Friday scent of the day 4/28

Posted by Robin on 28 April 2017 322 Comments

Gucci Garden collection, garment detail

Happy Gucci or Givenchy Friday! Our community project for today: pick one and make your case, or wear one of each.

What brand and fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I do not have any big opinion on Gucci vs Givenchy — neither one is a favorite fragrance brand. My plan for today was to wear Givenchy Organza Indecence on one arm and original Gucci Homme on the other. But I am not feeling at all well (I started treatment for Lyme disease yesterday) and the very idea makes me feel a little queasy. I am commando but looking forward to seeing what everyone else picked.

Reminder: on 5/5 we're doing May-bee Baby Friday... wear a honey fragrance or one that contains a honey note. Suggested by happy888cat.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: top image is detail from a garment in the Gucci Garden capsule collection, 2016.

Oh dear…I hope you feel better soon, Robin :(

I came home yesterday from work to be greeted by a huge birthday package from my dearest friend. Inside were at least 300 samples, decants and minis …I was stunned to say the least and boy did that make my day!

So today I am wearing one of the minis that happens to be one of her favorites, Silences….gorgeous!

I may not be participating in too many of the community projects as I am eager to try out all of my new samples!

The extraordinary kindness and generosity of human beings never ceases to amaze me.

    peace love light
    xxoo

    and happy Friday!!!!

    Very best wishes, Robin!

The only Gucci or Givenchy I own is Givenchy Organza Indecence, so that would be my vote… but as I am looking at a high of 88 with 97% humidity today (!!), I am not wearing it, but rather Huitieme Poudre de Riz.

I hope hat treatment will help you soon, Robin. Good to see that you are at least well enough to post.
I do not have a definite opinion on Givenchy and Gucci either. I used to have a set of Givenchy minis, and that’s how I discovered some of their scents (including Organza and Amarige Mariage I still like and use). But then I discovered more and more perfume houses…
As for Gucci, somehow I do not know this house that well (although I tried several of its scents with mixed results).
So today I am sampling the only Gucci I currently have – L’Arte di Gucci EDT. I first heard about this scent here, in the comments. Unfortunately I do not remember that person’s name, but whoever you are, thank you for drawing my attention to this perfume!
This is a gorgeous and sophisticated fragrance. Definitely old school and definitely dominated by rose. Not a fresh rose from the garden, but a rose scent of lipstick, powder etc. And it’s lovely. I only have a small sample of EDT, but I have already ordered a mini EDP.

Yay for L’Arte… and you’ve reminded me that I forgot this is the ONLY Gucci fragrance I have! I only wear it in the fall and winter, so it just fell off my radar. It is a real beauty for sure!

Nothing yet, but I’m always game for Gucci Rush. Thanks for the excuse to wear it! (Not that I needed one.)

Lyme disease?!?! I’m so sorry, Robin. I grew up in northern Michigan where I saw many vacationers, hunters, etc. get bitten by ticks and end up at the hospital. Not only did it look unfun, the treatment can wipe you out as much as the disease. I hope you get some rest.

I forgot to add: I think Givenchy has a steadier line of nice fragrances, where Gucci is subpar with a rockstar or two in its collection. Regardless, I don’t have strong feelings for either house. I only own Rush from Gucci and the one Givenchy I have is a mini that came with a Sephora set. I don’t even know the name off the top of my head.

Robin, I hope you feel better very soon!

I would like to thanks each one of you, for your beautiful and supporting messages on my father’s passing. They were all very comforting and have lifted my spirits greatly. Elisa P. lots of hugs and love. Rappleyea and CM8, every time I read the quote by Rossiter Worthington Raymond and listen to the song Give Me Love by George Harrison, I find great peace in my heart and soul. Adanst and Meredifay you were such wonderful perfume fairies and really touched my heart very deeply. You are a great family and I feel very honored to be part of this caring and wonderful community. Thank you!

SOTD Gucci Envy. Spring in a bottle and one of my favorites green florals.

