Happy Sports Friday! (And, happy World Chocolate Day.) Our community project for today: wear a sports scent! If you just can't go there, wear the sort of fragrance you think one might actually wear while doing something sporty.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
After a week of perfect weather, we are expecting rain today. My sporting plans: finish the really nasty sections of the jigsaw puzzle we started yesterday. As a sign of support for the Tour de France cyclists, see if I can eat the 6000 calories they burn each day. Perhaps a wee nap? My scent for all of that is the ever-versatile Terre d'Hermès.
Reminder: on 7/14 we're celebrating Bastille Day! See if you might possibly have anything French in your collection? Extra points for extra-French-ness, or for silly perfume Frenchification.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Chatham-1 Step-Thru Single-Speed Beach Cruiser Bike by Critical Cycles is on mark down, $179.99.
I heartily approve of your vacation activities Robin
Wearing Eiderantler from January Scent Project over La Tulipe body milk.
I smell of ferns and flowers and not sporty at all, but the combination is very pleasant.
Thank you! Today was our absolute laziest day so far, and I might really have eaten a biker’s ration of food.
I’m wearing Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche. Don’t know if it’s that sporty, but it’s an easy refreshing wear.
Nice bike in the photo, sort of simplistic retro looking.
If I had it, I would wear it today as well.
Glad to hear it. Don’t know how Cologne Nocturne is so I can’t say the same
the closest thing that I have that resembles a sport fragrance is a miniature bottle of Serge Lutens L’Eau. As much as I love Serge Lutens, this isn’t a favorite scent of mine. I’m wearing Jean Patou Vacances, vintage Ma Collection eau de toilette which I just bought on eBay. So beautiful!
I love old Vacances.
I know, to me this is the most beautiful rendition of a lilac fragrance.
I always liked mint-colored bikes and I don’t know why.
I don’t think that my perfume us sporty but I like it anyway.
Cologne Nocturne. Le Galion.
Very nice, please waft in my direction!
If you like mint-colored bikes, have you ever seen a Bianchi? See the link below. Fabulous bikes, although expensive.
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/218424650654048516/
Thank you. I didn’t know about Bianchi.
I have a Bianchi Freccia Celeste in that lovely minty colour. Very fun to ride.
Pretty!
I’m in Cristalle EDT, which smells like the kind of thing one would wear to Play Croquet on the Lawns at the Estate, or perhaps attend Wimbledon or Churchill Downs. Oh, waiter, where is my mint julep?
I adore the old Cristalle edt, you smell lovely!
I think I’m wearing the current formulation (it’s from a decant), but thank you for the input – I’ve been wanting a FB and am waffling over whether to track down a vintage bottle or go with current. You might have made up my mind for me!
I love the vintage, more oakmoss and depth than the current version. Although the cost is probably through the roof on flea bay.
If you can find Patou’s Eau de Patou, it’s very similar in vibe. Both are sporty citrus chypres, the Eau de Patou is a touch more floral/spice.
Can I hang out with your gorgeous-smelling self and have one of those mint juleps?
Absolutely! I have a pitcher-ful right here.
I got nuthin’ for sporty. Still drinking my coffee, trying to decide how I want my day to go (which usually influences which fragrance I wear).
Happy Friday, all!
Hope the day went well!
I’m in the last of my decant of Chanel Bel Respiro, vividly bright-green and bitter at the top, then irisy and sophisticated. (And I don’t even like iris, but this is so well made and so Chanel that it works somehow.) It smells like a really expensive sport scent for well-compensated athletes.
You smell great. I like your marketing idea
.
I almost wore Bel Respiro today. You smell wonderfully outdoorsy.
Bel Respiro is beautiful
I’m on my third day of controlling sugar in my diet. It is absolutely addicting and tolerance develops, so you need more and more!! I’ve stashed away my chocolate collection, so it will be a virtual celebration of World Chocolate Day. Wishing everyone who can actively indulge a delightful time.
SOTD is Parfums de Nicolai L’Eau de Sport. It’s citrusy and herbal
and longevity is surprisingly good. I had on Habit Rouge EDP, which was the first sport idea that came to mind, but it reminds me of men leaving the basketball court full of balls AFTER they have showered and dressed to go out.
Stay strong!! I know how hard it is to control your sugar – my mom is diabetic so I have to hide all the sweets away, because if she sees one, she will eat it.
Thanks, Clarissa. You’re mom is fortunate that you help her avoid temptation. I’ve been playing with perfume samples as if they were different varieties of chocolates. It’s a good way to justify having lots of samples
.
Good luck, and you do smell fabulous!
Glorious summer and world chocolate day to everyone!
Chloe Love Story sample and 75%Dark chocolate here. Some one sent me a sample- so
I read the reviews and expected Love Story to be awful. But it’s not. I wouldn’t want a fb but its nice for a summer outside casual floral scent. I’m surprised by the nice smell floating around me. I like it enough I Might keep a sample around.
I love dark chocolate! And together with mint it’s a killer combo for me.
Sport : walking the streets of NYC in Songes
Lol
That’s a really pretty bike. Puzzlin’ sounds like the perfect rainy day activity.
