals at Twisted Lily did that for me).
They do make those hand lotion candles, but I suspect they’re not much different from the regulars as you have researched already ✌

Someone here (Creosote?) taught me how to copy paste a link. You would want to paste the link first before writing anything else to avoid losing your post.

        To copy a link:
        1. while you are on the web page, tap on the square with up arrow icon
        2. Scroll through the action menu until you find Copy. I don’t know if it is standard so YMMV. My Copy icon is on the third row, after “Add To Favorites”, “Add Bookmark”, “Add to Reading List” and “Add to Home Screen”. Tap on Copy.
        3. Go to the NST comment box, then double tap to paste
        4. Voila!

I’ve put on Lush Buck’s Fizz conditioner (boozy citrus), than dabbed Future Primitive Soap Winter Solstice aromatic oil (mix of essential oils, mostly citrus, spices and resins) and then sprayed a little of Theorema, which needs no introduction here. It’s all about spicy and boozy citrusy notes for me today, and I think I smell very festive.
    Happy winter solstice!

Wow, Rousse sounds wonderful, and I don’t know why I’ve never run across mention of it before – is it discontinued? SOTD is Azemour les Oranges over a Molten Brown shower gel that smells somewhat like Eau Sauvage (it was a sample, and the name is escaping me). Turns out Azemour fits with the holiday theme pretty nicely!

I knew something didn’t look quite right – it’s Molton, not Molten (Bear’s candle wax story apparently got stuck in my brain). Anyway, the scent that reminded me of Eau Sauvage is called Bushukan. Thought you’d all want to know. 🙂

My SOTD is vintage Chanel No 5 edc – my first gift from a boy (a Christmas gift) many years ago, probably 1981?

I remember when we embraced, he smelled like Polo, wood shavings (he was a carpenter) and freshly fallen snow. One of my favorite holiday memories.

Super busy day. We are having our office holiday party tonight. Last week was our structural unit party. No complaints! I wish there were more…. ????.

Wearing just one spray of SL Arabie. Another good perfume for the holidays. Tonight, I will wear Guerlain Encense Mythique d’Orient, thanks to Elisa P. who generously sent me a sample a while ago. I am in absolute love with it. If it were not so expensive I would have bought a fb long time ago. I definitely need to save for it.

I did and I was right with my initial doubts: a co-worker who’s sensitive to some of my perfumes complained to me that it was too strong for his headache 🙁 . Since he’s not mean or two fussy, and it’s only the third perfume in 2 years that he was sensitive to, I feel kind of bad. But I love how Encense Mythique d’Orient smells on me! I’ll just have to enjoy it outside the office 🙂

It is in fact pretty strong. I had two sprays and was pretty concern that anyone else could be bothered with it. I guess that since we were at the party, people did not paid attention to it. But I enjoyed with absolute delight. I just wear one spray when I have an outside activity.

hajusuuri, I’m not sure. We just have an agreement that he lets me know if a particular scent bothers him – and I’ll avoid wearing it to the office. Yesterday was one of those few cases when he did (and I felt it was stronger than my usual office perfumes/application) so I didn’t investigate further 🙂

Today I’m wearing my sample of Tom Ford Noir de Noir, which I’ve discovered – to my consternation – I love. Does anyone have recommendations for similar fragrances that don’t cost nearly as much?

The closest I’d found from Fragranticans’ suggestion was the inexpensive Armaf Club de Nuit Intense for women. The rose note is a bit brighter (and longer lasting), but essentially they are the same to me. I blind bought it many moons ago and loved it, but got tired of it after about 30ml so ended up rehoming it. But it’s worth trying, IMO.

Hello lovelies, I’m equipped for my transcontinental flight in PoaL again 🙂 my bra smelled of roses from the Pacifica soap + Colle Noire card tucked away in them, so I decided to stick with the theme. It really is a scent to spread joy.

I am looking forward to getting to read through the SOTDs of the past few days from the cached versions I’ve got. I miss reading about your lives! Happy Thursday!

I am super excited about Winter Solstice! Really, really glad to see sunset happening progressively later.

I’m totally off-season today: ElizabethW Sweet Tea with a couple dabs of AG Le Chevrefeuille on one side, and Osmanthus Yunnan on the other. Tea + flowers!