Not having any Gucci or Givenchy handy and not wanting something complicated today, I’m sampling Jo Malone Basil & Neroli and actually really enjoying it. It has that nice sweet/savory element that I like in Blackberry & Bay, too. I can see this being a summer no-brainer!

When I tried B&N at Nordstrom, I told the SA I wanted to walk around with it and see how it dried down. I made it about 30 steps away before I turned around and bought a bottle. I have a little anger/confusion thing going on with JM releasing their most summery scents in September, but I am excited to wear it this summer too. It’s easy but interesting.

Robin, I’m awfully sorry to know that you’re dealing with Lyme Disease! Hope you recover quickly!!! Sending you lots of virtual tea and sympathy…

I’m not participating in the project this week, as I’m on my own quest to use up perfume samples. I bought teensy samples of Caron pure perfumes years ago; they’ve evaporated a good bit, sadly, so really need to go. This week I’ve finished off Alpona, Or et Noir, and Pois de Senteur. I remember really liking Or, but I think the sample had gone off; Alpona was still lovely; and Pois — well, maybe I’m not a huge fan of sweet pea perfumes in general.

I have only two Givenchys and zero Guccis, so we know who wins. I’m wearing Very Irresistible for Men, which is extraordinarily good, so presumably that’s why they discontinued it. (You can still buy a bottle for a couple hundred dollars, I see.) It’s the most unusual gourmand — hazelnut coffee and cedar: I have a mini which is almost empty and I’ll be sorry to see it gone.

It will be too warm here for Organza Indecence, my only Givenchy. I’m in L’Arte di Gucci. In my head I’m swanning around like Joan Collins, ca. the Dynasty Years.

Robin, so sorry you are not feeling well. Hopefully the treatment will kick in and have you feeling better soon. Rest, hydrate and rest!

I have neither Gucci or Givenchy on hand, so I fail this project???? Decided to fail in style though so I’m sampling No 19 for the first time today. Wow. Now I see what all the fuss is about. I have the EDT, and not sure if that is the “preferred” version…?

No. 19 is pretty awesome in whatever version.

If I had to rank the concentrations for my personal preference, it would go like this:
      Vintage (before 2005, maybe?) EdT
      EdP of any age
      Current EdT
      Parfum

But that’s personal preference. I like the tiny bit of leather in the old stuff, and I would also say that the galbanum is really beautiful in the older EdT. I think the current EdT is comparatively thin. The EdP is rosier and perhaps more conventionally pretty. The parfum I find very dry and irisy-vetivery, which is not my thing but a lot of perfumistas love it for that reason.

All this is to say that No. 19 is a force to be reckoned with, and I’m glad you’re reckoning. :)

Ooh, thank you for the comparisons! (Taking notes). Isn’t it sad that most perfumes are better in the vintage form? I’m trying not to fall down the vintage rabbit hole for scents that are new to me though. It sounds like this current version may be just the right fit for me since I am a No 19 “newbie.”

I chose Gucci EDP – the brown juice in the clear glass bottle that someone recently mentioned might make a good bludgeoning tool. I have two FBs – one small 30ml bottle that I can actually lift and use, and a square, squat, extremely heavy and unlift-able one that has to be set on a sturdy shelf to be sprayed. Love it! Happy Friday, everyone!

Passiflora are so lovely in so many ways. I love the twining tendrils almost as much as the flowers and the fruits smell and taste wonderful. Where I live in the frozen north they have to be grown in pots to amount to much and they can get just enormous. The last one I grew threatened to take over the room it was in so I ended up giving it away to a friend who admired it. I think I will have to try another one soon, a red one this time I think.

I attribute it to liking to hang out in the kinds of places frequented by deer. We’re surrounded by about 1000 acres of wooded conservation land filled with deer, foxes, porcupines, occasional bobcats and weasels, squirrels, all kinds of birds, frogs, you name it. Ticks just come with the territory.

I got bit by a tick last year, but saw it immediately and am OK. But I am so paranoid….I hope you get well and over it! It is a hard treatment.

