It's Monday and it's Comic Book Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am still commando, but my plan for this morning is to test Jean Paul Gaultier Scandal. If anyone has smelled it already, do comment!
Reminder: 9/29 will be Skank Friday! Wear something skanky. If you need help, try here or here. Suggested by Dawn and Ihadanidea.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
SOTW(week) – Absolue Pour Le Soir…in hefty doses..15 sprays today…on my scent eating skin this is about average for a bit of projection.
Right out of the gate?!?! Can’t wait to see what Friday brings
YUP! But this will be my scent all week.
15 sprays? OMG. I would be totally gassed out.
The weather is brutally hot and in the heat it blooms as a sweet honeyed amber…no real skank….and no one has commented so it is really not projecting…my skin is literally devouring it alive! have to place my nose up close to wrist to smell it.
Me too. I have a bottle but can’t even wear it for a full day let alone a week.
Wow! I can’t do 15 sprays of anything without getting a headache, although I tend to reaply throughout the day. Do you reaply?
Sometimes yes, sometimes no depending on whether or not I am carrying the bottle…15 sprays is nothing for me…..like I said the skin eats it up…on clothes it lasts a bit longer but certain fragrances can stain clothes so I have to be careful.
9-12 is normal for me, and even so something might disappear in an hour or two. I find it odd that people here will talk about using up a 2ml sample they’ve had for years. 2 ml is what I wear in a day, and with less than that I’m often not happy I’ve really experienced the perfume.
You and I have scent eating skin. My testing of samples usually involved dumping the whole vial.
*Tipping my invisible hat at 15 sprays of ANYTHING* ????
LOL! But this is how I have been rolling for years…
I’m with you CM8, it takes a lot of perfume to leave an impression on my – I’m at 10 sprays of angel muse today.
It’s a bummer because we have to use more, right?
On one hand it is a bummer but on the other we can test out a lot more stuff…I have been known to go through eight tester vials in one day….it completely baffles me that folks can smell or project anything with just one spray….
Wow – one spray of anything lasts me hours!
wooooowwww! that’s a lot of juice!
Wow! I like APLS and have a FB, but I’m just fine with two cautious sprays
Salome is probably the ONLY fragrance that I need to be cautious with in terms of application.
Wow 15 sprays! I can only do 3 tops. My skin doesn’t eat perfume – radiates it! Hmmm, I feel an experiment coming on – 15 sprays of something I love this weekend perhaps? But what?
It might help if you spread the sprays out all over your body so as not to fumigate yourself if you are only used to three on average
There are certain perfumes like L’Eau d’Hiver and La Pausa that I need to spray a lot. I really wonder if it is your sense of smell? APlS is a half spray for me if I were to wear it. If I wear more than 3 sprays of anything, either my husband complains or my coworkers. You must go through perfume quickly!
I think it is both my skin and my sense of smell…Mr. CM8 is highly sensitive due to allergies but my 15 sprays did not phase him in the least…and I often shove my wrist under younger family members’ noses and they also say they can barely smell it. and yes, perfume goes very fast!
Started Skank Week with an easy hitter – 4160’s Dirty Honey. Def skanky, but in a slightly classy way. Low projection and a touch of sweetness, but with that skanky honey note humming in the background.
I am going to love this week!!!
SOTD TF Oud Wood, from a swap decant.
Minimal skank, which is how I like it
You smell great.
Rubj EDP for me today- just one spray since I’m at work.
SotD Romanza, by Masque Milano.
Not really a skanky scent, saving those for the evenings. Dont want to scare my coworkers too much
As for JPG’s Scandal, i tried it on a blotter a while ago. On paper it already smelled waaaay too sweet to my taste, I just couldnt convince myself then it would work better on my skin. Later I saw the bottle discounted. The department store was discontinuing it from their collection….
Wow, that was fast!!
I think it was because they had bigger plans. A few weeks later they opened their whole new cosmetics floor, with a bunch of more exclusive/expensive brands added to their perfume collection (Amouage, Miller Harris, Tom Ford private blend, Linari…). They also have the new Serge Lutens bottles. And they are BIG and BOLD and I dont like them…
Yes, many department stores are giving the designer perfume space over to niche!
Well I am not complaining, in our small city we already had like 4 chain cosmetics stores where you can only find designer frags and zero ‘niche’/exclusives.
But in the end I prefer spending my money in the smaller independent perfume stores. Also, service is often better there, staff more knowledgeable…
…and sometimes I just dont want to be bothered by anyone at all, so yay for buying stuff online haha.
I’m easing into skank with Seville a l’aube. Overall it’s not skanky, but there is something slightly dirty in this fragrance.
Great idea, maybe I will wear that one tomorrow.
