A quick PSA: our Régime des Fleurs contest is still open.
It's take it down a notch Friday! Our community project for today: wear a perfume that has a bad reputation because people wore way too much of it back in the day. Go ahead and wear it lightly, or go loud and proud, you'll get points either way. Thanks to Bear for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in Yves Saint Laurent Paris. I went with the traditional 1980s loud and proud application, but I'm not going anywhere this morning so perhaps I have not really lived up to the 'proud' part. Still, I smell like the color of that bag, and you can smell me two rooms away.
Reminder: on 1/13, wear a perfume by Anne Flipo, if you have one.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the exact Saint Laurent Sac du Jour bag shown above might no longer be available, but you can still get the bag in other, calmer, colors. Bergdorf Goodman currently has it in a variety of colors, $1990 - $2890.
Opium Orchidee de Chine, one spritz, and I will probably wash my arms a half dozen times before I need to be at work at 4pm….
Good luck with the removal 😉
Drakkar Noir over a base of Eden Botanical Dark Patchouli diluted in a carrier oil and spread all over my body…loud and proud in a combo of 80s and 60s fragrances (and a thank you to Holly for inspiring the latter with her wearing of Nag Champa this week)
to quote bear, Carpe Diem and happy Friday, y’all!!!!
OMG! 🙂
Wow!
Holy cow.
Luckily I don’t share my office with anyone 🙂
and hey, I am “seizing the day” !!!
Hope you are burning incense and brewing triple strength coffee in there.
I am patiently waiting for Bear to send some my way:)
the coffee that is…the incense I only burn at home….
Wow- I can smell you from over here (in PDX!)
Dang! That is impressive!
I am shocked!
Whoa. That’s commitment to the project.
Fabulous! ????
Head blown!
Poison, for sure, and for good measure it’s vintage esprit de parfum (I have a 5-mL mini in almost perfect condition). It’s a genius composition but it got a bad name because it completely takes over your life: it’s kind of room-filling and you can’t eat with it on because that’s all anybody can taste/smell. So good, though.
You smell gorgeous! It’s potent stuff though, and has one of the best reviews in The Guide, comparing it to an Abrams tank.
Poison, for sure! You smell fabulous!! This was my bff/roomie’s back in the day, and mine was Obesession. We were a force to be reckoned with.????
Scent twins! I also have a 5mL vintage mini and I am hoarding it. It’s about half way gone.
When I put it on today (not too strongly, just a few dabs) I liked it but did not love it. Now a few hours later, I’m in love again. Makes me think the top notes are starting to go. Maybe I should use it before it turns. But then I wouldn’t have it any more…
You smell fabulous!
I’m wearing the exact same 🙂
Poison was my first bit perfume love. Great, great stuff.
You got your Mother in a whirl, she’s not sure if…………….
Post workout on this sunny snow-covered morning: shower gel, body cream, and generous spraySSSSS of Calvin Klein Obsession for Women EDP.
Labdanum, coriander, and orange blossoms radiating off my skin. 😀
Listening to DIAMOND DOGS for my ongoing tribute to David Bowie R.I.P.
Triple strength coffee and oatmeal for breakfast.
Life is good.
Carpe Diem.
Thanks for using my suggestion, Robin. 😀
Wow! my respects to you :D. You smell really amazing!
I have enjoyed being loud and proud these last few days. Thanks for the suggestion and enjoy your oatmeal and hopefully another drink on the beach
You smell great. Thanks for the big energy boost.
*deep whiff* You smell terrific!
You Rebel, Rebel!
HA!
Yes! Twins! This was definitely “my” scent back in the day and I still have one of those minis of the squatty little bottle that they don’t make anymore. The juice is about 2-3 times darker than the stuff they’re brewing these days.
Bear, we smell incredible!!
We do !
And I have the squatty parfum in addition to the EDP. Fantastic!
My missing in action mini looks like a nipple.
Excellent choices and advice, Bear! I acquired a vintage Obsession parfum recently; great bottle and very subtle.
That’s my back in the day scent.. loved it. Smelling good!
Awesome, Bear! You smell fantastic. Obsession is my SOTD too, I’ve always liked it but my best friend wore it back in the day so I didn’t. I think a couple sprays smells great in the winter, it can really stand up to the cold weather, or anything really – my whole house smells like it 🙂
Twin! You smell great. Thanks for the suggestion for today’s project–it’s a fun one!
Wearing the super potent Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant. I had two dabs behind my ears and I am flying very high. I will be all day in the sky… and not even my moody boss will make me land 😀
You know, I actually miss those days when people wore Jungle L’Elephant! Yes, it was everywhere for a while, but it was and til is – wonderful.
I wore jungle the other day, it’s so lovely and cosy in cold weather.
You smell wonderful, I love Jungle L’elephant. Perfect for a cold day.
Hello, scent twin!
Today is a melancholy day for me, the anniversary of one of my parents passing.
I am taking is down a notch, and cheating a bit. A few puffs of Shalimar body powder, and a dab of Shalimar Souffle. I know it doesn’t get a lot of love here but I find it easy to wear, and its comforting on a day like today.
Cuppa is a green tea, some almond milk and honey. I made eggs for my babies, the ones we get from the greenmarket are very good, and this time the carton had some feathers inside! Good grief!
Take care everyone!
Peace lovestosmellgood.
I hope the happy memories outweigh the sadness for you today.
🙂
You smell lovely. May your joy with the little ones rekindle those warm memories of your beloved parent.
I hope you find comfort in your memories and your Shalimar today. Hugs to you.
Double hugs , lovestosmellgood 🙂
Thanks all!
The sun is out, which lifts my spirits
Adding more hugs — glad you found the fragrance that fits.
Big hug.
Sending you warm thoughts and hugs.
*hugs* You do smell lovely, and I am sure the babies would be interested in the feathers.
Scent twins! Be gentle with yourself today.
What a tough day for you, these anniversaries are so hard. Fwiw, Shalimar Souffle is probably my favorite version that I’ve tried. It is very easy to wear. Take care.
Feathers = Fiber????
I am sorry for your loss.
Sending you warm hugs — I know how melancholy these anniversaries are. May you find comfort in happy memories today and always.
Thanks all! The babies are a good distraction and so is all the Shalimar!
Thinking of you and sending hugs your way. You smell lovely.
What sistine said – hugs
I hope that the happy memories have outweighed the sad today, and that Shalimar is giving u comforting strength.
oh, big hug.. and wishing you peace
More hugs for you today.
I also enjoy Shalimar Soufle.
Hugs to you, may their memory be a blessing.
Thanks everyone. Feeling the love
Take care today <3
Eggs in France frequently have feathers stuck to the outside!
You smell lovely. Hugs and wishes for the melancholy to lift for the rest of your day.
Those kinds of anniversaries can be difficult. Hugs, and treat yourself gently today.
Hugs to you and much love to the babies!
The obvious choice would have been YSL Paris which I used to wear with wild abandon in the late eighties and early nineties. I think I used about 5-6 sprays of EDP. But I happen to own a bottle of Trésor EDP as well, bought well over 10 years ago, so still very much like her original self, and I think Trésor is much more of a bombshell than Paris. I put on 2 modest sprays and it still feels a tad overwhelming. Gorgeous though, like being smothered by giant apricots.
