Friday scent of the day 6/9

Posted by Robin on 9 June 2017 385 Comments

passion fruit

Happy Fruity Friday! Our community project for today (a repeat from 2014): wear something fruity. It doesn't have to be a fruity floral, just something with plenty of fruit.

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm shockingly fruity in Arielle Shoshana Eau de Parfum.

Reminder: 6/16 will be Oddball Friday...wear a fragrance that smells like nothing else you own, or interpret oddball in some other oddball way. Suggested by Austenfan.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m having a fruity Friday with Bombay Bling from NVC :)
Lots of mango and lychee for me.

Thank you! It’s not my all-time favorite in JdE line-up (that would be Junky), but I enjoy Wilde a lot, and I actually can imagine Oscar Wilde wearing it. That said, I like almost all scents by Jardin d’Ecrivain, and I hope to add Marlowe and George to my collection as well.

Happy Fruity Friday! I’m on-theme in one of the very few fruity fragrances I own: Love & Toast Mandarin Tea. Orange blossoms, pomegranate, and rooibos tea. I blind-bought a mini splash bottle for something like $8. Highly recommend this cheap thrill to anyone who loves orange blossom.

My Friday night plans include going to the Arboretum for a night hike with wine and cheese to follow. Can’t wait!

Not really playing today, but I received a 20 % full bottle of Iris Ganache yesterday, and have therefore decided to spritz myself lavishly. A small touch of bergamot is the only fruit this one claims, but I smell so good.

Forgot to wear perfume before leaving the house (which happens almost never, I wear perfume if I am staying home and vacuuming). I saw today’s post as I was returning emails and getting tea and thought I have a decant of Bombay Bling in my desk drawer at work. It seems like a lot of tropical fruits I probably can’t name but should fit the bill.

I can’t remember when was the last time I forgot to wear perfume. On some occasions (not too often) I might choose not to wear it but probably never just forget.
I’m also wearing BB today. The main fruit I get from the opening is mango but after that – I’m not sure (and do not really care) but I love it!

My SOTD is fragrance I wore religiously every summer from 1994-1996- Escada Limited Edition 1994 Un Ete en Provence (with seven fruits!!!)

Top notes: pineapple, apple, cherry, nectarine and pear
Mid notes: jasmine, peony, lotus, cyclamen, lychee and watermelon
Base notes: praline, amber, cedar and sandalwood

This was the first bottle I purchased during my first trip to Paris and it is still in my top 20 scents of all time.

Also, testing The Pour Un Ete and Violette Verte …The reminds me a bit of Cristalle

One of my favourite scents, i wore it last night.

A lot of people consider this a christmas or winter scent but I love to wear this in summer as well.

The smell of pine and incense in summer is just magical.

Reminds me of the french Atlantic coast region, where I spent a lot of holidays when i was young.
Pine trees warming up under the hot sun, a visit to a roman church in one of those small beach towns in the Médoc, the boozy fruity smell of those gorgeous rich wines….

Actually, it seems like ‘Fille en Aiguilles’ might be one of the 8-10 fragrances Serge Lutens will discontue when his upcoming relaunch (new graphic design, 100ml bottles, etc.) will be introduced to the buying public.

(yes i am aware that ‘beloved’ does not equal ‘commercial succes’, but still …would be a shock for me. FeA has a special place in my heart. It made me fall in love (again) with perfume and pushed me down that rabbit hole…

I know what you mean. I just stocked up on ‘Serge Noire’ (in case it does get discontinued, which it increasingly looks like) and that is not exactly everybody’s favourite fragrance but I just really love it so much.

I’m horrified… In addition to the fact that I think 100 ml bottles (and bigger) should be outlawed in general ;), any new bottles/design, in my experience, means definite reformulation. :(

HAPPY FRIDAY!!!! Soooo ready for the weekend! :)

Super fruity in Bvlgari’s Omnia Paraiba. One of my favorite scents for summer, and one of the few my hubs seems to notice, because he likes passion fruit!