Almost did this one today and think I know what you mean about the “something slightly dirty”
Scent twins! I’ve worn Seville l’Aube for three days in a row, it’s so hot here and it smells so good. I get that hint of skank, too.
Yes, it’s very zesty with only a touch of skank, so it’s a good one for warm weather.
You know, I find almost all orange blossom (neroli? I can never remember which is which, and honestly am not positive I can smell the difference) kind of dirty. That inspires me to go dig up my own Seville a l’Aube and HG Dilettante. You know, as long as we are counting kind-of-dirty as skanky
I think everybody should decide for themselves what they think is skanky.
Steady on old girl, you’ll be flashing a bestockinged ankle next! :^D
Not all orange blossom fragrances smell dirty to me, but some definitely have this skanky aspect. Dilettante – yes, and I would also add SL Fleurs d’Oranger to the list.
In spades! The cumin is total BO on me. Blech!
Way too hot and humid for skank. Tried to wear Bond Fire Island today but the sprayer broke. Argh. I ended up in Eau des Merveilles.
Oh no! That’s terrible. I’ve never had that happen – is it relatively common?
You smell great. Maybe the universe was trying to steer you into the Hermes?
I think this is only the second time in my life I’ve had a sprayer stop working, so thankfully it’s rare. But I guess I was destined to wear Hermes today!
We are still riding a late summer heat/humidity wave that won’t subside until Thursday, so will have to wait till Thu/Fri before getting skanky.
Went with Vetiver Royal Bourbon (Oriza L Legrand) today.
Third day of my Atelier Discovery Set. Today I’m wearing Bois Blonds. i’m getting a lot of vetiver, which I enjoy.
You smell great!
Having never really grasped this whole skank concept, I thought I might as well wear fragrances with animalic notes, so I’m kind of sticking to this week’s theme. SOTD is Divine par Divine, “a lovely, powdery, buttery floral-animalic that smells lusciously expensive and isn’t”. The quote is from its review in The Guide.
Totally with you on not understanding “skank”, so I think I’m going to follow your lead. I just looked up “animalic” notes on Fragrantica and it listed Muguet Porcelaine. I wouldn’t have believed that if I hadn’t seen it, but they know better than I do so I’m going to start the week in that.
Really, in Muguet Porcelaine? Would never have guessed.
Interesting, I don’t get anything animalic from Divine, or Muguet Porcelaine for that matter. Maybe I need to wear it again and pay closer attention.
I’m wearing it now and it certainly doesn’t give me “animalic”. But it’s pretty.
Muguet is just gorgeous!
Divine “Divine” might be used to gas animals, but that’s about as close to animalic as it gets in my book. ;^)
I’m in a sample of Luxury Overdose by Absolument Parfumeur, and it isn’t luxurious, it’s confused and modern in that thin-bright-fresh manner.
Absolument Parfumeur Modern Confusion. We need to do another project where we give perfumes the names they deserve!
I love this idea! :^D
Thirding that! ????
I’m not to big on perfume related skank, but I have some I think qualify for later this week. Today I’m wearing Alien the taste of fragrance over BBW caramel apricot body butter. I smell so good I can’t hardly stand it! Thank you again to everyone’s sweet comments over the weekend. Hope it’s a good day for all:)
Mm, that sounds like a yummy combo!
It really is!
I bought the Salted Caramel Apricot body butter last week and it is really good. Yummy and not as sweet as other fall scents they have.
And not as foody smelling.
I think I have a problem with strongly scented body butters. They almost always give me headaches, whether I’m the one wearing them or whether they’re worn by someone near me. I wonder what the difference is between perfumes and body butters that makes the latter more headache-triggering for me. Different chemical compositions? Density of scent?
I’m going to guess chemical composition since something is in there to make it a butter. Ha! I sound like an idiot , but I’m going to assume you know what I’m trying to say.
Another gorgeous day out! Definitely not able to put the summer clothes away.
SOTD: Bottega Veneta Eau de Velours which is very pretty, moved it from the dabber bottle to a spray and gave myself a good 4-5 sprays.
Still see the similarity with the original but also different enough with the rose note.
I’ll have to try that new Bottega. I didn’t love the original but the Legere is one I’ve worn a lot.
SOTD: Vintage (late ‘80s/early ‘90s) Coco Parfum from the lovely crystal bottle. I love the “clink” sound the stopper makes when it touches the neck of the bottle. Not into skank, so I’ll just enjoy reading others’ picks.
Oh, those Chanel parfum bottles! I love a ground glass stopper…
You smell so sophisticated! We all smell even skankier in your presence.
And, your package is on the way Flopper! So sorry it’s getting to you much later than I had planned.
I got a partial bottle of Coco in the swap meet. It is much darker than my decant and smells very different. I don’t know its age and don’t know the history of Coco. I love my decant, but the bottled version comes on very strong. Still trying to come to grips with this. Any comments?