More appropriate to the season: I love the smell of conifers. So…

This fall (October, maybe?) I got some Slumberhouse samples, and really, really like Norne. According to the site: fog caked needles, lichen, fern, moss, hemlock, incense. If you are into the smell of conifers, this stuff is lovely. Not in it today, because as much as I like it, it’s intense, and I’m a perfume wimp.

I also have Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles. Similar, but with some fruit and sweet elements. I haven’t done a side-by-side, though, so can’t offer a reasonable comparison. But again, lovely.

    Have a great day!

I am wearing Parfum Sacre today also, the edp (Lord forbid I should smell butch!). I found it when I got into my perfume cabinet to dig out Nuit de Noel, for this weekend. I only ever wear that once a year! Yesterday I wore MFK Ciel de GUM which is my new favorite. It has amber, jasmine, rose, and cinnamon—a distant cousin of Rousse, perhaps? I would like a Christmas fragrance that smells like a cinnamon-clove pomander orange. Is there such a thing?
My shopping is all done and the trip to mail packages went surprisingly well. We have summer weather, autumn leaves, and Xmas lights on the palm trees. It’s always a strange mix of seasons here in Texas in December! Last year it was 80 on Christmas and I remember people in the water in Galveston. This year it’s forecast to be a more seasonable 50, chilly for us.
Incidentally I want to urge you to go see The Shape of Water! It’s a horror, spy, fantasy, romance—original and wonderful!

Brrrrrrr. need. cozy. Heater not working. so. cold.

Okay, so compared to folks who have real ice and snow winters, I am pretty pathetic. But this balmy 53 degrees in the house is getting old. Heater mechanic is now in our basement tapping and banging and I am really hoping we get some warmth soon!

Perfume today is part of my sweater get up to warm up: Musc Ravageur from a sample I picked up yesterday at Nordies.

Last time I tried it I was “meh” about it, but in this freezing cold it feels just right under the wrists of my warmest cashmere.

It also gave me an idea for a community project–Musk day. I know folks are all over the board about musk, but there are so many iterations of it, and then there are perfumes with musk in the name that aren’t terribly musky, and vice versa.

Agree. That is chilly for indoors.

In normal conditions, we’d be like Floragal in stifling, NYC building radiator heat. But…we had the valve turned off, so our only heat is ambient from hall or surrounding apartments. As long as we don’t have an extended cold snap, we are good.

Oh brrr, hope the heat gets fixed soon. Our furnace refused to work at the beginning of the cool season. It took 3 weeks to get the parts in… then we had the appointment all scheduled and the county decided in the name of ‘efficiency for the road repair crews’ that they would close all the roads in & out of my area all day every day except Sunday for 2 weeks. We had to get them on the TV news to make them stop that nonsense. Delayed my furnace repair even further! Hope your repair goes faster.

Best of good mornings, NST. I woke super early because of knowing that we have to get up and get going down to Whanganui, you know, that tension that happens when you’re waiting to get started. It’s too early even for the kittens. I offered them breakfast, but the simply sniffed it and went back to knocking an old plastic bottle top around the floor. We would buy them any toys they wanted, but they make their own, and at the moment, the bottle top seems to offer endless fun.

So. A six hour car trip looms. That is, it will be at least six hours— it may well be longer if the kittens travel badly. I’ve chosen La Pausa as my SOTD: it’s such a civil perfume, unobtrusively elegant, dry with all that iris and vetiver, but not so much projection that it will bother the dear man, not that anything ever does, but you know what car trips are like. I’ve packed Narcisse Bleu, Vanille Galante, and a random handful of Chanel samples. We’re only away for a week or do, but I like to be prepared for a range of perfume eventualities. I’m set. Now I want to get up and get going. Come on, world, wake up.

I’m a bit uncertain of my connectivity in Whanganui, so if I cannot post again, please all accept my wishes for a wonderful end to this year. Lots of parties or rest, depending on how the time takes you. Or both, if that works. Be well.

At the dentist and gently wafting Jicky.

I’m enjoying thinking about what scent to wear for Christmas—so many lovely choices! In the end, though, I might have to go with something a bit less ‘wintery’ than usual since the temperature is supposed to be in the 70s on both X-mas Eve and Day. (That is, of course, after the swing from recent warm weather to tonight’s hard-freeze warning and cool temps tomorrow.) Sheesh, make up your mind, climate!

Have a happy Almost-Friday all you fab NSTers!

