Hump Day, already! Plus, Flag Day and World Blood Donor Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm wearing Paul Smith Story.
Reminder: 6/16 will be Oddball Friday...wear a fragrance that smells like nothing else you own, or interpret oddball in some other oddball way. Suggested by Austenfan.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Paul Smith Limited Edition Football is from 2014 and is long since sold out. Football freestyler John Farnworth messes around with one here.
started the morning in Allure. I wore this one twenty years ago and had forgotten how lovely it is.
Testing- Incanta, Kimonanthe, Fire Island and Chai…Chai is winning.
Later will test Nuits Indiennes, Grand Soir, Anima Dulcis and Knot
I have decided to interpret oddball week as vigorous testing of very random samples as well as draining 1/4 full vials of samples.
That would be INcarnata…can’t even blame it on fat fingers as mine are bony-LOL!
Ohh and thank you Robin for taking one of my suggestions for the Community project! That made my day 🙂
Good!!
I love Anima Dulcis! Vanilla, chile and cinnamon on me. Yummy.
I love it too and own a FB–despite these notes it’s not fiery or alarming–a comfort scent.
it is yummy…but Chai was even yummier to my nose.
You REEK!
🙂
I’m wearing ‘Sahara Noir’ by Tom Ford, which is my favourite fragrance of the last five years – some days it even feels like it’s my favourite of all time. Still can’t understand why this beautiful stunner has been discontinued but I luckily managed to get hold of a back-up bottle this week, so, as a way of celebrating that, I’m wearing it today.
Sahara noir only worked if I sprayed my clothing but not on my skin
Nice! I love this one too.
I never had a chance to try it.
It sounds like something right up my alley!
So maybe its better for me its no longer available. Because i really dont need another incense-y fragrance (erhm no…that is a lie and we all know it 😉
I simply canNOT get enough of frankincense and labdanum, so… 😉
If you ever run out, I think it has a similar vibe to L’Air du Desert Morocain
Elisa, I already have ‘L’Air du Desert Marocain’ and I REALLY love it! 🙂
Tom Ford certainly released some beauties that they’ve discontinued. I really loved the Black Orchid Voile de Fleur and Violet Blonde. I think sometimes he is smart for doing this, but it is frustrating if it’s something you love.
I know. It can be a bit (or insanely) frustrating. To me ‘Sahara Noir’ was an excellent replacement for ‘Amber Absolute’, of which I still have a bottle, but what has been the replacement for ‘Sahara Noir’? And to those who claim that the replacement has been ‘Tobacco Oud’ I can only say, “Nope, not good enough.”
I was planning to wear oddball fragrances all week but then the weather interrupted my plan
Right now, the temperature is just perfect. I could write a haiku about it. It has just rained, the sun it peeking through, and there is cool breeze coming through the windows. I have just made scones and serving them with strawberries that I have soaked in a bit of sugar and water overnight..the babies hair are blowing in the breeze.. eating their sticky breakfast. I want to hold this moment forever..
SOTD Songes. Perfect for this morning.
What an extraordinarily beautiful picture you paint….these are the moments to reflect on life with gratitude…thanks for the reminder….and you smell great….
What a lovely start to your day. And you smell wonderful ????
Another thanks for describing that there is beauty and peace to be cultivated.
You smell great.
Lovely! Yes, hold that moment, they go too fast.
What a wonderful morning and you smell fantastic!
Do you get a cumin note in Songes? Its not listed. And I don’t mind it.
I picked up something like cumin when I tried Songes too. I’m not sure what note would explain it either, but I like it.
Good..so its not just me!
I did not pick up the cumin in Songes, though I do in Sables which I’m wearing today. I haven’t minded the cumin in things I’ve sniffed thus far, though I believe some people just hate it.
Sables is pretty huh?
What I am probably smelling is not cumin but a combination of leather, dark florals & musk
I definitely got cumin the first time I tried Songes and inquired here as well. I don’t get cumin from Sables…mostly picking up the immortelle.
Good to know
What a beautiful morning! I hope the rest of your day is just as great. ????
Lovetosmellgood, Motherhood agrees with you so well…..you are just so HAPPY and you live in the moment, as we all should! Love that!!! 🙂
What a beautiful morning!
Beautiful scent for a picture perfect morning! I’m glad it’s cooled down.
Lovely — your scent and your morning 🙂
Wow, that sounds like a perfect moment!
What a perfectly wonderful morning you are having! Enjoy the day!
Everyone is happy and quiet when they are eating 😉
I certainly am! Thanks for sharing a perfect moment.
Thank you for letting all of us share the beautiful moments you have with your babies.
your welcome!
Today is a take no prisoners day at work, so along with my leopard wrap dress and favourite Fluevogs, I am wearing Mito.
Watch out world – I have crap to do today.
Green and fierce!
Go get ’em! Fierce outfit.
You go, girl! I hadn’t heard of Fluevogs before, so I looked them up, and the echoes of 40s style is really fun.
You rock!
The whole picture sounds fantastic! Love Fleuvogs. I had the signature swirl boot and they lasted for like 10 years!
When my husband would wear a suit and tie to work at the university, the kids would say “uh-oh, look out, Dad’s got on his bum-kickin’ clothes”.
Nice! (Or maybe not-so-nice 😉 ) I have my eye on a few pair of Fluevogs. One day, maybe…
On a recent vacation trip to the West Coast of Canada, I was left in a Fluevog store without adult supervision.
Damage to the credit cards ensued.
I may be poor, but I smell good and I am well shod.
🙂
A woman after my own heart! 🙂
Like Lovestosmellgood I am not oddballing due to the weather… in my case though it’s just because sticky heat makes me queasy and I want comfort and refreshment, not weirdness. Maybe I’ll get up the gusto on Friday. Meanwhile I am in grapefruity Dasein Summer.