I think the vintage parfum is stronger/spicer. I’ve only smelled the recent EDP/EDT and not the parfum, and those two are sharper to me. My vintage bottle has the date code in yellow, MD1, and was sealed when I bought it. I do have an EDP splash from the late ‘90s, and I was the original owner of that bottle. Starts off rough but ends up smelling ok. Long story about that bottle but it wasn’t taken care of.
The only possible code I can read on the bottom of the bottle is 3121, in raised glass, but your comments about the scent are very helpful. This has certainly had at least two previous owners. Thanks so much, Flopper.
You’re welcome. My mid-1990s EDP splash is 8201. I try to figure out the date codes but it’s confusing to me. Enjoy your Coco’s!
Happy Monday Everyone! Skanky Friday, huh? What definition of “skanky” is being used? It can be interpreted so many different ways. For me, I can’t see myself wearing anything “skanky” – to me this means a scrubber. So, it will be interesting to see the different interpretations throughout the week.
My SOTD is Jo Malone’s Basil & Neroli. Didn’t realize I would like this one as much as I have. I am going to consider this a “fall” fragrance even if it isn’t considered one. I am inspired to wear fall fragrances after reading Erin’s top 10 fall list.
Honestly, any definition you want, although for me, it means dirty / earthy / animalic, not a scrubber. No point in your defining it as scrubber because then you won’t want to wear it
Oooh, I might wear this one tomorrow because it will be hoooooot.
There’s only one fragrance I can think of in my collection that qualifies as skanky, so I’m saving that one for Friday.
For today’s hot hot weather, I’m trying out a new layering combo: House of Matriarch Devotion + a light spritzing of Prada Infusion d’Oeillet.
Good morning Y’all…..
Dealing with an office scent FAIL this morning……Wearing Elie Saab Resort Collection 2017, and it is PROJECTING. Sillage is too much for even me, so I’ve scrubbed it off…and still smelling it! LOL!
This is a high quality fruit salad scent. Would be great for an outdoor event, but not my office!
Fruit salad that can’t be washed off, ack!
Poor old grinch will be hiding under his desk…
I beat him to it! LOL! I knew as soon as I walked in that he wasn’t gonna be on board with LOUD fruit salad….. It gave me a bit of a headache in the car; next time I spray one spray only, and spray low!
Supposed to be 85F again today. Again. COME ON OCTOBER!!
I’m in the slightly-skanky Dame Perfumery Soliflore Narcissus. Love it.
Oh yes that one def counts as skank and I love it too!
oh! Hello twin!!
I’m in the anti-skank JM English Pear & Freesia. Light and clean because it’s hot out and it’s always work-appropriate.
To me, English Pear & Freesia smells of young wine, just pressed and still fizzy; good stuff and very appropriate for the fall!
Huh. Interesting. I can kind of see that, especially when I first spray since there’s a vaguely salty smell I get.
One of my favorite JM, for which I still do not have a FB, but I’ll get it once I’m done with the decant I have.
You smell nice!
Thanks! I got a 30 ml discounted on ebay. It’s the only JM in recent years I’ve been compelled to own.
No SOTD yet as I just got back from Dog Park Duty, but after a shower I’m going to be sporting Queen, my best cheap blind buy ever!
Wrapping it up here in Greenville in about 3 weeks and back on the road again, hoping I hit some cool crisp weather as I travel! Still in the 80-90’s here in SC…
For Pancake lovers, I dipped into my Pumkin Spice Pancake Mix this morning and I have to say, this is a delicious mix- the spice is just right, not overpowering but wonderfully subtle. I burned one side of a pancake and it still tasted great. This is the same company that puts out Paleo Pancake Mix, Birch Benders, who tout themselves as a “micro pancakery,” which is a bit much IMO, but I really love these mixes because they are travel friendly (just add water) and wonderfully flavored. I belong to the Pro Pancake Club, can you tell? ????
Happy Monday to all!
Where are you heading next?
Well, still up in the air, but generally west. I have submitted to hospitals in Oregon, Arizona, and Colorado so far. Also considering Washington and California. California has a ton of positions, but their licensing process is right out of the dark ages. I applied in May and still “pending.” It’s almost impossible to contact a live person to follow up. Contact is STILL via snail mail! They don’t email and I think there is maybe ONE person handling calls. Wait times >30 minutes…????
That sounds very exasperating. Surprised about it though, I would have thought California to be more up to date. Well good luck with your projects where ever they may take you The colder months are great in Arizona, I spent 6 months there in the early nineties, from the end of September till April, escaping the real desert heat.
Yep, Arizona is my first choice. ????
And we have a nurse shortage statewide. Grrrrr….
Now we know why… no one can get licensed from out of state!
