Monday scent of the day 7/31

Posted by Robin on 31 July 2017 234 Comments

Sugared Raspberry Cake

Monday, but also JK Rowling's birthday and Raspberry Cake Day. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm starting the week with vetiver: Paul Smith Story and Guerlain Vetiver.

Reminder: 8/4 will be Compare & Contrast Friday...wear two perfumes with the same note. Suggested by thegoddessrena.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Now you’very given me a lemming for a raspberry cake.

Heatwave day 1 here today. 36*C in some regions of Poland. 28*C for me so far. Survival mode includes having a delicious Italian style dinner and going for a swim later in the afternoon.

Jul et Mad Aqua Sextius feels refreshing today.

SOTD: La Petite Robe Noire parfum.

Robin, I was thinking maybe we can do a fall fragrance friday sometime in September called: Here’s “To Autumn” Friday.
Wearing a fragrance you feel fitting John Keats’ beautiful poem – To Autumn?

This morning I put on Guerlain L’Instant. It is so pretty. I am not sure why I don’t wear it more. It is one of my older bottles, so it is tucked away in my nightstand drawer. Out of sight, out of mind I guess.

Sometime last week I dreamed I couldn’t decide between two of my favorite orange blossom scents, L’Artisan Seville l’aube and Hermes 24 Faubourg, so I wore both. When I woke up I realized my 24 F was in storage so I just went with the Seville l’aube. But in honor of our Friday theme I am wearing them both today, one on each arm. They actually smell pretty good together!

This week’s project is gonna be fun! Today’s theme is (you guessed it) neroli. I’m in Sarabecca Neroli oil + Kiehl’s Musk. I know I’ve posted here about this combo before, but it’s become one of my favorites. Kiehl’s Musk has a listed neroli note, but I don’t normally notice it when I wear it alone. With the Neroli oil, that note really comes to the fore.

Stay tuned for Friday, when I will wear *all of my neroli perfumes at the same time*

    Just kidding.

    …or am I?

Guerlain’s Neroli Outrenoir for me today. Another beautiful day, but I think the humidity is picking up.
I’m sad to have missed raspberry picking season this year. Fresh picked raspberries have nothing on store bought.
And speaking of store bought fruit, I picked up a box of concord grapes (my favorite fruit) and was SO disappointed! They were seedless, which I’ve not seen before, and had absolutely no smell or flavor. Kind of like seedless watermelon!

What do the seeds have to do with it? (it’s a serious question, because if the seeds affect the taste I did not know, and I’d like to know.) We get some amazing seedless grapes from our fruit CSA every year, several varieties, and they are so good I’m trying to talk my husband into ripping out our concord grape vines and replacing them with something that tastes better.

Store bought grapes are never as good as what we get from the CSA, seeds or no seeds. I admittedly don’t know a darned thing about fruit growing / breeding, but I always assume tasteless fruit was not grown properly or was shipped too early to avoid spoilage.

This is just my experience, especially with watermelon. Could be I got a bad batch with the grapes? Not sure if there’s scientific evidence or what exactly the seed adds to the fruit.
I hear so many good things about CSAs that I really need to give this a try for a season.
Would love to have concord grapes in my yard!

Thanks! Agree about watermelon, I never buy it in stores anymore.

Our CSA is fantastic — I do 15 weeks starting early August (my first pickup is Weds, actually) and I’ve been doing it for about 6 years. Peaches, plums, nectarines, grapes, apples, Asian pears. At the end of the 15 week run I order enough apples & Asian pears to last me into early February, so it ends up covering a decent portion of the year. It’s always a serious drag in February to have to go back to “normal” fruit :-)

These days too much produce is bred for 1) size and 2) ship ability. Taste is not the priority. I bought some small nectarines the other day and hat were being promoted on the basis of their smaller size and better flavor.