Very hot weather is a dealbreaker for me too. There is so little wiggle room. My most favorite super hot and miserable weather fragrances are Cristalle (either version), Eau de Hadrien, Escale a Portofino, Cartier Baiser Vole edp, and Institute Tres Bien Cologne a la Francaise. The lighter, the better!
I would add Jour d’Hermes to this list.
YES! And Msr Li
Grapefruit perfume sounds refreshing
Vintage Fracas and Tuberose Criminelle both from decants. I love TC ❤️
Fantastically bold and beautiful!
Go big or go home ??
You smell great
Niiice
Oh la la!
The first I’m afraid to wear, the second like ice pick to the brain through my nostrils – no no no for me.
It is sunny and breezy and much cooler here today, wearing the oddball Amouage Interlude woman. Kiwi fruit, ginger ale and coffee – it took me several tries to wrap my head around it. I love it but have to be in the right mood for it.
Sigh. Maybe I need to try it again.
Yes, it’s one I keep re-trying over and over again and am always on the brink of buying, but not quite. It’s a shape-changer.
Definitely qualifies as oddball. I loved it when I first tried it but then found I couldn’t really wear it ????
Love Interlude.. It’s kind of trippy with a swirling, colourful vibe, like a painting by Kandinsky. Think I will wear it later today.
Yes, that’s how I see it too. My husband thinks it smells like whiskey and ginger ale. 🙂
Ah, that sounds good to me!
A day off and I went shopping in Amsterdam.
Summer sale has started and de discounts are in the 30-50% right now!
And of course I browsed all the perfume counters I stumbled upon.
I smell quite the oddball today in:
– iris nazarena (wow, what a beauty!
– Vetiver tonka (very nice!!! Reminds me a little bit of fat electrician),
– iris ukiyoe (beautiful but so fleeting)
– Bottega veneta pour homme parfum (this one wins when it comes to sillage and longevity, pretty good esp compared to lot of other designer frags these days)
– Epice marin (makes me hungry, smells like something good is cooking haha)
I found a dress and a blouse. 40% off. Yay!
Btw I made a detour via Skins (niche perfume shop) especially for Heeley’s Sel Marin you folks recommended yesterday, but the tester was totally empty. Haha. I’ll just have to order a sample…
Vetiver Tonka is so good, just delicious in Fall/Winter.
Today was a warm spring day (24 degrees celcius, sunny), and it smelled good in this weather as well.
If I ever get to buy that Hermessence travel set, this may end up in it.
I tend to wear it in cooler weather as well, as it smells like a wool fisherman’s sweater to me.
Wearing John Galliano John Galliano for the oddball week. Unique and enchanting. Before I tried it, I had never known that incense, florals and aldehydes could be so beautiful together.
I still wish I had his original Diptyque candle…such a great scent.
What was it like?
I reviewed the room spray here:
https://nstperfume.com/2005/03/08/diptyque-essence-of-john-galliano-home-fragrance-review/
Saw your link below — did not know they still made the candle! No idea if it’s really the same, it’s been so long.
That may be my favorite candle. I have bought quite a few by now, I currently have one burning and as far as I can tell it has not changed at all. Just a nice nice smoky incense.
Thanks for the link. ‘Church incense’? Sounds good. JG perfume definitely has a lot of incense, but I would not call it a church incense. I guess the perfume, candle and room spray would compliment each other well.
Thanks adanst!
This one? http://www.diptyqueparis.com/john-galliano-scented-candle.html
Iris and incense again – must be nice!
I have the John Galliano Diptyque room spray.
Very nice in a room, or on a body.
🙂
Wearing SMN Melograno generously splashed. Aldehydes, powder,
naughty and clean at once.
Very nice!
I love this one, I sampled it at the SMN store downtown and it was a lovely. You smell fantastic
My mom used to grow pomegranates. Melograno doesn’t smell at all like the fruit to me, but it’s gorgeous in its own right. A lovely choice.
Thanks-SMN has many lovely and/ or intriguing scents.
Olivine Atelier Full Regalia perfume oil. Not odd, just beautiful vanilla with a touch of floral.
You smell great! I’m saving the remainder of my sample for cooler weather. It’s a cimfort scent to me.
Profumum Roma Ichnusa today. Because I found my sample as I worked on packing my closet for our upcoming move. I love this one for its shape-shifting.
You smell great! I wore it a while ago. If i ever empty my bottle of Philosykos edt I’ll replace it with this one (why not both? Well I am not that big of a fig fan)
The Profumum Roma scents i tried so far are pretty good!
Haven’t tried that one- it’s another Italian house with so many terrific or just interesting scents.
I’ve been packing things up also for a house decluttering and future move. Good luck! A small cabinet holds so much more to move than seems apparent when you are just living with it.
Story sounds interesting – I may need to try it.
SOTD is PdE Equistrius thanks to a spur-of-the-moment split with a couple of other NSTers. Equistrius is just lovely – a soft leathery iris with a little spice. Yummy.
Nice!
You smell maaahhvelous, dahling! 😉
But interesting that you get “soft leather” – on me it’s definitely the advertised chocolate note.
Definitely leather. Not “bandaid” leather – more like handbag leather. And no chocolate on me. Isn’t it weird (and great) how fragrances give everyone a slightly different experience?
I am fully embracing summer today: Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge is just the right fragrance. This is one bottle that I’d splurge on if I had the money…. and no other jasmine fragrances! But it is in a dead tie with the Diptyque special edition jasmine as my most favorite jasmine ever. I feel lucky to have a small decant!
One of the great scents from Tom Ford. This was the first TF I ever purchased. You smell great.
You chose well!!!
You smell fabulous!
I wore it last night and I got this lovely remark from my husband:
“this scent is so good, and it is so ‘you’, it fits you”.
That is a great compliment!!!
Oooh, you smell incredible! Waft some over here, please!
Cooler today with sticky humidity. A multiple shower day so……
Apres la douche (yeah, I wrote it! !!! LOLOLOL) I applied “Raw Sbea Butter body lotion w/ frankincense & myrrh ” Shea Moisture brand.