I had a very pumpkin weekend…pumpkin tea, pumpkin ice cream sandwiched between pumpkin waffles, pumpkin pasta sauce over pumpkin sage raviolis, pumpkin apple cider, pumpkin Cheerios, pumpkin Puffins cereal and pumpkin Milanos..oh, and Green Mountain Pumpkin coffee when I gassed up my car yesterday. I thought of you as I know you are also a fan of pumpkin
You are my PUMPKIN HERO!!
I had pumpkin ice cream and it was de-lish!
That sounds great! I may have to search some out????
You are the Pumpkin Queen! With the weather so hot here, I am not even encourage yet to try anything fall related. Hopefully next month will be a different story
maybe more the “sweet tooth queen”…I say you get yourself something nice to eat tonight given the situation with your ankle…treat yourself to something yummy….
That sounds wonderful! I’ve been listening to a podcast where people have been hating on pumpkin, so this affirmation feels nice
I love pancakes, need to try the pumpkin spice. Drowned in butter and real maple syrup of course.
I skipped the butter but did go with real maple syrup- nothing like it!
I’m very happy with Queen, too, and just bought the more recent, also cheap, scent from her. I’m excited about it.
I love it when I find something that tickles my fancy and is cheap to boot! something very satisfying about that. How did you discover Queen?
Your pumpkin pancake sounds good. I had a Rita’s Pumpkin Custard Cream with peanut butter and chocolate chips sundae and Pumpkin Spice tea. I am watching out for Pumpkin Spice coffee creamer. I hope I did not miss it already as they tend to go fast!
Rita’s has pumpkin custard?!?!? I mean, everyone has pumpkin something so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, but I guess I’ve never been to a Rita’s when they had the pumpkin flavor out. Sounds soooooo gooooood!!!
Easing into skank week with Ambre Sultan. I never thought of this as particular skanky, but it gets mentioned sometimes in that context so I thought I’d give it a try for science. There is a little bit of a ‘body’ smell to it – not exactly b.o. or musk – but I would describe the skank factor as very low.
I agree there is a teeny skank factor to Ambre Sultan. I love it though. You smell great!
I don’t get any skank from AS but from disgruntled Fragranticans, sounds like older versions smelled more challenging.
My bottle is about 12 years old, and there is a little something something going on, but it’s pretty mild (and also one of my very favorites).
On my second day of vacation. I don’t have anything planned this week except that dentist appointment on Thursday. When you have a lot of dental problems and going to a dental school, it means boatloads of appointments.
It was cooler this morning and I’ve been sitting in vintage Bal all morning. Now it’s time to take a shower and switch over to either Jicky or Nahema.
I love Jicky!
Off to Warsaw on a business trip tomorrow. The company is attending a trade exhibition so there will be a lot of talking involved.
Questioning at the police dept went fine, so at least I have that part done.
Feeling casually comfortable thanks to VC&A Moonlight Patchouli today.
Have a great trip!
SOTD Dame Perfumery Soliflore Narcissus for a skanky Monday.
Preparing the last of decants and a bottle for swapping and that is all for this gal. I am done for now.
Drinking La Croix in coconut flavor as I feel like this heat wave I should be sipping something with an island feel, also listening to Bob Marley to add to the ambiance.
Speaking of Bob Marley, I forget which NSTer it was but want to thank you again for the One Love book for my littles ones. We read it last night at bedtime and I love the universal message. Thanks again!
Hi, Scent TWin!
we smell so good!
That was me. I hope the little ones enjoy it.
Thank you! We are enjoying it.
hi lovestosmellgood! I made good progress on Spring Snow this past weekend, reading a few chapters past the young couple’s rickshaw ride through the snowstorm. I’m enjoying the story very much. Kiyoaki is a complicated young man.
Need some calm and positive attitude so I’ll go with Sylvaine Delacourte Helicriss. This is the most realistic immortelle (growing in nature and mixed with other native plants) that I managed to find, I am looking forward to receiving my travel spray of this one.
I felt like Helicriss didn’t hold a candle to my beloved Sables. I will revisit and compare side by side.
I preferred Sables too. I guess I like my immortelle in massive doses, Helicriss was too delicate.
thanks for this..I can cross Helicriss off my list….I like my immortelle massive as well…have you ever tried the essential oil? challenging to work with but absolutely delicious.
Have not tried the EO of immortelle.
I agree with you and for the same reason Sables did not work for me as I wanted my immortelle to smell like the places where I grew up and where I would catch that smell in the air (mixed with odors of other Mediterranean scrubs and lots of stones). Sables to me smells of how immortelle is rendered in perfumes, which is much stronger.
Got my travel spray in the mail today!
Have you tried Corsica Furiosa? It has some great scrub notes.