Forget James and the Giant Peach, we’ve got Austenfan and the Giant Apricot. 🙂
LOL!!!
This comment made my day.
Hillarius! 😀
Hilarious!
I feel honoured 😀
Hee!
Heehee!
I agree, Tresor wins!
I completely failed to notice that you were wearing my old favourite today. You must have smelled great! And it sure packs some sillage.
Y’all would have hated me cause I would wear about 16 sprays of those two powerhouses back in the day…a daily ritual-behind each ear, front back of wrist, crook of elbows, behind knees and tops of feet and each side of the ankles…I was one of those you would NOT want to get in an elevator with!
Ironically, all my loud and proud stuff has been used up and drained many years ago…I had to find a 20 year old bottle of my person’s Drakkar hidden in the bathroom cabinet in order to participate in this project 🙂
You would have been my best friend. My poisons of choice in those days were Anaïs Anaïs and Paris.
AA was fabulous too!!!!! About 2 or so years ago Cacharel came out with an anniversary edition…wonder if it has been reformulated….
Guess what??? Just got a mini of Paris in a very generous package from one of my dearest friends when I arrived home!!!! I am going to wear it tonight 🙂
I wish you were my neighbour!
LOL! only you guys would “get’ it 🙂
and I wonder if you would be saying that if you knew that I did the same with Aromatics Elixir….
In my humble opinion one can never wear too much of truly fabulous perfumes. I adore Aromatics Elixir and will wear it in your honour tomorrow!
My mom used to wear Tresor – my grandma would always go to the Lancome counter in Macy’s and buy all of her makeup and skincare there. The SA, Pam, would always give her three little goody bags – one for her, one for mom, and one for me! I was pretty young but would still play with the makeup. Mom would get Tresor for Christmas, and my first perfume was Connexion (which I actually just ordered off eBay to rekindle the scent memory!). Mom doesn’t wear it anymore – she went through a long phase of not wearing perfume. When I got into scent a few years ago, I dragged her in with me, so she has new faves now 🙂 I smelled Tresor in Ulta the other day (hunting for a sniff of Stash) and it has such strong scent associations 🙂 I might have to get her a new bottle!
PSA re SJP Stash.
I was just at Ulta this afternoon and the gift combos of Stash were half off. So I got the combo box of 30 ml of the perfume and 30 ml of the hair/body oil that would have been reduced to $54ish, is now $27 is in total. Those $40 combo gift sets of perfume, lotion, and roller ball, were $20 at my local Ulta.
At essentially $14 for a bottle of perfume and $14 for the matching body oil, WHO COULD RESIST??
Good things happen to those who wait 🙂
Tresor was a fragrance my grandmother loved and it is such a beauty!
My mom wears Trésor and I’m afraid she always over-applies it and it can knock you over. In fact I recently bought her a small bottle of Paris trying to get her to switch and tame things down a bit. I really like Paris in fact! But I’m not sure she’s so taken with it.
Great pick, super funny image.
It really would have to be giant to be able to smother me! I’m Dutch after all.
Used to be my signature scent back in the 80s. Didn’t realize it was such a fruit bomb but it really is.
Powdery apricots, in a good way.
I rebelled from community project today. Sotd is Puredistance M.
You smell very good, M is a marvel.
I see what you did there, lucasai. 😉 Cheers!
Rebel
I like a rebel 🙂
You go, rebel!
You smelled fabulous!
I am wearing Jean Patou 1000 inspired by this funny post on Basenotes (by the user SenseOfTheAbsurd):
“Last time I wore 1000 to work it led to a fruitless search for a dead mouse in the walls. I just joined the search and didn’t fess up. I’d have thought that was a fairly safe office scent, but apparently somebody’s hypersensitive to indoles or something.”
Well, it has animalic notes, but a ‘dead mouse’? 🙂 Hypersensitive indeed. I cannot wear it loud and proud, because it is a tiny splash mini bottle with not much perfume left, but I dabbed those last drops finishing the bottle.
That is hilarious.
It’s a glorious sandalwood.
You smell fabulous. Poor mouse… 😉
So many fun stories today! That’s hilarious. I’d have totally gone with the flow and kept my mouth shut too 😉
????
Oh dear.
Love this!
I adore 1000, and get zero dead mouse from it. You smell fabulous!
😀
????
That person needs brain-readjustment. 1000 smells not at all like a dead mouse. I don’t even find it very animalic, just plain gorgeous.
I wish dead mice smelled that good!
????
LOL! I remember I was wearing a lot of vintage Opium the other day with friends. We went to visit a cathedral. One of them said, what is that smell, is it the candles? I just pretended to smell the candle and said, maybe…
I cannot stop laughing with all these comments! This was really a wonderful project.
That is so funny! I have to disagree with your co workers — you smell wonderful. No dead mouse.
I’ve gotten away with a lot by announcing that all I can smell is “Unscented” Tide.
Antaeus, from a “vintage” mini. Didn’t apply much, so maybe not in the true spirit of the challenge, but will be going to the gym later.
Tonight I may choose Patou Pour Homme.
TGIF! 🙂 🙂 🙂
Antaeus is a favorite of mine.
You smell fantastic, GirardEAU.
Oh, Antaeus is such a sexy beast, have fun with it today 🙂
At work so wearing Sycomore but I had a good few sprays of Teatro alla Scala last night for the project. Operatic it is.
I wore 2 drops from my mini of Krizia Teatro a la Scala recently after reading a review in The Black Narcissus.
I put on some vintage Taby bu Dana today. Is it vintage if its been kept in the closet for twenty years?
I’m not going out the door today because it’s freezing and as long as I’m inside looking out I can pretend I’m in Narnia. So I sprayed on a lot. All that civet, carnation and patchouli just for my own pleasure!
Yes, that’s the best kind of vintage!
You smell great. Enjoy Narnia!
Ooh, I forgot about Narnia. I want to join you.
Perfect!
I have Turkish delight – can I join you?
I am afraid I won’t get any points, but my nose has been aching for Ambre Narguilé all week, so today, I’m swimming in that! Seriously, I gave myself a good six sprays down my sweater this morning, and I’m still floating in a cloud of the scent. Absolutely fabulous. I have got to get myself a travel-sized bottle of this at the next splitmeet involving the Hermessences.
I’m afraid I haven’t been reading NST much lately; I’ve been so busy 🙁 My thesis defense is less than a month away! Ahhhhh! And still no postdoc offer with money. It’s back to grant-writing I go. Ugh.
You smell beautiful. Good luck with your work. Can you just concentrate on the thesis defense and deal with the rest when it’s over?
I’d rather not–I want to minimize the lag time between the end of my PhD and the beginning of my postdoc/whatever. I don’t do well sitting still! And besides, I need to pay my rent and buy perfumes.
And thank you 🙂
Rent is of minor importance but not being able to buy perfume is a major disaster. I hope something comes along pretty quickly!
At least you smell good! Good luck!
Thanks 🙂
I hope a grant comes through for you soon! I’m in a similar boat, and it really is no fun.
Thanks; good luck to you, too!
What is your field–just out of curiosity?
I am a chemist focusing on a molecular approach to nanoparticle synthesis! Know anyone who can help? 🙂
You smell amazing. Good luck with the search!
Thanks!
Good luck with your thesis defense!
Non-project SOTD: ‘Interlude Man’ by Amouage.