I smell medicinal myrrh and……..?!?
I’m stumped.
I like it.
I’ve never smelled anything quite like it.
Anybody use this?
Any body use this?
😉
Triple strength coffee.
Carpe Diem. Peace.
SHEA butter
not
Sbea.
This keyboard…..sheeeeeesh.
I used to have that but didn’t use it much, partly because it was so thick and hard to get out of the bottle.. I’m not sure I could ever figure out the smell either. It actually didn’t really smell like either of those things to me.
Yes Elisa P, I’m waiting for the day I crack the rigid plastic bottle.
Storing upside down, and vigorously shaking aren’t enough to use it.
Great hand workout though!
LOL. 😉
I actually get out my very sharp knives and cut through rigid plastic containers, spoon out the lotions/creams and put them in empty plastic pots that hold things like body butters. OFten when the lotion is thick it does not want to come out and can’t be squeezed out if the plastic container is too rigid.
I do that too, chocolatemarzipan8 !
Just waiting for my hands to start the process.
LOL
Their soaps are fantastic.
Yes!
SOTD is Sables for the first time. I am loving it and will probably be adding it to my theoretical “to buy” list. Even my guy said, “wow you smell great!” when he kissed me goodbye this morning. I love that it’s unique and not like anything really that I’ve worn before.
You smell fabulous!
I love Sables!
Hi, everyone. I’m now in San Francisco, and very relieved to be here. Yesterday became a nightmare for a few hours, and even with the redoubtable presence of the dear man, I found it slightly scary. For all sorts of horrible complications that I am not going to trouble you with, we missed our flight, were rebooked hours later, and got to our hotel near midnight–oh, just all sorts of things happened. It dawned on me yesterday that I’m instinctively worried by the police here because even when they want to help, I can’t help but notice that they’re wearing guns! Guns!! Anyway, we were both riding an adrenaline surge, so then we couldn’t sleep, and now we’re tired, but it’s Wednesday, and yesterday is over.
And what perfume cleanses bad memories? Well, many might, but I’ve chosen Acqua Viva, because I saw it mentioned yesterday, and I bought a small bottle of it at Fumerie. Oh, it’s lovely, and perfect for purpose: vivid, clean, a startlingly bright lemon that will probably need touching up many times, but will be entirely refreshing in the gathering warmth of the day.
It’s not at all fair to label Vanilla Flash an oddball, but I can’t help wondering whether it doesn’t lean slightly that way. I put it on last night (well, I needed to stop thinking, and I thought that vanilla might help). I got a not unpleasant but huge hit of cognac-soaked tobacco, with some rose, a touch of patchouli, and somewhere in the mix, a swift. swirl of vanilla. “Flash” is exactly the accurate name for the perfume: on my skin, the vanilla flashes past like a cheetah after a rabbit, but this morning, the sheets where my wrists rested smell of very good, very dark, boozy, pure vanilla, and how nice that is!
Off to find some breakfast, then unpack, the plunge into the city. Be well, all.
If you want a truly decadent breakfast, may I recommend Tartine at 18th and Guerrero? Their croissants (regular, chocolate, ham and cheese, and almond) are beyond to-die-for, and all the rest of their offerings are delicious too.
AND you will be within sniffing distance from Tigerlily perfume shop! Enjoy your morning! Any chance you’ll be on the Oakland side of the Bay?
I don’t really know where Oakland is in relation to me — severely challenged sense of direction here. We’re staying in a hotel on Geary St (I think). We have four days and no specific plans, so I could catch a train, but aren’t you supposed to be busy with a writing project ? I’d love to meet you for a cup of coffee somewhere, but I don’t want to contribute to a missed deadline!
If you look out across the bay and see these: https://thumbs.dreamstime.com/x/row-cargo-cranes-tower-over-shoreline-oakland-harbor-february-nice-day-surrounding-hills-43987339.jpg , I live in the hills that are behind them (from your vantage point in SF).
Would love to monopolize your time for a morning, but I know there are completing activities when you are traveling. You can ping me at ann dottie eisenberg attagirl comcast dottie net 🙂
Seconded for Tartine, it is AMAZING. Highly recommend the chocolate eclairs and croque monsieur with a gibralter to drink.
Thank you! I will find my way there tomorrow. Sounds stupendous!
enjoy SF! Such a beautiful city
Vanilla flash was mainly pipe tobacco and rose on my skin. That’s why I love it! But I agree, it wasn’t the “Va Va Voom Vanilla” I was expecting.
Sorry you had a rough day and I’m wih you on that gun thing….very unsettling to see armed police. Hooe your time in Sun Fun cisco goes well.
Oh dear. And today of all days. The news about the UPS facility is on all the airwaves. Hope you are enjoying the sun, good long walks, and a little perfume!!!
I hear you on being alarmed seeing armed police. I’m American and it freaks me out, too. Even more terrifying is seeing armed individuals out in public – at the grocery store, gas station, wherever. Hope the rest of your trip goes smoothly and is enjoyable.
Yes! That is alarming, to say the least!
If you found the US police alarming, I recommend you don’t visit Israel. Heavily armed military personnel everywhere. It was unsettling. That said, it was one of the most fascinating trips I’ve ever been on.
Thanks to Wendysue, I’m wearing a Jo Malone for the first time ever. I fished in the samples that she sent me from the freebiemeet and pulled out Blackberry & Bay. This may be one I will buy a decant of, because I am enjoying it. Perfect for a hot and humid Texas day.
Blackberry&Bay is delightful! You smell fabulous.
You smell fabulous. JM is made for layering, so you can try that as well.
Wearing Sel de Vetiver again today, since all I brought on my trip was that and Nuit de Tubereuse. NdT has been a bit overpowering in the heat (even with delicate application) and I don’t want to distress my coworkers. I have been dabbing it on generously before bed though.