Yes, I did and I remember it as a bit harsh to my nose, but I should try it again and possibly compare to Helicriss (now that I have two little bottles of it). But I wonder, have you found anything that smells to you of shrubbery in SoCal? It seems there are several nocal (mostly forest) or LA (gardens?) fragrances, but how about some dry coastal scrub or chaparral?
I suggest Parfum d’ Empire Tabac Tabou.
I think I can probably do a whole week of skank (mostly of the cumin variety), so I’m kicking it off with the last little bit of a sample of Rubj.
As Deva said, it’s still HOT in SC. Wearing Philosykos and dreaming of sweater weather.
You smell delightfully figgy fresh!
You smell great in Philosykos.
My SOTD is Rodin No. 3…it’s another hot day here and I may as well wear a summer fragrance while I can.
Can you tell us about your experience of #3?
SOTD: Lalique Encre Noire à l’Extrême.
Ooh Skank Friday, can’t wait!
Wearing Chanel No. 19 EdT and smelling really beautiful (2 compliments already!), while I wait in the ER after I twisted my ankle and fell at the subway station early this morning on my way to work. I do not learn yet that sometimes rushing does not have a good end.
I am waiting for the results of x-rays and hoping there is no fracture. I was able to reach work, but after an hour the pain was unbereable. Hoping for the best and considering myself very lucky compared to other people I see around me here.
I do not really have any shanky perfumes, except for Dzing and Bond No.9 New York Oud. I will wear them later this week. For sure the warm weather will make them shankier!
Going to read now what you all are wearing today.
oh no! I hope you heal quickly and that it isn’t broken!
Oh dear I’m sorry to read of your bad fall. The down side of not being as badly off as others at the ER waiting room is that you’ll have to wait longer. And I too hope you don’t have a broken ankle. At least you are uplifting people there with your nice scent!
You are right. I am still waiting. Hope to be out of here TODAY!
oh! I am sorry for this!
Let us know the results!
Really hoping it is not broken, and you recover quickly.
OY! I hope that your ankle is just twisted, not broken- and next time, remember there is ALWAYS another train!
I’m sorry to hear that, ouch! Hoping for the best outcome.
So sorry to hear this – hoping it’s not a fracture – keep us posted!
So sorry about your fall, hope it heals quickly.
Ouch. Sorry that’s how your day started. I’ve tripped in the stairs numerous times trying to run for the train. Not worth it. Hope nothing’s broken!
I’m so sorry you’re hurting. Hope you are out of the ER and home soon. Take good care.
Thank you everyone. Still waiting and becoming impatient. Fortunately, I was carrying my phone charger so I can keep browsing online without running out of battery.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery!!
Oh no! Hoping nothing is broken!
You smell great! I hope nothing’s broken and you can go home soon.
Oh boy. I hope you heal quickly!
Ow ow ow ow! Ankle injuries are some of the worst… I broke one of mine as a kid. I sincerely hope that yours is not broken!
Oh no! Hope that you made it home ok and that you got good news at the hospital.
Yikes. I hope nothing is broken!
Wearing the last of my Serge Lutens MKK sample. Would anyone be interested in a swap? I really would like some more of this one!
What is MKK? I likely don’t have it but curious.
Muscs Koublaï Khan
Thank you, but no I don’t have it.
So hot!! I’m not a big connoisseur of skank, wearing SSS Jour Ensoleille. Someone mentioned it over the weekend and I haven’t worn it recently. It’s borderline too strong for the heat, though!
Not sure it counts as skank, but wearing Azemour. It’s hot and humid, and the mossiness puts this one into skank territory on me. Saving vintage Arpege and Cabochard for later in the week.
I didn’t realize vintage Cabochard was concidered skanky. I love Cabochard, but not skank, so i will pretend it isn’t so.
It could be me, lillyjo. But I love it anyway!
Yeah, I guess either way, it smells pretty awesome.
It is gorgeous fall weather here, cool and overcast but supposed to be sunny later. I have loads of “skanky” perfumes, but like the civet note best, so I’m starting out with an oldie but a goodie–Avon “Occur!” Fragrantica says it was released in 1963 and it’s one of those everything-but-the-kitchen-sink blended florals of yesteryear. This one is heavy on the civet, oakmoss, and musk. I got mine from ebay and it was really inexpensive.
Yes! Those old Avon scents are marvelous. I have an Avon beehive bottle with a honeysuckle cologne that still smells great. As a teen I was given a bottle of Candid. I didn’t wear it much then but I would love to wear it now. There’s probably something niche that smells just like it and costs 10 times more, lol.
My very first bottle of perfume was a gift from my mother at the age of six…Avon Field Flowers…thus began my perfume obsession…Avon always had some really great stuff at ridiculously cheap prices…Ariane, Candid, Occur, Timeless, Sweet Honesty, Imari……as Tiffanie stated above, by today’s standards many of the old Avon’s would be comparable to niche and cost a whole lot more!