I am wearing TDC Tokyo Bloom, but it’s already almost gone after a couple hours. You inspired me to do Terre d’Hermes EDT next. I can’t do the EDP because smells extremely savory to me, sort of like bacon.
Sidenote: laughing at ” See if you might possibly have anything French in your collection?” Ha
I’m pretty sure I could do weeks of French juice!
Years, possibly
Lovely bike!
At the moment I am one of the few Dutchies who does not have a bike.
As for the sport theme.
I had all kinds of ideas for sporty based on my own sporty experiences.
Ballet: something woody (think of those polished wooden floors) layerd with something extremely animalic/musky/sweaty. Ballet is a very difficult and intense sport imo.
…and horse riding: Sarrasins, Tabac Tabou (hay!) came to mind.
But I ended up wearing French Lover, because I knew I had to spend 2 hours in a meeting room with a colleague today.
French Lover can be associated with an outdoor sport though, smells like looking for your golf or tennis ball somewhere in the soil of an overgrown and unkept garden.
*unkeMpt
Perfect!
I don’t have any sporty scents. I wearing Comptoir Sud Pacifique Aqua Motu. Salty and refreshing. The closest to beach sport activities: swimming, surfing, volleyball, flying kites, walking, etc. Have a great Friday everyone!
I’m into salty lately so will definitely check this one out. Hopefully they have a tester at Sephora.
SunnyDay – have you smelled Iris 39? No one ever mentions salty but it has that vibe to me.
Oh, I think that one is very sporty!
I actually have two sports fragrances that I could wear if I were so inclined. They are leftovers from my pre-perfumista days. I haven’t worn them in a decade. They are Nautica Woman and Jockey Physical Woman. What I chose to wear today was PdN Balle de Match. I really love this one. It has a blast of grapefruit at the top, but not the slightly funky, sweaty grapefruit of Pamplelune. This one is juicy and bright. Anyway I love it, and it is FBW. Thank goodness that Luckyscent has 30ml bottles for a decent price. It has been renamed, but as long as the juice is the same I don’t care.
I love Balle de Match. I haven’t smelled it in ages.
Twins! Balle de Match is the only ‘sporty’ scent I could find in my collection. Just right for the hot day ahead.
Triplets, except I have a sample of the L’Eau de Sport version. I would imagine that it’s a bit different.
Quadruplets!
SOTD is Mazzolari Vetiver. Again. Yep, I really, really like it.
I’m not sporty, but if I were, these are the people I want to be like. Although it was put out by ESPN, this little clip is about much more than sports. It’s about humanity, courage, kindness, and gratitude. If you have 14 minutes, I hope you watch and feel your heart open wide! Sport on, NSTers!
https://youtu.be/Fi37_GYRYCs
Thanks for the link – that just about melted me! What a beautiful story.
SOTD is Habit Rouge, very sporty!
You smell great
Mai oui! You smell great.
I am doing it-says-so-in-the-ads sports day with Alliage (I’m going with the spelling on my bottle.) I love Alliage and the little giggle I get from the silly marketing adds to the fun. Also my sprayer is broken so applying was exciting to say the least.
My sport will be Dungeons and Dragons
It’s the original sport fragrance! And it is goooood.
Brain sports count too
SOTD is O d’Lancome. I’m in the office, but I think this scent would work well for tennis.
You smell fab!
Thanks, O is one of my favorite summer perfumes.
Wrestling.

Sometimes I pin.
Sometimes I like to be pinned.
Cue Natalie Wood- I’m very versatiiiiiiiiille !
LOLOLOL.
Aliage Sport Fragrance Spray, Estee Lauder says so.
Galbanum, wormwood, oakmoss, cedarwood.
Triple strength coffee.
Winner takes all.
Carpe Diem. Peace.
Hi twin! We smell great!
Hey twin ! We do!

Dang it Bear! Lol! Thanks for the giggle. I needed it.
I’m happy to oblige!

Cheers, lillyjo !
Wearing Fleurs De Sel and walking the beaches of the Outer Banks in my imagination. It’s been a bittersweet week. The 5th was my birthday, and I ordered a bottle of Monserrat to wear for the rest of the summer. But yesterday we had to put down our sick kitty – she had grown so week and we didn’t want her to suffer anymore. She was only 11, which is relatively young for a cat, and our home feels like it has a hole in it. It’s hard for the other cats as well, I know they are wondering where she went.
Oh, I’m so so sorry. Wish there was something I could say or do to make it easier. Hugs.
So very sorry for your kitty loss.
Oh nooo.
I am so sorry for your loss.
Oh I’m so sorry. The same thing happened with my dog a few years ago and even when you know it’s the right choice it’s so hard. Sending good thoughts your way.
Oh, so sorry! Sending you hugs.
I’m so sorry for your loss jirish! Losing our pets is always just AWFUL.
I do hope you were able to have a nice birthday in spite of things….
So sorry. That kitty-shaped empty spot is a hard one to fill.