I need to pull out my decant of NdT. I think I prefer it in the heat as I tried it in cool weather and it felt a bit flat to me. Love the cardamom!
You smell great!
I wore it a lot on vacation a few weeks ago. Its so nice in warmer weather and officr friendly indeed. But now the sprayer of my sample is broken.
Office, not officr
Fat fingers
Though a smell that is ‘officer friendly’ sounds kinda hilarious haha
Good morning!
Back in Clarins Eau Dynamisante. Good stuff….gonna be a favorite this summer! 🙂
oh I liked that one. Drained a bottle some time ago and just never got around to replacing it.
I have an ancient still going bottle of Eau Dynamisante. I bought it in the late 90s when I wanted something just so French and not too costly. I love the glamor of that red bottle. I like the way it smells too – it was totally different than my orientals I normally wear. I am glad Clarins still makes it. Sometimes I drag out the old bottle and give it a go… or spray my husband. I found to my surprise a few years ago, that is smells very similar to AG Eau de Sud (original).
First off, my thoughts and prayers go out to all of those involved in this morning’s incident.
I found a sample in my stash this morning that’s kind if a summer scent; Replica’s Beach Walk. This kind of reminds me of Wood Sage&Sea Salt. It definitely smells like Summer. Stay cool everyone!
Prayers & thoughts also for those involved in terrible incident this morning.
Yes — just read about it now, rather late. Terrible.
I’m wearing Jo Malone Orange Blossom today layered with JM Blackberrry & Bay bath oil.
Tea is Laduree Josephine tea.
That combination sounds heavenly! You smell amazing!
In Bvlgari Au de Vert. It is almost gone by now, so fleeting. I will be respraying during the day. The bottle is almost gone, so I think I will finish it today.
Last year my boss complimented my Profumum Acqua di Sale. I gave her a sample and a 10ml decant that she finished in 3 days. It was so strong that she was driving us crazy. Finally, this year for mother’s day she received a full bottle. And guess… she has been spraying or should I say bathing herself in it, since then. She told me this morning her bottle is almost gone. Being in a meeting with her closed doors has become a torture and people joke that it is easy to know where she is by following the traces of the perfume. She has already triggered migraines, dizziness, allergies in some people. I suggested her that 1 spray for me was more than enough since this it pretty strong, but I do not think she understood my message. In fact she does not have to. She is enjoying it and I am glad for her. What it is making me sad is that Acqua di Sale is one of my favorites perfumes for summer and she is not only killing my desire to wear it, but considering how much hated it is righ now, I am afraid that if I wear it, I can be condemned to death at any time 😀 But wait… she just asked me few weeks ago what perfume I was wearing, because it was pretty: Bottega Veneta Eau Legere… and now she is the proud owner of a full bottle…… I am looking for a new job now 😀 😀 😀
You’ve created a monster! You definitely deserve a raise???? I have the same relationship with Aromatics Elixir. A woman at work wears it daily and oversprays and it lingers after she leaves. Too much. It put me off from a perfume I otherwise like.
I am not going to get a raise… I will get fired for it! :D:D:D:D
That is so funny!! The Chair of our Parent Council at school wears so much perfume that Insects drop out of the air in her wake. One of our teachers popped over to the grocery store at lunch hour but as soon as she walked through the door she could smell Mrs. X’s perfume so she ran back out to her car and came back to school because she didn’t want to deal with her.
Oh God! this is so hilarious! I have not stopped laughing since I read your post 😀 😀
????????????
How awful is it if the can smell you before they see you…????
Oh boy. She must be quite a force to be reckoned with if her scent alone causes people to run away.
True confession: one of my colleagues that I don’t care for drinks hazelnut flavored coffee, and I will take other routes to my classroom if I smell that coffee in order to avoid the person carrying it.
Amazing how different types of smells can cause negative reactions on us 😀
Hahaha what a story!
Most Profumums are strong, bold and blunt (in a good way). If I recall correctly the concentration in most of the bottles is somewhat higher than in a normal edp/edt.
I have a bottle of Arso and I cannot imagine overspraying it. I think I would drown and suffocate in pine and resins myself 🙂
I have tried Nifea, Ambra Aurea, Aquae Nobilis and Dulcis in Fundo and they all have enormous longevity and sillage. Hope none of them land on her hands (sigh!) 😀
IF you don’t mind me asking which is your favorite and why?
CM8, my favorite besides Aqua di Sale is Ninfea. I have the tendency to like fresh green fragrances and Ninfea smells like fresh cut grass, with roses and violets as the main notes. It is like being in a garden. Ambra Aurea is nice. I got lots of frankincense and the amber is very rich and sweet. I enjoyed the sample, but it never went to my fb shopping list. Aquae Nobilis is very green: wormwood and and vetiver. I found it too strong and did not like it much. Dulcis in Fundo was all vanilla with an initial blast of lemon. Like lemon pudding. It did not appeal to me at all. I hope Ninfea might become a fb reality in the future, but with those prices…..
AH!!! I have a similar story…
A coworker of my loved Omnia by Bvlgari, I use to wear that in the early 2000’s..so I bought her a bottle. Everyday..her hair..her clothes..her body..covered and bathed in Omnia.
I can’t stand the smell of it now..oh well. And I have moved on anyways..and I don’t work there anymore.
But good grief
Good grief if she decided to at least move to another department or floor, but that is just a dream. I hope she does not ask me anymore for the perfume I am wearing, but I really doubt it 🙁
The exact same thing happened to me with my boss and Chamade! I’ve tried since I left the company last year, but I just can’t wear it now. 🙁 Consequently, my bottle is sitting on ebay right now.
Oh! no! as Elisa P. says, we have created monsters. Hoping my beloved Acqua di Sale does not have the same ebay fate 🙁
🙂
No good deed goes unpunished.
🙂
😀 😀
So true????
I’m laughing but at the same time so sorry for you!