I have no Gucci scents (but I do love Envy), and I have some Givenchy scents, but they are all heavier orientals – the Organza, Organza Indecence, Organza Jasmine Harvest 2007 (?), L’Interdit….I do have the Les Mythics GIII, but since I wore Visa the other day, I wasn’t in the mood for another green chypre. So….It is the first perfect spring day we’ve had and everything is blooming and beautiful, so I’m wearing one of my fav spring fragrances: the very long discontinued Trish McEvoy #8 Citrus Petals, which is one of the prettiest linden fragrances ever made.

Reminds me of care free times in the 90’s. Shame that they d/c this one. I wish that some houses would release some of their old scents as a limited edition, just for old times sake.

Powering through the morning on a wave of the good, bad, and the pretty–but first wanted to say to Robin that I really hope you feel better soon. My understanding is that you have a slog ahead of you. And the least of your worries should be this blog–grateful you bothered to post today–but we’d all understand if you’d rather just sleep in…

We are all thinking of you!

In my neck of the woods the good is Rahele, which I have all but drained (another decant is wending its way to me shortly courtesy of Clarissa!), the bad is that yesterday we got sobering test results regarding my younger son. NOT cancer (always good to clarify that first) but he has an adrenal condition that is the result of his cancer treatment that means he is not producing enough cortisol. So he can go into shock very easily if he gets sick or injured–so it is another life change for us. The pretty? Two. Yes two foxes were prancing around our back yard last night and around the front of the house as well. In the front they were chasing insects and goodness knows what else under the street lamp so we were able to watch them easily. Our very fat and beloved tabby made a beeline to get into the house–understandably. That’ll teach him the dangers of coming home late! (Or not.)

I third your lovely note to Robin, Oakland Fresca. Rest and recuperate, and let the medicine do its magic, Robin.

OF, so sorry to hear of your son’s latest health news. Great that it’s not cancer, but it sounds like a real challenge. As a mom of a boy about to turn 15, sick or injured seems to be their resting state! So sending your strength and well wishes (and scent samples if that helps).

I adore your East Bay fox sighting. I spent my first 18 years living adjacent to the Chabot regional park, and loved all my wildlife visitations. Now I’m adjacent to Griffith Park in L.A. which is almost as good, although I have yet to see a fox. A great horned owl helps me keep the rodent population at bay though.

A fox sighting is considered VERY fortuitous! The fox symbolizes good fortune, luck and opportunity. The fox is also considered a savvy trickster and clever problem solver, a provider of guidance and quick ways around big obstacles. Seeing TWO is doubly great. I’m not much of New Ager, but I’ve had enough timely animal visitations to put some faith in them. No matter what, two foxes playing under the streetlight is just spectacular.

I have only 2 Givenchy scents-Ysatis mini and Indecence so I have a dab of Ysatis on my hand for tributary participation, which for a small dab, packs an oriental punch. Someone mentioned soapy yesterday and it does smell soapy to me.
My full-on SOTD is Rodin Olio Lusso since it’s warm enough today to not have it’s goodness buried under clothing.
I live in a very small building and while checking the pile of packages in the entry, saw someone got an order from Luckyscent. This same person previously got a package from a perfume supply company. I really want to know who this person is and whether it’s the person who snagged all the samples and products I put in the entry last year with a “take me!” sign! The prospect that one-of-us might live in my building makes me happy ????

I went through a bottle of Ysatis years ago (and then went back to Opium), and I don’t remember finding it soapy–just more floral than I really liked at the time. I wonder if it’s changed much.

Perfume is a daily delight not dependent on attire. :)

I was once reading a style blog (for tips, obv!) and ran across a post where the author — who posted pics and a written description of her outfit and her makeup every. single. day — said that she only owned one perfume because it took too much time to choose what perfume to wear.

!!! Oh yes. I guess she enjoyed picking the clothes and the makeup and taking pictures of them, but in order to do it, she couldn’t waste time on picking a perfume. I sound like I’m scoffing at her, but really I was just thinking that I am perfectly happy in variations of the same outfit every day and don’t have time to choose something stylish to wear, but I’ll dither over SOTD for five minutes.