Some of the Amouages come close to meeting the criteria, even if they aren’t old school 🙂
True: one might not want to be too heavy-handed with Gold or Lyric, for example!
Love this one from Amouage.
You smell great although this one makes me sneeze at least 3 times upon initial application.
Probably my favourite perfume of all! :^)
I’m not quite in the project today, wearing Tubereuse Criminelle. It never quite got a bad name because it never has been so mainstream as that. But no less loud and proud for that.
You smell very good and proud.
It’s Friday, and it’s supposed to snow this afternoon! My kids are beyond excited; it’s been 2 years since they were able to play in it. We’ll see….
I haven’t been a perfumista all that long, so my collection doesn’t have a lot of older scents. I have a bottle of Euphoria, but it gets on my nerves after a few hours, because it’s a loud one. Soooooo….
SOTD: Upper Ten for Her, by Lubin. A perfect woody, warm scent for a snowy day!
Oh! I had forgotten I have a sample of that, and you are right, it is perfect for a snowy day. They are much more frequent than every 2 years where I am.
We got snow last night, not much, but just enough for a 2 hour delay. We ALL slept in 🙂
send your kids to my house…they can shovel my very long driveway and play in the snow 🙂
I envy people who get excited by snow. I hope they have fun!
I’m super excited about the snow in the forecast! I have my snowy Saturday all planned out – hot beverages, the book I want to read, the couch I’ll sit on as I read, the chili I’m going to make… (I’m in South Carolina, so I’m thrilled.)
How lovely, that sounds perfect, enjoy the snow!
Euphoria! Forgot all about that one. I still love it ????
Clinique Aromatics Elixir. A reviewer on Fragrantica who worked for Clinique back in the day said the way to wear it is to spray and then walk into the mist.
I’ll try it another time. It’s loud and proud today 🙂 .
AE is a wafter for sure!
It’s beautiful! I would totally not mind being stuck in the lift with someone wearing Aromatics Elixir.
If not pleased, most of us would at least be intrigued.
😀
I should have thought of AE! I LOVE that one!!!
There’s a woman at work who wears that and I can alwsys find her office in the maze of offices by following her scent trail. It’s a good one!
It sounds to me like perhaps that reviewer worked for Clinique back in the day when it was common practice for the SAs to prowl the floor armed with the latest perfume on offer and take aim at everyone passing by. Sometimes it was a waft, and sometimes it was a direct hit! I do like AE, and Calyx is another Clinique powerhouse that I enjoy.
Oh Calyx was GLORIOUS back in the day when Prescriptives owned it (before reform and before Clinique)….I think I drained about ten bottles of that one…always had one in rotation….
I also liked AE…never did the spritz the air and walk through…did the ritual mentioned in my comment above…and killed everyone whenever I wore it :)…my bad….
Prescriptives was a great line.
AE and Calyx were my high school favs! I recently ordered decants of both, and found them not quite the same, but still pretty good, though more synthetic-smelling than I remembered.
Calyx has been reformulated..I am sure the same for AE as well…..
The Bloomingdales main floor was like the I – 405 of cosmetic floors, with the SAs choking the air with perfume 😉 .
I can easily see their methods for wearing their perfumes also being their covert means of attacking passers-by in malls. “One is coming… spray… NOW” *quickly turns away while customer gets waft bombed*
SCENT TWINS!
I love Aromatics Elixir and I am guilty of wearing this in the summer. But on a freezing winter day this is perfect!
A summer day?!?!?! You get the bravery award. Just thinking about that scent in the summer…. may as well tightly pull a plastic bag over my head!
Hee! It is all in the application! The shower gel plus the tiniest spritz in the summer is radiant- there is no other way to describe. You spritz into the air. walk into it and that is it for the day. Wait 10 minutes and you get this amazing, rich rose/patchouli that makes you smell like a goddess from India or North Africa or Greece.
In the winter, just smells like a warm, luxurious hug.
Ede I am with you…I like to flip flop my winter/summer scents sometimes….
the Assam of India that I wore the entire summer last year was glorious yesterday in the frigid weather…the cold really amped up the sandalwood….
Made me smile! A dear friend from college that I hadn’t seen in years reminded me that I had insisted on cloud application of perfume so many moons ago. She said she still does it, albeit with more discrete fragrances. We had a good laugh. I have been obsessed with perfume forevahhh!
this is my choice for the day too!
Scent twins! Or scent quadruplets, I think. I wore this in high school back in the early 90s, but I was a very timid spritzer and probably didn’t offend too many noses. But today I sprayed with abandon!
Glorious!
Guerlain’s Insolence…the EDP on top of the EDT.
loud & proud!
You smell wonderful, that is a good one
Ah! That was another I thought of for today but totally forgot about it this morning. You smell great!
Oh, wow! I have a bottle of that somewhere, and also (old) body cream. Will have to search it out.
Oh I forgot about insolence edp , u smell gorgeous, will wear it tomorrow.
Perfect!
Twins! But only edp, don’t have any edt. Love that violet hairspray smell!
Vintage Lauren. It reminds me of those startling piercing shrieks that little girls emit, and back in the day when I was a flight attendant, it was one of the few fragrances that could knife through the pervasive smell of burnt coffee and cigarettes that took residence in our polyester Calvin Klein ensembles.
I chuckled at your description, especially of the polyester uniform.
You smell great. I recently discovered vintage Lauren and have been enjoying it, perhaps because I just missed all of the fragrances we are revisiting during their heyday.
My mother wore that. I think it’s rather sophisticated compared to some of its contemporaries. And smoking on planes! What a pastime…
And now I feel old cause I wore it to in the late 70s 🙂
that would be “too” and NOT “to”
What a scent memory!
OOO!!! Holly!!! You smell so good!!!!!!
haven’t smelled RL Lauren in ages!!!
Do tell us what it is like..I haven’t smelled that one in ages!
Lauren was pretty much the only perfume I owned back in the 80s. I still have my old bottle, unfortunately it seems to have spoiled 🙁 Who knew you shouldn’t leave perfume sitting on your dresser in the sun, year after year after year….
Lauren….what a treasure.
I am well familiar with those piercing shrieks and love them as a perfume metaphor. (Love them less when they are in my ear…)
Very nice! I wore Lauren back in high school. I recently came across it in Ulta. Sadly, it smelled nothing like the original. LT of The Guide was right, vintage is the way to go with this one.
Poison for me too, about half a spritz from a bottle of 1990s edp.
I used to truly hate this back in the day… you couldn’t walk through a girls’ college dorm without choking on it! You could practically see the scent contrails in the air, whew. It was always just Too Much.
These days, I think it’s nice. (And yet, I find that I hardly ever wear it, since there are a couple of other white florals I would rather be wearing. I should probably find a new home for it.)
I loved Poison with a passion when it first came our …until a pure perfume mini spilled all over inside my handbag and it was Poison for weeks on end…wonder how I would react to it now
came “out”
Mals, I remember wearing this in college in the late 80s/early 90s–it’s true, we all doused ourselves in it. My housemate and I could stink up the entire share-house we lived in with 5 other people. It was glorious!
I’m in Flowerbomb, which isn’t loud but does suffer from a bit of a reputation problem in that it was EVERYWHERE, on EVERYONE, for a while. I love its hints of tea and tobacco on me. I never really notice those notes on other people — on others I just get cloying sweetness. Guess I’m the lucky one, huh. 🙂
We are twins today????