At least we have a good reason to laugh 😉
I’m in awe of your boss finishing a bottle of perfume in almost a months’ time. But sorry for you though – man if she heavy-handed Ambra Aurea ????
Don’t even say it. She can hear you 😀 . Just the thoughts gives me no only chills, but also fever 😀 😀
This thread is making me smile ear to ear. You guys are all awesome.
😀 😀 😀
I agree. I’m not sure where else on the net you can get recommendations for good shoes, good books, good places to travel, good tea, good fragrance, and oh, a good laugh.
Did I miss anything?
You covered all! 😀
????????????????????
Oh geez. If she’s already bought 2 scents of yours, you might consider avoiding wearing any that you really couldn’t live with potentially coming to hate. Because that would seriously be a shame.
And you could also try wearing some low-sillage stuff for a while. She might not be inclined to steal those too…or if she does, at least they would be more difficult to overspray.????
I am seriously considering those options, otherwise I will be a perfume orphan ????????.
No oddball for me today. I’m in Le Labo Ylang 49. I think this one is beautiful but I wish the floral opening lasted longer before transitioning to the woods.
I have gotten lots of compliments when I wear that one. Then again, NYC I feel like is a le labo city 😉
A woman at work told me I smelled nice ???? She said “you always smell different, herbally”. Another woman at work once complimented Iris 39 and she went to Saks to find Le Labo. I think she ended up with Tubereuse 40. I appreciate Le Labo more than I used to.
Wow! You are an (expensive) influence.
I gave away a sample of Ylang 49 at a hair salon. This woman was so smitten with it, I just reached into my purse and handed it over. The fact that you can smell Ylang49 at a hair salon with all those other smells says a lot about the strength or maybe I over applied!
Thay was sweet of you! I actually applied very little so was surprised someone could smell it on me.
you smell wonderful. this one is on my full bottle list.
Thanks! Get it! Get it! Get it! (my subtle enabling tactic)
That’s one gorgeous perfume! You smell amazing.
Muchas gracias! I think they did a really nice job with this one. And of course I don’t smell any ylang ????
Sampling Mugler Hot Cologne for the first time. An oddball because I don’t have any other Colognes. Other than smelling like citrus, I can’t say much else about it, because it disappeared after thirty minutes. I might spray more lavishly next time.
Never heard of that one and it certainly does sound like an oddball. Coffee + citrus? Intriguing…
Whoa Hot Cologne? what is this mystery?
It’s new from their Les Exceptions line. I really need to spend more time with it.
Does it count as odd that I’m not wearing anything yet? 😉 However I did just get out of a meeting with my boss (she wears Shalimar!). How’d I end up with a fantastic boss who ALSO smells fantastic?
She has great taste..and its better you went commando as to not compete with Shalimar 😉
Your boss is a woman after my own heart. 😉
And fortunately (unlike the boss stories above!) she applies with a light hand — usually just enough to get a whiff.
Do you talk perfume with her?
Today I drained my decant of Chanel Boy and oh boy, do I need a backup? Yes, I do!
I was thinking that was a rhetorical question 🙂
Ha! You saw through me 😉
After a perfume miss yesterday (Chant d’Aromes), I needed a tried and true favorite so I went with vintage Shalimar edc. This seems to have much less tonka and vanilla than the other iterations making it perfect for heat and humidity.
Keep sending out light, love and positive thoughts, beautiful NSTers. <3
I wore Shalimar extrait, last week even though it was HOT and I was going to work. Usually I only wear it as a bedtime scent. I was surprised how well it seemed to go with my stressful work day, and to transition between hot summer weather and cold a/c in my office. It is amazing how Shalimar smells good in all kinds of weather!
I wear mine to work sometimes too — just a wee lil dab can be perfect.
Shalimar deserves it long lived classic status! And you’re right – it’s good in all seasons!
You smell terrific.
Thanks! 🙂
Sadly, this tells me we are not twins. Even though I love almost every other vintage Guerlain, I can’t stand Shalimar. I think I amp civet.
I was going to ask you how you feel about carnation. Because I’m obsessed with it. I have so many carnation fragrances! And if you don’t love vintage Bellodgia extrait, you most definitely are not my twin.
But it’s okay. I don’t have any sisters in real life (just a brother). So I can use as many scent sisters as I can find!
I’m not daunted! 😉 I’ve been a “Guerlie-Girl” since high school lo these many years ago, and I only came to love Shalimar a few years ago! Start with the edc, much milder on the skank.
My first bottle of L’Heure Bleue wasn’t until 2008 because I always loathed anise (or anything that smelled faintly like licorice) and now it’s one of my favorites!
I love carnation and think Bellodgia is gorgeous! Unfortunately, I can’t wear it because the clove in it is too caustic on my sensitive skin. I am able to wear Guerlain’s Voile d’Ete though with no problem. I think because the carnation and thus the clove is weaker.
Very interesting! I have heard that about Shalimar EdC before. Will give it a try sometime.
Haha, you love carnation! I like Voile d’Ete as well, but other carnation favorites include: SMN Garofano, Prada No. 2 Oeillet, Metallica/Metalys (which I only have decants of–prefer Metalys, I think), Malmaison (all gone), and DSH Fleuriste.
Have you explored the DSH line? I say that because Dawn uses only very small amounts of synthetics and everything I’ve tried from there, whether it is to my taste or not, never causes any of the dreaded synthetic overload or spiky undertones.
I’ve probably only tried 8 or 10 of the DSH line and that was years ago now. They all seemed to have the same base. I liked them okay, but not enough to purchase. I probably need to try some more. What do you recommend?
At Children’s Hospital w my son in the day hospital rerunning a test. Earlier in the spring he was dxed with adrenal insufficiency, which among many other life changes means his school has to have an RN onsite with him at all times. Anyway, I wanted the test rerun, just to double check. So feeling a little grim but there we are. In Cristalle, and reading NST . . . there are kids here so much sicker than my own. And everyone is talking Warriors. I think I’m in a ward full of warriors.