You pick your own obsessions, I suppose.

Oh yah. Y’know, one of the things I like best about a perfume obsession is that perfume goes with any outfit. Especially now that I work from home most of the time, I am not going to be bothered with dressing up, and most of my poor jewelry goes neglected (funny, I miss wearing fancy jewelry more than I miss wearing ‘work’ clothes). But I can always put on perfume.

X seems to have a bit more depth and complexity as it dries down, where I feel that Rush is more linear. X lasts longer on my skin and I get more jasmine from it than Rush. And then X has that strong milkiness which I really love. However, to the non-perfume enthusiast I’m not sure there would be a difference in the slightest haha. I enjoy wearing both.

Happy Friday everyone! Organza Indecence is the only Givenchy I own (and no Gucci at all), but it is too warm here in San Diego for that (as it is most of the time, which is why my bottle is still mostly full!). I don’t believe I’ve ever owned any Gucci, but did have a bottle of Givenchy Fleur d’Interdit back when I was in college. It was a fruity floral, pretty forgettable but I enjoyed it at the time. Just spritzed on some Eclat d’Arpege, another fruity floral!

Happy Friday, all! I don’t have any Gucci or Givenchy in my collection, so I’m in Galop again today (half points since it starts with “G”?). It’s funny — I usually match my perfume of the day to my mood, emotional needs, and the weather, and today’s choice is no exception, but Galop may be my one fragrance that I feel I need to match my clothes to. I only have two Galop-worthy tops — both are floral, and both are sumptuously feminine.

As for Gucci, I still have bottle of Gucci I and Gucci II. However, today I completely forgot about Friday’s fragrance and sprayed myself with Ex Nihilo’s Musc Infini…it’s expensive but I love it.

An oldie…came out in 2007 and has been discontinued for a while. I had a sample several years ago and found a bottle on eBay.

Robin, very best wishes for a complete recovery – Lyme is slime. Used to have GIV L’Interdit about 20-odd years ago and I have the GU Rush–plastic fun! I was intrigued by GIV Demoiselle but never got to own any. A puzzle: In 1983, Her Maj (aka my mother) brought back a tiny atomizer of 10 mL of Gucci parfum (not EDP) from California for me; what’s left of the juice is brownish but it still packs a punch like nobody’s business. I wish I knew enough about scent so that I could describe it to you… rest assured, it is no fruity floral Glade; I smell some powder up front, some bitter green in the background… The gold cap has a slim “belt” of Gucci red and green round the bottom rim and the GU logo in black serif font. I do not even know how to go about searching for this scent because details are so scant. Waaa. Again, I do hope you feel better soon.

There are no numbers; I believe this predates that series. The label on the underside says “Dist. by Scannon Ltd.-1/2 FL. OZ.- New York, New York 10019” (pardon the uppercase). I have no other clues, lo siento. Why is it that everyone used to try to outdo each other making memorable scents and now it’s the other way around? Money? IFRA? I’d pull my hair out if it wasn’t already looking like a Hagrid hair day for me.

Sometimes if you go on google images with a search like “gucci vintage” you will recognise your bottle and then will find the name that way by tapping on the picture. Same if you go on ebay and search “vintage gucci 1980s” or something like that.

Hi, dramalydia I believe that is the original 1983 Eau de Gucci. You can see the belt detail in the images with this blog post:

      https://cleopatrasboudoir.blogspot.com/2014/11/eau-de-gucci-c1982.html

As you can see, the 1990s version lacks the belt.

I wore the concentree (shown in the left-most photo) earlier this week and commented that it reminds me of VC&A First. Mine hasn’t darkened, and it is still definitely still going strong after three decades. :)

You could also try searching ebay for Eau de Gucci and vintage Gucci to see if you find a bottle that matches yours precisely, or if they used the belt on anything else.