I don’t really have any old bombs and didn’t have a scent that I wore like crazy. There was Shalimar in the house, but my mom never wore it.
Anyway, I was inspired by Annikky to wear CdR today.
You smell great!
She inspires EVERYBODY to wear CdR, and you smell fabulous!
You smell fantastic!
Dior Poison.3 generous sprays.Gorgeous tuberose, and I have forgotten how gorgeous the drydown becomes. You all smell radiant(radio-active??)Lol!X
Paradigmatic.
radioactive….Johanob, you are hilarious!
Radiantly radioactive is an apt description.
A respectful dose of Chopard Casmir is what I chose after much deliberation. Turns out I had quite a few minis in this category: Ysatis, Poison, Paris, Fracas (now lotion), Borghese Il Bacio though not sure about the loudness for that one.
Happy Friday everyone!! There’s a glorious cloud hovering over the globe today ????
Casmir, nice…always loved that one but a fellow graduate student wore it so often that I saw it as her signature scent and could never allow myself to wear it.
I love Casmir (one of my aunties wear this and I associate it with warm hugs and fried plantains) and I need to have a mini of this!
That’s a really nice association. Fried plantains. Mmmm.
I need to make some!
Nice choice for today!
Thanks!
Looove Casmir! It’s what I graduated to in the early nineties after my love affair with Obsession wound down.
You smell lovely!
Do u all think Casmir would be a safe blind buy?, it’s been on my list for ages, and good price on eBay..
I blind bought a mini and swapped it away, it was awful on me despite my love for heavy hitters, but ymmv of course.
I love it (obviously), but I know it can be one of those polarizing scents. Good reviews here on NST and over at Bois de Jasmin. Maybe try a decant first to be sure it’s for you.
It’s pretty sweet, for me at least. I’m not hugely into vanilla, but I do like this one in small doses. It’s pretty cozy. I’d go for a mini rather than a larger bottle, though. They’re pretty easy to come by.
Definitely not a safe blind buy! The notes sounded perfect to me but it smelled kind of awful when I finally found it.
That’s quite a graduation!
Hehe-yes! And my bff/roomie went from Poison to Angel! Go big or go home, I guess!????
Opium for me, but since I had to work today I went with the newer version which is milder (to say the least). I’ll add a spray or two from my precious late-80s bottle when I get home this evening.
You smell great!
I have a vintage mini and intentions of wearing a tiny dose later. Surprised that we’re the first to do so!
Original Fendi
*mic drip*
DROP!
Wow wow wow
you win
So jealous! My all time number one fragrance!
You win! Damn girl!
I don’t have anything that qualifies for this week’s project, so I’m belatedly participating in one from a few weeks ago: finishing off my sample of Cartier La Panthère.
Spending today enjoying the first sticking snow of the season: lying in bed, making a chocolate cake, and doing . . . not much! Although, I’m supposed to get a mattress foundation delivered later today – hope it makes it through! There’s not MUCH snow, but the southern plains states don’t generally know what to do with themselves when this stuff shows up and it’s very, very cold out.
You smell great and your day sounds very pleasant.
Thanks! Enjoy your Friday. 🙂
What do you think of Panthere?
I really like it. I’ve had this sample for a couple of years – you don’t need much, honestly, the perfume is so tenacious – and now that it’s finished I’m going to keep an eye out for a good GWP, I think. Some people hoped, I gather, for a more animalic scent, but I love the sexy gardenia and patchouli/”oak moss” mix as is. And most days I like the dried fruit opening, too: there’s something resinous about that smell to me, it makes me think of medieval luxury. And on days I don’t like it, it doesn’t last long.
Agreed. I bought a bottle of it and it is quite tenacious.
You’re making me want chocolate cake!!
It’s just the cake on the Hershey’s cocoa box: easy, perfect. Make it tonight!
I’d be happy to send you a decant. I have a huge bottle.
My email: laugsb at sbcglobal dot net
Thank you for this generous offer! But I like the look of the bottle enough that I want one of my own, honestly.
I’m wearing YSL Paris too! A lot of it! I finally finished a decant that I’ve had forever. I figured today is the day. 🙂
You smell fantastic!
Just sprayed some Paris on myself 🙂 It’s been YEARS since I wore it…forgot how lovely it is!
Hey twin!
I do not have many of “back in the days” perfumes, plus I’m not sure I know if people used to overspray…so not participating in Frapin 1697.
My plan for today was to dip a toothpick into my mini of Black Orchid and put a pencil-point size drop somewhere under my clothes, since to me that is the most over-radiating of all fragrances (though the day is not that far back). But I forgot and wore vintage Ivoire instead, which is one of those that every time I wear it I decide I must wear it every day forever.
Ivoire is lovely, and it matters not that it is in the Demure category.
Seconding this sentiment!
I’m wearing a good many sprays of Mitsouko edp, which I wouldn’t have worn back in the day because I would have considered it, like Youth Dew and Aromatics Elixir, an “old lady perfume”. Of course, now I’m an old lady.
Great choice!
I’m right there with you!
as am I 🙂
You smell wonderful!
I didn’t wear much perfume back in the day, and what I did wear wasn’t shouty (Lauren). But I’m joining in the fun today with a discreet – if that’s possible – spray of Gucci Rush. Mmmm peachy! Thanks foxbins!
You smell fantastic!!
Yay for Gucci Rush!
I second that!!!
And third! My husband loves Rush and I keep forgetting about it.
Excellent choice! Sure wish I had some vintage Rush.
Me too!
Someone on Perfume Posse said the new Neela Vermeire Rahele smelled like Gucci Rush…
Yeah, I saw that. I’ll let you know what I think when my sample of Rahele arrives next week.
please do because Rush is a tad less expensive….
Happy Friday, all!
1) It is FREEZING. But it is clear, so you can see all the twinkling frost on the grass and trees. Everything looks like it was touched with magic.
2) SOTD: Aromatics Elixir. This is a hell of fragrance, for a hell of a person. I have the shower gel and the perfume, so I left my house smelling pretty darn awesome. I usually wear this in the summer, where the fragrance would just radiate; but in the cold winter, trapped by a cashmere sweater, Aromatics just settles into the wool and the skin, inviting hugs, not repulsion.
3) Speaking of which, I need to invented scents called “Old Scarf” “Mom’s Church Purse” and “Winter Sweater” I have ideas! Think of all the scents mingling into one on your old scarf.
Twins!
HAHAHAHA “Mom’s Church Purse” … that one kills me. Those are all good perfume scent names.
You DO smell pretty darn awesome 🙂
Mom’s Church Purse would involve a stale breath mint note, right?
My Mom’s Church Purse would have a saltine note – she always brought snacks.
I wonder if there’s an enjoyable way to do wool, incense, coffee and donuts together.
I smell like that a lot during the winter. I think it can be done!
I was thinking peppermints, honey-lemon cough drops, tissues (back when they were lightly scented), Revlon lipstick, and pennies.
*nods* along with violet candies and small powder compact!
Yes! How did you know???? 🙂
Yes to #3! Please add Car Shoulder Seatbelt Strap to your line.
OOh, now there is now an idea!
Lol those are great perfume ideas! I also want one along the lines of inside the perfume cabinet, because that smell is so good.