Sending a prayer out to you and your son, Oakland. I hope the test results give you the clear answers you’re looking for.
I know you and your son are warriors and will meet every challenge with courage. Praying for you.
Sounds hard. I’m always amazed at how children respond to illness. Warrior is a good way to describe it. They seem to handle it better than a lot of adults do.
Sending happy, healing thoughts <3 <3 <3
Good luck with the test. You smell wonderful in Cristalle.
Your son and you will be in my positive thoughts today, Oakland Fresca.
I am such a klutz at basketball,
American football, now that is my jam.
Golden State.
My thoughts and prayers with you and your son. Sending hugs.
They are warriors! And their parents are in the fight as well. Praying for your warrior son, and his fighting momma.
Sending positive thoughts to you and all the warriors at the hospital.
That does sound grim. Sending you a hug
Sending healing light to your son. Stay strong – channel your inner Curry!
Wishing you and your son the best of luck.
Sending love and strength to you and your son.
Adding more good thoughts…stay strong!
Fingers crossed for good results!
Sending healing thoughts, Oakland.
Hugs and best wishes for your son.
Sending every good thought to you, your son, and all of the other little warriors.
Hope everything went well! So difficult I’m sure.
A long hard day. I hope things are calm and smell comforting for you now.
I’m in samples of Mark Buxton Sleeping with Ghosts on the left and ELDO You or Someone Like You on the right, both courtesy of thoughtful NSTers.
They both have oddball names, so that’s my participation angle. ????
Really liking the Buxton. It’s so well blended, it’s hard to pick out the notes. Fruity and floral, then vanilla/vetiver at the drydown.
The ELDO is spearminty and green at first, but it thankfully gets citrusy later on.
Have a good day, all. Stay safe.
I loved the first 10 minutes of the ELDO (green! minty! zippy!) and then it just turned to nasty soap on my skin. But oh, those first 10 minutes were glorious!
That’s a bummer! But thanks again for sending it to me to try. 🙂
I’ve been wearing a lot of “You” this summer, too! I too am thankful that the minty-ness calms down after a while. On me, many perfumes turn insipidly-sweet after the drydown, but this one actually dries into a woodsy rose for me after a few hours. Even though I wore something else today, I can still smell “You” on my watch wristband. Mmmmm.
Oh, yeah, I’ve had plenty go sweet on me, and that’s a real no-go for me.
I’ll try this again and see if I get a woodsy rose. It’s kind of a chameleon.
Today I am wearing my old standby Hermes Hiris. I still love it after all these years. I haven’t tried the new clear bottle yet but hope it’s the same. (I had quite a few back-up bottles in the frosted dark blue bottle.)
You smell amazing. Hiris is my number one favorite perfume, although I didn’t try it until after the new bottles were introduced. Smells incredible to me!
I was bowled over by a wonderful package from therabbitsflower I received yesterday and am trying out some Seville a l`Aube and Oriental Lounge today.
I am in a bit of what I would describe as an anxious funk and trying to remember that this too will pass…the state of the union is also not helping I might add… 😉
Sister, I hear you. Anxious funk is a great way to describe it.
Practically a nonsequiter, but discovered (go ahead and eye roll if you are way ahead of me) yesterday a new funk band that I cannot wait to blast when I get home. The band is Con Brio, and the new album is Paradise. 100% satisfaction guaranteed!!
For California folks, Michael Krazney interviewed the band on Forum yesterday–hence my brilliant discovery….
Listening now…they will be in San Diego later this month… 🙂
What do you think of Seville?
I only put a little on but so far I wasn’t that keen on it ???? And I think it might be honey and/or beeswax which sometimes bothers me in perfume. I shall try it again.
I am liking Oriental Lounge. I felt like I couldn’t smell it at first then it all of a sudden bloomed on me. I have Jasmin de Nuit and I see some similarities. ????
Thanks again for all the swag!
But of course!
And I meant to say above that I wasn’t initially a fan of Seville. I thought it smelled like grapes or grape juice. I liked it enough to keep trying it, and it grew on me a lot. But then, I LOVE honey and beeswax notes.
I’m glad you’re hitting it off with Oriental Lounge though.
It’s a little cooler today, yesterday was phenomenally hot out. Today I am wearing no 19 edp.
Cheers for today’s weather. You smell gorgeous!
You smell soooooo lovely!
Nice!
Mojave Ghost courtesy of the lovely Amy. I have been eating way too much lately. I’m doing a reset here. Check myself before I wreck myself, so to speak.
How do you like the Mojave Ghost?
I had to do a similar check a few months back. 🙂
I have decided finally that I do like it. I had been on the fence where I would like it, and then find it a bit cloying, back and forth. But I officially like it. I don’t own anything that smells similar, and I’d love to have a bottle.
You smell good! You’ve inspired me to dig out my sample.
😀
SOTD Eau d’hiver, Frederic Malle. Time to get rid of this, I just can’t smell it.
are you in the US? would you be interested in swapping? 😀
No, I’m in Canada.
Even if you can’t smell it, trust that you smell subtly terrific to others.
Lean in so I can smell you? That is one of my top 5 scents. I feel so bad that you cannot smell it 🙁
Rest assured, the remainder of the world loves when you wear it.
I’ve been wearing it under that assumption, but I’m really not getting any joy from it myself and life is too short.
What a shame that you can’t smell it! I couldn’t smell any of the Escentric Molecules “Molecule” scents when I tried them, although my husband and friends said I smelled amazing and should invest in full bottles immediately. I refuse to buy something that I can’t smell myself – I’m wearing perfume for me, darn it!
That’s it exactly!
Blame it on the musk! L’eau d’Hiver is very musky on me, so I must be smelling your share.
The heat wave has finally broken and we’re back to our regularly-scheduled June weather. No oddball for me today – I’m in Elie Saab L’eau Couture.
How’s the neroli hunt going?