Thank you, nozknoz, I appreciate the feedback. Believe it or not, this is not it – this is just straight perfume (parfum), not an eau nor an EDP nor an EDT. If I had a cellphone, I would take a photo and post the silly thing. Re First, this one is deeper and funkier. But I do so love First. Thank you again!

Antibiotics are rarely a stomach’s best friend. I hope you won’t have to take them for long.

I gave away my only Gucci a few months ago, and have 2 samples of Givenchy’s fragrances. So today I’m wearing Givenchy Vetyver which is a simply gorgeous elegant vetiver rendition that I would absolutely add to my collection if I didn’t own far too many already. But my sample is nearly gone, and I will miss wearing it.

I looked up the CDC guidelines wondering if they were a lot different from ours. 10-21 days, that is long. Ticks are such a nuisance. When I still had my dog, I never got any. I assume they’ rather bit her than me.

I just hope the queasiness will go away soon! I hate feeling like that.

There is so much disagreement about how long you should do! It is maddening. Plus, they no longer test for Lyme around here, at least not in the early stages, which kind of makes sense since the tests are not fantastic, plus so many ticks are cross-infected that knowing whether or not you have Lyme is not necessarily helpful.

Since I know I had an engorged tick that was almost certainly on my person more than 48 hours, and since I already had symptoms, I am doing 28 days, which is longer than some think you should do and less than others think.

I don’t have strong feelings on the subject of Gucci vs. Givenchy, so I went with which of my choices seemed like the best option for today: Gucci by Gucci edp. It has a lovely big fruity opening (guava, apparently), and then dries down to a quiet, somewhat boring musk. It works in hot weather and close quarters (after the opening settles down, anyway), so it will be a good choice for a hot day at a theme park. (WTH autocorrect moment: I hit the u instead of y in day, and it autocorrected to “dauphin.” Really?)

Hope your treatment goes well, Robin. Lynn Disease is a sneaky thing.

I have no Gucci or Givenchy, and I’ve never even tried anything by either house. I did a “G” week by wearing scents by Olivia Giacobetti Monday-Thursday. Today I was planning to wear Philosykos, but I just had to wear Beige, so Beige it is. At least there’s a g in the name?

    Have a great Friday everyone!

Big NO to both Gucci and Givenchy for me forever. Instead, testing Tom Ford’s Vert de Fleur today for the fourth time, wishing for a different outcome. It is mind-blowingly good for the first hour and then it drops off to a fake-y, bland, woody nothing.

Since I came of perfume age in the late 70’s/early 80’s, I have a thing for anything that reminds me of the Dioressence of that era. Arquiste Ella and TF Vert de Fleur both do that beautifully, but only for one hour each. So disappointing, and too pricey to have to re-spray every hour.

Robin, I hope the antibiotics help you feel better soon.

I have 2 Givenchy frags and no Gucci, so today is the Amarige Harvest Mimosa I was planning on wearing yesterday before I was no rudely sidetracked by Salome. I really love this fragrance. My other choice was Organza Indecence but as I’ll be grubbing around in the yard today, neither organza nor indecence seemed appropriate.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a foaming face wash for dry-ish skin? I like the foamy part because it’s fun. I’ve been using Clinique foaming sonic but it’s not very moisturizing.

The Omorovicza Cleansing Foam is luxurious and probably my favorite. But it is EXPENSIVE (ridiculously so)! More affordable and also really nice is Korres Greek Yoghurt Foaming Cream Cleanser and Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser. Kate Somerville Gentle Daily Wash is also lovely although I don’t know how much the KS foams up, it’s a lovely gel consistency. Also, NEOGEN Green Tea Real Fresh Foam Cleanser is pretty good.

I have two favorite face washes that won’t break the bank
Not sure what part of the world you are living in but Trader Joes (which is a grocery store here in the USA) makes a great face wash called Nourish.