Hmmm, yes! Bathroom Cabinet!
I’m wearing some dabs of Jil Sander #4 which I had in a mini tray that I seldom consult. I also realized I have minis of Mitsouko and Elizabeth Taylor Black Pearl on there so I’ve dabbed ’em all, and woo do I stink! Ha ha! I stink nice!
That’s quite a melange but sounds like they work together, actually. I enjoyed Jil Sander 4 yesterday. It’s good buried under layers of clothing on a freezing day!
“I stink nice!” Love it! (Also, I think it applies to most of us today!????)
Hi All, Okay I am ‘going for it’ by wearing Shalimar vintage- for the 1st time ever!!’ Off to lunch & a movie- Rogue One,
Wish’em all luck! Maybe I will love this perfume!
It’a toooo pretty to be assaulting so I thi k I’ll just Glow with the flow instead!
Flow!! Dang all thumbs
You smell fab. I bet you’ll fall for the vintage stuff.
I’m still in minimalism mode with Tauer Amber Flush Body Oil. You all are smelling fabulous! Today is the aromatic equivalent of Dynasty-esque linebacker shoulder pads and big puffy hair. I’d like to get everyone in the same room and take a deep breath. I might die, but it’s not a bad way to go????
???? I don’t know Deva, I find Amber Flush pretty potent!
It can be, but I have plans for later after I’m done dealing with the “public.”
I’ll be topping off Amber Flush with a HUGE dose of Kenzo Jungle l’Elephant. I’ll be trumpeting loud and proud for real! Surprised no one has mentioned it, but then, I have no clue when it made its debut.
I will try that combo when I get home!!!
Yowza! That’s gonna smell goooood????
“I might die but it’s not a bad way to go”….priceless 🙂
We’ll be sure to spritz your dead body before they carry you out????
Twins in Andy’s Amber Flush, layered discretely with Dzongkha. Too much under the weather for the 80’s. If I weren’t and if I still owned the perfumes I wore back then it may have been Austenfan’s Peach (I kept a bottle in my car), Ysatis, Beautiful or my favourite LouLou.
OOO!!! Lou Lou would have been great for today!
Hope you feel better soon, twin!
????????????
I’m wearing Samsara today from the clear coffin bottle. I didn’t wear this back in the day but I should have! I can smell everyone from here today and it’s wonderful!
Samsara is beautiful.
you smell gorgeous! I love love samsara
Another I didn’t think of for today! You smell great!
Loud and proud in Boucheron this morning. Wondering if this will actually scent the pool when I go for a swim later this morning?
I didn’t actually have this one back in the day…definitely used to overspray Paris back in the early 90’s but can’t bear that one anymore.
AH! That is a good one!
I haven’t smelled Boucheron is ages…
I use to wear and over apply Gio by Giorgio Armani back in the day. Too bad they got rid of that one. Oh well
I remember Gio…had a bottle of it…that was a good one to douse oneself with…did not know that it was discontinued 🙁
I also wore Gio. I see it on eBay sometimes, but it’s very expensive. You and I used to wear a lot of the same wonderful scents!
wow..I just took a peak! Its is not cheap on the eBay
and at one point it was selling for a song at online discounters 🙁
I loved Gio! Back when I wore it, my new boyfriend bought me J’Adore and I was smitten by what it implied. But his next gift was Armani’s Mania…
Hahaha! That’s awesome.
!!!!!
We’re twins today. ????
I was light w not application though. Just two timid spritz.
It’s beautiful.
I bought a mini of Boucheron at an estate sale over the summer and forgot about it, you’ve reminded me to get it out and wear it. It’s in the same classy class as Theo Fennell Scent in my mind.
You smell great!
Giorgio Berverly Hills from way back then, two healthy sprays. Man, am I loud!
Oh wow! That does take me back.
Me too. It was a gift from a boy I loved, who turned out to be truly stupid.
Hat tip to ya.
It’ s golden and thick because its old, and now is summer here. I really take our projects seriously!!
Ya!! Was wondering if someone would wear this one!!! Love it!!!!
Yes, I’m enjoying it!
Beautiful!
Thank you.
Giorgio Beverly Hills! I can’t remember the last time I smelled that one, I can smell it in my mind though!
I am loving everyone’s posts today…I feel a John Hughes movie in my very near future????
Ha! I might join you in the John Hughes fest. I see Molly Ringwald in Paris.
There is a festival going on here, good idea, I’ll be taking the kids tomorow!
Thete was a lot if Giorgio happening in my highschool. Glad to see it here. I’m still waiting for Paloma Picasso to make an apppearance.
Oh gosh yes!!! Paloma Picasso!!!!
Does anyone else remember Sinan? that was another great one from the 80s…a bit under the radar, though..”.a witchy , chypre” to quote the Black Narcissus….
Huh. I never heard of that one. I’ll have to look it up. Sounds like Magie Noire
http://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Jean-Marc-Sinan/Sinan-14107.html
Definitely an 80s powerhouse! Don’t know why it flew under the radar…it was gorgeous!
I broke my Paloma Picasso. My room smelled of it for an year, the scent will be forever printed in my brain.
Yikes. Kind of like Coco for me. A mini opened in my backpack and impregnated my tuna sandwich. I still have a hard time with vintage Coco for that reason.
Awesome. You smell like everything I aspired to be in middle school.
Lol!
Bravo! My mom and I wore gallons of that when it was launched.
You both smelled great.
I have perfume amnesia: I can’t remember what Giorgio smells like! What a weird feeling.
Not far off from Amarige, from my memory.
For some reason it always reminded me of pineapples!!!
SotD: four generous sprays of Chanel Coco EDP. Coco is older than I am, but my mother wore it on special occasions in the late 80’s and 90’s.
Strong and beautiful!
HaHA!!! So funny!
If I was near Mom today I’d grab her Jean Nate or Estee Lauder!! Timewarp
Love, love, love Coco. Forget special occasions, I wore it to work daily in the 80’s! ???? Still have some vintage bottles that I’m hoarding.
I’ve loved it from day one, literally, and it’s the closest I ever got to a signature scent. I’ve got a hoard too 🙂
Coco is so good!
Great choice!
My back-in-the-day choice is Shalimar, which I’m wearing for delicately than I used to in high school. I need my coworkers to not hate me.
You can come sit near me, I will not hate you one bit!
Twin! I am still recovering from the time I wore this to high school and blasted out my science class. It was commented on loudly by those nearby. I never wore it again.
Forget the haters! ????
Ditto!
Twins!!
Just put on some Rien, which is in its first-hour, World Domination phase. I shall see how much it will cling to my sweater, overcoat and anything else my arms touch today.
In other L&P news, I have a lipstick in the colour of the YSL bag above. Will put some on when I’m ready to go out, either full strength or applied&blotted, which is my usual lipstick MO these days.
I once drained an entire decant of Rien in a few hours because I just could not smell it on myself…I thought well yeah, the name “Rien” maybe that is the point…until I mentioned it to the person who gifted it to me and she gasped as she felt the same “World Domination”
do tell more about your lipstick. I am a lipstick junky
It’s an old Boots No 17 lipstick called Pink Power, which I have kept mainly for nostalgia. Full strength turned out to be Too Much, but I did put in on blotted and it was rather pretty.
Rien is the Bomb!