So very sorry! It’s so hard going about birthdays and everyday stuff with a broken heart. Your cat had 11 years filled with love and care, knowing she was treasured. That’s huge. ❤️
So sorry to hear about your cat, it’s very hard to watch a pet get sick.
I am sorry for your loss. Hugs.
I’m very sorry.
I am very sorry for your loss.
So very sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry.
So sorry to hear about your kitty.
I am so sorry Jirish. Sending you warm hugs.
Oh, I’m so very sorry for your loss. It’s so hard.
I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. Sending hugs and warm thoughts to you and your family. It’s such a wrench to lose a pet.
So sorry to hear about your cat.
I am so sorry about the loss of your sweet kitty. Big hugs to you.
I am so so sorry for your loss <3 I hope future birthdays will be in happier weeks.
So sorry for the loss of your cat!
I’m so sorry about your kitty; it’s the most difficult thing to be strong for our pets as we love them so much. Sending you hugs.
I’m so sorry for your loss.
So sorry to hear about your kitty cat – it’s so difficult to say goodbye. Hugs to you.
Happy FriYAY!!!!! Heading to see the new Spiderman movie tonight, and looking forward to relaxing a bit this weekend…..
TOTALLY SPORTY in Adidas Natural Vitality! YES, I own a true sports scent, created by Marcel Roucel in 2008. It’s really not bad for what it is…a very inexpensive fruity floral that is working just fine!
Oh, you win for the title category I’m sure! Hope the movie is good.
I’m trying a sample of Memo Moon Leather. Orange, grapefruit, lemon clary sage and leather. Not sure what sport this would evoke, but I’m sporting it to clean my house.
A nice clean house sounds like a great way to start the weekend.
The Moon Leather didn’t last as long as the dirt/dust/cat hair did. It was totally gone long before I was done cleaning.
I went with Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess. I think this is the Eau Fraiche version but it’s not well marked. Anyway, it’s making me wish I were sunning myself on a golden beach with a giant floppy straw hat and a big umbrella. Not that I can fit into my swimsuit anymore, haha. Happy Friday everyone!
Love, love, love Bronze Goddess. I cannot live without it!. You smell heavenly!
Fleurs de Sel was all ready for a game of beach volleyball, then Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolu got into a massive sulk at being ignored. And now for sitting under a shady tree with some iced tea…
Ha!
Auphorie Shambala — not at all sporty but I’m going to yoga later so that at least makes it a scent worn while exercising
How do you like it? I have a decant of this one and find it very captivating
Ooh- very intriguing.
TGIF!
Sports-appropriate scent: Clarin’s Eau Dynamisante.
Something fresh or commando is the way to go for me. But then again. my daily deodorant is actually Youth Dew scented so I am technically never really commando!
Eau Dynamisante is an excellent choice…..A great refresher!
Another one that comes to mind for me is Florida Water…I keep it in the fridge for a cool down when I’m doing yardwork or whatnot!
Wearing No. 19 today, which is perfect for all occasions, so presumably one could wear it for some athletic activity, though I wore it for some support during a phone interview. It seems that whining about lack of response from job applications worked a little, as I got a callback for a summer job AND an e-mail about teaching an extra class in the fall (don’t know if I’ll be allowed to take it, but it is nice to know I’m not constitutionally incapable of earning money).
Put my hair in a bun for the interview, will now use No. 19 to help me feel like a ballerina.
Good news about employment is the best thing for a good weekend. And you smell great too.
Yes, even if I end up not being allowed to take either job, I’ll feel better – there’s something relaxing about the obstacles being external.
“It’s not me, it’s you” certainly does feel better in that kind of situation. Hope it works out for the best!
Yes, it’s nice to remember that you’re not unemployable-in-principle.
Thanks a lot!
Good luck!
Thank you!
I helped myself to a couple of spritzes from my husband’s bottle of Dior Homme Sport. This was purchased by me, and is mostly ignored by him in favor of his beloved Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve. It’s fairly sweet and rather well-blended; I’m having trouble picking out individual notes.
You smell great. I like the Dior Homme scents. Well-blended is a good description. When I see a tester bottle of any of them (there are so many!) I always take a sniff, sometimes a spritz too.
I like that one, you smell great!
I didn’t love the opening, but am enjoying it more after the first hour – it does smell ‘fresh’ to me, but not in a cliched aquatic sort of way.
I haven’t put anything on yet. In New Mexico for my love’s job interview and weekend vacation. I intend to hang at the pool while he interviews (his interview lasts from 9-3
) so I think I’m going to go with Orange Sanguine which is refreshing and I think one could wear whilst playing most any sport. Happy Friday, everyone!
New Mexico is gorgeous. Enjoy the pool!
Great choice for a day by at the pool !
I meant to type “by the pool”
That’s a crazy long interview! Enjoy the perks of going along with him.
Good luck to your husband, and have a great time while you’re in New Mexico! If it’s a clear night, consider driving a bit into the desert to look at the stars. It is a beautiful and humbling experience.
Those all day interviews! **shudder** But – I hope it goes well and that you enjoy New Mexico.
I am wearing Balmain Vent Vert and drinking a cup of apple cinnamon tea.