Tried and True my favorite is the good old fashion eggwhite soap that comes in the little blue box. I also use it on the rest of my body. I suffer from KP on the backs of my arms and tops of my thighs and this soap helps, without me using any of my other treatments. Has a light scent

I got a travel size of Origins Checks & Balances Frothy Face Wash. It has a really interesting texture and is mid-range in price. Website says it is “for all face types” and it isn’t drying to my relatively normal skin.
They have it at Sephora (or Origins counters of course) and they make a small size if you want to try it out!.

Good luck with the Lyme disease treatment!

SOTD for me was Teo Cabanel “Early Roses”.

    Top: jasmine, water notes, rose;
    Mid: pink pepper, jasmine, rose;
    Base: musk, amber, woody notes.

It’s a nice rose, fresh without being exactly green.

Wed and Thu I was too busy to comment. Wed was ELdO “Vierges et Toreros”, which I’ll have to re-test. Thu was L’Artisan “Mure et Musc Extreme” – that was fun, although not so much that I’ll be rushing to repeat it.

Just back home after a flight that was delayed 2 hours, so I have even less time for paperwork before we fly out to Malaga tomorrow. (I know, I know: first world problems) :^)

Finally made it to NST! Late today…..

No Gucci or Givenchy today…not many of their scents (that I’ve tried, anyway) appeal to me, especially at work.

I was scentless today because of seasonal allergies/headache, but my sweatshirt is still wafting Aromatics in White, and it’s still gorgeous! Just the perfect amount of scent on a day when I really didn’t plan on wearing any….

    HAPPY FRIDAY! :)

I got nothin’ on the Givenchy / Gucci front, other than the unfortunate Gucci sample from a few weeks ago.

I kinda forgot scent today, but I must say I was feeling very ladylike last night in Misia. It really does smell like the old-fashioned face powder my mom had. Love it. I think I’m entering a violet phase….

I don’t have strong feelings on Gucci vs. Givenchy because I don’t have much from either of them. I only have one full bottle between the two, that being Gucci Rush, but I didn’t feel like wearing it. So today I’m wearing a little bit of vintage Givenchy III from a little mini that I got in an antique shop. It’s mostly a mossy skin scent at this point, but it is a lovely green.

I have a soft spot for Givenchy because of Ysatis. I received it as a gift when I was about eighteen, and to me it was magical!. Organza also became a favorite. However, over the years I have leaned towards Gucci for recent offering’s. Accenti, Rush, Gucci, Guilty Black, ENVY! All have been loved by me. I had a busy day and forgot about the challenge, so sotd was Muse. A new love of mine.

Perfect scent to accompany a visit to National Trust’s Scotney castle, lots of green and floral smells wafting around, Givenchy 111 complimented the atmosphere beautifully.

I’m just home after a few days up in Central Otago. In autumn there is a very reduced landscape colour palette: elephant hide grey hillsides, vivid red rose hips, yellow poplars the colour of golden delicious apples, and the deep green of the Clutha river. Such a beautiful, quiet place. Monsieur Li today.

I kept waffling between trying a Givenchy sample or a Gucci sample for today’s project. The weather decided for me: SOTD = Gucci No. 3 EdP. It’s a floral chypre in the grand 80’s style, but somehow it also works in warm muggies.

Glad you are getting prompt treatment for that evil Lyme disease, Robin! I hope the yucky feeling subsides very soon.

Since I have nothing from either Gucci or Givenchy (and have a shocking lack of history with both), I had intended to observe the letter of the law by wearing something from another house starting with G — perhaps Goutal. Alas, that intention slipped my mind when I went to select my SOTD, and today’s summery weather inspired me to choose JM Basil & Neroli. I bought a small bottle of this one for myself when I was buying a large one for my mom last Christmas. I sure hope she’s enjoying it as much as I am!

It’s a warm day here, so Gucci Rush for me. I think Rush a fantastic fragrance. Nonetheless, I wonder if it would have been such a hit without the perfection of the name, packaging, timing, and publicity.

Later I may wear my Givenchy Harvest 2007 Organza Jasmine, one of my favorite bedtime jasmines.