Possibly literally…
I’m afraid I don’t think I was around for the 80s bombshell overapplication, but it sounds light it was a bit fun–at least it might be to start. 😉 I’m enjoying reading everyone’s anecdotes! I didn’t know what the challenge was today–but since it doesn’t really apply to me I’m happily in absentia. (also I doubt my co-workers would have been pleased with me.) Baccarat Rouge 540. I’m on a mission to use all my decants as even with parafilm they’re quickly slipping away.
*sounds LIKE
Certainly not light ???? You smell good today anyway. BR has plenty of presence, itself.
You smell great, I love BR540.
I’m on the same mission – I can see the levels sinking!
You smell great! I was around for the 80s over-application, just not old enough to engage in it myself. ????
Taking it down quite a bit with unoriginal Fendi. Back in the day I would wear Fendi shower gel, lotion and to many sprays of perfume. I loved it so. I went through a few bottles. A few years ago I purchased the current version. Fendi lite. Or water de Fendi. The original will always be my desert island perfume.
Water de Fendi, ha!
Happy Friday everyone! I don’t think I have anything that can qualify…maybe Joy Parfum? I just have a little sample! I’m going to keep an eye on this post for inspiration for my SOTN 🙂
Today I’m wearing Neela Vermeire’s Ashoka – I put on a bright lime green sweater dress from Cos this morning and it needed something creamy and figgy and green! This one is so nice – I love NV’s perfumes and can’t wait to smell Rahele.
So happy today’s Friday! First week with a new director and there have been some changes, but keeping positive and an eye on new opportunities and adventures. Perfume has been helping through it! Not much can get me down when I smell yummy 🙂
I am also looking forward to Rahele!
I’m loud and proud in Fracas today (and surprised I’m the only one, so far). I love it on sparkly, frosty days like today, paired with cuddly cashmere and a WHY YES I DO LIKE PERFUME attitude. 🙂
Not any more!
Hey twins, we smell delightful don’t we?!
You smell fantastic!
…I don’t know if you saw it the other day, but I ‘sang’ some of the Log jingle back to you. You made my day! (Do you remember My Little Brother Doll? Tha was one of my other faves.)
No, but headed to YouTube now to check it out… 😀
Given my experiences with SSS frags, I thought my prudently applied single sprays of Equestrian would bring things down a notch. Surprise, surprise, I can barely smell it only an hour or so later.
I am inspired by other posts to go wild with some AE a little later.
Twins, but I went with several sprays and it’s still with me. Unlike some of the other SSS scents, this one is more subtle, so I wore it for my preschoolers. I think I’ll try a spray of Poison later!
SotD = Eau des Merveilles, day 5. I added a few extra spritzes. It’s not loud, but I love it anyway.
Later today I’ll go a bit bolder with a few dabs of Ysatis from a decades-old sample vial.
Whew, we made it to Friday! Have a great one.
Hey tiffanie, I just finished Season 3 Episode 1. I will ration my doses and distract myself with something else. I’m happy to note that I have not bought any perfumes yet this year due to the newly found obsession.
But it is only January 6th… 😉
But that is six. whole. days.
Yes! I think the longest I managed without buying any perfume in a new year was January 10th!
Baby steps…
Fabulous way to distract yourself from perfume purchases! Mozart season 3 is diva-tastic. So much crazy genius creativity. I hope my mention of Venice the other day wasn’t a spoiler. 😉
No, not a spoiler at all. I want to spot the places I visited 3 years ago!
Another day off for me and I am already annoyed. One of my Sephora gift cards won’t work on the website but by calling the 800 number it has $15 on it, so that means I am going to have to talk to an actual person to place an order. Since TPC has some Chanel offerings, I want to try out the new no 5 flanker and I can get a small decant for basically free due to loyalty points but when I try to use them, it doesn’t show that the $8.00 credit. It shows the full price with shipping. I’ve never come across a website that makes that confusing. I guess I will hold off. Wearing vintage Chanel no 5 today.
Hey Dawn, if you are looking for a sample of No.5 L’Eau, email me 🙂
The last few times I’ve been in Sephora there has been someone at the counter with a gift card that won’t work either in store or online and a frustrated SA trying to get the company who manages the cards to fix the issue. I think it’s a pretty common problem.
So we are about to have our first snow storm so I thought a little KL would be appropriate❄️
I almost went with KL, but only have 2 sprays left!
Hmm, I wish I’d bought vintage KL when it was more plentiful!
Wish I hadn’t drained my KL years ago when I had it in plentiful 🙂
Mmmmm, love KL, a little dab’ll do ya!
From 1983, I’m wearing Ungaro Diva. Jacques Polge is responsible for it, and it’s one of those big animalic florals of the ’80s. It smells a bit dated but I love it anyway.
Dated??!!! Bite your tongue! Just kidding. I wore vintage Diva on NYE. It’s one of my all time favs.
Not participating in the theme as I received my sample of Zoologist’s Civet EDP yesterday, and I cannot stop sniffing.
Subtle citrus notes woven through a very vintage smelly chypre.
Highly recommend.
*Not affiliated with Zoologist, but Victor Wong is a friend and I hope this scent is his big commercial breakthrough*
I couldn’t hold back my curiosity any longer and ordered the sample set of the whole line this morning. Can’t wait to try them!
Panda and now Civet are my favourites. The opening earth notes of Bat are a work of art. Civet is office friendly, Rhino may not be 🙂
Oh, I didn’t know there was a complete sample set now! That might be in my near future.
Me too, ordered mine last week!
Ooooh, want to try this!
I think you will love Civet. I get a very 1960’s Arpege vibe
Arpege is beautiful. I have an old bottle that I found in an antiques shop but the top notes are off.
Heading to a job interview, so have two tiny dabs of Prada Infusion d’Iris only. Quite discreet.
I took an uber just to make sure I get there half an hour early, but the driver got on the highway when i wasn’t paying attention and now we are sitting in traffic. Argh! My fault for not telling him to go the back way. But, still, ugh.
Good luck on your interview!
Hope it goes well!
Hope you made it on time and best if luck!
Good luck! You smell lovely (if discrete).
Perfect scent for an interview, I hope your day went well. 🙂
Good luck on the interview! (Curious to know where you live, since you use the term “back way”. I find it interesting how we use different terms for non-highway…)
I’ve pulled out Prada for interviews as well. ????
Great luck! I hope you land this one if you want it.
Good luck!
Good luck with you’re interview!
Best of luck! You smell discreetly classy. 🙂
Good luck!
Good luck–hope it goes/went well!
Hope your job interview went well!
Ohmigosh, Thank you all so much!!!
It seemed to go fine – they were nice and I smelled good so we shall see 😉
Xoxo for the support 😀
My first place award for the TIDAN crown goes to…….
FLOWERBOMB !!!
I’ve loved this scent from first sniff over ten years ago. I’m wearing it LOUD and LOVING it layered over the matching body oil. I need to wear this more often. Thanks Bear for the fun community project!
Hi twin! Matching body oil – ooooh, yum. I’ll have to look around for that!
SOTD = Le Labo Vanille 44
F stands for Friday and Failure to participate in the community project. I added a 6th spritz so perhaps I bet partial credit for the LOUD part?