Thanks for asking! The hunt continues. Recently I ordered a Neroli fragrance from an indie natural perfumer called Sarabecca. Tested it out at a local grocery store and it was a lovely neroli soliflore. Can’t wait til it gets here so I can spend more time with it!
I realized that I have another HdP recommendation for you, holyneroli. Check out 1725, Casanova. It strongly reminded me of shaving cream.
B of E today! Cheers all✌????
Took me 5 minutes to figure out B of E 🙂
Perhaps B of E is a candidate for the Perfume Glossary, lol.
I’m wearing some dabs from a sample of Cajan from Parfums de Marly. Oh my, this is spicy. It’s cinnamon + rubber–I don’t think it’s for me!
That would be “Oajan”, that darned spell correct.
Also I saw Wonder Woman yesterday and loved it–was wishing I’d had something like that back when I was a little girl, oh so long ago.
I’m wearing Tom Ford Orchid Soleil. This oddball tuberose smells like buttered rice! I have fallen in love and I need a bottle.
Oh dear, buttered rice. Now I need to try that one.
I really love this one. You smell fabulous!
Love it! Such a great summer scent.
I get loads of butter from that one, too.
Killian Intoxicated, thanks to a lovely NST pal. Don’t know if this is quite an “oddball,” but I was so excited to try the decant I had to put it on first thing today.
(did anyone else have a parent who made them “save” new shoes, or whatever, for a proper time–a decision probably borne of common sense or thriftiness, but as a result you want to wear the new toys promptly?)
How do you like it? I’m a fan.
So far, so good. It reminds me of A*Men pure coffee, I think next time I’ll do a more thorough dousing to get more coffee…
Parents and saving thing – always! My mom also made me wait until I was 16 to get my ears pierced. I worked around that by gluing pearls on my earlobes. 🙂
I swear that my sister ran away and got married at 16 because our parents wouldn’t let her get her ears pierced.
My parents made us save almost everything until a later day. It made me want to scream like Veruca Salt, but I knew that wasn’t going to get me anywhere.
I really like Intoxicated. How does it satisfy your craving for a coffee note?
heh, I just wrote to Laura, that I think I have to spray more to get some more coffee out of it
Yes! Every summer before the start of the new school year, my mom would buy my sister and I each two new outfits, but wouldn’t let us wear them until school started. I actually didn’t mind the wait because it gave me a little something to look forward to.
Riding out this mini heat wave in No. 22 today. Nothing odd about this one!
Nope, nothing odd–lovely!
SOTD is S-Perfume “Musk S”. Oddball because: was sent as a substitution for a requested free sample, and it’s not familiar to me.
Notes: chestnut, floral notes, musk, vanilla and amber.
I can’t smell anything, so it turns out I’m as anosmic to modern designer musks as to any other sort. Yay me. :^)
yay you!
some musks can shut down my sense of smell for hours.
I’m wearing Patou Sira des Indes today. I should’ve worn this for the skin scent Friday because that’s pretty much what it is now. It gets quiet pretty quickly, so I kind of forgot what I was wearing.
SOTD = Profumum Roma Acqua Viva
Straight up whole lemon. It has body and you would not mistake this for an ordinary lemon cologne. Insprayed with abandon because FB (ok, I counted – 5) and it is still very much present 6+ hours later. YMMV.
YUM, lemon smells extra delicious this time of year. It’s like a wake up call for the nose, “Summer’s comin’, get ready!”
I’m in the oddball Zoologist Bat today. Oddball week has been fun for me, and I’m glad it came around before the weather gets any warmer in Seattle. Most of the scents I consider oddball are better suited to cool or mild temps.
Also, yesterday I succumbed to the hype of possible Serge Lutens discontinuations and bought bottles of A La Nuit and Gris Clair. GC is a backup bottle and A La Nuit is the first time I’ll have a FB. I’ve only had decants and a partial bottle with less than 10ml from eBay up until this. Still pondering the need for a bottle of Arabie.
Sigh. Gris Clair is such a divine scent – I’m working very hard to resist the lure of a backup for myself.
Oh dear, is Gris Clair on the discontinuation list? It’s one of my go-to scents.
Honestly, I’m not entirely sure where the information has come from. Someone posted about it here last week, and there’s a thread on Basenotes about it with 10 perfumes listed to discontinue. If it’s all just hoohah, then I’m still happy with my purchases. ????
Love that ball! Today I’m enjoying Violet Blonde with one spritz of Eau de Protection. Not sure what made me reach for the EdP after I put on VB. But they play together quite nicely. ????
Wearing Après l’Ondée today. Am I alone in thinking this is a great summer scent because it’s very cool?
Trying to think of what I have that might be an oddball scent. How about Luctor et Emergo?
Apres l’Ondee makes me think of very early morning in summer, when there is a bit of light but not yet any heat.
I agree, lovely choice for summer
Infusion d’Iris edp. The tiniest bit, so i barely smell myself 🙁
Thanks to everyone for the good wishes yesterday – family drama is still drama-ing, but there are so many things in this world to be grateful for that I am choosing to focus on those instead. I am very grateful for the delicious jelly beans that I just ate, and I am extremely grateful for the beautiful Jasmin et Cigarette that I am wearing.
Autocorrect wanted to change jelly beans to jelly exams. Huh??
Wearing Artist’s Studio : wet plaster, turps and canvas. Basically house renovations without the mess, work, or clean-up. This was a blind buy prompted by Johanob – would love to know how his perfume room is going, and what style it is: modernist chic, dark wood gentlemen’s club or Bond villain futuristic.
Will switch to Interlude later .
I thought about this perfume today while I was at an art supply store on my lunch break and noting how much I was enjoying the smell in there-then I remembered Artist’s Studio and Johanob (and wondering how he is)…
Hey, I started reading The Kingdom of Olives and Ash. Powerful stuff.