And to add to your list: also bred for shelf-stability. Some produce will have been picked months, if not years (apples, potatoes, etc.) before they hit grocery store shelves.

sampling CdG Odeur 71, interesting, I’ll repeat it tomorrow with a more generous spray. In any case not at all as weird as I expected from the descriptions, more woody-green-incense-y (than electricity – burning light bulbs-plastic-office printers or whatever).

SOTD is Frangipani. Feels very summery and tropical. I’m pretty sure my next purchase will be an OJ. I just have to decide if I want a FB or one of those cute discovery sets luckyscent has.
Robin, has there ever been a Friday community project to wear your favorite Geza Schoen fragrance?

Happy birthday to JK Rowling! All three of my kids are huge Harry Potter fans. It’s hard to believe it’s been a decade since the release of book 7. I can still remember taking my oldest- who would have been 10 at the time- to the release party at our local Border’s. It was officially for purchase at midnight and I think we were there til about 3 am until he finally had his copy. My youngest had the greatest advantage with not having to wait for any to be published. She devoured all 7 books the summer between second and third grades, quite an accomplishment I thought!

You smell great. Frangipani quickly became a big favorite of mine – travel spray is in the purse.

I too loved Harry Potter. Children’s (and YA) literature has interested me since I took a course in college. Bought the first HP book the day it went on sale in the U.S. Boarding school plus magic is a double dose of catnip to me.

OJ Travel sets are not much worse per ml than a FB but you’ll have more flexibility to both take it with you to refresh (Frangipanie isn’t the most tenacious perfume ;) ) and swap/sell an extra travel spray if you decide to do so. Have you subscribed already to their newsletter? From time to time they have % off promotions or special prices/events. Not too often but several times a year I saw those.

I have been in and out of the rabbit hole for the last 10 years and am looking forward to sharing experiences with this amazing community! I would also like to bestow honorary enabler pins and lemming badges to everyone here, as there are just too many to name! ????

Late start this awesome Monday, but inspired by Robin, I just bathed in Geurlain Vertiver. It’s T-Rex approved and I was given a thorough sniff and ambushed by a full body roll.

Slowly recovering from 3 busy days and have no special plans except R&R. Heading to Asheville tomorrow to visit an old friend for a couple of days. Said friend has 7 year old twins and T-Rex will be in heaven since she loves kids. Limiting myself to one bottle for the trip and trying to decide which is most versatile…

You guys might not know this, but J K Rowling is not the most important person in the world with this birthday. Neither are Harry Potter or Juliet Capulet. Nope nope, it’s meeeeeeee! So happy 30th (gasp! gulp!) birthday to meeeeeeee!

To celebrate, I put on three sprays of Trayee and my boyfriend refused to come close to me. Also to celebrate, my day today is going to be super duper busy, in preparation for presentations tomorrow and on Wednesday. Woohoo.

Goodbye, sweet 20s! You were a good decade.

Combo of roses for me today. Stella on one wrist. Une Zeste de Rose on the other.

    SotD French Lover.
Back to work after my one week staycation.

When i woke up I still smelled Romanza (put it on yesterday evening, wow, such a great scent).

And happy bday to JK Rowling.
Yesterday I Watched ‘Fantastic beasts…’. It had so many flaws (CGI was not good, some scenes were too long, messy plot), but it was nice to see that whole magical Harry Potter universe in NYC in the roaring 20s.
But if you are not already familiar with/o the franchise, you can skip it!

    • Jiji says:

That /o was not supposed to be there.

Anyways, this movie will not make you love the franchise all of a sudden and is not a good introduction.

I read all HP books and saw all movies by the way. Though I sometimes cursed JK Rowling for making the books longer and longer (quantity does not equal quality here).
But she sure has build a nice universe and some interesting characters!

Going commando so far today…was in a rush to get dressed & out of the house, and then it turned out I didn’t have to leave the house. But I’m getting whiffs of palmarosa every time I move my arms…I’m giving a natural, DIY deodorant a whirl (one good reason, probably, to be working from home today; I’m not optimistic this is going to work but still wanted to give a natural deodorant a try).

    Happy Monday, scented people!