    Happy Solstice!

    1) It is frosty cold here in Portland , OR. When the dawn hit the ground was revealed to hate a silvery coating of frost, and the air was very clear. Lovely.

    2) SOTD: a combo of Sandalo soap, The Body Shop Satsuma Body Mist and V&R Spicebomb. I smell very spicy and orangey and boozy, yet fresh.

    3) Big cream color cashmere sweater, jeans and short boots today. Work party, but people are getting on my last nerve, and I can’t wait to leave on my winter break.

Ha! Totally understand the “last nerve” bit. I’m in Salem and was introduced to “freezing fog” this morning. I don’t like it. And neither does T-Rex. Poor thing hopped in the grass to piddle and was shocked by sharp blades of frozen grass. She hopped right out, and piddled on the sidewalk. Oops! Is this kind of cold normal for here? Me no likey ????

I need to revisit Emeraude; it was one of the first estate-sale vintages I found at an estate sale and I didn’t love it, but now that I’ve spent a good long time down the vintage rabbit hole I bet I would like it more. I still have that bottle!

Arz El-Rab. Enough waiting for the sinuses to clear…although, I definitely want to overspray.

Twilly last night as we headed to a Christmas concert…our final outing for the season. Absolutely lovely time. Interestingly, this was the first time I got the strong tuberose in Twilly.

Silly cats. They normally ignore the tree, but are now lurking about it. They have clean water, but I think they’re lapping at the tree water. Only solution is to actually wrap presents and get them under there to block access.

Yeah one of my cats likes to drink the tree water (yuck). He dips a paw in the tree stand and then slurps the water off his foot. We call it ‘foot drinking’ (and yes, both cats do this from their regular water bowls too).

I had a kitty who loved to paw-drink. She’d just dip her little foot into her water bowl and the lick it very assiduously. She had to be really thirsty to drink with her face!

I smell of a lot of different things today. In the morning I layered Cuir Ottoman & Belles Rives – they combined nicely into a powerful leather-iris concoction.
But then I started cleaning up the house, so a top layer of violet bathroom cleaner was added as well as some lemon polishing paste fragrance.

    At least it’s clean, ha!

SOTD = Copious Lavish Lashings of No.19 EDP

It’s my Friday! I am off starting tomorrow and back in office on January 4th.

No.19 is helping me cope with someone above my pay grade who claimed to have done many projects similar to what we’re working on now (nope, because I worked with her on THOSE projects and they were the total opposite of what we’re doing now and she had the audacity to ask am I sure when I reminded her as to what we did). Today, she had me on the phone with her team making changes live to a document and despite asking for my help, she only listened to a few of my suggestions. Anyway, all these to say I will let her flounder.

    Back to work!

We are virtual twins. Your comment reminded me of a bar in New Brunswick that serves maybe 25 types of martinis. Given that foul-tasting vermouth is an ingredient in traditional martinis (someone correct me if i am wrong), one of the recipes included “a glance at the vermouth bottle”.

As to the annoying person, even if she contacts me, I can choose to get back to her when I return from vacation.

Depends on who a person asks about martinis. Some people claim that only gin and vermouth are a proper martini, while other folks are OK with vodka subbing for the gin. I have heard from more than one source that vermouth can go off easily, making for something kind of nasty tasting.

Relax, forget about job – you’ll have more than enough of it the next year, – and enjoy your vacation.

You smell great! Aren’t you addicted yet to No 19? That’s how it starts. First you spray it once in a while because it’s beautiful and makes you feel good. Then you need it to help you to deal with unpleasant work situation. And next you know, you’re a signature-scent-type person who doesn’t wear anything else ;-P

        Me? Addicted to No.19 EDP? Nah…. 🙂

There’s something to be said about wearing it often. I used to wear 3 sprays max, maybe 4. Then, I upped it to 5, then um…8…today was the ultimate at 10 sprays.

The work will multiply, sad to say!

Still at it with “Oakmoss week”, although I am tempted to wear one of a couple of other things tomorrow that do not have that note. Yesterday’s SOTD = Cristalle EdT, from the sample stash. Good stuff, but I think it feels more like an autumn perfume to me.

Today’s SOTD = vintage Rochas Auduce, also from the sample stash. I hope that green perfumes DO make a comeback… I’ve been enjoying all the old school chypres I’ve tried lately.