I wasn’t sure what would fit the sporty theme. I’ll be outside a lot today, so I went green with Vent Vert.
I hope you’re having a wonderful vacation, Robin
I am, thank you! Part 1 is over and we head to Cape Cod tomorrow.
And I think Vent Vert is perfect for anything.
When I was a kid, we had an old cabin at the beach. No TV, no phone, and if the interior decor had a theme, it was “what’s on sale at Goodwill?” My mom used to say that with 4 kids and a dog tracking in sand all summer, there was no point in having anything else. One of her Goodwill buys one year was an old croquet set. We had no idea how to play croquet, and there wasn’t any flat land around the cabin, so we invented the sport of Dunes Croquet. Much harder to play than regular croquet; you can imagine what it was like trying to whack those wooden balls up and down and over sand dunes! Ah, good memories!
So my SOTD is Tokyo Milk Sea and Sky, which does a great job of recapturing the brisk, salty air of the ocean and dunes.
Great memory, thanks for sharing!
Sounds like a perfect summer activity for rambunctious kids!
Dunes croquet sounds super fun.
If you turned your first paragraph into a novel, I’d happily buy it – it would make a great beach read
Thanks for transporting me. I visited a lake on sand dunes in Oregon annually as a kid, and the cabin we stayed in was much like you described. And now I want to smell that Tokyo Milk!
That sounds lovely
SotM = Chanel Eau de Cologne, an easy start for the day.
Heatwave continues. I will wear colognes all day – 4711 this afternoon, Eau de Guerlain for evening, Cologne du 68 at bedtime, with Atelier Cologne samples for added fun throughout.
Wearing cologne is a bit sporty, yes?
Friday fun fact: there’s a Prada Olfactories fragrance called Heat Wave EdP.
Mmm, sounds like a perfect perfume day. I love a good cologne.
Colognes are good, and neroli is one of the best cologne notes.
Love Chanel Eau de Cologne, I wish it lasted more than an hour on me…
That’s why it’s a wonderful cologne, right? Smells great, zero longevity.
Lime deodorant+ intoxicated decant = at least a “sporty” first minutes, before the other stuff comes in.
Ever tried Eau de Gaga? It’s opening is very limey. So how do like Intoxicated? Got to smell it again the other day, and I really want a bottle????
I’m not into the first few minutes, but after that it’s delightful. An awesome NSTer gave me a decant, and I find it really intriguing. I’m still on the lookout for more coffee scents…Have you tried Close Up? I have yet to find it out in the wild, but I’m looking….
I don’t know Close Up. I finally got to try Black Phantom which has a very strong coffee note in the opening, almost bitter actually. But the chocolate and almond kicks in and it’s becomes very gourmand. I prefer Intoxicated. Have you tried A*Men Pure Coffee? Still hoping to find a tester to try it.
Today’s scent is the lovely Arielle Shoshana you all have been raving about! Super juicy passionfruit for the first three seconds, and then settles into something a lot like Galop.
This is sporty because…uh…because I wore it après sport last night (I’m getting a head start on silly Frenchification; super-easy for me because I still think in entangled Franglish, a souvenir of my recent three-year tenure in France).
Perfect comparison of Arielle Shoshana and Galop, both are so beautiful and definitely have something great in common. I like AS much better (because Galop gave me a headache).
It’s gotten so much love here, I couldn’t resist a sample. If it’s anything like Galop, I will be quite pleased.
I smell the resemblance too!
Only three seconds? I got a solid few hours of passion fruit. Not much else, though–maybe my very idiosyncratic nose is anosmic to something in the base. It was a lot of fun to wear.
I decided to go the cologne route and also to try to use up a sample I’ve had for a long time, so I chose Eau de Sisley 3. It’s citrus, ginger, and patchouli. I walked to work this morning for the first time in a long while, and this was super refreshing to spray after I got changed and cooled down.
Nice pick! And good for you for walking.
We had very damaging storms over night. I’m looking at 3 days without power. I haven’t put anything on yet except some beach body lotion.
Oh jeez! Hope your power is fixed lickity split!
Hope your power comes back sooner.
I believe you posted earlier this week or last about wanting to try Aromatics Black Cherry. I am happy to send you some if you’d like…you can reach me at gmail where I am sherainsocal if interested.
Oh thank you! I will do so once my power is back. And hey i was just scrolling through yesterday, did you get a new job?
Yes, I did. I am excited and nervous. ????
Hope your electricity is flowing soon.
Yikes! That stinks. Hope it’s resolved soon.
Sorry to read that, lillyjo.

I’ve only lost power for 2 consecutive days.
Was able to purchase dry ice for the refrigerator/freezer, yet ate ALL the ice cream before it could melt.
Good luck, and what doesn’t kill us, makes us stronger.
Onward and upward!
Thank goodness it’s not winter. Trying to entertain the kiddos is really the most challenging part.
Oh man, that is awful. I hope everything is resolved quickly and that you didn’t have too much precious ice cream in the freezer.
Ugh, what a drag. Here’s to surviving the weekend!