    1) Happy Birthday to JKR- long may she live!

    2) And goodbye to Jeanne Moreau *curtsys*

    3) Let’s pour one out for Lady Oleanna, shall we?

    4) SOTD: Kai- body wash + perfume (both samples). Jasmine _tuberose + white musk; very, very Los Angeles circa 2002 or so, where both men and women in Santa Monica were wearing this.

    5) This week in PDX is going to be stunningly hot- a project high of 106, with some areas reaching a possible 110F. Boss already told me to just come into work, where it will be cool, and we have showers, beds & A/C at the plant. I will not be surprised if there are brownouts.

Happy birthday JKR, HP, and Koyel! I have lots of birthday offers in my email this morning because I always put Harry’s birthday down when nosy online sites ask for one. On my walk today I went past a little strip of fruit trees, to which the owner had affixed a sign reading, “Do not eat the dirigible plums.”

I am wearing three lilacs today, both arms plus cleavage. En Passant on the left, Desarmant in the middle, and Roja Dove Lilac on the right. All are really pretty interpretations of the note.

Amyris is the only one that has lasted more than a couple of hours, and the next time I have the opportunity I’ll blast it on to get a better feel for it. I can see it as something I’d wear when I’m looking for an uncomplicated, pretty scent. Bergamote Boisee and Eau d’Orange Verte were too fleeting to keep my interest. Iris di Firenze was also quite fleeting, and I suspect that I’m more enamored with the idea of this house than the actual perfumes. ;)

Didn’t sleep well at all and my stomach felt unsettled today so wanted something light and easy- Bvlgari Eau Thé Vert which I haven’t worn in ages. I probably should have skipped scent altogether since even this feels like too much, and is making me a little queasy at times. It’s actually a warmer scent scent than I akways think it is. It has that creamy, Nivea-ish smell to me.
    Live & learn.

Morning, all. Bad night: Dakkie yodelled endlessly and the kittens played, intermittently, but with incredible energy. Hostilities are diminishing, though–just occasional border skirmishes now– so we are hopeful that Dakkie will relax soon and that the tiny tartars will come to see him as a big brother. To celebrate these hopeful developments, I’m wearing Beloved, because they all are. I don’t know that it suits my jeans-boots-jacket outfit, because it’s such a very feminine scent. Beloved always smells to me as if it should be worn with a full-skirted, waisted dress, high heels and the suggestion of a seductive smile. Oh well….mismatches happen on Tuesdays. Be well, all.

Have you tried the Amouage Lilac scent…is it Lilac Love? Can’t remember. Any impressions?

I’ve tried it – found it exceedingly powdery and doesn’t have a trace of lilac.

Waterdragon, how easily I can picture that kitty-cat battle! I don’t know if you’re on Facebook, but if you are, do look up Grandpa Mason and his kittens. He’s an old, formerly-feral cat who has terminal kidney disease who “fosters” motherless kittens. Loves his kittens, but is still ferocious to the people who care for him. The videos of this battle-scarred old warrior playing with tiny kittens is heartwarming (and I don’t have a heart that’s easily warmed!).

Started out the day with LL Ylang 49, which was too sweet for me.

Added Al Rehab Choco Musk (not sure why I thought this would be less sweet), and layered it with Dame Citrus Man and Musk Man. They both are nice, but the Musk layer blends better.

I hope everyone is having a great Tuesday!

I wore a very strange combination of scents yesterday and it was wonderful….Amouage Interlude layered with Smell Bent San Tropez thingy. I was kind of horrified at myself for combining the two.
Also, been wearing a lot of Lush All Good Things and it’s really good, bit leathery, peaty, bitter. Seems to match Juliana Hatfield’s autobiography that I’m reading: music clubs and bars and life on the road.