It was snowing this morning but I made it into the city anyway and took the subway instead of walking. My darn Metrocard stopped working (please swipe again which I did over and over again to no avail.). The MTA person in the booth was not helpful – she couldn’t swap out my card because it did not swipe correctly (duh?) but yet she was able to tell me the balance. Anyway, I will need to get the refund by mail! She took pity on me though and gave me a complimentary ride.
It sounds like not the best of the days, but it’s Friday AND you smell great! 🙂
Thanks! And this afternoon, I had an issue calling a toll-free number which used to work dialing out from my work phone and this afternoon I had to resort to using my cell phone! Tech support even asked me the equivalent of is your phone plugged in! End result? I had to submit a work request to unrestrict the number from my account. Really? It’s a number used by specialist teams and it seemed to have been randomly restricted with no warning whatsoever.
At least you smell great!
Thanks!
6 sprays of anything gets partial credit!
Yay! Not a total fail then!
Magie Noire.
Nice…vintage?
One of us is vintage…and it’s not the perfume.
LOL! that makes two of us 🙂
Vintage people are even more valuable.
Amen to that 🙂
Love it!
🙂
Five sprays of Fracas. It would not have occurred to me to wear it if Robin hadn’t done so earlier this week – I have no bad connotations with it, to me it’s just beautiful. My bottle is almost empty, alas.
You smell absolutely stunning! I love Fracas. It looks like you might need a new bottle.
Yes. But I’m thinking… Maybe a small bottle of extrait?
I was thinking that too. The extrait is still made, but only sold in 50 ml. It’s worth it though, it’s even more lush and more mysterious than the EDP.
Yes, I’ve just seen they only do 50ml. That’s disappointing, but I’ll think about it.
You win — I only did three sprays! We smell great!
🙂 And we definitely do!
You smell fab!
You must love it — 5 sprays!
I have never worn Fracas. Frankly, it scares the beejesus out of me.
80s wasn’t a requirement, was it? I’m wearing Angel Taste of Fragrance. Since I used it from a bottle, there is absolutely no way to wear it quietly: a tiny spritz is nuclear! Let’s see how my co-workers survive…
My choice was from the early 90s but I was a teen in the 80s so most of my loud perfume associations are from that decade. Except Angel. I’d say that one is the 80s scent of the 90s.
It’s a great definition! 🙂
I don’t think it was… And even if it had been, it’s still a great choice.
Thanks!
Anything loud and proud so Angel definitely fits the bill 🙂
It was definitely loud, and I was proud 🙂
Did they survive?
Half of the office has left earlier but I don’t think it was because of me… no, I don’t think so… 😉
I’m in the opposite type of scent today – Hiris! It’s my wedding anniversary and Hiris is my husband’s favorite, so my choice this morning was clear.
Happy almost weekend!
Happy Anniversary and such a thoughtful choice!
Happy anniversary!
Happy Anniversary! Hiris is beautiful.
Happy Anniversary! Enjoy!
Happy anniversary!
Happy Anniversary!
Happy Anniversary! you smell fab
Happy Anniversary, hope u both have a lovely day!
Lovely!
Happy anniversary! My wedding scent was iris too, so lovely.
Happy anniversary, and your husband has great taste!
Happy Anniversary!
Perfect!
Happy Anniversary! Enjoy your weekend.
Hiris is marvelous. Hope your day has been wonderful.
Boy could I use some of your attitude!
Happy anniversary!
Happy Anniversary weekend!
Happy anniversary!
Happy anniversary!
Happy Anniversary!
Congratulations!
I’m wearing Amarige today, but just a little bit so as not to gas myself out.
I still can believe I ever finished a bottle of that.
As did I!
Headache in a bottle! My roommate used to douse herself in it, I was glad to move out.
I wouldn’t be opposed to a bottle of this.
I was wondering if anyone would wear Amarige today! I only have a mini of it left now, but it’s a bit off.
One of the few fragrances that will ‘gas’ me out with just the slightest whiff!
D & G Light Blue for me today. I can’t apply too liberally because it will aggravate this cough I currently have. The cough is lingering around after a sinus/ear infection I had during the Christmas holidays.
you smell fab! and feel better
Hope your cough is gone soon.
Happy Friday guys!!!????
It’s been forever since I logged in but I’ve been lurking in the background for years. I wasn’t wearing my collection much as I was having babies and turns out they have extremely sensitive skin. I actually had to redo registration.
Im experimenting w more discreet application to different pulse points I don’t typically use to avoid them coming in direct contact w my ‘fumes. So far so good, so today I’m participating in the group challenge! ????
I chose two timid sprays of Boucheron by Boucheron. I’m in an aura of flowers on our first snow day. ????
You smell great!
So glad you decided to de-lurk! And you smell wonderful.
You could try to wear perfumes on your knee-pits (I remember one fellow perfumista mentioned that this was how she wore Fracas).
Has anyone taken advantage of TPC 40% off sale? I am sitting on my hands but I don’t think this time I will survive 🙁
Do share the code and expiration date!
Code: Winterclearance
From: Friday 1/6 to Sunday 1/8.
i am going over for a peak…
DON’T DO IT!!!-LOL!
Reading everyone’s comments and thinking about all these perfumes from my 20s has been a fun distraction this cold afternoon, thanks Bear, Robin and everyone 🙂
I second that thank you to Robin and Bear…I have really enjoyed taking a walk down memory lane…and judging by the number of comment this has been a great community project!!!
I am blown away by the number of comments today!
We’re LOUD and PROUD to be part of this community!
Yes,yes we are!Poison made it through my shower, even!
The outpouring of comments today might have something to do with memories of the days when perfume was so strong we could smell it and taste it, too. 😛
Lol that’s so true! Even that Cabot musk oil that everyone in my junior high wore had that certain taste in the air.
Not sure if I am considered loud in Kenzo Jungle L’Elephant, but I sure am happy to be wearing it.
My original plan, which was to wear a teeny bit of a sample of vintage Poison esprit de parfum, got derailed. After I kicked the Christmas crud to the curb (only 4 days for that!), I got a REALLY nasty GI bug from the NYE parry I went to. Even Mr. Jalapeno, who usually doesn’t get sick, had a couple of rotten days. I ended up not wearing any perfume for most of this week. I did not even want to THINK about perfume.
I am very thankful to the NSTers who had previously mentioned not to wear fragrance when experiencing GI issues… I am certain that you all saved me from a very unpleasant association.
So, illness 2 is now gone, and I am wearing the Elephant to celebrate. The Poison was a little more than I could handle today. 🙁 Maybe next time.
Good to hear you are feeling better!
Ugh, sorry you got sick *again*!
Glad you’re feeling better. I consider Jungle ‘definitely’ loud!
Thanks everyone! I just hope that this is not a sign of how this winter is going to be!!
Also, edit up top: parry = party.
You’ve kicked them to the curb and it’s all uphill from here on!
Very good morning, NST. Thank you all so much for your good wishes yesterday–we had a happy day despite the slightly inauspicious start. We didn’t exchange presents–back when we were first married and didn’t have a single penny to spare for anything other than absolute essentials, we began a tradition of saving up for something we both wanted for the house. I can still remember the anxious pleasure of choosing and using our first good wine glasses….goodness, we were so young! And so hard up! I ran out of perfume once and longed for a bottle of something or other — maybe Fidji–and the dear one walked to work for weeks to save up the bus fare so he could buy it for my birthday!