1) A mild fall-ish day. Am in my lovely and trusty Boucheron for the fall season. I just love this scent because it becomes a pretty flowery spicy powder that hugs your skin and when you give people a hug everyone is all “Oh, but you smell so good!”
2) Y’all should see all the figs, plums and grapes I have been gleaning! I think I may make some fig syrup and plum jam this season.
Plum jam is so good! I haven’t made any in several years.
(But there was an entire box of bananas left over from the high school cross-country meet on Saturday… I think they were actually leftover from the JV football game on Thursday and someone brought them to the meet to get rid of them, because they were SUPER overripe. So I mashed them up and froze them. 19 cups, yes, 19! cups of mashed banana in my freezer now. I can make 19 loaves of banana bread. )
My cousin sent me a news story about a woman who had a freezer filled only with overripe bananas but died without ever making banana bread. I don’t know why she sent that to me.
ha! I just went to my freezer and threw away the old bananas. I’m sure I’ll have more overripe ones in a few days.
I already made three loaves of banana bread. 16 to go.
I’m in AG Grand Amour…swapmeet spoils!
It is old school lovely and I am wondering if it is the EDT or EDP.
I’m tired. Have had one cup of coffee, a cup of black tea and now moving on to jasmine green tea for the finale!
I wanted to ask what folks think about the La Pausa EDP please?
I found the EDT beautiful but it was so fleeting I never pursued it.
I have been interested in all things iris of late and am wondering how people like the EDP…
I’ve been on an iris kick lately too. I’m also curious about the edp. Only tried the edt and thought it was very pretty but fleeting.
i am jealous of you and your SOTD
Grand Amour is on my long FB list, but other AG are before her
Did I send it to you? If so, I don’t actually know. My bottle doesn’t say which it is.
Yeah, I don’t think I’ll manage to follow this week’s community project. Today, I am–like many of you–in swapmeet treats. Two hefty sprays of MH Geranium Bourbon ought to keep me afloat on this sleepy Monday
My old voice teacher from back when I lived here before leaving to do my PhD asked me to audition for a role in an upcoming opera. She asked me this last night. Not wanting to violate after-hours noise restrictions, I didn’t get to practice last night or this morning. In fact, I haven’t really practiced opera since last December–you know, right before I needed to defend my thesis. So. Clearly this audition is going to go wonderfully. (What’s the top of my range nowadays? I have no idea! What kind of vocal agility have I got? No clue!) I’ve chosen an audition piece that relies more on emotion than on technical skill; hopefully I won’t embarrass myself with that. Cross your fingers for me.
Good luck Koyel, what an interesting turn of events!
Good luck! I’m sure you’ll do great.
Wow that is amazing!! ????
Let us know how it goes!!!
Fingers crossed! You will do great!
Good luck! Don’t stress over it: if it meant to be, it’ll happen; if not – then it’ll be for the best even if it doesn’t feel like that at the moment.
Woo hoo and good luck. Keeping my fingers, toes and eyes crossed for you!
Good morning, NST, everywhere. I’m being resolute about spring: it may think it’s going to slide away and elude me, but it’s got NO CHANCE, and I hope it’s listening. So, because spring IS has arrived, albeit a little tentatively, I’m wearing Cashmere Mist. It doesn’t get a lot of love here, but I really like it. I thinks it’s warm and pretty, sweet, soft and girly, and it suits my move into flowing pleated skirts, lace undershirts and lighter jackets, and all that spring clobber. Skanky and sophisticated it isn’t: pretty and undemanding it is. Sometimes “pretty” is plenty.
Titus and Alexander are playing train robbers. Titus is tunnelling under the duvet, and Alexander is leaping on the moving train, trying to hold him up. The chaos from this good game is astounding, but I wouldn’t seek to distract them, because it saves chaos somewhere else where it would even more annoying. Eric is watching, not participating, but clearly taking it all in. This is ominous: he’s probably working out ten ways to produce more chaos with only half the effort.
Be well, all.
I love Cashmere Mist. It smells relaxing to me.
We call that game “Bed Monsters” at our house.
I like Cashmere Mist. I always wear it when I need something inviting and cozy. You smell great!
Works been too busy for more than the occasional peek here – Wah! – but just a note that I am loving the new Trudon perfumes. Or at least Bruma, Deux, and which I am wearing today, and Revolution. I haven’t fully explored the others yet. I even bought a full bottle of Bruma and can attest that the bottles and sturdy glass caps are amazing. So a perfume win all around for me, even if 100ml is a ridiculous amount.
Cheers to all!
I’m sooo tempted by the travel set. I think I liked all of them and they all seem really wearable. Enjoy your bottle!