    Eagerly awaited package
No scissors handy – torn open with bare hands
    Confusion
    These are not my samples
    This is not my perfume
This was supposed to go to Seattle
    I’m sorry, Seattle
Perhaps you are also disappointed today
Our sadness mirrored across the miles
    More days of waiting ahead
    Until joy reflected
You in your oud and me in my rice pudding

Kulfi by L’Aromatica! I actually tested it about a year ago and it has been on my want list. I finally caved and hope it’s as good as I remember!

I hope it will be quick, as well — I was really looking forward to that creamy saffron goodness.

I have never had the opportunity to eat kulfi (although I think I need to seek it out!) so when I smelled the perfume, I thought of very cold rice pudding with saffron and cardamom. I hope you enjoy your sample!

Still a bit bummed, but creating the little poem helped my mood :) And I’m so glad I de-lurked today of all days so I could share my disappointment with people who understand!

Wearing Philosykos edit today, usually this is very fleeting, but it’s lasted most of the day today.
Visited Lush with my Kids on Saturday, they had such fun watching the fizzing rocket, I had to buy them one each. Was sad to be told that Kerbside Violet is being discontinued, along with Daddy O, and something else with violet in according to the SA.. Why oh why have they got it in for Violet?!

Gosh, you all smell wonderful today. Imagine if we could spritz together!

SotD = Infusion d’Iris EdT, I hope it will still feel great in the heat. We’ve had mild-ish summer weather (no need for AC for the past week) but things are getting hot today.

To me the EdT smells related but different from the EdP and Absolue. It resembles Prada’s Amande more, which I love as well.

I bought some plums today, sadly they are not dirigible plums. Also brought home a box of delicious blueberries each as big as a dime.

Raspberry cake? If it’s a variation of strawberry shortcake, sure!

SOTD = Tocca’s Cleopatra, from the sample stash. I am going to try and get thru some untested samples for most of this week. Seeing Holly post about reeking havoc has strengthened my resolve. (Why does the word “strengthened” look so very wrong? Must be a case of the Mondays.)

I needed a serious lift this morning, so after showering with Rose Jam, I decided I had to keep the sweet rosy vibe going with the perfume version. It’s helping my day immensely. I’m pulling a beeswax note from it now, some 7 hours after spraying.

One of those crazy days…..Just now checking in, 3 hours before time for the TUESDAY scent of the day! LOL!

Ended up in many scents today….Started out in Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere. Then ended up at Ulta with my 13 yr old, because she NEEDED some powder. Of course I NEEDED one of the new OPI fall nail polishes (from the Iceland collection)! LOL Also ended up sampling the new Ralph Lauren Woman and DKNY Nectar. Both pretty good! Then got home and dusted my perfume bottles, and sprayed some Eliz Arden Green Tea Bamboo just to remember it. I smell pretty darn good at the moment! :)

Now time for a shower and a new scent for bedtime……LOL!

OMG! I am sooo late to the party!

    SOTD = Arielle Shoshana EDP

How fabulous do I smell? Very! I bought 4 samples and gave away 3. I had worn my sample 3x already and it is still half full. I think it multiplies inside the atomizer.

I had a challenging night last night and this morning. Last evening, I ran over what I thought was a dead squirrel. Nope. Whatever it was, I heard a pop but kept going as I was a few miles away from home. Sure enough, flat tire. Thank goodness for AAA (American Automobile Association), someone came by and changed the tire with a temporary donut which I can use this week until I can get to a tire shop. The 2nd problem came this morning when I couldn’t disengage the emergency brake. Another call to AAA and all was well. But now I have to waste time this weekend to get a new tire…or maybe 4 new ones…we’ll see.

I think someone should come up with a Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit ringtone.

I hate car troubles! A couple of months ago I had two flat tires within 10 days.
You smelled good though for the person who helped you with the break (had that as well not long ago… I think I need a new car :) ).

Happy Birthday JK! Anyone remember the Northeast Blackout in August 2003? I had just gotten into HP book five, The Order of the Phoenix and spent that Thursday night reading until it got dark, then continuing with a flashlight! Power was back on the next morning at 6:00 am. People would freak out now considering the increased use of tech devices since then!