Have a good weekend! We are taking a day trip to Chattanooga tomorrow with the kids, to visit the Tennessee Aquarium and just take a break from work and summer school/grad school. Gotta remember to stop and breathe every now and then! :)

Have a happy weekend and breathe deeply! How fabulous to be able to visit Chattanooga ‘in real life’. Some places exist so strongly in the imagination through literature, music or the imagination that I get a jolt of pleasure when they are mentioned in a factual context. – and Chattanooga is one of those mythical locations.

House cousins..today I put on Omnia Coral lotion after my morning shower.

My hubs picked me up after work and said “do you have perfume on”?
I was a bit stunned because I couldn’t smell anything and he doesn’t say anything usually other than “that smells spicy” or “that smells musky” or ” that smells woodsy or powdery or sandalwoody”.

I asked him “what do my iris perfumes smell like?
      He says “they smell flowery”.

Clearly my work is still not done.

I don’t really have a lot of fruity in my collection, so I’m wearing Keiko Mecheri Peau de Peche from a sample. Peachy, for sure!

School is officially out for the summer! Woo hoo!
My daughter and I went to Lush the other day to get her teacher an end of the year gift. They really have a great collection of prepackaged gifts that I’d never paid attention to before. Then yesterday my husband forwarded me this article he saw on one of the blogs he reads

No fruity perfumes with me, unless you count the lemon-y zest of Chanel Eau de Cologne, but that doesn’t suit my mood or the temperature here at the moment. I’ve chosen Sycomore, but it’s really a bit too cold right now for it to bloom. Its austerity seems to match this landscape, though. It always feels slightly remote and brooding to me, and that fits well too.

We’re on the move again today, though not very far: about 100 miles down the road to see Mt Hood ( we travel hopefully) and other beauty. Yesterday was cold and intermittently rainy, but we still managed a couple of walks and a trip along along the Columbia. It’s magnificent country, but I was torn in my emotions between feeling awe at the engineering achievement (who couldn’t be impressed?) and deep sadness for the destruction of the sacred sites and millennia of ways of life along the river.

This is a restful holiday and I have time to do a lot of thinking. Every day I sleep better and feel well-er. I hope you’re all feeling as good as I do!

Old Man’s Beard ( clematis vitalba) is a common noxious weed here and yet I have never noticed its scent. It is the only weed to have had its own TV campaign when, back in the 1980s, the naturalistic David Bellamy was on our screens every evening with the catchcry “Old Man’s Beard Must Go!”

Cheating slightly as citruses are obviously a whole different perfume group, but the orangey Eau des Merveilles was too good to resist.

Love Eau des Merveilles, but I seldom get much orange from it. It’s a front-runner for next week’s “smells like nothing else I own” theme though.

Miyako! Leather & apricots. The more I wear this one, the more I like it.

Topic of discussion (if anyone cares to discuss): it seems like there is a hierarchy of fruits in the perfume world (from loved to loathed). My own ranking (with many blank spots) is below. What’s yours?

    0. Citrus — beloved, but not considered a fruit note by many
    1. Stone fruits (plum, peach, apricot) — loved and venerable (Femme, Iris Gris!)
    2. Weird over-ripe notes (rotting melon, papaya…)
    ….
    ….
    ….
10023. Generic “berries”, especially of the “sparkling” variety
    10024. Aquatic “melon”
    10025. “Froot”

Agree, beloved citrus often gets a zero ranking. Citrus top notes are so common and fleeting they are taken for granted.

As a citrus lover I really had to stretch my brain and nose for something fruity and low-citrus to wear today. That’s why Insolence edt won out over Un Jardin sur le Nil.

I like this list, but I would suggest inserting fig in there near the top, maybe as number 3? It’s one many people love and is featured in many popular fragrances that get respect.

I’m doing “an attack with fruit” today, so I’m wearing: Eau Exotique, Eau Turquoise, Eau à la Folie, Eau Corail and to top things off Escada’s Rockin’ Rio. Life doesn’t get much fruitier than this.