Wearing Twelve Keys from Soivohle which is green and seems vaguely aquatic to me, thus reminding me of the Charles River and sailing. (Truthfully though, sailing lessons are on my day off so I’m more likely to be wearing a big white floral, which I can enjoy until it gets drowned in sunscreen)
Sailing lessons must be great fun!
My sport is yoga, so if I wear any perfume at all to class it’s some type of incense. I put on Avignon today. After class and a shower it’ll be something else.
I like JM Orris & Sandalwood or Costes body oil for yoga. They burn palo santo sticks at my studio, which I love. Incense goes great with yoga overall.
Wearing an actual Sport fragrance today: Ralph Lauren Polo Sport Woman. A blast from the past and not half bad!
That was the only sports fragrance I ever owned. Gave it to my mom a long time ago, as it was too sporty for me
I used to wear it when I was a teenager and loved it! a blast from the past for me, too…
Noir de Noir today…happy Friday!
Love NdN????
So so good..
I do not own any sport fragrances.
Bombay Bling is my fragrance of the day
The name, at least, makes me think you could be dancing…
I’m wearing Cuir de Lancome today, which is not at all sporty, unless your sport is something like competitive shade-throwing.
“Break out your library cards, because reading is what? Fundamental!”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hoMjiaelcA
ha! competitive shade-throwing is THE sport at my local shopping mall. I watch from the sidelines.
Not feeling that sports-inclined at the moment (suspected heel spurns aren’t really helpful) but vetiver pour elle is always an invigorating scent in the warm weather!
Sorry about the heel spurs — had that once, it hurt !
SOTD is Malle En Passant, which I’m really liking and which hints at walking around smelling the lilac. And though I’ve been at work, Wimbledon scores have been checked and I’m heading home to the TV…
you smell gooood!
“en passant” is a chess term and since Robin noted that chess counts as a sport you are right on target!
This has been a tough week, the past day especially so — one of those periods where you don’t really want to create an association between a perfume and your state of mind. So I’m mostly commando today, though I’m faintly fragrant in Bliss lemon-sage lotion (which is somewhat sportif…)
Love that Bliss scent!
I hope the next few days and weeks are easier for you. Sending hugs your way. (You do smell really nice, by the way.)
Cheer up! Things will get better. You smell fantastic.
Hope things get better for you. I usually go for scented lotion when I’m in a funk.
I’m in a sample of No 5 L’Eau today. What uppity prep-school girls wear during gym class? I tried…
Lol!
aka field hockey?
I was thinking competitive eye-rolling and sighing
LOL!
It fits!
Based only on their ad campaign. It’s quite nice, actually. Last time I tried it I got a huge dose of dryer sheet, but didn’t seem to happen this time. Weird.
Vetiver Tonka one more time!
I’ve never really understood the marketing of perfume as a Sport fragrance which just goes to show I’m not the target there. I’m assuming they are “fresh and bracing” and in that sense I think VT fits the bill.
Works for me!
I’m another in Balle de Match today. Like Robin, this was one of the first niche scents I bought after discovering that perfume didn’t have to be bought in a department store. It still smells really good and I wonder why I don’t wear it more often–only once or twice a year. However, that might be a function of how many scents I have, all demanding attention.
I am eating world chocolate from a NZ company, Bennett’s, that Waterdragon gave me. The chili ones are especially good. The box is almost empty…
Glad BdM fans are making a good showing today
Guerlain Vetiver is the closest thing I have to a sporty scent. Wearing an older version today. I think Dior Homme Cologne would be perfect for today’s theme. Don’t own any but sure wish I did! ????
I’m visualizing something like this: http://www.alloutcricket.com/cricket/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/Vintage-Knitwear.jpg
(for Guerlain Vetiver)
???? I’ve never been to a cricket match. But maybe polo?
Started out with Songes, and moved to Bond No. 9 Fire Island, courtesy of the awesome perfumelover67 – I like it! Old school Coppertone and some florals peeking out. Have completed over a week of clean eating. Have a great weekend!
I am glad you like it! Enjoy it!
Oh yes! I recently had the pleasure of trying Fire Island for the first time not too long ago and it really does smell like Coppertone…taking me back to my childhood!
I might get a bottle of Fire Island. I’ve been spritizing this with abandon all day. For some reason it makes me think of the 1980s and the silly Vacation movies with Chevy Chase.
My sport today was dodging raindrops on my way to work. My walking commute is about a mile long – plenty of time to get good and wet if it’s raining.
SOTD is Diptyque L’Eau de Neroli. I’m on theme in the “sport” deodorant I put on this morning
That is a long walk in the rain! Hope you managed to stay reasonably dry.
Hmmm…. I’d say surfing was the sport today, except I only tried it once when I was 10 and never successfully stood. So, how about snorkeling in At the Beach 1966.
One of my favorites CB I Hate Perfume. You smell very beachy!
I planned to steal couple spritzez of Dior Cologne Homme from my DH to participate in Friday project, but failed, as Jacomo Silences was calling my name
When Silences calls….
I had planned to wear Estee Lauder’s Aliage (even pulled it from the cabinet) and then my reptile brain promptly spritzed Ralph Lauren’s Safari today instead.
