Bleu de Chanel winning the Men’s is pretty much incontrovertible proof that this awards ceremony is run by people with no noses.

What are the judging criteria? Ad campaign budget? Ugliness of bottle?

And the winner for the least likely fragrance to ever draw anyone’s attention is… Bleu de Chanel!

Film buffs would say the same about the Oscars, right? It works about the same way.

        Touché.

I almost never watch movies and have never seen the Oscars, so I wouln’t know really, but I definitely catch your drift!

You know, they tend to reward the middle-of-the-road movies that have mass appeal. Some of those movies end up being classics, many others end up (justly) forgotten. But if you’re totally into indie and/or art films, the Oscar picks seem inexplicable. I do think this is about the same! As a perfumista, it’s hard to see how Bleu de Chanel could even possibly be the best men’s fragrance of 2010 (and I am even more positive that Gucci Guilty was not the best women’s!) but there you are.

So what would your personal Robin Fifi finalists look like?

For mainstream, Balenciaga Paris & Marc Jacobs Bang…same picks I made for best of 2010. What would you pick?

Bang is a pretty good call!

I’m not up on a lot of what got released, but there are a few new ones I like for men.

I think John Varvatos Artisan is a 2010. I love that one. L’Artisan Parfumeur recent releases have been good – I like Al Oudh a lot, as well as Havana Vanille. Pretty sure they’re 2010.

I dunno. I’m not a great judge of “best” per se, I just thought Bleu seems like everything else on the men’s counter at the store, so it surely can’t be the top.

which is why it could be fun to start the perfume equivalent of the “razzies” , maybe a poll idea?

read his blog for more information, especially that he wore yeans!!! I “love” the man (and his fragrances). He stays down to earth and I like that.

The worst thing with us, humans, is the fact that we are so incurably predictable. And, most of the times, with a very limited sense of taste. Bleu de Chanel?? Gucci Guilty?? Please guys, don’t you think you should repeat the ceremony once more and reconsider the winners? Get a bloody grip!

Best price for Chanel new man`s scent? for me it is very obvious. For heavens! at least Chanel makes classical, very own fragrances for us, man`s! ;) And the quality is out of discussion. :*

I like the Oscars analogy and wonder if it might not be pushed further. The “Academy,” or whatever we’re supposed to call them, seems to be so aware of the complaint of playing it safe that they sometimes make a gesture (often spastic) towards rewarding “edginess.” Is it possible that the Fifi folks do this too? Could KP seem like a semi-risky choice to them when compared with other, more obviously insipid celebrities?

Good point. Do you know which other celebrity perfumes where shortlisted?

I don’t. But am I correctly recalling that KP is the most recent female pop singer to proclaim that she’d “kissed a girl and [gasp!] LIKED it”? Maybe Jennifer Aniston should give this a try, after which, she would, of course (if she hasn’t already, I’m out of touch) have to marry her boyfriend.

Correct. But JA has actually kissed 3 girls that I know of. Winona Ryder and Phoebe in Friends and Courtney Cox in Dirt. She still lacks edginess!

            JA is just un-edgeable!

Love to see Basenotes getting their due as a player and am curious about what that “with” entails, exactly. Makes total sense though, as a way of reaching out to folks like us, to go through an established forum. Which, come to think of it, may be why Andy’s category is the only one that makes any sense to me!

You are thinking of the US Fifis…this is the UK awards, so Aftelier was not even nominated.