Go for it! It is a great deal and they are incredibly wearable. They have been perfect for the heat whilst one is trying to appear grownup, my current state.
Great to hear, I am planning on sampling these as soon as I get to the US next month. Looking forward to hearing more about them as you explore!
SotD = Prada Les Infusions Amande
Amande is the opposite of skanky. Perfect for this Monday of hot weather and a scheduled power outage from 2 to 5 pm. What’s worse, no internet or no A/C? Tough choice.
Another hard question, have you counted your full bottles recently? or ever? No need to answer, but I was asked this weekend, so I counted all bottles 30 ml and larger. Turns out I have 25% more FBs than I thought. Whoops!
You smell wonderful.
gee, thanks. I think Amande is pretty great.
I love that stuff. Powdery almonds will get me every time.
I used to be so incredibly disciplined in that I never allowed myself to exceed 10 bottles…this went on for about forty years…then I discovered perfume blogs and samples and decants became available and all h**ll broke loose!!! Now , I am not sure how many are technically mine in my house as we share everything (including those I gifted to family members) and everything is scattered in various bedrooms , bathrooms and in the basement and even at college…but if I had to guess, maybe 30-40 beyond 30ml bottles in the CM8 household? That is an interesting question…I may inventory when I get home!
Just counted ….28….what is your magic number ?
Like my age (and a few other things) I’ll never tell. Lol!
I bow to your self-discipline.
Your number of FBs is about what I thought I had before I counted!
I wore that one yesterday. I loved it! You smell wonderful!
Yay! We’re time-shifted scent twins.
Agree Amande is wonderful. I will have a hard time deciding what to do when my samples and decant run dry.
Not only I count them, I keep a list in Excel spreadsheet. Offhand, without checking the spreadsheet, I thought it’s between 25 and 30. Turns out it’s 26 (27 with that Cristall backup bottle). But I have tons of decants and samples.
I admire you’re organizational prowess!
I have a database of most perfumes I have, including all sizes of bottles, decants and samples. My rule is: I do not test new perfumes before I enter it into the database (though sometimes I allow myself a day or two lag between the first try and the recording but I record the use of it – and later add the perfume itself). So I know exactly how many bottles I have at any given moment. Much more than anybody needs but less than some other perfumistas I know
That’s fabulous! Knowing how many bottles are on hand is important. I was completely in the dark until I counted them a few days ago. I really should record more info. I just track my sotd.
Too many to count, but likely over 700. And yes I know I am completely nuts.
I LOVE this. It makes me feel so much better about my count! You also live in two places, right, so you can’t be moving perfume around all the time?!
Yes, this is part of why it’s so big, half is in Montreal and half is in San Diego. Not that 350 is in any way reasonable either!
Thank you for sharing that!!! I feel even better now about my collection
My only question is: how do you decide what to wear each day? Do you have any special system for that?
No, I go strictly by mood, usually I wake up with a feeling about what I want to wear that day.
Completely nuts is the same as wholeheartedly committed, also absolutely marvelous!
Wow! wow! wow! I am speechless
Not going with the theme on a work day, but will be wearing the always suitable L’Heure Bleue.
We have the builders in re-pointing the brickwork on our house, so skank would be a bad idea for me today. I am subtle in Gucci by Gucci instead.
Although builders supposedly can get quite sweaty – it could have been considered skank solidarity…
I never thought of that. They did get rained on for much of the day though, so I think they probably were happier to have been brought tea and chocolate biscuits!
I’m in Cuir Ottoman today. Nothing skanky to me about this one, just iris and suede. Perfect for this fall day we are having.
Can’t decide what to take to Korea. I want something pretty and not overwhelming. Decisions, decisions…
Oooh love thinking about travel perfumes Do you know what the weather will be like while you are there, and do you know anything about the social attitudes toward scented products? All I know is that they aren’t a big fan of aggressive air conditioning, so summers can get hotter than expected based on the outside temperatures.
Maybe,, Kenzo Flower?
I always think about it waaay to much but then just end up taking a few of my favorites plus an unscented oil that you can multi purpose by adding fragrance to it if you like.
Wearing Carner Barcelona Cuirs. It might have completely faded by the time I teach my class this afternoon, but it has been soothing so far today.
A few days away from NST and I feel so out of touch! Woo-hoo for skank week!
No skank today, though. SOTD is Atelier Cafe Tuberosa, from a sample I got at Sephora over the weekend. The coffee blast is awesome but only lasts about 30 seconds. The rest is nothing groundbreaking, but I am loving wearing it. I also tested Gabrielle and have to agree with what many others have said — seems to be a watered-down ghost of Coco Mad. Coco Mad smells like some kind of solvent or cleaning product to me, and Gabrielle was MUCH more wearable. I didn’t have to scrub it, but it certainly didn’t tempt me.