I guess the ad campaign is sporty/safari, that counts, doesn’t it?
Love Safari! That was my wedding day scent.
So sorry to hear about your kitty cat – it’s so difficult to say goodbye. Hugs to you.
Don’t know how that comment got here, it was meant for Jhirish?
Couldn’t really go wrong with either of those!
For sure it counts!
I used to wear Aliage back in the day – need to try Safari sometime soon.
SheriG – I love the galbanum in Safari, it has just the right amount of snap, the amber in the drydown gives it a lovely warmth.
Finally, I’m on theme! SOTD vintage Trophée by Lancome – there’s a golfer on the bottle, the name has an addition saying ‘pour le sport’ and the cap has the structure of a golf ball – as sporty as could be, right?
Many years ago, my mother got a bottle of this from friends from France as a gift, and although it was marketed as a men’s scent, she loved it and so did I. About two years ago I bought my own bottle off ebay for cheap. It’s the perfect scent for hot weather – a fresh green chypre with notes of basil.
Other than that, no sport today. or does running behind your kid count as sport?
That sounds like a great scent.
Fun! What a great bottle!
Definitely counts.
I think maybe you win!
Jicky, as suggested by the sports car in the vintage ad (http://boisdejasmin.com/2005/05/guerlain-jicky-vintage-modern-perfume-review.html). It also goes with dominoes outside French cafés (Oscar Wilde’s idea of outdoor exercise).
You smell great! I thought of Jicky for today because of that ad, too.
Ha! That photo is more or less what I described as the ‘sport’ for Caleche yesterday. And Oscar Wilde and I think alike…
Twins! Plus Phyrne Fishers often wears it for her…uh…’sporting activities’
* Phryne Fisher
Yes, her version of “sport” is, erm, umm, well … racy is the most appropriate word that comes to mind.
Does she?? That’s not mentioned in the TV series. Maybe I should get myself a sample to try.
The Phryne books are great. She is described as wearing several different real perfumes regularly through them but Jicky is the only one still available in any form (yes I checked LOL).
When I think sporty, I think clean & herbal. SOTD is Viva by Fergie, which I purchased after reading Jessica’s review back in 2013. I definitely pick up the vetiver and a bit of the lavender. If I were golfing, this is what I would wear. But it’s raining heavily today, so I’ll just have to appreciate what the rain is doing for the local golf courses.
Wow, forgot that one!
I’m wearing Eau de Sport by PdN. It’s been working for well for me this summer.
I’ve noticed that PdN scents have been mentioned a few times this week. That’s a house that I’ve wanted to explore, but there have been so many distractions.
They seem simple but well done. Also affordable. You should try some.
Can I bring you some Eau d’Ete, it’s lime-refreshing!
Ooh, yes I would like to try!
Morning, NST. It’s cold, colder, coldest: I wish the weather would find a reset button! Not that it’s anywhere near as cold as Central Otago, where Kanuka is, but all things are relative. I want a WARM sporty scent…no, actually, I don’t: I’ve just discovered that I don’t want a sporty scent at all. I want high glamour, to encourage the performing of housework, which I am mentally trying to imbue with adventure and noble endeavour. My mental effort isn’t paying off, but Nahema is. This is the richest, most photo-realistic rose perfume I know. Sporty I am not, but gloriously, glamorously rosy I am, and watch me go! I will subdue the the uproar and chaos with steam mop and vacuum cleaner and leave a whisper of deep red rose behind me as I go.
Be well, all.
I’m wearing la pausa from you or tje chanel shop… Fabulous. I was so cold last night in the shed. I slept next to a window and it must have condensated as my hair was iced to the pillow where the water had dripped and frozen. Next time I will insist on sleeping in the house by the fire. Have a good weekend and hope the rugby people don’t keep you up.
Your housework philosophy is just what I need. Working up a little sweat certainly does make a perfume bloom!
Swanning about in Dior’s Feve Delicieuse. Yes, swanning is a sport I excel at ( thanks to my good southern upraising). I’m also quite good at lounging & languidly fanning myself while sipping a cool libation, while maintaining a pleasant disposition and, if I must, exchanging in witty repartee.
….and you don’t sweat….you GLISTEN!!!
#SouthernGirls
Why bless your heart! I merely glow, hence the proper use of the ever present fan in my delicate hand.
You are my hero. I’ve lived in the south for 5 years and while I can manage witty repartee and sipping cool libations, there isn’t a chance in Hades that the way I move through life could be considered as graceful as swanning.
My trick is to wear garments that are as sheer as gossamer wings and to always move at a most leisurely pace.
Finally, sports at which I can excel! Lounging, sipping, and repartee I am already fairly proficient in, but I will have to work on my swanning and fanning, and on some days, my disposition.
I’m afraid I don’t have a bona fide sport fragrance in my collection. So operating on a vague understanding that sport frags are generally dry and/or crisp, I’ve gone with MFK Petit Matin today. I imagine it being perfect for a Wimbledon participant.
Happy Friday, NSTers!