Sotd is the only recent Escada LE, that turned my head. Born in Paradise. It is of course fruity with pineapple, and guava, but has more vanilla and musk than some of the others. The other night my daughter graduated from eighth grade. When we were ready to leave the house she quick ran back to her room to spray her Tommy Girl! Icing on the cake for me:)

My choices were quite limited, since I don’t really have anything that showcases fruit much. Could have gone with Galop sample for quince or coconut via Terra-cotta. Wish I had more – seems to be a gap here…

Then I remembered the incredibly cheap rose/peach scent I bought last summer or fall at a WalMart. Created by Calice Becker. So, a spritz of Love 2 Love Fresh Rose + Peach for this morning. Fades quickly, don’t much like the opening…but it settles down as a pleasant skin scent in warm weather.

I haven’t smelled the old version in a long time, but I’ve read elsewhere (and my vague memories + a recent try of the new version confirms) that the Clinique version is a bit “cleaner” — I still found it enjoyable but less distinctive than I remembered.

I think I will follow eleanor_rigby and put on my sample of Jardins Ecrivans Wilde. I liked that one more than I expected to based on the notes. I’m heading to urgent care very soon to figure out why my eyelid is swollen and painful. Ugh, it hasn’t been a fun 18 hours, and I probably should have gone yesterday. I was hoping it would clear up on its own after I rested and used a warm compress last night. Anyway, I figure I shouldn’t scent myself too heavily for the doctor.

    SotD = Guerlain Insolence EdT

I laugh every time I spritz this violet-berry lollipop. A bit of powder and iris keeps me coming back for another sniff. Plus the little 30 ml bottle is crazy-cute.

Have a fabulous Friday, NST. You smell terrific.

Probably the fruitiest scent in my collection (If we can all agree on considering grapefruit/citrus as a fruity note ;)

Its a tie for me between this one and Mediterranee. :)

Après la Mousson was a dislike for me at first. But I tried it a few weeks ago when it was really hot weather, and suddenly it made more sense. I was not even bothered by the melon (Usually melon is a total miss for me).

I actually like the melon note in that one-probably because it’s watermelon and not cantaloupe or other musky melons. It smells like a watermelon agua fresca with a dash of cardamom to me. I actually wished the melon hung around longer.

I get a lot of the same impressions as you, Elisa. I really like Mousson. It comes in second place in the Jardin series for me, with Mediterranee in the top spot.

Citrus does not always get the love it deserves. Maybe we can compare them to great backup singers? – I recommend 20 feet from stardom, if you want to hear more about great backup singers by the way. Great watch.

And I think I’ll wear Dilettante later on tonight, more love to the great citrus family!
Dilettante is awesome by the way. Must try for orange blossom and orange lovers.

Wearing Hilde Soliani Ti Amo Il Tuo Tulipano, which is a little like a tutti frutti yogurt, all tangy and creamy fruit. It’s peach, passionfruit, lime, kiwi, blackcurrant, freesia, musk and sandalwood. Nice.

Today my choice is Memoire de l’Amour from Nostalgia Collection, a recent purchase. Listed top notes include apricot, plum, peach and apple, so I think it counts! Most of what comes across is milky vanilla. Very sweet and not my usual sort of thing but it’s just plain “pretty”, and is something to wear to get yourself into a good mood!

Thursday–Hermes Jardin sur le Nil (mango!)

Not sure if this qualifies – The Rising Phoenix Poisoned Fig. Spicy and very smoky fig. When I smell it, I get hungry – I get a mental association that someone took a fig, stuffed it with blue cheese, wrapped it in prosciutto, grilled it and then drizzled it with honey. I might just make this for dinner :)

    Happy Fruity Friday!

    SOTD = Chanel No. 5 L’Eau

Had the weather been cooler ?and not expected to get HOT, I would have worn SSS Equistrius for the apple note. Since Plan A was not going to work today, I opted for a perfume with fruit instead. L’Eau has a lot of citrus toned down by aldehydes. The flowers are also non-distinct. The overall effect is a.nice light Chanelesque perfume, perfect for the office. I used a heavy hand (8 sprays) and since no one moved away from me, I think I can wear 2-4 more sprays.