But enough. Back to the present. Today I’m going simple–my perfume is Narcisse Bleu. Its cool crisp notes are perfect for a jeans-and-shirt day. I’m going to bake bread and biscuits all morning and nap this afternoon and generally do very little.
Aww, what a sweet story about your DH walking to work to buy you perfume! Your day sounds perfect, enjoy!
What a lovely story! You smell great in your Narcisse Bleu, and it sounds like your house is about to smell great, too.
That story made my day! What a treasure he is.
Oh my goodness, what a lovely story!
General crankiness and all. 🙂
What a wonderful story! Happy (Belated) Anniversary!
Now that’s a true love story.
Happy Belated Anniversary!
Glad to hear that your anniversary day turned out well in the end. 🙂
He’s a keeper. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing this beautiful love story with us. Many years of health and prosperity to both of you.
Happy Anniversary(again?!)Lol.What a beautiful memory.I hope I find an everlasting epic lovestory like that one day.x
Oh what a lovely story 🙂
I’ve been racking my brains to recall what I wore back in the 80s and coming up blank. I can remember the little cheap bottles I bought as a teenager in the 70s, and the things I wore when I was a bit older in the 90s, but nothing in between – maybe I wore the 70s things a bit longer than I recall and started the 90s things a bit sooner!
Anyway, the big 80s perfumes largely passed me by. I might spend some time in a department store this afternoon to see what I can try – lots of inspiration from all your comments 🙂
I am loud and proud in Obsession today! I’m congested, so what do I care?! Bwahaha! I’m my own, walking air freshener. ????No one will be harmed, though; there are only a few people who will potentially smell me.
Have a great Friday giving the world a good fumigation, fellow NSTers!
Sorry to hear that you are congested. Hope it’s not the current batch of crud making its rounds.
No, it’s just my allergies, but thanks! Fingers crossed, I’ll avoid the crud.
Eeeek about the congestion! I am still going to try to find my mini of Obsession and when I do, watch out world! I’m quite sure the mini was from when Obsession first came out in the mid-80s so 30 years old and counting.
That should smell extra awesome by now. I *will* watch out–I might be able to smell it from here! ????
I never once wore perfume during the 70s, 80s, or 90s! Nor, more surprisingly, did many people I knew. Read ‘I went to a very take-oneself-way-too-seriously women’s college and then a graduate school where you were lucky if people bathed.’ When I smelled anything other than patchouli in the wild it all knocked me over, indiscriminately. So how did I end up here?
Wearing numerous spritzed or philosykos now and will shower and put on Misia or Iris Cendre for conferencing.
Being rational and comprehensible is highly overrated.
Funny – back in the day it was patchouli oil that would knock me over…
Oh it did me too! It’s just the only thing I somewhat regularly encountered, often on the unshowered!
I wish I was around during the 60’s/70’s!Sounds like it was an interesting time for olfaction!
Going loud, but not with a scent from back in the day or with a bad rep. Angel Muse is a powerhouse of a scent but if handled correctly it can be quite enjoyable to wear. At least I’m enjoying it!
TGIF!
You smell great. I liked my sample enough to buy a 30 ml bottle yesterday from a third party at discount. What sold me was catching a whiff sometime well after I sprayed it and thinking something smelled good. And then realizing it was me!
Always nice when that happens!
Yeah, I’ve only got a roll on sample, maybe 2mls, but it will last me a very long time.
You smell niiiiiiiiiccccccceeeeeeee!
I need to wear Muse!
You smell wonderful! Muse is the only Angel I want a bottle of, my mini of the original will last the rest of my life.
had to pop in a second time and say that I am squealing like a chocolate marzipan pig right now as I just got a package of decants and samples from a very generous close friend and as my person said to me “you hit pay dirt, honey!”…..may not be participating in the community project for the next month in order to give these beauties some skin time 🙂
Oh how fun for you! Enjoy!
New toys! Looking forward to reading about your discoveries!
C’mon! You can do both! I believe in you! 🙂
Twenty years ago, when I used to work in cosmetics and fragrances, Angel was new and provocative. One of my sexy co-workers wore it exclusively and said it was a fragrance “that went straight to the groin”. Whenever someone flounced by our counter, we could almost “see” the sillage of the Angel that they were wearing!
Lately, I opened a sample of the body lotion and put the paper thing that held it on my bedside table. The smell went on for days till I was forced to throw out the remainder. It had become a gel anyway. Recognized as an iconic scent now, I don’t want to have to smell it again.
E. L.’s Azuree only requires one spritz and it carries on all day.
Azuree is gorgeous!!! I am surprised that you are the first to wear an Estee Lauder today…I could think of many that would fit the bill for today’s community project.
I feel like that about Azuree, the leather in there is just too much!I promptly swapped mine for Bronze Goddess with Merlin.
I had an aunt who wore Azuree in the 70s and smoked Lark cigarettes. It was hard to tell where one left off and the other began.
It’s summer here and too hot for stonking orientals etc, so I went with Calyx, the Clinique version from a mini I got in a gift pack. I also have a half-bottle of Prescriptives vintage – a bit on the turn now, but it smells more tart that the newer stuff. I didn’t wear Calyx back in the day and I don’t greatly love it, but it sure stands up in heat.
Well, I consider that nearly 25 years ago fits rhe parameter of ‘back in the day,’ so my choice for today’s community project is the original Thierry Mugler Angel from 1992 (sorry, Celestia!). Certainly, a love-it or hate-it scent, I’m actually fairly neutral about it but it’s the body creme version that i love and am wearing today. A light all-over application leaves a much softer (but still long-lasting) and haunting fragrance, especially nice wafting from beneath numerous layers of clothing on a bitterly cold winter day like today.
Laila: I don’t think Angel is a bad scent, it’s just too overwhelmingly strong and not my favourite fragrance category. (I’m at the other end of the spectrum: marine/aquatic.) Had a boyfriend long ago who loved Angel and bought me the stand for the bottle, the deodorant (which is about all I can stand to wear and only in the height of winter), and a gorgeous product: silvery body gel. After applying 2 or 3 Angel products back at the turn of the last century, people passing by in the hallway outside my apt. could probably smell it. Still, it definitely belongs in the pantheon of ground-breaking fragrances.
The only form of Angel I wear is the body creme, and that ONLY in the height (or is it, depths?) of winter – it has to be very cold and I have to be wearing many layers. Otherwise, it’s overpowering. I tried Angel Muse at Ulta on a hot summer day while I was out running errands and I almost got ill; despite so many positive reviews of it I have no desire to try it again, so I understand where you’re coming from!
As much as I love Angel, even when I was still wearing it, the body cream was too much for me 🙂 But you smell good (and loud and proud).
I’ll be curious to check if I can still smell tomorrow morning Angel TOF that I was wearing today (the original Angel usually stayed with me for more than 24 hours).
Late to the party but I am unable to wear perfume to work due to a zero tolerance for it. So it’s vintage Poison EDT for me now. Just 2 sprays, I think I need a top-up. I loved it back in the day, powered through 2 or 3 bottles of the original stuff. I wore it alot when the hubs and I first got together so it holds a special place in my heart. I still love it!
You smell awesome!
I’m soooooo late today, but I did participate by wearing Kenzo’s spicefest, Jungle Elephant. Loud and proud indeed; you can hear (smell?) that Elephant trumpeting from far away.
Good description of Jungle!!