House twins!!!!
and just out of curiosity, have you tried Dame Perfumery’s Monsoon? The featured note is ‘creosote’ which I believe is a plant indigenous to the Arizona region where Jeffrey Dame resides (correct me if I am wrong!) I haven’t had the chance to try it yet but every time I see your avatar name I think of that perfume
In case you are interested-
This is where I learned about the “creosote” note-
https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Dame-Perfumery/Monsoon-45406.html
Yes, you’re right: it’s a native plant, and Mr. Dame is here. Creosote is my favorite native plant, and it’s largely responsible for the heavenly smell of the desert after a monsoon (thus its inclusion in the perfume). I’m dying to sniff it, but I haven’t ordered a sample yet because it’s just so freaking hot here!
Wow, I always thought creosote was an herbicide.
It’s actually the distillate of burnt wood. So. Not a plant.
Wait, is that what you thought my screen name is? ????????Aside from the chemical substance, creosote also the common name of Larrea tridentata, a wonderful desert plant.
Here’s some info:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larrea_tridentata
You learn something new every day! Thanks.
I’m wearing Osmanthus Interdite today. It reminds me of very early misty mornings, so my sport association is rowing crew, which I did (15 years ago!!!) on very early misty mornings.
Have a fantastic Friday, everyone! And a glorious Saturday too.
You smell lovely!
I’m so completely non-sporty that I can’t even get my brain around the idea of a sports scent, I assume it would be something light and fresh so that I didnt suffocate myself as I puffed, panted and wheezed my way through something energetic
I did karate classes for a few years a while back, before I fell down the perfume rabbit hole. I think something with incense or wood would go with that, but sadly I didn’t have anything like that at the time.
Meanwhile, I have a builder coming around this morning to look at kitchen plans, so I think go with some confidence building Mitsouko.
Good luck!
SOTD- MFK Absolue Pour le Soir….the sport is “walking” in a meadow or a garden with rose bushes, honey bees and surrounded by cedar trees.
I was “sporting” APLS yesterday. Blooms so lovely in the heat!
yes it does…I actually like it better in the warm weather (much to my surprise!)
Posting late. It was a tough morning. Mr. SD had to take a taxi to work because he left the headlights on and drained the car battery. On my way to work I realized I left my cell phone at home and it was too late to turn back. Once I sat down at work I proceeded to spill an entire cup of tea on my desk, which seeped into the adjoining wall, and dripped onto my shoes stored beneath.
TGIF! SOTD is Eau des Merveilles Bleue which is about as sporty as I get.
Oh, geez! Hope your weekend is better than your start to the day!
Oops! Hope the rest of your day turns out to be better. You smell wonderful!
Oy! See you next week!
I’m poolside ready in a dab of Terracotta, several mists of OJ Frangipani, and a slathering of Nuxe Prodigieux Le Parfum. In my fantasy, I’m poised for a dip in the water, to make my way to the swim-up bar. In reality, I’m home sick in bed (and missing a gorgeous sunny day.)
I’m sure I’m not the only one who’d rather be here: http://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/06/41/42/41/grand-velas-riviera-nayarit.jpg, not just today, but every day. *sigh*
How is the Nuxe Parfum? Does it smell like the oil?
I *think* that’s probably the idea, but I don’t have any to compare to nor a specific enough memory. I couldn’t even describe the Parfum, for that matter, since I had so many layers on.
Post-shower I sprayed the insides of both arms with 2 different vintages of Shalimar (excellent for indoor sports.) Then a bit later I decided I wanted to smell the White Linen that was sitting out. I’ve worn this before but never got past the initial hairspray-ish opening. Getting it now – great summer scent, and definitely sporty. Would work for a game of badminton or sitting on the porch with a glass of iced tea.
Oddly enough, on the one arm that’s got both Shalimar and White Linen, I can smell each very distinctly without any blending together.
One can fantasize. Hope you feel better soon!
Naps are the best. I’m not wearing a sporty fragrance at all. In stead I’m luxuriating in my favourite Melon, Emotionnelle. May Beach Volleyball? Have a great weekend everyone!
I tried to wear Chanel Allure Homme Sport first, but scrubbed it off and put on Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant instead. I suppose it would be a good choice for outdoor winter sports.
A long day today, perfume wise. Started the day in the 5th element, “Metal” by Essence of Chi.
Top: coriander and cardamom;
Mid: jasmine, casablanca lily and tuberose;
Base: birch and resins.
Like the rest of the series, this one smelt cheap and diluted. Don’t know now what I saw in them last year.
In the afternoon, tried a small sample of Phaedon “Dzhari”.
Notes: dates, tonka, soil notes, Malaga wine, sandalwood, cedar and cashmeran.
Very nice mildly boozy semi-gourmand but it was gone in 2 hours. A small sample, on a hot steamy day, so I will re-test under better circumstances.
Next up was the weekly flight back to BHX, delayed by an hour. When I got home, it was as hot and muggy as Düsseldorf. SOTE is Profumi di Pantelleria “Maestrale”, which is lovely any time including in the heat.
Top: bergamot, lavender and rhubarb;
Mid: rum, carnation, iris, cardamom and coriander;
Base: cedar, vetiver and ambrette seed.