Yeah, it is. I got tearful listening to Yehuda Shaul talk about why he helped start Breaking the Silence but heartening to see someone (so young) moved by their own experience to try to create change. I like the Michael Chabon story about the guy who makes soap!
Cool here and I am enjoying the deep drydown of PHI. It’s one I usually only think about in winter, but I’ve discovered it works other times of the year as well.
Oh, and btw, Robin – we were supposed to remind you to buy something-or-other when beautyhabit had a sale, but I can’t remember what it was. I was supposed to remember to pick something up too, but now I’ve forgotten what. Just as well, I suppose *shrug*
Code is SUMMER20.
HA — that’s right. Off to look!
SOTD is Jean-Charles Brousseau Ombré Rose. I still can’t decisively put my finger on what it is that it reminds me of. It’s something from my childhood, and it’s *not* Ombré Rose being worn by someone. My gut is leaning towards it being the interior of my grandparents’ travel trailer…
The Ombre Rose bottle is extra pretty, and so is the scent.
Yes and yes!
I’m wearing Smell Bent’s Never Never Land today. It’s a bit of an oddball – I smell eucalyptus, although that’s not in the list of notes. In any case, I love it!
Oh, and darn it – I had something on my “if Beautyhabit has a sale” list and I can’t remember it either!
I have that same list except unfortunately I completely remember what is on it. I’m trying to be good…
I know, me too. I ordered from them after Christmas, with the 20% off. I’ve been bad lately; Donatella will be happy with me.
I had a massage this morning, so I was unscented up until now. I almost twinned with Deva in B of E, but went with TF Shanghai Lily instead.
Hey Almost Twin! Hope the massage was effective ????
I’m a little worse for wear now than I was when I woke up this morning. I had to take one of the cats to the vet, and she DID NOT want to go. I need to remember to wear long sleeves when I wrangle cats.
SOTD = ELdO’s Remarkable People. Nope, this is not for me. I’m getting a gigantic hit of laundry musk. 🙁
yes! to long sleeves for kitty wrangling. I feel your pain. Once I arrived at a vet office in tears, and the staff thought there was a pet emergency. I showed them the gash on my arm, and they took me into the exam room for a free antiseptic/ bandaging “treatment” before they attended to my cats. heh, fun times.
and no! to laundry musk, blergh. 😉
Thankfully, no bloody gashes on me this time! Just a few small punctures. The vet office I go to use this stuff called Feliway, which really does seem to take the wild, scared vibe down several notches with my cats. The cats are absolute sweeties once they get to the vet… it’s just the carrier that they hate.
Feliway! I’ve used it to get a half feral cat in a carrier. Not doing that again, though. #stresslevelsahoy
I’m always telling people who adopt kittens from the shelter to feed their kitten treats only in the carrier to try to get them to associate it with something that they like.
I worked in veterinary medicine for several years and we kept a pair of welder’s gloves on hand for difficult kitties at my clinic…now that I’m out of it, I wish I had a pair, but I usually have to fall back on just wearing my old leather jacket when bringing one of my cats in since she turns into a pit viper the second she comes out of the carrier!
That’s a bummer about Remarkable People though. :/ I’ve been meaning to try that one and my set of samples is older and came with Fils de Dieu instead.
You ought to try your sample of Remarkable People anyway… you could get something totally different than what I did. I probably amplify certain musks, or am hypersensitive to them.
Angry cats are one of the most frightening things ever.
Having a huge meeting day, but Nombril Immense is helping to balance my chakras or something. BTW, will be referring to it as “big bellybutton” from now on, because it’s silly and amusing.
hee-hee, I like that bellybutton. Fragrance names can be silly.
Never smelled Corsica Furiosa but whenever I see it mentioned I wonder who is Corsica and why is she so upset?
Your bellybutton isn’t just big, it’s HUGE!
(Nice scent BTW) :^)
SOTD is Rossy De Palma Eau de Protection, which I can’t tell if I “love,” or just only “really like, but the bottle with the dragon on it is so awesome that I’ll shell out the $90 for it anyway.”
Fabulous dragon on that bottle. I’m imagining you smell wonderfully fierce.
That bottle does look really awesome. How’s the scent?
It’s the gingery rose that I was really wanted Atelier Cologne’s Rose Anonyme to be! I sampled that one as well, but the oud was just too blunt and heavy for my tastes. Kind of regretted wearing it out in the oppressive heat, but the juice + dragon bottle has me pretty much sold on it being my go-to “is it fall yet?” scent.
SotD = Eau des Merveilles again because Wednesday
Having a busy time with errands, details, and distractions. Looking forward to tomorrow, it will be better. Just putting that idea out there, hope the universe takes notice.
Sorry for the crazy day!
thanks, and me too. The busy bee stuff cuts into my perfume pondering time, heh.
Late to the party, but…today is my birthday, and despite the horrors of the world, I have had a good day. SOTD is Iris Poudré, which I sort of purchased on a whim when I saw the travel size at Nordstrom (mail order, but I love iris in general and Bourdon’s Bois d’Orage/French Lover is one of my favorites). I love IP, and, to my surprise, my h
(Sorry, commenting on my phone):
…my husband loves it (Iris Poudré) on me — surprising, because neither of us much cares for powdery scents, but IP’s powder reads on me as delicate and elegant, rather than full-bore talc.
oh, how wonderful that you both enjoy IP! a real treasure. And happy birthday!
Happy Birthday! Glad it was a good day!
Wearing Dior Diorissimo again, inspired by Creosote’s suggestion to spray it in my hair. Love it!
I’m off to make my artichoke-parmesan spread for snack day tomorrow; another staff member is leaving (and I like her) so I will go through the effort. It has lots of garlic in it too so my Diorissimo aura may be over soon.
You smell wonderful again! Glad you tried it in your hair. (This whole thing with the new hair mist versions of existing perfumes is such a scam!)
Your artichoke spread sounds fantastic. Yes, I suspect that in an olfactory version of rock/paper/scissors, garlic beats Diorissimo.????