After wearing Hermes Rhubarbe Ecarlate for 2 days I realized I have another scent with rhubarb note- Amouage Honour- my SOTD.
Lovely fresh white floral with rhubarb and pepper, at least this is what I am getting through runny nose.

I almost wore that one today! The rhubarb in it somehow always reminds me of apple. Maybe it’s just some general dessert association?

I’m traveling today and tried to participate at the airport store, but got distracted by my first sniff of Prada iris cedrat, which smelled a lot like a delicious cola (and I was very thirsty). Otherwise I would probably have gone with Alien, which no matter how much I smell it smells like grape jolly rancher to me.

I wish more perfumes smelled like cola! I will tell you iris cedrat lost the fizz after not too long, but gets close to infusion d’iris which is no bad thing!

SOTD is Byredo “Pulp”. Yeah, y’all thought you could hyperventilate about this for the best part of my time here and not have me try it?

    Top: bergamot, cardamon and black currant;
    Mid: fig, red apple and tiare flower;
Base: cedar, praline and peach blossom.

I don’t know, trying this sample this may be analogous to me arriving in Las Vegas for a day (LV being so not my natural habitat). I’m enjoying the experience, but I won’t be rushing back.

A very busy end to the week:
    – last night there was a reunion of a programme team I worked with from 2011 to 2015. It was great to see so many old colleagues, and yet somehow outside the context of the old programme I didn’t have a lot to talk about. SOTE was BeauFort London “Coeur de Noir” which was fabulous with a bit of Summer heat behind it.

    Top: rum, ginger and ink;
    Mid: paper, leather and vanilla;
Base: cedar, tobacco and birch tar.

Then I got home and listened to the General Election coverage during the night, drifting in and out of sleep to the sound of declarations and analysis. Woke up more convinced than ever that the scriptwriters for the show we call Life have accidentally mixed their pages up with an Italian Comic Opera.

Today TOMK and I – well, we kind of got married. Calm down, it was no big deal! :^) We just upgraded our 2006 Civil Partnership to a full Civil Marriage, which wasn’t available to same sex couples in 2006. And apologies to anyone who experienced the end of the world at 14:00 BST.

Afterwards we went for lunch and came home. We did the whole ceremony and party (and to be honest, meaningful) bit 11 years ago and today’s event had all the emotional impact of paying an electricity bill over the bank counter. Although, I’ll probably file away in my memory that I did it wearing Pulp. ;^)

Thanks hajusuuri. If I’m honest, it’s not a bid deal for our day-to-day life but could be important if we move to another country with same-sex marriage. That is, our marriage certificate would be understood where a civil partnership certificate might not. Sadly, there are still many countries that wouldn’t recognise either.

I am wearing Galop today…which I would call a fruity rose with some leather to boot.

Still not sure if I like it entirely. ;) At times I think the quince displeases me and other times I catch myself thinking, “what is that great smell?”

Ditto. I have the same disparate reaction to Galop. I either love it or dislike it intensely– most days it’s both. And I sort of crave it. That odd combination of reactions almost always ends up with it jumling into my top 10 list, as I wrestle with trying to figure it out for a year and ultimately wind up with a complicated loving finale.

I had planned all week to wear Huitieme Art Poudre de Riz today (which despite the name, is fruity.) But I got distracted on the way and wanted to compare Chanel Beige edp to edt. It’s one I thought might actually improve with reformulation, and IMHO, it has. It’s fuller, rounder, richer and 3 hrs in, still going strong. (To my nose, the structure has changed, but smell-wise it hasn’t.)

Come to think of it, Beige will actually transition really well to Poudre de Riz, so I’ll wear it later today…

Also – PSA: the Chanel counter at the downtown Seattle Nordstrom store still has 3 Personal Chanel Counters available, if you regretted not buying one before they sold out. (I saw it in person and it’s adorable!) I have the Chanel Exclusifs rep’s phone number if anyone wants it (though I’m sure it’s not necessary – a call to the store ought to get you to her eventually.)