I wore Dzhari over a few days last summer and loved it in the heat. I want to get my hands on some more of it but it seems a bit difficult to get hold of here in the US. Did it recall L’air du Desert Morocain to you at all? That’s what it reminded me of, but I didn’t have it with me to compare.
I haven’t yet tried my sample of LAdDM, so I can’t compare them for the moment. But it sounds like I have something to look forward to. ;^)
So much for Chi. Unless you’re an alien, or a time lord. That would make sense. I wish Arso was an element
I’ll try them again in cooler weather, and if they fail again I’ll use them to wash windows or something. I’m afraid I’ve drained my Arso, Kanuka, so it’s all behind me now. ;^)
I don’t really have any sporty fragrances, so I chose Moschino I Love Love instead. It’s incredibly hot here in SoCal, so I wanted something light and citrusy!
Sounds sporty to me.
Ooh, this is my favourite post. I don’t own many fragrances with ‘sport’ in the name, but I do love a citrus based scent, which screams sporty to me. I wore Chanel Allure Blanche today, and this evening I shall be wearing Eau des Merveilles Bleue. Still undecided about this one,(a large bottle may be coming up in the next swap meet) but in the very warm weather we have in the UK at the moment, it’ll do just fine.
Ooh, I love Bleue and ended up getting the 50 mLs and the 30 mLs (because cute). The 100 mL EdM bottles are way too big for my average-sized hands. Di give it more of anwearing!
I wil give it a go, I have to, it’s too big a bottle not to! It is lovely, but I find it so fleeting. Saying that, I can still smell it on my shirt this morning.
You must spray lavishly – at least 5 but like 28 La Pausa, 8 would do the trick. You can spray lavishly because big bottle and it is such a light fragrance you won’t clear a room.
SOTD = Hermes Galop d’Hermes
If I had the presentation bottle, I can say I’m sporty on account of the stirrup bottle. Since I only have a partial refill bottle from hosting a split, my sporty affiliation is I thought about being sporty. Anyway, I enjoyed it all day as I had sprayed with abandon because I can!
Question for those who have worn Galop – did you detect tonka beans? I know it is not listed in Fragrantica but my nose knows what it likes!
Hmm, don’t recall any tonka. I did get a lot of rank fruit… must be the quince.
Rank fruit! I got the Tonka in the far dry down but it could be a figment of my overactive imagination.
You know what I just realized, it wasn’t tonka I smelled nor was it from Galop! It was from the vanilllin in my Carmex hand cream!
Not at all!
Howdy, see a ove. It was actually from my Carmex hand cream!
Hot and humid here, wearing Micallef Rouge No. 2 which somehow smells coconutty to me. Wish I were on a beach somewhere in cooler temps.
I hate hot and humid. Hope your weekend is better!
Very late today, but at least I’m not going straight from work to shower to bed like the past few weeks. I was planning to wear some of my only true “sport” fragrance, RL Polo Sport Woman, but I think the bottle is at Mom’s. Decided that White Linen is really a sport fragrance to me for some reason and went with that. Again. I’ve got to break my monogamy before it becomes monotony, but White Linen is such a no-brainer in the Texas summer heat.
I grew up in TX and loved wearing White Linen in the spring and summer! It’s so crisp and lovely.
No “sport” labeled scent in the house so Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche is my go-to when it’s a sporty sort of day. Must admit Luca Turin’s one star “depressingly banal” rating broke my heart a little. But that’s ok. My 19 year old daughter, surrounded by my fragrance obsession since birth and bored of it all, commented, “Whatever that perfume is, I like it,” when I recently spritzed Eau Fraiche in the car with her. Mind you, 99.9% of her responses since she could talk have been, “It smells like perfume. Like every other perfume you have,” (stab to the heart). So, her “I like it” was the equivalent of a Turin 5 star rating for Chanel Chance Eau Fraiche.
: )
I have a 21 yr old daughter and can totally relate to the perfume responses. ???? She’s always been a monogamous perfume wearer, which absolutely kills me.
Lol! Fragrance monogamers baffle and mystify me. : )
I’m sure the Eau Fraiche smells lovely on you. When I first got a copy of The Guide, I looked up the perfume I’d just bought, Lalique Le Parfum. One star, “Rock bottom.”
Aw, Lalique is lovely! I ♥️ so many of Turin’s 1-star wonders and am left scratching my head at some of his 5-star favs, like Lauder’ Beyond Paradise. Cloying and done before is how I view that one. To each, his or her own!
Actually I quite like that one – it’s my favourite version of Chance.
Mine, too! : )
I had perfumes all picked out for the last two weeks, but first I had to reschedule an allergy shot, and thought Carthusia Ligea (La Sirena), one of my top ten of summer, might be a little much, and last week I just plain forgot to wear L de Lolita Lempicka Coral Flower, which I bought blind for the bottle (but fortunately like). As penance, I am in a headache-deepening dose of Pour Un Homme de Caron Sport. It’s not terrible, and I might even like it on someone else–it’s as much citrus as aquatic, which blends nicely with the lavender and vanilla–but I am seriously considering scrubbing it off. Happy weekend, everyone.