Scrolling through the brand lists on Fragrantic, I am astonished by the number of Givenchy fragrance and flankers. I wonder if there is a Givenchy fanatic somewhere who has smelled all of them. I doubt that anyone at Givenchy has. ;)

Looking at the Gucci list, which is long enough, I can see that I’ve smelled very few of them, even missing some well-regarded ones. It wears me out just thinking about how many fragrances there are in these two brands, most of them are entirely superfluous, no doubt.

    sota = Ysatis de Givenchy

From an old old old manufacturer sample, it’s the only scent from Givenchy I have, and I’m delighted to wear it. Everything-but-the-kitchen-sink style opulence is a treat from time to time. Ysatis reminds me of Rochas Femme, but it’s not quite so forward.

I thought I had at least one Gucci sample somewhere but couldn’t find anything. Perhaps I used it up. Oh well, searching gave me a nice excuse to toss the stash and see what’s lurking in the sample pile. I found a vial of Prada by Prada that I don’t remember, so perhaps later today . . .

Happy weekend, everyone. Naps and perfume for all!

Amarige Harvest Mimosa for me today. I like this perfume but do not wear too often. Mimosa (or at least its believable chemical representation) is clearly there. Any development – not there: it stays practically unchanged for the duration of its (long) life on my skin. I would not have bought it again today but I do not regret hunting down this LE bottle years ago.

    What a (perfumed) day!

SOTD = Gucci Guilty Absolute Pour Homme

Nice enough but perhaps a little too masculine for me. This would be the cheaper equivalent of Le Labo Cuir 28. I decided to layer it with my universal layerer to counteract butch leather or uber birch tar — Le Labo Vanille 44. And all was right with the world.

I had a late afternoon meeting at a downtown location. Lo and.behold, i was able to easily go from the office to Twisted Lily for start of Sniffapalooza.

This time around, I did not see anyone I know personally so I was able to maximize my eating, drinking and sniffing time. I ended up with a 100 mL bottle of Le Galion Sortilege which to me smells like a slightly brighter version of Chanel No. 22. One of the women said it smells like Joy. Since I have no idea what Joy smells like, I couldn’t agree or disagree. Does any here think that No.22 and Joy smell similar?

I also bought a bar of Tauer Majestic Tuberose. Of course seeing the Tauer stuff reminded me that I have the Mandarin Amber Soap and some perfume oil samples that have not yet arrived…will need to get a status on that stat!

As for samples, I got Gallivant Brooklyn, Istanbul and London. The bottles are a cute 30 mLs for a not so cute price ($95). I also don’t recall ever seeing CB I Hate Perfume testers but they were there today. I got a sample of Burning Leaves.

Despite not deliberately trying any perfume on skin, I must have reeked havoc as someone who sat next to me got up immediately to sit at a less desireable seat.

Tomorrow is another Sniffapalooza Day. I am looking forward to catching up with WendySue and hearing what Chandler Burr says about his ELDO perfume colloboration. Insmelled this at Twisted Lily but did not feel compelled to ask for a sample.

I will report back on Sniffapalooza over the weekend!

By the way, if anyone is interested in a split of Le Galion Sortilege, please email me. It will be about $20 for 10mLs.

Joy and No. 22 have a similar density and floral weightiness, but that’s about it for any similarity for me.

Once I woke up in the night because the dab of No. 22 I wore that evening had invaded my dreams. It is much heavier on the aldehydes and smells a bit like cola to me. Joy is flowers flowers flowers then dirty bits and more flowers. I do enjoy them both but probably prefer Joy over No. 22.

lOOking forward to your next Sniffa field report. :) And lol to that person who moved to another seat.

In my recollection of Joy that I wore many many many years ago, I don’t remember a similarity to 22.

Sniffapalooza is this weekend? Can’t wait to hear/read about all of your reports :)

I will be in the big Apple today meeting up with my childhood friend of 49 years. We will most likely be eating (my favorite activity) and walking up Madison Ave and stopping into the places mentioned by lovestosmellgood and Elisa P. Through them I know now that there are many sniffing places to visit :)