I went to a play last Friday and was sitting next to an older gentleman who had a clean lotion-y smell. It was so pleasant I almost asked him if he was wearing lotion and what kind, but he pretty much had his eyes closed the whole time haha!
I like Cafe Tuberosa as well. You are smelling good
I’ve been smitten with Cafe Tuberosa, I like the drydown more than the opening, myself.
I agree, it is yummy! I wonder if this one will hit the discounters in a couple months??
HA! I tested both of those at Sephora this weekend. I oversprayed the AC so couldn’t smell Gabrielle very well even though I sprayed one little patch of my wrist with it about 8 times. ACs almost always have major projection on me and Cafe Tuberosa was HUGE on my skin. It also ended up being a HUGE scrubber for me; what I smelled of the Chanel was not terribly exciting, though I did get the Coco Mlle connection. I’d be up for trying Gabrielle again.
First skank scent of the week was Eris “Night Flower”.
Top: bergamot, birch and cardamom;
Mid: suede, tuberose and cinnamon;
Base: patchouli, tonka and musk.
I am usually anosmic to musk but can appreciate this one. Of course teh downside of a 5am start and a morning flight is no scent can really survive much beyond lunchtime. Given how this is a make-or-break week for us to show consummate professionalism, I’m tickled at the thought of doing it while smelling like a skanky ho. (Well, I am a contractor after all…)
I don’t really get skank from Night Flower (although I should!) My wacky skin reads it as a lush floral. I like it but like you experienced it doesn’t last very long.
Lol, I like the way you think. I’m tickled right along with you:)
Subversive skanky scent! I had to smile at that thought, too.
I’m kind of shocked at myself for selecting MKK to start the week, but I used only a few dabs. My work is supposed to be scent free, though no one enforces it and I smell perfume on others. However, the coworker I share an office with is fairly perfume sensitive so I try to be considerate of her. Anyway, the few dabs have worn off completely and now I’m scentless!
I’m amazed and impressed. All the way from France, I received my 1000 Flowers order. In a padded envelope! With a sample of Narcotic Flowers. I ordered Reglisse Noire.
About 2 years ago, I received a very small inheritance and decided to buy a bottle of Iris Ganache. It came from UAE in a mylar envelope with a bunch of plastic bags wrapped around the bottle as the padding. I almost had a heart attack when it came, but it was in good condition!!
Ha isn’t that funny! I ordered a bottle of Kalamat from Saudi Arabia (or UAE, I don’t remember) and it was in a brown padded envelope with plastic bags around the box also!! And when I ship things within the US I use a box and packing peanuts or other filler, and worry until I know everything arrived in tact!
hehe! I guess plastic bags, when enough are used, are a decent substitute for bubble wrap!
Hey flopper, did you know there’s an Arabian Oud boutique in the heart of Times Square???
I did not know that! Have you shopped there?
Tuesday in spring. A crisp start to what looks like it will be a pretty nice day. Lots of potentially trying things to do at work today and French class afterwards so wearing Cuir de Russie EdP.
You smell divine! Very appropriate choice for French class
Much too warm today for skank so I went with No 19 Poudre. It sort of reminds me of Au Dela by Bruno Fazzolari. I’m wondering if anyone else noted this comparison? Anyway, I sprayed AM and at noon. Since it faded, I’m trying my first spritz of Mexique. It is beautiful but remarkably similar to the EDP.
Inspired by Lovestosmellgood, I started testing some samples from Annick Goutal over the weekend, and continued doing so today. SOTD = AG Folavril. What a pretty floral! Perfect match for my weather today, too!
Bear inspired my extra-long workout today. So kudos to two NSTers!
Good work, Jalapeno !
I wish they would bring Folavril back, such a great scent.
SOTD = Guerlain Mon Precieux Nectar
This is another one of my practically all season perfumes…so pretty.
One day business trips are nice and horrible at the same time. Nice because I don’t have to pack and I get to go home to my own bed. Horrible because the commute can be looooooong and really a waste of time I could use to catch up on work that is not conducive to doing while commuting. Anyway, all these to say I have one such day to break up the week on hump day. The trip is for a very good reason but wah, I can’t afford the time!
You can never do all the work you think you need to – stop stressing about it!
If you use public transportation, you should read something interesting – you won’t notice the trip time. If you have to drive – audio books!
Posting super late but participated today in FM Musc Ravageur. I read both previous posts Robin linked. I was surprised by all the perfumes people cited as skanky that I’ve worn and never noted as one bit skanky. I thought I’d wear some of them this week and look for the skank. Didn’t smell any in FM MR, so there you go. I suspect I either have a high tolerance or that my skin tones it down, but think it’s more the latter.