I actually hadn’t sniffed it until I received it in one of the swapmeets. I would describe it as “peonies + berries”. That is, that’s what comes across most, although there’s more notes like geranium, peach, amber. It’s just sweet enough and just tart enough, imho.

All you perfumistas in Arielle Shoshana smell wonderful! Alas, I was too greedy and used up my sample before today’s Fruity Friday, but I’m excited to have a FB starting its journey to me tomorrow, after the official launch party (best wishes, Arielle!).

In keeping with the theme, I’m wearing Olivine Atelier’s Gigi, a papaya delight that also includes bergamot, ylang, sandalwood, green tea, vanilla, and just enough gardenia to make it a lovely, instead of oppressive (I can rarely take gardenia on me). This one is my second favorite from the line, after Amongst the Waves, and is always great for hot, hot days like today.

I bave never smelled this one. The notes intrigue me! we seem to have a bumper crop of papayas in the past few months. My Wegmans stocks them and while they are not ripe on purchase, we’ e taken to ripening them inside an oven (not turned on) and they come out sweet and juicy. Also, if it is not sweet, you can leave it out in the open during the day and it will actually get sweeter!

I think I’ve done a 180 on Gigi. It was my least favorite of the few Olivine samples I got. Still not sure I love the fruity opening but it turns into a lovely vanillic skin musk that isn’t too sweet or foody and quite addictive! Forgot about that one this morning

Wearing woodcut as I am trying to match my perfume to Waterdragon’s travels. Really like it. A real woodstack smell with a hint of chainsaw ( but that might be a result of my weird nise). Decided to stop being sick as of today…a week is long enough.
Now…here’s a problem. The local department store has decided to stop stocking Hermes so everything is half price. The selection is pretty minimal anyway – definitely not a full range – but half price Kelly Caleche ( EDP in 100ml. EDT in 50ml ), Jardins/ monsoon, nile and rooftop, Voyage, Jours/ Gardenia . Not sure what to do as I don’t want 100ml bottles but I am tempted but it’s still $$$ that could go elsewhere, towards more exciting but less beautiful purchases. Or socks and underwear.

Kanuka, you need to find perfume friends to split with. In any case, hard to pass up bargains like these.

Half-price anything makes me happy. You can hold out until there’s a larger discount but then your selection would be even more limited. Or you could ask yourself would you pay the half-off amount for half the volume and if your answer is yes, buy it. because it effectively means you like/love it enough to pay full price

Bargains can be so hard to pass up, can’t they? You can always split or engage in any of the alternate-use methods (linen spray, scenting laundry in the dryer, etc.). I personally would figure out if there were one or two that, later on, I would genuinely regret not snapping up.

I’ve missed a few days this week, so let me mention here the wonderful Un Jardin Sur le Nil (mango!), Pdn Eau Exotique (mango again), Ava Luxe Johri (fig) and today’s SOTD – Diorella (melon, which I normally hate, and peach-lovely!).

I’m not keeping up these days, but will manage to join the fruity fun with Plum today.

You smell fabulous! I have to admit that I can’t for the life of me get my nose/brain to detect any peach (based on the EDP, anyway). But boy do I love Mitsy.????

    Happy Fruity Friday!
I’m in Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange. Practically the only citrus I can do. Lovely juicy, tart but not schreeching.

SOTD = AG Ninfeo Mio EdT. Yes, figs are fruit!! This also might work for oddball week, too. It is great stuff in any case.

I immediately thought of Histoires de Parfums 1804 (George Sand), but I wore that one the last time. And as I ended up spending most of the afternoon in the hospital radiology department (routine tests, at least routine for me), I thought I’d better go with something a little quieter, anyway. So: M. Micallef Ananda. On me, sour plum, underlaid by some non-descript, slightly soapy florals and white musk. I see that Fragrantica has “sweet” listed first, though, so it must be one of those perfumes where my natural bitterness counteracts all the sweetness. I like it better on a hot day. I got one of the cute 30ml bottles in my Micallef advent calendar.

Ananda is long gone, though, and I’m currently sporting Guerlain L’Heure Bleue from the Freebiemeet (thank you, Wendysue!) No fruit to speak of, but very lovely.
